a program failed to load but left write protected files

Question: a program failed to load but left write protected files

I have a bad partial installation of Avira in win xp. I can't reinstall it or delete the files manually because they are write protected. When I remove write protection from a file or folder it is reset. Any idea

Preferred Solution: a program failed to load but left write protected files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

failed to load locale files from "Program Files\Western Digital\WD Smartware\Locale"

The menu box it's under is entitled " WDContextMenuHandler "

I get this error when I just right click on any part of "my computer" everytime.

the pc then goes blank on desktop while it says " windows explorer shutting down " and then pc comes back. I tried to uninstall WD smartware but it won't allow me to. When I installed it the first time, all the menus were not available, so I uninstalled it, so I thought, and reinstalled it. Now there are 2 WD Smartwares shown in my programs and I can only get rid of the newest one. I also tried a system restore, but the date before the first install is not available.

any help.

Use Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled and see if you can uninstall it cleanly. If you are unable to uninstall the phantom version still lurking, you may have to re-install and then use the Fix It to uninstall properly.

I have just reinstalled Win 7, and am installing all my programs. I am installing an older small calendar program from Softkey, and had it installed previously, but now on installation, it reports the location is write protected. Can't seem to find the fix, but I'm sure someone out there knows the answer.

thanks in advance

Answer:hd reads as write protected on program install

You speak of User Access Control. This is a default setting of Windows 7 on installation.

way easier than typing it all out.

HIJACK THIS:
Try not to reboot
Currently the Spyware identified by the security experts and especially the morphing and breeding .exe`s in the new variants of CWS, after every re-boot required by Ad-Aware and Spybot etc, just spawns more and more files for the poster to find and delete. This is making the advice the security experts give just too hard to follow.
One of the security experts recently had one log with over a hundred files, they guy had to format c: drive.

Download and copy hijackthis to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.

Note the Spyware tools websites are very often under attack and so I have provided more than 1 location to download from:

http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/downloads.html
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/
http://www.sherrylynn.us/privacypolicy (this has an older version 1.97 - if you can get to other sites)

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”.
Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad.
Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

I have a question as I have purchased The Tornado(tm) and transferred all the files from my old windows xp laptop to my new vista 32 bit laptop such as homework, excel files, music, photos, etc. If I try to edit anything it says its write protected and cannot be saved. Is there anyway to un-write-protect all the files that i have transferred? I have googled this question but to no avail. I would really appreciate the help if anyone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks!

Answer:Write Protected Files

Hello pest, welcome to TSF

Have you tried either

1. Right clicking on the files and unchecking the 'read only' box
2. Saving the file under a different name

Hi,

I'm trying to use Tag&Rename 3.53 to organize my MP3s on Windows 7, but I am unable to edit some of them because I get the following error:

"Disc is write protected or file is busy by another application."

The only difference I can find between the files that I can edit and those I can't is that if I right click and go to Properties => Security, the second entry under "Group or user names" is "Account Unknown" whereas with files I can edit the entry is "Joe (Joe-PC\Joe)".

Please can someone suggest what I can do to make all my MP3s editable?

Thanks,
Joe

Answer:Problem With Write Protected Files

Sounds like you need to take ownership of your files (sounds silly, I know). If you already own the files, you'd think you wouldn't have to take ownership of them! But, sometimes that is the case.Try this. You can do it manually by going through the Properties > Securities > Advanced > Owner > Edit > but that registry hack I found will probably do it faster.Try selecting all your MP3's then do the "right-click take ownership" on all of them at once (to save some clicking). I cannot guarantee it will work, as I have not tried this myself. If this does not solve your problem, you might have to manually add yourself to the list of Permissions that you saw for each file (let's hope not!).Let me know if it works.

Hello all,

I have a hard disk that I took out of a computer that failed (MB). The disk has all my addresses on it in an address book for Printmaster. Unfortunately I never backed it up. I put this drive into another computer as a slave and was hoping to get the information off of it. Every time I try to move the file or copy it or open it with the program, it either tells me that the file is in use by another person or that the file is write protected. I have tried to change permissions and properties as the administrator and the folder the file is in keeps geting back the read only attribute. So I cannot import to the program. Both the old drive and the new drive have xp professional on them. Any help or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Reentering all that information would be very time consuming and I would lose some addresses. Thank YOU

Ken

You could try booting up with a Linux Live CD.

Linux Mint 7 works well for me
and displays everything on my computer and all drives connected.

Just a thought.

I decided I needed to completely format my hard drive. I took my files containing word documents, tax records, mps's and most importantly...all of my family photos. About 800 of my family photos are on this DVD+RW disk and it is now the only copy I have. I was able to copy my tax records and word documents to "My Documents" folder. However, when trying to copy over my valuable photos to "My Pictures" folder, it tells me that these are READ ONLY or WRITE PROTECTED files. Please tell me there is a way to get these photos back to my hard drive. Thank you for any help and/or advice you may give.

Answer:Solved: Problem With Write Protected Files

Sounds like these files were moved from a different computer and for some reason aren't picking up the default permissions.

Easiest to Set permissions on the folder they are in, and force the permissions on all the file/folders in that folder.

Right click the folder that contains the files
Click Properties
Click the Security tab
Click the Advanced button
Click the Permissions tab if not already on that tab.
Click the Change Permissions button
If your account is not listed, click the Add... button
Type joe, then click Check Names - this should change it to Joe-PC\Joe
Click OK
Check the Full Control box in the Allow column
Make sure the Apply to: drop down shows This folder, subfolders and files
Click OK
Check both of these boxes:
Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent
Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permission from this object
If the Unknown Account appears in the list, highlight it and click Remove
Click OK
Click Yes
Click OK
Click OK

I open Publisher files (that I have created on my computer) and when I go to close the file, I get a message stating: 'The disk you are trying to save to is write-protected. Make the disk read/write or use a different disk.' Then it wants to save the file under a different (temp) name. Tells me to close Publisher and reopen and rename. I can't rename. I've tried opening various Publisher files and it's happening to all of them. I click on properties and it doesn't have a check mark by read only or hidden. I'm operating on Windows XP using Publisher 2003.

Thank you

Hello,

I am running Windows XP SP2 and Trend Micro Office Scan is identifying the trojan file TROJ_BZUB.FB, alternating between activedsf.dll and wsil32.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32. Simply deleting the file(s) is impossible; stopping the associated processes before deletion hasn't worked either. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I have been running Windows 10 since launch day and today I started having a problem with all my data files being write protected. Everything was working the last couple of days but today my Quicken data file and all my files in the documents folder are write protected and they will not let me save them after changes. The only thing I changed today was to activate one drive. I have since disabled one drive but continue to have the problem. I was able to create folders off the root for my updated files as a work around but I would like to resolve this issue ASAP. I am logged in as an administrator. Please advise.

Hello. I keep getting "Data Restore" type scans/errors for the hard drive, similar hard drive errors pop-ups, as well as "Delayed Write Failed" for "file \system32\0000390c corrupted or unreadable" error messages that pop up about 20 times when booting Windows 7. As a result, I can't load anything from a regular windows 7 boot. No IE, no antivirus, my whole desktop is blank. I also can't access (or see) anything in the C: drive as it is completely empty....moreso, everything in the Start Menu is blank like it has been removed.

Tried to boot in safe mode with rkill (and even renamed rkill) and follwed with updating and running MBAM to no avail. Here are the DDS and other logs needed.

At first, I don't need to recover my data, I just want my drive back to re-use it.
How can a format my usb drive including all boot sectors which sees to be locked/write-protected by bitlocker?

My problem starts with decrypting my drive by deactivting bitlocker on it by entering the valid password/recovery key. At 36% of decryption the process halts without reason. Now, I'm unable to access my drive or resume the process.

I tried...
    ...to format with windows
   ..remove with diskmgmt
   ... remove with diskpart
   ... repair-bde
   ... manage-bde
   ... ubuntu live cd
... mass production tool software, to override the whole stick

nothing worked. The only thing which worked was once the software M3 Bitlocker recovery Free, but just one time to access the locked partition. But, as mentioned I don't need to recover my data. With that tool I'm not able to wipe the drive.

That Bitlocker protects my data till the end is good, but that it breaks my data and my hardware in such a case is not fair.
How can I break the write-protection mode to finally wipe the hard drive?

New dv6-7000 laptop (Win7 64-bit) has a problem I can't seem to solve:  When using any SDHC memory card you cannot write or erase files to the card.  You can read the files just fine, but you get a "Write Protected" error when trying to write or erase.   The card is, of course, not write protected, and can be written to in several other laptop/desktop SD drives that I've tried.   And I've tried different brands/sizes of SDHC cards.  Smaller capacity regular SD cards work just fine.   I tried removing this device and rebooting to reinstall the hardware, but no help. The Realtek SD Driver shows as version 6.1.7600.16385 in Device Manager properties, dated 6/20/06.  HP's support site shows a newer driver version 6.1.7601.29005 dated 2/24/12.  When I download and run sp56166.exe to update the driver, it seems to go through the update process successfully. But the driver still shows as the older version in Device Manager.  And, of course, the problem still exists.  Any ideas would be much appreciated!  Hard to believe that a new dv6 laptop can't properly write or erase files from High Capacity SDHC memory cards.   Thank you!

Answer:dv6-7000 can't write to SDHC cards ("write protected" error)

I understand high capacity SD cards return the message they are write protected in your system.

I take it the write protect switch is in the off/disable position on the card since they work in other systems.

What is the product number?

NOTE: Do NOT provide the serial number.

What brand and model is the SDHC card?

My McAfee virusscan detected the [email protected] virus. I'm unable to do anything with it (delete, clean, quarantine). I get disk is write-protected error. I try to browse to the directory it's in and I can't see it. I've changed folder settings to show hidden and system files. I'm running XP and still can't see the folder it shows up in. I've run viruscan in normal and safe mode. Still can't do anything with it. I've included my Hijackthis log.

Answer:[email protected] and disk is write-protected error

You are using an old version of Hijack This. You are also running HJT from your Temporary Internet Files folder. It will not function properly from there and it cannot create and restore backups from there. You need to create a new folder in My Documents and name it Hijack This. Now Click here to download Hijack This again. Download it and click "Save". Save it to the Hijack This folder you just created. That way it can create and restore backups if needed. HJT will store the backups in the same location that it is run from.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log. Click "Save" to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.

Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I was fooled into clicking on a link in an email and it opened a download window (save / open) I believe it was a ".zip", but not sure because another window opened over it (before I did anything)saying something like the "location not available", I clicked "OK" on the second window and both windows closed. I checked the download log on Firefox (I was using web based email) and it didn't show any download, I still didn't feel good about this so I ran a "Quick scan" usning Avast anti virus. It came up with no infection but had a list of files, about 85 of them, it could not scan becasue "archive is password protected" in "c:\$Recycle.Bin\". I checked the Recycle Bin and could see none of these files listed. I emptied it... Ran another Avast scan (Full system) and it didn't come up with anything.
I ran Malwarebytes, both Anti Malware and Anti-rootkit, both come up clean
I ran RogueKiller and when it finished, it came up with a couple of things in the "Processes" tab and I clicked "Delete", "Fix Host", "Fix Proxy", "Fix DNS" but didn't realize I needed to check the other tabs, and didn't, so I don't know what else it may have found (I may still have the logs). After that first time running it, each time I tried to run it again, it froze on "dllhost.exe" when it was in the "prescan" mode. I finally got that to stop by deleting it and re downloading it (I have no idea if that was "virus" related or just a bug).
And, every time I open it, I get a pop up that says "Your version is o... Read more

Hello,
I am unable to write/modify/replace files in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders, we have folder that is placed in Program Files folder, lets say MES folder
we use Active Directory System and all user take file from FTP server if there's Program's Update from System that I make, so new file/files will replace old file/files in MES folder, it was work smoothly in Windows 7 Pro, but not in Windows 8.1 Pro
the things I already do was :
1. Change User Account Control Settings to Never Notify (lowest)
2. Turn Off Windows Firewall setting (Domain, Network Location, Public Network)
3. Change advanced security add local user for Full control, modify, read and execute (to take ownership and grant full control permission of the folder and all contents in it)
I Know from forum it must be about user security issue but this 3 steps still not change anything
How can I defeat this?

Many thanks.
Regards
Michael H.

TDSSKiller will not detect it, our enterprise software will not remove it but will detect it (McAfee), MBAM doesnt see all of it and Sophos AR doesnt see it either.

Combofix WILL get rid of it but not just with a normal click and go.
To get rid of it I have had to completely disable my AV software (I mean totally, disable it from the virus scan console as well as disable all the services related to it)

Make sure you have AT LEAST combofix version 11.11.29.4. If you arent sure of what version you are running, right click on the file and click properties and then the details tab.

Save combofix to your desktop.
Create a new txt document called CFScript.txt
Open this new document and type in:

ClearJavaCache::

Extra::
This process should remove the rootkit and unhide all your files as well. I have tested this on 3 machines now and all have tested clean with MBAM, McAfee, Panda, AVG and Avira.
If for some reason your files are still hidden download and run an application called unhide.exe

I spent 3 days trying to figure out how to get rid of this once and for all without having to reimage. Hope this can be of use to someone else.

How do I give C:\program file write permission, one of my programs Bootvis (see earlier posting ) needs this to run properly

Answer:Program Files Write Permissions

Try going My Computer then C Drive then Program Files right click on the Bootvis folder and if it says Read only untick this and let it set this attribute for the folder contents. Do the same for the Bootvis.exe in the folder as well. If not its a registry setting.

I think a securty update that was downloaded recently is effecting some software I have. I have a program that sits in the Program Files area and one of the folders needs to be read/write since other computers in my network are accessing the data file inside here- however, when I go into the properties Read Only has a green marker in it. I uncheck it and a dialog asks something like "This folder and the ones under it?" Which I agree to. However, when you go back and look at the properties the green marker is back as read only. How do I fix this issue????????

Answer:Read/Write in Program Files?!?!?!?!

Sounds as if there are permission levels set for the folder you are talking about. To change the permission level you must have the authority to do it of course and this link will help you define what to set it to.

I have a program files directory on my e:\ that I use to install most of my applicaitons to as it is much larger than my c:\ partition.

However I cannot write or delete anything from this folder now, and I cannot open an application I have been using for ages either, and this is how I noticed it. I have scanned my machine using Panda Titanium 2007, Adaware and AVG anti spyware, and nothing suspect shows up but I presume it is something malicious.

Has anyone got any ideas? It is only this directory that is giving me trouble and today is the first time this has shown up. I am logged in as the same profile I always use.

Trying to install a .jar program. At the installation path selection stage I get the message 'This directory can not be written! Please choose another directory!' when I try and proceed. (This is when saving in Program Files. Googling has led me to believe it is something about not being an administrator - but there is no option to 'Run as administrator' on this file. What should I do?
Also, I have tried saving it in My Documents instead (not sure if this is a good idea?) and get the message 'The directory already exists! Are you sure you want to install here and possibly overwrite existing files?' which kinda puts me off.

Answer:Installing software - cannot write to Program Files directory

I'd make a directory in documents (or somewhere else in your user directory) called "My_Jars" or something and save it there.

You don't want to save it in "Program Files" as most likely it will try to write stuff to it's own directory and you won't be authorized unless you run it as Administrator which you may not need/want to do.

Don't be tempted to change permissions on "Program Files"

I have my 2 PC's networked in a Homegroup. 1 is running Win 7 Home Premium 64, the other Win 7 Ultimate 32. I want to write to the Program Files folder on the 32 bit system from the Program Files (x86) folder on the 64 bit system. All other read/write operations between these 2 systems are succeeding. I have set up full permissions on both Program Files folders exactly as with other folders: Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Share this folder > Permissions > Full Control for "Everyone". I suspect UAC may be intervening. Is there any way to defeat this? My final objective is to automate synchronization between a few selected areas in these Program Files using my backup utility, SyncBackSE. It kept failing based on access denied, so I tried to drag & drop manually via windows explorer, and this is also not allowed. Please don't focus on questions about SyncBackSE - I am seeking help getting permission to move & change files via explorer. Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer:Can I lift permissions and write to Program Files via Homegroup?

Hello,

SyncBackSE is a very useful tool. I use it myself.

Have you tried specifying the username and password within SyncBackSE so that it uses an Administrator account on that machine? Do you 'run as Adminstrator'?

I used an Android Emulator called Jar of Beans. I saw that it had put an option in the notification tray settings for me to show icon and notifications etc. I didn't want the program to do that, so I deleted it. The problem is that the program doesn't have an uninstaller. It doesn't show up in the uninstall a program area in Control Panel. It still shows up in the tray option as shown below. What should I do?

Answer:Left over Program Files or Registry Entries?

Okay so i was wondering why after i uninstall a program for instance "Yahoo! Mwssenger", after the uninstall is complete if i run a "search" there are all kinds of files left behind. Then if i try and remove them manually some say "cannot read" or "you don't have permission".

I guess what i want to know is, what is the best way to remove a program without leaving any files behind or am i just going to have to live with the left behind files on my pc?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Thanks for any help.

Hey all,

I am having an issue with a Western Digital 320Gb SataII drive that I purchased a little while back. The store I purchased it from insists that there is nothing wrong with the drive, but I think there has to be?
The first time it happened, I was downloading files from a P2P application. Failed to write to disk on the partition and something along the lines of G:/$mft kepy popping up(I guess to do with the boot table on the disk?). Figured that there was just an error, so I ran a chkdsk, but it didn't find anything. I rebooted the comp, and tried chkdsk again, but this time it couldn't access the partition. I had a couple more errors or problems with it (tried partition magic, but that wouldnt even open because the partition table was screwed up or something), so I decided to backup and then format the partition. Great, everything eventually worked again, and I copied everything back.

A couple of days later, I was copying some files over, and I had the same issue again, random popup saying something like "failed to write to disk - delayed write failed" and then my system crashed and I rebooted. Couldnt access the partition when I tried to chkdsk again. However, I still cannot find any bad sectors on it when I finally managed to get chkdsk working again (after a couple more reboots). It also took me three reboots/tries to get an image of the disk because it had problems reading it.

Is there any way I could convince the retailer that there is s... Read more

Answer:Failed to Write to Disk - Delayed Write

Well what you need to do is get a copy of Diskeeper. Go to www.diskeeper.com and get a trial version. Then you open that up, and analize the drive your having trouble with. Soon you can go into your options and run a program in there called Frag Shield or something like that. That will change your MTF size to a proper size (Cheoose Recommended settings) and the problems will go away. I had the same thing happen to my old 250 GB drive. But that should take care of everything.

Cross posted in Macrium Reflect forum:

I have a Samsung EVO 840 128GB SSD and I am trying to clone it to my new EVO 850 500GB drive attached to my laptop via SATA-to-USB cable. The 128 is my C: drive with WIN 7 pro and some programs. I made an image first and stored it elsewhere first . I get the message in the title about 20 seconds after starting clone process. It's the first time I've encountered an error cloning a drive.

Last week I cloned a HDD to another EVO 840 without issue, but it was in a second bay in that laptop.

Would I be better served pulling my D: drive temporarily and putting target SSD in that bay and cloning then? Or restore image I made to new drive?

Hey guys,
Is there a program (like Magic BIOS from Epox) that will load a new BIOS file from within Windows? I have a floppy drive solely to load new BIOS' and that just sucks. Anyone got a good proggy?

Thanks

Answer:Program to load BIOS files?

considering that flashing the BIOS has the potential to disable my computer
up till I replace or reprogram the EEPROM (which Id have to send out for)
I always flash from DOS with the appropriate manufacturers flash utility
(Award, AMI, Phoenix) and Dr DOS which lacks any memory managers like himem,
that can potentially corrupt the flash and has been specifically built for BIOS Flashing

in addition I employ IOSS's RD1 BIOS Savior
something Id highly recommend to any one that is modding BIOS

Hi - Can anyone help? I'm using windows XP and I?m having a few issues with Roxio's drag to disk on my CD-RW discs. I?m trying to copy some files onto disk to save them (they consist of .doc files and .jpg / .bmp). I can copy them onto the CD-R discs no problem but when I try to copy them to the CD-RW ones I get the error message ?CANNOT CREATE OR REPLACE ?FILENAME?: ACCESS IS DENIED. MAKE SURE THE DISK IS NOT FULL OR WRITE-PROTECTED AND THAT THE FILE IS NOT CURRENTLY IN USE?. Can CD-RWs be write-protected? If so, how do you un-write-protect them! I have tried formatting the disk to no avail... I'd be very gratefull for any help. Thanks*jo*

Answer:Write-protected CD-RWs?

You could try this freeware, but it will only run if you have .network installed click here, usually formatting it solves the problem, or it may just be a rogue disc so try a different CDRW first.

I tried to save some photos onto new CDs and DVDs both RW from folder in My Documents and sending to C drive.
I get the message that these are write protected. Meaning the formatting is missing? No message to say so.
Can anyone resolve this please?

Answer:Write Protected New Cd-rw & Dvd-rw?

What is the exact message you are getting. It may refer to the images you are trying to burn to disk. In which case right click on the image file and select properties and see what is checked there.

Also if you are using rw cds you may need to format them first. Your authoring software should have an option to do this.

I'm trying to format a toshiba 30gb hdd (MK3021GAS 9D)connected to my laptop via a usb hub. When I first connected it, and tried to find it in Win Explorer, there was no sign of it.In device manager it told me that it was "not initialized", and a similar message in Everest.Taking this to mean that it needed formatting, I've downloaded the HP USB disk storage format tool, but after about 30 secs it tells me that it is "Write Protected".There are no jumper pins to change as far as I can see, and in my laptop bios I can find no mention of any "enable write protection" or anything that refers to similar.I have got external devices in my boot list, but I don't think that's relevant.Any help gratefully received.John

Answer:Write protected usb hdd

While waiting for replies, I opened windows explorer, and there it was as drive E and told me it needed formatting. This was xp asking if I wanted to format it.So it is now done, and being used !!!I think this ight have been a case of saving the unchanged bios settings, as mentioned in a previous enquiry along the same lines last year. All's well that ends well.John

Answer:HD write protected

Hello rscadden!

This is unpleasant. I hope the following would help you.

1. Type cmd in the Start Menu
2. Select Run as Administrator
3. You should now see the Command Line Utility
4. Type in DISKPART and hit Enter ( here the values associated with your USB drive could be changed)
5. Type LIST DISK and hit Enter
6. Type SELECT DISK and the number of your drive which is write protected and hit Enter
7. Type in ATTRIBUTES DISK and Diskpart gives the information you need about your drive
If the first line is written as Current Read-only State: Yes, then the drive is write protected.
8. To remove the write protection with Diskpart, type the command ATTRIBUTES DISK CLEAR READONLY. If it works, it should be confirmed by the line Disk attributes cleared successfully.

Good luck!

Hi, I have a problem with a brand new USB stick, PNY 64GB I bought on e-bay about two months ago. It started working properly, I transferred on it about 20GB of my photos. I did not notice anything weird. The pictures were there and I think I could even move them on and off, like copying and deleting. After few days, when I wanted to erase them, there was a message that the device is write protected. USB? There is nothing to switch it for write protection like on SD cards, for example.
From that moment, the device once was recognized as inserted in the PC, other times it was not. I could not delete the images, I could not format the device and even the KillDisc software, after running nearly 5 days without a break could not sort this out. There was an error message at 99% of process and I could do nothing else than to skip it, which resulted in the problem persisting on the USB.
Now I cannot even view the files, despite after this treatment I could have seen them few days ago. The files, after I clicked on them, showed mostly unaffected photos in the views, but when I wanted to see any particular photo, all of them appeared to be damaged - there was a grey area on the majority of the photo, just a thin area of the original picture could be seen on the top of the picture.

I have contacted the seller with this problem and they offered me the refund or replace, even assured me that the item will go to the manufacturer.
However, I guess that there are phishers outside j... Read more

This should be easy to do with WinXP Pro. Right-click the drive and select Property, followed by choosing the Security tab, within which you can modify the level of protection you choose. WinXP Home, on the contrary, lacks this feature. However, you can still bring up the security tab when you boot up into the Safe Mode

1. I put 6 songs on there, and when he went to play them, only two of them were on it, why is this? They were all in MP3 format.

2. I removed the two songs that worked, and then when I tried to remove the four that didn't, it said it can't be removed because it's write-protected? What the? So I tried putting the two songs that worked back on, and it wouldn't go on there because it says they were write-protected? How do I fix this?

Hi,
I have a Sandisk cruzer blade 8 gb pendrive, when i used to create a bootable usb using windows iso tool an error occured and its showing write protected while formatting. I have tried almost all the ways to format but nothing worked.Hoping a solution.[IMG][/IMG]

Answer:Pendrive Write Protected

My Cruzers are write protected, and I think it's done in hardware. Mine have a little OS on them that asks for a password, then unlocks the drive for use. For security reasons, I think that lock/unlock is implemented in hardware. I wasn't able to partition mine either.

Thumb drives are cheap these days. Just pick up a non secured one to make a bootable drive.

I run Millennium Edition with Mcafee Antivirus and firewall. I have downloaded a Hijackthis log but do not know how to forward it to you or save to a file of it's own. Help Please

Answer:Write Protected Disk

Hello vikinguy45 and Welcome to TSF!

In order to try and solve your problem we will need to see your Hijack This log. Please follow these directions:

Please download the newest version of HijackThis here- http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Afer the scan is complete, if you chose number 1, a notepad document will open automatically, or if you chose number 2, after you click 'Save log' a notepad document will open. While holding 'Ctrl' (the control button) press 'A' and it should select (highlight) everything. (If it doesn't click 'Edit' -> 'Select All'.) Next, again while holding 'Ctrl' press 'C'. This will copy the information to the clipboard. Now go to this post and click 'POST REPLY'. Now, again while holding 'Ctrl' press 'V'. This should paste all of the information into your post.

Let us know if you're having any trouble getting the log posted!

Hey,

After EVERY boot since installing Windown 7 64 (previously on Vista 64 with no issues), slave hard drive goes in to read only mode..
After EVERY boot, I have to use diskpart to clear readonly status.

While diskpart sorts the isse on a temp basis, its a real pita to have to do it on every boot. Any ideas on the cause of this issue so it can be resolved once and for all??

Thanks.

Answer:Slave HDD Write Protected

Copy everything you need off of the drive to another one. Format the drive to NTFS using "quick." Replace files and folders on the drive.

That's the quick and dirty way to proceed on this one.

Before you format and after you copy stuff off of it though, open an elevated command prompt. Type takeown /f D: and hit enter. Change D to the drive letter of the HDD. See if this fixes first.

Answer:Write protected after sharing... help!

Vista right? It's super annoying.
Happened to me too.
Right click on the folder/drive

Click Security

Click Advanced

Click Owner

Click Edit

Click Other Users or Groups

Click the person you are trying to change ownership to, under the Change Owner To: dialogue

Click the checkbox replace owner on subcontainers and objects

click okay.
This will take some time, but will replace you as the owner on all your files. Vista's been doing this with all my external USB hard-drives. Heck it even did it to my games drive which is an internal hard-drive after I reinstall. It's making me crazy. I've yet to figure out how to turn it off as I'm still a newb in the Vista OS, but the steps outlined above have been around since Windows 2000.

Good Day,
First off, I apologize if this area is not the appropriate spot for this topic. I recently purchased a 4 gig Sony MS pro duo from flea bay. I suspect the card is a fake, but the real problem for now is the card is write protected. As the stick has no mechanical write protection switch, I was hoping that someone with experience with memory sticks might have a solution. The fact that the stick may be fake does not bother me as much as the fact that I can not write to it. Thanks kindly
