Edge has no back, forward, home, url, favorites, or settings. How can I get all of these to work in Edge?

Question: Edge has no back, forward, home, url, favorites, or settings. How can I get all of these to work in Edge?

Microsoft Edge does not have any control buttons, from the opening page you have to search to get to any website.
Does anyone know how to get these to work in edge? As of right now it is a useless program and a huge step backwards from IE11.

Preferred Solution: Edge has no back, forward, home, url, favorites, or settings. How can I get all of these to work in Edge?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

While the latest Insider build has numerous steps forward, the new favorites removed the ability to hold the Ctrl button and click multiple favorites at one time and open each in a new tab. Now it's open one favorite at a time, ugh.

Never a Chrome guy but molasses like development of Edge has made me use it.

I was quite surprised at the lack of some of the basic features of Microsoft Edge that have been found in IE for years that are critical in my mind. One of these is the ability to have a drop down list on both the back and forward buttons in the browser to be able to quickly go to a page you've visited without having to click through each individual page.

I was hoping that Edge would get that feature in some of the updates that have taken place, including this most recent November update, but it hasn't happened yet. Does anybody know if this will be a feature added? In the meantime, it's looking more and more like I'll return to IE.

Answer:Back and Forward Buttons in Edge - dropdown list

I've voiced concerns over this lack of a Drop-Down list when navigating in Edge. It's such a basic feature that I can't believe it was overlooked by the Edge development team. Even the most basic start-up browsers have this ability...because it's important and useful.

In previous versions of IE, there has always been a way to access the recent pages you visited by using the back and forward buttons. By seeing a list of the pages, you could then select the specific one you wanted to go to instead of clicking through one page at a time until you finally reached your destination. I find this function extremely valuable and use it constantly.

I have not been able to find the same functionality in Windows Edge yet, and my search on the internet has not found any information about this issue. Is this function not possibly any longer? Has there been any discussion of Windows bringing it to Edge? If not, it is almost a deal breaker for me.

Thanks in advance.

You are correct. It is not available in EDGE. I reported this through tester Feedback channels twice since I have been testing Win 10 Spartan and then Edge and have received no response from MS. I use that feature frequently on a Toshiba laptop trouble Forum every day and will NOT continue with Edge if they don't correct that oversight. Otherwise, Edge is a very good browser and that from a guy who hated IE.

I suppose the lack of response means that the functionality is not in Edge browser yet. A pity. Something as basic as the ability to make the jump back to a recent page(s) should have been a no-brainer to the Edge development team. Microsoft says that they thoroughly tested Windows10/Edge/Cortana with BETA groups before releasing the final product. Is that right? Hard to believe.

I hope everyone is using the "Send Feedback" functionality of Edge to report all grievances, with Edge and Windows10 in general. (It's in the Edge drop down menu.)

I have done a lot of googling on this and it seems like no. The file that a lot of sites says has the favorites doesn't have anything, you have to rely on syncing your system, but the setting for syncing is greyed out because I am not using a Microsoft account or a work account. Is there anyway around this to either back up my favorites or turn syncing on, or must I abandon Edge?

I have seen several references to changing an entry in the registry to turn syncing on, but I don't know if they are current, and it seems risky.

Thanks

Since installing the November Windows 10 update (11/17/15) none of my favorites are being stored in the default Edge folder. While in Edge the favorites are available but when I go to the default folder they are not listed. Is there another location they may be being saved or has my default location somehow been changed? Hi guys, Using my X1C3...there was a time last year (maybe around Aug~Sep 2016) I was able to do a 2 fingers lef/right gesture on Microsoft Edge. But now I cannot. I believe this has to do with either: 1) Synaptic driver version, or 2) To have my trackpad recognized has "Precision Trackpad" so settings will be available through Windows settings. I believe I already have the latest synaptic driver (Version 19.3.4.67) So this leaves me with 2). Can I have my computer recognize the trackpad as "Precision Trackpad"? so that settings will be available in Windows settings? Or this gesture thing is juts no longer available for X1C3?? Thanks for answers in advance!

I am having quite the technical difficulty with the new Windows 10 update. This one I'm posting here was a lot easier before from IE to Chrome. If I remember right, it was an easy step by step process. And now I have no idea what to do, my computer is freaking out, and I am generally not impressed with this new update. And the apps! Apparently I have too many already, and that's within the first five minutes? What did they install on here??

Answer:How do I import settings (passwords, favorites, etc) from Chrome to Windows Edge?

For favorites you go on the 3 dots in the top right corner > Settings > Import Favorites from another Browser and choose Chrome
For Passwords I am searching but i dont think there's an easy way

The popup launched to ask me if I wanted to import favorites from IE. I did not clear cookies, temp internet files, nothing. Has this happened to anyone else?

Seniors and those with weak eye sight need to enlarge fonts on screen to see, resulting in reduced display space.
Prior IE browsers had one line entries for the Favorites listing. New Edge browser uses two line for each link listing. This takes up valuable display space, forcing double the scroll ups and scroll downs to pop up favorite links.
How can one set Edge style for favorite listings to one line entries?

Answer:How to change Edge browser favorites list back to one line entries?

I agree. When you open Internet Explorer favorites you get a huge list. But there are too few favorites displayed when you open Edge favorites. In Edge they need to use a smaller font or get rid of the URL that is added to each favorite.

I have windows 10 preview 10565 installed on two computers. I have "Sync your content" on in Edge. Should my bookmarks get synced between the two computers? Do I need to do something else to get it work other than turning syncing on?
If it doesn't work, is there a file I can go to on one computer, copy it, and they move it to the other to get the bookmarks? Would really prefer it to sync though but at least this would be a start.
Thanks

You have to sign on to the same MS account on both. I'm on 10586 and favorites are synched. I have sync turned on in edge and also in Settings > Accounts > Sync your settings.

Answer:[thinkpad edge 0302-45u] back to factory settings with a clean hard drive. how?

You need the backup disks, unless you have a recovery partition.  You should have been prompted to make these when you first booted the computer. If the computer is under warranty, you can have Lenovo send you recovery disks.  If not they are some $50 or something like that.  If you are like me and think it is stupid to repay for something that is already yours, you can proabbyl find windows7 legitimate downlaods on the internet somewhere.  I have seen links for them before on sevenforums. But I never actually followed them,  You can then use your key on the sticker on your computer to reinstall.  Though this will not result in al the extra crap lenovo ships with their computers (though I think it is all crap anyways... including windows).

I have lost all my Favorites in Edge. I have recovered a copy of the desired Favorites and have placed these favorites on my desktop as a file folder. The file structure has all the folders, and within each folder, the links to all the favorite websites. I have tried placing the contents of this file into the following location: C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\De fault
I understand that this is the default location for Edge Favorites. With the desired ?Favorites? folder placed and verified in the above location and I open Edge and click on Favorites and all I see under Favorites are two folders ?Favorites Bar? and ?BookmarksBar? I have enough icons in the Edge favorites bar that they do not all show in a browser window. Before the Creator update, at the right end of the items that showed there was a down carrot that expanded vertically down to show a list of the remaining favorites beyond those displayed horizontally. I'm not getting the down carrot now unless I toggle the "Show only icons of the favorites bar" setting. Then the down carrot comes back, but only for that Edge session. Toggling the "Show Favorites Bar" setting does not fix the issue. Any thoughts?

Question: Edge Favorites MIA

Approximately half of my Microsoft Edge favorites are missing. I regularly do backups with Edge Manage, but my recent backups over the past week are missing bits and pieces of my overall favorites. I am currently going back and adding favorites from over a week ago by manually going to each site and re-adding to the appropriate category.

I found this out this morning after resetting Microsoft Edge (deleting the package and then re-registering through AppXPackage). Upon resetting, my favorites were nowhere to be found. I waited for a half hour to see if they would be picked up through Microsoft's sync feature, but it just continued with the message to import my favorites from another browser. After importing my backup from yesterday, I found many of my favorites were still missing.

Is there a way to prevent Microsoft Edge from losing favorites? This has happened to me a couple dozen times now.

Answer:Edge Favorites MIA

This won't prevent you loosing them again, but it will put them some place safe. This is a line out of a batch file I regularly run to "backup" the favorites:

XCopy "C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\De fault\DataStore\*.*" "E:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\De fault\DataStore\*.*" /v/s/m/y

Hope this offers some use.

After last Windows update Edge favorites were gone. They could not be found in any folder under
c:\users\. Actual is ?Microsoft Edge 38.14393.1066.0 Microsoft EdgeHTML 14.14393?.

After the previous update I had to restart computer once or twice to get back all Edge add-ons and favorites. This time double restart did not recover favorites but during posting this question they suddenly appeared but not all of them. It is mix
of some favorites I have had.

There is no wonder that MS is giving no warranties to its products. It is sells nothing and it warrants for nothing. Who else could dare this except SW houses?

I am programmer to. If I do my work at least similar to how MS did that last update I will be fired soon after such an event

Question: Edge Favorites

In order to give Edge a fair trial I needed to get all my FFx Favorites into it, so I imported them and that worked fine but as I use more than one Win 10 system I also needed to be able then to sync Edge across all three systems. The MS way to do that is to use a Microsoft account on all systems, but as I use local accounts I chose to use my sync program, SyncBack Free, to accomplish this. The first requirement was to establish where Win 10 keeps the Edge Favorites, and Googling this gave me %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favorites. The problem is that this folder is empty, even though Edge displays all my Favs just fine So just where does Edge store favs after importing them from another browser?

I did come across one reply in the Windows 10 forum that listed them but not in the folders in the drop-down list in Edge and they were in code and not in plain English. Does anyone know where a list is located that gives the names in plain English and in their folders?

For anyone who has not, already, figured it out... Have to hit the New Tab + FIRST, then grab the site from the Favorites Bar wanted (there).  Cannot hit the FB site first; that will replace whatever site, already, open; will not open to a New Tab Cheers,Drew

Question: Edge Favorites bar

So in IE I have all my Favorite bar icon's tile width set to short tiles. But I've been unable to figure out how to do this in Edge, is it possible to do this in Edge or no? So far I've found organizing favorites in Edge to be a huge pain.

Answer:Edge Favorites bar

I never used IE because it sucked but I don't see an issue with Edges favorites (bookmarks) Just like any browser its a icon on the top right and click it and theres your favorites and folders. And import from your browsers if you want to. But as far as what your asking. With edge what you see is what you get concerning bookmarks. Not really any customizing available. IE still exists in Windows 10 if you still wanna use it however.

Question: Edge Favorites.

I just noticed after doing a clean install of windows 10 1607, that my favorites in ms edge are gone. Is there anyway to get them back?

Henry

Answer:Edge Favorites.

You did a clean install... which deletes everything. Why would you think they were still there? Favorites are not synced in the cloud.

If you don't have a backup, there's not much you can do.

Is it possible to set Edge NOT to put the items in the Favorites Bar in alphabetical order but rather let me put them in my own preferred order (as can be done in all other browsers, including IE)?

Thanks

Answer:Edge Favorites Bar Order

Yes, on the bar you can just drag the icon where you want it, if it's further down--such as under the drop down arrow, then you have to do it from within the Favorites setting.

So, one of the annoying things about Edge is that the Favorites are all stored in a database, and there is no UI feature to edit them (such as changing the url after the Favorite has been created).

This can be a little annoying when the link you want to save as a favorite gets redirected right away, so you don't have a chance to store the root favorite.

The easiest way to work around this is to create the favorite in IE, then import favorites into Edge. Yes, it's an extra step, but it works for me. Technically, this is not Editing the favorite, it's recreating it... but it gives you more control.

I am using Lumia 730 as my daily driver. It is on production release, and as a developer myself, I have been staying away from insider rings. So, official OS version on my phone.
My laptop is ASUS ROG, on Windows 10, latest production release, no insider ring here as well.
Both the devices are logged in with the same Microsoft account, and for some days, Edge is not syncing favorites which are very crucial for me. I have tried clearing Edge data several times, but no luck.
Is there any solution to it?

I populate the Favorites Bar of my Edge browser, use it sometimes for several days then one time I shut it down, power off the pc or reboot and when I open Edge again it comes up with no entries in the Favorite Bar and sometimes the whole Favorites folder is blank. This has happened from day one and continues still. So far I am Totally unimpressed with a lot of this new Windows release. For sure about ready to dump Edge altogether but thought I'd ask others first.
Thank you for your time

My question pretty well describes it: I've imported my favorites from Chrome, but: they're in reverse order. Which wouldn't be much of a problem but for the fact that I have a large number of favorites.

I've looked around quite a bit but have yet to discover if there's any sort of favorites management. Anyone? Help?!

I did a big cleanup of all my Favorites in IE11, then deleted all my Favorites/Bookmarks in Chrome and Firefox and re-imported them from IE11 to make sure everything is up-to-date, at least on my primary Windows machine.

I'd like to do the same in Edge but I can't find an easy way to delete all of my favorites at once. I can only see how to delete folders one by one, a tedious chore since I have a lot of folders. Is there any way to delete all Favorites at once in Edge?

Once that's done, I need to understand how the browsers sync with each other. To my surprise, IE11 on my main PC apparently synced folders from Chrome on my Android phone. i stupidly used microsoft first-level support for this.

i have a windows 10 laptop and two windows 10 tablets. within the past week, i have factory reset both tablets. still, after a few days, neither tablet has the Edge favorites on the laptop synced to them. yes, the "sync favorites and reading list" box is checked in edge on all the devices.

this microsoft chat tech listened to my problem, repeatedly, then opened a remote support session. his first move, before i could stop him, was to open Edge settings on one tablet and click Import Favorites.

i explained to him in capital letters that those weren't edge favorites, they were old IE favorites, which were not the same as edge favorites, because they were IE favorites. not Edge favorites. i showed him the significant differences between the Edge favorites on my laptop and the garbage he had just imported into Edge on my tablet. he tried and failed to clear out the edge favorites on the tablet. while this was happening, i noticed that all the garbage IE favorites he just imported into Edge on tablet #1 had synced to Edge on tablet #2 (but not the laptop, luckily, which confirms that my initial non-syncing problem originates on the laptop).

i used the powershell on the tutorial on this site to reset Edge on both tablets. Edge favorites are empty for a few minutes, but the junk favorites keep coming back.

I backed up the clean DataStore folder folder on my laptop. I put that folder in the right s... Read more

However, when I logged on today all my favorites in Microsoft Edge were in a different order, folders and individual websites were all jumbled up and it took me a while to find the ones I wanted.
So I deleted the DataStore file, Edge Had no favorites, imported a saved one from a memory stick, favorites were back, all the folders in alphabetical order, followed by individual websites.
However, 10 minutes later and they are all jumbled up again.
Has anyone else had this happen, and does anyone know how to stop it happening?

When I logged in just half an hour ago, I was greeted by "Welcome to Edge" It appears to have reset itself and I needed to Log into this site again, even from Chrome. At least Chrome hadn't lost all my Favorites, but Edge appears to be completely blank. All memories gone.
Anyone have any idea whats going on. This is the Third/Fourth time it's happened.

I have just noticed. The Spell checker seems to have reverted to American spelling

When a favorite is added it is added to the bottom of the list, and so on. I would like to sort them alphabetically if possible.

Thanks for any tips,

Yes they can I have mine sorted A-Z in folders.
You can also do it that way without making folders.
Have just checked and done it and it works.
Just click on the favourite you want and drag it to where you want it and it should stay there.
Make sure you left click when you drag it.
Hope that helps you

If you thought Edge couldn't find a harder place to hide the Favorites you were wrong. The current favorites are still in the same hard to find place but new additions are in a different place and they are now .xml files.

For example, this is the location for a new one added today:-

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\#!001\MicrosoftEdge\Us er\Default\DOMStore\GFEVVA1C

So it is very hard to track or control favorites now as there are randomisations in the #!nnn folder and the last randomly generated 8 char folder.

Edit:- "user" has had a space injected!

I have found plenty of methods on google, but they all seem obsolete. If you are using win 10 TH2(1511 build):
Then
Yes, But using 3rd party application.. Head over and download the Manage Edge Favorites software. You will find the download link at the bottom of the page. Preferably, download the portable version so that you don’t have to install it. Once downloaded, extract the folder and then execute the application. On win 10 AU 1607 build: You can import or export bookmarks from or to an HTML file without using any third-party software. To do that, navigate to the Favorite Settings panel just as shown above, and you will see a new category called “Import or Export a file.” If you want to import, click on the “Import from File” button, and if you want to export click on “Export to File.” / A TIP \

I would write a program to do this but I am afraid that MS is using some database/indexing method that will screw me up even further.

Hey, I am struggeling with the Edge favorites. (build 1511) I found the favorites in the datastore. I can't make much of what I am seeing there. I see no folders and it's unclear in which folders the favorites go. I have three devices running the 1511 build and synching between them does not seem to work very well. I have put quite some effort in creating a number of favorites in the favorites bar only to seem them deleted for the most part several times now, it really annoys me!

When I import favorites from Chrome they do appear in the Edge browser, but not in the datastore folder you mentioned. And they will seemingly random be deleted in a couple of days I think.

I preferred the previous location of the favorites, at least there one could see folders and maybe organise them that way. Unfortunately sync of the previous folder between devices was a disaster in my case. The favorites in the Edge browser on my devices were not synched properly.

I love Edge's speed and looks but the lack of extensions coupled with this favorites mess is spoiling it for me. Can you help?

Hello everybody,

I have been trying to figure out how to create folders and have favorites in them in the Edge browser. I have a ton of favorites that are organized by folder of what topic they deal with. My googlefu seems to point to an answer of no folders on the favorites bar, just an endless list of items. Knowing Microsoft the way I do this seems very unlikely, my take is that they love nesting.

Any suggestions?

Microsoft Edge now lets you add new folders, drag and drop items from the favourites list and generally sort out the nesting to your hearts content. All this from the dropdown menu icon at the top right (the three horizontal lines).
