Preferred Solution: says acess is denied, error 0x00000005, i cant print a thing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: says acess is denied, error 0x00000005, i cant print a thing

What program are you using to print from? Are you connected to the printer through a USB cord or is it wireless?

I am trying to copy a new version of an .exe file from a CD to a subfolder on top of the old version of the file in c:\program files.

Every time I do so I get an "error:access denied" message.

I have taken ownership of all files and folders concerned.

I can copy the new file to any other location. I can delete the old file but still, if I try to copy the new file I get the same message

Hi there,
Storage pool with two storage spaces created using Windows 8 Release Preview and then ported into Windows 8 RTM. I'm now trying to delete one of the storages spaces and getting this access is denied error message.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Answer:Unable to delete Storage Space "Access is Denied" 0x00000005

I solved the problem for me.
Again... No file lock on the storage pool and no application is doing anything with this virtual disk. But it's not possible to remove it from storage spaces. This has nothing to do with ownership of the drive, access rights or an access of a process. I
had a clean windows setup with no programs installed. I'd say that this is a bug of windows!

Anyway here is my solution:
* Opened an explorer with "Computer" open.
* Opened "computer managment" and selected the storage list.
* I selected the storage pool which I wanted to delete but wasn't able to.
* Right click -> format... I think I have chosen NTFS but it's not so important...
* Warning that the drive is in use (what a nonsense) -> yes yes ok
* waited a few seconds until the bar with the free space disappeared at the "Computer" folder for this drive (on the explorer).
* stopped the format process. some error msgs that this couldn't be canceled and then he said he couldn't finish... (wtf ;))
* then back to the storage spaces overview... manage storage spaces... delete storage pool... pool disappeared... finish

hope this helps someone

Question: Acess Denied

Hi all! As most of you know windows always has problems I am having some right now that are sorta of stumping me so please help :beard:

1) I have recently obtained NFSMW but when I used sd4hider I must have messed something up because when I restarted afterwards it would reboot when it got to the login screen so I went to safe mode and did tons of stuff and it stopped but it kept doing it later so I got angry and did a repair install it kept stopping at 34 minutes (with all usb things unplugged) until I disconnected my second drive but now whenever I change something in msconfig and hit apply it says acess denied and from the event log its denying windows updates it even denies msconfig when I log into the safe mode admin account so what should I do?

2) I just recently switched to bitspirit and its speeds are fablous but I noticed that when I start windows the tcpsvcs.exe consumes about 50% of the cpu until I kill the process so any ideas if I should disable it or do something to keep from eating my cpu?

I know I more problems but I can't remember them now but I'll add them to this thread once I remeber

Answer:Acess Denied

Next time try actually buying the game instead of trying to bypass the CD1 by using a virtual drive hider. Sheesh. You somehow fubarred up your OS with sd4hider and your ide slave is now considered to be a virtual drive in your registry???? I would suggest that you go into safe mode and save all your critical data and do a fresh install. If repair didn't work your OS is toast. I'm sure there is a big thrill in torrent pirating software but this is not the forum to use because the rules forbid illegal activityand its results . I would suggest that the Admin close this thread ASAP.

So i have a secondary hard drive in my computer and Vista sees the drive but when i try to open it it tell me access is denied. this just started recently. i have used this drive for over 2 years now flawlessly. i have tried everything i can think of. any ideas? by the way when i go to properties it shows that the drive isnt using any space and it has no space available... thanks in advance.

Answer:G: Acess is denied?

I've seen this issue and if the drive has been working and no security permissions have changed then your looking at a bad drive. One thing I do is put the drive in a USB enclosure and see if it can be accessed that way. If it doesn't spin up you are probably looking at a bad drive.

Question: Acess Denied

Hi all

I am using Windows Xp SP3 on my laptop
I have locked my folder name "game" in drive E:\ using cacls command in command prompt.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>cacls E:\game /E /P everyone:n,

after using this command my folder "game" in drive E is locked, but it now when i want to unlock it using everyone:f,, it is showing Acess Denied.
I have tried /C /G /T every option, but it is always showing acess denied.

Please suggest me the correct procedure to open my file "game"

Answer:Acess Denied

You shouldn't have locked it by using 'everyone', because 'everyone' includes administrator. Thats why you cannot undo the setting, because administrator doesnt have privilege to unlock it.

The only thing I could think of is to boot with the XP disc, choose Repair and I think there is a choice for a command prompt somewhere. And try the cacls unlock command there.

If this is successful, then you can lock it again using the 'users' group. That would bar anyone except administrators.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

Answer:acess is denied to C: drive

All files? or specific files?

- If specific locked files, you could 'Take ownership' of the file. (Google 'How to Take Ownership of a file windows 7')
- You could also try logging on as the local 'Administrator' (If account is active) and see if it still denies you.

Hi everyone,About 3 weeks ago I took my laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400, OS Windows Vista) to be fixed. It had a problem that I thought would be related to the screen but finally it was the motherboard. The man who fixed it had another laptop just like mine but almost new. He changed a couple of things, then inserted my old laptop's cards (RAM and so) and gave it to me.I had forgotten my windows password, so he recommended me to use one of those programs to recover it, I did it and now I'm the admin of my laptop.Everything seemed to be fine until I plugged a usb flash card in one of the ports. The computer recognises the device, as well as memory cards or external hard disks, but it denies me the access to any of them. I can however use my printer, even my joystick using the same port(s).I tried changing the permissions, it will not allow me. Everytime I plug any flash card that works in every other computer and I know it's not empty, it tells me it's empty. It shows even the name of the flash card but denies any access to it.I uninstalled and installed again the controllers, even in safe mode, with the same result. I ran the antimalware and the antivirus programs in safe mode as well, nothing changed.A couple of strange things that I noticed and may be useful: my old laptop used to have only a C:\ drive with windows and so on and a D:\ drive with the recovery files. Now it's got 2 more drives. One is 2GB big and totally empty (I can use it with no problem)... Read more

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on why I am getting the following such errors when running a robocopy batch file (as administrator) which cause the backup script to stall (- albeit temporarily):

I am using the following backup command:

robocopy "%srcPath%\My Documents" "%dstPath%\My Documents" /b /v /ts /fp /bytes /tee /e /dcopy:t /copy:dt /a-:sh /xf desktop.* /np /log+:%logPath%\mwk1log.txt
I realise that if I limit the retries and wait time from the defaults the stall time will be shortened and the file(s) skipped. However, that does not resolve the issue why robocopy is having a problem copying the file(s).

I have found that if the erroring files are moved from the source location to the desktop, the following errors arethen recorded in the log:

Hi,

I have seen instances of a bug with the dcopy:t switch - try the script without that switch. You could also try the COPY:DATSOU switch, although I'm unclear if that copies the folder time stamps too.

Code:

You mention workgroup first then homegroup. If you are running homegroup it has sharing issues on some systems (esp older hardware). If homegroup you can test to see if this is the problem by creating a new network connection using workgroup. If it works you can disable IPv6 and homegroup;.

After a recent successful in place upgrade of my Win7 64 machine to correct OS problems (earlier thread), I'm running into some really odd OS behavior pertaining to automated backups from my machine to my wife's Win7 second hard drive and external hard drive--both of which I have established 'everyone' sharing read/write rights. Keep in mind that prior to the in place upgrade I did not see any of the following problems.

First, Second Copy 8 displays 'access denied' and 'failure to open' log errors. However, when I check the target destination files in question they are date stamped that evening so it seems despite the error they were properly copied.

Second, I'm receiving (paraphrased) 'program requires intervention' warning emails during the day on my phone from Acronis. However, when I check the target destination locations the images are properly date stamped.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Mark

Answer:Very strange 'Acess denied' behavior

Hi,

No. No sense.

However, did you examine the event logs at the time of the errors? start > eventvwr.exe

I could suggest trying to copy the same files with another utility such as BeyondCompare (free trial) from ScooterSoftware. It is very good at copying, comparing and logging errors as files are copied from one directory to another. If you do get an error during copy, visit the event log to see if you are having any drive problems.

CHKDSK of course.

Just a suggestion.

For instance, Documents and Settings, My documents and others. I do not have a password set as I am the only user basically. When I try to acess one of those folders I get the message that that folder is not available, Acess Denied. How can I unlock these folders? I've had Vista about a month or maybe two.

Answer:cannot copy (filename) acess denied

Is it a file you have created?

If you right-click the file and choose properties, then go to the security tab, user group Administrators should have Full Control on the file in question. It could be that the file was created by another user or program and you are not included in the Administrators group for some reason, but you give yourself Full Control for here anyway.

First I want to thank you for whatever help you can give me...

I have a friends gateway desktop computer running windows 98, It has a pentium 2 processor (450megs) with 128megs of ram. when ever I click on a desktop or any icons in the control panel i get an error box with a red X in that says "access to the specified device, path, or file is denied" I have tried to even get to property manager but get the same message. Now I am blocked from even getting online. I have ran the virus program (panda titanium), ad-aware, spybot, window washer, and now hijackthis. I cant seem to find the problem. I have cleaned the spyware out and did an online virus scan @ trendmicro housecalls. I am adding the hijackthis log file. Im at the end of my rope and about to just reformat the hard drive. although i really do not want to loose the infromation i have on there. I also have something that comes up in the task manager that just says "control" before i can do anything i have to end task on that. or my cpu freezes. Thank You Kat

Answer:acess denied to system files

You didn't say if this is a new problem or something thats been going on for awhile. but....
if this is new, and you have a fairly good idea of when it started there is something to try before a reformat. When you boot up go to your options screen,
usually you do this by pressing F8 or in some cases Ctrl, select command prompt only.
at the prompt type scanreg /fix
pick a date before the problem started. let it run and then reboot. see if that fixed it.
if that doesn't fix it another thing to try (last resort before a reformat) replace your system.dat file with system.1st (this file is a backup up the VERY first time windows was installed on that system and can be found in your root directory. as I said this is a LAST resort, this will set your pc back to its first start up.
hope this helps

I am getting redirected on the internet after a virus and I suspected the hosts file needed to be checked. strangely, there are 6 files in the etc folder but only 5 can be seen.(show hidden file option is activated) one file was a hosts.txt and when I tried to remove the .txt, it said file already exists. After a restart the .txt part corrected itself but problem still exists.

What should I do now?

Answer:Hosts file hidden and acess denied

The virus could have done more then just mess with your HOST file.

Hello,

About 2 hours ago I turned on my computer only to find it was taking an unusually longer time to start up. When it finally did there were no icons on my desktop, no internet connection, no audio, and an error message saying
"Location Not Accessible- C:\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop not accessible- access denied"

Or at least as far as i can remember.

The taskmanager said there were 28 processes running but only 3 were shows in the process list and only a few services were running. When i tried to start an it would just prompt me to an error message saying access denied.

I'v looked for solutions online and I have tried running in safe mode and typing "SFC /SCANNOW" in cmd promt but it did not fix it. I also system restore but it is an administrative process and My computer will not allow me to run any administrative programs.

I have also tried creating a new profile but, alas, it was an administrative program. So it did nothing.

I only have 1 account and it is the creator/owner/ administrator.

I have no windows dvd or startup cd because my computer came with the OS preinstalled.

I'm guessing this problem self inflicted when i mistakingly ran a registry cleaner, regcure, yesterday.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please reply, thanks

-Byron

But, the boot time became so elongated, the net gave me some tips but to so, I had to use SAFE BOOT. But the old F8 would not work so I used the MSCONFIG. But, then Win 10 CREATED a new account using my email and password I had for Microsoft Live web site, DELETED MY OLD PATRICK AND REAL ADMIN ACCT. It took considerable time to figure the PW it was looking for.
So went back to regular boot, renamed the EMAIL name to the original PATRICK acct as it had been deleted,
They did give me ADMIN rights but that rarely works when you do some heavy lifting.
This leaves me with ONE ACCT, PATRICK with ADMIN RIGHTS, not with full ADMIN privileges.

So, lets create a REAL Admin account.

In general high lighting the folder then just going to the "share with" tab then adding "type in"> "Everyone" to the "shared with" list should give you access to those files. You may need to enable Pubic folder sharing in the Advanced Sharing settings as well.

Is there a 3rd party utility that will allow me to change permissions of files & folders? I have done everything that should give me acces to a dll file I am trying to copy. I have ownership of the file, and I am logged on as an administrator. I can't open or copy the file. When I change permission to full access using the properties/advanced/permissions tab, all the checkmarks disappear when I click apply. Windows will not let me change permission for the file or the destination folder program files(x86)\game. According to all the forums I have looked at, I should have permission. I don't. Please help!

Answer:Acess denied after taking ownership as admin

That probably means that the file is in use - either access it from the Repair Environment, or try using Safe Mode.
The other possibility is that the permissions are locked by the parent folder.

Try using this command to see what the permissions actually are....

ICACLS <path>\<filename>

post the results, and we can all see what's happening then.

I'm trying to robocopy a large folder from the command line (run as Administrator) and on certain files I get an error 5 "Access Denied." Looking at the files' security reveals that the only user with access is a garbled, nonsensical user name as seen here:

I tried using the takeown command to take ownership from the command line but this had no effect. I tried deleting this user but it tells me that the permissions are inherited (even though the folder in which the file exists does not have this garbled user) Is there another command I can use to fix this? I have several hundred files in this folder with the same problem.

Answer:Robocopy ERROR 5 (0x00000005) and Corrupted User Permissions

I figured out the solution. I ran these commands on the directories:

Code:
takeown.exe /F * /A /R /D Y
icacls.exe * /grant Everyone:(F) /grant Guests:(F) /grant Users:(F) /T /C /Q

Hello!!
First post on this forum, that I discovered by chance looking for an answer to my problem, so Hi everybody

I recently changed the Graphic Card on a computer running on Windows 7 64 bits, SP1 (from a Geforce 760 to a Geforce 560Ti)
I had a huge amount of problems doing so: after uninstalling the drivers of the precedent card and installing the new one (both coming from the Nvidia website), the computer simply couldn't find the new or the ancient GC!! Or it did find it, but "couldn't access it" or "hadn't access to it" (sorry, don't know the exact terms, the OS is set to French).

Anyway after half a day of trial and errors, I finally managed to install it in safe mod, and I thought that everything was -finally- okay.

Then, a few days later, it appeared that the "couldn't access device" was now spreading in the whole computer: I can't even install or use a single USB device.
I tried the USB drivers - general fixes for problems that you advice, three times without success: it still have the same problems.
I can't totally install USB devices (and all devices, I assume from the GC incident) even on safe mod.

Oh, and on top of that, the windows restoration system doesn't work: I would have tried to go before the GC change to see if everything was working.

I also checked the famous SP1 USB driver problem, but it doesn't seems to fixt it (the .exe find no problems).

The reply did not work so I will try to start a question instead:

Question: You wrote:

My permissions were all fine, so if anyone has trouble resolving the issue after sorting permissions then make sure you try fully disabling your anti-virus / anti-spyware / firewall applications, because that was the cause for me.

Instead, I went and turned off all the ESS protections one by one and it turned out to be HIPS that is causing this false positive.
In fact, it is the Advanced Memory Scanner option under HIPS that is causing the error, while the application in question is legit (using Inno Setup and presumably trying to write to the user temp folder, not sure whether just logs or to execute from there)

Furthermore, Smart Security logs have no entries under HIPS even though I ticked "Log all blocked operations" under the HIPS "Advanced setup" -... Read more

I have been trying to setup a postscript printer on port "File:" so I can print anything from a webpage to a file for running through Acrobat 8 Distiller. When I first install the print to file, it works fine until I reboot the computer. Every time I print to this printer after the reboot, I get a pop-up box titled "Local Port" with the message "Cannot Print to File: Access Denied". I gather it is a permission problem of some sort as I can log onto the Administrator user-id and it prints to file fine. Any ideas on what permissions I need to set this printer to in order for it to work under a standard user-id?

Using Windows Vista Ultimate X64.

Thanks
Ian.

Answer:Error "Could Not Open The File: Access Denied" setting up print to file

I have given up finding a solution to the problem. I no longer use Adobe Acrobat Professional full as I have tried both updates 8.0.1 & 8.0.2 to no avail, and is now unsupported as Adobe is up to version 9 of this software. I have opted for a freeware solution, so I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Professional and installed the freeware CUTEPDF Writer at www.cutepdf.com. It works beautifully on Vista X64 on all documents, including Microsoft Word and Scanned Images and Photos. I'm very happy with the results.

I have a Gateway tower running Windows 7 Home Premium with an Epson printer direct connected via USB. I also run an HP laptop running Vista Home Premium. I have a Netgear RangeMax router. Sharing is activated for printers on the Gateway. The HP can access the internet. The HP can see the Gateway. But the printer is not there. When I try to add a printer on the HP it finds none.

That's the major problem, I would love to be able to print from the laptop.

The second issue is watching a video on the HP is painful, constantly pausing as it buffers the video. I purposely bought the Netgear so we wouldn't have that issue and there are only the two computers on it.

Thanks for any help, particularly with the printing issue.

Hi

I have a strange problem and cannot find an answer.

I have a workstation, NT 4.0 SP6a with local Panasonic KX-11124i printer. When the user tries to print she gets an access denied message. I signed on as Administrator and got the same message, signed on to the network as myself and got the same message.

The history...

Originally, we had this printer and an HP4000 shared off her port with and A/B box. Everything was working fine. We moved the HP4000 to the network and got rid of the switch box. The Panasonic was connected directly to her PC. Since then she cannot print.

If I boot into DOS with a DOS disk and do "dir >lpt1" it prints fine. So the problem is in NT. I have deleted the printer, including registry entries and driver dll files. No help. I found an article on Microsoft about deleting the registry key with the Jet Direct monitor entry. I did this, but it did not fix it.

I deleted all of her printers and just put the Panasonic on....same problem. I tried different port settings in the BIOS. No change at all. I ran service pack again, I ran Ad-aware, I deleted .tmp files and anything else I could think of to clean up her machine.

Ideas??? Help!!!

Thanks

I used an "elevated command prompt" (that is what it is named as a desktop icon)
Why is access denied?
Karen's directory printer produces an essentially blank sheet. Why is that?

Answer:"access is denied' DIR > PRINT.TXT

I tried the redirection with other directories, and stumbled onto the reason it didn't work for the optical disk I wanted a listing of. The dir > list.txt tries to write to the disk, which of course it cannot do. It is obvious to me now, but not at first. The mystery of why Karen's directory printer produced a blank remains.

I've long had a large problem when using Vista and now Windows 7. I get access denied problems when creating, accessing or searching for files that I have access to or should have access to. It is wasting a large amount of time and creating many problems, and has for a long time. I searched this site and did not find anything to solve this problem, and have searched the internet periodically and never found a workable answer.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium. I'm an administrator on the computer.

As an example, I went to Yahoo.com and chose "File..Print" for a test. In the dialog box I clicked "Print to File". The next dialog box asked me to provide a file name which I gave as "C:\TestPrint.htm". I then received a message "Could not open the file. Access is denied." with the title bar saying "Local Port". I looked under the Properties-Security tab for the C drive and Administrators have full control. Why am I denied access and how do I solve it?

I also run into this access problem when searching for files on my computer. When I search in file mgr (Windows Explorer), it does not search folders where access is denied at first. As an example, I was searching for a database (mdf) file. The search did not find the file. So I thought for a while and stumbled around the file mgr and found it in deep under several sub-directories. When I clicked on the folder where the file was, a message said access was denied and t... Read more

I am trying to fix my cousin's computer. It's a Dell Inspiron Duo and it's giving me the fits.

Here are the major problems with the computer

Cannot run executables in regular mode
Except in Safe Mode. They do work in Safe Mode.
Get this error message: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service" whenever I do in regular mode

Device Manage appears blank
Also in safe mode

USB Drives are not recognized
Also in safe mode. I had to use WinPE disk to read the USB drives and install the programs needed here.

Can see the wireless network but cannot access them.
Also in safe mode

So here are my log files:

Hi. I have a problem where my computer (as stated in the title) has no network acess/limited acess, even though I have all 5 bars of strength full. It also has a little yellow triangle with a *!* in it. If I reset the router, I'm connected for about 5 minutes, but then it goes back to the little yellow triangle thing. I only have this problem on one network. It works fine on any other network.

I have all the correct information entered(SSID, password, security type and encryption, stuff like that) so i'm 90% sure its not that.

When I ran the diagnostics, it said to investigate router or acess point issues and told me to reset the router, which, of course, I've tried millions of times.

I don't have IPv4 or IPv6 connectivity, if that helps.

The strange thing is, it didn't used to do that before this year. I haven't changed my computer at all, so its not that.

I don't know whats wrong, so I hope you fine people do.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm running windows 7 home premium 64-bit

If you can post a screen shot of your ipconfig/all it will help me to diagnose the problem.

Yesterday, i got some kinda of computer hijacker on my computer. Changing stuff and adding icons. After uninstalling it, and cleaning my computer with Ad-Aware, Mircosofts Anti-spyware, Spybot, and CWShredder (all catching stuff the other didnt). I have gotten my computer back to normal.

Everything is working fine....

expect when surfing the net and i try to acess Amazon.com or Ebay.com

My web browser will not allow me to go to either.

with ebay.com i get a "soon" message.

and more importantly (since i dont do ebay) amazon.comcomes up with a 403 error, saying that i am forbidden to have acess to the webpage.

Is there anything i can do that can get my computer to allow me to once again to go to Amazon.com. I have tried EVERYTHING i can think of from updating my internet broswer, to turning off firewall, to system restore - nothing works.

help!

thanks.

Alrigh so i have a Pavilion G6 laptop and I get the infamous 3F0 error (Or the bios 03F0) but when I boot it into safe mode I can still acess the internal harddrive and all that good stuff. I've tried reconnecting it, I've tried doing start up checks and even a disk cleaner (which was the first thing I did) and nothing is working except going into safe mode with networking to type it on here lol.

Answer:03F0 error but I can still acess hardrive?

The hard drive is crippled but not dead yet. Right now you can probably recover data from it. If you keep trying to use it even that will not be true. The hard drive needs to be replaced now.

I used to have Windows 7. I upgraded to Windows 10 about 2 weeks ago. It was only until after I installed it that I found out about the Nvidia driver errors. I have the MSI GT 610 installed. The first thing I notice on my home screen is the infamous screen resolution problem. I could only raise it to 1600x1200, I used to run on full HD 1920x1080. The second thing I noticed was there was a strange empty Shell dialouge box that says, "Critical Error" on the top frame. I can move it but when I try to close it the screen goes gray and I have to press ESC a bunch to get back to the Log In screen to sign back in, and even then the box is still there. Also, I cannot access the Start Menu, Recents, or Search Bar. My shortcuts on the start bar I can though. I can hover over them and press them but they do nothing. Today I set the BIOS to boot onboard GPU and removed the 610. It booted and installed updates but now there are large black bars on the side of the screen, and they stay that way even with a higher resolution which still isnt HD. Now instead of 1600x1200 as the highest, it's 2048x1536. Wtf? When I try to use the right-click menu on the desktop, it appears but when I press an app it (basically) says "There is no program associated with this action." How the hell can an install go so badly in so many ways?

Answer:No HD Resolution, Can't Acess Start Menu, Critical Error : Nvidia

I generally do clean installs to minimize messes coming from an upgrade.

Have you tried to download and install the drivers directly from NVidia to see if that would fix the issue?

I have an HP C5280 printer running wirelessly via a TP Link wireless print server and D Link Di 624 wireless router. I can print successfully from either my desktop (which is connected direct to the D Link router) or either of my laptops (wireless). However, when I select the double-sided print option I get a print error message after re-inserting the odd number pages to print the other side of the paper and then click 'continue'.

Could I resolve this by connecting the printer both direct to the desktop using USB AND leaving it connected via the wireless TP Link print server? This would enable me to print double-sided from my desktop (as I did before when the printer was only connected via the USB desktop port).

Probably, unless the USB connection is already used with the print server.

Earlier this week, our laptop popped up something suspicious, which sent me here. I was assisted, and as far as I know, the laptop was cleaned out. I ran an MBAM quick-scan, ran ATF or something, and an SAS full-scan, and all came back clean. The original topic is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/227843/potential-trojan-or-other-problem/I installed Avira Antivir, COMODO (firewall only), and Spybot S&D to monitor the registry in the future. For further malware intrusions, this is likely good. However, since installing S&D, Vista has been giving error messages (ie, "Microsoft HTML Executable no longer working," or "Microsoft NET Command stopped functioning" type things). However, the actions I initiate appear to work, despite these errors. In addition, and the real bugger today!, is the printer will print out a document, but the print queue will not clear that item from the spool, and the printer is useless unless we restart the machine. (Stopping the spool, clearing that folder, and starting it again without a restart does not work.) I figure two things, maybe someone here (I was recommended to come here from that forum) can help:1. something with the S&D registry monitor program messed with some needed files? (I have uninstalled S&D now and only need to clear out the ProgramData folder it has to rid my machine of it completely. Supposedly, there's a backup in there from when S&D was first run?)2. the malware/adware problem that I came here for... Read more

Recently my grandson allowed several viruses to enter my computer while he was on gaming. I was on the phone with Norton (I did not know about Tech Guy!) formore than 8 hours while they worked to salvage my computer. Go here, then click the "Download Now @ Bleeping Computer" button to download and save AdwCleaner.exe to your desktop.

If you get a warning that this file is unsafe to download, ignore the warning.

Close all open windows first, then double-click AdwCleaner.exe to load its main window.

Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.

Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts, so be patient.

Click the "Logfile" button.

When the log appears, save it.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.

After you submit the log, close AdwCleaner.

If a warning appears, click "Yes".

Was having trouble using the "print to file" function using the XPS writer in Windows 7 to print an online statement.
It would ask for the Output File name..eventually figured out that it requires the path to an actual file located on my laptop e.g. "C:\Users\Public\Documents\document.xps".
So create the file first ,then copy the address into the Output file name box....it worked for me.

Next problem is to convert XPS to PDF....sigh!

Hi,
I'm having an issue where when attempting to create a local port, on a remote PC via the Print Management Console in Windows 7, I get an "Access Denied" error message.

All machines are domain joined.Tried with W10 and Server 2008 R2, too - same issue.Firewall (all three states) off.AV solution completely removed.Tried with highest domain admin account.Tried with UAC turned off and on.Ran as admin when launching console.GP - Point and Print Restrictions - Disabled.GP - Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections - Enabled.Print and File Sharing - On.Network Sharing - On.
To clarify, it is simply creating the port element that fails.

Can create TCP/IP ports OK.Can create Local Ports on the local machine OK - just not on remote machines. Can install printer if an existing local port is used, so drivers install OK.Using PowerShell, can use the Add Printer Port command to add the local port, no problems there.
It just seems to be an issue where the console attempts to verify if the said port exists, that the issue occurs.  If a put in an invalid port name in, it will bring up the correct response of "the network name cannot be found".
Cheers!

sounds like you're on the right track with your security settings. Are you an administrator? You'll most likely have to have admin rights to install any sort of drivers. Check this in your user control panel.
