Is there even a single Windows 8.x tablet w/ T-Mobile-compatible mobile broadband?

Question: Is there even a single Windows 8.x tablet w/ T-Mobile-compatible mobile broadband?

Looks like none of the existing or announced (CES 2014) tablets support T-Mobile mobile broadband. Modems are locked to AT&T, etc.
Am I wrong? I'd like to get a Dell Venue 8 Pro, Toshiba Encore, Lenovo Thinkpad 8, ... with T-Mo mobile broadband. Will it be possible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Is there even a single Windows 8.x tablet w/ T-Mobile-compatible mobile broadband?

Is using the Internet Sharing on your phone not an option? I would like to have a tablet with data built in, but it is too expensive for me. I have unlimited Internet Sharing through my phone for $30/month.

I recently purchased a Thinkpad X200 Tablet computer (model 7449-44U) using Windows 7 and would like to upgrade it with an internal WWAN card for use with Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband (in the USA).  I am not very knowlegeable about WWAN and need some technical assistance in making sure I order the correct WWAN modules. I am interested in the new Qualcomm-Gobi 1000/2000 mini card modules that are reported to include standalone GPS capability as well as supporting a wide range of RF bands for global connectivity.  Please refer to the attached product sheets for more info on Gobi 1000 and Gobi 2000 modules.http://www.gobianywhere.com/files/gobi1000_overview.pdfhttp://www.gobianywhere.com/files/gobi2000_overview.pdf I have contacted Lenovo sales and technical support and was told only WWAN card that is compatible with both my X200 Tablet and Verizon Wireless is P/N 57Y4485.  see attached verizon data sheet.http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?... This data sheet has no information about any GPS capabilities. Can someone confirm for me that ordering this will get me an Ericsson F3507G?  I have been told from our I.T. purchasing that it will be an Option card and he can get it cheaper and install himself.  I am trying to replicate a previously purchased unit  that is out in the field, for testing. Thanks

Answer:X200 Tablet with Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)

If you are configuring that in the online store, the "Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)  [add $80.00]" will be the F3507G, unless there has been a recent change. Amazing if your IT guy can go through the purchasing cycle, install, and test, for less than that.

So I have received my SIM card from Telenor, I have found the SIM slot behind the battery. I have rebooted the machine. Under networks I can see Mobile Broadband, but its Verizon? they are not even present in Sweden. I seem to have a working GOBI 2000 driver installation. Have anyone sucessfully managed to get Telenor Mobile Broadband working using the built in support for 3G cards? If so, I would very much apreciate a detailed description on how to you did it and what you had to install to make it work. Thanks,Joakim

Answer:Using build in Mobile Broadband with Telenor on X201 Tablet?

Hi joakimi, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

There's a knowledgebase article on that, just substitute the APN settings which Telenor give you:

Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

Answer:X60s - Is the built-in 3G mobile Mobile Broadband adaptor locked?

Go to ebay and buy unlocked mc8755 for lenovo. It is about $25 buy it now. I bought two, problem solve.

I purchased a HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k111nr Sleekbook that came with T-mobile Mobile Broadband for 2 years from the Microsoft Store two months ago. When I clicked 'Internet Access', there would be a 'Mobile Broadband' option for me to choose and select the T-mobile Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately, that has not been appearing since the last few days. I checked my hardware and it appears that there still is a 'Smart Card' but with no information regardin it. I also checked the HP Support Assistant and HP Utility Center but they had nothing. I have tried removing the card and placing it back again. The computer emits the sound that recognizes new hardware but no installater comes up Searching forums, I tried downloading the HP Connection Manager, but it failed to install when an error message ' NO WWAN' came up I also downloaded and reinstalled the latest Mobile Broadband Drivers but nothing happened. In fact, I suspect that it maybe the new updated drivers that caused my T-mobile SIM card to be disabled. I have tried calling HP support but they cannot help and demand payment for 'advanced tech support' when my Laptop is still under Warranty. I tried calling T-mobile, but they said that it was a problem that I needed to contact HP for. I contacted Microsoft that said I need to get in touch with T-mobile. The second call on HP, they told me to contact T-mobile, One big circle. TL;DR: I need the installer for my T-mobile SIM Card, mobile broadband... Read more

So Windows 8 doesn't work on my Edge E530 with the Ericsson mobile broadband. At all. There are no drivers listed under the Windows 8 option in the Drivers section. The Windows 7 drivers worked for W8 RTM Preview, but they don't work for W8 Pro as released. There is a bug in the "Known Issues for Windows 8" concerning enabling mobile broadband in the BIOS, but I checked and there's no option for that. Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation says there's no supported wireless drivers, the Ericsson drivers install without errors and my drivers screen looks like this.   I'm just so darn tired of this computer costing me money and time to fix.

I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my X1 Carbon, and it does not detect mobile broadband - the "Networks" pane now shows only the switch for Airplane mode on/off and a list of available WiFi networks, where previously it showed a list of available networks (when outside my home  country) or "Macheen" when at home. Hello Everyone,
I am unable to install word mobile on my Lumia 640 XL LTE running on windows 10 mobile. I had actually installed this app (word) already but the had to change my memory card. After inserting my new memory card, i am able to re-install almost all of my apps except for WORD mobile.
I keep getting this error - Couldn't install. We'll try again later - The error code is 0x80073CF6. Please note, excel app was also throwing the same error but upon trying 3-4 times, it got installed. But, word is not installing at all - have tried installing at least a 100 times. Restarted by mobile at least 10-15 times.
I know a hard reset would solve this problem for me but I am not ready for that yet! Thanks!

I just learned that this is even remotely possible, so I would like to make it work. I'm on a Lumia 950XL (not Insider) and would love for the Mobile hotspot to automatically turn on when my phone connects to my car via Bluetooth. I want it to turn on because I have an iPod Touch in the car (that is always connected via USB to the car) for music playback. I would like that iPod Touch to be able to stream Spotify and use my 950XL's hotspot for the Internet connection. Is this possible?
- My car does not have Bluetooth music streaming, so this is why I have to depend on the iPod because my car does have iPod integration (ugh)

My laptop is Compaq V3906TU with windows 7 pro.

I have a problm with connecting to internet via my mobile broadband. It's been around a year since i installed this win 7. But somehow, lately it takes random time for it to hang when connected to internet via mobile broadband. It's weird since it worked fine for months, but suddenly this hang comes. My modem is Prolink. At first i thought it was because of pc manager from prolink, so i tried to set up the network directly from network n sharing center. But the problem stays.

I always update windows n antivirus (AVG). It keeps me wonder if this problm comes from virus or spyware or any other threads.

For notes, i dual boot my laptop with XP n Win7. It works absolutely fine in XP. Any suggestions?

Regards
Ragonz

Answer:Windows 7 hangs - Mobile Broadband

Hi everyone,
I am running windows 10 pro and now i want to update my system using "Windows Updates". The problem is that Windows Update is showing numerous new updates for the system but i have a mobile broadband (ie. usb dongle type) for internet purposes over which i want to download all the system updates. but the updates wont download maybe because Windows 10 has set this connection type as 'metered'.
Whats even worse is that the metered and non-metered choice is greyed out and i cannot change it. I then tried the command prompt method described on this site. it momentarily does change the mobile broadband connection as 'Unrestricted' but STILL windows wont download any updates over this connection .

I want to know HOW to download updates through Windows Update application using my mobile broadband connection.

Does any one know about editing the relevant registry entries to force Windows use mobile broadband for Windows Updates?

PS: I dont have ANY other source of internet ie. Wifi or Ethernet.
Thanks

Answer:No Windows Updates over Mobile Broadband!

The simplest solution is going to SERVICES.MSC
there locate Windows UPDATE
right click and set the service from MANUAL to DISABLED
Now there are no updates (until you switch it on again)

Also the STORE is disabled

Good luck

My father uses mobile broadband (he usually buys a 3GB package) on his Windows 7 laptop, he has reserved the Windows 10 upgrade (well I did for him...). I was just wondering out of curiosity, is there a way to "stop" it from downloading automatically so he can use my home broadband for the upgrade?
The only thing I can seem to think of is turning off automatic downloads for windows update (IF that will even work...).
Does anyone have any other suggestions or is this a possibility?

Answer:Windows 10 reservation and mobile broadband.

Your idea may work.
Not sure if this link helps but just have a look. Metered Internet connections: Frequently asked questions - Microsoft Windows Help
You also can cancel the reservation and wait till (a few days) after July 29 and then download the update at your place. (guess your dad can wait a few days more)

When using Ethernet or Wi-Fi I have no problem, but when using an HSDPA USB modem to connect to the internet via mobile broadband (dial-up) I have the following problem:

Windows Update can "check for updates" and lists pending updates without a problem, but will not download anything (starts downloading but stops at 0% with error 80200011). Internet works fine otherwise (e.g. Internet Explorer, email etc).

I am using NIS and have tried disabling this but it does not help. When booting in Selective Starup (no startup items, Microsoft services only), I can connect to the internet (dial-up manually or automatically via IE default connection and get local and internet access status), however I cannot locate any web sites (e.g. Google), so suspect there may be some issue with DNS or some other configuration setting for this connection.

Can anyone please help? I bought a Vodafone mobile broadband dongle and was happily going about my business with this on pay as you go.One day I chose to download some Windows Updates, nine of them I believe including Windows Live and Internet Explorer 8.After the downloading process I was asked to restart my computer but I hadn't closed down my broadband connection when I did this.At this point my Windows Vista Business computer failed to restart and relaunched in safe mode.It then wouldn't start up again properly, also taking me back to safe mode.I figured it was the mobile broadband dongle that might be giving my Acer Aspire M1640 a problem so I removed it and sure enough the computer works fine.I still have access to internet through a dial-up modem but every time I've put the broadband dongle in again it's failed to find an internet connection and caused the same problems with shutting down and starting up.I've uninstalled the Vodafone programs and the assoicated drivers but haven't tried installing them again.Should I do this or is there some other problem? Also wondering about the Isatap adapter issue I have regarding Code 31?

Answer:Windows Update killed my mobile broadband

Have you tried uninstalling the Windows Updates? Not all updates are beneficial and some can break existing functionality.

I had started a thread here a while ago regarding usage of a mobile broadband like 3g/4g to receive windows updates in Windows 10. Mobile broadband seems to be disabled, but the service provider (Tekekom) is shown. Also, I do not see any quality bars: http://www.img-host.de/bild.php/57745,clipboard01ZXCTG.png ("Funk aus" means "radio disabled") My Device Manager shows "SIerra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE". Version 2.5.10640.4317 is installed. M.2 WWAN Firmware Updater shows: Home Operator: Error!Country: GermanyHome Provider: 26xxx (total of 5 digits) Firmware: FIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1442.07IMEI: 01xxxx..... (lots of digits) What's wrong here?

Answer:Windows Update problem with mobile broadband

Hi -

Most likely it is NIS causing the problems as usual. Simply disabling Norton does no good because the boot and kernel mode drivers continue to run.

Remove NIS with the Norton Removal Tool. Download it to your desktop, right-click on the icon and select Run as Administrator. Upon completion, re-boot.

NRT - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe

Next, reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply (if hi-lighted) | Click OK

Norton or Symantec anti-virus is just fine. But not the firewall. In the interim, use AVG 8 for a/v protection -

Please let me know how you make out.

Hello and welcome,

I don't know the details of your machine, sorry.  Have you actually installed the mobile broadband card?  I mean the electronic module (mini PCIe), not just the SIM.

The way I read the specifications for your machine, it may be upgradeable to mobile broadband, but it is not included in the factory configuration.

Hi all

I wonder if somebody have faced the same problem of mine and can provide me with help.

My problem is that when I start to use the Internet throw my device Huawei E1820, at the beginning every thing is fine and all good, no problem with surfing the net . But the problem begin when I start downloading file or movies. After a few seconds of downloading my system freezes and I can do nothing with my laptop. I have to press the power button to shut down the system and start it again.

I used the same device on another laptop and ther was noproblem at all. This is really annoying me. Because I've just bought this device to benefit from its speed and unlimited download.

Note: when I use home wireless nothing like this happen.

Hope that I can get help from you guys =(

I have an HP EliteBook Revolve 810 G1 Tablet with an inbuilt HP hs2350 HSPA+ Mobile broadband module. I have an 3G working SIM inserted. This was working very well with WIndows 8.1 and I was able to connect to internet easily with it and use this as a broadband connection. I recently installed Windows 10 64 bit as a fresh install. It recognises the HP hs2350 HSPA+ Mobile broadband module and installs a generic driver fro the same. The SIM card and mobile service operator (Vodafone IN) is also recognized and I can see a full signal strength. However when I try to connect to internet through WIndows 10, it does not work. The error message is " Cant Connect to this network.  Enter an APN and try again " In the "Cellular" under advanced settings, I have configured teh APN as per settings provided by the service provider (esp. APN name "www") everything else as default. However when I connect to the internet using this it gives me this error message mentioned above. The SIM card is worknig adn when I connect it to an Android phone it works very well. However when I connect my tablet using windows 10 it gives me an error. I reached out to Vodafone and they tried out quite a fe different settings but their inference is that its a Windows 10 issue. Can you please help? Parthesh Gulawani

I run Windows 7 64bit os with an Orange high Speed (!) mobile broadband dongle (515m).
The software (Internet Everywhere) stopped working months ago and after much arguing with Orange, they admitted that it was a software compatibility problem with my os but promised that an update would be coming soon. They gave a workaround which meant the dongle worked on dial up (with associated speed).
However, after waiting months for the update, it's finally arrived but it still doesn't work!
Just like the last software version, after installing it clean, it crashes at start up and won't operate.
Last night I had to stay up hours to roll back my system to get the dial up working again as it prevented that from working too.
I'm really sick of this and Orange's response has been woefully unsatisfactory, bordering on insulting. The latest gem was to uninstall everything internet connected then download the software! How? This has been pretty much the level of response from Orange. I'm about ready to cancel my contract with them for breach of contract.
Any ideas anyone?

Oh, my laptop is an Acer Aspire 7540.

Answer:Orange Mobile Broadband 515m Dongle not working with Windows 7

Hi, not sure if this is what you meant by the workaround, but I had the same problem and solved it by manually configuring a dial-up connection with windows using the number *99#
The software started crashing whenever I started it and, much like Orange have now pointed out, I suspected it was some sort of conflict with Windows 7. Initially the only way I had to get round it was constant system restores whenever the problem started, but that wasn't practical. The manual dial-up seems the best way I have found so far. The speed and service using it this way appears to be the same if not better than when using it with the software.

Answer:Lenovo Mobile Broadband Connection Driver for Windows 7 - ThinkPad x200 5NG

you will want to check whetner there is a physical card installed. the x200 does have the card slot, but that does not mean that wwan card is installed. and even then ,its also not confirmed whether you have the wwan antennas installed. you will want to check your windows device manager and make sure you have a 3g modem listed under network adapters. if you dont, the card is unlikely to have been installed physically.

For basic functionality, you'll probably be fine.

Then follow the instruction on my first reply, this should sort it for you.If anyone is helpfull, please click the 'Vote as helpfull' icon.

When i installed a trial certificate from verisign it said my certificate was invalid. I know i have to transfer the certificate to the smartphone but should i have my domain instead of the defaul.local setup as my actual web dns domain name?

The laptop has recently had a major problem and the software has been returned to factory settings a number of times. So I don't know whether a driver is required and it has not been put back on or whether the laptop is just too old? Thanks Extin

Answer:R50 - mobile broadband?

hey extin, welcome to the forums.hard for me to say if a driver is needed or not. The unit of yours, is it running on XP on Win7 ?If it is on XP, a high chance you may need a driver. I would then suggest that you get in contact with the mobile broadband vendor and check with them.

Hi and welcome there.. i heard not about the first time this question.. Al what i can say is the best compatible WWAN card is the SE F3507  ...and not all cards will work overall (different / newer Card-Firmware) even when you buy a Lenovo card (used by some thinkpads/S10 with 3G/S10-2 with 3G)
second is more difficult have to disassemble your Ideapad ... you need to install a antenna in LCD frame (loose warranty)...
and the third barrier is under windows till now not correct working scenario (even with the actual drivers) ...
Hints for try out upgrading/opening S12  here in this part of forum ... same for tryout upgrading wwan card...

Question: Mobile broadband

I bought a Lenono Thinkpad Edge E530c and would like to use the internal 3G mobile connecting. I inserted my sim into the sim slot under the batery compartment but its not working.  It looks like the drivers are missing. When I start the Mobile connection app it give me "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found." When I go look in the device manager I cant see any modems installed. So how do I make use of the 3G sim slot to connect to the internet? I also downloaded some bluetooth / modem drivers for my series but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Answer:Mobile broadband

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad E530c, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Answer:GPS without Mobile broadband

Not all cards are supported and may need to be unlocked, see related threads on this.  May be easier to use a USB GPS device while not using your minutes.

Question: Mobile broadband

Hi By default the Mobile broadband card in my X301 is turned off. Is it possible to turn in on by default when Windows start ups

Answer:Mobile broadband

It has to be mentioned as matter of disclaimer really since this forum is innundated with users who mistakenly believe they're x was GSM / CDMA equipped when they notice the SIM card slot under the battery. Most X's have the SIM slot but this seems standard regardless if the user configured or will have it installed. Assuming you spec'd your for the card and aren't being hopefully confused by spotting the slot....1. Check your BIOS setting to ensure the card is enabled2. check devmgmt.msc for the WiFi or "MobileBroadband" category since the category isn't standard and verify the card is properly installed and enabled / if it is then verify in the cards Advanced properties to ensure the OPERATING SYSTEM DOESN'T TURN OFF THE CARD TO SAVE POWER !!!! Still failing then contact tech support or reply with the rest of the story and whatever inordinary things you've done to this thing because the manufacturers and cellular providers along with Lenovo's group have worked extraordinarily hard to even COOPERATE IN DETERMINING CONFIGURATION AND RARE FOR  SO MANY THINGS TO COME TOGETHER SO WELL IN LAPTOP AS DO BROADBAND CARDS. The cards monthly subscription costs and cellular usage penalties has forced them to behave so cohesively when delivering the option since the type of person who buys a broadband card expects it to work and work out of the box. If you could take an official or even unofficial survey of what kind of hardware failure makes end users and prosum... My T430 has a blank sim card. Where do I purchase a sim card that will allow me to use Lenovo Mobile Broadband Service? What kind do I buy and what can I expect to pay?

Hello, I purchased a T400s in the UK which came with a Vodafone SIM inside it for mobile broadband. However, due to some error, this SIM never was activated and I can't use it. I'm wondering if I can purchase a mobile broadband SIM from T-Mobile (or indeed anyone else) and use it with integrated SIM component of the laptop - does anyone know if this would work just fine, or would any hardware or software modifications be required? (I have a clean install of Windows 7 on the laptop.) Thanks for any input, /vijayan

Answer:Mobile broadband SIM

Will work, if you will have SIm card with 3G activated. If you have model F3507g, then this is Erricson hardware and if you are not fun of Access Connections tool of Lenovo (i do not use this tool), then i can recommend you simple tool directly from Ericsson http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/mobilebroadband/download/wirelessmanager/gc83?lc=en&cc=us

I'm looking at setting up my laptop to use in the field. As a penny pinching hate waste type of person the best deals really do interest me.I have had the provider 3 suggested to me as the best deal on the market but am woried if there is a trade off here by way of coverage? ie. has 3 got a good country-wide network set up?Are there any other considerations I should be taking into account?Regards Gemma (pgj)

Answer:3 & mobile broadband

I would be interested in peoples observations as well.At present I'm on T-mobile web and walk with Blackberry 8800 (it is not 3G and has low modem speed) which works well when there is coverage. Occaisionally I have driven around chasing signal or at popular festival events due to increased phone traffic.Personally i would give 4 out of 5 for flexibility and coverage whilst with price of package only 3 out of 5Philip

I phones 3 connect support and they were uselss. When I looked into device manager, and click on the icon (which has a ! on it) it says:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).

It wont auto load and im getting pretty fed up. Please can anyone help. I am thinking I must have deleted some drivers, but when i select 'update driver' it says that my drivers are fully updated.

Question: mobile broadband

HiI'm having a problem with mobile broadband on our x200 laptops After a period of use the HSPA Mobile broadband becomes grayed out. On investigation it seems like the entire ericsson network adaptor has been removed as it has gone from device manager and it re detected . Reinstalling the driver makes no difference . The wireless and Lan connections are not afffected . On rebuilding the laptop the network adaptor returns so it does exsist on the laptop This is happening over multiple laptops . We have a locked down user profile so users would not be able to removed the hardware . Has anyone seen this before ?? Peter

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I will be moving from the rented house I've been in for 21 months into a new house in the next couple of months. The house is a new-build and I will obviously not have broadband to start with - don't know if I'll have a phone line straightaway yet. I am trying to work out the best way to get online during this time.I am in the UK.

I went in to an O2 shop today and they were trying to sell me a dongle which cost £20 and then £2 a day, £7.50 for a week and £15 for a month. This would get over my immediate problem of geing broadband-lacking when I move but wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a dongle with x amount of Gbs (to be decided) which doesn't have clock running on it. So, after I've stopped needing it at the new house, I could take it out and about with me on my laptop whenever I wanted and when it ran out I'd top it up.

Does such a deal exist and, if so, what size in Gbs would be OK? We use aroung 10Gb per month on average but that's with the kids looking at YouTube, using iPlayer a bit so assume that just a bit of surfing would need less? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Mobile broadband Pay-as-you-go?

Hi,
I use '3' mobile broadband all over UK. £10 per month, 1gb which is plenty for an hour or so a day surfing plus emails.

I think in a new build you'll soon have utility providers beating a path to your door!!

Question: mobile broadband

Hi all, i am a first time user to having a laptop, i want to get broadband for it and it to be pay as you go, what do you suggest. also someone told me a can connect it to my desktop broadband, how would i be able to do this if so it wouldn't be mobile would it?. i'm with virgin with my desktop computer.

Answer:mobile broadband

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)

Hi.I have a lenovo thinkpad x201t 2985-DMG which was delivered with win7-32.I have reinstalled it with win7-64bit. I have not yet got the touch to work. But more troublesome is the GOBI2000 mobile internet. I use Access Connections 5, and I set up a new location profile. When I press connect it takes a while then it says:'SIM card is not present. Insert the SIM and try again.'I have tried with two different SIM-cards which works in other machines. Do I need a driver for the SIMcard-reader or could mine be broken?

Answer:No mobile broadband.

You did try inserting them the right way? It happened to me once - I was inserting it wrong side first

Question: Mobile Broadband

Hi,Slightly hijacking the thread...I too live in a rural area (Ewelme in Oxfordshire). Our problem is that the exchange is the other side of the Thames and the Council will not let BT place more cabling over the bridge or under the Thames - so some users have Broadband others do not (only at 1mbps).Mobile signal is atrocious indoors, can barely get a signal and 3G is non-existant. However, outside and a few yards down the drive 3G kicks in.Therefore my question is: Is it possible to get a High Gain aerial and have that connect to the 3G dongle to access a better signal inside the house? If so, does anyone know how, and which equipment is required?I work in Kent and really would like to be able to work from home occasionally to avoid the 200 mile round trip every day to the office.ThanksJ

Answer:Mobile Broadband

Don't think there is any way you are going to get it, until Gov makes a move on all UK being able to get BB. This they are wanting to do. And charge everybody for the extra installation. About £6 to £8 a year. One of the things they are doing is laying Fiber Optics in Sewer Pipes
