msn homepage fails to load

Question: msn homepage fails to load

msn home page fails to load. i get a notice that internet explorer can not find the page or that it's out of date

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: msn homepage fails to load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: msn homepage fails to load

Try deleting all temporary internet files and cookies in IE. The quickest & most thorough way to achieve that is by using Ccleaner: http://www.filehippo.com/download_c...

Here is the list of the problems in order of which I noticed things going awry:

1. My Firefox browser will re-direct my google searches to a new Firefox window pop-up with "google-analytics" in its address bar, but would never finish loading the new popped-up window. Firefox would also re-direct and never finish loading my google searches by opening a new tab with a "directdlr.com/....." in its address bar.

2. Microsoft Office 2010 applications don't open, instead a "DW20.exe" and a "DWWin.exe" replicates itself an infinite number of times in my processes, maxing out my CPU.

3. My anti-virus applications (Spyware Doctor, Microsoft Security Essentials, avast!, malwarebytes) won't update, and therefore won't run or scan. Firefox also won't load various anti-virus sites, such as this message board.

4. Other applications crash directly upon opening them (VLC Media Player)

Solutions that I've tried:

1. Resetting my router. I'd read somewhere online that doing this would solve the problem. It did not.

2. Trying to restore from a restore point. I opened System Restore, but the restore points were all very recent and within the timeframe of infection.

3. Un-installing Microsoft Office 2010 and re-installing. System won't let me un-install.

Here are my scan reports:

Not long ago (a week and a half or so) I was playing Payday 2 and my computer froze, I turned off my computer to restart it and could not load my computer past a pre-loading windows black screen where the mouse was not showing. I then tried booting my computer in various ways (safe, with and without networking etc) and they worked, however I believe one of my drivers failing to load was the reason for my "Windows Normal" startup to fail. I eventually decided through, I then looked at using the system restore point function in order to hope for some success. The system restore function when I restored to; a week ago, two weeks ago, did not seem too alleviate my issue much, it did however allow me to load windows but almost immediately after using the machine for 2-5 minutes I would have a frozen screen again. I then eventually decided to just factory reset the machine out of desperation, the factory reset eventually happened successfully and I was able to load windows and login into my new user successfully, as I learnt that I had to reinstall my graphical drivers I then attempted to put in various CD's in in order to install these drivers, eventually when I figured out the order of CD's that I needed to install for my games to load properly, I then resumed my activities on my pc (such as gaming, browsing etc).

Flash forward to the second factory reset, this one happened due to a very similar freezing problem yet again, and again I decided to turn off my computer ... Read more

I have just Recovered my networked Sony PC, and the recovery disc installed Windows XP Sp1 fine. I subsequently installed Window Service Pack 2, without any problems.
I have a very fast broadband service, and once I had made all of the necessary connections, all seemed to be in order. However, when I click on Internet Explorer and expect my homepage to stay in the address bar until I have finished, it fails and I get an error message about checking settings and connections. The strange thing is, that if I click on Google Chrome, then type the homepage (virginmedia.com), it opens up fine and is stable!
I have followed many possible suggestions, but to no avail.
I could make my homepage Google, but I don't want to.
(My emails {OE} work fine}.
Can a member please help with this?

Answer:My Homepage on my XP fails.

What actually fails.Do you get an error message saying I/E has to close or is it just your homepage that drops out.
Try Tools.Internet options.General.And in the box make sure your home page is http://www.virginmedia.com/ then press apply.ok at the bottom.

Running XP Home with IE7...after setting homepage and passwords for email, etc., IE7 loses these settings when signing off and back on. Also loses stumbleupon toolbar...I've tried system restore with no luck.

Sometimes homepage is lost just by leaving and coming back without leaving the web.

Probably a simple solution but beyond me.

Any help is appreciated.

why won't "new" MSN homepage load right? Since Microsoft overhauled the old homepage, I can't get the new one won't load up properly.

Answer:Why won't new MSN homepage load right?

The reason is (after some looking myself) since I have 6 browsers, I'd thought I'd play and the reason is: either the browser you are using is outdated or not a browser recognized by Microsoft as current. It does work on Updated Internet Explorer browser, but if you are stuck with IE 8 because you are on XP, then I would suggest switching to a browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox, all of which will open your desired page properly with current versions. Unlike Microsoft who will not let you install Internet explorer 10, 11 or...is because they want you to upgrade from XP, and this is one way to do that. Downloading Chrome or Firefox will give you a current browser that works as well or better than Internet explorer, just make sure they are up to date. Other browsers such as Comodo Dragon or Ice Dragon did not display the content properly either. To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!message edited by HopperRox

Answer:My homepage does'nt load!!

Please go here and follow the seven-page guide (links to subsequent pages are at bottom of each page)http://www.pcstats.com/articleview....When you have succeeded, install anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and keep them updated.Download and install SpywareBlaster from here: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.htmlSpywareBlaster puts a "block list" into your web-browser. Keep SpywareBlaster up to date so it can add to the block list.SpywareBlaster also has a "protect my home page" option. Make sure you enable it.It's important to realise that SpywareBlaster cannot get rid of existing spyware. You must get rid of that first then install SpywareBlaster to reduce the risk of getting any more.

I have a win2k (pro) PC with IIS(5) running. I've built websites offline, one of which I now use as my homepage.

Some time ago I noticed that my homepage loads fine without being connected to the internet but, when connected, I get the (IE6) message:

"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. " etc etc
..........
"Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer"

I get a similar message with the recently installed Firefox.

This is (significantly) beyond me, though I'm guessing it may be a dodgy registry setting "corrected" by the seemingly wonderful ccleaner program.

Any help much appreciated.

I have just bought a new computer complete with Windows 7. When I loaded Internet Explorer 9 on the old computer, the Google home page while it was loading made clicking sounds so you could hear when it was finished loading. On my new computer, the Google page loads up without any sound whatsoever yet I do have sound for Windows in general and other stuff such as music. Does anybody know how I set the Google page in IE 9 so it has sounds?

Thank you

HB

Answer:No sound in IE 9 when I load my homepage.

The google page has never had any sound for me, except on special occasions that google does have some special sound.

You can look at the Sounds, in the Sound Panel and see if there is something you can enable for the browser.

Hi

First post here - hope someone can help. I'm a frequent pc user but not particularly technical.

My problem is that when I first lauch internet exlorer (IE6) it takes at least one or two minutes to find my homepage.(Google). Everything is fine and quick after that.

I'm using XP Pro and running Norton Sytemworks, Spysweeper and Zonealarms Pro but with these running it used to load my homepage quickly without problems.

It could be coincidence but the problem started to happen about the same time that our local telephone exchange was upgraded which allowed me an increase in connection speed.

Getting really frustrated with it - please help if poss.

Hi, My friend asked me to do some maintenance on his laptop because it takes 20 Minutes+ for his homepage to load (http://start.earthlink.net/). He has DSL at 54 MBPS on a wireless card so it was never this slow (never slow at all)

He also receives many popups not relating to the site (obviously spyware) I have already done the Sticky Basic Spyware removal twice and still no luck. Also when I try to install any Norton Internet Security(2004,2005) it either freezes or nothing happens when you click install on the autoplay screen.

Should I just post a HJT log since i have already done the Basic Spyware removal?

Since its your friends copy of XP. If he has it installed also chances are you will not be able to download updates. XP is required to be activated inside a 30 peroid. This prevents one copy of XP being installed on more then one computer. If this is not your own operating system, you and your friend might run into some trouble down the line.

Most of the time when I start up firefox it takes an abnormally long time to load and then will say "server not found". The home page is set to google and is typed in properly. My computer is connected to the internet and is not using a proxy. Yes my computer is protected by a firewall but it shouldn't be blocking Google

Internet explorer does do the same thing but not as often.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Answer:firefox frequently does not load google homepage

If Google is also your Search Engine it loads faster.

I use google.co.uk/firefox as my browser homepage. On initial start-up it usually takes about 15 seconds to load, and then gets quicker - just 2 seconds. But if I keep closing the browser to do other work and then open Firefox again, it often takes up to 25 seconds to load the homepage from then on until the end of the session. Is there any reason for this, and can it be avoided?
I should add that the speed of loading web pages is not affected by the slow loading of the home page.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Answer:firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

The slow loading of FF is often related to issues with your FF profile.
Try downloading and running (no installation necessary) Speedyfox enter link description here
to tidy up your Firefox profile.
It may help speed things up a bit.

Posting this from my work machine as I am having issues from home. This started recently that when I open a new Firefox window, it takes about 20 - 30 seconds before I see anything load for the initial or homepage (Yahoo). If I click the X to stop the load and type in a specific URL or select one from my favorites, it loads almost immediately. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Firefox to see if that would fix it, but no joy. When I did that, I did NOT delete my user information. Not sure if that makes a difference.

So, then I went to post a question here, it takes 20-30 seconds and then I get the following error message:

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Any ideas? HJT log below.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Hello, sorry if I am in the wrong forum, I have a Windows 7 Dell computer. I have been trying to use wifi networks like McDonald's to do my homework. My internet will connect me and shows connected, but will not load the sign in page on a browser so I can complete my sign in. Not sure if this is a internet problem or a browser problem. Would really appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hi,

I have been having problems with lots of MSN sites and features. Some e-mails I receive by Hotmail won't open, as is the same for some pages off of the uk.msn.com homepage (specifically usually the ones that are blog pages or the ones that have the photo gallery articles). Some parts will load up but others won't and this pretty much freezes that internet explorer page - doesn't affect any others apart from slowing down streaming on another tab, but if I want to close explorer down i have to choose to end the program.

This is driving me mad! Does anyone know what this could be? I have a brand new HP laptop with Vista and don't have any other problems of this nature, only on MSN-related sites. And MSN doesn't offer any help..

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I apologise if I've posted this in the wrong forum.

Got a new computer today, hooked it up to the internet and can go on pretty much every website without a problem - except for Facebook!

Basically, I go to the homepage and it's all relatively white except for a few small links such as "About", "Advertising", "Developers" etc. It seems to be like this with all facebook pages.

I've attached a screenshot of the problem.

(With this being a new computer, perhaps I don't have some relevant programs to be able to view these pages?)

Please Help?

Answer:Solved: Facebook homepage wont load properly

Nevermind guys, solved the problem myself.

I'm an admin of a cyber cafe in my local area. All cient PC's (Windows 8.1 x64) are connected to each other including an Admin PC via wireless wifi. Recently, i change the router settings to hide its SSID. The only wifi available in Windows list are Hidden
Wifi. I set and make each of the PC connect to the hidden wifi automatically on startup and it works normally. The only annoying problem, is a homepage MSN is automatically load at default browser whenever the hidden wifi is connected each time computer starts.
It's pretty annoying as I need to ensure my client redirected to my desired homepage. I set IE, Chrome and Mozilla to specific website. But eventually each time computer boot, it automatically open a default browser as an MSN homepage. I can assure this annoying
problem rises when it connect to hidden network and not occur when connect to normal wifi with SSID. I've searched everywhere on Google but no solution for this. So I'm asking in here instead. How to remove the MSN homepage automatically open at startup even
though i set homepage as something else. Is there any way to prevent this? Image

P/S : And oh yes, don't tell me to check startup items in start shortcut, msconfig etc. I already check them and there are no reason for browser to open automatically at MSN homepage!

I am using Intel i3-530 on Intel DH55TC Motherboard. The motherboard supports RAM with highest frequency of 1333MHz. However, I was told that using a higher speed RAM wouldn't hurt the system. So, today I bought a Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600MHz RAM. The RAM is detected in BIOS, but OSes fail to boot after that. Even Ubuntu throws Kernel panic error while booting. Could anyone help me with the BIOS settings required to run this memory stick?

Answer:OS fails to load when using new RAM

Hello Mycroft mate as a general rule running a higher frequency RAM stick in a machine that runs that only supports the lower one the frequency will revert to the frequency of the new stick will be maxed to what frequency your machine will support. So I think whoever told you could run a higher frequency RAM stick in the machine should have known better and to get you to check out the supported RAM speed before you went out and got the new RAM.
If possible I would get the supplier to change it for 1333 (there really isn't much to be gained from 1600) and the extra RAM will still make a difference to your machine simply because the system has more to use and therefore less bottle knecking - in other words the CPU can load more faster if it has more empty RAM available.

ie Tip a bucket of water through a 1 inch outlet funnel into another bucket and it fills quite nicely in say 5 minutes - now take a funnel with a 10 inch outlet and the second bucket fills in no time at all - the first bucket is the CPU and the second bucket the RAM the difference being there is more channels for the data to flow through even though it might be the slower speed RAM

You can see from this Intel? Desktop Board DH55TC the board only supports 1333 max - you can install a faster RAM stick but why bother?

So for example the 1600 you have put in should only run at 1333 if the machine specs say max 1333. The other problem could be that the new RAM stick is bad.

To see about RAM this might gi... Read more

Hello. I have Red Hat Linux and Windows XP on different partitions on my Dell. I went to login to Windows the other day, and after I selected Windows it gave me a black screen saying windows failed to load. It had options of starting in safe mode, starting from last known configuration or starting normally. Regardless of what you press, the Windows XP screen comes up like its loading, then after a few second it goes to a blue screen saying unmountable_boot_volume. It says to remove any hardware that I recently added, but I haven't added anything. My sister had been using the computer while I was gone, and I don't know what to do now. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, Everyone,
How are you? I have been running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 on my computer for several years now. Last night, my computer froze for the first time in over half a year, so I restarted it and nothing seemed to be wrong. After about 15 minutes of using it, it froze once again. After restarting it the second time, however, it showed me the screen that says I could choose to restart in the "Last Known Good Configuration," in "Safe Mode, or to "Start Windows Normally."

If I chose the non-Safe Mode options, it would start to load Windows (with the Windows XP screen and the blue bar running under it), and then restart itself when the blue bar runs for the third time. For the Safe Mode options, it would load partway and then restart again.

Can I do something to fix this? Is this a hard drive problem? I tried unplugging everything except for my monitor and hard drive, but the problem was still there. Please help! I am using a library computer to type this and will wait until I can find a resolution, then go home and try it.

Thank you in advance!

I just recently gave my computer I had to my 15 year old sister. Iv'e had this system for four years and this has never happened to me before. The day after I gave it to her, she told me that it would not load. It gets all the way to the windows XP loading screen with the small green dots moving at the bottom then the dots just stop moving. The hard drive light is still lit up like its doing something but after an hour or so of leaving it on like that it was still frozen. I was able to load it up in safe mode and remove any adware/spyware on it and get a hijack this log. I'm not sure what it is she does on it but in all the time iv'e had the machine its never done this before.

I'm trying to fix a Lenovo 3000 N200 Model 0769 with a pentium dual core processor, a WD 160Gb #WD1600BEVS-08RS hard drive, and 2Gb RAM running Windows XP sp3 Home.  Could not find the restore CD, but have a copy of the OS on CD.A few months ago, the system crashed while I was using the computer and would begin this endless loop of trying to restart windows and then failing.  I suspected a failing HD, so I tried to put the drive into an external enclosure and plug it into my desktop PC.  It was not seeing the drive, so I bought a tested one (same model) from the internet.  Later, I was successful in bringing the OS back up again and immediately began copying files to a backup drive.  Every so often, while copying image and video files, the OS would crash again and I'd restart successfully. I suspected corrupt files or bad HD sectors.  Eventually, it quit loading Windows altogether.  I received the purchased replacement drive, however, when I plugged it into the laptop, it didn't seem to find it and I guessed that it had not been formatted yet.I took it into work where we publish a software database and plugged it into the Windows 7's mother board SATA plug and successfully detected and formatted the new drive.  I also plugged in the "failing" drive, which it detected  and ran a scan on it, automatically detecting and fixing any bad sectors.  It seemed to complete successfully and when I plugged th... As an initial step,go into msconfig/Start up and uncheck everything except the Firewall/AV.

If the error stops, then one of those start up programs is the cause.

My formerly cool computer continues to tick me off! I've been having a hardware problem, which I've traced to the video card slot, and am currently troubleshooting. The problem will cause my computer to completely fail to start - BIOS codes and all that. Working on it though, this isn't my question.

An unrelated problem has cropped up, though, perhaps related to problems I posted earlier...

Usually (but not always) after reboot, I'll get an error that msgina.dll failed to load. It suggests copying over a new one. I've done that, and it still fails to load on the first cold boot, but loads on reboot.

Anybody here seen this before, and can offer suggestions?

(on a side note, what do you use - besides an eraser - to clean the contacts on your AGP or PCI boards?)

Answer:msgina.dll fails to load

The file has something to do with Winlogon. Look HERE for some info on this. Also, a search of MSGINA on GOOGLE provided a wealth of info on why you are having your problem.

To clean contacts, I use Ethanol obtainable from a electronics shop, maybe Radio Shack It's the oils from your hands etc etc that can cause contacts to erode.

Start the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. NOTE: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers will generate a "keyboard error" message. Please restart and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select create boot log. Then Start Normally...after the boot fails follow the advice above and choose Safe Mode Have a look at th bootlog.txt file on the C drive the final entries are nomally the fail. Not sure if this is your problem, but it could well be. FSX can only be used on one machine, it checks its self with Microsoft. A new OS may be giving the wrong info. In which case you might need to contact Microsoft by phone. You may find more info at the following forums:- click here click hereI used to use FS9 but found my machine would not cope with FSX, so gave up on it. When I buy another PC then I might try again.FSXs programming was too far ahead of hardware capabilities at the time.

I have a very odd problem at the moment. As of recently my desktop fails to load anything except the wallpaper on any user.

Background:
I've recently acquired a Trojan.Vundo.H and have been attempting to get rid of it. I found it with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware. I've attempted numerous times at deleting the files in both safe mode and regular mode, but the virus still comes back.

I then attempted to locate the files manually. There was a single .dll file and then three registry entries (I would post then but I'm in the middle of a full scan on my computer that is infect so I shall do so when that is finished). In either mode and using cmd all were unable to be deleted. I then ran a virus scan using Avira and it found the .dll file but was unable to delete it. After a system restart I went to check to see if the file was still there and it was. However to my surprise, Avira detected the infected .dll file and was able to remove it. I then rebooted my machine and noticed the .dll was gone but that still left the three registry entries. I began to scan with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware and it said the .dll was still there, although after manually looking for the file I could not locate it.

So then I began to attempt to delete the three registry entries. I tried going in safe mode, editing the permissions, anything I could find online to do, but nothing worked. I then backed up the registry and set a system restore and then ran ccleaner.

After the restart is whe... Read more

Hello:

Let me begin by stating that I will donate $100 to Tech Support Guy if someone is able to *successfully* solve my problem.

WIN 7 X 64 fails when trying to load MS updates. I see lots of users have the same problem and have tried many of the suggestions that I found on the forum. I have Malwarebytes and MS essentials installed.

Security updates for MS.NET are successful as are Definitions for MSE, the Bing Bar updates and even updates for Office 2010 (even though it is not loaded on my computer) but none of the Security Updates for Win7 x64 based systems will load. Every bootup for weeks it says ? you have 37-40 updates? If I tell it not to update, sometimes, somehow, it does it any way and in the middle of my word processing a box pops up that is counting down to a reboot. If I don?t walk away it just shuts down in the middle of my typing.

If I ignore the ?updates available? it changes my log off box from ?shut down? to ?load updates and shut down?. If I don?t pay close attention and change the default back to ?shut down? each time I get stuck loading all the same updates that didn?t load the day before. Dirty pool.

Of course if I tell it to load updates it will finish and then wants to shut down. During shut down it spends a very long time loading ?definitions?? Then when I reboot it spends even longer trying to load updates. I must walk away. This ties my computer up for a very long time and then always has to run ?start up repair? to get the PC to boot after loading updates. I walk away again. Hey There, i had a brilliant result last time i came onto here for help so here i am again. :D

Last week my computer was working fine until one day i had to turn my computer off by the mains (Not shut down)

i turned it on then i had the normal boot screen and everything coming up but no windows xp loading screen
i then waited for something to happen but there was no result. it just stayed at a black screen. i then restarted it and when into safe mode and that also failed to load because it stopped loading at a certain file.

i then put in the windows xp disk and tried to re-install windows xp back onto my system but the windows setup failed to load also.

one time i had a message showing that i had some boot file corrupt :S

Answer:Windows Xp Fails To Load.

I have this issue every once and a while as well and can't seem to figure the problem out.
My issue is a little different though, my PC will lock up, and when I restart it'll load Windows, and then just go to a black screen like you described.
If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it'll BSOD and restart and work fine though.
Have you tried letting it sit?

the pc worked fine for about a month. i loaded all my programs and was sorting/ filing/ editing digital data (lots and lots of digital photo files) , left the pc, it went to hibernate, now it keeps looping trying to load xp.
i've tryed

1- at the dos prompt chose load in safe mode; failed to load and went back to dos screen saying there was a problem chose what to do next

2- chose to use last known good setting; failed to load and went back to dos screen

3- chose to use safe with prompt; failed to load and went back to dos screen

4- chose to use safe with networking; failed to load and went back to dos screen

5- inserted the recovery disc; failed to load and went back to dos screen

6- warm boot; failed to load and went to dos screen

7- cold boot; failed to load and went to dos screen

8- tried warm and cold boot without the recovery disc; failed to load

now it is setting there looping all through the same routine trying to load windows in normal mode.

the only way i can stop it is to cut the power to the pc by turning it off.

F9 will take me to the blue boot setup screen but none of the boot options work (goes through the same loop)

Answer:Windows xp fails to load

Huh?

Okay first, what is the exact spelling of the file it is failing to load, and what is the exact text of the error message? At what point in the installation process does this happen.

One reason installs fail is because the CD is scratched, dirty, etc... Sometimes making a copy of a damaged disk will work. The copying process "fixes" the bad data before it gets burned to the new disk.

Also, a bad optical drive will mis-read and corrupt data during an install. Changing out the optical drive might fix the problem.

Hello again - this place worked last time so I thought I would try again... here is my problem:I use a computer designed for a visually impaired person. The PC (running XP Professional) automatically loads JAWS For Windows (a program (JFW) which 'reads' what is going on (web pages, Word documents, keystrokes) so she can tell what is happening) which appears to run normally. HOWEVER when OPENBOOK (a Text scanning/'reading' program) is loaded, I get errors regarding SSILEXE.EXE not being able to load, which is a speech synthesizer designed to coordinate bothw JFW and OPENBOOK so they can 'talk' without both talking at once. I followed Freedom Scientific's directions (they are the makers of both these programs) to re-expand the AUTOEXEC.NT, CONFIG.NT and COMMAND.COM files from the Windos master disk to the C:\windows\system32\ directory, but the problem keeps coming back. (The only other error message I remember is something about not being able to "load a 16-bit program" or something like that.)Things I have noticed: a Sheild (looks like a MS Update shield) which says 'Downloading Updates 0%' (but I don't think it's really doing that) that pops up when I start Windows, JAWS runs fine, but trying to open OPEN BOOK takes a LONG time to load (and I get the error message about the speech synthesizer not being able to load) - if I try to load OPENBOOK while Norton Protection Center is checking the system this REALLY bogs down. I am wondering if runnning Nort... Read more

I have a VB.Net application written in Visual Studio 2005 using .Net Framework 2

The application is compiles and built on a Vista machine and packaged using InstallAnywhere 8.

I have successfully loaded in on 6 Vista machines and 14 XP machines.

Part of my installation process checks if .Net Framework 2

There are 3 XP machines that it Fails.

The installation in successful. The application fails to load.

I then built the application on an XP machine and was able to install and run the application on both Vista and other XP machines.

It still fails on the original 3 XP machines.

Any suggestions how I troubleshoot this problem

For the last 2 days I cannot get my Youtube channel to load properly. It seems to stick on something called "s.ytimg.com". Is anyone else having this trouble at the moment?

As 67 people have looked at this but not one has replied, even to tell me that I'm an idiot, I feel rather ignored on what is my first outing on this forum. Perhaps my question is too banal.

Anyway, in the hope of receiving some sort of response here's a more detailed description of the problem:

I use Firefox with Noscript and Ad Block Plus.

I have a 3 mobile broadband connection (which has worked well enough since I got it) and before Friday I had no problems with Youtube.

When I try to load my channel on Youtube everything zips along nicely until it comes to "transferring data from s.ytimg.com". Then it just hangs. And Hangs. I have left it for 40 minutes or so and nothing has moved.

If I selectively disable "ytimg.com" in Noscript everything loads but there is no video to play.

Evidently s.ytimg.com is a perennial nuisance because it is mentioned in many other forums. Solutions suggested include putting extra lines in the hosts file (tried it. No good). Removing lines from the host file (couldn't because the line was not there) and changing DNS server.

Does anyone here have any new wheeze to suggest?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I am new here.

In fact, perhaps there should be a section just for s.ytimg.com and its attendant miseries.... Read more

Hi,

I've got a problem and wonder if someone could help me out...

Windows XP Pro SP2 was working fine until I rebooted and now the desktop won't load. All the programs are accesable from the task manager>new task and I have run a AVG scan with no results. The screen picture loads, but nothing else. No start bar, no office toolbar, no icons, no anything.

I've scanned the forum for an answer and there was one result for desktop failing to load, but this did not seem applicable.

I am getting no error messages.

Ill try to make a long story short. Bought a Dell Precision 470 that was two years old from my ex boss. I ran the computer the whole time and it never once gave me a single problem. Upon receiving the computer i found that he ran a few registry deleting programs and because i know he doesn't know how to do anything i feared he did something wrong.

I in turn decided to format the computer. I am running a RAID 1 set-up (mirror) on two 250GB drives. I format the raid array first and rebuild the array then install OS which involves obviously formatting the hard drive and then install drivers reboot then what software pleases me.

The software i run is pretty basic, office 2003, illustrator, photoshop, itunes, mozilla, norton and a software and driver for my business which happens to be sign making. Now the only software thats different on there is the signmaking stuff. We use to run a Prog called signlab and now i use something else. apart from that the general use of the computer is about the same as it was the two years previous.

Every 4-6 weeks the computer decides to stop loading. Always after being shut down normal and properly. It will get to the Windows preloader screen where the three boxes just sit there and slide back and forth over and over essentially until i turn the box off. I can't for the life of me figure this out. the hard drive and information is completely in tact, what seems to be missing is the os software. for the longest time i was not able to g... Read more

I just came home for christmas and my parents showed me that their computer is failing to boot.

It posts normally, runs the windows splash screen, and then comes up to a black screen with a mouse cursor and hourglass, then 30 seconds later to just a mouse cursor - it can sit for an hour and never loads anything else. In safe mode, any type, it does the same thing but with the version number across the top and 'safe mode' in each corner.

In any mode there is no taskbar and no response from the start button, right clicking or ctrl+alt+del

I have tried, after making a backup of course, replacing explorer.exe and taskman.exe as well as the entire system and system32 folders(except config in system32 which is protected). I have loaded the hard drive in my own computer and it does the same thing. I ran scandisk on it while it was in my windows pc and it didn't tell me anything. The drive is divided into 3 partitions and I only scanned the C drive.

This is my parents computer and I do not have a hardware listing, it is relatively new but not high end, I can look for model numbers on anything that is relevant.

I have slaved the drive into another computer and backed up any data, I am just trying to avoid a full reformat and having to reinstall all the software.

any thoughts?

Please provide us with the computer specs including model and make. Go ahead and turn off the computer and unplug it from the wall and remove any hardware or USB devices that you might have added to it and by that I mean USB thumbdrives, printer, etc. Let's have this PC only have the essential parts (mouse/kb/onboard graphics card) attached to it so we can quickly and effectively resolve the issue. Now, with the computer unplugged from the wall, press on the power button and release after 5 seconds. Now plug it in and turn on the computer. What happens now? Please do not try anything else at this point but simply report back to me and I will provide you with the next steps.

Dear fellow people out there in the Internet :

There was recently a post in this forum titled "Windows did not start successfully" which contained this text :
"Every time I try to restart I get this message that Windows did not start properly and I should select from 4 options
- safe mode
- safe mode with networking
- safe mode with command
- last known setting
- start normally

I tried all the options but nothing seems to work. It just goes back to this same screen again. Please help. I have tons of very valuable information on my computer."

I am having this same problem and tried all of the steps recommended, including trying to run the repair console from the XP disk. I gave the computer to a friend who is a professional IT guy, and he said he is having no luck pulling my files off of the computer using either the "hook it to another computer" method, or with his company's data extraction software. He says he thinks the hard drive itself is damaged and about to die and I should find a professional data extraction service.

My question is: How do you find such a service? I am kind of leery of just searching on the Internet for this. Also, is there anything else to try? I have a 3 year old Gateway that lost it's warranty exactly 2 weeks before it died.

If I have to replace the computer, I don't even care at this point, as long as I can recover my years of writings and research (which were not FULLY backed up)

Youtube does not require Java.
It requires the "Flash Player" from Adobe, and also requires that "javascript" be enabled in your web-browser. Javascript has nothing to do with Java, despite the similar-sounding name.

My problem is that my computer no longer is able see Windows 8.1 on bootup. I get a ?Loading OS?.? message and nothing happens.

Before this happened, I reset my computer from Windows with the intent to change a BIOS setting for the CPU fan and an Windows update was applied on reboot. Windows (apparently) installed the update and then I got to the login screen. At this point, instead of logging into Windows, I hit the reset button to make the BIOS change. After doing this, when I tried to boot again, Windows would even begin to load and I got the ?Loading OS? message immediately. Is it possible that Windows did not finish installing the update even though I was at the login screen for Windows 8.1?

I then booted from the USB flash drive with Windows 8 install files (not 8.1?I upgraded from 8 to 8.1). I went into the repair option and then I got the message that no repairs could be found or were needed. (Interestingly now when I try the repair option, the computer automatically reboots so the repair option appears to be very broken now.)

Next, I tried to see if my disks were working and they seem to be. Attached is a screenshot when I list the volumes. C: drive is a HDD data drive without Windows. D: drive appears to be some sort of system restore partition (as far as I understand). F: drive is the SSD with Windows installed on it. I can navigate through all directories fine on the SSD and the drive seems healthy. (E: drive is the USB drive.) When I unhook the data drive, all... Read more

Answer:Windows 8.1 Fails to Load after udpate

Okay, this appears to be a tough one--Nobody has responded yet and basic level of MS support was not helpful.

Quick questions: Does the volume drive arrangement in the picture above seem reasonable? (1) Does the Windows drive need to be volume 0 and/or drive C? The SSD (111 gigabytes) is drive C normally when Windows loads up. Would reassigning the drive to C fix the problem possibly? Can I reassign the volume? This is probably not the solution though as I would not understand why the drives would have been incorrectly reassigned in the first place.

(2) What do I need to do to get sfc to run?

alright i start my computer, running XP home edition. half the time or slightly more then half the time i get to the windows loading screen and the loading bar freezes and windows does not load no matter how long i give it. If i restart my computer it will freeze again on the loading screen 100% of the time. If i turn off and turn on my computer via the power button on front panel same deal, it will freeze again at the same spot 100% of the time.i have thus far been combating this problem by after the freeze turning off the power via the power button on the front panel, and when the system shuts down killing power to the power supply via the power switch in the back and waiting 10 seconds. turning back on the back power switch and starting normally. I will get a windows failure to load with the normal options and start windows normally works 100% of the time.i have made no hardware additions to my computer, and this issue seems to be progressive. i used to deal with this perhaps once every 5 start ups and now its slightly over half my start ups.

Answer:windows fails to load 1/2 the time

Power supply or motherboard would be my guess. Power supply cheaper/easier to swap out, so I would try that first. If its mobo, can be a pain as often need to replace cpu & ram too (depending on age) - or look for second hand on ebay. And new (different) mobo means reinstall or repair reinstall, normally.

Recently, my PC has been restarting randomly. The odd part is it usually happens when I'm just browsing the internet. Until last night I haven't had any issues when gaming (BF2 and NFS:MW). The one BSOD I saw and the "system has recoverd from a serious error" messages pointed to driver issues so I cleaned the video drivers and re-installed them and thought the problem was fixed.

Only after gaming did the problems occur until last night BF2 froze leaving me with a loud beep/screech from my headphones. I did a hard restart and made it into windows but soon after the machine reset.

Currently I can boot into BIOS, make changes etc, but as soon as the last step in bios completes (verifiying DMI pool data I believe), it fails to continue onto the Windows XP splash screen. The screen goes black but does not power down which really confuses me.

I tried swapping video cards and also removed my Audigy 2 to narrow down a hardware issue and the same thing happens. Now I'm coming to you guys for help.

Answer:Windows fails to load/boot?

nice description but try posting your hardware (power supply included). Also what if anything changed or got plugged into the computer lately?

It could be anything keeping it from booting - corrupt files from the last crash, bad ram, cpu, PSU, etc. Can you boot into SAFE MODE?

I have had NTbackup installed on my Windows XP Pro PC for some time and used it successfully. Now, suddenly, when I double-click the application, no window appears. If I look in Task Manager, "ntbackup.exe" appears in the Processes list and a very small blank window with Backup in the blue title bar appears, but nothing else. The only way to get rid of the window is to end the task in Task Manager.I have tried reinstalling ntbackup.exe from the Windows CD, but this has no effect.Any suggestions?

Answer:NTbackup fails to load properly

Look for the NTbackup folder and delete everything that is IN the folder, reboot your system. Reinstall NTbackup software, hopefully this will cure the problem.I think the reinstall is still looking at the old setup in the NTbackup folder and not overwriting with the new install?

Okay, I keep getting a "User Profile Fails to Load" error on Windows 7. When it occurs, I can log into a different profile and perform the fix on this website: http://cherrybyte.blogspot.com/2007/07/fixing-user-profiles-in-vista.html. Basically, I have to remove a .bak profile from the Registry and change the RefCount and State values back to 0 on my account in the Registry.

Frequency: Once every 2-3 weeks.

System information:
-XFX Motherboard
-Intel Quad-core 2.3Ghz process
-4 MB RAM
-Dual Seagate SATA 250GB Hard Drives
-NVidia Graphics card (I don't remember the version, but it's an older one)

Had XP on it but formatted the hard drives then installed Windows 7.

I hope somebody can help me with this. When I try to start MS Word from the MS Office toolbar or anywhere else, all that happens is that MS Word loads the display screen showing the registered users name and then freezes. It only happens to MS Word as MS Excel, Access and Publisher all load normally.I've used system restore in case I did something like delete a file by mistake but no joy. Scan Disk says that there is no disk errors and uninstalling office and then reinstalling office doesn't solve the problem. The sole error message I have had states that there is an error in the file "user.exe" and my understanding is that this is the Windows ME program. Here's hoping for a solutionJATF

Answer:Word 2000 fails to load

Close Word.Search for NORMAL.DOT (you will need to search for hidden files and folders) and rename it to ABNORMAL.DOTTry starting Word.If that doesn't work, rename the file back again and post back here.

Hi, i'm trying to change my wallpaper, and i can't get the display properties to show up anymore. i tried rightclicking the desktop, through the control panel, and through the nvidia control thingy.
i can choose properties or double click it from the control panel, and my pointer does its busy animation, but then it stops and there's nothing. can't task switch to it, no extra process shows up, nothing. if there's something in administrative tools to disable it, that might be my prob, but i swear i looked through it all. help me please!!

I would like to be able to solve a problem with my operating system which is not loading all the way. I want to solve it without having to do a clean install.

The Problem:
Windows will stop loading at a point just before the initial desktop screen ?Windows 7 screen?. The screen is black with the mouse cursor and stops. No matter how long I wait it will not proceed any further.
The History:
I purchase this laptop (Dell Studio 1747) 13 months ago with a touch screen, i7, 320gig/5400rpm hard drive, 4 gig of ram and with Windows 7 home premium. The first modification I made to the system in Jan 2011 was to add a Kingston 128gig v+ SSD. In installed Win7 with the ability to boot to either drive. In Sept I installed the Win8 developers preview. I shrank the original hard drive to be able to install Win8 in a new partition. I now had three OS's installed. I have been using the SSD drive as my main system for obvious reasons. Every week I would install any updates in the original Win7 installation.
The events leading to the initial problem:
This past week when I booted to Win8 I was unable to access the other disk partitions using Windows Explorer. I also was presented with a window indicating that a large number of files had an 'invalid security code and was being replaced with a default security code. After logging off Win8, I restarted Windows7(SSD) and found that it would stop loading at the place I described earlier. I then tried 'Safe BOOT' and it stopped at the same place. I ... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 fails to load completely

What a mess.

Can you post back a screenshot of maximized Disk Management drive map with listings of any of the OS's which are still bootable, while all HD's are plugged in. We can advise you better.

If not, unplug all but the SSD, making sure it is set to boot first in BIOS setup (after DVD drive), mark Win7 partition on it Active so it will accept the System boot files: Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

Next boot into Win7 DVD Repair console to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts with its own boot files instead of booting off of the other HD.

You can now plug back in the other HD and boot it using the BIOS one-time Boot Menu key so the HD's remain independent. If it needs repair to start, do so using the same procedure as above with the SSD unplugged using the Win8 DVD Repair console.

If you still want to boot the rescue Win7 you installed on HD, add it to Dual boot when starting that HD only, using EasyBCD 2.0 from Win8. But I would delete it's partition in Disk Mgmt unless you have an extra Product Key to activate it and a need to keep it.

When I try to find Backup and Restore in my computer I fail to find it. I tried to load it using Command Prompt "%SystemRoot%\System32\control1.exe /name Microsoft.Backupandrestore" and the page shows blank with the note "The page failed to Load" I have Acronis installed on my computer. Is this causing the problem?

Last night I had to shut down my computer through the power button, as the computer had froze (due to me routinely overloading it, not restarting it for several hours, etc). This is very normal, but when I turned the computer on today, it took an abnormally long time to boot up.

When I entered my user password it spent a full two minutes loading my settings, then sent me to a blank desktop window. There are no errors that appear, I cannot use the little windows key on my keyboard to bring up programs, and the only way I can access anything is through ctrl+alt+delete.

What went wrong? What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:WinXP Fails to Load Settings

Boot into safe mode. Click start \ Run and type msconfig. Click the startup tab and see what is running at boot up.
