What if universal apps on Windows 10 stopped developers from making apps?!

Question: What if universal apps on Windows 10 stopped developers from making apps?!

Hey everyone ?
I came with a bit of weird thought I dunno if I was right or wrong , I like the universal app thing and it is really amazing to have the very same app run on both my phone and laptop , this idea is really compelling and good for developers for easier developing and wider audience , but if you take another look , wouldn't that be bad for some certain developers or companies ?
Take WhatsApp for example , it hadn't ever made an app for PC did it ? But with windows 10 it MUST make that app bcos it will run on the PC , am I wrong ? The same story goes for other apps like snapchat , and less common apps like bitstrips (makes cartoonish comics of yourself and share on facebook and twitter) , so what do you think ??

Preferred Solution: What if universal apps on Windows 10 stopped developers from making apps?!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Microsoft's Build 2015 opening keynote set a clear tone for the 3-day conference by establishing that it's all about developers (heard that one before?). In a way, you could say this is Microsoft going back to its roots, though with Satya Nadella...

Answer:Developers, Developers: Windows 10 as a unified platform, runs Android/iOS apps, Continuum & more

The company is counting on driving massive adoption by making Windows 10 free for the first year, and forecasts 1 billion devices on all kind of form factors will be running the OS within 3 years.Click to expand...

I like Windows 10 so far, it looks promising.
Simple little things like this and Solitare go a long way to sell a product, silly as it may seem to some.

Microsoft is blending in instead of forcing their way and honestly, anything different would be disastrous at this point and they know it. From a networking and backbone/infrastructure standpoint they still have the best hand but on a user level (well them and Linux), its time for change and this is a good start.
As first when I read this article and saw it was only free for the first year I was a little disappointed, but I am over that now.
The question is, if someone upgrades for free and decides not to purchase Windows 10, what will still work and what will not? Can they just back down to W7/W8 or will a reformat/re-image be required? How will that all play out?

One thing that didn't get much notice during the Build keynote speech is that Visual Studio 2015 can now build native Objective C apps and target Windows Universal, including the iOS libraries. Apparently, King Games used this to bring Candy Crush Saga to Windows Universal.

We may see a LOT more iOS apps being ported to Windows Univeral apps in the future...

I noticed that and that could be interesting and more easy to port iOS apps to Windows 10.

So I just found out that i can't pin left in the start menu anymore.

Now that i'm done complaining. How do i organize my "All Apps" Menu.

Calculator, Contact, Mail, Cortana, etc ALL of this garbage bloatware is something i just want to create a folder called Microsoft Bloat and put it in there. How do i do this?

First time around, i uninstalled all of it using power shell but i ended up needing the store and one other app but W10 went retarded and didn't allow me to reinstall the packages, so this time around. I just want to organize them into a folder that i will never touch

I really hope someone can help me do this, i don't feel like downgrading back to 8.1 which as it stands right now was better for me when using Start8.

What do you mean by " pin left" ? Would you please explain ?

I don't believe you can do that. The apps are being organized in alphabetical order and I don't think you can take some of them out and put into a folder.

You don't have to uninstall all of them.

Just how do universal apps fit in with desktop apps and the cloud?
One developer said he didn't want to make a slightly dumbed
down universal version that had only a minimal advantage in that it
could also be used on a phone. It seems to me that developers are better off developing a full desktop app which can run on PCs and tablets. Where is the value in developing for the phone which has only a 3% market share? When you consider that you could run
a full desktop version on a phone via the cloud and continuum, the
usefulness of a universal app seems even less.
To make universal apps worthwhile they need to have the functionality
of the desktop version or else very very close. Is that possible?
I can see that having universal apps allows you to run Office, for
instance, without the cloud; is that enough to make them worthwhile?

All the time I hear about the unification of the code base of Windows 10 on desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, and xbox. With this conversation universal apps are always mentioned. So my question is this, and I hope that it has a simple answer: how is this so different from Windows and WP 8.1? They already have a shared kernel, and universal apps can be made on the OSes. Are ALL apps made for Windows 10 universal, without any special effort made by the dev, or is it basically the same (or slightly easier) than on 8.1? I ask this because even with the possibility of universal apps available to devs, it does not seem like that many are fully taking advantage of it. Will there now be no more work needed to make an app universal?
TL;DR Are ALL apps made for Window 10 and Windows 10 for phones universal, meaning they will be available on both platforms?

Answer:Windows 10 and Universal Apps

You're right, the unification is mostly done. The last two things are a unified app store and more consistency between the phone and tablet UI.
So, Windows 10 is essentially marketing without substance.

Ok so I just had a seriously cool moment, having faffed around with my laptop with previous builds I decided to try it on my desktop as I wanted to see if the issues with sluggishness was the quality of Windows 10 or my laptop. But as I started to install apps from the Windows Store I noticed I could download the Office preview apps that I had installed from Windows 10 Mobile.
These are the universal apps not Win32, these may seem geeky but to see Universal apps in action in this way absolutely floored me. Even though you get a pop up to say you need a office 365 account to edit I was able to open a document from OneDrive, edit and save. This has to be a one of the killer features of 10 and something that MS should be shouting about from the rooftops. I am seriously impressed.
?

Answer:Windows 10 Universal apps

I've had a couple of moments like this for these apps myself. I agree that it's something that's currently setting Windows 10 apart and I think this will only keep increasing as time goes by - but yes, MS should be making more of this.
I guess we'll need to stay tuned for more case studies of this around the time of launch.

Despite Windows 10 being adopted at a massive rate, it seems developers are tepid as to the prospect of creating apps. In some cases, existing 8.1 apps are still left rotting while new apps seem few and far between. We're about 3 months since release with over 110 million installs.
What is going to convince developers to look at making Universal Windows Apps?
I know the standard arguments that "why would they, people don't use apps on PC - they have a browser". Heard it, don't need to hear it again.
I want to know what you think will get developers to make apps? What is the catalyst, beyond sheer volume of users? What else can Microsoft do to make them understand an app is superior to web experience?
I think games would be the obvious winner here. Games are a perfect fit for the volume of users and Win10 Store. I cannot for the life of me fathom why Supercell refuses to put Clash of Clans on Win10 - why wouldn't they want to get access to millions of users across PC/Phone/Tablet and ultimately Xbox?

Answer:Despite mass adoption rate of Windows 10, developers still tepid on creating apps...

Hi,
Since I've upgraded to Windows 10, most of the time when my Surface Pro 3 goes to sleep or stand-by, most (if not all) of the universal apps (mail, edge, etc.) freeze. When I return from sleep, their windows are all completely unresponsive, except for the minimize and close button on the top right.
Did anyone experience the same? None of the recent updates fixed this issue.
Kind Regards,
Mathieu

Answer:Why are my Universal apps freezing on standby (Windows 10, SP3)?

Yeah, I've noticed this issue with Microsoft Edge on my Acer Windows tablet too.
So far the only workaround for this issue is to avoid minimizing the app before you put the tablet to sleep. Let me know if it works for you.

As we continue to close the gap between Win32 and Universal Windows Apps, one of the features we?ve recently introduced is the ability to activate a UWA from a command line and pass the app arbitrary command-line arguments. This is available to Insiders from build 16226.

This feature builds on the App Execution Alias extension already available for Desktop Bridge apps. To use this feature in a UWA, there are two key additions to your app:
Add an appExecutionAlias extension to your app manifest.
Override OnActivated and handle the incoming arguments.

For the manifest entry, you first need to declare the XML namespace for the AppExecutionAlias element:

<Package
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/appx/manifest/foundation/windows10"
xmlns:mp="http://schemas.microsoft.com/appx/2014/phone/manifest"
xmlns:uap="http://schemas.microsoft.com/appx/manifest/uap/windows10"
xmlns:uap5="http://schemas.microsoft.com/appx/manifest/uap/windows10/5"
IgnorableNamespaces="uap mp uap5">

The AppExecutionAlias is declared as an Extension within your Application. This is quite simple and almost the same as for a Desktop Bridge app:

<Application ...>

<Extensions>
<uap5:Extension
Category="windows.appExecutionAlias"

Start 10 Problem ? Going to their help forum.
Do I need to do a repair reinstall ?

Answer:Windows 1511 Pro lost Universal Apps in menu

Are you saying Windows start menu is OK and Start10 is not? If so then sure it is a Start10 problem.

You could do a repair install as it only takes half an hour - it will not make anything worse and certainly I'd try that first.

You should bear in mind though that the start menu layout is stored under your user profile in %localappdata% which a repair install may not update. If Start10 are trying to look there for their information you may see no difference.

It would be interesting information anyway so I'd try it on one of the desktops and see.

I was watching those videos for developers about the new SDK, and from what I understood "Universal apps" is not a new technology, there is nothing special about it. Just the same Universal apps of Windows 8 with a few improvements. There was no mention of any support for productivity apps in this framework, It's still touch centric.
The same could be said about Windows 10. It's just Windows 7 plus tiles, Cortana and notifications. Windows 10 mobile is just Windows Phone 8.1 with hamburger menus . In contrast, Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8 were such a big departures from their previous versions.
It would be surreal if a few tweaks here and there would be enough to save Windows from oblivion.https://channel9.msdn.com/Series/Dev...ows-10-Preview

Answer:Universal apps is not a new amazing technology that could save Windows

Nobody claimed that universal apps were new?? but the idea that those apps will now be accessible on each platform (xbox/pc/laptop/tablet/phone) is a new one for MS :) Ok ok so the basics were already present, just not functional, still...
Imagine your productivity level, if you can use one app on all those devices (except for the xbox, cuz you might just end up gaming instead of working lol)..

As stated, I am having a issue in Enterprise trying to get the Windows Store and other Universal Apps to open. It will show the app "splash screen" for a few seconds and then go away. Since event log is not really Universal App friendly, I'm not really sure where to proceed. I'm hoping one of you guys have come across a fix for this. Here are some things I have tried already.
1) Clear store local cache under %appdata% - Doesn't work because store never launched, therefore no cache exists.
2) WSRESET loops to store attempting to open and same result.
3) Powershell command goes through its process but does not fix effected Universal Applications behavior: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.Ins

tallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
4) Creating a new local account is not an option.
5) Windows App troubleshooter had no reported issues.
6) Nothing out of the ordinary with Wireshark & Fiddler captures.
7) Stopping Symantec Endpoint Protection with SMC -Stop command does not fix the issue

Answer:Enterprise Windows 10 Store and select Universal Apps won't open

I am experiencing the same behavior on my Surface Pro 3 when I am not connected to the internet. Do your store apps crash when you have an internet connection? It seems like this problem with Windows 10 is wide-spread and without a fix or work around. Some people have had temporary success by completely refreshing their devices. I'm not going to do that if I can avoid it, Microsoft needs to fix this.

Answer:Developers of WP apps - I've a ❓ 4 U :)

Of course you could develop these games as WP app. But you should have access to the source code of these old games and try to port the code onto the new platform. You could also reuse the tiles, ipictures, etc.
However, you also should keep the copyright in mind!

Will the apps which are currently available on windows phone(Like WhatsApp Messenger, Hike, etc) be available for my PC(Desktop) with the new Universal Windows Store?

Answer:Windows Phone apps will run on Desktops with Windows 10 as per Universal Store?

No. Previously (8.1), to make a Universal App, you had to release separate packages to the separate stores. These packages would have the same name and id. Now, you release a single package to a single store, but it contains multiple builds for various form factors (desktop, phone,Xbox, hololens, and IoT). While the process is easier, you still have to enable spot for each form factor. So until your favorite apps get released as w10 universals with desktop support, no.

A few days ago I looked into the new Developer Portal from Microsoft. Low and behold, they improved a lot of features (and went backwards in a few others, but that is a different story)
Now developers can create "Promo Codes", these codes can be created for apps or for in app purchases. First they need to order them from Microsoft, which doesn't take long. You can order up to 250 codes every 6 months. Each code you get is valid and can be redeemed for 6 months.
For each code you receive a simple link, that you can send to someone.
The receiver just clicks the link (might have to log in to their Microsoft Account) and just needs to click one more confirm button and they own the app.
The app / inapp product can then be downloaded from the store (if the trial is already installed, the user might still have to go to the store to active the app license, at least on Wp8.1)Why is this awesome for developers?
There are so many cases where this is awesome:
First, a developer doesn't have to buy his own app anymore!
Second, family and friends don't have to buy you app anymore you can just give it to them!
Third, you can give beta testers the app for free as a thank you!
And of cause you can give codes to people to review your app!Example giveaway
As a little celebration for this feature, I'm giving away 8 copies of my game "Binary Enigma"
Binary Enigma features over a 1000 challenging logic puzzles! Can you solve them all?
All enigmas can be solved by reasoning following these rules... Read more

Answer:Just realised: Developers can now give away their Apps/Games! (+ Giveaway)

I installed many apps locker they all work fine but I can still access apps from the all apps list.

Answer:My apps locker work fine but apps can be accessed from the all apps list, how can I prevent this?

Yes. There is no such thing as a real app locker app in Windows Phones. This is because third party apps are not allowed to interact or interfere with other third party apps due to Windows Phone Sandboxing technology.
If the developer was careful with his app, he or she would have indicated the limitations of the "app locker" he created in the app description. Otherwise, if there is no such disclaimer about the limitations of the app in the app description, the user is encouraged to report the app to Microsoft as a fraudulent or misleading app.

Is there a way to check if an app is Universal or not? For example, if I want to install the Netflix Universal app, will it just automatically be the one in the store? Because, isn't there still a non-universal version?
Also, I have heard about people sorting or organizing, their universal apps in their start menu. How is this done? Are there other tips/tricks about universal apps?
Thanks....

Answer:Universal apps how to?

Don't think you can check (supposed to be transparent etc.) you may want to check out the guide to UWP apps if U haven't already https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/w.../dn894631.aspx

Question: Universal Apps

Is there a way for my desktop to work out what Universal Apps are on my phone and download them?? I would have thought with them both being synced that this would happen but it seems it's only app settings

Answer:Universal Apps

At this point, no, the apps between PC and phone do not sync. This would be a nice feature for them to add in a future update, though. Good idea!

Please do not act like this post is about the end of Windows and Universal App failure.
I noticed an issue with media related universal apps in Windows 10 that kind of annoys me, and I wish there was some sort of better solution. If I'm using an app (like Pandora, Groove) to listen to music or watch a video, it does not have the option to turn down the volume in a single app. Some of them do include it (like Mytube). I think it has to deal with the differences between how audio is handled on a phone where you use either the system volume button or the toggle for ALL media or notifications. When it translates to a computer it means loss of functionality unless you want to open the volume mixer all of the time. It does make using the web browser more functional though. If someone is writing to Microsoft about problems in Windows 10 maybe they could mention this little one for me.
Thanks

We don't have Windows 10 Mobile officially released yet - but I've noticed on a few occasions where the "mobile" app will be updated while the "desktop" app will not and vice versa.
I thought these universal apps were the SAME app? How/why are they updated separately?

Answer:Are Universl Apps truly universal?

I'm not a developer but my understanding is this: A UAP (e.g. MS weather app) uses the same baseline but a different UI and/or customizations for every device. You write your code and when it comes to compiling you have to choose for which device you want to compile you UAP. If you don't have anything new in your code that's relevant for the W10 mobile you maybe just want to compile it for W10 desktop.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong

Just wondering, has anyone created a universal app capable of running cpu benchmarks on Windows/Phone 8.1 devices? Or even separate apps that use the same methods? I was just thinking that it could make for some interesting comparisons.

GFXBench was recently released and it's a universal app :) (However the app did crash when I first ran it)

I notice there's a new 1 pixel white border around Universal apps like Mail and OneNote. This makes it easier to see the edge of the window when it overlaps similarly colored areas. This seems to be new since the update yesterday.

Last few days have been very exciting, we have seen quite a few apps coming as Universal Windows 10 Apps but don't see why they r not making for Xbox One? Does anybody know the reason?

Answer:Why No Universal Apps for Xbox One??

Because Microsoft isn't letting anyone yet. I expect things to open up after Build early next year, but despite claims of opening up the Xbox app store to everyone, Microsoft hasn't said a word about it.

I want to be, but I'm not convinced that developers are going to develop universal apps.
Facebook, SnapChat, banking apps, etc - the apps that form part of the 'app gap' - surely on the desktop we just use a web browser rather than installing apps for these sorts of things, so where is the motivation to develop them as universal apps?
Am I missing something?

Answer:I want to be, but I'm not convinced - Universal Apps

Certainly you don't miss anything. Even when apps like outlook are available in windows PC I don't use them but I use them on my browser

Since an update yesterday my universal apps (including Photos) won't open. I get the message 'Photos can't be opened using the Built in Administrator Account. Sign in with a different account and try again.' Same message with other apps. I don't have the built in administrator account active and only have one account on this laptop - mine - which has administrator rights.
When I restarted my laptop after the update I did notice a small message about settings but it flashed on and off screen so fast I don't really know what it meant but I suspect there was a change made that has caused this problem. I have tried a system restore using several restore points but they failed. I would be very grateful if someone has an answer to this - preferably step by step as I'm not very tech savvy! Thanks. Kind regards Flissa.

Worried this to death - finally. I had turned off UAC using a 3rd party tweaker and included the administrator account. Apparently Universal Apps don't run if you do that.

How do I get them and is there a default setting to reinstall them?

Thanks

Answer:Missing most of the Universal Apps

Hi SamIOW

Any chance you have restore points enabled? You could do a system restore to a point in time where you know they were present.

There is also a very good tutorial here within the forum.

Apps - Reinstall and Re-register in Windows 8 and 10

Myself I would do the restore first. You can see the apps are missing but I would be wondering if anything else changed that I can't see.

This is not your typical "My modern apps don't work" post. Some of my apps are working fine, for instance Edge and Mail. Others, do not, such as the Windows Store, Weather, Photos, etc...

I've tried all the various tricks to uninstall and re-install these apps, but get the same thing. The Event Log says that the apps can't be "activated", which indicates some kind of licensing issue perhaps, but I haven't found the solution yet.

This is Windows 10 Enterprise 14388 build. It's joined to a domain, and I strongly suspect that my domain admins have a group policy that is interfering, but I can't be sure. They had already disabled Microsoft Accounts, and turned off Telemetry via group policy and registry settings, which I have countered by forcing these back on and denying update access to those keys. I suppose it's possible that this might be affecting the apps as well, but it's strange that some apps work and some don't.

Any suggestions? SFC and Dism cleanups report no issues or corruption. App re-installs seem to complete fine, but the apps still don't work. UAC is, of course, ON.

That is a common statement for abandoning apps because of any reasons (might be they dont want to spend on Windows App dev / maintenance). They would obviously not detail what security issues are, since that would also expose their own security measures how week it is wrt other banks who have apps on various platforms !!

Hi,
I have been noticing this happens on and off, the universal apps freeze on hitting minimize button. An example would be Groove Music app pauses song playback when minimized. I was trying this app 8 Zip for unzipping files, and as soon I minimized the app, it pauses the progress.
Does it happen to everyone?
For what I have observed, this behavior is inconsistent, perhaps a bug in Windows itself? And why would I use on app on a humungously powerful desktop that wont work in the background. Doesn't make sense.

I study in CBSE . I have been taught C++ in school. But not how to make GUI's . I am really interested to start making Apps for Windows Phone. I am already a fan of the OS platform. Please advise what Progamming languages I should learn to make good apps.

Answer:How to start making Apps for Windows Phone?

I mainly use C#, but you can also code in Java or C++.. Just depends on the project type you pick... Go to http://dev.windows.com < that site has all the resources you will need to get your feet wet... You can set up a free developer account, which is great because you won't have to pay the 1 time dev fee until you have an app ready to publish.
Also on that site is a download link for a free version of Visual Studio, which is what I use for my apps.
Edit I updated the link to the newer link.. MS has kind of combined the windows and Windows phone developer centers.

Last night my Lumia 925 randomly locked up (which it seems to do quite often) so I did a soft reset and then noticed a bunch of problems.
First I noticed a bunch of my app tiles were blank or only displaying the app name. That happens from time to time when apps are updated or decide to lose track of the day. So I tried to go in and refresh them. But a lot of them wouldn't open. Others will open but crash immediately, and others still will open and display their info but won't update their live tiles. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling some of them but it has had no effect.
In addition to apps not behaving, various settings windows won't open. I thought maybe my phone updated and the update was buggy, but I can't check because Extras+Info crashes before opening.
Also, in my app list the first 4 apps are things I did not install, and don't look normal. @{Miscrosoft.BingTranslate, @{Microsoft.MSBatterySaver, @{Microsoft.MSCalendar, and @{Microsoft.MSPodcast. Pretty sure none of those are supposed to be displaying that way.
I didn't attempt to install anything. I've been running 8.1. I don't know if there was an update pushed out last night that I didn't notice installing.
But my phone isn't working and I am frustrated.
Anyone know what's wrong or have suggestions?

Since Chrome OS is a hit with the education sector it got me wondering whether Microsoft should come up with a counter OS..........BUT with a different name instead of Windows (Edge or Cortana, Azure, Cloud OS?) like Xbox OS, Xbox OS is the name of the Operating system running on Xbox One, but Windows 10 Core is powering the OS with APIs, Universal Apps etc.
Since Windows 10 based Universal Apps can run on any architecture be it ARM or X86 and with the bridges of Win32 apps and IOS and Android apps to the Windows Store, Do you think it's possible that Microsoft would create an OS that is more cloud based like Chrome OS, but instead of having just web based apps as it's main function, Microsoft can promote Universal Apps but at the same time promote web apps like Chrome OS?
So essentially it's a Windows RT OS, but instead of selling the OS to consumer markets like what Windows RT did with the Surface RT, this OS should be exclusive to the Education and business sector and should run on low cost devices like Chromebooks and have up to date software.
What do you think, is it possible or is it clashing with Windows 10 despite the different name like Xbox OS is a different name but runs Windows 10 Core
I'll love an OS that is like Chrome OS, but with Universal Apps from the Windows Store like Groove Music, Wunderlist, Minecraft etc

I'm encountering a number of random scrolling issues within Edge and other Universal/Modern/Store apps. When scrolling a web page, the page gets "stuck" and won't move within the browser window. Edge itself remains responsive - I can reload the page, or close its tab. And other tabs remain unaffected. Also, links on the page itself still work. I can actually interact with the portion of the page that's visible, just not scroll it in any direction. Reloading the page doesn't fix it, but if I close the tab and reopen it, then load the page again, it works (happened just this morning on "Dilbert.com" when viewing one of Scott Adams' blog entries).

I've noticed this behavior in at least one other app: Readiy (an RSS reader app). In the main "All Items" view, the list of articles will often become "stuck," much like a web page in Edge. I've also noticed the behavior occurs more often when using the touchpad in the Type Cover of my Surface.

Note: I'm running the Insider Preview build 10532 on a Surface 3 (not Pro) w/4GB RAM.

Anyone encountering anything similar?

In past builds, universal apps were always installed during a user's first logon to the system. So when you see the "Preparing" message during the logon process, it was installing the universal apps, among other first-logon activities.

In 10130, it appears to me that universal apps are actually installed after the user gets to the desktop. At least, when I have created a few new users, I couldn't use many universal apps for several minutes after logging on the first time. The tiles for the apps were grayed out. Then, all of a sudden a few minutes later, the apps were working.

Has this been anyone else's experience?

Answer:Does the latest build install universal apps after first logon?

I went into the Settings > Installed Apps where it shows the installed Apps and what size they are. I wanted to uninstall a couple and noticed Apps being added while I watched that screen. One at a time every few seconds a new tile/app would pop up in the list. This was after it had calculated all the sizes etc and displayed the apps. I was scrolling through the list as new apps were being installed. This was the first or second time logging in right after doing an upgrade from Windows 7. I don't remember what the apps were but they weren't ones I had installed on other PC manually. It wasn't the sync function as far as I could tell.

if you simple check the Whatsapp it is double in size than the apps in Andriod store.
is not this a issue. it is eating too much of internal memory

Answer:Why are Windows Phone apps larger in size as compared to Andriod apps?

If true, then the app will occupy more space in storage (internal or SD card). There is however no direct relationship between file size and RAM usage. You can't tell, just by looking at file size, how much memory will be required.

'Move installed apps' and 'New apps will save to' setting is greyed out for me, after upgrading to Windows 10. Anyone else seeing the same way?
There was a way to Move Windows 10 Apps to Other Drive and Change Install Location.

Answer:Move installed apps & New apps will save to settings greyed out - Windows 10

It appears that this decision has been postponed by Microsoft:

We have actually made the decision to postpone the apps on SD functionality to a later release. While I know this feature excited many of us, we didn't feel like it was ready for prime time. Our goal is to delight users with everything that we build, and we truly feel that that is what will happen once we have fully built our vision for this feature.

Hi,
In a big problem from few days. Suddenly Universal apps have stopped working. Whenever I click them, splash screen appears for few seconds and then goes away throwing an error "The remote procedure call failed". The icon of apps have gone from Start Menu. See Mail, Weather and Music.

Since yesterday, Weather was working. But today it has also been corrupted. I used sfc scan and DISM, both failed to solve some files problem. I don't want to create a new user account since I will have to reinstall apps. Can any one please help me out?

Maybe re-registring apps using Dism help. But i know there's a bug in November update which causes all apps to become corrupt. Hence I didn';t try it.

Has anyone found this an issue, and is there a solution?

My laptop touchpad (Synaptics TouchPad V7.4 latest drivers 15.0.10.0 26/02/2010) is fully functional in existing windows programs. So things like the right-hand scroll area work, two-finger scrolling, pinch to zoom etc all work as expected IN EXISTING WINDOWS PROGRAMS)

However, in any of the new-fangled W10 Universal Apps this enhanced functionality doesn't seem to work - for instance, the right-hand scroll area is being detected (as the little scroll icon appears), but the actual functionality isn't working - the only way I can scroll is using the default mouse method with the cursor on the scroll bar and left-button/slide to scroll

Answer:Laptop Touchpad fully functional, but not in new Win10 Universal apps

Just for an update, I've tried doing the following(having imaged the drive first so I can recover if required).

Downloaded the 19.0.19.1 drivers from SynapticsDeleted the existing 15.0.10 Synaptics program settings in control panel (as the setup won't run until this is removed)Run setup from the downloaded 19.0.19.1 Synaptics driver filesAfter this, the extra "Device Settings" tab is not present in the "Mouse Properties" window, and the enhanced functionality is no longer available in anything.
So I've now reinstalled the disk image to get back to the Synaptics functionality.

After the reset, Windows was no longer activated and I had to reactivate it. which neither of us knows why, it was activated before we did a data factory reset. after I created my user, I installed a bunch of exes. now I go to try to see if I could test out the Windows Store to search for apps. but I search "Windows Store" or "app store" and several other things that may bring it up, but it always says, "no apps match your search" like if the Windows store is missing or somehow magically removed with the reset process. How do I get it back?

Answer:Microsoft all apps are on Android But why Goolgle apps on Windows Phone?

The simplest way to put this is: Microsoft is a nice company. Google isn't.

When I attempt to shutdown or restart my pc I receive a message stating that there are still apps/processes still running. The number of apps running usually runs between 16-20 apps/processes. However, there are never any applications or programs running before I decide to shutdown. The names of the "apps" appear to be names of background processes. I have tried many things, but cannot seem to solve this problem.

Microsoft all apps are on Android But why not Google all apps on Windows Phone?

Answer:Microsoft all apps are on Android But why not Google all apps on Windows Phone?

Priorities. Where's the users? Android. So where's the money? Android. It's not right but it looks like Microsoft will try and focus more on Windows Mobile soon. Let's hope so.

I've just this morning had about half of my apps cease working with the message "application cannot work" or words to the effect of.

I've found a few solutions on-line but they all require me to run secpol.msc, which all seems to do with security statuses, and my machine apparently doesn't have that in order to run it!

Any clues as to what I can do?

Answer:Apps on Windows 10 system have stopped working

Do you have a system restore point created from prior to when the apps stopped working? If you do, then you can try restoring to that point. I presume the apps that are not working are the native Microsoft ones such as photos, calendar, weather etc? They are the ones most prone to corrupting.

if the above fails you could try opening store (if that is still working) and check if any updates are stuck

1. Wanted to post this issue with Windows 8 PRO 64 bit recently.
2. My Apps stopped working and all recovery efforts failed to get them working again.
3. Ran several malware and anti-virus programs and still no help to get my Apps working again.
4. I click on an App and the display just returns to the start display.
5. So, I had to reinstall Windows 8 from scratch since none of the "RESTORE" listing would restore.
6. I had not made a "recovery drive" so that was not an option.

Answer:Apps stopped working and reinstall Windows 8 PRO 64 bit

welcome to the forum, crgurganus.
Remove any security related programs... and see what what happens.. or else try the refresh option using windows 8 installation disc, it is so because the security programs stop the modern apps from functioning properly... if the apps become well, install your security program once again with the most latest virus definitions and program update.

Answer:Why have some of my apps stopped working since downgrading my Windows OS?

PC or laptop?
Reboot. Log in with your Microsoft Account. I assume it is linked.
Try logging onto Microsoft Account via browser and see if it generates any messages.

My Windows 10 Live apps (News, Money, Weather) used to update their content automatically. They have stopped doing that. Is there a setting or a process that needs to be running that would enable the content updates?

In trying to fix another problem I did stop some processes and disabled some on the Startup tab of Task Manager. (My bad!)

I hope someone can help me. I got on my PC last night and all my metro 8.1 apps stopped working. They keep saying that they failed and to go to PC settings to refresh. At first even PC settings would not open up, it would say missing Media and installation files. I checked my Event Viewer and this started on 2/5 at 6am but I have not had any driver updates since 1/31. I found a blog post where I ran some powershell script to get into PC settings but now when I click on "Refresh" it says media or installation files not found. I downloaded 8.1 update from the windows store.
Does anyone know why all of a sudden all my metro apps stopped working and how to fix it?
Thanks for your help

Answer:all my Metro Apps stopped working on windows 8.1

You need to update windows to the latest version and allow windows firewall to work

in windows store there's a tab name account in that tab pre installed apps shown when i log into other pc's these apps start to download automatically and pc got slow, is there any way to dlt those apps

Answer:How do I delete apps from my account in the Windows apps store?

Sure. You could opt out of syncing those apps to your PC by going to PC Settings and finding the sync settings there, and you can cancel the downloads at the Windows Store.

Hi Everyone,

I'm superlulu from France (sorry my English)
I'm installing Windows 10 on new computer for my organization . I try to configurate one with fresh install (package of apps like Libreoffice, VLC, etc. for users) and custom desktop describes in this tutorial:

Default User Profile - Customize in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

It works fine, in audit mode I install apps, drivers, custom desktop and configure default apps like google chrome for internet browser, adobe reader for pdf files etc.

then I run the command line to enter oobe mode generalize. Everything is ok, I continue my install. Then I create new user local account. And when windows starts, I have my custom desktop but default apps are removed (Microsoft Edge replace Chrome, Pdf files are read with Edge, etc.) and Apps Windows like "Weather" or "Actualities" crash . I really don't understand what happened... i try many times for same issue...

Does anyone have an idea ?

Thanks a lot

I never tried sysprepping 10 but i have faced similar issues with 8.1. Turned out that you need to save the default app associations to an XML file using DISM (before Generalizing the image ) and later import it.

Export or Import Default Application Associations

Configure, export, import App File Associations in Windows 8.1

I have used "Setupcomplete.cmd" to auto import the app associations during the last face of install.

Add a Custom Script to Windows Setup
You may also need to disable the new app notification before generalizing the image.

As a standard suggestion - try restarting your device, checking your internet connection, checking time and region settings, checking if your microsoft account is syncing properly or not
What device is this? A pc or mobile?
