Preferred Solution: Why aren't my capacitive buttons not working after upgrade to Windows 10 tech preview on Lumia720?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I get this problem on my 920 and rebooting the phone fixes it for me. Not sure if I can isolate what actually causes it.

I am on Windows phone 8.1 on a Nokia Lumia 720. My capacitive buttons have stopped responding. As a result, i am unable to go back to the start screen unless i restart the phone. Is there a workaround?
Is there an app to do this-
1) Create a constant notification in the notification centre tapping which will allow me to go to the start screen?
2) Create a shortcut in the notification centre to access certain apps?

Hello,I've got this issue since about a week ago on my Yoga 2 Pro.Button 6 isn't working at all (I had to use virtual keyboard to type it), and button Y isn't working when pushed together with Shift. When Windows' starting, a number of 6s appear in password field. I'm able to delete them and type my password, but it's very strange.I already updated BIOS, but it didn't help. What can be the reason and how can it be solved?  As I can see, some people had the same issue and there was no solution. However, probably the reason is as simple as some dust under the buttons? Is it possible to unmount problem buttons and just clean under them? How can it be done without any risk to break the buttons? Thank you.

Hey,

I've been trying to do some online work (similar to MTurk but a little different), and my problem is, the submit button doesn't work in IE for me. When I try to click on it, nothing happens. I was receiving a small error message on the left side of the browser on the bottom, but that's gone away now. Just to clarify, this ISN'T my own website I'm having trouble with. I have gone on the message board of the job to see if anyone else is experiencing the same problem, but it seems to be working fine for everyone else. I have attempted to try it out on other computers in my house, but I get the same problem. I am using IE9, on Windows 7. Using Windows XP Pro with SP3. TSG SysInfo output below.

Yesterday, I noticed I noticed that when I clicked left or right mouse buttons on a particular icon in my task bar (or is it the system tray), nothing happened; no menu, no app. No problem with tool bar, nor desktop shortcuts. I didn't worry about it as I could access that app another way, and just thought the system needed to be rebooted. When I was done working on what I had been doing, I rebooted...to a totally blank (except my old desktop image); no tool bar, no start button, no desktop icons...nothing.

I decided to try to see what Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) might tell me. There were the usual 3 applications running, and the typical longer list of processes. Since one of the apps already running was Firefox, I right clicked it, and selected "maximize", did some poking around, and found the best thing at that point would be to do a system recovery. I did to a set point I made the night before, and everything on my desktop looked normal again. But still, the task bar icons were and remain dead.

I had been working on removing old, broken, or otherwise useless registry keys using PC Health Advisor, and did make a back up of the registry before starting the software; I had suspected a virus or malware (used Malwarebites Anti Malware to screen for these, not that I could tell you the difference between malware and a trojan anyway), and wanted to make sure it hadn't infected my registry. after battery replacement

Answer:Why aren't my volume buttons working on my Motorola 1020?

Who replaced the battery?
If the service center replaced it, take it back to them immediately and report the issue.
If you (or anyone else other than the authorized service center), you could try checking if some dirt is getting in the way of the contacts of the button controls. If that doesn't work, you will still need to take the phone to a service center to have it checked and repaired.
I'm not sure what a "Motorola 1020" is, though.

i have a nokia 635 ,about a year old ,i don't use it much ,and am not great with them ! it was fine until a couple of days ago ,when the volume down and power buttons would not work ,so took the battery out ,but then not only did the two buttons not work ,but the volume up button does not work . when i plug in a power source such as a portable charger ,or into the pc ,it then reactivates the screen for a few minutes ,to allow me to do what i want ,then it locked again .temporarily ,i've disabled the lock screen ,so i'm able to use it ,but that will be no use long term ,as it is open to abuse if i lose it ,and i could get round the volume problem ,for the music ,by getting headphones with a built in volume control ,phew !

Answer:Why aren't my lock screen and volume buttons working?

The volume problem might be due to hardware, so you should bring it to a store to have it checked. Since the hardware is faulty that could be a reason for the lockscreen acting up.. However you can try a factory reset (settings > about > reset).
Keep in mind this will wipe the phone, so backup everything first

I recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7

When i had XP i could press "Fn + F3" to lower my sound volume, "Fn + F4" to raise my sound volume and "Fn + F10" to completely mute my computer.
So, all the sound related buttons.

When i formatted my computer and got Windows 7 on it. These buttons dont work anymore.
I can still press "Fn + F6" to lower the screen light, and "Fn + F7" to raise it.

Can anyone help me?
Im guessing its related to a driver or something..

Answer:[SOLVED] Fn + F# sound related buttons aren't working anymore

I have exactly the same problem.. I use Packard-Bell MX65 and can't use almost all the the hot keys when i set up Windows 7 Ultimate x64..

And I can use brightness down and up with fn+f6 and fn+f7 like you.. But no blue screen appears while i'm doing that like I was doing it in Xp.. Fn+F11 also works that turns off the screen.

I thought it's related to the driver ATK0100 ACPI Utility and set up a lot of that driver.. But still it doesn't work.. I hope someone can help us Kasp.

Hi all,
I am very happy with my new Lumia 830, but i have found that a couple things are not working.
the one that bothers me the most is that i cannot get the speech to work. Normally when u hold the "search" key it will bring up a voice commands function (not cortana) seeing that i reside in Belgium Cortana is not yet available to me, so i used the regular voice commands on my old Lumia 820 + Dev.Prev.
This has stopped working after updating to the Preview :( Only the short press that lets u type work's not the long press for voice commands
Any suggestions?
Thx

Just wondering.. Why not simply set the phone to US (Region+Language) and use Cortana?

I love my Lumia 520, but it's a frustrating phone to use at the moment. Sometimes when I want to go back to a previous screen, the BACK/HOME/SEARCH buttons go dead, and sometimes it's like the calibration of the screen is out. In using the keyboard for example I will press "A" and the phone will type "U" instead.
I noticed however, that they work perfectly fine when I remove the cover and use the phone. Am I the only one experiencing this, and is there a fix?

Answer:capacitive buttons on lumia 520 don't always work

Maybe the digitalizer (The part of the screen that register the touch) connector is faulty or is not making a proper contact with the phone board. Have you try using another cover? Maybe your current cover is making too much pressure and the digitalizer don't work properly.
If you have some very basic skills in disassembly stuff, you can clean the digitalizer connector with alcohol and hope that solves the problem. You can find many tutorials about L520 disassembly.
Another possibility is that your L520 digitalizer is just faulty and needs replacement, good news is that part should pretty cheap and there is a lot of tutorials en YouTube about how to replace the L520 digitalizer. Good luck.

Answer:B540p buttons & remote not working after Windows 8.1 upgrade

I have resolved the problem associated with the TV remote control. If you are having the same problem, please follow the instruction below.Go to the lenovo drivers and downloads web page and download the (ITE CIR - TV remote control) driver for the version of the original windows that came with your PC. Run the file after download, at the end of the installation you will get an error message, do not worry. Go to device manager and right click "unknown device" icon with yellow label and select update driver software. Choose to browse the computer for diver (the second option). Click the browse button and navigate to C:\drivers\ITE CIR\INFDrv\select Bit or 64 bit depending on your operating system. Click next and the driver will install successfully. After the installation close all open windows and go back to your C:\ drive. Navigate to C:\drivers\ITE CIR\INFDrv\1. Double click the LenovoTV - mce.reg file and install it. Click the YES button for all the prompts.2. Do the same for the MSFT.regRestart your computer after completing the process and your remote control is good to go. Mine is working OK after I discover the steps I listed above. If anyone is stuck using the instruction, let me know.Cheers.

You can't run windows tech preview beyond Oct 1, 2015. But, if you have a working windows 7 and a valid license for it, you can upgrade free for life to Windows 10. In order to do that, you MUST have a valid Windows 7 running at the time of the free upgrade. There are many articles on this forum discussing free upgrades from MS, just search for them. In the meantime, you can continue to run Windows 10 and get new builds and updates.

Do not totally throw away your Windows 7. You will need to have it installed. You can run dual boot, or in a VM for now, or re-install Windows 7 later to get the Windows 10 upgrade free.

Look at all the info in this forum and on Microsoft sites.

Hope this helps clear up up a bit.

Well I just wanted to see what would happen if I installed Start8 on Windows 10, and it is great. I have my old windows 7 menu back and can switch back and forth to Start screen easily. With Brinks little trick about no logging to switch, I can even switch between the new Windows desktop menu, start screen and both keep my old windows 7 menu is still intact.

There are a few drawbacks, no transparency on menus, nor can you move items around in the programs part of the menu (alphabetical), hey but no biggie, I am sure with they will resolve that....gee I like this. Thank god for Start8.

Before going through the detailed comprehension, I would like to highlight that I am not a computer engineer or some tech expert. I am just a normal PC user, gamer to be precise but Windows 10's tech-preview is driving me crazy and I want to try it out on my laptop. So my laptop is:
HP DV6 6168tx
Core i7 2670QM @2.2Ghz
8GB RAM
2GB dedicated Radeon HD 6770M GPU
1000GB HDD
My question is:
I am wiling to sacrifice everything for Windows 10. Should I install it? Is my laptop compatible for the preview?
The things I want to run are MS-Office, Firefox, Steam(CS:S). Am I able to run those programs in tech-preview? What about the drivers? Will they be available?
I can always downgrade to 8.1 later as I will be installing it over my primary machine.
Thank you,

Hi, can you help me with my stupid problem? I have 2 questions: 1) Is there a way to enable trackpoint to work with the capacitive layer? I.e. to be able to use it without physically pushing the pad down. Now, as soon as I touch the trackponit, it disables light clicks (touches) of the touchpad, I guess to prevent unintended palm clicks 2) Is there anything I can do to make the buttons work again? (See the story below.) I have cleaned it all even inside, but there were almost no stains at all anyway, none on chips or cables. And it partially worked just this morning.I guess I could soak it in water, then ethanol, and finally dig into rice grains for a week or two as a last resort...but I hope for a more electronics-friendly solution. Story:I spilled my coffee into the keyboard and touchpad, and even though almost no water got onto the motherboard (a few drops), I cut off the power supply in less than 10 seconds, and I cleaned it all thoroughly (even managed to get inside the touchpad itself and assemble it all back...what a pain), it works weird. At first, it registered about 1/10 or 1/20 of physical button presses (depressions of the pad). So technically it somewhat worked. The capacitive (touch) layer worked fine including multitouch. Then I tried to just click on it repeatedly for about 100 times rapidly, and it started to miraculously work 100% fine...for about 30 minutes, then it returned to the 1/20 state again. But as soon as it started to work fine,... Read more

I am having trouble getting Windows 10 TP to install on my HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop. I have used this laptop to beta test Vista, Windows 7 and 8.0, as well as Office 2007 and 2010 and other software.

I Did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 only to make sure I had a clean machine. I first tried installing the Win 10 TP via the Update download, but, after nearly and hour I got the error that "Something happened and Windows cannot install", then I go back to my normal desktop. So I downloaded the 32 and 64 bit images and burned them each to a separate DVD using Nero, ImgBurn and the Windows 7 DVD burn software. I tried each DVD and all I got when I booted up after some length of time is the Blue Windows icon. It would go no further even after waiting two hours and I had to power off. I tried two different types of DVD media to make sure I had a good media and tried a moderate burn speed to see if that would make a difference. But, I got the same negative results. It will not install. I have used these same burn software many times before and have never had any failures.

While I am not a super computer expert, I am not a novice. I'm trying to install the Windows 10 Tech Preview but after all the files are copied and installed. It reboots like a normal install... but after it reboots it stays stuck in a black screen! I tried a bunch of other old builds but seems to do the same thing... i even have spare hard drives but tried it on all of them even wiping them clean before installing. :banghead

Answer:Windows 10 Tech Preview black screen!

If you are using a DVD image, it could be the DVD or even the marker should you have written on the label side. I always write below the inner track with a fine tip marker when labeling discs.

If you are installing via a flash drive, you could try the DVD.

I am installing the Windows 10 Technical Preview on my primary PC. Am I making a mistake by doing this?

Answer:Installing Windows 10 Tech Preview on Primary PC

Depends on why you are doing it? It's not a finished OS so there are and will continue to be problems, but as a way to test it and report any problems you find it's the best way. If you have Windows 8.1 then 10 will not be a big surprise to you, a little different but not a lot. I run it on my Dell laptop and it works very well, not BSODs or significant failures.

I heard rumors of it being supported, so I installed the app, and sure enough a fast build appeared and tried to install on my phone, but the update keeps failing im guessing due to a lack of sys free space. I read that you can free that up by resetting your phone, however, the 8x isnt listed as one the phones supported by the preview and i assume not supported by the recovery tool. This brings me back to the question, does anyone have it installed? If so, how does it run?

Answer:Has anyone with a HTC 8x installed the Windows 10 Mobile Tech Preview?

It has not been installed on the 8x as of now. It is not available.

Okay, this is gonna be a doozy of a topic, so let's say what happened.

I got a Venue 11 Pro in the mail yesterday. Just the tablet. Don't have the keyboard dock yet. The model with 8 Gigs of RAM and an i5 processor if that helps.

Windows 8.1, so I installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview and everything looked good.

So I installed Google Chrome and when I pressed "Open in Windows 8 Mode" It got glitched out. Wouldn't load properly. Was weird. So then I restarted my PC.

After restarting the PC, it still wouldn't work. And the start menu wouldn't load. Like I'd tap the start button, hit the tablet's start button. Nothing. I could right click it and use those options, but the start menu wouldn't come up.

So I tried to do a PC Refresh and this is where things get crappy. It started the refresh and said it was 8% done.

Went to bed and woke up about 5 or 6 hours later and it was still at 8%. Waiting a few more hours. Still at 8%. Then, I did the dumb move of manually powering off the PC since it seemed to be frozen on the refresh after nearly 9 hours at the same percentage.

After that happened, it would only boot to recovery options. So, I tried to do the recovery that wouldn't affect your files. Had an error that it couldn't complete. So I tried to "completely reinstall Windows" option. And it resulted in this:

"Your PC Needs to be repaired. Error Code: 0xc0000034" It did not have a BCD section on... Read more

Hi All,

Just a quick post to say that I've successfully run the Win 8.1 to Win 10 Windows Update process on my old Sony VAIO SR290 notebook. It probably took 30-45 minutes and so far everything seems to be working. WiFi, Fn keys, fingerprint reader, Bluetooth mouse, etc., are working It found and joined the local Homegroup as well.

My Office 2013 suite appears to be working too.

Printer setup for my Canon MX920 multi-function was a bit hit and miss, but seems to be working now.

All in all, it "feels" as snappy as Win 8.1. Now to see if I can make it crash...

I just got the following popup in Windows 10!

I clicked on "Learn More" and didn't see anything that would make me think Windows 10 TP would be upgraded to Windows 10 GA; mostly I just saw the Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 requirement to qualify for the upgrade.

BTW, here's what's at the very end of the Learn More window(s).

Everyone has a mapped network share to\\server\share and even right now 100% of everyone can access it with no problems. i upgraded this PC to windows 10 tech preview and now insider preview. Now i had no problems accessing the share form this PC until now. Now, it is asking me to authenticate, asking me for a username and password. i have checked with all members of staff and no one is reporting not being able t access the server and 4 people,, 3 windows 7 and 1 windows 8 actually responded to say all is good.to me there is something wrong with my PC and it is some kind of update that is now causing the issue. Can someone help me get access back to the server please? There is no username or password set. We cannot set a username and password it isn't fair to everyone else. Only my PC is affected. On a similar note, around a month ago, i lost access to the file share on the printer. I put my HP laptop on sleep. Then I woke up and tried to turn it on. It turned on but was on a black screen. Normally black screen is for up to 5 seconds before something shows on screen but this time it was more than 5 mins and nothing so I rebooted it. The computer said updating because I had a pending restart. It updated then rebooted and said fixing disk errors (don't know why) then after it finished, it rebooted again and said preparing automatic repair. 5 seconds later it crashed with a bsod but was to fast to find out what the error was. I found out it was driver irql not less or equal something like that. It keeps looping auto repair 5 seconds later bsod. I tried f8 and startup settings but it keeps coming up with a screen saying recovery your pc needs to be repaired with error 0x000000f.

What should I do? I can't boot anything up or go into start up settings if I needed to get to safe mode or other things. No CD driver neither. I downloaded Windows 10 and copied its files to a flash drive then realized it was Portuguese copy BUT even though I don't know what to do with the flash drive booting from efi file or something like that. Help please.

Just upgraded to Win 10 this morning, everything was smooth except for one thing: my Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse stopped working. Looks like there's an error with the Broadcom Bluetooth USB driver, which is already the latest and greatest according to Windows, which obviously it ain't. Does anyone know where to get working drivers? Surprisingly there's nothing about Windows 10 on Broadcom's site??

Answer:Why aren't my Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse working after the upgrade?

Guess I'll answer my own question. Turns out I don't need the Broadcom Bluetooth driver, it's bad. After I deleted it in device manager my keyboard and mouse works. The problem however was Windows Update will try to reinstall it at a later time, and my keyboard and mouse stops working again. So I had to hide that driver update, and I found out in Windows 10 you have to download a troubleshooting tool to do that from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

So, I was thinking about installing Windows 10 Technical Preview on my computer. But, now I have backed out due to concerns of it not being finished. My problem is that the Windows Updates icon in the Notifications Center keeps saying Windows 10 Technical Preview is ready. I have already hidden the 10 Tech Preview Update. How do I get it to stop saying this?

Answer:Notification Center: Updates Icon Keeps Saying Windows 10 Tech Preview

You must have intended to try Win10 and record of that attempt has been saved somewhere on your computer.
Press Windows key plus R then type msconfig in the Run box, under the Startup tab Uncheck anything relating to Windows 10 TP. If you do Uncheck something you'll be prompted to reboot. In some cases a brute force procedure is needed and usually required editing the Registry, not a place for the inexperienced to play as one misstep will cause Windows to not work.

The built-in 64GB storage should be enough if your intention is to replace the existing OS which I will not encourage you to do . Just wait for the final release and do an upgrade.
I also have T100TA. But I am leaving it alone. It's just me bedtime PC.

Hi,
I installed the technical preview on my Surface Pro (gen 1), It's great and all. Gets smoother with each update, however, I'd like to revert back to 8.1 pro so I can reserve my copy of Windows 10.
I don't exactly know if the tech preview will auto-update to the full OS when Win10 releases July29 and I've tried to search for an answer to that question and the answers I find refer to Microsoft releasing "ISOs" when the full OS comes out and I don't know how to do those things so that's why I want to revert back and reserve.
This is my first time trying out OS preview builds. I made a USB recovery drive before I installed it though.
I tried using it to refresh my SurfacePro back to windows 8.1 using my USB recovery drive, but the only option I get when it comes to choosing a target operating system to refresh is just windows 10.
Any help with this?
Thanks

Answer:Why doesn't Windows Phone Emulator run on Windows 10 Tech Preview?

Windows 10 is far to be a complete OS, so you may find lots of bugs and incomplete software support. Stick to W8.1 for your WP projects in Visual.
It's not recommended to install W10 as the main OS since it's only a preview. Better put it in a different partition.

Hello, Due to some weird update issues, I had to run a fresh re-install of Windows 10 on my Lenovo Yoga 11e 20D9.  I have run the Lenovo system update, and manually downloaded every driver I can find for this machine on the Lenovo support site, but I still can't get some of the buttons on the laptop to work properly. Basically, the volume buttons (both on the FN row and on the side of the computer) all just mute/unmute, but will not adjust volume level.  The brightness controls do work, but the rest of the FN controls don't.  The function keys work fine. Does anyone have any experience with this?  If there is a specific driver that will work, please link me directly to the file. Thanks

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about this?  I would like to try to find the correct drivers for this keyboard, but the ones on the site did not seem to fix my issue.  It's possible I did something wrong though.  Any suggestions or links to threads or driver files? Thanks

So recently, I've installed Windows 10 on a separate partition on my 500 GB hard disk that's about 40 GB, and it works perfectly. Except that I can't boot back into Windows 7.
All of my files are still accessible and working, I just can't actually boot into the OS. When I attempt to through the Windows 10 boot screen, first it reboots, then it goes to a black screen with 8 short lines of bright blue pixels on the top left. After a couple of moments, multi-colored pixels start appearing and changing all across the top couple of lines of pixels. This happens in the course of about a minute or so. I usually give up and turn it off cause I notice there is obviously something wrong.
Is there anything I could do to fix this? I've looked everywhere to see if anyone had this problem, but I couldn't seem to find anything.

Answer:Cannot boot into Windows 7 after installing Windows 10 Tech Preview

I would give it a few more minutes and see what happens.

Like in 8.1, I could select individual updates and I could update only selected ones. Also I would just like to check for updates and not install/download them instantly, I have a capped net connection and knowing it would just keep on downloading the updates.

Answer:Why windows updates are forced in windows 10 tech preview?

Please be reminded that windows 10 is a technical preview and not an "official" released OS version like windows 8.1.

Thanks in advance!

I have an odd situation where I can't join ANY wifi networks. Or perhaps more accurate, I can join them but have the error of No Internet Access

Answer:microsoft lumia 535 running Windows 10 Mobile Tech Preview OS version 10.0.10586.11

I have the same issue, that is similar one. There are certain wifi networks that i use (my cousin's, and the one in our school) where i get that 'No internet Access' but i can still surf the web. This is not happening always, i'm not getting that with my home's wifi network. This doesn't bug me at all, that is as long as i can use those networks, and i believe MS will fix this when the offical WM10 release comes out. I assume you are on the Preview?

Lumia Icon. Not dropped. Starting to overheat, and suddenly the buttons just refuse to respond. Help!

Answer:Why aren't my Lumia buttons responding?

Reboot is your first option, also if you have it on a charger while having this issue, remove the charger, Icon heats rather quickly due to the thin design and the fast chip.

Recently I found out that my lenovo yoga 710-15ikb laptop doesnt support digitizer active pen technology. Its hidden in online talks and also frustration when you buy a $70 wacom bamboo ink pen to find that it doesnt work. I understand that most active pens wont work with my computer because the screen (and maybe motherboard) dont have a digitizer. However, I have been looking online and some retailers appear to be selling digitizer lcd screens for my specific model. My question is whether or not these retailers are selling aftermarket screens and if they are will the digitizer work once one is installed? Also, I have a lot of experience doing repair work, mainly with digital cameras and building my desktop, so the task of replacing my laptops screen is not a problem Im just unsure as to whether or not buying a new digitizer lcd screen will work. I dont want to spend money that I dont have to if it turns out that I am just being misled.

Thanks!

Let me know if you need more clarification I'll be around for a while.

I bought a new L840/03R and installed Windows 8 using the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant. There were no error messages.

The function keys don't work with CTRL and ALT. So I can't use shortcuts like ALT F4 to close windows - this gives 'second screen' options. It does this for F4 on its own, or with CTRL, ALT or SHIFT held down.

Also, F11 toggles sound on/off instead of going full screen in chrome. F12 toggles flight mode instead of 'save as' in word.
Have just downloaded and installed the Value Added Package.

Am I missing something really obvious?

Answer:Satellite L840/03R - FN buttons not working correctly after Win 8 upgrade

The Fn keys are reversed on the new models.

You need to hold down Fn to use the standard F1, F2, F3... function keys.

Have a look in the BIOS, I think you can change it back to normal via a BIOS setting.
