Preferred Solution: Previously working USB device not recognized after Windows 10 update, how can I get it working?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Previously working USB device not recognized after Windows 10 update, how can I get it working?

You may need to try rolling back your USB drivers (or install the original drivers for your mouse from the manufacturer). I had a LAN driver get screwy with Win10 and I rolled it back to the original Win7 driver and it resolved the issue.

Hi everybody,

I read the topics in the forum, but I did not found something that suits my needs, so I start a new thread.

I'm running a Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit on a nHP EliteBook 8470p laptop, and I'm experiencing a strange issue.
Connecting a USB device to the port, it works properly for some time. At a certain moment, while it is still plugged, I get an error of USB malfunction (code 43).
Since then, when I try to reconnect the device, it always failed with the below error message:

Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

and I'm not able to succesfully reconnect device to my laptop any more.

The same things happened with two different USB devices, a pendrive and an external HDD.
In addiciton, I've tried both of them on two other different laptops running the same OS (Win 7 Enterprise 64bit), and they work without any issue.

Can anyone help me with any idea?

Thanks a lot

Please be gentle, as I am new to the forum and not the most well-versed in all things tech! The external hard drive that I have been using without a problem for the past year is all of a sudden not being recognized by my computer. I restarted twice, and each time it recognizes it initially, but the moment I try to open a file or copy something onto the drive it shuts down and cannot be recognized again. When I restarted again after that, the hard drive isn't recognized at all. Autostart doesn't run, and nothing appears in My Computer. It doesn't appear in the device manager (or, if it does, not under anything recognizable that I would reasonably believe would be linked to this device), and I don't see anything happening in the event manager when I plug it in or take it out. I have tried it multiple times in all 4 of my USB ports. I tested the hard drive on another laptop, and it works perfectly--no hitches, the files open properly, and nothing appears corrupted. Please help? I am the black widow of electronics, but even this is new. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inpsiron 1525. My external is a WD Elements SE Portable, and I am about to lose my mind. Thanks!

Answer:Previously Recognized External Hard Drive No Longer Working

I had a similar issue with an external drive when another USB device was plugged in. The hard drive worked fine in my desktop or in the laptop with no other USB devices connected but not when another device was plugged in. Probably a power issue or something. Could that be the issue with yours as well?

The other thing is, just in case your hard drive is on the brink, it might be best to back anything important up in that other system that can still read it.

I attached a 80GB HDD via a USB 2 external enclosure to my laptop, which supports USB1.1. I did a successful copy of the internal hard drive to the external hard drive. When I attached the external enclosure later, I started getting the USB device not recognized message. The drive/enclosure works fine on my desktop, which supports USB2. A second external enclosure with a different HDD works fine on both.

I've tried all the following:

HDD #1 (20GB) in enclosure #1 = works in both desktop and laptop
HDD #1 (20GB) in enclosure #2 = works in desktop but not in laptop
HDD #2 (80GB) in enclosure #1 = Works in both desktop and laptop
HDD #2 (80GB) in enclosure #2 = Works in desktop but not in laptop

The problem must be with enclosure #2 but why does it work on the desktop but not the laptop? Especially after I successfully copied the laptop internal drive to the 80GB HDD in enclosure #2.

I've tried powering off the laptop (no A/C, battery out) and a procedure I found at another forum that involved deleting the USB devices with no success.

The desktop that works in a Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP Home with all current updates.
The laptop is a Dell Latitude C610 running Windows XP Pro with all current updates.

My Acoustic Research AWSEE2BK speakers were working about 2 weeks ago (last time I used them) and today they would not connect. I removed and reinstalled them a couple of times, this has worked in the past when I have not been able to connect to them. At this point, they are installed under Bluetooth devices, but they are not in the device manager - they used to be under sound and game controllers - and of course not in the manage audio devices, where they also used to be. Today they ended up under Peripheral bluetooth device in the device manager, and the drivers could not be installed. After much monkeying around, I uninstalled them again, and then they quit showing up in the device manager too. I have spent many hours on many forums and pretty much every manufacturers website I think, and cannot figure this out. My bluetooth radios are Dell Wireless 1704 Bluetooth v4.0+HS and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. I did go to the Broadcomm website and update the driver. I have also checked the Bluetooth support under features and made sure the settings were automatic and started, and I also re-started this feature. I have run the trouble shooter for playback devices and got no where because the speakers are not connected. Under device manager, when they were showing up as peripheral bluetooth devices, I tried to update the drivers from there. I have tried 'disabling' the built in computer speakers and reinstalling the BT speakers when the computer speakers were off and that did... Read more

I am helping a friend that has a HP Pavilion Vista Machine.  It was not working but I was able to backup pictures, music, etc.
I then did a restore to Factory Condition and all is working well except the DVD/CD drive.  It shows in Device Manager and shows that it should be working. When a disc is inserted it you can see the drive light working but it will not open either a CD or a DVD.
I have a Windows 7 copy that I want to put on the machine but with the DVD not working I can't install.  I would sure appreciate any ideas.  The machine has a dual core processor and 6 gigs of RAM so I am sure it would handle Windows 7.  Please give me some ideas so I can get Windows 7 installed.
The Device Manager shows no errors on any of the devices.
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Answer:DVD/CD Recognized in Device Manager but isn't working

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "it shows that it should be working". The only way to know if an optical drive is working is - well - whether or not it works. I'm guessing you've tried several discs (blank and recorded) with no success? If so, the likelihood is that the drive needs to be replaced. They are neither expensive nor hard to replace, so if I were you I'd get a new one.
One other thing you can try is to move the device to the top of the boot order in bios, insert a bootable disc, and reboot. If the system sees it and boots to it, then the problem is something in the OS. If it doesn't, then for sure you should replace the drive.

This just randomly happened while I was on the internet, but my USB mouse stopped working. I didn't think it was a big deal so I just unplugged the mouse, and plugged it back into a different port. I got a pop up that said "device not recognized". So, I just rebooted the computer, and tried to plug the mouse in again. Still, same message no matter which of the four ports I plug into. It doesn't matter what device I use either. I have a USB webcam that does the same thing. These devices work perfectly on two other computers, and I've confirmed that since this issue began yesterday.

So I go into the Device Manager, and try to uninstall the driver and reinstall. That doesn't work. I tried to update the drivers, that doesn't work either. I've tried to uninstall everything under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers drop-down flag in the Device Manager and then restart, that didn't work.

I've tried restarting in Safe Mode, and then running the command line "sfc /scannow", and it didn't detect any problems. I've tried it in normal mode with and without the mouse plugged in. Still didn't detect anything.

I ran a System Restore to my earliest point, and that didn't work either. I ran everything in CCleaner (why not), Emergency Kit Scanner and Avast, and that didn't detect anything. I ran the download from the Fix It Center from Microsoft. It just tells me what I already know...nothing.

So I then I unplugged my laptop, took the battery out and let it sit overni... Read more

I have a netbook that was dropped and wasnt charging. I took it apart to check to make sure that it wasnt the plug in port thingy. That looks fine (I came to find out that the cable was bad, and now it charges fine) anyway after putting it back together I ound that the keyboard suddenly stopped working. Before I took it apart the keyboard was working just fine. I looked at it in device manager and it says that it is there (and that it is working correctly) so I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it (through device manager) Still the same resultes. If I plug in a usb keyboard it works fine. If I take out the hard drive and put it in a different system it works fine there as well. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Hello everyone, Since monday I have some problems with fingerprint authentication via Windows Hello. It seems to have stopped working for some reasons I don't know. At the beginning, I thought it was a hardware issue but it doesn't seems to be. I'll explain why. Problem description:  When I try to authenticate via fingerprint, OS redirects me to PIN authentication automatically. So I removed my saved fingerprint and tried to set the same fingerprint (and others). But now I can't add a new fingerprint, Windows Hello seems to be inert. My fingerprint device doesn't work. When I removed my PIN and retried to set a fingerprint, my fingerprint device works and detects my finger. Then I've added a new PIN to enable Windows Hello. But neither my PIN nor my fingerprint was saved.  Attempts to fix the problem: - I tried to update driver, I have the last one (5.1.324.26). I tried to uninstall it then reboot, nothing happens;- Via administrative templates, try to enable it on Windows Components, nothing happens;- Reset fingerprint settings into BIOS/ Security then F10, nothing happens;- Tried to recover Windows with keeping files, nothing happens. I've made some snapshots of what I'm explaining : Click on Set up fingerprint. Set with PIN already registered. I just have a cancel button and nothing else.Removed PIN before. Fingerprint device worksAdd New PINBut nothing was saved... I'm totally confused. This has become a great annoyance to me.

Whenever I have my keyboard and mouse plugged into my computer (the mouse uses a USB port on the KB (it's a G-15)) I keep getting messages of "USB Device Not Recognized", however, the mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine. It's not really a problem, it's not restricting me, but it is extremely annoying.

Any solution to this problem?

Note: I recently re-installed Windows (literally about an hour ago), it did not do this beforehand.
Note 2: I have tried to restart the computer.

Answer:"USB Device Not Recognized" but the device is working fine.

A search turned up some easy things.

Does this happen coming out of sleep or hibernate?
Does this happen in another USB port
I think you said you rebooted - no change. If you haven't rebooted, give that a go.

Last one: right click on the device in Device Manager and select "Scan for update". Could be the USB, mouse or kb - scan all asscociated devices

That's all I have,

After the newest update on May 21, I get that message when I plug in my phone to my laptop. The phone will charge, but it will not connect to the computer. The phone does not have a problem because when I plug it into my old computer running Vista, it works fine. Since I use my phone as a modem to connect to the internet, I can't get online with that computer in order to download anything. I tried to do a system restore, but that failed. I undid the updates, but still get the same message. I'm afraid the update changed something and I don't know how to fix it. I see numerous threads all over the internet saying this is a common problem. I am not very tech savvy. I have tried several of the things mentioned such as restarting computer and removing battery for hard boot, but nothing has helped. Help!

I've got a Dell laptop here that isn't functioning properly. I can't get this to work for the life of me! I am currently using this laptop with a different hard drive, it's the install on the SSD that doesn't work. I know that the quick fix would be to simply reload windows, but I don't want the quick fix.

Basically, laptop works with Windows 7 install on a hard drive, no issues. On the SSD, where the ONLY applications loaded are Office 2013 and Firefox (and all the latest updates), the internet does not work (I can ping and get a response, so DNS is fine). The problem persists on IE and Firefox. I have no AV software other than MSE, and the problem persists in Safe Mode w/ networking. The hosts file is clean. The internet worked on the computer just fine when I loaded it, I hadn't used the SSD in a while and when I popped it in, the internet wasn't working. I believe something is getting in the way of port 80, but I can't figure out what. I have disabled all startup applications and all nonwindows services. The computer does not have bonjour. I have cleared history/cookies to no avail. I can't find anything suspicious in the running processes. I can't seem to turn off the windows antimalware process to test that, though.

Any ideas?

I decided to run hijack this and found two BHO's. It's funny that on my new install that I used a handful of times, I have adware, but on this install that's been going for years, I have nothing. It looks like this managed to install itself on 12/2... which had to be damn close to the date that I bought the SSD, however, I had internet activity as recent as 12/26. A month ago i bought a brand new 250 GB 2.0 USB external hard drive (octupus link saphire case) for my Dell 8600 inspiron laptop, I've been using it as a media storage (music) and as a back up. I travel frequently and i don't take the drive with me, consequently i have to unplug it and plug it from the laptop frequently, i hadn't had any trouble...until yesterday when I plug it in...and altought there is that the laptop makes when some hardware is plugged in, and altough it appears on the safely remove hardware icon, I cannot see it in windows explorer, and in device manager it appears under the drives but i cannot manage to open the files. I tried the Filerecovery software but it did not work as it does not read the drive as plugged.

I've read a lot on your threads but, my External drive was already partitioned and working perfectly.

Any help is profoundly appreciated

Many thanks

I've been fighting with a laptop repair for a couple days and have got nowhere! My head is being minced and can't think of a way forward now.

So I've discovered three problems with this laptop and think they all might be related?
Windows Update not working with error 0x80070057 - I have searched the internet for help on this and tried suggestions like; starting/stopping wuauserv service, deleting WinUpd cache.
System Restore not working; unable to create restore points or restore (the last point is from November), this gives error 0x81000101 Shadow Copy Timeout. Again searched and tried fixing all suggestions like making sure the SysRestore services are running.
Device Manager is completely blank; also tried suggested repairs like setting correct permissions on Enum folder in registry.
On top of the problem specific fix attempts I've also done the following general fixes:
sfc /scannow - found problems but unable to fix
repaired registry from RegBack
reset all Services to default
ran combofix and malwarebytes
chkdsk /r
removed McAfee
have checked Windows & Sytem32 folder for correct user permissions
I'm sure I've done a few other things but can't recall everything I've tried.

Have also tried Windows Repair but stays at "Checking Compatibilty" for hours.

Generally Windows seems to be fine except for these three issues; system is quick and general useage is without issues.

Any ideas from a fresh look would be helpful... Read more

Have a problem that is driving me crazy.
I have a Acer Aspire 5553G Laptop which has a HDMI output. I used to connect my laptop to my television all the time (A Toshiba Model 37AV505D) and it worked fine.
I then connected it to my friends television (a newer model think 1080p)and it worked fine. When I then came back to my television it does not work. It still recognises the television in the Screen Resolution part but I just get a blue screen. It does know the television is there. It still works fine on my friends television.
So far I have tried a new HDMI lead, wiggling the lead, completely restoring laptop to factory settings, re-installing the ATI Graphics Driver, played with all the different settings but just cannot get it to work.
Would really appreciate any help you can give.

Hi, there. Below is a cut/paste of my Belarc report. Hope that is useful. I just came here from the Techsupportforum Malware section - no problems, so they suggested I come here for some help. If it is helpful, you can see the thread here:

This cranky computer has always been slightly "off". For one thing, it has given a variety of POST beeps over the years - sometimes none, sometimes one, two, three or four. At the moment, it just gives one and has been doing that for a few months.

In the past it has refused to load, or run after loading, some games that others with the same OS (XP Home SP3) seem to have no difficulty with. My recent problem is with the program DVD Next Copy - a program which I have used for several years in several versions. The version I'm using was recently upgraded, so I downloaded it, installed, tried to run and got the dreaded "Windows has encountered an error and needs to close . . ." error. So, I completely uninstalled the program (using Revo), downloaded the previous version which was running fine, installed it, tried to run it, and got the same error. I checked with support for the program and after investigating a few possibilities they decided that my computer is the problem, not the software. I'm inclined to agree with them. So, any suggestions to winkle out the demons from this piece of ancient technology will be very appreciated.

Answer:Previously Working Program Now Doesn't

Post manufacturer, model & rated power output of your Power Supply. Post the voltages as reported in BIOS.

Download & burn a disk with memtest86 and test your memory. I don't like the 256 Mbyte + 1 Gybte. Their default timings are bound to be different. Ditch the 256, it's not doing much good anyways, and see if things improve.

When a bunch of problems happen it's usually system file corruption, bad power, heat, hard drive errors or a hardware problem. First thing to do is start ruling things out so you can focus on what the problem might be.

I'm having a problem with my new build. It has worked fine for a few days after I restored Windows 7 using a system image. Now, all of a sudden, it won't POST. I'm getting a debug code of "34" (CPU post-memory initialization). I get nothing but a black screen; monitor shows "no signal".

I've had several problems with this machine not wanting to boot to Windows prior to this but I've always been able to get to the BIOS, or, the last time, Windows 7 safe mode. I've had to reinstall the OS twice, since the tech forum fixes didn't work. The last event, I restored the system with a system image, as stated previously.

I installed my first game on the machine this morning (BioShock) to the secondary HDD. My OS is on the primary SSD.

The game seemed to work fine. I played for about an hour, then exited and checked my email. No problems. I went to several other sites to pay bills. Still no problems.

Now, several hours later, I go to the machine and see a blank screen. I checked the Debug LED and it showed "AA" (System has transitioned into ACPI mode. Interrupt controller is in APIC mode). I powered off and back on and I get the 34 Debug code.

I've removed the board battery and reinstalled it based on the suggestion from another forum, but no go. I hope some of you folks can guide me to a resolution of this latest glitch. Thanks in advance.

Hi friends,

The other day my desktop's ethernet card (Realtek, built into my Asus z87 mobo) apparently stopped working. After multiple reboots etc. it now continually tells me I have "No network access" on "unidentified network" and no matter what I do I cannot access any network resources. Can't even ping the router.

Other computers and devices can get online, both wirelessly and via the hard line so I'm confident in ruling out my router as the culprit - it's definitely a problem with the desktop.

Antivirus detects no malware. Windows reports that the device is working correctly if I examine the network adapter in Control Panel.

It's not a driver issue either: Nothing in the configuration has changed between the system working and not working. I simply shut it down one night after playing some games, and then in the morning it was no longer working.

How can I troubleshoot this?

Answer:No connectivity on ethernet, card was previously working

I have no idea how, but it started working again magically.

It had been not working for 3 or 4 days, powered off, power bar also off.

I downloaded malwarebytes and was running a full scan when the system froze. When I started it back up the network card was not recognized. I thought maybe it was the Realtek "deep sleep" issue, but un-/re-installing drivers did not help.

I took the system apart after my previous post intending to see if I had room to just put in a discrete gigabit NIC in lieu of my broken onboard. Yup, I have a spare x1 PCIe port but I live in a small crappy town so all the PC stores are closed sundays. I put the system back together and booted it back up intending to play some singleplayer games or something, but then the networking started working just fine.

I have no idea, I didn't change anything but it now works

Hi, I have a program (read & write 9) which has previously worked. I tried using it today and it comes up with a dialog box trying to configure the program. It then comes up with another dialog box stating "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." At the bottom of the box there is a source location box "D:\Users\Doug\Desktop\Packages\Software\Read and Write 9 Gold\installer\Local Install\"
When I close the dialog box it opens another saying "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Read And Write 9. Windows Installer cannot continue."
When I click ok another box comes up saying "fatal error during installation"
If I got directly to the program files C:\Program Files\Texthelp Systems\Read and Write 9
I can run the application file from there and it starts the program with my personal settings.

Why does the desktop and start menu keep trying to configure the program and how can I fix it?

Thanks Doug

Answer:Error 1706 on previously working program

Anyone? Any ideas?

Hello geeks

I had a machine which I had assmbled some six months back which was working fine till now. When I started the machine today it does not display anything...not even the bios messages... The specs are

ECS 848P - A7 motherboard
2.66GHZ Intel P4
1 GB ram
64 MB Video card
2 hard drives

Now when I try to boot up the machine I see that there is just red LED coming up on the case and the green LED does not come up (I think previously it used to come up with a beep sound). I don't hear any beep sounds also. I don't see anything displaying on the motherboard. The power supply seems to be OK and I see a red LED glowing on the motherboard. I need your help in troubleshooting the problem.

Answer:Booting problem on a previously working machine.

first thing that you should do is check to make sure everything is connected correctly and didn't come loose. Also, you need to make sure that all the cards are secured in their slots. If that didn't help, try to clear the cmos to see if that helps. If not, try to take the cpu out and clean the thermal grease and reapply a new one. (I don't know why but sometimes reinsert the cpu will help).

When you said that you didn't see anything booting, my suspicion is that the cpu is dead but it could also be the mobo. Try to connect just the minimal and see if that boots. You coudl also try to replace the psu.

Hi everyone,

Firstly, I know very little about PC's, so please treat me like an idiot, it will be more helpful that way

Yesterday my PC turned off and rebooted itself.

But it wouldn't reboot.

It kept saying it couldn't find something on IDE-0 and wouldn't boot.

I managed to change the BIOS to look for a CD and re-installed windows XP.

Now, because I am so computer illiterate I have 2 hard drives on my PC, labelled C: and F: along with 2 CD/DVD drives, labelled D: and E:

They all work fine, except F: my second hard drive.

I've had this drive working since new, for about the last 8 months and it contains all our family photo's, music, games, documents etc etc, basically stuff I wanted to keep safe incase of having to re-install windows. (I've done this before a couple of times and F: has always been fine afterwards)

But now, the PC reads the F: drive as being there, but when I click it, it says it needs formatting and I will lose everything on there

When I bring up the properties for the drive it says it is full (pie chart is all blue) but it only had about 65% of 120MB on it before it went wrong.

Device manager etc all say the drive is working properly, i've tried physically taking it out of the case and re-installing it, renaming the drive label (with help from this forum!) and nothing works.

I use Windows XP with Service Pack 1.

Am I b*ggered? Do I have to take it to a specialist shop and get them to retrieve all the data or is there ... Read more

Answer:Previously working Hard Drive now won't read and says it needs formatting

Found this website :

Hey guys.

So, I have a desktop computer wired to a router/AP, wich is wired to a modem.
It always worked just fine for all my equipment: desktop, notebooks, mobiles, etc.
Suddenly, it stopped working only for my desktop. Im posting this with my notebook. So my network is working.
It was friday, 2PM, and it was working. Then 3PM when i checked again, not working.
The status is the following:
No connections are available.

So let's eliminate the simple things you would say that i already checked:

- I tried with several cables and several ports, so it's not my router or modem. Also they work with my notebook, so...
- I checked every cable connection from street to desktop, replugged just for being sure.
- Reinstalled drivers, adapters.
- Uninstalled network softwares such as Hamachi
- Uninstalled all things Bonjour related

And it's still not working.

Also tried ipconfig /release and /renew and neither of them works. It says:
"Windows IP Configuration
The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

And yes, im running cmd as admin.

So, any tips?

EDIT: I also did Power Cycling several times, no luck.
EDIT2: And here's my ipconfig /all:

Additional Note:
Performing a net user * /DELETE has no effect on the share that is not working properly. Also when performing a new use the share does not appear in the list.

I keep having a re-occurring issue.

I start by creating a shared folder on a Windows 2000 Server. From my Windows XP Pro laptop I'm able to access the files in the shared folder. At some point either from logging off the network or network changes that occur over night, I lose share. By losing the share I mean that I can access the folder that is shared but it does not show any files in the folder even though there are files. If I turn off the server, I get the same empty folder results. I've tried registering and flushing the DNS several times and reassigning my IP address. I'm at a loss as to why the share will not show any files. If I create a new share on the same server it will work fine until I leave for the day and return the next day. I would like to understand more about how shares are created and handled in Windows and then I might be able to figure out why this problem is occurring.

A bit of background:

This is a computer I built from parts ordered from Newegg. I'm pretty good at assembling PC's, maybe a bit rusty between builds, but it comes back once I get my hands dirty. In any case. Everything works fine for a month except the mobo won't recognize anything plugged into the IDE ports. I tried different drives, different cables, nothing works, okay, fine. I can live with just SATA. After a month, one day upon booting, the machine is slooooooow. Like 10 minutes to get to the windows loading screen, 10 minutes to get past that and tell me something is wrong. A literal 10 minutes each time, where before it was a matter of seconds or a minute maybe. I try another drive with an OS on it, that drive, it just tells me, is completely effed, needs to be formatted, etc. after the long 20 minute wait, just like the first. I pull it out, put it in the other machine, no problem. So I figure maybe the IDE and this issue are connected, and RMA it to Gigabyte.

They send it back...with thermal paste on the CPU pins. So I clean it up as best I can and plug it in. Now here's the thing it did then, and is doing now. The mobo gets power, the video card fan starts spinning, case fans spin, but the CPU fan does not. Nor does the computer make any attempt at booting. I don't get a power on beep or anything when hooking a system speaker up to the mobo. I get no picture, my keyboard lights don't flash, nothing. When I turn the computer off, the C... Read more

I've had my graphics card for months, it worked without a hitch. Then my computer went without use, and stayed off, for 3 months. I turn it on and suddenly, my graphics card is no longer detected. I can't launch the desktop app as it says I need to upgrade my drivers or get a new card. Tried updating my drivers through GeForce Experience, which has worked, and that says it can't detect anything either. I unplugged my PC, and opened it, everything is attached and nothing is cracked or broken. I'm absolutely clueless, I can't update my drivers, I can't detect a card. Does anyone have any idea? any help would be greatly appreciated.

So Geforce Experience says you do not have a nvidia gpu installed? Have you tried re-seating the card (take it out and put it back in sometimes the pins get shifted around)?

I hope this forum can help. I've tried several others. My Win 10 Update function is not working at all. There are over 100 updates saying "Waiting for Download." The progress bar stays at 0%, even when there is nothing else running at all.
I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, and it said "service registration is missing or corrupt." It won't say which service it's talking about.
I ran SPF /scannow and it said no integrity violations.
I ran DISM /scanhealth, /checkhealth, and /restorehealth, and they said "no component store corruption detected" and "restore operation completed successfully."
I did all the steps in "Reset Windows Update Components" and they all completed successfully, but nothing changed except that the list of updates disappeared (they all reappeared as soon as I clicked on 'Updates are available).
A search on "service registration is missing or corrupt" shows that this is a common problem, but I've tried everything suggested, and nothing has helped with the problem.
The only advice that I haven't tried is to re-install Windows 10. I don't want to have to re-install MS Office, Kaspersky, etc.
Can anyone help with this?

Asus MoBo P7P55D LE, I tried to update my drivers using a program that detects new drivers. Unfortunately when it had finished, I did not have any sound. Speakers plug into the rear panel and headphone into the front panel. Been into the device manger and all devices are working correctly. Went to the Asus site to download the via/nvidia drivers but when they downloaded, I used the setup but windows says it cannot find the drivers, also used the Mobo disk and again windows says cannot find drivers, so at a loss. I somehow managed to get the front headphone jack working but has a permanent hiss on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks and Regards

Answer:Unable to get speaker working although device manager says working ok

First off NEVER use one of the sites that scans your system to see if you need driver updates. There too many posts of people having problems after using one of those sites.

You can Rollback the drivers that were installed. Go to the Device Manager, display each of the devices (one at a time) and in the properties for the device. click on Driver Tab and then click Rollback Driver. This should get you back to where you were before you did whatever update.

If I can get the DVD and USB port to work I won't have to reinstall Windows 7. Anyone have any ideas or similar situation?

Sounds like a missing driver. Check to makes sure you have all your drivers and that they are all the most current or updated version.

Hi, My T430 Integrated Camera was working fine. But as of yesterday, when I tried to Gmail Video Chat, the green light no longer turns on. Fn+F6 --> It says "The Device is used by another Application". And the setting is on Private. When I click on Public, it automatically goes back to the Private setting. No other applications are running. Integrated Camera is listed under Device Manager and the check says that the latest driver is installed. Going to the Camera application (I'm on Windows 8), all I see is a black screen, again no green light. Any ideas? I don't think it has to do with the driver. Thanks.

Answer:T430 Camera - Working previously, now green light doesn't turn on

Hi Huikat, I had the same issue.. turns out that it was just a loose connection between the cable and the camera. However, it may be a case that the integrated camera has gone bad. Call Lenovo Support and request a replacement if your laptop is within warranty. Thanks, Joe

Hi everyone,

I have a client that needs to have the file name and location in the footer of every document created in word. I was able to find a macro that works well for automatically updating the 'file name' field in the footer, but for some reason the solution below doesn't work for updating the field when the user saves the document when it's created from the blank ( / normal.dotm) template. I've tried it on both 03 and 08 with no luck.

The solution below works great within the specific document, but not when applied to the hidden ""/"normal.dotm" template:

I was closing my cd tray and the headphone wire got caught and hung it up. I pulled the cord to the side and the tray closed by itself. I put in a cd that I had burned from my old computer with music, pictures and docs. It didn't play and checking the device manager it says that " Windows cannot initalize the device driver for this hardware. Code 37 "

So, not seeing how a cord could cause driver issues, I'm guessing I had a bug on the cd. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the cd rom but that didn't work.

Last night I plugged into my computer my USB storage device to access some files and up came:

The computer had been on standby for an hour so I reckon this could be the problem but I tried all the remedies I could find: unplugged, switched off, leave for 5 minutes, reboot, etc. It did not work.

I've tried almost everything. So I went to bed and 8 hours later rebooted and plugged in my USB storage device and lo ah behold! "USB NOT RECOGNIZED"

So I phoned my dad and he said that I had to reinstall the chipset drivers and update the BIOS.

What should I do?

Hi Guys is there any way to install windows from previously downloaded updates available in "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" i.e.; without re-downloading the updates just need to copy to another system and install. But these are not
.msu or .exe files.

Answer:How to update windows by using previously downloaded update ?

You can't reuse what has already automatically downloaded and installed. You can however save updates and manually install if you so desire.
Security updates are available on ISO-9660 CD image files from the Microsoft Download Center
You  can also download individual updates from the Catalog and save to be installed later.
Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what you want, Click the ?Go To Download Basket? link. Type in or browse to the location where you want the updates saved to and then Click the ?Download Now? button.
Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD.

Hi All

I am desperately trying to save some very old audio cassettes by transferring them to my computer before it is too late.

I am running Windows 8 on a Lenovo G500.I am using a Behringer UFO202 digital audio interface into which I can connect my analog cassette deck and run directly into the laptop.

The Behringer device shows up in Device Manager and Devices & Printers and is stated to be 'working properly'
However, Every time I click on the device in Control Panel>Sound>Recording I always get a 'Windows Shell Common DLL has stopped working' error message when I try to set the unit up to record.

I am not overly computer savvy but I think this message has something to do with the registry or maybe it is to do with the drivers??

Whatever the case, I am loathe to start messing around in case I make matters worse so I am posting here in the hope that some kind soul will help me out before I tear all my hair out and potentially lose some precious recordings that I am desperate to save.

Just for the record, I would ideally like to record the Behringer unit directly into Sony Soundfourge 9 and salvage/restore accordingly.

Thank you in advance for your time.

After Anniversary upgrade I couldn't manage to have an USB external device to be recognized (the Device management saw it as RAW) . But, after last nights new "Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3176936)" and "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3176934)" the USB driver problem was SOLVED at last!! Microsoft had a lot of complaints about non-recognition of external USB drives and fixed it..Next time it would be wise to check everything before presenting an upgrade to Windows 10..

I'm ready to flip my lid. So for a bit of context, I play a game called osu! and recently a top player has released a standalone engine based off the game with a lot of different customization options. I was really hyped to try it when I saw it, but when I downloaded the file, I get the error message;
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
My computer promptly deletes the file I had just tried to open. This is where I'm going to dump a lot of information.
First off, here's a screenshot of the error message and the file location + the other folder content.
As you can see, the file that I was trying to open (McEngine.exe) is no longer there, because it was deleted. ( A screenshot of the folder before the file is opened)
This is a link to the github page for the program I've downloaded, followed by a link to the game osu! that it was based on.
So, frustrated, I naturally looked into the issue. Here's what I've tried.
- Running normally
- Running as administrator
- Running in compatibility mode
- Redownloading the file
- Changing the location of the file
- Changing the permissions of the folder (It doesn't let me give special permissions. See here:

Win 7 64 Windows Update not working (post migration), nor is Windows Update Readiness tool installing. I have renamed catroot and stopped services, nothing working. I just migrated HD to a hybrid solid state (Seagate Momentus). I had this problem both with Acronis 2009 and Acronis 2013, and Windows Backup would not create a recoverable partition (always said file not available about 30% through the recovery). I have installed the Intel IDE ATA drivers, and scoured the help topics. I have tried everything. I could really use some help.

The error I receive when attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool is:

"Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247"

The Microsoft FixIt and Control Panel FixIt says it has fixed the problem, but Update does not work. Nothing is working, but the OS is healthy, the disk is healthy. The sfc/scannow doesn't reveal any corrupted components.

I followed all of these instructions before attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool:

Windows Update Service and Windows Module Installer Service are the two basic services responsible for all your updates to install correctly.

If Windows Updates are failing, then my first step would be to check if these two services are running.
Windows Update Service enables the detection, download, and installation of updates for Windows and other programs. If this service is disabled, users of this computer will not be able to use Windows Update or its automatic upda... Read more

Hi, I use my HD TV as a monitor. I do this by connecting an HDMI cable to my television. I've done this without a problem for almost 6 months. Yesterday, My Mom had to bring my laptop to school and she left the hdmi cable plugged into my laptop. I didn't think it would be a problem but when I got home the HDMI cable no longer registers as connected to my laptop. My television knows the cable is plugged in but not to what so I get no picture. My laptop makes no indication whatsoever that I'm plugging or unplugging my cable.

Anything I can do about this? I'm not sure if there's a way I can like reinstall the actual port or anything. Never had a problem like this before.

Things I've Tried vvv
Not too much, I restarted, and experimented with other HDMI cables and other ports on my tv. Only have one HDMI port on my laptop.

Thanks :D

Answer:HDMI Cable Not Being Recognized, Previously Worked Fine

Maybe do a system restore to an earlier date when the
hdmi cable was working. Maybe some drivers or software got installed after
which is now causing this problem.

Hey guys I figured i;d ask here since I habe had good luck in the past from here. A few days ago I lost sound on my PC and I checked all of the spots and all of my audio hardware is installed and working correctly but I still have "No Audio Device in sounds and multimedia. I thought maybe the sound card was gone so i removed it and ran with the on board which detected and installed drivers and said was working but still same error with No Audio Device. I am confused as I have eliminated Hardware from the issue and am convinced its a Windows issue, I will try to update the Chipset drivers and such but I wanted to know if any of you had run into the same issue and had a fix for it I wanna continue making my Custom Guitar Hero Songs lol. I am looking for support regarding my S21e-20 - after upgrading to Windows 10, I cannot use my MicroSD reader... I've tried installing most of the drivers available on the support pages ( but it does not solve the problem. The device manager keeps showsing missing drivers for a "PCI Device" - since I did not discover any of the other devices to misbehave, I assume that the missing drivers are exactly the drivers for the MicroSD slot. Could you, please, provide me a link to the driver which is responsible for the proper functioning of the MicroSD card slot. Just for your information: the unrecognized device in the Device Manager has the following "Physical Device Object Name": \Device\NTPNP_PCI0010 and the "Device Instant Path" is the following: PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_5229&SUBSYS_380517AA&REV_01\4&9763F65&0&00E1 .Am I right in assuming that it's the MicroSD slot? Thank you in advance for your help.

About 2 weeks ago my Windows Mobile Device Center add/remove programs options stopped working. I have no idea why. When I click on the option a new window briefly appears and then closes again.

My laptop (a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows Vista Home Premium edition with SP2) and Windows Mobile device (an HP iPaq 214 with WM6.0) are syncing information as far as I can tell. I can manually copy documents and files between the two devices. However I cannot install any software.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Mobile Device Center and performed a hard reset on the iPaq but still nothing.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Today I ran into some trouble with my audio and I have absolutely no idea how this happened at all. I have been trying to fix it all day but nothing so far has worked.

So here's the problem, for some reason, Windows Media Player and iTunes are unable to play mp3 files. I can play mp4 movies in Windows Media Player but then I have no sound. Basically, iTunes and WMP gave me the same error when I tried to play any mp3 files.

WMP gives me a pop-up window that says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

iTunes gives me a message on launch that says there's something wrong with my audio configuration. I tried to enable an audio device in WMP but the list is empty, it doesn't find any audio devices at all, here's what it looks like:

Here are the things I have tried so far but didn't work.
-Uninstall my audio drivers and reinstalled
-Install Dell's IDT Audio drivers
-Updated my audio drivers to the latest versions

I wanted to use System Recovery to set my laptop back to before it happened but I don't have any restore points unfortunately.

If anyone could help me with this that would be great.

hey manugautam000,welcome to the forums, disable to camera from device manager and remove the current driver installed to it.reboot your unit, re-enable the camera. windows should then install its own generic drivers.test your camera with the generic drivers.later on, head to , download the latest camera driver for your unit. set your unit to diagnostic mode via msconfig and then install.

Hello, For no reason that I know of, the bluetooth facility on my little S10e has stopped working. I noticed a couple of times when shutting down I got a "BTstackserver" not responding message. I use the laptop to regularly download from a bluetooth enabled device. today, when I go to connect, I am told 'bluetooth device not found'.'Verify that your bluetooth device is properly connected and turned on'. The hardware manual shows the LED config and this is correct, If I press 'Fn' and 'F5' keys, I get the menu to turn on and off both the wireless and Bluetooth. I can enable and disable both wireless and Bluetooth with this menu option BUT when I enable bluetooth, I get the message 'One of the USB devices attached to the system has malfunctioned or is not recognised'. I have removed the installed Bluetooth software and re-installed using both bluetooth install files published on my S10e drivers list on lenovo. Neither one works. I know that you need to install from C:\DRIVERS dir once the installer has finished unpacking. I have tried various other obvious things but with no success. I also enabled 'Bluetooth co-operation' in the wireless lan settings. All I can do now is get at the Bluetooth device under the keyboard cover and have a look at that? Anyone got any suggestions before I get the screwdriver out? (The device is out of warranty).

Have you tried uninstalling it through the device manager, and reinstalling? If not, try this:
Go into your Device Manager, and find your drive. Right click on it, and choose "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware, and install new a driver for you.
Good luck!

After upgrading my 64bit G580 Win8 to Win 8.1, I ran new drivers from Windows Update and Lenovo G580 Driver Matrix for Win 8.1. No Intel HD 4000 Win 8.1 driver. Intel device has bang in Device manager. Device not working. Default MS Video device driver. No bells and whistles. I installed the Win 8.1 audio drivers and software for my audio device. After Win 8.1, restart has Dolby Audio V2 device discovered wizard. But all driver update paths fail there, even if I point to Have Driver and go to drivers folder. I unistalled this specific device V2 software at Programs control panel and it never discovered the Dolby device again. So, no bangs on that, but uninstalling the software seems like a bad workaround. Was V2 supposed to unistall with the driver update. Need to fix installer, Lenovo?   Going through Device Mgr, Intel HD 4000 device has had a bang since upgrade to 8.1. Device not working.Automatic, browse to driver say best driver installed- MS generic Video device. Update driver- Have Disk will install Win8 driver, asks to reboot and band is still in Device Mgr. Driver says it is the Intel device, but the message on the driver is Device not Working. No bells and whistles. So, these two devices need new drivers/install packages. Posted similar whining msg on TechNet. I really need my Video to work correctly so my XP VM is not some pop-up sized window, et al. Hi Rvgammill,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop display and Audio V2 is not working as expected and even after installing the exact driver for the computer generic driver is displayed in the Device Manager, I suggest you to install the drivers directly from Intel and NVIDIA, below are the link to automatically scan the computer and install the relevant driver from Intel and NVIDIA:

Intel display driver auto detect
NVIDIA graphics driver auto detect

Then for the audio issue in the computer, please install the driver in administrator mode and check the issue. Below is the link to download the exact driver for Windows 8.1 and when installing the driver right click on the downloaded file and select ?Run as administrator? option:

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://

Any other ideas?

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.
Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. Unfortunately, when Windows 7 boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case, Windows detects the front USB ports as "Unknown Device" within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed. I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard, deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers, and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB 2.0/1.1 ports via the adapter cable.  I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.
I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via m... Read more

Hi there, I have a G580 notebook with Windows 8.1 64bit installed. I have recently noticed that the SD Card Reader is not working or appearing in Device Manager. When I insert a card into the reader nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card reader driver downloaded from Lenovo support and also from Realtek but nothing changes. I have scanned for new hardware and also ticked "Show hidden devices" in Device Manager and still nothing appears. I have another G580 notebook with Windows 10 installed and the card reader works fine but I do not want to update this notebook to Windows 10.

Do you have any "unknown devices" listed or showing in device manager?  If you do, right click and choose properties then look at Hardware ID and google it.
You can try resetting the BIOS by removing the battery and AC adapter then holding down the power button for 30 seconds.  Re-install the battery and AC adapter then power the system on to see if your device shows up.

Hi all, I have a brand new T440p (type 20AN I believe) with a clean Win7 Pro SP1 install and all Windows Updates. Very soon after starting to use it, the wireless started acting strange, it would disable itself out of nowhere. In Device Manager, it shows with a yellow exclamation (it is called 2x2 11b/g/n Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter), and if I go into details, under General -> Device Status, it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. As you can see in the screenshot , AC power doesn't show and the battery indicator that does show says over 10 hours left although the icon for the battery now shows empty.

Fortunately though if AC power is plugged in , even if it doesn't show it does keep the laptop from turning itself off .

If i take out the battery though, AC power will not turn the laptop on , i have to have battery installed.

My comp is approx. 3 years old and worked well until sometime last year. The most recent thing that happened is that the screen stays black during boot up. For quite awhile, if you would just keep restarting the computer, it would eventually connect with the monitor and then you could see the desktop and use the computer. Whether it booted up or not was clear from how long the shut-down required. If the computer shut down immediately, it probably didn't complete boot-up, usually because of damage to the OS which then had to be fixed. If it did boot up, the comp didn't shut down immediately when you push the button.

The bios has continued to work throughout. The graphics card, monitors and cables were all tried on another computer. I switched out the PSU and that didn't make any difference.

Questions: Is it probable that it's a problem in the MB somewhere? And if so, how would I go about finding a MB that would still be compatible with my existing chip?

The board is an Infinity NF UltraII-M2 and the chip is AMD Athlon 64 2X.

Answer:Monitor working but not recognized by MB

I got a new MB and tried to take the chip out of the old MB, but discovered that the chip is glued to the heat sink. Is that normal?

Hi again everyone. I just installed my new Samsung 850 EVO ssd and did a system image recovery. The computer is working just like it always did, but is NOT showing the new ssd when I click on Computer.   However, when I go into Disk Management this is what I see:  The disk is online but needs to be properly allocated onto C: drive. Can anyone tell me how to get this mess straightened out? Thanks once again to anyone who can help.

Answer:New ssd is installed and working but not recognized

Hi, Nothing wrong with that. You've got C: and another partition (spare) which is unallocated. You can use this spare partition as a second drive to store data or add it to C: The following instructions may help: Regards.
