I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I added a new 500 gig external drive to a server several months ago to use as a secondary backup device. We use a DAT drive as our primary.

I backup 3 boxes to this external drive, starting at 8:00 p.m., and allow 2 hours for each backup. I haven't gone back in the event viewer to see exactly when this started, but I get this message now at the times those backup routines start.

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR4 during a paging operation

There is only 1 internal drive in the server and it is HardDisk1. Number 2 is this Seagate FreeAgent USB drive.

Anyone have any ideas as to what that message really means? I can manually copy data to it and erase data from it.

I have noticed however; that some of my backups aren't executing at times on those 3 other boxes for what ever reason.

I'm wondering if this drive is going into a hibernation routine or something like that....

Thoughts?

TIA

I have windows xp. When I try to open quicktimeplayer, i get "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert drive device\harddisk2\dr4"

I Can't even cancel out that message from my screen.

Help, please

Answer:device\harddisk2\dr4

I believe Quicktime may be searching for a card reader of some sort. If you have one, plug it back in. It's looking to the last location of files it played. To make it forget, keep trying to get the message to close. With the Quicktime Player open, Click on File, Open Recent, and Clear Menu.

If you can't get the error message to close, go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quicktime

Rename the file: QuickTimeFavorites.qtr

I would upgrade to the most recent version.

/device/harddisk2/dr3, what does this mean?

Answer:/device/harddisk2/dr3

Hi and welcome to TSF The error for devices/harddisk/dr3 is usually associated with an external USB connected device. To determine what device is the problem one, open Disk Management and look to see what the 3rd hard disk is. The Disks are listed as Disk 0, Disk 1, Disk 2. Disk 2 is the 3rd Disk

I've been having that error pop up on several applications ever since I plugged my Samsung Messenger III into my computer. I firmly believe the problem is not a virus because I have searched the error and people have been having problems with memory cards not installing or whatever.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Answer:\Device\Harddisk2\DR4

Samsung products, in my experience, especially their software, is/are below par. And often non-intuitive. So I'm not surprised you're having a problem.

What is your pop-up error? Same one for each app?

What machine (Brand & model) are you running XP on?

Do the problems with your apps go away when you uninstall the Samsung software, or is it embedded in the phone?

Well I'll go straight to the point then. Everytime I plug my flash drive into the USB port, I get this message: There is no disk in the drive. Please Insert a disk into drive \device\harddisk2\DR4. I've tried every possible solution, but none work.

Any ideas would be appreciated greatly.

I am having a hard drive issue and im hoping its just a couple bad blocks that can be fixed via low level format heres the error message though. If you think I am screwed let me know cause its a game clients fault that this started happening never had the
issue before until I installed said game client.

Answer:The device, \Device\Harddisk2\DR2, has a bad block.

In my experience, which spans 3+ decades, a disk drive reporting a bad block is doomed to failure, and not too long from now.
Do NOT continue to rely on this drive!
If you don't already have full System Image backups, make a fresh one now, while you still can (while the bad blocks are being recovered).  Don't overwrite any older backups, either!  Buy a new MyBook external USB drive if you have to - they're
not expensive.
You might want to attempt a full backup BEFORE you try a CHKDSK operation.
CHKDSK will stress already weak/failing hardware, and you might lose everything.  I've been there, done that.
And when you consder what replacement drive to buy, keep in mind that with an electromechanical device you get what you pay for.  I recommend getting only top of the line, high MTBF drives such as the Western Digital RE4 series.
They're a bit more expensive (but not insanely so), and consider the cost to you, even just in time alone, of complete loss of your data.

Problem is this Event ID 11 error whenever I plug in a USB flash drive or external USB hard drive
There are no red x or yellow exclamation marks in Universal Serial Bus Controllers section of the Device Manager.
All devices are USB 2.0 and the motherboard, ASUS M2N-MX has USB 2.0.
The devices seem to work (but sometimes slowly), but the error pops up everything a device is inserted in any of the 4 USB ports
Under the USB section
one USB Root Hub has 8 high speed ports
the other has 5 full speed ports

But the computer only has the 4 USB 2.0 connections

This error has to be the most frustrating I have yet to come across. There are tons of writings on this but you never really get anywhere that is understandable to me and most of the folks that have had the same error. I know what device that is causing this because it only happens when I have either my Verbatim external drive or any one of 5 different USB sticks. I am running Windows 7 x64 with a Corsair 220 gb SSD. I have a second hard drive which is all data. I call it my D:\Drive. Everything in Event Viewer is great until one of the USB or Verbatim external drive is plugged in and then the errors start. I have run chk /dsk on all USB's and the external drive and no help. There are no BSODs or Hangs or boot problems, so you may ask why I'm concerned. Well I believe there has to be some sort of explanation for this error and I really would love to get to the bottom of it before it is an issue. It's strange that all the articles from Microsoft that concern this really say nothing. Nothing simple anyway. If anyone is familiar with this error and what it really means please let me know. I actually took this to a repair tech and he said if it's not giving me problems don't bother with it. Glad I didn't have to pay for that.

Answer:The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR3.

Hard disk 2 would be your third hard disk, or potentially the USB disk. There might be a problem with the USB driver, or hardware (controller).

Have you tried plugging in the USB drives into other USB ports on the machine? Do you have another computer that you could plug these devices into? That would rule out damaged USB devices that may have been damaged by a faulty port on your PC.

Hello!

Today I looked through the Event Manager Utility of Windows XP and I've seen this error there, about 15 times.

The device, \Device\Harddisk2\D, has a bad block.

Event 7.

Does this mean that I have a bad on my HDD or could it be some error, like windows can't read a corrupted file?
Thank you!

Answer:The device, \Device\Harddisk2\D, has a bad block. - Event 7 in Event Manger.

Backing it up and reformatting it may help. Before that, error check it.

Right when I log onto a particular Win 7 x64 system that performs as a file server I get a System Error 11 logged:

The specific drive is a Western Digital 2 TB MyBook 1140 USB drive attached via USB3 connection, and apparently has something to do with being spun down.  It won't log the above error if it's already spun up.
The system drive is a RAID 5 array of SSDs managed by Intel RST.  No part of RST seems to even know about the backup drive, so I doubt this is an issue.
I'm not sure why Explorer or anything should be trying to access this particular drive when I log in, nor why it being spun down should cause an error even if something does access it.  It's a pretty lean system, without very much that runs upon
logon.
I have the latest Western Digital drivers, and the drive is otherwise perfectly healthy.  Every 3 hours a backup runs and it logs no errors at that time - just when I log into the system interactively, either by RDP or locally on the console.
I prefer to have my systems run error-free, and this is one of two classes of errors I'm trying to eliminate (the other being a recurring registry access error logged by Microsoft Security Essentials, which seems unrelated).

Any ideas?

My new DELL laptop came with a little zip-lock bag containing a thumb drive. Since it did not come with any instructions I had to go online to find out what it is and how to use it. But DELL backup (using the reboot then F12 key) says it will NOT work unless the drive has at least 16 GB of empty space. DELL has sent me an 8 GB drive, which is useless. I'm guessing I've paid for this little drive but I need what DELL says I need - a 16 GB drive. If I ask will DELL mail me the correct one? I have the WIN 10 OS.

Answer:The backup device that DELL sent with my new laptop is 8GB. DELL says I need a 16GB device.

It is probably used to recover the system.  If you try to create a recovery drive, it will erase the one you have..
Does it have files on it and is it labeled when you look at it in Explorer?

Hello! Hello! Hello!
It's been years since I've actually posted here but now I need some help.

I recently had to replace my PSU on my ZT desktop ... which I researched how to do in these forums. Success!
Unfortunately, I started my research after I had already restarted my computer many, many times ... which I later learned can cause further damage to other components in my computer.
I had read somewhere here about checking the Event Viewer ... which I did before replacing the PSU.
I didn't understand all that was in mine, but I jotted down a couple things. One that had reoccurred several times was
Event ID: 7 Source: Disk \Harddisk2\DR2, has a bad block.

Anyway, after I installed the new "identical" PSU, everything seemed to be fine. But, that "bad block" thing kept bugging me. After learning what I could about it here, I decided I needed to do something.
Seeing as everything seemed to be working fine' I decided to do an "image" backup thing. I've had a ClickFree C6 for months and finally ran the full system image/backup thing last night.
At the end, the ClickFree indicated it was successful. So I unplugged the ClickFree and tried to shut down the computer.
It started to shut down ... then I got a black and white screen filled with a bunch of info. It was late and there was no way I could remember everything I read or even try to write it down.

The one thing I somewhat remember was something about doing a Cr... Read more

Hi,I have just bought a second hand Dell XPS 13 9343 from Ebay.Having looked in device manager there are two unknown devices under Other devices as can be seen:
The two unrecognised are:1) PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller
Which brings up the following in properties:

 2) Unknown device Upon further inspection of the Unknown device I found the following which doesn't appear to result in much when googled:

Now as far as I have seen from using the laptop for 2 hours or so everything on the laptop seems to work but I would love to know what these two mysterious devices are that appear to be missing driversThanks for your help

Answer:Dell XPS 13 Unknown Device in Device Manager

Under the Details tab, choose the "Hardware IDs" dropdown option and post (or Google) the VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx string.  That usually gives enough to point you in the right direction.

Hi to all.

On my Dell OptiPlex 755 E6550 2.33, I've had intermittent issues with the headphone socket suddenly stopping working for quite some time, sometimes problem is auto detected and fixed, sometimes I download a driver or three to resolve. This time nothing is helping no matter what drivers I've tried. Have Win 7 Ultimate installed with just on-board sound. No sound or audio shows up in device manager? Are 755's fickle with on-board sound or just too many sound drivers installed? Any ideas please.

Answer:Dell OptiPlex 755 No Audio Output device and no Sound/Audio in Device Manager

There could be multiple hidden audio devices.
* Press windows key + R* Enter cmd, click OK* Type cd\ [press Enter]* Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 [press Enter]* Type devmgmt.msc [press Enter]* Once the Device Manager opens, open Sound and see if you have multiple grey out items. If yes, delete them, then restart the computer and retest

I am a novice to technical pc issues so here goes. I have a Dell Inspiron 570, AMD Athlon 630 Processor running Windows 7.
On start up I get a No Boot Device Available. F1 does nothing but tell me the same thing so if I switch off and start up again press F2 I get Bios Set Up Utility, press escape and enter and windows starts.
I searched on the internet and found out how to do a diagnostic check which took hours but found nothing. I then went to Dell help and did a diagnostic check, also found no problems. I also did a system restore.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Dell no boot device available

So just to confirm, you are able to boot into Windows successfully?

If so, I'd like to try another diagnostic check.

This isn't specific to my laptop as I get the same message on my desktop, and a second laptop. When I try to connect my Galaxy S6 Active to any of them, they see the connection, but I get the Unrecognized USB Device message. I have tried all of the fixes I've found online. Phone is set to MTP. When I connect the phone to the only HP in the house, it sees it, and I'm able to backup files from my phone onto that system. Has anyone found a fix for this problem yet?

I got a Dell XPS 10 as a hand-me-down a couple of weeks ago. I got a 64 GB SDXC memory card for it and I absolutely love it. The thing I am trying to figure out is how to connect USB devices to it since it has a microUSB port. The two devices in question are my digital camera (it has an option not to draw power from the USB connection) and my wireless keyboard.
I went to a computer store for a microUSB to USB adapter but all they had was a USB OTG cable (which I already have). Will this work? I ask because IIRC the USB OTG is wired differently than a regular USB cable.
PS
Windows 8 RT has been the first tablet experience I have had (we have owned tablets since 2011) that I can actually say is a full desktop replacement.

Does anyone know what to do so that the laptop just routes audio to any device i plug in? Its a maxx audio pro/realtek hd problem I think. It's really annoying.

Have Inspirion 6000 Dell laptop...start up screen says no bootable devices...I do not have any original installation discs. What can I do?

Answer:No bootable device Dell laptop

Not a lot really...

its a good chance the HDD is knackered or its worked loose in its cradle.

if its possible remove and replace the HDD and see if it fixes it.

if not then its stuffed and needs replacing and reloading.

an I6000 takes a 2.5" IDE HDD and cost about 30 - 40 on ebay, your then going to need a copy of XP, if your machine has a licence key then you can borrow a disk from a friend or PC shop and use that to install XP

So the main reason why I'm writing this thread is because I'm pretty fed up. I've purchased this $2000 laptop at the beginning of this year because of all the rave reviews. Throughout the first 4 months, i've had to deal with freezing issues where my laptop would freeze after 2-3 hours and I had to force shutdown. It took them 4 months to fix this issue.
Now yesterday when I tried to boot up my laptop, I got this message "No bootable device found" after the Dell logo. I've searched through the forums thinking that I'd find a solution, but none of them worked. I came across a thread in reddit saying that I had to re-add the windows boot manager. That worked, for now.
I don't know what kind of updates you're giving us, but I've ran out of patient for all this ***. Get your *** together Dell.

Answer:Dell xps 15 No Bootable Device Found

I'd suggest you run Dell Preboot Diagnostic tool on your computer to check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off computer
2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping F12 key continuously. you should be in the diagnostic screen. After the quick test has completed then I also suggest you run a 'Thorough' test on the hard drive. Please report back any error code.

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz, x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 2

Sound used to work without issue & then it just disappeared.
I thought it was the onboard sound - so I disabled in BIOS & installed a new SIIG SoundWarve 5.1 PCI card today. w/drivers
Still no sound - can't figure this one out.
Control Panel- Sound & Audio Device Properties - has "No Audio Device (everything else is grayed out)
Services are started & set to automatic. I stopped & restarted several times
Device Manager - for Sound, video, and game controllers: all devices working - no yellow question marks
Speakers are plugged in to the correct jack & powered on (& they do work on other PC)
Don't have a restore point to do a system restore.

I've read thru hundreds of posts....... Please Help !!!!!

Answer:No Audio Device - Windows XP SP3 Dell

What exactly is listed in the Sound Video And Game Controllers heading in the Device Manager?

Go back into the BIOS and see if there's a setting to enable or auto-detect add-on cards.
I'm also wondering if disabling the on-board sound has affected the add-on sound card.

So I was trying to install Fedora on my computer and ended up messing my computer up.  Partitioned my hard drive and installed it to the partition but when I restarted it, the no boot device available showed up.  I was able to load Fedora by going through Legacy boot.  And on Fedora I looked at my hard drive and it still says there is a 887mb partition which should be windows 8, I just dont know how to get to it.  This happening shows I don;t know too much of the technical side of computers, but I will do my best to answer any questions from anyone willing to help. Thanks

Answer:Dell Inspiron 660 - No boot device available

Hi Jason040888,
Windows 8 work in UEFI mode, not in Legacy mode. It appears that the Windows 8 partition is corrupted. I would recommend you to reset the BIOS settings to defaults and try restoring the system back to Factory Settings.
Note: Please backup the data as this process leads to complete data loss.
Below are the steps to perform PC Restore in Windows 8:

Shut down the computer.
Power On the system.
Power Off the system at Dell Logo with “rolling dots” at the bottom of the screen.
Repeat the above steps 2-3 times/.
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click the Dell Backup and Recovery icon.

Hello,
I've got a Dell Inspiron 5520 laptop I purchased new only a few months ago. Several times I've gotten an error re "no bootable device", usually after a reboot (I don't often shut it down unless required to by updates) but also sometimes after a hard crash caused by as-yet-unknown factors.

A bit of research has shown me that I should do some HDD diagnostics, but I can't positively determine the disk manufacturer. The disk is identified as a ST50LM022, which I think is a Seagate, but the Seagate website doesn't acknowledge this as one of their hard drives.

Can someone please help me fix the problem?

Hello everybody,
I've been using a Dell Venue 8 Pro the original version with 32gb storage and 2GB RAM which i got for $100 during one of the Microsoft 12 days of Christmas sale events a few years ago. The device runs Windows 10 fine and for my uses I can live with the limited 32GB storage (thanks to the MicroSD card slot), it is getting a bit long in the tooth and a bit beat up which has me looking into a replacement.
What I'm looking for:
- Slab style tablet with at least 2 USB ports (they can be micro/usb-c or full size)
- At least a 1080p screen (1920x1080)
- 8-9 inch screen.
- No proprietary power brick (device needs to charge via the USB ports)
- dual or quad core CPU (I would prefer something other than an ATOM CPU but can live with one).
- minimum 4GB RAM
- MicroSD storage
- at least 802.11ac Wifi
- Wireless Display support (Intel WiDi), though I could live with a micro HDMI or mini/micro displayport.
- Windows 10
I'd prefer to keep it under $400 but if the device has decent sounding speakers I'd be willing to go a bit higher. I was looking at a lightly used Surface 3 but at 10 inches its a bit larger than I would ideally like. Any suggestions?

Having worked fine for a year, I've recently started having problems with my Dell printer: it will print, and then suddenly (usually halfway through a page) the computer stops recognising the device.

If I switch the printer off and on again, the computer usually recognises it again, and might print another couple of pages, until suddenly it's not recognised and the whole thing starts again.

I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling the printer software, and I've checked all the connections and tried different USB ports but it made no difference. Am wondering whether the problem could be related to the USB drives rather than the printer?

I'm running Windows XP Professional. Error messages etc attached below:

Answer:Dell AIO 942 - USB device working, then randomly not recognised

Just to clarify, the USB drives are all internal. I'm running SP2 with Windows.

Hi,

I reformatted my Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop yesterday and did a clean install of the Vista Home Basic 64 bit OS. Next, I need to install the drivers, but I'm not sure which ones are already installed and which ones I need to install off the Drivers and Utilities CD or the Dell website.

When I put in the Drivers and Utilities CD, it showed a list of drivers on the CD and tickmarks next to a few drivers which meant that it scanned these devices existed on my laptop. So I installed the three drivers which showed the tickmarks - ATI graphics, WLAN, and Bluetooth.

The rest of the drivers don't have tickmarks on them. So I'm not sure if they match my laptop or not, and whether I should install or not. I mean, my little manual says I have IDT 92HD81 audio, but on the CD and website (under my service tag) it gives the number as IDT 92HD71B. Can I install this even though the number is different?

Second question - do I need to install chipset, network, camera, touchpad, and other drivers too? How do I know what to install and whats already installed?

Please help, I'm really confused.

Answer:Please help me with installing Dell device drivers after a reformat

Windows will install drivers for devices it supports by itself. So in addition you will need the drivers for the devices Windows Vista does not support, or for which the manufacturer has a better driver than the Vista driver.
The easiest way to decide which ones are still required is to look at the device manager, and look for devices that show an error, or that are listed in the "Other devices" category.
By checking the hardware ID or device description, you can determine which devices are involved.
You can also use software, like a driver finder program, which scan your computer hardware and show drivers that are either missing or out-dated. Those programs are not free though. But you can at least run a free scan and see what is missing

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop that I bought just under three months ago (6 days left on the 90 day warranty)

Its ran fine and perfect, never had any problems until this morning. I sometimes leave my computer running and put the top down, to put it into sleep mode. Opened the top this morning and used the computer and all of a sudden out of the blue it shut off on me. The battery was on low power, since the orange light was on, so I thought that was it... wishful thinking.

Turned it on and it goes

Config int [Fail]
Media device [Fail]
No boot device detected

Now I'm no expert at this stuff, but when I think media device, I think the hard drive, so it must be hard drive failure right? I took the hard drive out and booted up the computer, and same error as above, it must be the motherboard. Some sites are telling me its a motherboard dying, some are saying that its "off" and failing to boot up the HD.

I placed the HD into another computer and its giving me an error saying no windows operating system found.

System Setup (F2) shows the fixed HDD is not detected, while BIOS says that the boot device is UEFI which is the standard bootup device.

I really don't want to confirm to myself its a random computer death, I want a second opinion. I'll say this is the first time I've had a computer just die on me, with no warning. I've had motherboard and harddrive failures in the past, there were signs. I've had viruses, there were signs.

Hello,

This is been a problem that I've not had any success solving on my own. I'm hoping that you all may be able to help. It's been about a year now and I'd really like to have my sound back. To be honest, I tried a few things and didn't keep a log of what I did. I've only been sporadic about attacking this. I did however do a total do over in January with the CD's that came with it. Not sure what the term for it is but it was like turning it one for the first time. Still no sound. I was thinking that those CD's should have the appropriate driver for the audio. In some of my online research, I read that Microsoft would only support the sound card for a limited amount of time and then you'd have to download a file from the manufatcuter of the sound card. I was reluctant because I wasn't sure if that was accurate info. So, if there's anyone out there that has heard of this problem or had experience with this I'd be happy to hear your comments.

Thank for listening!

Answer:sound device not detected on my dell laptop

So Code 10 is the device is failing to start. Did this start after you applied any updates or installed any software? Or did you not make any changes that you know of and it just "happened" all of a sudden? First thing i would do is download updated drivers, i took it upon myself to go find the dell driver for you:http://support.dell.com/support/dow... Copy and paste that link, or go to the support.dell.com and pull up your vostro 1510 drivers and the Audio tab will show Realtek sound card which means if you dont get it to work via the dell sponsored drivers, you can goto the realtek website and put in your model and get their generic driver which may be more up to date anyway

Guys,
Last year, I decided to splurge on a new laptop ahhh my Dell is a beauty!
Last week, I turned it on and it said,"SupportAssist is running a scan to detect potential harware problems." I really didn't think anything of it but then I got the following message."No bootable device found."
For days I have researched to find a solution but I only found outdated post. I feel like I've tried wverything and can not solve the issuse maybe I am doing something wrong???
I have been changin my my boot mode multiple times.
When I change it to UEFI I get the following message, "Hardware scan complete with no isssues. No bootable device found! Possible causes could be a corrupt OS image or a boot device is not enabled fo BIOS Set up"
When I change it to Legacy it says, "Hardware scan complete with no issues."Then when I restart it....it goes on a constant loop of, "No bootable device found please press a key..."
I have also run the diagnostics and it says everything in my system is fine. I don't think it's a virus because I use my Kaspersky religiously lol.
I also found recent post on here where people where dealing with the same issue with the Inspiron models.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 13 No bootable device found.

Thank you for your message.  This seems to be an issue with a corrupt OS.Restart the computer & tap F2 to get into bios, press F9 to set bios to defaults & then F10 to save & exit. What is the present OS installed on the notebook? Please open www.support.dell.com  & enter your system service tag, click on drivers downloads, scroll down to the operating system. I'm trying to upgrade an old Dell 4550 with a new-to-me refub HDD (Seagate Barracuda 320gb 7200) to become a media center.

Tried to install Windows, Custom Install, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. (Details = This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.)"

I had an extra HDD on hand, DBAN'ed it, and installed Win 7 no prob with same computer/BIOS setting, so I know its something screwy with this particular drive.

DBAN'ed the new drive, no luck.

using diskpart I tried....

create partition primary

convert dynamic

and got the same error:

"DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. See the System Event Log for more info."

System Event Log is empty.

I booted with the other drive, plugged the faulty drive into the second IDE port, and Win recognized it, but I can't access it in any way.

Feels like I'm going in circles. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:can't install refub IDE hdd on Dell, I/O device error

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup to enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

The listing shows you have 3 SATA devices installed.  Have you checked the Bios to make sure your Boot drive is still selected as primary?  Have you tried the F12 key during boot to open and then select the correct boot device.
We have seen many folks that have lost the Boot Device.  It seems to be happening for different reasons but one reason is due to some updates being installed.  Do you know of any updates installed whether from Dell or Windows?

My computer work start up. Is there anything I xan do to fix this

Answer:No Boot Device Found - Dell Latitude

Hi LGIDON.
What is the exact system model?
Is there any damage / liquid spillage on the system?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.
Restart the system and press f2 key on startup to enter BIOS - check if the HDD is detected in BIOS.
If the HDD is not detected in BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the service manual and reseat the HDD and check.
If the diagnostics encounter errors with the HDD, it needs to be replaced.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
If the HDD is being replaced, I would suggest you to replace it with a SSD, as the rate of failure of SSD is relatively less compared to a standard HDD. However, that is your discretion.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Running Windows 10 v1607 x64 on all (+/- 300) our Dell E5550 laptops. We notice that on all systems there is an Unknown Device present in devicemanager.
Hardware-id: ACPI\VEN_INT&DEV_33A0
Searching this ID it looks like i am missing the Intel(R) Smart Connect driver, however i cannot find this driver on the Dell website for Windows 10. Can anyone help me out with this please? Thank you!!

Answer:Dell E5550, Windows 10, Unknown Device

Greetings SummaSTJO,
Thanks for your question.
There's a Smart Connect driver listed under Windows 8.1 on our page. We sometimes recommend you simply try the previous OS version driver and see if it works for you. If the installer doesn't work the raw files are included in the package in case you want to manually install it through device manager.
Deployment of the driver is beyond my scope and you likely know more about that than me.
Here's the 8.1 driver: www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

Dears,

I have purchased a dell inspiron 3558
from Egypt on October 1st 2016 with a warranty period of 11 months which means that the warranty should end on September 1st  2017 while on the warranty page of that product it says that it has already ended. So please i need clarification about this.

another thing is the device has shown some instability behavior issuing some beep codes which turned out to be a some kind of failure of the motherboard so i handed the device to the warranty agency two weeks ago , now they tell me that they have reset the motherboard !! and every thing is ok but i requested furthermore check.
so please  i need to know if the taken action is enough for my problem or they should replace the whole motherboard ?
I am waiting for a response as soon as possible please .

We can't make much of a recommendation without knowing the beep sequence between pauses - one, pause 1, 2 pause 2, 3 pause 3, etc.

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a Dell E6410.
I did not have the original CDs nor the Drivers.
Lots of problems with drivers.
Dell Support Diagnostics could not solve all and I needed to do a lot of manual driver Updates and installations.
There was one “Unknown Device” seen in Device Manager.
I just could not identify what it was and even “Unknown Device Identifier” could not find it.
I came across a collection of Drivers in a “Pack” called “E6410-win7-ALL-D2H6P.CAB”.
Google or,
Dell TechCenter:
http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/2088.latitude-e6410-windows-7-driver-cab

I downloaded it and unpacked it to its own Folder.
I then went into Device Manager and pointed “Update Driver” to the Folder.
It found a Driver and it turns out that the Device was “ST Micro Accelerometer”.
It can now be found in “System Devices”.
Dell Diagnostics could not find it and did not have the Drivers for it for Download.
I think that all 6410 owners should have this collection of Drivers.
Hope this helps someone.

Hello

Hi!
I have a Latitude E6530 running Windows 7 with updated with all drivers just a few days ago and this problem still persists:
When I connect a USB device to any of the super speed ports, the CPU usage goes up. Looking in the task manager, I can see that the items Interrupts and System are both consuming ~10 CPU. As this is a multi core machine, this essentially means that 100% of 2 threads are completely blocked.
This problem started a few years back when I did a complete driver update (I had a replacement BT card that didn't work and I thought that updating the drivers would help, unfortunately the BT card was broken and the update gave me broken USB drivers instead :(
If I hibernate the computer, the problem goes away after it wakes up again, but as soon as I connect a USB device to any of the USB3 ports, the problem comes back.
Any thoughts on what this is and what I can do to fix it?
Best regards,
Stefan Burstrom

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 that I've had to reformat the drive and reinstall Windows XP. Now I can't get any sound from the system. The diagnsotic test work fine (including sound) but nothing from any media players, itunes, etc.. problem seems to be that I do not have any Audi devices installed. The system only has what was shipped as standard so I assume this is some sort of inbuilt device. I have tried all combinations of the BIOS Legacy/UEFI - Secure boot (OFF) settings, along with the USB boot memsticks having multiple different versions of Win10 and Win7.I have even loaded Linux/GPart on to a USB memstick, booted into Linux Gparted and wipe the hard drive clean. This laptop was given to me because someone, prior to me, had done "something" and it would not boot whatsoever or respond to any keystrokes other than Bios setup(F2) and boot order (F12), and I would get an on screen display of either generic DOS "No boot device" message or a Dell message saying "No boot device"!As it stands with the hard drive wiped, and a bootable USB memstick loaded with either Win10 OR Win7, the installation process proceeds normally right up to the point where you choose the hard drive to install OS, and then an error message is displayed that says "A required drive device driver is missing" that does not appear to be on either version (Win10 or Win7) of the bootable USB memstick.
I opened this machine up and there is NO HDD or SSD in this unit, just a permanently mounted 32gb MMC chip from Sandisk.

The problem lies with WHATEVER OS I try to install with! (UEFI or LEGACY) It needs to access the "MMC 32gb" chip as a hard drive. I shot an email off to Sandisk (mfr of the MMC32gb Chip) and they say it was specially made for D... Read more

Hi All,

I have a d400 laptop but without the cd drive so i cant just boot from disc and reinstall, When I switch the laptop on I get the following message and 2 beeps:

'No bootable device(s) selected'

'strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for set-up utility'

I then retry the boot, but get the same message appearing on screen.

I then try the diagnostics and it fails on a part, Does anyone have any suggestions? ive inserted a usb stick with xp on it but if i try boot from that it says disc error, any ideas or is the laptop doomed?

Regards

Answer:Dell d400 no boot device found press F1 / F2

Can you press F2 and get into the setup? If so, check to see if the hard drive is detected in the bios. Most likely the hard drive is bad. You might be able to use an external USB CD/DVD drive to re-install Windows after the hard drive is replaced

Hi there,
I have a Dell latitude e6500 on which I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x32 (clean install).
After the install, I had no wireless connectivity so I checked device manager and my wireless card is not there. It doesn?t have an exclamation mark next to it, it? missing from the list.
I?ve searched for help on the web but with no success. People are mostly saying to download the necessary drivers. I?ve tried this however I get an error message that says ?this software package cannot be installed on your sistem?
Also tried with uncrewing bottom of laptop and reseated card, still nothing.
I have to mention that wi fi was working fine on the same sistem before new clean install.
Please help

Hello All: I can't connect to the internet via integrated wireless card. I put a fresh copy of XP Pro on a formatted Dell D600. Everything works fine except for the network controller. The drivers seemed to install fine but It Displays an exclamation mark in the device manager. Only LAN shows in the network connections. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, in both regular and safe mode but same problem. I tested the wireless card in another unit and it worked (Broadcom. Bcm94306MPSG) so it's not the card. I updated the drivers using the Dell drivers and I tried the Broadcom drivers from their site as well. I also updated the BIOS and made sure wireless was enabled within the BIOS and Fn+F2. I checked for IRQ conflicts, I also reinstalled the OS again. I can connect to the internet via rj45 Ethernet but nothing seems to correct my integrated wireless card problem.

Answer:Solved: Dell D600(XP Pro) Device cannot start (code 10)

Many machines will only accept specific wireless internal cards, is this the wireless adapter that came with the laptop?

I just bought Dell XPS 13 couple days ago. I had a problem with backup and recovery which showing exclamation mark most time. I tried to download and uninstall it many times even factory reset it. This morning, when I turn it on, the system says that no bootable device found. What happen to my new laptop. Please show me how to fix it. Moreover, let me know how to remove exclamation mark because it is so annoying

Answer:No bootable device found on my brand new Dell XPS 13 (9343)

Hello,
Here is a link to the Dell troubleshooting article for No BOOT issues.  That would be the first thing i would recommend reading as it has steps you can try to get your system to boot up again.
You said you couldn't download the backup software.  Are you, or were you, able to get onto the internet and download other items?  Just want to confirm it's not an issue with network connection.
If none of the steps in the article above help then you may want to contact your local Dell Tech Support and ask them for help.   You can go to Dell Support Pages to find contact information for Dell Support.
Try out the No BOOT document and see if that helps. Please let us know what you try and if you succeed in resolving the issue.  If not, I'll see what else we can find to try.

my netbook (see sig) was working fine until a couple of weeks ago, when it dropped all wireless connections and refused to connect. The computer didn't recognize the card after that, so I installed a fresh copy of W7. It now shows in device manager, but Windows can't install the driver for it. The message I am getting in the dialog box is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

Any idea whats up? Do you guys think the Dell card is toast? It's only a couple of months old.

I just formatted my Dell Inspiron 640m and installed all the appropriate drivers from the Dell website. However, i've still got 3 "Base System Device" errors with exclamation points on them. Done some reading which points to the chipset driver but i've installed that few times with no luck. I've intalled windows XP Pro on it and found all drivers but those for the Base System Device. I've read that it could be the LAN driver but no luck there. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Please can you help me as I am pulling hair out here - cheers in advance

Answer:4 missing device drivers on dell laitude c610

Hi BenRbtz , Have you tried installing the missing drivers in compatibility mode ? or right clicking on the devices in device manager and selecting " Update Driver " ? Many of the older Dell laptops are not supported for Win7 But that does not mean they will not run Win 7 .It's just Dell being over cautious

My Mum's work was throwing away their old business laptops and my Mum decided to take one home instead.  They wiped the computers completely, and I downloaded a windows 7 ISO but still no boot device is being found.  The computer is set to complete default I haven't changed anything.  My windows 7 disc could be the problem I'm well aware . Could anyone confirm or give me hints on to how I can get this laptop up and running?  Maybe a cleaner version of windows 7 etc.

Ok so I have a Dell Dimension 4600c and I had to format and re-install Windows XP home Edition. I did so with the disks provided by Dell. When I had finished this the video card and sound device were malfunctioning. I had to use another disk provided by Dell to reinstall the video driver and now that works, but when I tried to reistall the sound driver I keep getting a error message that says I have no sound device installed. As far as I know the sound card is integrated into the motherboard. I opened the computer to upgrade the ram and saw only 1 open slot but I believe its for a video card upgrade, its a brown plastic slot. There are no other open slots that I can see. Everytime I try to use something with sound I get an error messsage saying that I have no sound device installed. Can someone help me? Or should I take it to a tech? Thanks in advanced for the help!

Answer:Dell Dimension 4600c no sound device installed

Yes, the spec for the 4600c says there is an onboard sound card.

Click Start->Run, enter dxdiag. Check the Sound tab. Does it claim anything is installed? or say there is an error?

Also look in your BIOS settings. Look for any option about onboard sound and make sure it is Enabled.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1450:Device in system modular bay

It sounds like either the battery or the drive (floppy or CD-ROM) is not seated correctly. Try removing each of them and inserting them again.

I recently imaged my Dell E6400 laptop with Win7Pro and the status indicated that it needed troubleshooting. I ran the troubleshooter and when it eventually completed there were 2 problems that could not be fixed:
- Base System Device does not have a driver
- Broadcom USH does not have a driver

I've googled these but nothing comes up that's specific to these devices. Anyone know what they are and where I can find the appropriate drivers?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried rebooting? If you are missing drivers, Windows Update will try to install them.

Upgraded my Dell Inspiron 15R laptop from 10041 to 10049. Went well though it took a long, long, time.

Anyway, I have drivers for all devices except these two and can't actually figure out what they are.

Hi Guys & Girls

Please can anyone help, I have a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 1520, which has a problem with the CD/DVD writer (TS-L632H). Everytime I try to either read or burn a CD/DVD a message comes up saying "please insert a CD/DVD in E Drive".

I've looked in the device manger folder, there is no error message or symbol, but it says that the device is working properly. I've already updated the drivers from the Dell web site & still nothing.

Dell are wanting ?120 for a tech man to come & look at it & a further ?80 for a new drive if required, because it is out of warranty.

I even thought about buying an external rewriter, but would like to try & fix the problem myself first.

If anyone can help in anyway I'd be extremely grateful. I'm not a geek when it comes to fixing comps, but I am good if given instructions.

Many thanks in advance for any help given.

Answer:DELL INSPIRON 1520 CD/DVD RW TS-L632H ATA DEVICE problem

Hi DonnyLass,
Sounds like one or all of the reader lasers bit the dust and your going to need a new drive. But...it also could be your system doesn't recognize the media type you are using. Have you purchased 'new disks' lately? Is this occuring with all your CD/DVD media? If it's happening with all your media old or new it is most likely a hardware failure even though the Device Manager says it is working o.k. and their are no flags up.
Happened to me and I bit the bullet and bought a new drive.
Best of luck,
Jakeman97

My sister had a nasty infection, including vundo and many others, some of which I could remove, many of which I couldn't using Spybot, Ad-aware, Trend Micro, Vundofix, etc. Because she only has pictures on her computer anyways, I've decided to reformat, and moved all her files to my computer.

I've changed the Bios screen to boot from the cd, and popped it in, and I keep getting the message: No Bootable Device -- strike f1 to reboot, f2 for setup utility. I'm stuck and haven't been able to find any similar situation on the internet. The rescue disks are a set of 3 disks that came with my computer from Future Shop, burned with "dv6113" written on them. They recognize on my computer and have worked fine to reformat mine in the past.

Her computer is a Dell Inspiron 8000, OS WinXP. It boots up fine in safe mode.
Please, any help would be great!

Hi
I am wondering if anyone can help me. I am in Uganda where I work as a volunteer and I am helping someone with their computer that was donated to them. It is an old Dell Optiplex GX100.

When we turn it on it says " No boot device available - strike F1 to rety boot, F2 for setup utility."

I can get into BIOS and for all the Primary and Secondary drives it just says "off".

There are not computer support services availalble nearby because we are in the middle of Uganda and there are no installation/boot disks available (although I could possibly download through email if needed)

Anyone able to give help from a distance?

Thanks

Zdy

I just upgraded an older Dell Dimension 4600 desktop from Windows XP to W7 (32 bit). Since completing the upgrade, there's a message in the lower right hand corner stating "No Audio Output Device". When I click on Devices, both the Multimedia Output Controller has a "!" as well as the "PCI Input Device".

When I click on the MMOC, it states there is no driver and it doesn't even give me the option to search for one. I checked Dell's site and it doesn't appear they're offering device drivers for this computer for an OS other than XP.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Dear Everyone,

I am having trouble with my Dell Inspiron 15R (i7|8Gb RAM|2GB GFX|1TB HDD) Laptop.
The problem started some days ago when my actual HDD crashed and was not detected by the BIOS. So I replaced the HDD and addded the new one . Which is blank and no OS is still installed yet. My ODD was broken so unusable. I had booted win8 on my pendrive making my pendrive bootable.
But while trying to boot from it I pluged the pendrive but restarting the Laptop it showing

I have chacked wheather the new HDD is not recognized or not But Its recognized on BIOS.
1. How Can I boot to Windows 8 and Get the Rid of this Problem?

Here are the Pictorial Detail of my Bios settings ...
Plz Tell me The solutions.
Thank you All ...

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R Having Blank HDD with No Boot Device Found Problem

1. What OS was on the Inspiron originally
2. What OS was on when the HDD crashed if it was 8 originally had it been upgraded to 8.1
3. When you say
I had booted win8 on my pendrive making my pendrive bootable. Click to expand...

Do you mean please that you have the OS install files on the flash pen. If so where are they from and what procedure did you use to make the flash drive bootable

4. The system is UEFI and it is in UEFI mode, so the install of the OS from the flash pen must be made from a flash pen set up for UEFI boot
UEFI cannot boot from install media prepared for MBR (traditional BIOS)

5. I cannot read the first image all I can see is your reflection in the camera and some message on the top left but I cannot read it
