Edge on my desktop vs. Edge on my SP3, Performance/Memory Usage after TH2

Question: Edge on my desktop vs. Edge on my SP3, Performance/Memory Usage after TH2

I have the same exact set up on both machines (very darn close) and Ive always noticed that Edge consumes around 500mb-1GB of mem upon start up with my predesignated 5 tabs.
After the TH2 update on my desktop, I was blown away that Edge now only consumed 30-150mb, even with a twitch stream rolling in the background for extra measure. However, on the SP3 (after TH2) the memory usage is still the same
What gives?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't know that one. But I have ditched edge until they get ad blocking capabilities baked in.

Now i'm using windows 10 but I had this problem also when using windows 8.1pro.
The windows 81.pro I have the original dvd here and I tried few times to make clean install.
Also windows 10 I got it free online and the same problem.

For example now i'm using Edge I have two windows opened in one I have 10 tabs open and in the other I have like 20 tabs open. But the problem happen also with two windows and 6 tabs open in each one.

The problem is that once I start Edge or Chrome on windows 81.pro or windows 10 I see in Task Manager that the memory usage is about 60%. Then after some times without doing anything special the memory usage raise to 80-85% then ine many cases also to 96-97-98%.

Now and in most of the times I have in the background a game running in this case battlefield bad company 2 that take about 600-800MB of memory.
But it happen even if I close the game.

The only way to push the memory usage down is in the task manager to shut down the Edge/Chrome and all it's tabs.
Then to start the browser again.
I tested my pc with memtest I don't have any memory errors.
I don't have any blue screens. Can't figure out where is the problem.
My brother have like 10-15 years old pc then my one with 4GB ram and he can open like 20 tabs of chrome without a problem.

While the memory usage raise to 85-98% everything is running slow all the pc is slow almost freezing.

Before finding a fix I was wondering if there is a way to dig and find what cause the proble... Read more

It also depends, what kind of and how many extensions you have.
Some of them might be causing it, try to temporarily disable all.
Finding a cause can be difficult, you can try CleanMem Free.

Since I bought my new Thinkpad Edge S430 (Windows 7 Home Pre. 64-bit) with the pre-installed software and configuration, my memory stays around 3 gb. I have 8 gb installed. At the beginning it starts with 1.9 gb and it ends at 2.7gb without any programm open yet. When you sum up the processes in the task manager you get around the half of the shown memory. It did some deinstallation, deactivating and installed the newest driver with the Thinkpad System Update. But this can not be or is this normal? Thank you for your help.

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15. I must say that right now I'm not too happy with it's performance. The biggest issue is that some (relatively small) Windows programs take ages to load. For example if I right click on the desktop and choose Gadgets it will take around a minute to load! Same is true for launching Device manager from Control Panel -> System. I'm also a little surprised that after startup I already have 30% of memory used. That's 30% of 4 Gigs. I have already installed all Windows and Lenovo updates. I chose this laptop with performance as my top criteria and tought that the Core i5 and 4 gb of memory would be more than enough and yet things seem very slow, even compared to my old computer. I'm sorry for such a rant post, but does anyone else have these issues? I'd appreciate comments on this, so I could judge if this laptop is actually malfunctioning and should be returned. Thanks!

Answer:Performance issues - Edge 15

Hi,I owned Edge 13, Intel,2gb and 7200K HD. And to be honest I am amaze with the performace, I am doing lots of heavy software development, like installing database, virtual machine and the speed everything is beyond expectation. I may suggest you run some kind of benchmarking testing tool to make sure there is no hardware failure. Good luck... Cheers..

I am really liking Edge, is nice and lightweight, launches quickly and has a nice minimilastic look however I am finding some sites seem to be really sluggish. Windows Central, XDA Forums and the notebook review forum are just a few that don't seem to work really well.
Some sites I find there are buttons that I click on that won't do anything, I just tried posting a question on the google forum and had to resort to using Chrome, sometimes I find I have to click elements several times beofre it will register a click.? I have the same issue on my desktop and laptop.
Also when I press the X to close the browser and get the message asking if I want to close all tabs and select yes it doesn't close any of them. Is anyone ?else having these issues it is a bit worrying with RTM right round the corner.

Answer:Microsoft Edge performance

Hey, same here. I like edge better than IE after this latest update. Sites mentioned by you open quicker and respond better than in IE. I used to have to use firefox to open wpcentral now for the first time it is via edge. It is a bit slower but once the page or should I say the script loaded page is full loaded it seems fine. the only thing that is not working atm is the headlines ribbon on top. It doesn't scroll with touch and the arrow is too slow to respond. Have you posted this as a problem via the windows feedback app?
Cheers

I was not sure where exactly posting this would be OK, so I am placing it here.
The performance of windowscentral.com is awful in edge browser, either a desktop or a mobile version. While pages from competition like engadget just work blazing fast, windowscentral loads and loads and loads.
For example on my mobile, L620 - 512MB device, I cant event load it up, it crashes my browser, while engadget works like a dream. And a lot of other sites work great on mobile edge.
I dont know if this is connected with all the adds that are being run on the windowscentral or the page is poorly optimized, but I think this is a bad PR for a site that is purely about windows.
PS, I hope posting a name of a competition site is not against forum ToS, I do apologize if it is.

Answer:windowscentral and Edge performance

Unfortunately Windows Central website and forums have A LOT of ads, banners, and sponsored content all over the place that hog down any browser performance on any computer/smartphone.
Solution -> Enable an efficient Ad-Blocker.
On 8.1 there are Tracking Protection Lists for Metro.IE11, while on Edge the only fully working Ad-Blocker is AdGuard at the moment (hoping and waiting to see TPLs official support or official Edge Extensions to come).
With those enabled, WPC flies. :)
Talking about phones, on Windows Phone there's IE Data Saving/Compression that you can set to "High" and nothing more you can do about it for now, while on Android there's "Adguard app" that does the trick.

Submitted this feedback to the Edge team but the performance of windowscentral in Edge compared to chrome is terrible. It has major scrolling issues and when typing in the edit box some keystrokes are not even making it through.
Perhaps if we get a grass roots effort here and have everyone submit feedback about this site the Edge team will use windowscentral as a worst case scrolling test case?
Chrome scrolls and renders this site fast and fluid but Edge and IE can get almost unbearable.

Answer:windowscentral.com performance in Edge

Why not submit feedback to Mobile Nations? Seems like there might be a problem on their end.

"Does anybody have a Thinkpad Edge 13, or other SULV/ULV/AMD Neo based laptop? I want to know how limiting the slow CPU is.."

Answer:Need opinions on Edge Performance

I have a variety of PCs and laptops for work and home.  My work Thinkpad x61t uses a more powerful Core 2 processor than the SU7300 in the Edge (my personal laptop). I think the Edge is great for watching videos, surfing the web, and doing work.  Where it falls short is gaming and heavy multimedia like video editing or converting a movie for an iPod quickly. Honestly, when I ordered the Edge I was afraid that I'd be quite unhappy with the SU7300, but I'm quite surprised at how well it handles most of my everyday tasks.  With Windows 7, it feels quite zippy.

For some reason when viewing CNN.com on Edge the browser runs VERY slow and becomes non-responsive. I do not know if this is a major issue or not but I do hope a Microsoft rep watches here so they can take my dump file and figure it out before launch...
Fresh Install, 100% up-to-date as of 2:11 PST, and Edge was the only thing running and only the one tab for CNN.http://1drv.ms/1SLEurt

Answer:CNN + Edge = 46% CPU Usage

Same is happening for me. Something on CNN triggers horrible performance from Edge.

I've seen several people state that they've noticed that Edge now performs better than Chrome and that they feel like it's faster. I've used Chrome as my default for years and always found it to be lightning fast. I don't find Edge to be slow necessarily, but when compared to Chrome, it doesn't really compare.

So I'm wondering if there are certain settings that some of you may have that may boost Edge's performance - either in the Advanced settings or about:config?

For many people who have almost exclusively used Modern and Desktop IE, do you guys notice that Microsoft Edge consumes far more RAM and much higher idle CPU usage than Modern/Desktop IE?

One way to test this is to open cnn.com on both browsers one at a time and observe how much CPU and RAM Microsoft Edge consumes compared to IE. Browser power efficiency is critical for me as I use a tablet primarily.

Also, as an option for those using Intel CPUs, you can download a temperature/CPU frequency monitoring program to see the idle CPU usage for both browsers

Answer:Microsoft Edge performance and efficiency

I looked at the memory and processor usage of both browsers doing the same things, and it looked like IE11 was using several times more memory than Edge as well as far more processor time than Edge. Edge was created as a Universal Windows Platform app that could run well on everything from desktops down to phones.

Pretty interesting stuff. I'll let the video speak for itself.
What has your experience been?

Answer:Edge performance vs Chrome and Firefox

Interesting indeed. Oftentimes when you ask a person about their primary browser, they'll say Chrome. I'll fess up and admit that I rarely use Edge and don't even have Firefox installed, so I won't be able to make a comparison between the three. I honestly think that if Google were to do the same test, they'd probably showcase Chrome as being the most efficient. Or would they be honest and give credit where it's due? Who knows sure...

Hello to all, This is my first post.
Today I found out that Google had limited its search service on Edge by MicrosoftInsider.es, and this happens
This is a great hoax, and also seems to make it or for two reasons:
1. Attempt of Stop of growth of Microsoft Edge
or 2. Google Revenge
What is the solution? This:
Press F12 (if you are on a laptop press Fn + F12), This open the F12 Tools
After go to Emulation, in Browser select or Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, and Solutionated.
Well, I hope to see their opinions and also see that users of Google in Edge make.

I'm not exactly sure about what you're saying.. Afaik Google hasn't implemented any limits for Edge users. Do you have proof of this? The picture you have added does not proof that Google has implemented a limited number of searches for Edge users

Microsoft Edge does not have any control buttons, from the opening page you have to search to get to any website.
Does anyone know how to get these to work in edge? As of right now it is a useless program and a huge step backwards from IE11.

I've been having this problem since I upgraded to the creator's update. Sometimes everything works perfectly, but most of the time I have these issues:

Edge won't connect to internet or load anythingI can't close tabs in EdgeThe "Close all tabs" option in edge doesn't work, only closes 1 tabI can only get Edge to close using Task ManagerWindows Store apps like Twitter and Netflix won't connect and also sometimes won't closeI can't check for Windows updates through settings (won't connect again)

The internet works on third party apps that weren't downloaded in the Windows Store, like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Spotify. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or how I could fix it? Thanks so much!

Answer:Internet Not Working in Edge & Windows Store Apps, Edge Won't Close

Hi ineedhelppls. Welcome to the TenForums @ineedhelppls

First thing I would do is run these commands at command prompt(admin). In the following commands do not key in the information in brackets, it is there to tell you what command does.

ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)

Test.

Then I would disable IPv6. You will notice it can be enabled just as easy.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...nts-in-windows

If you still get issues I would recommend a network reset. You will lose wireless passwords.

Start=>Settings=>Network and Internet=> scroll down to bottom on the right hand side, last option, Network Reset.

I ve bought thinkpade edge 13 (0221RY6) and formated my hdd (was trying to install win XP). But now i am ready to switch on Windows seven and i am very sorry that i ve formated my HDD with pre installed windows 7.Somebody who has same machine PLS Can u give me your copy of recovery usb or link on it! Or any other help.THANKS!

Answer:I have lost my Recovery HDD with pre installed windows 7 on ThinkPad Edge 13 edge PLS Need HElp!

This is why one should burn recovery media before fiddling with the HD.

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it.  Or borrow one.  You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation.  You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32.  I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type.  That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download.  Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update.  You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages.  Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

Edge is using over 6GB of RAM ... is this normal?
I have 24GB of RAM so its not a big deal but it is curious...

Answer:Massive RAM usage by Edge...?

Holy crap, that's crazy. I'm going to say it's a memory leak of some kind. Best thing to do would to check for updates for Windows. Am I correct in assuming that you are running build 10240 (RTM)?
Another culprit could be Adobe Flash related websites as Edge loads a separate container for those kind of things.

As of late, my computer has gotten so slow. Even on Microsoft Edge, the browser constantly hangs and says it's not responding. Sometimes it will even crash.

I have scanned everything with MBAM, SAS, and my antivirus program and they found no threats and still no sign of any performance gain. I have even optimized my disk with Disk Cleanup and ran the Defragmenter. No help whatsoever.

I am really getting tired of the problems with Windows 10. I am a big Microsoft fan, but enough is enough.

Please help!

I want to see if this issue is just my computer, or is it universal.
When using Edge, I find that loading websites, or advancing pages, is very very slow. It would appear that most of this occurs while the pages load all of the ads that I never read. Trying to read a simple article takes far too long because of this.
Maybe this is because of all the ads, or maybe it's an Edge issue, or maybe it's my computer ( least likely situation ).
If others have seen this, have you found any solutions. One of the greatest offenders is the MSN site, but Windows Central is also sluggish. Most of these sites are large, and established. Also, my download speeds are quite fast ( over 100Mbs ).
Your thoughts will be appreciated.
Tim

For me, it's even slower than IE. I'm typing this on my phone because I can't even open WC on edge. It kind of froze. Both chrome and Firefox are way faster.

The Edge Browser was unbearable for me when it initially loaded an ad-heavy site (particularly this site). In the about:flags, I enabled "Improve performance by using independent composition..." and "Enable experiential javascript...". Since I did that, I no longer have to wait for a website to become responsive to input.

I tried upping from recommended 250% to 350% for use of a genealogy program made that program larger but nothing else and if I use pinch to spread out and enlarge then screen impossible to work on because it just jumps from side to side I set everything back and restated and still the same display smaller than before.  I have Nvided GEForce 960M video card and right now laptop is useless.

Answer:Display on XPS Infiniti edge to edge now so small cannot read anything

I didn't even realize you could go that high.  When I tried 250%, some things became so large that it became impossible to click important buttons since there wasn't enough display area to present them.  It sounds like your genealogy program isn't scaling-aware.  Also note that in some cases, after changing the scaling setting, you need to log off and back onto Windows for the change to fully take effect.
Also, what version of Windows are you running?  The display scaling functionality has changed significantly with each release of Windows from Win7 on, including within the various releases of Windows 10.

Answer:Edge 11 -- Does it have the hissing noise problem with headphones like Edge 13?

I have an Edge 11 (Intel) and have no hissing sound with the headphone jack. I was actually very suprised when I first plugged headphones in, having getting used to the hissing noise on my Edge 13.

My brand new Edge 11 (2545-3RG) that supports Max 2x2GB=4GB RAM was delivered with 2GB RAM in SLOT-0 (FRU 55Y3716, 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333, which is the default, according to the hardware maintenance manual and the information on Lenovo Support site). In order to upgrade to 4GB Dual channel, I put an identical second 2GB stick (also FRU 55Y3716) in SLOT-1.The following happened:-  BIOS recognizes that 4096MB are installed.-  Win 7 x64 reports in System Properties that "Installed memory (RAM): 4GB (1.75GB usable)".The size of the usable RAM, 1.75GB is 2GB in SLOT-0 minus 256MB allocated for the graphics.- Windows applications can only "see" and use 1.75GB - Special utilities, such as Speccy, do "see" both modules.Speccy reports Total Memory Size as 4096MB. It is also supposed to display some detailed information about the memory in both slots. The information about the memory in SLOT-0 (here called Slot #1) contains, as expected, all details about Manufacturer, Part number, Serial number etc. However, the detailed information about the memory in SLOT-1 (here called Slot #2) is missing! Not even frequency in Max Bandwidth field is displayed! The bottom line is that the memory in the second slot (SLOT-1) is unusable. To avoid speculations, there is 100% guarantee that all memory sticks are in full working order. Has anyone else had this problem? skylark

Answer:Edge 11 memory upgrade failure - 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 memory in the second slot is unusable

I have experimented a lot and found a temporary workaround. If  you keep the original 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333Mhz in SLOT-0 and put instead 2GB PC3-8500 DDR3-1066Mhz  in SLOT-1, suddenly the second stick is correctly recognized everywhere, and everything works as it should. As a curiosity, the opposite doesn't work at all and the laptop won't even boot!Even if this workaround does work, the core issue still remains.Lenovo, please provide a response to this hardware issue! skylark

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15 and I'm wondering if backlight bleed is a common problem with it. There are several places around the edge of the display where the backlight discolors the screen. I've attached a picture; note the top edge of the screen especially. Is this normal, or is it worth looking into a repair?  Also, I'm surprised that this model does not appear on Lenovo's website at all. I have only found one review for it, and it seems Best Buy was the only one to sell it. Anyone know about that? EDIT: Apparently my thread was moved to the ThinkPad Edge forum, though I'm pretty sure that this is not a ThinkPad Edge series device (as far as I can tell that series was discontinued and this was not ThinkPad branded). If someone could clarify that would be awesome. Thanks!

Hi, not sure where to post this.

It seems fine; however, one thing that annoys me is that my photographs, when in screensaver mode, are not Edge to edge and have about an inch and a half thick black bar at each side. The aspect ratio and everything else seems to be the same as my previous Samsung monitor but the Samsung monitor displayed the screensaver photographs from edge to edge. Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks

Hello. I noticed that my most visited websites (when you left click the search / URL tab in Edge) doesn't show up anymore. I also noticed a strange behavior most likely related to this: the CPU usage went up 40% when I clicked on it and when I visit new websites. It only lasts for 5-7 Seconds and then it goes down to normal usage (1-5%). This issue randomly appeared and without an update through WU. I can also see this problem on my laptop so it's not an exclusive issue on this computer. Have anyone else seen this? I'm on the latest Windows 10 version (non-insider build).

Answer:Microsoft Edge High CPU Usage when Clicking the Search & URL Tab

No one? Two major updates later and no fix or solutions? I've seen this behavior now on all PC's that I own and my friends own. Maybe it is an issue per region? I dunno, but this is an odd one to figure out. Just clicking at address bar at the top doesn't bring down my recently visited websites, and the CPU usage goes up when it happens.

Answer:battery usage and lenovo small business solution for edge 430

You can install Lenovo Solutions Center (replaces ThinkVantage Technologies) here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=LENV-DIAGS#lsc

Then you can adjust all of the battery settings in Power Manager, including ways to increase battery longetivity.

You can charge it overnight and set an upper limit and it will stop charging. (You can set it to stop charging at a certain percentage, for example, 80%)

Hope this helps.

Recently, I have had a box pop up when using Edge saying "Close programs to prevent information loss" and "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs". I have been using Edge or what ever it was called since Microsoft first introduced W10 as a test program and this has never happened before. That typically means that your virtual memory is running low, and you may not have enough memory allocated to your swap file.

I have 20 tabs opened.
I think my computer should be able to handle that.

Answer:Edge using a LOT of memory

At the moment edge os a massive resource hog. I had to stop using it. Plus the fact ads were everywhere. But I would have about 2 hrs battery life on my Acer timeline using edge and over 8 using ie.

I'm not looking to buy either one of these ram, beacuse they are generic. But I will be working for a store that only offer's these ram. Which would be the better ram to reccomend to customers just looking for ram. Pny or Edge?

Answer:PNY Ram Or Edge Memory, which is better?

Given only those two choices, the PNY brand is better. PNY is also known for their products of nVidia GeForce graphics cards.
To be honest, I've never heard of Edge RAM before. PNY memory is more vastly distributed, and it has more Google image serach results too.

Hi

I have noticed on this new laptop that Edge is using more and more memory the longer I use it. Memory usage was often down in single figures when I first got the laptop but is not generally at 50% or more with one edge window and 3 tabs open....see attachment - this is definitely affecting the performance on this new m achine which is not exactly low end.

Any suggestions on how to control this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I am using the Edge browser frequently (I just think it works easy) but recently I noticed it really consumes memory. Just now I even got a message telling me that I needed to take some action because it was almost using 100% (of 8 GB!)
I therefore checked Task Manager and found out Edge is really using a lot of memory, see the picture below.
At this specific moment I was using around 15 tabs in Edge, which is not extremely much (I think...) I can end this task in the manager without any problem and Edge doesn't get shut down. After ending this task, it slowly starts growing again till a certain point and it starts all over again.
Does anybody experience this same problem, know what the cause is and maybe have a solution? I would be very gratefull!

Answer:Edge consumes memory

Well, you do have 15 tabs open after all and judging by the size quite "hefty" tabs as well. If you try with firefox, you will get similar results :).

I am currently using MemClean and it not only decreases my memory use but it also seems to improve the general performance of Windows and apps.

Is this really the case or is it just my impression?

Answer:Do Memory Cleaners improve the memory usage and performance?

It is just your impression.

Windows 7 has very good memory management on it's own and has no need for and will not benefit from any third party memory "cleaners", "optimizers", "boosters", etc. The only very questionable benefit is to make the numbers in Task Manager more attractive to those who do not understand them.

David Solomon and Mark Russinovich, both well recognized Windows experts, mentioned these programs in the Microsoft publication "Windows Internals", sixth edition. They were very critical and did not recommend these programs.

Windows 7 I am on a Gateway Intel 400 2 gb Ram 1 Tb harddrive using my large screen TV Mitsibuish as my monitor. Since installing Windows 7 my display has been edge to edge on my TV display. Recently after downloading a startup utility called starstartup my display changed with a two inch border on all sides. I have since deleted the startup utility but the border remain. I restored my computer to an earlier restore point nothing changed. So I think there must be another reason for this change in the display. I attempted to change the resolution which was on 1920 X 1080 to a lesser resolution but that didn't correct the display. So the resolution is back to 1920 X 1080. I clicked on full screen mode stay the same. Would like to get back to the edge to edge display. Hope you can help. Xandr

Then I may get an almost new laptop.Do you think it will work, will the older mainboard fit in the newer machine? Thanks.

I attempted to change the resolution which was on 1920 X 1080 to a lesser resolution but that didn't correct the display. So the resolution is back to 1920 X 1080. I clicked on full screen mode stay the same. Would like to get back to the edge to edge display. Hope you can help. Xandr

My Edge 2-15 Lenovo Laptop just didn't want to boot up. We were able to eventually get to the start screen and opened the task manager, it seems windows defender component is taking up a lot of memory. Tried to do a safe restart but didn't work. Help!

Answer:Edge 2-15 - Can't boot, stuck on either black screen or if lucky, login screen Lenovo Edge 2-15

Me again! At this point (after 2 lost days of work!) We don't have anything special saved on there, it's all in the cloud (scary), so a reset would be awesome. My partner tried the a USB boot (since the battery is integrated and we can't remove and there are no cd/dvd drives, we made a usb flash drive). No success. Also: It's been 'upgraded' to windows 10.

Big file WMI cdrivebackup.wim under Q:Lenova Recovery 9,109,722 KB Is this the problem with no memory left and if so can I delete

Answer:No Memory Lenovo Edge E420

If you have no space available then make some. The Q partition has the factory install data, and you should back it up so you can go back to factory settings should anything happen to your computer. After that, you can delete it.Your computer should include a backup utility for that, look around the lenovo programs. Back it up in 1 CD and 4 DVDs and then you can delete it if you want to recover those ~13gb.The space will only be released, and not reallocated to any partition though, so you're gonna have to partition it yourself. If you aren't computer savvy just make some room in your c drive. Delete old programs, big files you downloaded and don't need, etc.

That screenshot is just after firing up Edge. After about 20 minutes, it calmed down to normal.
I had only one tab open, the URL was Wonderwall .com which can be a pretty memory intensive website. Flash was turned off.
I don't use Edge that often, maybe once a week, and even then for just about 20 minutes, then it's back to Cyberfox. So, I don't know if that would have anything to do with the high memory usage, maybe it was updating? Seems awful high.

Answer:Is this much memory being used normal for firing up EDGE?

I just opened Edge and went to Wonderwall, the memory usage is barely 150MB, your edge memory usage is nearly 5x mine what I would say is way too much.

EDIT: A small question, what program is it that you use for checking the memory usage?

Hello all! I have a question for the more advanced users or, why not, for someone from Lenovo. I am the proud and fresh owner of a Thinkpad Edge 14" model NVS3GRI (machine type 0199-3GG). For full specs, see [1]. Currently, it has 2GB of DDR3 RAM, rated 1066 MHz. I am planning a memory upgrade which, hopefully, will give my rig new wings. Here's what I have in mind: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX1333C7S3K2_4G.pdf  The question is: will my Lenovo Edge successfully use this memory? That is, could the 1333MHz frequency of the memory(increased, compared to the standard 1066MHz) damage the notebook? Or will it run just fine? Thank you!  [1] http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=01993GG

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 14" memory upgrade

Anyone? Please, if someone knows an answer, post it here ). I don't want to try a new memory and risk bricking my Edge .

In my thinkcentre edge 73z (All-in-one) there is only one memory installed. Its configuration is PC3 12800 - SODIMM - 4 GB.Using a program to see the memory specifications, there was an information about its speed: 800 MHz.Reading about the how memory functions, I saw that DDR uses the dual mode to be able to double the frequency. So, I would like to confirm with this community if the only one memory card that I have installed in my think centre edge 73z can run transfers at 1600 MHz.If no, must I install another card to have the frequency desired?

I was looking at my memory and shocked at how much was used. The version of Windows 10 I'm on now actually shows how much memory each tab is using. I went to Windows Central and left my machine for a while. It currently is using 3,814 MB!!! Almost 4 GB? My Visual Studio 2017 solution with 28 projects in it only uses about 1 GB at the moment. What's going on?

I have a Thinkpad Edge 14, 0578-CTO, running Windows 7 64-bit.   Latest BIOS, latest drivers, updates, etc. I know from the support pages that 8GB of ram is maximum, assuming that you are using two 4GB chips. I however, have one memory bank that is bad, and I am wondering if the machine will support a single 8GB chip in one of the slots?Has anyone tested this or can verify this before I order it?Please advise.

hi, i was wandering why my thinkpad edge 11's ram only run at 400mhz instead of 666mhz? The tech spec said it support 1333 ddr3, the 2gb ddr3 that comes with the laptop is  as the tech spec specified so it should run at 666mhz just fine. i am quite familiar with setting PC's bios, and i suspected that the thinkpad bios set wrong FSB:RAM ratio. checked with cpu z it show that the FSB:RAM ratio is 4:12 where the correct ratio should be 4:20. the problem is i cant set this ratio as the laptop bios dont have this setting. so how do i fix this? My thinkpad edge 11 spec : intel core i3 380um , 2 gb ddr3 1333

Hi,I have Thinkpad Edge 15 and it have 4GB ram with windows 7 ultimate 32 Bit ,only 2.49 GB of ram is usable I think it shared to graphic card.can I disable shared memory? Thanks

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 usable memory

Correct the .51gb has gone to the GPU. the 4th GB will not be used since you have a 32bit OS. You need to get a 64bit OS to use all of the 4 gigs of ram.

You need 64-bit OS to utilize 4GB RAM, XP wouldn't recognize more than 3GB.

Hope this helps.

Is anyone else having issues opening Edge on more than one desktop? I can open everything thing else, but when I try to open Edge on two different desktops, it just pushes me back to the desktop that Edge is opened in. It seems like desktop programs will open on both, but any app won't. I tried a few others such as the store and have the same problem.

Edge icon on desktop after creator update is different, the e is very small while the text is correct.
I have icons set at medium, changing to large makes them way too large.
Icon works fine, it is a minor annoyance but would like it back to the size it was.
I have looked up creating another icon, that is way more involved than I want to get into.
Is there another way other than making folder and telling it what to do.

can I copy the "Favorites" file from my desktop to my laptop so that I don't have to enter one-by-one each site and mark it as a favorite on the laptop?

My edge browser is causing my computer to become unusable. It takes several minutes for Taskmanager to come up, but when it does, it shows Edge using several GB of memory. When the computer is working okay, Edge only takes up 100mb or so.
is there anyway to fix this? I have two other computers on Edge and they don't do this.

Answer:Edge takes up huge amounts of memory

Grab Sysinternals Process Explorer and run it to see which sub-process is killing CPU cycles. You can go in and tweak Cortana, so that it is not sending data to Bing.com, along with settings in System that deals with Telemetry. Windows Sysinternals: Documentation, downloads and additional resources

The other is do not log in with the email for a Live account. Use a standard Local network type account. Lastly move over to maybe Firefox or Chrome, which you have a lot better security options to help restrict what Flash and Javascript can do to keep Pop-overs and such from killing your browsing sessions.

Answer:Edge Takes Up Huge Amounts Of Memory

1. Don't use Edge, 2. Use O & O's Shut Up 10 program to shut down the massive amounts of unneeded activity.
Aside from that, on that specific system you would need to investigate start ups as the slowness may be caused by too many start ups not needed.
Autoruns is good for that:

Hi AllI have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 420s (4401) running with 8GB memory;(2*4gb). I need to upgrade the memory to 16gb (2*8gb). Lenovo says this model supports a maximum of 8GB.Can anyone give some ideas about this whether this model can be upgraded or not. Also one of the memory module is seated just below the keyboard, what about the other one? Where it is fixed? Its seen many web sites selling 16 gb memory module kit for the same model. But confused by lenova explanation on the maximum upgrade is possible upto 8gb. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Upgrade-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Laptop-204-Pin-DDR3-PC3-10600-DDR3-1333MHz/dp/B0123... https://www.compuram.biz/memory,lenovo,thinkpad,e420s,16gb,crk16384d3-1-lenty371x_s004393.htm

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 420s Memory Upgradation

I have not tried it, but I would expect that 2X8GB would work fine.  The second slot is under the motherboard and it requires the motherboard to be removed to get access.
