I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. as teh title says i am going to install win8.

i currently have steam and origin hosting most of my games as well as guild wars 2.

With GW2 and steam. i have them on a seperate hdd and can simply run the steam and gw2 app after installing win 8 and it will auto update/setup both ready to play instead of having to redownload all my steam games and gw2 game.

Now my question is, can i do the same with Origin? if so, how?

I do not want to redownload all my games again

Answer:About to install win 8 on gaming pc - Origin question

Id totally avoid windows 8, it's a night mare. I got my 40$ refunded from Microsoft through customer support.

My old CPU + MB are finally showing signs of aging on newer games, trying to play things like AoC, Vanguard, and (eventually) Warhammer Online is an exercise in graphical blandness.

I upgraded my video a few months back, but not much improvement, thus I'm thinking it's finally time for a MB + CPU upgrade to match my 8800GT 512 graphics card.

My budget is $300, I have not done much overclocking in the past, but feel that with good online guides I can learn quickly.

With the below being my current system spoecs, what would be recommended so I can see my MMOs in their full glory?

I prefer a resolution of 1280X1024 on my LCD monitor, my understanding is that CPU is the limiting factor at lower resolutions, is this correct?

350GB SATA HD
SATA DVD Burner
Nvidia 8800GT 512
2 GB RAM
Vista x64
550W Power Supply

NOTE: Considering dropping back to XP for gaming purposes

Thanks in advance for the help!

Well, my beloved 19" CRT just died on me... So it looks like I'm in the market for a new monitor.

I am looking for something in the upper quality 22" LCD range.

Through the research I've done so far, I have picked out these 3 monitors that I am leaning towards, but would love some personal opinions from you guys before I go ahead and make a final decision.

Viewsonic VX2235WM
Samsung 226BW/226CW (No clue about the differences between the 2)
HP W2207

The monitor I'm after would be strictly for gaming, so i'm after the best picture/lighting quality I can find. I have read that many LCD's can be a pain when it comes to games with low lighting, so i'm trying to keep this aspect in consideration as well.

Thanks

Answer:Gaming Monitor - Thoughts?

i have the samsung 226bw, its pretty much the best you can get for 22's, i wouldn't go hp, there monitors arn't good. What ever you decide for a good gaming experience you'll want 2ms response and 3000:1 contrast (thats the specs of the 226bw

On friday night i got a new gpu to replace my broken gtx 560ti, the one i got is only a gtx 670 but hay funds are tight.
I thought best bet is to replace the os completly have a fresh start no bad drivers hiding about, i know im using windows 10 (build 1041) on my laptop (as its my development machine and i need access to the emulators that my windows 8.1 home edition does not allow :( ) its been rock solid, ill use that.
for me this was a big mistake, space engineers crashed a few times other games seemed slugish, when i installed the latest drivers i got the new BSOD screen.
My main pc is back to windows 8.1 and running like a slightly old champ again :)
im wondering i was just unlucky, so whats been your experince with games on win 10? (and what gpu are you using)

Answer:Windows 10 for gaming (thoughts?)

In regards to games, I play Guild Wars 2 regularly, and anything good on Steam at the time and it's been rock solid lately, running the latest fast ring build. At first I had the same issues you did, but it's been getting clearer and clearer with each update.

Hi all,

I've been thinking about building a gaming pc for the first time, and was hoping to get some thoughts on this build. I'll be on a budget of up to roughly $1300, on a 1080p TV for a display, and was considering the following:
(PCPartPicker list)

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($189.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($75.99 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($65.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($405.91 @ Newegg)
Case: Rosewill THOR V2 ATX Full Tower Case ($108.34 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: SeaSonic M12II 650W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($95.98 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($14.98 @ Outlet PC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.94 @ Outlet PC)
Total: $1277.10

I probably won't be purchasing much of it for a month or two, so I realize things may change, but I thought I'd try to get as much figured out now as I can. The biggest questions I have are about the CPU, motherboard, RAM, and HDD:

Is it worth the extra cost to get an i5-4670K over the i5-3570K? The reviews I've seen haven't shown much (if any) gaming improvemen... Read more

Answer:Building first gaming pc, thoughts?

I think you should go for the latest Haswell chip (4670K). It has much more power saving features than Ivy Bridge does, and will future-proof longer. Here is the build I suggest:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K ($200 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H ($180 @ Newegg)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) ($70 @ Newegg)
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 ($400 @ Newegg)
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro ($240 @ Newegg)
PSU: Corsair HX750 ($130 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ($60 @ Newegg)

This is a build that will fit the $1300 budget. I can easily trim it down to about $1000-$1200 by downgrading components. This is the cream of the crop, the best of the best build you can achieve right here for <$1500. I recommend the build as is. You may need to add in a HDD for external storage for about $100. Also, at 1080P, you dont really need a GTX 770. You can downgrade to a 660Ti (or the 760Ti when it is released int he coming days). With some price hunting and some more research, you can find deals on components. I can easily get this build down to a lower budget if you ask, so please, tell me feedback .

Hi guys, I'm new to the forums as you can tell by my post count, and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on a decent gaming computer, to run games such as C&C 3 ( and 4 in 2010) CS:S, and maybe even FO3.

I have around ?500 to spend ( monitor is not needed ), I have found a pretty decent looking computer from Staples:
Staples.co.uk Your business partner for Office Supplies, furniture and technology.

Just wondering if this comptuer is decent enough to handle these games, and maybe future releases.
Also could someone please explain what is the difference between Intergrated graphics and dedicated graphics.

I don't have too much experience with the hardware of computers, so building one is off the question.

Thanks QuikR

Hi, can someone please help as EA aren't helping me!

Origin was working fine until yesterday. Then it came up with this error code:

The procedure entry point _except1 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program\Origin\Origin.exe.

So I uninstalled Origin, several times and followed EVERYTHING they told me to do, manual uninstall, do it with no anti virus etc. I even tried to download from a third party website, which did progress more in the installation but still failed with even more error messages!

I have had Microsoft access my computer and they have also tried everything and have confirmed that nothing at all is wrong with my laptop (which is what EA was trying to say).

Its really frustrating now and I hope someone can help please!

I have a Toshiba laptop and I am running windows 10.

It was compatible with windows 10 as it was working for a week or so. It did keep crashing but I changed screen resolution and was fine.

I will appreciate any help, Thanks!

I've got my mind set on buying these parts so you would need a pretty solid argument to get me to change, i would just like to hear what you think about these parts and if theres something genuinely bad about them that might make me want to choose something else.

Keyboard: Logitech Gaming Keyboard G110 - USB - $59.99

Mouse: Logitech G700 910-001436 Gaming Mouse - USB, Laser, 5,700 dpi, Black - $79.99

Well for "real gaming" I couldn't live without my N52 gaming keypad (Seperate keypad for gaming, not a keyboard).

I then have an earlier version of thet KB just for the backlighting but I don't use anyoff the gaming features on it really, but otherwise a decent KB.

Building myself a budget gaming rig.

It will be used for school work, internet, video editing, and of course gaming.
I will be ordering all my parts online and then buying instore from umart.com.au and msy.com.au.

My maximum budget is $1,100. These are the parts:

Case: CoolerMaster Storm Enforcer (SGC-1000) - $93 (MSY)

CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO - $39 (UMART)

Power Supply: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W - $98 (UMART)

Monitor: LG E2211T - $126 (MSY)Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech MK260 - $24 (UMART)
OS: Microsoft Windows Home 64bit - $90 (MSY)

TOTAL: $1089

I am trying to go for a red/black theme. The main thing I'm worried about is the motherboard-RAM compatibility. I'm not sure they will work together.

I'd would really help me out so so so so much if any of you could give me a heads up on anything that you think needs to be changed.

Answer:Mid-range gaming build. Thoughts?

Go with Intel: try to get an i5 3450 if your budget allows it. You'll also need to change the motherboard to a Z77 one. The RAM will be fine.

Would not recommend that OCZ PSU, get a Corsair TX or Antec High Current series one instead as they have much better build quality. 500-600W is fine for your system.

Just a quick question for you guys. I just replaced my DGL-4300 with a WNDR3700. My in-laws gave me their old (still working) ASUS RT-N13U after they upgraded their router.

I also just got a new home theater system. The LCD panel doesn't have internet accessibility, but the BR player and DirecTV HDDVR have ethernet ports. I am considering setting the RT-N13U in Repeater mode and using it with the HT setup as the internet access point. The ultimate setup will look like:

DSL -cat5e-> 3700 -wireless-> RT-N13U -cat5e-> theater components

Any thoughts on this? How much trouble should I have with this setup?

My NE 522 came with Windows 8 64-bit but when I was informed that I could upgrade to Windows 10 for free I jumped on it. I remember having to stair-step to 8.1 then 10 during installation. Everything seemed to be fine for a few months then the BSOD. I managed to get it going again for a short time and now the Laptop is not operational. At startup I get the Gateway logo then a blue screen saying "Default boot device missing..." I get past this using the "recovery" stick I made just after purchase but I get "Choose keyboard layout" then "Troubleshoot or Turn off" as options. I have used the Troubleshoot Path to get to the command prompt. I also can get through POST and access the InsydeH20 startup utility (BIOS) which I use to unfreeze the HDD password (not sure why it keep freezing). Refresh, Reset, Restore and Automatic Repair all fail. From command prompt I access x:\Program Files <x86>> desktop.ini and see one HDD (Boot) with 27.6 MB free of 30.0 MB. I also see the Removable Storage devices.

The top of the command window says "Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]" Does this mean Windows is installed?
If I have lost the OS how should I attempt to re-install, Win8 then upgrade or straight to Win10?

Answer:OS origin for Laptop or Windows 10

AFRet96 said:

If I have lost the OS how should I attempt to re-install, Win8 then upgrade or straight to Win10?

No need for Win8, you can go straight to a clean install of Windows 10. Your successful upgrade from 8 to 10 has recorded a Digital Licence tied to your PC's hardware on Microsoft's activation servers. Do a clean install of 10 (making sure you install the same version as you had before, Home or Pro) and when it asks for a key skip this with the 'I don't have one' or 'register later' option. Once installed your Digital Licence will automatically activate the new install.

FYI I was asking on here as to what power laptop to get (http://0.mk/ef6ee). After much consideration and having owned a Dell laptop before, I plopped for the aforementioned. I am writing this for the benefit of those who are also looking for a performance laptop
This is the exact model I got:
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00x7m13&c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1&model_id=xps-l702x
In terms of first impressions I cant say I have any negatives!

VERY fast laptop (albeit some software I think is limited by the programming rather than the speed of the laptop
Intelligent processor and fans (processor speeds up as required - the fans generally silent unless the processor speeds up - very good)
Long battery life when using it for internet browsing or low intensity 2D work (e.g. microsoft word)
Amazing screen (not the 3D version). Simply stunning. Its NOT reflective (my previous dell was quite glossy by comparison) and the resolution is astounding. Very bright - I rarely have it at full brightness, probably 50-75%
sound quality is excellent. The base is not jaw dropping if you are expecting to nail down your furniture, but when you consider it?s a laptop, it is truly excellent - and very loud.
keyboard is very good. Like the tactile feel (almost a matt grip to it) and doesn?t smear
aluminium finish is excellent
connectivity very good again. it misses a VGA out for projectors. Only has a HDMI port to that end.
Large battery means the lapt... Read more

Ideal for those looking to buy the same type of laptop but at that sort of price you would expect it to be good although that is not always the case.
I usually buy from e-buyer or Amazon but got one from Aldi's last year and not really impressed with that one.
Daughter just asked me to look out for a cheapish laptop that she can get for her son for Xmas.[early shopping but I suppose better spreading it out over the year cost wise.]
I said that he would loose out on the years warranty so I think that may have put her off.

I don't like laptops but if you think she will like it, go for it.
Just one note: the Radeon is HyperMemory. I suppose you know the problems caused by this memory sharing between the GPU and the rest of the system. I don't know much about these Dell PCs. Can you choose the parts (in this case the video-card) or are they standard from model to model?

Does anyone have any opinions on external laptop coolers, whether they be standalone fans or "pads" the laptop sits on? I'm looking at getting a cooler for a Toshiba Satellite laptop that's been running a bit warm and I was looking at some cooling 'pads', like these:

Cooler Master NotePal
Thermaltake Massive23 ST
Vantec Lapcool 4
Antec USB-Powered

Do these cooling "pads" tend to work ok? Online reviews I read indicate they do but I haven't had much personal experience with them.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

Peace...

My wife currently has a non touch screen Toshiba laptop with an AMD 1 gig processor (Didn't realise it was such a low spec machine, time flies in the tech world) and a Surface 2.
Maybe time to upgrade ?
She does appreciate the "Proper" keyboard on the laptop when doing Tesco orders or buying train tickets compared to the Surface 2, but she does tend to use the Surface 2 more for playing music, general stuff etc.
I can really see the appeal of one device especially as my wife isn't the most technically minded person in the world.
She also has a WP 830 and her own Xbox One, so I am minded to consider the Surface 3 and tie it with a Logitech keyboard (With track pad) rather than the Surfaces own keyboard.
I have the Surface pro and the touch pad, but very rarely use it as a serious typing tool, so I don't think that is an option.
Her laptop has a 15 inch screen and to be honest I reckon a decent screen is a good option, the Surface Pro is a bit small when you put a keyboard in front of it and use it has a laptop/desktop.
So what are my options, the Surface 3 or some kind of two in one.
All suggestions welcome.

Answer:Looking for a laptop/tablet, any thoughts appreciated

Surface Pro 3?
12 inch 2k display
Up to 512gigs of storage, up to 8 gigs of ram
It can be a tablet one minute, a laptop the next, and then if you hook it up to a monitor and desktop keyboard you'll have a desktop the very' next minute.
But the 512gb surface pro 3 is quite pricey, but it comes in lower spec'd models

My old laptop is currently non functional, there is no boot activity at all, no post beeps, no screen activity. I've tried it with a startup floppy, no affect, I've changed the RAM modules, no effect. Mains seems to be OK as last time I used it I'd run the battery down about half way, but it's now fully charged. It's been suggested that it's a hard disk failure, now this is not too difficult to swap, but I'm loathe to pay up for a new drive if the existing one is OK.So the question, does this sound like laptop hard drive failure ?

Answer:Laptop boot failure, thoughts please.

If there are no post beeps then I don't think a new HDD will make any difference. It will usually be either the CPU, MoBo or PSU which is faulty. You should be able to get it to beep on post without the HDD installed.

hi all
Having decided to keep my CSc camera and editing raw files, I have exposed the speed / capabilities of my currrent laptop (dell xps i7 (2nd generation) with 8gb ram). Last year I installed an ssd which made a colossal difference but think the processor (i7 2670QM 2.2ghz up to 3.1ghz) is now limiting (possibly the ram too 1333MHz DDR3).
i have a budget of around £1200 max and don't have space for a desktop. I borderline hate dell as I have had two of their laptops, and work laptops, which have all had issues. So would rather not stay with dell.
Any recommendations for that price? I have seen hp 360 and Lenovo yoga as good alternatives with great reviews.
Is an i7 a must or an i5 good enough too? Is 16gb ram key or 8gb enough with later expansion if needed?
thanks

It's got a bad mboard that I can get on ebay here.  US $69.64+US $17.56 shipping___________       $87.20Specs and reviews are here I don't really need it for running Folding @ Home for our Computer Hope team because of the single core Intel Celeron 900 / 2.2 GHz CPU, but It's going in the garbage can otherwise. It's in excellent condition and was rarely used by a friend of mine who I supplied with a replacement PC last year. It would make a [email protected] contribution until I can hopefully find a buyer to adopt it.I don't have much $ but if I can sell it for ~$200, which is $50 lower than the cheapest going rate for this model used on Amazon, then maybe it's worth fixing. Should I repair it or trash it?Thanks for any suggestions!  Mike

Hey guys!Last time I had a thread about re-formatting and installing a Fresh copy of Win7 on a W520 machine. The thread started to touch other regions so I've decided to pick it up where we left it..here. So after reading lots of people's comments & suggestions, I have tried to gather a download list of mandatory drivers for a Clean Bloat-free W520 laptop.  You can check out my list over in this link:http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w273/eladbari/ChosenListofDownloadedDriversforW520FreshInstall-No... Here are my questions:1.  I guess when Win7 launches the first time- it will try to get the drivers on its own via the internet.Should I Allow it do that? Or should I install things manually by myself? [I am not sure if microsofts database could be counted on to fill in the blanks here]... 2. Whats the difference between the "Power manager" and the "Power manager driver" ?Should I even install it at all? Or any other Lenovo tools? Or should I just forget bout it and let the W520 run on full speed [i guess that's what happens if you dont install the power manager]. 3. Couldnt find the right drivers for the Ethernet connection, I have the Wifi drivers but not the physical Lan ones. Anyone?4. Also, I have a feeling I should actually install the Quadro 2000M drivers straight from Nvidia and not from Lenovo. Right?Where are Intel's 3000 HD drivers in this whole story? I didnt see them on Lenovo's site...  THANKS TO EVERY RESPONDER!Your Help is M... Read more

A bloat free system - a worthy goal. If you manage it, I'm right behind you. I would acutally pay Lenovo more to not put the bloatware on it, especially the stuff which loads on startup and slows down the machine, such as intel ATM, all the symantec stuff, autolock (Still havent got rid of this), the poinless "access connections" bloat layer, the disfunctional web conferencing thing, and a boat load more.

Hi there I am having such a hard time with this laptop concerning gaming which is one of the main purposes I bought it for, especially considering the fact it was specifically advertised as a gaming laptop.  The 4K resolution has some serious scaling problems, reducing multiple programs to tiny boxes and things like that. Also apparently the rest of the hardware like the Nvidia Geforce GTX 860M graphics card and the CPU cant even keep up with this resolution which is why while running games at 4K, everything is incredibly slow and the FPS drops significantly. Its just silly. At most all my games I have to run at 1080p for the hardware to kick in and even then sometimes I can't even play on high settings. Like for instance I recently bought Assassins Creed Black Flag, which supports 4K reoslution and of course when I started playing, everything was so slow and laggy even on the lowest possible graphics settings. Once I changed the resolution to 1080p it shrank it down to a tiny size and was STILL super laggy and had a low FPS on high settings. Although changing the graphics settings down to the minumum helped with FPS issues to a 'playable' level, the screen was miniscule and unplayable. I am getting soooo many issues with this 4K resolution thing and im very surprised Lenovo did not mention this and further more label this Laptop as a "Gaming Laptop", as it is seriously turning out not to be and after looking at many reviews into this, a lot... Answer:Is the Lenovo Y50 Gaming Laptop even a "Gaming Laptop"???

Hi, first time Lenovo buyer and have a Y510-59370001    (http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/) Was wondering how to get this gaming ready as my other laptops quickly deteriorated, almost certainly from a combination of poor quality and overheating. Please keep in mind I know very little about computer terms and how to...do certain tasks that might seem simple to everyone else. Although I am trying to learn. So without further ado... 1) Choosing laptop cooler: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-NotePal-Configurable-R9-NBC-8PCK-GP/dp/B003ZMF27G/ref=pd_ybh_1  ... -     this one looks very promising, but should I choose 17 inch with 2 fans, or 19 inch with 3 fans? anyone know warranty for this since I"m buying off amazon? it's actually more expensive from the retailer (checked the site) I only worry about warranty since apparently 5% of these are defective after couple weeks. Also..is this tilted enough to provide enough elevation? Or should I purchase this (http://www.cmstore-usa.com/notepal-u-stand-notebook-cooler/) instead. obviously I don't need to tilt it up that much, but you get the idea. 2) Is anyone else extremely frustrated with windows 8? I'm very much considering switching back to windows 7. Any good reasons not to? 3) Ultrabay, what is it, where is it, does it have extra space/slots? What should I put in there? What's in it already? I'm thinking of upgrading hard drive to S... Read more

Answer:Laptop cooler recommendations and other questions to get this laptop gaming ready

1/ Any cooler will be just fine. For the Y510p I would suggest the Notepal X2 or X3 and line up the fans just below the intake area on the bottom. 3/ In the ultrabay you can place a extra GPU GT750M. Or a extra hard drive or a cooling fan.You can replace your HDD with a SSD. You can use HDD cloning to clone the HDD to your SSD.4/ HWMonitor, HWinfo646/ Laptop bag: get a laptop bag that is able to carry a laptop of 15 inch or bigger. Just get a random one. Bon voyage !

-If replacing everything became too expensive could i replace just the CPU? or the graphics? Or the ram? and make it compatible with what i already have?

- If i replaced any of this, would I still be able to keep all the programs that i already have on here? if so how?

I just bought a new laptop, it's Toshiba L300. I loved it so much, but then I tried to run Sims 2 in it and it's so slow even though I already lowered all the settings, it's still slow. Now my questions is: Can I increase the specs of my laptop so I can play games in it especially Sims 2 and 4?

Answer:Is it possible to make my laptop a gaming laptop?

Laptops are very difficult to upgrade. If money was no object, you might be able to do something, but practically speaking you are stuck with what you have.

There are "gaming" laptops, but they are quite expensive compared to a desktop. And they are prone to high temperatures and expensive to repair.

Does anyone know if there is a way to recover a TOR account that was merged with another Origin account?

Long story short: I had two Origin accounts. One I created when I bought Mass Effect 3, and the other one I didn't even realize I had. Apparently this one was created without my knowledge when I bought TOR years ago. I called Origin to have what I thought was the empty account deleted and they said they could just merge it with my main one. I figured they knew what they were doing, who was I to argue? Sure, I said.

Apparently the "empty" account was tied to my TOR account, and when it was merged my three TOR characters and expansions became inaccessible.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a way to recover the TOR account? I'm shocked they would offer to "merge" accounts without telling me it would delete characters and games. (How is that even considered a merger anyway?)

Any input would be appreciated.

I am trying to play the sims 4 and origin says there is an update but that's about as far as I get before it freezes. I have also tried it on my administrator screen and in safemode with the same results. I am hoping someone can help me.

My son introduced me to Mass Effect, which I was playing via Origin. Then the password would not work, so my son changed it. I got back in and got as far as the financial District in the Citadel, then the password stopped working. I had tried offline several times it did not work.

So I spent an half hour trying to sign into origin under my own name, and it refused me for a long time, so changed my log in and got in. Tried to download a freebie (Syberian 2) to see what it was like and lo and behold, a damn direct x error (this is the millionth time via origin). So I binned that and eventually found somewhere to delete my account , even THAT did not work, so I removed everything I could find in my pc on 'origin' and decided to forget Origin. A waste of virtual space.

Now my question: WHERE can I get a runable copy of Mass Effect (not any of the latest, the original) to run on my pc. Before I lose what little of my sanity I have left.

Answer:Origin (or lack of)

I have not had issues with Origin maybe you should contact EA support. They have always been helpful to me.

If you dont want to try that, try it on Steam

Short version
Cant get Electronic Arts origin to run on my PC, but installs ok.

Long version
I did a cleanup on a PC that could not run EA origin, or sims 4 after all the usual cleanups inc sfc scannow etc, Origin and sims4 work perfectly. While doing this I noticed that EA were giving away full games under their open house scheme, thought this a good idea....so,installed origin on my PC and when I tried to run it I got a white screen with a rotating black circle.....did all the same cleanup procedures, clean boot etc, bit no improvement....

strangely enough, my Son has an identical build PC, which runs EA origin and games without problem. So I assume this is fixable. I also tried a very old version of origin, but it refused my signin....then tried a slightly newer version, but it insisted on updating and the problem returned.

I welcome any ideas.....thought about a DISM check/repair. Have download the ISO image for the creators edition, but the version number is higher than my winver shows, but I upgraded to creator edition, so not sure why. I understand both .wim files have to be from the same version number.....also not 100% how to do the DISM procedure, but may need to learn this to sort out my problem.

thanks

I have written our own little website, which is hosted by our ISP (AOL).

Among the features I incorporated was a guestbook which is driven by software originally supplied by AOL, but the application is no longer available and support for member guestbooks has been apparently terminated.

When guestbook entries are made the following actions are taken, probably standard for guestbook features:

1) an html file within the guestbook folder of the website structure is updated with the entry posted,

2) an email copy of the guestbook entry is generated as a notification to our AOL screen name account. The visible ID on the email appears to be both FROM our account TO our account ([email protected]).

Lately, someone or process has been generating noxious entries; about illicit drugs, sex, or gambling opportunities. I have, by a simple change, "buffered" the posting process by pointing the posting process to one file while pointing the display function to another file. This enables me to "harvest" the innocent entries posted and manually add them to the viewable file.

The question...Can the header information on the email sent as part of the posting process be used to backtrack to the true source of the noxious postings or is that header ID thoroughly hosed for that tracing because it appears to always originate from an AOL server?

Here is the header info from one of the latest entries received:

It finds 6 items in the registry and 1 file under Unclassified.Unknown Origin.5 of the registry keys start with:HKCR\CLSID{6D794CB4-C7CD-4C6F-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C} and the other one is:HKLM\Software\Clasess\CLSID{6D794CB4-C7CD-4C6F-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}the 1 file's path is:C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CBXXQIAY.DLLIt also finds one more registry item under the name of Rogue.Component/Traceregistry key:HKU\S-1-5-21-1777893114-209237723-344832790-500\Software\Microsoft\FIAS4018 This is a problem because SUPERAntiSpyware is not able to get rid of it. SUPERAntiSpyware prompts me to reboot so that it may delete the viruses on reboot but when I run the updates and re-scan the same items pop up. Unfortunately re-installing is not an option anymore so now I am asking for help. If I did not present my request properly please let me know so that I may learn from it since this is my first time posting.other tools that I used are:Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.4.4000Sysclean kaspersky

Everytime I run a SAS scan, it always detects something in one of the registry keys. It's labeled as "Unclassified.Unknown Origin". I don't know what that is. I always let SAS quarantine it everytime it is detected.Exactly what is it, and is it something that I should worry about?? Here's a screen cap below of my last SAS scan...and I have it highlighted so that it will stand out...

Answer:Unclassified.Unknown Origin....WHAT IS THAT?

Hi can you copy/paste that full string out of the log?
Have you run the scan from safe mode to see if it doesn't reappear?

I had a recent attack by something called Vundo, among other names. Very frustrating. I hired an online expert to get rid of it and she did. Now (three weeks or so later) it has attacked again. My McAfee Security Center spotted it and took it down, so I guess I'm okay. The question is, is there a way to find out where it comes from? I do not open unsolicited email attachments, do not go to porn or gambling sites, use a strong password, keep my firewall up at all times, and so forth, so I am not doing something stupid. I do go to a lot of sites. Is there a way to tell which one has this trojan lurking?

I have an infection of unknown origin. Problems just started to appear when I logged in this morning.
Attached are the requested reports from the Preparation guide. (attach.txt, DDS.tct and RootRepeal report.txt

My system was already equipped with AVG antivirus, Malwarebytes, and SpyBot Search and destroy.
However, this morning my computer was acting extremely sluggish so I started Malwarebytes. As was killed as soon as it started. I tired to start it again but is received the windows message stating that I do not have permission to run this program.
The same thing happened with Spybot and AVG.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes and reinstalled. Then I rebooted in safe mode and ran malwarebytes which found a bunch of problems that were quickly fixed.

I rebooted into windows (not safe mode) and installed Spybot S&D. After install it will not run Update. I manually update from safer-networking web site download. Spybot did not find any problems.

Then I try to reinstall AVG free 8.5 (build 409 - 8/7/2009) but I get and error during installation..
Error: Action failed for file avgwdsvc.exe: starting service....
Error 0x8007041d

Then I tried to install 30 day trial of Kaspersky but after installation the software will not run...
From Event Viewer:
EvenID: 7000
The Kaspersky Anti-Virus service failed to start due to the following error:

It's been 4 days since my original post and no one has replied.I ran Trend Micro's Online House Call virus scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and found that I had the PE_PATCHEP.A virus and it attached itself to 2 system files... explorer.exe and winlogon.exeI was able to recovery those files by booting from the WinXP CD and starting the recovery console.Everything is fixed now. AVG installs and runs properly. SpyBot S&D can do updates. If I could only figure out how this Trojan got past my defenses in the first place then I could close that door also. This problem is solved. Thanks to me!

Well,

yesterday i began using google only to notice that when i clicked on any link, it went to a random redirected link where they would be selling something etc.

with that i went to avg and tried to update to test for viruses and the connection to updates was completely unavailable, i uninstalled avg and installed bitdefender for the same outcome.

today to address the problem i went on a forum much like this one and it tod me to use malwarebytes anti-malware, i did this and whatever i have also refused to allow me to even open this.

i then changed the names of all the .exe files in the program folder and was able to open and run the programs, i removed the threats as the forum advised me to do and now when i restart my desktop i am getting recurring svchost.exe application errors.

I attemtped a system restore but it appears to have gotten their to as it assures me that i need to restart my computer which inevitably leads me back to the same error message.

if anyone could talk me through the repair of my pc in terms that i am an outside chance of understanding that would be absolutely brilliant.

forgive my naivety in advance as i may struggle.

For the beta I only needed to remove the special cheracters in the directory name, and for the game itself I didn't have to do anything just installed it in "D:\Program files\Battlefield 3" and it worked~!

Hi, i am new here, sorry if i am violating some rule, but my problem is urgent, because if this problem is caused by my new HDD i need to send it back to Amazon. So, let's talk about my problem:
I have my PC since 2011 and never had problems, in May my hard drive is gone and i had to buy a new one (This: Western Digital WD10EZEX Caviar BLUE 1 TB), yesterday i was downloading a Linux distro using Internet Download Manager, i went to the kitchen and when i back to the PC i had a BSOD, i thought it was only a case, so i just rebooted and tried to download again and no problems. This evening, i was download a game in origin, happened the same thing but i forgot to make a photo... and now i am here, someone can help me?

Attacched you can find my log, thanks in advance.

I Have 3 partitions in my HDD (4 if you include Windows extra partition with 100 MB) 1 for Windows, 1 for Linux Mint and one for general data

Answer:BSOD While downloading (Don't Know if is due to origin)

There are no dump files.

Follow these instructions and choose Small Memory Dumps.

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Make sure you don't use any software cleaning programs like CCleaner for the time being as they can remove .dmp files.

Check in these directories.
C:/Windows/minidump
C:/Windows/memory.dmp

Minidumps can be compressed in a zip file after being copied to the desktop then uploaded to Seven Forums directly.

Kernel Memory Dump (memory.dmp) requires being uploaded to a file sharing website like OneDrive.
Then post the download link in your next reply.

I'm using uBlock Origin, it's light and simple to use. I used in the past all of these adblocker and I think uBlock Origin is the Best. What is your favorite ad blocker? The light is more uBlock Origin also in your opinion?

Answer:uBlock Origin Vs Ghostery Vs ABP

I have mixed experience with uBlock O. Not all pages render properly. ABP works fine out of the box. Ghostery is not an ad blocker. You can use some of its features but basically obsolete if you are using an ad blocker already.

ABP is a bit heavier than uBlock O but then again, hardly noticeable unless you running 10+ tabs and have a mid end or low end system.

Ghostery I would just steer away from it, plain and simple, due to their policy (google it for more info).

Voted ABP based on 3 options above.

My friend and I were having a discussion where most viruses come from. He for some reason believe that 80% of computer viruses are perpetrated by AntiVirus and computer companies to fuel their next product, whereas I believe it's sad lifeless basement hermits with nothing better to do? Does anyone know where most computer viruses come from... I've searched on the internet but it onl;y gives vague answers...

Answer:What is the origin of computer viruses?

Hello bud,
REAL Computer viruses are designed by crafty and extrememly smart people. They are released to gather information on other users and to sometimes steal credit card info/ personal i dentities. I don't understand why people do it. But they do, and we have to protect ourselvres in turn.

Hope this helps,

Does anyone use Origin? Tonight got an update to the client and now getting a no disk error relating to having a card reader installed on my system. Workarounds are unplug the reader (not an option as mine is internal) or keeping an sd card plugged into it so it's 'live'. Second option avoids the issue but not ideal as don't want an sd card plugged in all the time just in case that could interfere with system booting or cumulative updates. Anyone noticing this? I posted in EA forum but though I'd post on here too. I use Steam and Battle.net too and no such problems with these clients. All these clients including Origin are installed on my secondary internal mechanical hard disk (I: drive), the letters in between C and I are assigned to the memory cards and bluray drive

Hello all, I have a question on ublock origin's possibly new filter.

In the image below all the little icons (on all my websites) are not just little blocks with some letters inside the block. It is not too bad as I can hover my mouse over the icon and get a balloon tip as to what the block is, just wondering why this was done, as it did not use to do this and I have used uBlock Origin for a long while.

Any thoughts?

Similar performance. Just a matter of chipset preference. Intel/nVidia or AMD/ATI

Although the intel build has a better audio chipset.

Warranty should be the same for both, so it boils down to brand preference and/or price.

Question: Gaming Laptop

Guys,

Can anyone tell me how good this GPU is for gaming laptop, what its expected performance in games. Can i run BF3 on high for example:

GPU: 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660M

I'm struggling to find any information on the internet such as reviews and comparisons especially FPS?

Thanks.
Never.

Answer:Gaming Laptop

You should compare the laptop to the system requirements of any game you want to play. It's always a good idea to buy above the minimum, as high as possible, so that the laptop will not be obsolete when the next games come out.

But laptops in general are not meant for gaming. They are designed for portability and low energy use. Some exceptions exist, like Alienware and Origen PC.

Answer:gaming laptop

NewCents05, that computer is great. But a AMD Alienware would own that. An AMD 3800 would out peform that LGA775 at gaming, needless to even say FX-55. Another thing, that video card is only a X800. You can find X800 XT or X800 XT Platinums at Alienware, or any other gaming brand.

Its beatable, but still very good.

Answer:need help with gaming laptop

Not the best to answer this (hence why I'm scanning beginner forum), but as no one has. Everything looks good except the graphics card which is integrated with the processor. I found this doesn't work as well for gaming as it causes issues when the processor is working hard and trying to do decent graphics.
That said mine is not as good (cheaper and a year old) but I still think get a discrete graphics card.
Quick scan of ebuyer came up with the below for £630. Not sure how the processor compares and the screens smaller. Its more for comparison as it was the first on the list.

Samsung SF310 LaptopIntel Core i5-480M 2.66GHz
4GB RAM + 320GB HDD
13.3" HD LED
NVIDIA GeForce 310M
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Lastly without expert knowledge shopping for a discrete/integrated card is pretty hard as they are often not very clear in the description

Hey I'm looking to buy a new, mid range laptop for gaming. Mainly just LOL at the moment and I know both of these would handle it fine, but I'm wondering which would be the best performing laptop, so if anyone can help me out that'd be cool.

#1 - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=540174548

Cpu- ? Processor: Intel Core i5 Gen 2 2467M Processor (1.60GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.30GHz,3MB L3 cache, 1333FSB) (duel core)
Ram- 10gb
Graphics card- Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce GT 640M 1024 MB Dedicated Graphics, supporting Microsoft Direct X 11

#2- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=539786297

Cpu-The Lastest 3rd generation Intel® Core? i7-3612QM Processor 2.10 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz (quad core)
Ram- 16gb
Graphcs card-# NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M -1GB Dedicated Video Ram

Basically #1 has the better gfx card, but it is only a duel core with a worse processor. Either one has more than enough ram. I'm wondering if laptop #2 with the better processor, aswell as being a quad core, will out perform #1 when it comes to gaming even though it has a better gfx card due to it being a duel core with the worse processor.

Any help and advice is appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Which laptop would be better for gaming?

Both of those graphics cards are low-end and pretty lame, so you won't be going much hardcore gaming.

Option 2 is better for you, though, IMO. I think LoL is more CPu dependent.

Question: Gaming Laptop

Hello.
I need help choosing a gaming laptop, and I'm wondering if any of you could help me please. I have been looking at Dell Insprion or HP. I do not know a lot about laptops or computers. The reason why I have gone for games on laptop instead of a desktop is because I just do not have the room. I know the biggest issue with the laptop is the heat. Well, hope you can help :). Thanks.

Answer:Gaming Laptop

What games are you talking about and what is your budget.? Remember a decent gaming laptop does not come cheap.

Question: Gaming Laptop

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a new gaming laptop for about £800 and so far i've come across these two systems.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-062-AC
&
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/range.html?t=nb&c=gaming&r=X55
Now the version from Overclockers seems to have everything i want while the one at Novatech will need an OS adding to it and the hard drive upgraded which will cost another £100 on the listed price.

So as you can see the Novatech system will cost more but thats not what i'm really fussed with, I want to know which system will be best for gaming and video editing. If you have another system that you think i should look at then please link it.

Thanks guys. MDK.
