I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Outlook replaced hotmail a/c not able get hotmail a/c opened

All Hotmail accounts were closed down a long time ago, shortly after the switchover to Outlook.comMicrosoft sent all Hotmail users an email which explained how to transfer existing Hotmail messages over to before a certain date.If you didn't do that it's too late now. Your Hotmail account and all messages in it have been deleted, and Hotmail no longer exists.message edited by phil22

For the past week, since 8/18/2004, E-mail that I send to Yahoo and Hotmail via Outlook Express 6, is being delayed. It is only certain addresses. It is taking up to 2 days and occassionally there is a mail failure. Hotmail sends me messages that the mail is being delayed and not to resend, but the recipient never receives it. My E-mail address is not blocked. When I send via internet, all is well. I have no other problems sending or recieivng to others.

Any thoughts?

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook 2003)

I was using the older version of Outlook Connector to access my Hotmail account, but recently it said that I needed to upgrade it. The automatic upgrade did not work properly, so I manually removed/un-installed the old Outlook Connector, removed the hotmail account within Outlook, and I also removed a bunch of hotmail.ost files hanging around that seemed to have no data in them (in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) - I believe they were formed when I was going through all the problems with the supposedly automatic upgrade).

Then I manually downloaded and installed the newest version 14.1 for 32-bit and through the Outlook connector interface within Outlook, re-added the Hotmail account. But now when I try to click on any Hotmail folder, the following error message appears:
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

So I feel like I am back at square one and not sure how to get the Connector to start connecting. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Hotmail Connector unable to connect to Hotmail

Amazingly, I finally found the answer in another forum, of course only after I went to the trouble of making my earlier posting.

SETTING THE HOTMAIL ACCOUNT AS THE DEFAULT EMAIL ACCOUNT solves the accessing problem. I hope this can help some other poor souls out there!

I know some people have multiple hotmail accounts that they want to sync up with Outlook, and have no idea what to do in that case, but if you only have one account, this seems to work.

Hi everyone

I tried to use Outlook 2002 to access my hotmail. I used the POP3 settings, got it to work, and hit send/receive. Now none of my emails from my Inbox are in my hotmail account when I use my web login. Why did it do this and how do I reverse it? I tried to find some answers on the Microsoft site but they give pretty generic answers there. The answers I've got here in the past were much better.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Hotmail + Outlook 2002 = no emails at Hotmail site

Try going to Tools > Email Accounts > View or change existing accounts > Select your account and click Change > Click More Settings > Advanced tab. From here there should be a check box that allows you to set whether you want your emails to be left on the server.

Here's how you add your Hotmail account to your account. I don't know if you'll get your messages over or not. They're two separate accounts that can't be merged.

I removed Outlook Hotmail Connector because I considered it bloatware. I don't use Hotmail. I use a hybrid system involving Outlook for my computer and Gmail for my Andriod phone and that is working fine.

After removing Connector, I kept getting a message from Outlook about installing the "upgrade" Hotmail Connector. As I was having the red x problem with graphic images not appearing in my Outlook emails, in despair I allowed it to load. The real fix came through as SP2 after I repaired Windows Update and got it working again.

So, is it bloatware? Is there a downside to removing it? Is it benign enough to just leave it alone? What would you do?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Answer:Do I really need Outlook Hotmail Connector when I don't use Hotmail?

Hi there ... I think you have answered your own question .. I would tend to leave it alone it is not doing any harm

I've recently changed over to Hotmail as I wanted to be able to access my e-mails from any PC. The only annoying thing which dooesn't appear to be available is an automatic notification when someone opens an e-mail I've sent so that I know they've at least erad it In other applications I've used this was available as an option but doesn't appear to be with Hotmail. Can I set something up e.g a header with a click here type thing that sends me a message when someone opens an e-mail?

Hotmail Inbox indicates there is a message with attachment, but when I open the message, no attachment is available.

Answer:Hotmail Inbox shows attachment; nothing there when opened

If all email attachments don't show then check your settings or contact hotmail. If it's just from one sender the problem is probably with them.I had that problem for awhile with AOL and picture attachments I sent from my phone. As I recall the problem then had something to do with the switchover from alltel to verizon.

If you are usiing OE also go to it and export your address as an .csv file then go to this url and import them to your new hotmail account.

I am having some trouble with my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. I can open mail in Yahoo but can't delete it. I can't even open any email at Hotmail. It seems when I click on a button online the browser doesn't go anywhere. I tried various things suggested in this forum but nothing seems to work. Please help me. My computer is working great now that you guys helped me last week. I am extremely grateful!!

Answer:Can't delete Hotmail or Yahoo mail and can't open Hotmail

Lots of people have problems with Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The most common causes seem to be cookie rejection, incorrect firewall settings, and/or an overly aggressive and intrusive firewall like ZoneAlarm that does a lot of things without asking.

Are you able to access the email accounts from a computer at another location? (other house, library, etc.)

Did you recently change any settings in a program or install a new program or a new version of or update for one, especially some security program (firewall, antivirus, etc.)?

Do you have a router?

Is your trash folder overfull?

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

4. Whichever screen I receive- whether I input scrambled letters yet again or insert my name and password the process repeats itself and one of two things happens:

Answer:I can't acces my HOTMAIL account- Hotmail Tech Support?

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.

I have a Windows 10 phone (Verizon 735), a couple of Windows 10 laptops, and annual Office 365 subscription. Just a home user and have all my Contacts/Calendar in Outlook, but don't have an Outlook email account....just AOL accounts which I get via Imap/Pop.
In past, I setup to sync across laptops and phone but sketchy at best. Just got notifications to "Re-connect Outlook 2016 ". Deleted old Outlook account and added new account....tried no hotmail this time. Outlook came up great...only 1 calendar!!!!! However nothing syncing with phone. Assume still need hotmail?
All I want to do is have my Outlook contacts and calendar synced with all my devices. Assume this should be very basic as guess all this is on "My Cloud"? Also, should be the minimum if Windows phone has any chance. Appreciate any help.

I had several hotmail accounts that I could view in the Nokia 930 windows 10.
I have not installed any apps (however there wsa an app that I do not know what was doing there with the text showing @\user\microsoft\windowsapp\ etc. the text was longer an I was not able to remove the app)
However the problem of the emails did not arise after the above app was mysteriously installed but happened before.
It looked like that one specific account was inexplicably confused with another email account...e when I was tapping on one Icon app of hotmail account I would actually read the email of another account.
My main Email setup account within windows phone setup had disappeared and when trying to re added it was saying that it was already setup.
Therefore I could only but hard rest my phone. I have hard reset it four times now and every time I setup the account with my main Email account everything is fine but when I add another email account it all goes wrong with similar variations of the above issue and now I even have an error message saying the account the I added
Now I am getting has the settings out of date. I tap FIX button there is some activity but nothing happens.
How can I fix this!!!

I have been using BT for my emails for years now and never had problems using their for web-mail and outlook 2007 on my computer. Following BT not using yahoo anymore and now just using BT Mail I installed the Hotmail Outlook Connector, so I can use as web-email. I created a Mapi account in Outlook and copied all my contacts into it. I also created some additional send/receive e-mail addresses in, they are BT sub accounts. They are showing up in both and outlook 2007.

Answer:Outlook 2007 not sending mail after installing the Hotmail Outlook Connector

If you have installed Outlook connector then you are not using via webmail but are using Outlook 2007 for it. Webmail is through your browser. You should not be having any problems sending via the browser. You can also log into BT using the browser and send.
But coming back to your original problem I'm not sure why you set up a MAPI account or how you did it and the problem may well lie there. Suggest that you delete the hotmail/outlook account in Outlook and start again. You can back up the received emails first. The account should be an Exchange Activesync type.

I mainly use Outlook 2000, however, in order to get a number of Hotmail messages onto my computer's HD, i synchronised Outlook Express with Hotmail. I now have messages from a folder I have on Hotmail on my hard drive too.

A search revealed that this folder (and presumably all messages in it) is stored under C:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{00B31680-0793-11D3-A398-C0610D677E39}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

I copied the .dbx file named hotmail - [folder name].dbx to my desktop. I went in to Outlook 2000 file>import blah blah blah, but it wont let me import .dbx files there anyway to get my messages from hotmail from this specific folder into outlook 2000? i no longer need the folder in hotmail and will just delete it as soon as i have a permanent copy on my hard drive in outlook 2000. im assuming that since the dbx file is on my hard disk with all the messages (which i can read offline in outlook express) that i wont need to set up outlook 2000 for hotmail synchronisation ?!?

I'm a Hotmail Plus (is that the right term?) user so I'm paying for expanded service. It's been fine for nearly a year now, but recently, my connection has been shaky - sometimes connecting, sometimes not.

Now, I can't connect at all and I get the following errors:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC0D) : 'The server could not be found.'

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC19) : 'A timeout occurred while communicating with the server.'

I did some trial and error work and realized that the problem is with the URL I'm using:

This address must be incorrect because when I put in "" instead, it allowed me to get through but only once. That means that the issue is not with my Outlook.

Is there another address and is anyone else having issues with the above address?

What else could be wrong?

Outlook Mail that I send to is rejected. Any ideas Thanks

Answer:Outlook & Hotmail

Not enough information. Are the rejected messages to yourself or other folks? What error messages are you getting? Which version of Outlook [part of Microsoft Office]? Or is "Outlook" referring to [successor to]? That's becoming quite a common issue thanks to Microsoft's propensity for confusing things by using the same name. Are you including attachments that may be too large for the recipient's ISP rules?

Question: Outlook (Hotmail)

Everytime I click on the Outlook (Hotmail) icon in the Bookmarks Toolbar, the login page stalls/lags for a good few seconds before opening. I've tried deleting the bookmark and re-bookmarking the website without change.

Occasionally I receive a flag (pic attached), "Unresponsive Script". I always click on, "stop script". Doesn't seem to make a difference either.

Is there something I can do to correct the Outlook (Hotmail) site from being "unresponsive"?

I've been using Outlook on the old computer for years to access Hotmail and my regular earthlink account. Just got a new computer and I can't for the life of me get it going correctly.

I've got it set up under view with Folder List, Preview Pane and Auto Preview. When I click on hotmail, inbox, it sort of comes up in the upper right corner, then the address bar goes to some redirect and flips back to my regular email, THEN finally hotmail opens up. It works but it's the most irritating thing you can imagine! Any folder under Hotmail, goes thru this redirect process.

I've tried looking at the old settings/old computer vs this one, and can't see any difference. I have XP pro on this computer, Home on the old one, but it's the exact same software for MS Office Outlook.

Another thing, how the heck do I get the email to sort by date instead of one big list?

Thanks ALL!!!

Is anyone familiar with Microsoft's new cloud email at

While I have a hotmail a/c I would like to have a second but don't want to risk the primary hotmail a/c being removed (it's too well known and I'd need time to advise of change of address).
However, if I could start a new a/c: [email protected] then I could gradually work on switching my contacts to the new address.

Does MS intent to retain hotmail or will it become obsolete as the new system takes over?

I got a quick question for you all' I had a friend call to tell me about how Microsoft is getting him to do this 2-step verification code. And from what I gathered he doesn't have much of a choice but to do it. He asked around and what he found is that he was the only one in his group that this is happening to.

From what I see/know Microsoft is switching over/have switched over to Outlook, and I forget weather I had to do this. Is this a standard process that Outlook is doing for all it's users or is it some kind of malware or hacker trying to get a hold of his account?

I shall add I found this which sort of sounded what he was talking about, with having a "date" to do this verification code

Hi guys!

I'm having trouble setting up Microsoft Outlook 97 to check my Hotmail account. I already check my local ISP e-mail with Outlook and I understand that to check Hotmail I have to add an Internet Mail account. What about POP3 and SMTP addresses for Hotmail??? Can someone pleeeease give me some instructions on exactly how to configure Outlook 97 to check Hotmail?!

My OS is Windows 98 SE.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Outlook 97 & Hotmail

Hi Fergus76

Unfortunately, Outlook 97 does not support Hotmail accounts, Outlook 2000 can be set up to receive but not send Hotmail.

Hotmail does not use Pop3, SMTP as it is web based mail.

You will need to use Outlook Express for your Hotmail account.
Tools>New Account Signup>Hotmail.

Take a look at this thread for more information on how Hotmail is accessed by Outlook 2000.

Outlook 2002 will support Hotmail

I've not been taking much note of emails regarding hotmail because mine was fine, yes, was. Now I am not so sure. I have been using hotmail via outlook as my main email for about a year now. I am still on 8.1 awaiting 10, so was wondering if it will working properly in 10. Anyway .....................

Almost everytime I open outlook to check my main email address, I get a "Sorry Outlook did not open properly and will close, please click on refresh to try again" and then something about it being their fault or similar words. I ignore it and my emails are still working. But quite a few times the programme has frozen for a few seconds then continues as if nothing has happened. I am considering going back to gmail as my main email so will be checking out the 'how to divert hotmail to gmail' thread a lot closer than before, as I deemed it unnecessary at the time.

As I am 4 weeks away from win 10, should I wait until then, will hotmail/outlook be any better in 10 than 8, as it seems to be a bit of a disaster in 8.1.

If I get Hotmail messages online, what is the advantage to routing them into WLM program, or Outlook?

Is there any difference between Outlook and WLM? They appear to me to be the same.

Answer:WLM--vs Outlook--vs Hotmail Web

Windows Live Mail can allow you to save your messages and contacts on your PC. It supports POP3, IMAP, and Hotmail access. Unlike Outlook Express for XP, or Windows Mail for Vista, WLM includes Hotmail access.

There are many email client programs in use on PCs. Windows 7 can support a couple provided by Microsoft: the paid software known as "Microsoft Outlook" and the free software known as "Windows Live Mail". Cannot connect to hotmail ( via Outlook 2007 since Saturday 1st Feb. Message says server not connected. (Normally uses Outlook Connector to connect). Hotmail/ accounts are setup as MAPI.

All other non-hotmail/ accounts in Outlook 2007 working OK.

Hotmail/ accounts are accessible via a webserver, and even accessible via Outlook 2007 if setup as POP3/IMAP.

I have many subfolders in the Hotmail/ accounts that are automatically syncronised when connected, and can be accessed when offline, but are also accessible when accessing Hotmail/ via the web from another PC. But when setup as POP3/IMAP accounts only the Inbox folder is synchronsed with Outlook 2007.

Even the ones I deleted months ago are there HELP!! If you have an explanation and solution please explain it simply (can I also block her from opening them?.) Thanks

Answer:Outlook Ex. has my Hotmail inbox!

Hiya and welcome

Are you still having this problem? If so, you can open up Hotmail on Outlook Express as follows:

Am I right in thinking that she uses the same Outlook Express as yourself, or a totally seperate pc? If its seperate, is it networked?

If it is seperate, see if removing her accounts that have your Hotmail emails in helps:

Tools | Accounts. Click to highlight the ones you want to remove, and select Remove. Don't get rid of the default one, just the Hotamil ones that seem to be shared.

Don't do this if she uses the same Outlook Express, as this will remove your accounts as well (Hotmail).

If you want to stop her opening them, do this:

Tools | Accounts. Click to highlight one of the Hotmail accounts, then select Properties. Servers tab.

Your password will be typed in, in ***'s. If the Remember Password box is ticked, untick it, apply and ok.

That way, it will ask for the password each time you open the account.

Answer:Outlook xPress with Hotmail

John, if you mean how to set up your hotmail in OE then

In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click Mail.
On the first page of the Internet Connection Wizard, type your full name, and then click Next.
On the Internet E-mail Address page, type your full Hotmail address ([email protected]).
On the E-mail Server Name page, click HTTP in the My incoming mail server is box.
In the box My HTTP service provider is, click Hotmail or Other.

If the box Incoming mail server is displayed, type

On the Internet Mail Logon page, type your account name and password in the respective boxes. Your account name is the first half of your MSN Hotmail e-mail address (the information before the @ sign).
Click Finish to add your Hotmail account to Outlook Express.

It should be the same for other users too.

Your Hotmail account will be updated when you click Send/Recv

I've gotten mixed results in trying to determine if Hotmail is still compatible with Outlook Express.

I configured Outlook express to communicate with a Hotmail account and it worked well for several of weeks. Then after that it began erroring out. It just quit working all of a sudden and in fact did so right after two forwarded emails went to the 'outbox' and never left.

With one last attempt yesterday, OE downloaded 3 emails from Hotmail then errored out again. It still did not send out the 2 emails in the outbox.

Then I decided to remove the Hotmail account from OE. I hit the remove button and all of a sudden it downloaded all the emails in the Hotmail Inbox. After that the link was severed.

What is the reality of the matter? I don't want to spin anymore wheels on this but I would like to be able to use OE. It is the only client I know of that will link Windows Fax and Picture Viewer to attached photos.

Provided you have a user address & password, just set it up.

I just tried to sign in to a Hotmail address I've used for years. MS in their complete lack of wisdom and good sense took me through a MAZE of security questions, secret codes, to "verify" the account. I entered a email to send a code to. They sent a 4 digit one, when I entered it on the page it said I needed a SEVEN digit code, all numbers.

They displayed a phone number to send a code to, which is not mine, it's one digit off, no option to correct it. I asked for one to be sent to the email addy again. Again it's a non-useable 4 digit one.

Apparently MS and the pips have decided if one doesn't sign in for awhile, someone is trying to hack it. I used to use it more but since they went to the Win 8 wannabe look in "Outlook" I very rarely use it.

After going through their 27 steps to "verify" 4 time, I gave up. I so dizzy now and have a headache.
