Preferred Solution: stuck on middel of the game.n have to restart or shut down..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi.
Just as the title suggests. After i press restart, it's stuck at "shutting down" for about 10 minutes (looks idle), and then there's a momentary BSOD and a restart. After it restarts, it gives me the option to start windows normally or in a safe mode.

My OS is W7 64 bit.
Quad core 2.5GHZ
Gforce 560 2GB
4 GB RAM

Thanks!

Hi All,

I have read many, many other threads that address infinite reboot loops, but none of the solutions have resolved my issue. I am hoping the community might be able to help me identify this problem.

I have just recently replaced my CPU and MB with the items listed below. After installing hardware, I ran KillDisk on the HDD, which will zero out the entire drive. The computer boots normally and will load into windows installation without issue. However, once Windows reboots to start windows for the first time, it is unable to do so. The load windows logo screen will load, and approximately right before Windows would normally load my screen goes black, the system turns off, sits off for about 1-2 seconds, and then turns itself back on and repeats this boot process. It turns off and restarts at the same time every time.

Steps I have done so far in an attempt to resolve the issue but failed with no change in the rebooting behavior:

1) removed all non-essential hardware (CPU, 1 stick of RAM, DVD drive, and Video card were the only things left), and tried reinstalling windows.

2) Swapping out one of the 2 RAM sticks I have to make sure it wasn't defective.

3) Trying to install Windows on a new harddrive to rule out that the HDD was defective.

4) trying to boot from the CD (After the initial install had partially finished) to see if HDD was related in anyway.

5) Installed a very simple DVI video card to see if ATI card may be the cause.

6) Resetting CMOS and rein... Read more

Answer:One initial Install Restart, Windows gets stuck in a restart loop

Sorry you are having these problems. You have already done the most logical things. If it's not the memory, or the video card, or the hard drive, and the only things you have changed are the cpu and mobo, then you might wonder if there is a problem with one of the two. You could always boot a live CD of Ubuntu to see how your computer responds. Or XP installation sounds like a great idea for a test.

Hey all. I have a Thermaltake V5000D case that has a lock on the front panel. One day I was just fiddling with the lock, turning the key back and forth (fidgeting problem I have sometimes), then it just stopped turning with the lock in the locked position and now my front panel is locked shut! I am very thankful that the the door wasn't latched or I wouldn't be able to get to the on/off button and my optical drives and stuff. But my front panel is still locked and I cant get to my fan filter. Also, my door wont latch shut because the metal latch on the lock is in the way of it closing all the way. This is very annoying and is going to suck when I have to move my tower around with the door swinging away.

I've tried turning the key in every position possible with every amount of force in my hand. I actually bent the crap out of one of my keys and cant completely straighten it out now. I've tried picking it and examined it with a flashlight for any obstructions in the hole. The next thing I can think of is mabye WD-40 on it because it seems the little levers in the lock are getting stuck when the key pushes them in and they dont come back down on top of the key. But I would like to ask you guys to see if anyone has ever had this problem and/or if you have any ideas to fix it. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Help! PC Case lock is stuck! Door is stuck shut!

Love to help but sadly thermaltakes website is not helpfull in schematics or decent pics of the area of the lock.... only thoughts I have are can you take the side panel off on the side nearest the lock and see if you can force the hook up? ( doesnt look like you can from another pic I searched for as the front panel is too flush to the side )

If you can from the inside of th ecase see the back of the lock its latch-hook is only attached by a big screw from the looks of it and if you could unscrew it you would get access to the front I have no doubt.

the pics I was looking at http://www.3dxtreme.net/index.php?id=thermaltakexvdv5000d2 ( 8th one down )

Sadly appart from a locksmith, this is the only suggestions I have at present.

my 86 year old cousin asked me to try and help her with her Candy Crush game Level 277. So I signed on FaceBook with her information and played her Game. Well when she signed on her Facebook page later that night it brought up my game of which I'm on Level 311. Last night I played my game just to see what would happen and my icon moved up the map when I passed the level but she is still at level 311. My game is fine. Hers is messed up as it presents itself as mine not hers. She is still on with my friends and she wants her game board back. We had a Half series of Freaky game switch. She switched but mine is fine. Her Facebook page is still hers but her candy crush saga is not. My computer is a Windows 10 not sure what hers is as she lives in North Carolina and I Live in Florida. I also played her game on my IPad. Which I believe is an IPad 2 not sure though.

Just throwing an idea out there since there has been no response to your problem ... have you tried system restore? Can you identify when the problem started? Try a restore back to a state before the problem occurred if possible. Another idea is to try sfc /scannow from the administrator prompt. That should indicate if you have any corrupted files and attempt a repair. It takes a little while to run, so be patient and DO NOT INTERRUPT IT.

I've had my windows 8 computer since December and for the past month or so it will not restart or shut down unless I do a hard shut down with the power button. When hitting restart it starts to shut down, then comes up with "restarting" screen and just stays there, never moves from there. On shut down it just freezes after closing down windows. Any idea how I can remedy this? It can't be good always shutting down via the power button. I haven't added any new programs at all so not sure why this started happening.

Answer:Won't restart or shut down

Start Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab.
Start shutdown and watch the Task Manager window.
See what processes don't go away.

After a bit, start closing them one at a time until shutdown completes on it's own. That will tell you what is hanging up the process.

When attempting a shut down, the process "Windows Logon Application" uses 100% of one CPU core, and the computer does not shut down. When I try to end the task, it asks if I want to abandon unsaved data and shut down. This is happening every time I go into Windows now. I used the reset button last time, and again it wouldn't shut down. I had to hold in the power button for 10 seconds to turn it off, but I can't keep doing that. Already had a look at power options.

Answer:Can't shut down or restart

Hello Aeed, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Are you closing and saving any windows that you have open before shutting down the PC? If not, then that could cause your PC to hang at shut down while it waits on the window(s) to be forced closed.
If so, then turn off Fast Startup as a test to see if that may be the issue.

Hope this helps,

PC will not shut down AND smoothly restart for Updates (Windows or Norton AV).I see "Windows is preparing updates" "Do not shut down your PC" but Windows just shuts down. The PC must be manually restarted AND the updates are NOT installed. Vista DOES restart with the Desktop button. But not with the Windows Update icon or the Norton Anti-Virus icon. This is a VERY RECENT problem. Since a few days ago. Since the most recent Windows Update Failed after several attempts.Windows "Restore Points" also do not work. I can only choose the MOST RECENT restore points. But it's a moot point. The restore point does not work anyway. This is an OLD problem.I just gave up. I have good and recent Back Ups on external drives. (Don't want to go there.)Internet Connection is 30 Mb, Primary Local Vendor. HP Pavillion, Vista Home Premium, AMD Phenom X4 9650, 8 Gig Ram, 640 Gig WD Hard Drive(1/3 capacity) Note: This is a US Computer operating in Japan. The Corsair (550 W) Power Supply automatically adjusts for this electrical current. Japan Current is 100V 50Hz. (Or 60Hz depending on E or W location)

Hey guys & girls,

I've been experiencing quite a few difficulties with my PC and have been trying all sorts of packages/software that I've seen suggested on other threads.

I seem to have fixed most of my problems, but... (isn't there always a but!). My Pc won't shut down or restart. I do the usual 'start' 'turn off computer' (or restart etc) but the Pc just won't shut down?!?!

However if I go in to task manager and manually close these>>> mdm.exe & mmx.exe then I can shut down/restart. On another thread I found out one of those exe's causing me the problem is some sort of debugging thing that can be disabled (which I've done) but both of these exe's still appear/start up each time I'm on and cause my hassle...

If anyone has any ideas or advice I'd be most grateful.

Thanks in advance,

EF.

Before you go saying do a virus scan, it's a brand new install.

Dell Precision M4300, Intel C2D 2.0ghz w/ 2gb of RAM.

Installed XP Pro SP3 along with the following, just like 1,000 other computers I installed the same setup on:

Flash 10
Reader 9
Java 6
Office 03
07 Converter
IE7
Drivers

Safe mode works fine.
Safe mode with networking works fine.
Anything else doesn't.

I edited the registry with a tip I found on google where the system will auto-shutdown processes that are hung. So we know it's not a hung process.

I doubt it's the drivers because I'm typing from an M4300 right now that I set up along side this one. I used the same pack of drivers.

Why is this one giving me issues??

Answer:XP won't log off, shut down, restart.

It could be that there is a different chipset on the mother board. Could have a newer Northbridge or Southbridge. Could be that the image itself didnt take. Which is not uncommon when ghosting that many machines that the image isnt accepted on 1 or 2 machines.

Could be that there is 1 part that is different that the image doesnt like and those drivers are what are causing the issue.

Are you 110% sure that the machines have every single part from the mobo to the sound card to the video adapter all EXACTLY the same. Not a single item different.

Cause without saying that, there is no way to say for sure that the image will be accepted without fault on every machine. Just because it is a M4300 doesnt mean that it doesnt have a different setup. Be it a different video adapter, northbridge or southbridge that can easily affect the image cause the drivers on that image do not match.

You best option is going to be either reimage, or to trouble shoot the shutdown.

My new computer, running XP SP2, generally works fine. However, 9 times out of 10, when I try to log off or shut down at the end of the day, nothing happens. I've trying all the different ways of shutting down I know of (Task Manager, Start Bar, etc.), but nothing has any effect. I can only turn off the computer by manually hitting the power button. And 1 time of of 10, this doesn't happen and I can log off without difficulty. Weird. Can anyone advise?

Setup: Win 7 home premium 64-bit laptop, i7 3610qm nvidia geforce gtx 660m

When i try to restart or shut down via start menu nothing happens. If i then click on the taskbar explorer crashes, when restarted a new one opens but the old one is still visible on the screen though i cannot interact with it. There are now two explorer processes running, the initial one that seems to have crashed cannot be terminated.

If i boot up into safe mode i can restart/shut down with no problem.
I have removed all peripherals and tried both on battery and on mains.
I have run scans with mbam, sas, spybot s&d and removed everything it suggested, though there was nothing significant discovered as far as i can see.
I have run a checkdisk on C: to no avail.
My graphics card drivers are up to date.
The only thing i have installed recently is a codec that allowed me to view .nef (nikon camera RAW image format) files, which i have now uninstalled, the problem persists.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Love this forum and always thankful for the help here. Hopefully this is an easy one.
I was able to solve this issue by resetting the BIOS to defaults. That did the trick. Thx for looking.

Fresh install of Vista Premium/Ultimate and most everything seems to be running fine. I'm relatively new to Vista so I guess I'm unsure how to fix this issue.

When I shut down the PC (Start>Shutdown), the PC will indeed shut down. All system process/hardware shuts down. The problem is, when I restart the computer after this shutdown, it will not start up. That is, all of the hardware in the computer is running, but I can't get the welcome screen. I just get the monitor telling me it's on power savings mode. I can wait forever and nothing more will happen. If I then hit the restart button, then everything comes to life. It will bring me to the screen saying windows was not shut down properly then options for safe mode etc etc. I start windows "normally" from there.
I also noticed a similar problem in sleep/hibernation mode. If the computer went to sleep I was unable to wake it. I could hear the PC running but nothing would happen. I would have to hit the restart button in order to get things going again. I recently adjusted the power savings mode so the PC won't sleep.
Any ideas as to what I can check?

Many thanks!

Question: Shut down/Restart

What is the difference between Restart and Shut down and starting again with the button on your computer? What I mean is; does the operating system do something different other than I have to push the button on shut down? i.e. after a update does shut down and starting with button on tower do the same thing a hitting restart?

Answer:Shut down/Restart

Using the power button on the PC has the potential of disabling Windows permanently.

Hi,
About 2 weeks ago my computer started doing random shut downs and restarts. No BSOD.
When rebooting it goes through a chhdsk, fixes some files and goes into win xp. Virus programs didn't show anything.
A few times it would go through this cycle again as soon as win xp started. Other times it would be OK for a while and do it again. Or it would be OK for a day or 2.
Even after the machine was shut off for a couple of days win xp made it to the desktop and shut down and restarted after chkdsk and was Ok for a while.

Thanks, glass

I haven't used this computer in about a month, but it doesn't shut off/restart when I start windows 7. It just says "computer is shutting down" and stays that way. A few things:

- I put my flashdrive in the usb and left it in today, but had the same problem without the flashdrive

- It will shut off at the log in screen, but that is it.

What did I do to cause this, and what do I need to do to fix it?

Answer:Windows 7 & won't shut down or restart

Try this Microsoft "Hotfix": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977307

I started out with a flashing battery icon. Ran diagnostics to see what it could mean. No problems were found. I contacted Dell. They sent out a tech who said I needed a new battery. Replaced the battery. New problem appeared. System was getting stuck in between sleep and hibernate. Dell sent another tech who replaced the motherboard and the heat sink. Did not solve problem. I changed power settings so system would never sleep if it is plugged in. Now I find that I cannot restart. System just shuts down, I have to start it again by pressing the power button. Dell tech walked me through deleting two partitions and re installing the OS from the recovery disk. Still can't restart in the normal manner. Thankfully I have an extended hardware warranty.  Dell tech support is "researching the problem."

Answer:System won't restart. Will only shut down.

I would leave it up to Dell to resolve...and not solicit 3d-party info on a system where Dell is already researching the situation.

I have an HP a6755y.

Last night I plugged in a USB card reader for my camera and the computer shut off.

Since then, I haven't been able to turn it back on.

I tried disconnecting everything, switching outlets, and and even using a different power chord. Nothing works.

The light on the back of the computer is green, yet nothing will turn on.

What is the problem?

Answer:My computer shut off after using USB, won't restart

Does the fans (i.e. CPU fan / PSU fan etc.) turns when you hit the power button?

Is this the system you have?

How old is this system? Please ensure that there is no dirt on the motherboard.

Are you comfortable about disassembling your system in case the above suggestion doesn't work?

For about 2 months, I have had to either do a forced shut down or restart to accomplish either, the system just will not restart or shut down, using the start/ turn off computer sequence. I have started in safe mode which will shut down, if I remember right, but normal mode still doesn't function correctly. No error messages are presented. the blue screen saying windows is shutting down just stays, even overnight.

Ever since I installed a USB 2 port to my machine, I can't get it to shut down using XP. I have to manually shut it down when it "blinks". That is the time between when it shuts down and restarts. Any thoughts on what to do other than removing the USB 2?

Hey guys, I'm back with another question.

My desktop PC has recently been giving me trouble while shutting down or during the shutdown phase of restarting.

What happens is that the monitor goes black, into standby mode. Then the desktop itself starts to beep. Not the monitor, but something inside the case. It goes like three beeps, then 3 second silence, then three more beeps. This happens for like 5 minutes. Then the beeps will get very fast, and it will go silent. However, afterwards, the computer just sits like that, still powered on, fans running, cpu working, but nothing will happen. THe monitor looks like it is still in standby, but moving the mouse, hitting the keyboard, I get no response. At that point I can only do the hard shut down, by holding down the power button, which gives me the shut down improperly message when I turn it back on.

Incidentally, I also cannot go into standby mode, it will go black, then the fan will suddenly go very fast, and the computer will turn on again.

I have a HP Pavilion, Nvidia 8800 series, intel viiv, on windows Vista home, service pack two. Also, everything else works fine.

Thanks in advance for any responses, and let me know if you guys need more info.

For whomever is out there, I have a problem concerning my computer's ability to restart/ turn off. The thing is, I noticed something strange last night with the computer last night. The first main concern was a windows security 2012 rogue virus trying to take control of my computer. I noticed that when I shut down the computer, the screen turned off as normal, but the cpu kept its green light and was still running. I had to hold down the power button to force turn it off. Fortunately, I used this link from this site to take care of the rogue:

Note that I did not use rkill or do a followup after running Malwarebytes. Plus, I receive a random pop-up maybe once per hour.I am also hearing a random doink sound that you would normally hear when clicking at an unavailable partwhen not even doing anything with the computer.
But anyways, I now have full control of my programs and internet and stuff, Which is good. But, all is not completely ressolved. I have to still deal with the problem which I believed was accompanied by the rogue at first, which was not being able to restart or fully turn off my CPU without forcing it off. I don't know why this is happening. Can someone tell me what the deal is and can it be ressolved internally or will it require repairs from a technician. Please let me know as soon as you can. Thank you.

Note: Used Malwarebytes to kill off the security 2012

I am running Windows 2k SP4. For the last couple of days I have been unable to shut down the computer. Every time I click "shutdown" I get a "restart". I am running this on a laptop, so short of removing the battery or letting it run down, i don't know how to turn the computer off.
If I do remove the battery, will this affect anything on the computer i.e. will i do any damage? I don't think so, but I'd like to have confirmation.
I have run Norton Anti Virus with no ill results, and also the freebe on MacAfee.
What o I do now?

Preface: I've had my yoga for over a month without any major issues.  This is my first annoying problem. I see I had a recent auto windows update today. Now I can't shut down or restart the computer. If I hold theh power button down, it just puts my computer into sleep.  I tried to uninstall the windows update but it won't let me without restarting the computer. Ha! Also, I ran msconfig and turned off all non microsoft. That did nothing. Mabye that should have been done for installing the update.  Not possible with auto update running. I'm stuck.  Advice would be appreciated.  Hopefully, I'm the only one with this issue after the recent update. UPDATE: After trying a system restore and it failing, I noticed that my widows update were somewhow now uninstalled. So, I reinstalled windows update by disabling non microsoft services in msconfig and it istalled sucessfully. More importantly, shut off and restart are now working.

I tried it again last night and this morning when I woke it was still on that screen. I have manually shut my comp down when I needed to. I usually leave my comp on 24 hours and rarely turn it off. The only time I do so is when Im gone for the weekend or I install things that promp me to restart the comp for the application to work properly.

when I shutdown the computer it restarts, this has been happening for a few days, there was an error message (I don't recall what the message was or what it was about) the only option was to click ok and since then the computer keeps restarting instead of shutting down, I have searched the web to try and find an answer but keep getting stuck because I am not a computer expert so therefore cautious and get a bit confused with some of the instructions. I have tried a restore to an earlier date and I have clicked to un click the automatic restart that seems to be the advice from most websites

I don't know what I've done but my PC will not now boot after it's been shut down. It starts the boot process but takes ages to get to the point where I need to enter a BIOS password but the keyboard isn't recognised so nothing happens. If I then press the Restart button then the PC boots fine and I can type the password and it then goes on to start up Windows XP.

A quick run down of some things that might be pertinent.

I have 2 external (USB) hard drives which I use for backup purposes
One of them powers down when the computer is off, the other is on all the time.
My BIOS is set to ignore all boot media except the hard drive.
I use a zero RAID array on my main hard drive.

Any ideas guys?

Answer:PC will not boot from Shut Down (only from Restart)

Resolved

Just thought I should post to say I've discovered what my boot problem was.

In the BIOS the OnChip Audio Controller had been set to Disabled rather than Auto. I must have done this when trying to resolve a different issue (although I don't remember!) but anyway, it now boots from Shut Down and Restart so all is well.

i am running xp prof.- 512mb ram - barton 2500 chip.Just recently the p.c. randomly shuts itself down.also if you click restart' when un-installing a program etc it will not restart. when you press the power button on front of p.c. nothing!the only way it will start up is if you switch off at back for 10 sec's and then press front 'start' button.the core temp is about 71 deg and i have never messed about in the bios to increase speed etc its running at 1466hz.norton doesnt seem to bring anything upany suggestions?

Answer:shut down and restart problems?

Your Barton XP 2500+ processor is running at the wrong speed, mercedesjb, it should run at 1833 MHz, so it seems that the bus speed is 133MHz at the moment, instead of the correct 166MHz. For a processor that's running so far below par, your temperature looks to be too high, possibly causing the shut down and restart problems. Look into your cooling first then reset the processor to the correct running speed.

Did an update a bit earlier today.
I told the update to do a restart.

However, upon restarting, the "currently connrcted to" icon in te system tray had an X, which would normally indicate a problem.

However, bothe LAN and WAN were working.

I did a shut down, and the icon was cleared up upon reboot.

Seems odd, n'est-ce pas?

The computer will not reboot or shut down. It goes to the blue screen that says simply Windows XP - not the screen that says Windows is shutting down or restarting. It hangs and hangs and the only way to shut it down is to remove power and the battery.

I've cleaned out everything - deleted old programs, cleaned the registry, etc. etc and nothing is working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I run XP with SP2 installed and have recently developed a problem with shutting down or restarting XP. On entering 'Start-Turn Off Computer-Shutdown/Restart' the process commences and then stops part way through. On rentering the 'Start-Turn Off Computer-Shutdown/Restart' the process then proceeds to complete ok. Any ideas?

Answer:My PC spontaneosely restart after I shut it down

You've given us very little info to work with.  What are you hardware specs?  What OS?  By "I changed windows for several times the issue resolved & get back again each time.", do you mean you formatted your hard drive and then installed Windows, or what?  In other words, exactly what do you mean by "changed windows"?How this problem been getting progressively worse, or did it start suddenly?  How old is your computer?  Make and model?  Have you ever opened it to clean dust out of the inside?  Any idea what temperature your processor normally runs at?  How many cooling fans inside?  Have you added hardware components since you've owned the computer?  What's the capacity of the power supply unit in your computer?

Good Morning Everyone , Got a bit of a pickle here that is driving me nuts:

Running Windows XP Pro SP3 OEM version, and for some reason I cannot get the computer to do a shutdown, restart, standby or even a logoff without forcing a disconnect from the Task Manager first. When I click one of them, it shuts down all services (Including my ability to get back to task manager, and any open programs) and sits there. I can still access the start menu and such, but nothing works, I end up having to do a hard restart via the button. Seemingly odd is that when I do a fresh install, it works until I put on the required Windows Updates, then it just starts acting up again. The most recent time I reformatted (less than a week ago) it worked fine even after I installed the most recent drivers for my hardware, but once the Windows Updates were on, it stopped working.

Here is the Hardware and Software info just in case:

Hardware:

-Dual NVidia 7900GS
-Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Series
-AMD 64X Dual Core Processor
-ASUS Motherboard

Software:

-Genuine XP Pro OEM (slipstreamed to SP3 recently, SP2 fresh prior times)
-Phoenix Bios
-No Burning ROM yet
-Firefox

Any ideas?

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing problems with shutting down and restarting my pc lately;

When I click "shut down"- everything goes well, then when it seems like the computer is off, it starts again. So basically it restarts instead of completely shutting down.

And, when I click "restart"- I get the famous blue screen (ugh!) and the computer freezes.

Can anyone please help?

For about 2 days now my XP hasn't been able to restart or shut down. I have ran my spywares, anti-viruses, scandisks and even system file checker but none of them have fixed it. It is probably because I had to turn my pc off due to a game crashing. Any ideas on how to fix it without re-formatting or doing a system restore?

When starting a DVD movie my pc will shut down and restart. I've updated directx and the video card drivers, turned the refresh rate down to 60hz.
Worked before reinstalling with factory ordered cd's of this model pc from HP.
Only 48 MB of available phiysical memory. Running XP.

Answer:PC shut off and restart when starting DVD

Hi Boo Radly

If Service Pack 2 wasn't on the Restore Disks you used, head right over to Microsoft & start getting up to date. This will take a few hours, even with broadband, because you will have to keep going back to Windows Update until you are completely up-to-date with the Critical Patches. Anytime you run a Restore set, make sure your firewall, antivirus, & antispyware are installed and active before you connect to any networks or the Internet. Might run some scans if they weren't - and if you weren't up-to-date on the patches for any length of time -- you'd have been vulnerable to attacks.

This will be good for both your stability problems, and for your security. Some video drivers require at least SP1 if not SP2 to be installed for them to work properly. Not to mention the multimedia players.

Also, make sure that the "restart on error" setting is disabled, so that you can see what error is causing the system to restart [you are likely getting a "Stop" error, and the system is restarting as a result]. Go to the "Start" button, right-click on "My Computer", then select "Properties", then "Advanced", then in the "Startup and Recovery" section - select "Settings" -- and in the "System failure" section = uncheck the option called "Automatically restart".

This should help display the error next time it happens.

How much system memory do you hav... Read more

When I try to shut down or restart my computer, the screen says "SHUTTING DOWN", then the monitor will shut off, the power light goes off on the tower but the fan speed increases to maximum speed and the unit will continue to run this way until I shut it off manually. When I attempt to turn the computer back on I get the same thing, the power light does NOT come on and the fan runs at maximum speed, nothing else happens, the monitor doesn't come on or anything else, it just "hums". I am not the only person having this problem, I know at least two other people who have the exact same problem! I was told that a faulty update from Microsoft is to blame for the problem I am experiencing but I can not find a "fix" for this anywhere. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Please help, I can not afford to buy a new computer at this time and other than the inability to restart, my computer runs flawlessly. All this trouble started about three weeks ago. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer me.
