Windows 10: what to do by 0xc000021a on 2nd reboot after firmware upgrade?

Question: Windows 10: what to do by 0xc000021a on 2nd reboot after firmware upgrade?

Hi, today - after installing a firmware upgrade for windows10 on my surface 2 and a first successful reboot - I checked again for updates and found a new one that failed to install (didn't write down the error code, there was no specific explanation).
After a second shutdown I've got a 0xc00021a on reboot.
I don't have a backup or a restore point. I then followed the suggested steps to troubleshoot this error. I tried the "verify.exe" utility for drivers, which did not help.
I tried the Windows Settings "Troubleshoot" options: "Reboot" and "Safe mode with network", then I tried to "Disable driver signature enforcement" with no luck (same error).
Then I tried to reset the system from a Windows 10 USB installation, with the option "keep my files", but, surprisingly, I got the same error again and the process rolled back.
I really appreciate any help to solve this problem!

Preferred Solution: Windows 10: what to do by 0xc000021a on 2nd reboot after firmware upgrade?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm looking for a Windows API call (or some other "programatic method) to reboot PC into the firmware (BIOS/UEFI) setup/configuration screen.
I'm writing an installer application (in c++), and as part of that application, I would like to reboot the PC firmware (BIOS/UEFI) setup/configuration screen.
Anyone know anything that might work, or any place I could look for this information???
NOTE: Windows 10 has a UI that does this, and I have seen it done from other installers, so I know it's possible.

I just bought the dir-655 router, replacing my old dd-wrt router, based on very positive customer reviews on the internet. i have found the router performance degradation (longer internet latency) is pretty bad over several hours of light use and it quickly reached the state of unusable until I reboot the router. The problem does not exist on my older router. see the chart below.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v732/twinkiestar/?action=view&current=dir655.png

I have turned off all advanced feature of the dir655 router, (QoS engine off, Wish etc) and didn't see improvement.

is this normal or I should need to replace another one?

Answer:Dlink dir-655 needs reboot (w/ latest firmware 1.21)

Well I just tested mine with speed test...
Before restart (been on for 6 days)

After restart.

Run a speed test to see how bad it is... Or does it even show up on a speed test? At this point I think you may have a bad router.

Used to be able to access internet very within seconds of reaching the desktop. Now it seems like it takes 30-60 seconds for whatever reason. You may be able to load a page or two then it will lag and act like it is searching for internet, then it flashes to no internet and then says limited internet access and then it finally connects. All I did was upgrade my 840 SSD firmware from the 06 version to 09 version. Like an idiot I did not have system restore setup and ALSO did not do a backup before updating the firmware. I have been looking around for the old firmware version to see if that is indeed the issue but no look. Any advice on how to speed it back up or at least find that older version firmware?

Answer:Updated SSD firmware - PC lags to connect to internet after reboot

A system restore or backup wouldn`t help you in this case anyway, what you did has nothing to do with windows.

Even though it`s having an affect on it somehow

I would hope you have at least 1 disk image saved somewhere ?

Hello, I want to replace my SATA HardDrive for a New SSD Disc. The problem is that the Bios does not recognize the SSD when I connect it, My Bios level is [ICKT23AUS] from 2013... Curiosly the Recover CD's Did the work on recovering the system to the new SSD, but won't boot, since Bios doesn't recognize it as a Sata Drive even changing from IDE to AHCI...  I don't find a new Firmware for this Idea Centre B550 Desktop... Any Idea?

Answer:Idea Centre B550 SSD Upgrade / Firmware Upgrade

It's possible the CMOS isn't being updated with the hardware change.  With the SSD drive installed try clearing the CMOS.  The clearing process will erase the stored hardware configuration in the CMOS and then do a fresh inventory on the next reboot.

To clear the CMOS just unplug the power cord and press the power button for 60 seconds or longer.

I am running win 8.1 64 bit. I have been trying to upgrade to win10 x64. I have tried both RS3 and RS4 builds.
I have tried several times. I am able to get the upgrade to complete. However, each time after I do a first reboot after windows boots into windows10 and finishes the installation I get a BSOD, system service exception(nothing more specific-does not list any driver). I cannot even get into safe mode. I have tried startup repair(couldnt diagnose a problem) and running system file scan(no integrity violations). I cant get into win10 to get a crash log to submit for analysis. I have to roll back to windows 8.1. I have an amd fx 8350 cpu, nvidia gtx 770 graphics card, mb is asus m5a99x pro. Ram is 12 gb of supertalent 1866 el ddr3. I have made sure my drivers are up to date. I also have disabled antivirus during upgrade(avast 17.7.2314). Anyone have any suggestions to try or know how to get the system dump without being able to get into win10? I have updloaded the requested info from the bsod forums, but it obvioulsly doesnt have the bsod info as this is from my current 8.1 installation.
Thanks

Hello, I recieved a Windows 7 upgrade disc from Lenovo and was eager to upgrade from Vista. I put in the disc, followed all the steps properly, and I went to bed and then to school while it was upgrading. When I came back from school there was a message that said there was a problem and that it had to restart to restore vista. So it rebooted, and it went back to the setup screen with the blue backround and bird. It repeated the message. This happened a few times until I looked for help on the internet. I found that this had happened many times before, and that it could usually be fixed by going to the command prompt in the Windows RE screen, and typing cd d:\users (D is the drive where users is for me) and then typing dir /s |find "is too long" |more. This did not give me any results. I then looked for it manually by typing dir /s /p. again, no results. I read that this is because it is not a shell folder redirection problem, although the article I read it on gave no support on how to fix it if it were not a shell folder rediection problem. Could someone please help me try to fix this?

Thanks for your time,

Alex

Answer:Windows 7 upgrade infinite reboot

Try booting from the DVD to do a superior clean install: Clean Install Windows 7

When you boot the DVD it will scan the HD to see the prior OS, passing a flag to allow Upgrade version key.

An in-place Upgrade is often plagued by corruption imported from Vista, as you are finding.

So it all started last night when i accidentally tripped on my power cord, unplugging it from tthe tower during the login screen. At first, I thought nothing of it, and I just restarted the computer. But unfortunately I was met with the BSOD with that error code. All of the online solutions I have encountered that don't involve removing all my files or using a windows 8 installation disk I have tried.
So then after the BSOD I restart and get to a screen saying automatic repair failed. I try to refresh the PC- no luck. I'm definitely not resetting my PC and losing all my files so I go into advanced options. Foolishly I have no backup USB or anything so I try a system restore. Nothing happens, same old BSOD. Then I try the various command console solutions i found in the advanced settings command prompt. All of them don't work and give me a reply saying that the image was not found or "drwtsn32.exe" was not found in the image specified or whatever. It is always prefaced with "x:\windows\system32", not C:\. I cannot start in safe mode and disabling driver signature enforcement also didn't work. Any help before i just buy a windows 8 installation disk would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i built my PC back in august and have had no issues, until now.
I got a windows update notification

-updates
"Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems"
"Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3106932)"

as always i reset my PC when there's a windows update and when i do it cannot access the boot drive, so i proceed to go into the command prompt and input the "DISM /image:c:\ / cleanup-image /revertpendingactions" which puts me into the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

i move the pending.xml and pending.old
(via the "move C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.old" command) the folders and it works until i restart my PC and it brings me back to the inaccessible boot drive window and i have to move the folders again.... is there a permanent fix for this? it's really annoying and i'm totally lost

I tried upgrading to Windows 10 this evening, and during the installation process my computer rebooted a few times. The second time it rebooted, all I saw was a black screen and it stayed like that. I could see my mouse cursor on the black screen but nothing happened. I tried pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and that didn't work either. So after about 10 or 15 minutes of nothing, I powered my computer off. When I restarted, it restored my old version of Windows (7).

This is really annoying and I don't know what is going on. I'm tempted to just stay with Windows 7 and not try upgrading again because I don't want to screw anything up or lock myself out.

Any idea why I'm getting this problem?

Help!

I reboot my PC last week as the computer seemed not responding and I ended up like this:

First, it was a black screen with 'autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK

Then, the blue screen appeared, revealing the error code 0xc000021a

The computer automatically restarted and directed me to the automatic repair screen. Choosing restart will cause the PC to repeat the error again.

I tried the method stated in http://appuals.com/best-fix-steps-fix-error-0xc000021a/ but it does not work.

I downloaded GTA V from steam on the day before the PC crashed and I ran it. This was the only program I download recently before the PC crash

Please Help.

Greetings all,

I love your forums and been searching them for the last several hours. I've seen some great advice, however I haven't done anything due to the fact that all the situations seem different.

Here goes.

I booted up my comp this am and was greeted by the beloved BSOD... Windows Stop: 0xc000021a(0xc0000034) Error.

I cannot log on in Normal, SafeMode, Last Known good Configuration

I have an SP2 XP Pro Disc. I have access to the recovery console. I have done chkdsk. Alot of the posts have mentioned things like FIXBOOT or verifying I have certain files and etc. Anyone able to give me a hand getting this thing back up and running. One other piece of possibly relevant information. I ran a malware bytes scan on the comp. It found 1 error. I didn't pay attention to it, fixed it. Restarted and everything was good. 24 hours later, the BSOD came up.
Thanks

Yesterday I successfully installed Windows 10 as per Microsoft instructions only to find today an error message stating “Error 0xc000021a Terminate yes or no”. I clicked yes thinking this was the correct course of action, but unfortunately, I have not been able to connect to Windows since.
When starting my PC a message appears stating there has been a problem and will restart in a few moments. An automatic repair screen appears followed by a screen asking “Choose your keyboard layout”. This screen is frozen and I’m unable to use the mouse or touchscreen. I can proceed no further.
My PC affected is an HP Touch smart 310

Hi all.
I tried to upgrade my daughters Dell Vostro laptop a few months back (free windows 10 upgrade).
Unfortunately it fell short of the full upgrade and rendered the laptop unusable. However, the laptop did return to a working Windows 7 (I presume Home edition - not sure how I can find out at the moment) for a brief period.
It then returned the reboot loop: Error 0xcf000000f - every option including repair, safe mode does not work and it enters another reboot.
I have managed to test it (Dell ePSA Pre boot system) and everything checks out ok (and I'm currently running the last of the memory test activity) but I simply cannot get windows to work.
The Laptop was either pre installed with Windows 7 or the disk has vanished over the past few years (relatively old laptop).

F2, F8, F12 options are not working (pressed whilst rebooting).
My daughter has a lot of her past on there (she never backed up unfortunately) so I'm at a loss as to what I can do? Looked in to Repair CD option, but apparently that won't work if Safe Mode cannot be accessed?

Apologioes if I've missed any info out.

Many thanks.

Hi all, installing the latest insider build it downloaded OK, was going through the upgrade,
restarted a couple of times. Then it got to 75 %, restarted again. You see the small blue Windows
logo on the screen, and the small spinning progress indicator for about 15 seconds. Then it restarts
and repeats.

I was able to get into the recovery environment to run Chkdsk, but this has not
affected the situation. I have not attempted anything else, I wanted to see
if the forum had developed any consensus for this type of situation.

Appreciate any assistance.

After upgrading to Windows 10, I have to reinstall the drivers for the wifi adapter each time I start or reboot.  In device manager, the adapter shows up with no excalamation mark, but the wireless center shows only "airplane mode" as an option.  The networking troubleshooter does not identify problems to fix.

If I remove the Intel wifi adapter from device manager, and hit F5 (or Actions/scan for changes), the drivers are reinstalled and wifi immediately begins working.

If I restart or shut down, the situation above repeats.  Removing the adapter from device manager and refreshing the list of devices immediately resolves the problem without fail.

I use a TAP adapter for VPN as well; removing this adapter or reinstalling it or refreshing it has no effect on the issue.  (I have tried with and without the TAP adapter with no change.)  The TAP adapter worked in Windows 8.1 with no issues, as it is supposed to.

Any help would be appreciated, as this has been hours of troubleshooting and I cannot figure out what's wrong.  The adapter can't be bad, as it worked before, and works now provided I reinstall it after reboot.  The hardware is good.  The wifi is good.  Is there a BIOS setting?  Am I clicking on wifi using the right hand instead of left?  PEBCAK?

Thank you!

Greetings,

I receive a BSOD everytime I restart windows 8.1 or whenever windows restarts automatically to install updates (although it finishes updating successfully on reboot) with error code 0xc000021a. Besides that, the PC works normally. A few days ago the problem was reversed, i.e. Windows crashed on shut down with the same error but not on restart, this happened after I uncheched the Turn on fast startup option in power options which apparently solved similar problems for other people. I had to perform a Windows Refresh, keeping both files and installed apps intact, to reverse the PC in the previous condition so now it crashes again on restart but afterwards boots normally, though with some delay. I tracked the problem to Winlogon process terminating unexpectedly but I don't know how to fix the problem since a reinstallation of Windows didn't solve it. I suspect that a third party program is causing the problem and since I kept all of them after the refresh it still causes problems. Since I am not an expert however I could be totally wrong. The last incident happened today (18/02/2014) on restart due to a windows update. I would greatly appreciate any help offered on this matter.

Thank you

It gives me error 0xc000021a, restarts, fails automatic repair, then BSODs again.

Methods I've tried

chkdsk /f /r
sfc /scannow
system restore

Safe Mode does not launch and goes rigth back to the BSOD

Reset This PC also does not work, as it says it ran into a problem.

Because I can't even log in, I can't download Sysnative BSOD Dump + System File Collection App.

Asus S200E notebook, Win 8 Pro

I recently took in this laptop for my neighbor. The original idea was to scan and clean up the system. I set the laptop up in my office, ran an MSE full scan with no issues. Then ran a full Malwarebytes scan, which returned a few pups, which were removed.

After tending to other matters, I turned back to the laptop to find notification that there was a problem and windows had to restart. I ran another MWB scan only to have the system restart again. This time, the system tried to repair itself with automatic repair. No go. All reboots ended up back at the advanced startup options screen. No ability to restore the system image, no system restore. All I could get to was the cmd prompt.

Googling turned up all sorts of people with this issue (mostly older posts), but very few solutions.

This fix got my system booted again by removing pending update operations.

Apparently, an MS update is the source of the problem. To further reinforce this, until I turned off automatic updating, it would happen again. I also disconnected the machine from my network to revoke its internet access.

So the machine is no longer having start issues, but I'm not sure which update it is. I have 17 pending optional updates, but those haven't installed, so I doubt they're an issue.

Hi I've been experiencing BSODs for the past week and was using Windows 8. As many system files was corrupted I thought it was causing by my faulty hard drive. So, I freshly installed Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on my PC. Then, I installed all required drivers, Avast! Free Antivirus, Comodo Firewall and some softwares. Now again I am getting occasional BSODs. Even sometimes when my computer becomes active from idle mode it automatically restarts and after reboot it shows information about last BSOD.

I checked minidumps with nirsoft's BlueScreenView and got that those BSODs are caused by the same ntoskrnl.exe error 0xc000021a. I am no expert when tackling BSODs. I would greatly appreciate any help offered on this matter.

Thank you.

Hi RickDutta & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I apologize for the late reply but there are not many BSOD analysts and sometimes we do get overwhelmed as well . Your patience is appreciated.

I have analyzed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of them for informative purposes :-

I am upgrading some machines, most go without a hitch but some have a mysterious BSOD.

I attached the dumps of a Windows 8 machine, i use MDT to upgrade to Windows 10 v1607 + do windows updates. BSOD happens after the first real boot (which means upgrade + updates have been done)

GHUM-L-E82PHJ12-Thu_11_24_2016_173811_42.zip

Already tried swapping the disk in a very simular machine (same model, different bios) but the problem follows the disk.

Anyone who can help me or point me in the right direction?

EDIT: Something i forgot, these systems still boot in Safe mode! Tried cleanboot but no luck.

Answer:BSOD after upgrading 7/8/10 to Windows 10 V1607 => 0xc000021a

Hello and welcome to TenForums

The error seems to be related to a problem with the session manager initialisation.

Code:
WINLOGON_FATAL_ERROR (c000021a)
The Winlogon process terminated unexpectedly.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffde8e0026d0b0, String that identifies the problem.
Arg2: 00000000c0000022, Error Code.

2: kd> da ffffde8e0026d0b0
ffffde8e`0026d0b0 "Session Manager Initialization"

If you can boot into safe mode please try to run the system file checker and repair the system files. It might also be worth running a disk check with repair as well.

As this is my first post, I did look for similar issues, but didn't find one.

I am by no means a computer expert, but have grown up around them, and have used them actively for the majority of my life, so I have a fair familiarity with them.

I recently completed my first PC build, and everything worked flawlessly. Windows 10 installed and ran fine, all my hardware was recognized without issue, and everything updated automatically upon startup. My goal was a strictly game-centric build, no overclocking or anything.

I come home today, and realize that my PC goes into the windows auto repair immediately, prompting me with an 0xc000021a error. My motherboard debug LCD was prompting me with b2 (short) 99 (short) a2 (long) my manual is very vague about it, but from what I have gleaned, it has to do with my peripherals, so I unplugged mouse and keyboard (supposedly 99 represents one or the other), no luck.

I initially tried to do a system reset, and it got to about 20% (both with and without saving personal files) and said that the process could not be completed, so I resorted to safe mode.I tried booting the computer in safe mode just to try to make some progress, and then upon rebooting to enter safe mode, it froze. I let it sit for several minutes before I manually reset the computer. Now it cycles between black screen, and MSI logo back and forth. I can enter BIOS, if I time it right. I can't get it to bring up the windows advanced options screen (to do system... Read more

Hi All..

I was reviewing my windows updates and saw two optional updates that were pending. First one was for MS office and it went through fine. Second one was some update to AMD vision control center. During that update screen flashed couple of times and went for re-start. After that I am unable to get into the system. I tried safe mode/debugging/low resolution mode etc.. But all resulted in the same blue screen with the 0xc000021a error message.

I am able to go only to command prompt. Nothing else (fortunately I am able to backup my photos by connecting external hard drive and using command prompt). I checked the SRT log file but it doesn't say any issue. All passed.

I tried refresh PC but it came back and said "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes made".

I tried using win ISO image bootable flash drive. It couldn't get through me in (I just tried with PC repair option when I booted with ISO image).

Is there a way I can get over it without re-installing?

Thanks in advance...

Krishnan V

Answer:Windows 8.1 - Error 0XC000021A after optional updates

try.....
STEP 1: Enter cmd
STEP 2: Now in the Command prompt just type System Root\System32\Drwtsn32.exe -I?. This process will register the Dr.Watson as the default system debugger which has to be -> Press Enter.
STEP 3: Again type System Root\System32\Drwtsn32.exe and then in the window choose the option which are Append to existing log file, Create crash dump and Visual Notification.
STEP 4: After setting it up restart the computer by pressing F8 in the startup and select Last known good configuration.
STEP 5: Once it got booted up, again restart the system in the normal and now try to look at your optional updates to make sure not to install whatever may have broken it before.

If this does not work then you may have to reinstall.

Asus S200E notebook, Win 8 Pro, UEFI.

I have a g75vw Asus laptop which for the most part has worked fine. Late June the computer simply wouldn't boot into windows giving the error 0xc000021a next to the " " icon. This computer was originally using windows 7 but I upgraded soon after windows 8 was released in October. For about a week before the crashing, I had been using a ubuntu 12.04 live boot jump drive for learning python. It was after a linux boot that the computer crashed but I do not think the events are related. I had also installed connectify.me, a program that turns a laptops wi-fi adapter into a router which worked well for about a week before the crash. I have gone through all of the generic hoops including safe mode(s) system recovery using a usb flash drive, refresh, and the existent yet worthless self diagnosing tool. Microsoft was unable to help without a 100 dollar fee.

Answer:Windows 8 doesn't boot. Error 0xc000021a

0xc000021a error usually means some issue with crucial system files, which could be actually caused by some bad hardware as well. I'd start with checking hard drive... Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html/page__view__findpost__p__160520Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable. For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://storage.toshiba.com/storage-services-support/warranty-support/software-utilities#diagnosticNote : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here

I know I won't be able to use the full 4gb memory but that's okay.

I put 1 stick on the board(to see how it goes) on Slot 1. Bios says 2048 ram in post and within the setup itself it displays the correct information DDR2 667 mhz 2048 mb.

Now when I start windows it is stuck in an infinite boot loop, Last known config, safe mode, nothing works.

Windows 7 setup from boot also gets stuck while loading before it even starts( no reboot)

Motherboard:
Asrock 775 twins rev 2.0

I read now that the memory is So-dimm ddr2.. does it matter much?

I bought it 2nd hand and it just said ddr2 667 mhz nothing about sofimm so I bought it assuming it's normal ddr2 667 mhz..

The package says:

2gb PC2-5300 CL5 200 - Pin SODIMM

On the memory it says:

SO-DIMMs are usually used in notebooks. They are only 6cm long, and won't fit in your motherboard. Check out this link. SO-DIMM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the specifications for your memory:http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR667D2N5_2G.pdf

It ain't so-dimm.

Do you have access to another working computer? You might want to download and burn Memtest 86+. Then install both dimms in your motherboard, and boot from the CD and run some tests to see if the memory checks out ok.

You didn't say if you get stuck in the boot loop with your original memory installed? Can you clarify?

thanks

As the title says - the Latitude 7350 I have will not upgrade to Windows 10. After downloading and installing the Windows 10 upgrade, it boots to the Dell Logo and stays stuck there.
I have tried to disable secure boot and enable legacy ROMs, but this has not solved the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Addendum - the only way I have been able to get out of the situation has been by doing a factory refresh. Windows 8 successfully rolled back only once out of my 5 attempts to install Win10.

I booted my backup PC with Windows 10 Preview on it after seeing the availability of build 10041 announced. The update was there along with a lot of other invalid updates. I boot up WIN10 at at least every other day to see what's new. So I was surprised see so many of these other updates. Many of them were for Intel HD 4600 graphics and ASUS Bluetooth hardware that would be imbedded on the MB. But my Win10 PC is AMD based and has AMD Radeon 3300 on-board graphics and no on-board Bluetooth. The strange thing is that those updates that cause the error are appropriate for my other main PC which is ASUS Z97-PRO and Intel i-469K based with Intel on-board HD4600 graphics... and ASUS on-board Bluetooth. It's spooky but it is as if windows update is confusing its search with my other Windows 7 PC. In WIN10 9926 Windows Update you can't decline an update that the system finds for you.

The system suddenly does a restart and then it can't find the C: drive. I have to power off the power supply for 10 sec and restart to get back to being able to see the SATA1 drive. I had to work through three cycles of those invalid updates and on the last I got the final 21a error code... after that on the next Win10 boot the build 10041 started to install normally.

I have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server system that is crashing on boot with a STOP 0xc000021a (abnormal winlogon or csrss exit) with exit status 0x00000080. It is on an Integrated xSeries Server in an iSeries 270, but I'm pretty sure that this is a Windows problem, not one with the host AS/400 system, because I was able to install a Windows system in a new image, and use it to look at the contents of the original image (AS/400 PC compatibility cards allow you to switch between multiple PC OS images). I checked the system logs for the original Windows system, and there were no messages relating to the crash. Dr. Watson was set as the debugger in the registry, but it doesn't appear to be saving a log or memory dump. No msgina replacement is installed. I bought the system used, and it was crashing like this when I got it, so I am not sure what change triggered this crash. How do I find out what is causing this crash so I can fix it?

Answer:Windows 2000 Advanced Server STOP 0xc000021a

You problem c000021a error is from winlogon.exe crashing. If none of these work, you might have to reinstall windows and use backups to restore the files.I1.) Download the UBCD 4 Windows and if you have access to another server with the same OS, copy the file winlogon.exe to a flash drive, the file is located under C:\WINNT\System32\winlogon.exe. Boot to the UBCD, It will ask you what you want to boot to, use your arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows, press enter, and it will load a windows XP interface. If it asks you any questions about starting drivers, network is unneeded, and is it askes you about USB, press yes. You will need to insert the flash drive, and, go to my computer. Locate the flash drive, and, copy the winlogon.exe from the flash drive to C:\WINNT\System32. It may ask you if you want to replace an existing file, press yes. Now, restart the server and boot from the hard drive. If this fixes your problem, your are in luck, if not, follow these instructions. 2.) If you use a backup program that makes a bootable disk for recovering data, and you backed up the entire hard drive, try to use that. If your winlogon.exe file was deleted, this could recover it. 3.) If you use the backup program that comes with windows, and, you backed up the entire hard drive, you can repair windows be booting to your Windows 2000 server disk, when the screen comes up with the options, about 5 minutes after booting from the disk, hit "R" on your keyboard f... Today, I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to recover from a problem with winlogon.exe which caused a "Windows logon process terminated" error with codes 0xc00021a and 0xc000034.

I found this article and it helped but didn't solve the problem. I thought I was faced with having to run a repair of the Windows installation, if not re-install.

That is until I decided to scan winlogon.exe using one of the online scanning services, like Jotti or Virus Total, to see if winlogon.exe had been infected. That's when I discovered the file was MISSING from \windows\system32. A Google search on a missing winlogon.exe file turned up this thread which provided the solution I needed!!!!

Many thanks to "coderitr" for your post! Copying winlogon.exe from \windows\servicepackfiles to \windows\system32 solved the problem beautifully!

Thanks!!!!!

The firmware is contained in the DVD drive's electronics and you shouldn't have any problem, providing the firmware update was completed correctly. If you have any doubts and it's working OK, you could always do the upgrade again.

Answer:firmware upgrade?

I found this don't know if it will work:

RPC2 firmware where the number of "User Changes" and "Region Setting" snap back to the pre-flashing settings every time you cycle the power on the drive.

This effectively gives you an infinite number of region changes, without all the software BS required by an RPC1 firmware. For more info try Google, or a search on rpc1.org

Question: Firmware Upgrade

I have a DVD burner which is at least a few years old. I am trying to use 16x disks to burn DVD movies I downloaded and am having alot of trouble. I know i probably need to upgrade the firmware on the burner so it can handle the 16x blank disks. Can I forget about upgrading the firmware and just pick 8x as the burn speed and use the 16x disks or do i really need to upgrade the firmware? I was able to burn a data disc with the 16x discs with no problem, just not DVD video. Thanks.

Answer:Firmware Upgrade

Firmware does not affect DVD writing speed (unless there's something seriously wrong). If it succeeded in writing a data disk, it should be able to do the same with a video.

Sometimes a disk burning session fails without a special reason, try another disk. Of course, you can set your program to burn the disks at a lower speed. 16x is only the top speed at which the disks can be burnt not the only speed.

If a BIOS flash goes bad (and unfortunately a significant % do) then it is often the end for the drive, (or motherboard when the PC BIOS is being flashed).

The golden rule is never to flash a BIOS unless you are correcting a known hardware compatability issue. It isn't a recreational activity.

The problem is that if the failed flash prevents the drive from appearing on the IDE BUS, then it cannot be accessed to reflash it back to the original version.

I've had a problem with my internet dissconnecting a lot when I play online games, and sometimes when surfing the internet. I'm just trying everything to fix this, so I'm trying to upgrade the firmware of my router.

Answer:How do I upgrade my router's firmware

Hi hellbandit, Have a look here SBG6580 - How to get firmware upgrade? - Comcast Help and Support Forums
here is a quote from a poster

"That is not a modem, it's a gateway device and this is one of the big reasons many of us here recommend NOT to get combo gateways like this, it makes firmware upgrades impossible since they are controlled by Comcast and there is no offcial way request an update."

Does'nt look too good

Hey guys, I figure out that USB 2.0 and Windows 7 x64 and my mother board doesn't mix well. Having to disable USB 2.0 for them to work properly and apparently there is a firmware update for the "Peripherals" (usb's i guess). I was told this from a guy at a local joyce mayne, if anyone knows where the update is and where i can download it It would be awesome, and don't say I haven't looked on the gigabyte website cause I have and I couldn't find it. Thanks!

I don't even know if this is the appropriate place to post this but here goes. I got my wife a Canon G3 digital camera the other day and shortly after got an e-mail saying there were "firmware" upgrades available. Hell, I wouldn't know a "firmware" if it walked up and spit in my eye! Are these kinds of upgrades essential or are they by in large minor patches that the camera does not really need?

Answer:Firmware upgrade for Canon G3

If you arenít having problems downloading to your computer and donít intend buying a Canon external flash unit it doesnít seem to do much. I wouldnít mess with it as the Canon site points out that you can disable the camera if you screw up the update.

I have a different camera and havenít updated the firmware on it because it doesnít fix anything I have problems with. I generally donít upgrade firmware unless it does something useful. There is information on what your firmware update does here: http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/PSG3/PSG3_Firmware-e.html

Hi,

I have a DLINK DIR-632 Router that continually drops WIFI, and disconnects devices that are set to automatically connect to my network, often to the point where I must unplug both the router and internet modem just so that the issue can be fixed 70% of the time. It is extremely frustrating and I have spent most of my weekends attempting to resolve the problem, as this is the only real time I get a chance to sit down and look into it, so it's a big waste of my free time having to continue this way.

Anyway, I came across a thread from earlier in the year that has the potential to fix the problem, but the thread had expired so I couldn't add a post.
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1120634-troublesome-dlink-dir-632-routers.html

In summary it goes on to conclude that a firmware upgrade >> http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-632
can resolve the constant dropping out but I continually get a message showing:

"The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this Gateway, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the gateway may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed."

I have logged on as the admin, I d... Read more

Hello I have a X300 (6478-1HP) with the optional battery instad of the CD-ROM drive. That drive just stopped working, it just can't read dics anymore. I'm happy with my Samsung USB CD-ROM, runs great. But how can I upgrade my SSD drive with the new firmware just released? The readme.txt states that we should not use USB drives to do it. What now? Anyone tried already? Thanks,RebÍlo.--www.rebelo.org

Is the page down for good, or just temporarily?

If it's the latter, I'd wait for it to come back, as it'll have instructions for what you have to do, and you won't run the risk of downloading a corrupted/bogus firmware...

This evening, I happened upon a benchmark that I had not seen before and tried it with my P70. http://www.userbenchmark.com While overall machine performance indicators were very high, NVMe SSD sequential read performance between my two Lenovo-supplied 512 GB devices demonstrated a significant disparity.  Further, the faster one contains firmware ver. 6L0Q and the slower one, 5L0Q -- the parts appear to be  otherwise identical: I am assuming this variation is probably due to rev. level of firmware.  Does anyone know of a method (and location) for obtaining and installing the latest updates for these particular devices? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, i searched the forum but i didn't find anything similar, so here is my problem.
i bought a DVD+R DL RiDisc (CMC Manufacturer) and although NERO sees it as a DL, it can't write it, showing me this error
"Focus or tracking error
D: MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-841S
...Could not perform start of Disc-at-once".

i called the shop where i bought the disc and told me that the drive needs firmware upgrade...

So the question, how can i upgrade it and where can i find the firmware??

i know the manual don't say anything about CMC manufacturer, but only for MCC, TY etc, but perhaps some day i'll need this kind of discs.
the drive is Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-841S according to windows, but according to manual is UJ-841B. are they really different?

thank you all.

Answer:Upgrade DVD firmware on Satellite M70-160

Hi

I have read on some websites and other forums that not all DL medias are compatible.
I?m not sure if you need different firmware for UJ-841S and UJ-841B.
I have found this website. On his site you should be able to find many firmware applications.
Maybe you will find the right one:

After talking to Samsung, I need a firmware update for my combo VCR/DVD recorder. The model is DVD-VR350. After downloading the file from their site, I see it's a RUF extension. Never heard of it. Followed the instructions anyway & burned it to a CD-R. But my player just spits the disc back out saying it's bad. Anyone know how to get this file onto a CD-R so I can update the player? And what is a RUF file anyway?

There are no official Lollipop ROM's for your device. Plenty of unofficial, however I know of no one that will install it for you. Looks like a DIY job.

Alright, I have a Samsung SDR-430 DVD-ROM drive that I don't think works very well, and so I thought a firmware update might help it out.

So I downloaded the latest firmware for it, which consists of auto.bat, fromdos.exe, and aas109.obj files.

Using Win2K SP3, I tried running auto.bat from the command prompt. Get the error message NTVDM.exe has generated errors.

Tried it from a safe mode command prompt and get the same error.

I made a shortcut to the auto.bat and set it to Win95 compatibility mode, "Run in separate memory space" is checked, but greyed out. Ran that shortcut, got the same error.

So, I'm stumped. I know that NTVDM cannot directly access hardware, so how do I upgrade the firmware?? There's a memory settings tab on the properties for fromdos.exe, would anything in there help?

Thanks very much for your assistance!

Matt

I recently updated the firmware of my DVD/RW combo drive from the Dell website. Since then, I have had problems burning blank DVD media.

When I insert a blank DVD-R in windows the drive turns into "CD Drive".

Image burning software behaves in different ways, some see the D drive as "not accessible"; one will read the media as a DVD-R with "4488.06 MB free" but confusingly call it a CDROM project with 700 MB free; a final will go through the entire burning process of data, claim it was successful but upon opening/re-closing of the drive or examination of under the disc it is apparent no successful burning occurred at all and the disc is indeed -- still blank.

The drive can read and play DVD movies, previously-burned DVD data, music CDs etc.

Any ideas?

EDIT: This is a software not a hardware problem. DVDs burn fine in linux and can be read on both operating systems. Hmm.

Answer:dvd burning and firmware upgrade

What burning software are you using?
Sounds like you have a CD project selected in the software options
rather than a DVD project.
