Preferred Solution: my pc is taking time to start up beep sound,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: my pc is taking time to start up beep sound,

if its taking a long time before the initial beep, that will be the mobo check/bios/post running, that usually takes between a couple of seconds (mine)and upto 18secs (my sons).it maybe that you have incorrect settings in the bios, for the hardware you have connected, post your system specs that will help, also make sure you drive with the OS is set as the 1st drive and boot device, do not leave disks in the dvd/cd player.. if your using a ssd make sure the bios is set up for ssd, and that you have memory check set too off. see if that helps.i hate computers!but cant help myself....

Hi to all.
I m here again with a problem which I facing since long. when I start computer and launch FF. it takes too much time. no more then at least 50 sec to 1 minute. after start first time, if I close FF and start it again its its launch quickly. and the most funny thing is which is wonder me alot that FF itself know that and often after start FF, its says in status bar of FF that "FF taking too much time to start, to solve this problem follow the steps" (or something like that)
and FF suggest Reset firefox from FF button->Help->troubleshoot problem->reset firefox.
but this method did not solve the problem. FF updated regularly when new update available and the current version is,,,,,, 27.01.
my pc specs is in this forum.

Answer:FireFox taking too much time to launch first time after start pc.

Have a look here:

Try disabling all plugins on a temporary basis and see if Firefox starts faster.

Before trying to reinstall Firefox - backup your Firefox profile using:

MozBackup - Backup tool for Firefox and Thunderbird

Run the program and backup your current profile and save it as a .pcv file somewhere handy.

Then fully remove Firefox and either reboot or run a system cleaning product.

Reinstall Firefox and see if it boots faster. If it doesn't - it's not a problem with Firefox.

If it's okay - run MozBackup again and use it to restore the profile that you saved earlier.

Start Firefox.

Hi folks,
Recently my PC is taking a very long time to start up. It can be 10 minutes or more before I can open Firefox. I thought it was caused by AVG so removed that and installed Avast having failed to install Trend Titanium as it kept telling me my Internet Explorer was not up to date even though it was.
I gave up trying and installed Avast free version along with Malware Bytes though I now only have the Windows firewall. I looked at Zone Alarm and Comodo firewalls but both wanted me to make certain things my default so I didn't go ahead.
This morning having waited a long time for the PC to wake up, I restarted it and then it came alive quite quickly.
I have done full scans with both Avast and Malware Bytes and two issues were found by Avast and moved to chest. MBAM found nothing.
PC is Dell Dimension 5150 with 1 GB of ram running XP SP3.
Any thoughts on the above, folks?

Answer:PC taking a long time to start up.

Another couple of GB's of RAM for a start. I do not know how long you have had your PC but looking at the specs (P4 CPU) it is pretty old.
After adding more RAM you might want to think about a clean install of Windows XP + SP3. But that would require a bit of preparation.

Are others finding that AVG 8 takes longer to load at start up? I find it is taking about 2 minutes to load which is certainly slower than AVG 7.5.

Answer:AVG 8 taking long time to load at start up

that it has more features or is more bloated depending on your view. Hence it takes longer to get it up and running.

It takes a while for it to start and I tried this solution but it didn't work.

Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 9 take longer than expected to start

I tried the "IE9 (without add-ons)" from the start menu and it comes up pratically instantly.

I even tried to uninstall stuff from the "Program Files" that I think might be related to IE and it still didn't do anything.

I also removed all search providers and accelertors except Bing because it doesn't let you.

Please offer any suggestions.

Hi, folks.
Everytime I press the rest button in my case and Windows (is supposed to) load, after Windows 10 icon, it gets black. Once it got black for a looong time and I had nothing more to do than reset settings. So, I lost all my applications register (I'm having to reinstall them these days).
Now the problem is almost the same, but when I press the reset button (didn't try yet the button from Start Menu).
So, as I said, after a long time black screen, it finally starts up, still slow, and disk usage gets around 100% for some minutes (5 minutes, more or less).
So, that's not my first problem with Windows 10. I've had lots and lots of others (programs compatibility, Google Chrome extremelly slow, problems with native programs, etc.). I'd go back to Windows 7 if I could, but I've already deleted files from Windows.old.

So, what should I do to make my installation at least less problematic?

Thank you in advance.

I have been experiencing this problem for the last 5 days. I start the computer by first switching on the power output on my wall. After that when I press the power button on my cabinet, nothing happens. But if I wait for about 1 minute and then try again, the red HDD LED lights up and the fans start but still the computer doesn't start. After about 2 minutes the green LED lights up and I hear the beep and the PC finally starts. Whats the problem?

Thanks! Any help appreciated.

whereas it is working well in windows xp(within 10 minutes) . My jdk is version 6 update 20 , so no compatibility problem

Also , theres no problem , with netbeans.exe file because , the log files it generates are fine during start up .
There has to be some reason related to the platform
Could anyone suggest , the reason and the solution .

Thanks in anticipation!!

Apparently there are a few fixes:

Delete NetBeans related folders within your user directory
Run CCleaner
Turn off "to-do" scanning (just close the "Tasks" window and uncheck "Enable Java Tasklist":Tools->Options->Editor->Tasklist (if your ide already loaded).

Like the title says, I have a windows 7 dell laptop and it takes an extremely long time to startup.

It will either go to a black screen or login, if I get to Login I'll choose the account and it will go to a black screen and eventually turn off after an hour of a black screen.
Repair takes a couple of hours to run and after I restart i go through the first part again.
It claims there is no system restore point although there are def some on the computer.

Its really annoying, and I have no way to start the computer initially. Im doing a Memory diagnostic now, but I dont plan on it working.

Also, I have used a repair disc.

Answer:Win 7 taking an extremely long time to start up, if at all

Assuming this isn't a hardware problem (bad mobo, cpu, RAM, etc) are you able to get into Safe Mode? From here you should be able to run various repair tools like Startup Repair, System File Checker scan, Clean Boot, etc.

Safe Mode

Startup Repair

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Depending on the specific Dell model, you may also have a hidden recovery partition that can return your machine to factory specs.

I tried the "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" from the Start Menu and it comes up pratically I'm guessing it's a "hidden add-on".

Hi, i am using DEL Inspiron 15 since Feb'14 and there was no issue till yesterday, when my laptop wont start and is making beep sound (7 beeps) on power up. Can you please help.

Answer:My laptop won't start and makes beep sound

Seven beeps usually means CPU Cache test failure or Processor failure. I like to suggest removing the battery from system and see if that will make a difference. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off the system. Remove all peripherals from the system, remove AC adapter and then battery.
2. Press the "Power On" button for 15 seconds to release Static Flea Power. Replace battery, and adapter, and then power on system. Hopefully computer starts normally and there're no more beeps.

HelloRecently, my Lenovo G505 laptop has been taking 10-15 minutes to start up/boot to Windows. This all started Nov. 12th in the afternoon. Before then, the laptop had been working great. I put it to sleep for a couple minutes as I had to move to a different spot to work, but after that it started to take a long time boot up. I essentialy left the computer to run overnight and I woke up with a screen telling me there had been an error while trying to install an update and it gave me the option to restart the computer (it mentioned that most problems are gone after restarting) or to try and have windows repair it, or go to advance options. Not thinking about it, I restarted, and ever since then the laptop has taken 10-15 minutes to boot (and it take 20-30 to wake up from sleep!).After talking to a friend of mine who works on computers, told me to scan for viruses/malware, then to go to msconfig and only start up the programs I need, and then essentially run chkdsk. Chkdsk ran up to 12% until it restarted and booted to windows (it took 10 minutes to do so). He then said I should reinstall windows/restore to factory settings because there was something wrong with either an update or a program.I recently wiped everything (besides what was on the partition) and reinstalled Windows 8 (which is what it came with), but the problem persists! Does anyone know what could be wrong?

This is Varun from India. Could anyone please help me fix a problem which has been haunting me from the last two days. This problem is currently occuring in my satellilte Pro A200. Actually the problem is that there is a continuous beep sound from an internal speaker during start-up that is when the name TOSHIBA appers at the time of starting and moreover it freezes there right on that screen. But , I somehow kept using my system by pressing F5 or F9 and then letting it start manually in NORMAL MODE.

But, i can't keep doing this all the time. And moreover, this beep sound blows continuously only while starting the system and it goes on hanged up in the same screen until i press either F5 or F9. I kept restoring my system but to no use. Could any one please help me out in this.

Sincerely waiting for the reply.....

Answer:Satellite Pro A200: A continuous beep sound during start up and freezing

To be honest it is very strange issue. Is some external device connected to your notebook?
Have you tried to update BIOS to latest version?

Sorry but I believe in such case there is no much you can do. Maybe BIOS update, clean OS installation. That?s all.
Maybe you should contact nearest service and ask what it can be.

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi, I own a Dell Inspiron N5110 i5 processor laptop with 4 GB RAM and 500 GB hard disk. Its getting 14 months since I bought it.From the last few days, I could see that the machine makes beep sound on start up till the windows starts. The sound gets disappeared after OS starts. Especially if I turn on the lap from hibernation mode, some time rebooting also make the beep sound. However, I observed a similar low tone inside the system even when the machine is running. I have been using a cooler also to reduce the heat, all keys are working fine no thing is jammed, I have performed the dell H/W diagnostics test all the results were passed. Drivers are all updated, the processor fan i also running correctly. I am wondering what can be the reason.
Please do share your thoughts and suggestions about this issue.

Answer:Continuous beep sound from my Dell inspiron n 5110 laptop on start up ??

I have tried something from another forum that I found, but do not have the link so I cannot copy and paste or give credit to the poster.  This is what I did:
1) Unplug all power from the laptop
2) Remove the battery
3) Hold down the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
4) Reattach the battery and/or plug in the power supply.
5) Power on the laptop.
This solved my problem.

I have a DELL XPS laptop that makes beeping sounds and the screen is still black after I pressed the power button.
It makes 5 beeping sounds per interval and goes on until it shuts itself down. What should I do and who should I contact to help me fix my laptop?

Answer:My Laptop Makes Beep sound when I press power button and it wont Start

Hi AhLong
Thanks for writing to us.
5 beeps usually means CMOS failure, now it could be the battery failure or the motherboard failure. If your system is under warranty we can get it repaired or else you can check with a local Dell authorized repair center and get it checked.
You can try another CMOS battery if available.
Do provide us your system tag#, email address and name via private message.

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 15 5547.

4GB Memory
1TB Hard Drive
Intel Core I7 (Dont know what generation).

It happens when i open the laptop and fix the wire problem in WLAN. So I detached the parts in order...

Hard Drive
2x 2GB Memory Card

The reason i detached the parts because the wire of WLAN runs thru the monitor and i cant get thru to fix it unless i remove the monitor. Now when i put all the parts back in the descending order, i just got a beep and i got no display it just blank, I listen very carefully and got 4 beeps fading. Can you help me? Don't know what to do.

Answer:Making Beep sound 4 times repeatedly, when I press power button and it wont Start

4 beep sound may indicate a Ram failure according to source :
Try and reseat the RAMs. Or try to use 1 RAM to check which RAM is having faulty.

Answer:My inspiron 5010 makes continuous beep sound when I press power button and it wont Start

If it's a continuous single beep, it means the mainboard is bad.  If it's some other pattern such as four beeps - pause - four, etc., post the sequence and someone can help you interpret the error.

Answer:No sound on start-up, Win8 needs time to output sound

For start up sound go to personalize>sounds>at bottom of box place a check for "Play Windows Startup sound. With a laptop you probably are using realtek HD sound driver... you could look in task manager and see if it is turned on at startup, also in event viewer>windows logs>system and look at the time when you booted and see if there are any audio errors.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

I have got a Toshiba Satellite L100-130 (my first notebook and my first experience with Windows XP). When I start my computer I hear the Microsoft Windows XP Sound, but after that I have to manually adjust the sound volume, because it is set at 0 every time I started up my notebook.

I wanted to know if this is normal with Windows XP/notebooks or there is something wrong with... anything...

Answer:Satellite L100-130: Sound every time when start the computer

The Windows XP sound at the beginning is a normal issue.
All audio settings you can change under ?control panel? and ?sound and audio devices?

If you don?t want to have a sound while the notebook and OS starting so you can disable it under ?sound and audio devices? ? ?sound tab?
To change or to disable the sounds you have to change the settings in the program events window

Hello everyone, after using Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop for almost 2 years I decided to upgrade to Windows 8. The first day it was working fine,no problems at all. The other day I disconnected my USB mouse and it would keep on playing the disconnect sound, however, I solved that issue. Recently since yesterday whenever I would start my laptop and login, the windows start up sound won't play. It plays once I connect any one usb device to the laptop, but it will play the default usb connected sound with the latter devices. I ticked the 'play windows sound on start up' at the sound properties. Some help would be really appreciated.

Answer:Windows 8 start up sound plays at the wrong time.

What sound driver do you have installed? If you just have the Microsoft installed generic HD Audio Codec instead of the correct sound driver from your PC vendor that could be the problem.

Also, please fill in the "My System Specs" so we know what hardware you have and what we are dealing with.

Does anyone know where I can get or compare samples of music online that range from the best quality to the average so that I can perhaps decide what is best for me. Some background - I have the remnants of a half decent Hi-Fi system with a decent amp and speakers and have a quality sound card for the computer (Creative SB X-Fi Titanium HD) and after having listened to vinyl for decades I hope I can still appreciate the difference between good and average quality even at my age. I gather that EAC is thought of as perhaps the best option for ripping CDs and would like to know if it is worth the effort over simpler methods. From what I have gleaned from various forums it is essentially down to your own hearing ability. The storage aspect doesn't bother me as I don't tend to play my music on mobile devices that much.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Sound samples before I start ripping - wouldn't want to waste my time

A "wav" file is a full fidelity file. Any compressed type file, e.g. MP3, FLAC or whatever is "something less than full fidelity". How much less depends on the compression. I don't know of anyplace that has a comparision between different file formats. The best option would be to make them yourself and then compare to see if you want to use one of the compressed formats or stay with the full fidelity wav file.

Another thing to consider, if you convert a wav file to some compressed format, you cannot recover the full fidelity if you convert it back to a wav file; it will be at the fidelity of the compressed file.

The "best" option obviously is the wav format.

I have a computer based recording studio.

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

Is there anyway to speed up this process?

I have:

Windows XP Service Pack 2
GeForce 4 MX Ti 4400 128 MB
512 Mb DDR Ram
Dvd Rw drive
athlon xp 2200 1.8 Ghz

Answer:Long time before beep on booting up

You'll have to look in the bios for options. It may have a option to skip memory test, or fast post, or something like that.. Also, while your there, check the boot order for your drives.. You can significantly speed up booting if you tell it to boot from the hard drive first before checking other boot options.

I'm a first time pc builder from the Netherlands, and I'm having trouble getting my setup to work. I'm using these components:

ASRock P5b Pro
Intel E5300 cpu
GEIL 2x 1GB DDR2-800
GeForce 6200 PCIe
IDE Samsung hard drive
Some generic dvd-rom drive, also IDE
300W power supply...

So, the problem. I hooked everything up according to the manual (except the green power LED, since there's only two pins on the mobo to accommodate the plug, while my plug requires three pins), turn the machine on and everything comes to life. Fans, hard drive, dvd drive... even the hdd led blinks accordingly. Everything seemed to work, except there's no beep, nor is there any video. So I tried to isolate the problem.

What I tried
reseated the processor, heatsink and fan. I discovered that the thermal pad on the heatsink had melted, so at least the cpu is doing something... I have no reason to believe the cpu is faulty;
reseated the ram, as in lifting out one ram module to see if I might have a faulty module. I also removed both, as the mobo tends to alert you there's no ram installed. Didn't help either;
reseated the video card. The P5b Pro has no integrated graphics, it relies in a single PCI-e slot. I know the video card works properly in other machines, but still I reseated it. To no avail;
I plugged out all power drainers: the hdd and dvd drive. I thought it might be too much for the PSU to handle. Nothing;
I removed the CMOS battery and replaced it ... Read more

Answer:First time builder: no post/beep/video

It now works! I cannot explain what happened, but it now works perfectly!

So, I went to a local computer store and bought a 450W PSU. Very cheap, but it looks nice and it has a 120mm fan built in. I switched out the old 300W PSU, connected everything... but it still would't turn on.

Then, I had the idea to switch the hdd LED plug with the power LED plug. So now, the hdd light functions as a power light. That way, at least I could see if the computer is actually on or not. I didn't expect it to make a difference, and I was right.

Next, I dug up an old CRT display. Maybe there was picture, but the DVI port on my graphics card was broken. So I hooked it up and I once again fired up my computer. The fans started spinning, and then they suddenly stopped. The first thing that came to mind that my brand new PSU broke down or something. So the next couple of seconds I just stared at the mobo, when all of a sudden, everything got back to life. Fans started spinning, everything. Then there was a loud BEEP! I looked at the screen, and I saw the ASRock splash screen, followed by a message saying there are no bootable devices. I jumped in the air with joy!

Now, next I hooked up my IDE hard drive, but it appears my mobo doesn't play well with IDE hard drives. It has no problem seeing the dvd drive though. So I guess I have to get a Sata drive now, no big deal. And a much better video card as well, especially since I now have 450W at my disposal.

Thanks anyway for readin... Read more

I'm running XP.

Up until around 2 days ago the PC was running great... well... normal...

The computer loads ok up until after the login screen. Once logged in, the computer takes a real long time to do anything. Loading of icons, antivirus... everything.

Initially when I first encountered the problem Norton Antivirus reported that my subscription had expired; even though i still had 180 days left. Now that doesn't occur anymore.

All it does is think... well... nothing... try to open outlook... and there's just the arrow with the hour clock... and no reaction - seems like it hangs after a while - can't get any programs to work - no response...
Attempted solutions:

Boot in safe mode seems fine... ran virus scan... detected no viruses.

Created a new user - but still same problem

If anyone reading this has any idea as to what happened with the computer... it would be appreciated if a reply were posted...

I'm not having much luck trying to resolve this issue. For the interim i can only use the computer in safe mode... but unable to print...

Any input would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:My computer is taking its time

Having any symantec/norton programs installed always leads to poor performance. Numerous processes, tasks, and services are loaded into the background which severly degrade your PC's performance. In my opinion it is essential to uninstall Norton anti-virus (if it allows you to) in order to maintain your PC's performance. It's entirely up to you to leave it installed but this is just fair warning.

In regards to your recent slowdown, go into safemode as you were. Click start, run, type msconfig, go to the startup tab and untick everything you see, click apply, then close. reboot your computer and let us know if it's any faster.

The reason you can't print in safemode is because safemode does not load printer drivers and many other device drivers into the kernel. If it did, that would defeat the purpose of safemode.

You also might want to try booting into "safemode with networking" and going to and performing an online virus/malware scan with NOD32.

i have a good ram, processor ...even though its getting late to shut down nearly 5 mins.......
please help me out.....

Answer:Taking a lot of time for shut down .....

Nearly 5 mins ?

Is it a new system , or an older one ?

If it is new, it may be windows updates that are installing at the time of shutting down . Also make it sure that no unnecessary programs are running in the background .

If it is an older system, and sometimes it took normal time to be shut down, you may restore your system to an earlier date .

Also if you use any customizing program like alienware, it wil take a time to shut it down .

dell vostro 1510, 1GB RAMRuns perfectly until you watch too many videos, then suddely it goes into Very Slow mode and task manager window shows that taskmgr.exe is hogging most of the CPU time. Even when all applications have been closed, it cranks on, doing something that it chooses not to reveal to me. Only solution so far is to shut computer down, if necessary with the power button, and restart.

Answer:taskmgr taking 50 to 100% CPU time

I'm working on a customers Windows Vista computer that was badly infected with all sorts of adware and other malware. After manually removing some of the most obvious offenders with RevoUninstaller, I then proceeded to run MalwareBytes.
MalwareBytes ran for over 40 hours and seemed to be hung up with processing temporary internet files (I could see the filenames changing so figure it was still working albeit very slowly), so I finally aborted the scan and had it clean up what it had found to that point. Then rebooted the system.
Thinking that the next thing to do would be to run TFC and see if I couldn't get rid of some of that internet history (so I could then re-attempt the scan and hope for a successful completion). I started that running from my flash drive as I usually do. It seemed to run fine processing through some of the user accounts but when it got to the user account that is used most of the time and finding 137GB (yes I said gigabytes) of temporary files it seemed to hang there. The disk activity light seems to be on solid and nearly 15 hours later there doesn't seem to be any progress and the program title bar now says that the program is not responding. There has been no noticeable change for the last 12+ hours.
I would have expected with that much to delete it would take some time and wondered what that might do to the Recyle bin, etc., but does this sound normal????
At this point, neither the desktop or any Windows menus, etc. are ... Read more

Running Luna OS elementary. Have Midori and Firefox as my browsers. If I do not type something that can specifically be found in the internet (I can be off as little as one letter), then time warner search page comes up. I do not want it. I had this a year ago on my android and I do not remember how I got it off. Time warner is supposed to give you a soloution but when you press on their opting out it says that your IP is locked and will not allow new information. Anyone have a solution? I have google it, but if I put the words Time Warner anywhere in my search nothing but good things about Time warner come on, so they have by overwhelmness of websites have taken over the searches also.

Answer:time warner taking over the navigation bar

It could be as simple as changing your DNS settings. Luna is based on Ubuntu so here are the instructions
for changing your DNS settings to use OpenDNS. I've used for years in Ubuntu. If that doesn't resolve the problem then
post back with a list of Add-Ons/ extensions in Firefox.
Right-click on ‘Network Icon’ (located at top-right panel by default) and click on ‘Edit Connections’ to open Network Connections Manager
Choose the type of connection you have. As I connect via WiFi my screenshots refer to show ‘Wireless’ however the dialogue for ‘Wired’ connections have the same options needed for this in the same places.
Under ‘Wireless’ or ‘Wired’ highlight the connection you use (normally prepended with ‘Auto’) and click on ‘Edit’.

Inside the editing window that opens click on the ‘IPv4 Settings’ tab
Under ‘IPv4 Settings’, change the ‘Method’ to ‘Automatic (DHCP) addresses only’

Put these name server addresses as your ‘DNS Servers’:,

Click ‘OK’ and reboot.
Now visit the link below to to confirm you are using OpenDNS

HiI used to send all my emails straight from my Outlook Express, or when i used IE, i'd click on the 'envelope' icon. For some reason the latest version of Firefox hasn't the option of writing a new mail, unless i right click on a webpage, click on 'send link', delete the link & write my mail!!However when i do this, the rectangular, thin 'connecting' box shows & it can take up to 45 seconds for the green line to appear & it connects & says sent!If i send from OE, it goes straight away!Does anyone have a clue why this happens & why FF doesn't have a 'send mail' option, i'm sure it used to!CheersGaz

Answer:Emails taking time to send!

"For some reason the latest version of Firefox hasn't the option of writing a new mail...."It certainly has (I'm using Firefix3 beta4)- I use it frequently, and it works fine.Check in Outlook Express - Tools - Options that Outlook Express is the default Mail Program (bottom of initial window)

Hopefully I get this correct but I have been reading what could cause my IE 8 to take a long time to close. I ran HighJackThis and here is my output. I am hoping someone can tell me if there is anything out of the ordinary that could be the culprit.

I have a virus of some kind - think it is in my IP stack - invisible copies of notepad, srvhost, presentationhost, cmd all running in task manager, CPU goes to 100%.
Trying to scan with ComboFix now, for the last five hours in fact, it seems to have stopped at the bit where it tells me that it will take 10 minutes or maybe 20.
The hard drive is going like the clappers, so I am reluctant to stop, but there comes a point - doesn't there?
Should I stop it and restart with the NOMBR option?

Answer:ComboFix - Taking a very long time...

As a general policy, Bleeping Computer does not offer advice on how to run ComboFix unless we asked someone to run it or if there is a problem with the computer caused by running the tool. We recommend that people should not be using ComboFix without being advised to do so by a trained expert (see here) who is assisting them deal with a malware problem. When issues arise due to complex malware infections, problems running ComboFix (i.e. stalling, hanging, crashing) or with other security tools causing conflicts, experts are usually aware of them and can advise what should or should not be done while providing individual assistance. With that said, there are circumstances ComboFix will hang, crash or stall at various stages due to malware interference, failure to disable other real-time protection tools or the presence of CD Emulators (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) so that it does not complete successfully. Also, depending on how badly a system is infected, ComboFix may take longer to complete its routine than it normally does or fail to run properly. While that is not normal behavior, it is not unusual. In such cases, it is helpful to know at what stage ComboFix stalled/crashed and to provide that information to the Helper who is assisting you so they can investigate. Using Task Manager to stop ComboFix's related process usually is enough to abort it.Open Task Manager and look for the following ComboFix related processes (some have a .3XE extension):PEV.exeNi...
