Preferred Solution: How To Update BIOS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In preparation for Win 10 key I updated the BIOS on an E520 using the Lenovo Service Bridge.  Os is Win 7 64-bit.  LSB showed old BIOS was backed up. Old bios   LENOVO 8HET30WW(1.12) New bios LENOVO 8HET44WW(1.26) Now bootup and windows start up are painfully slow.  Further there is a black screen in the middle of the wake up process. How can I undo the BIOS update to revert back to Old bios   LENOVO 8HET30WW(1.12)? Or can anything be tweaked to improve the bootup time?

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Hi there again!

Now with a new and weird matter.

We all know that old say... "If it is not break, don't fix it". And if you put it into more informatic terms, "specially if it is a BIOS".

Yes, we all know that the BIOS is something quite dellitate to handle. For some reason we normally feel like if we were handling something like nitro-glycerine, or some radioactive product. And this is because we all know what is being put in risk in that moment: our (or sometimes others) computer, the full system could end as dead as some pieces of metal, plastic, and wires.

Well. I passed through all of that more than ten times in my life, and only once it went wrong. But since that old motherboard was already dead, It was not important. But I allways was EXTREMELY care. I allways cross checked everything before doing anything, allways got a backup and a way to restore that backup... and allways did this in COMPAQ systems, that were prepared that way. Updating a BIOS was just about preparing a disk, turn on the PC with the disk in the diskette drive, and wait. And if you didn't like the results, you simply click "return to previus BIOS" and that was it... very nice. And easy.

Few days ago, a friend brought me a Toshiba Satellite 1410-604 to solve some issues that were driving him crazy. After removing an expired Norton Internet Security, install avast and scan, I found more than one hundred files infected with a wide variety of virus, malware, t... Read more

Answer:Satellite 1410-604 - BIOS update > Incorrect BIOS update in the web?

Hi Fenix,

wow... it tooked very long time to read your post....

Maybe I can help you.

The Bios in the Web is the right one. So you have downloaded the correct version of the Bios.

The Askiris you have used is from Toshiba America which has most times not the exact models as Toshiba Europe.
That should be the reason, why the readme does not contain the European modelname.

I would try to make a fresh Bios update using the traditional Bios update.

Copy the files to the diskette, put it into the FDD, press and hold the Tab key while power on the notebook.
After the notebook has shut down, press and hold the key on the left side of the space-bar while power on the notebook again and wait until it powers off again.

If your notebook does not power on anymore, maybe the RAM is defect?

So, if the use of the traditional Bios and/or changing the memory does not help and your notebook is still dead you should go to an ASP, but this will cost money.

I have my fourth Toshiba notebook now and I had never problems with the Bios updates.

The 1410 is very old I think, so before going to an ASP, I would buy a new one ;)

best regards,

Maurice

I just restored my x61 to original settings due to a problem with blue screens, and decided to update the BIOS right afterwards.  I followed the directions precisely and it installed all 21 of the individual components for this model.  I then shut down the computer and turned it back on this morning to continue loading software.  The system started with the fan running at high speed and stopped at the ThinkPad Screen.  However, nothing happened after pressing the ThinkVantage button and F1 or any other button for that matter.  I left it for a couple hours, but finally determined that I could not turn it off or do anything with the machine.  It just hung there.  I did finally remove the battery and replace it, and now there is no power registering when the machine is plugged in and it won't start. Is there something I can do to recover the system?  I suspect the answer is a board replacement.  The BIOS update failed in conjunction with something on my computer.  I am just 2 years into the warranty period in the US, so if I need to replace the board, what are the best options? Thanks for your help and comments....this is a very frustrating turn of events, since it is my work machine.

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". But every version I tried leads to a "secure flash authentication failed"-error after the reboot of the laptop to actually flash the BIOS. The following link says its the Rollback Prevention Enabled, but I checked in BIOS and it's clearly disabled.https://support.lenovo.com/sg/de/solutions/ht117858 Now I have no idea how to proceed. Has anyone seen that the BIOS has accepted special characters like "!"?Are there other T450s which are not able to rollback to older BIOS versions with the above mentioned error? Technical Infos:- Model: ThinkPad T450s 20BW-S03E00 (the one with Intel graphics only and a core i5-5200)- BIOS: 1.29(JBET65WW) Thanks in advance!  Best regards,Linus123

Hello All,
3 days ago I applied the latest bios update to my 1-year old XPS15, running latest and fully patched 64 bit Windows 10 public release.
Since then
A) plugin a rather simple USB-3 hub into the system prevents the laptop from Booting into BIOS, or if manages to do that
B) plugin said USB-3 hub after full windows boot, freezes both USB ports devices.  The unfreeze can be overcame by unplugging the hub and then other device and then re-pluging both
C) after step B, windows explorer becomes very unstable and does not even show all the folder contents to some programs "open file" function.
D) the system does not recover anymore from plain S3 sleep, triggering a windows hard reboot.
I'm afraid the bios option to roll-back the bios version was not active, so I'm stuck.
Finally, the latest Intel diver published at the same time does not install cleanly after the bios update (although I managed to get it to show in the "program files" section.
I always apply the latest updates for drivers and bios promptly as main security policy and so far the system has behaved very well (Maybe with the exception of Hibernation from sleep time out, which always has been a bit faulty)

Well, I have used the BIOS updater listed on the drivers/bios updates section of Toshiba website, on Windows vista x64 and offcourse I have used the x64 executable.
Strangely, when I reboot it, it requests a bios password that I have never inserted. So I suppose the update inserted a password automatically. Now I can't boot from any device so I cant use the laptop.

What do you have to say about this?

Have you founded some answers? Nobody offered here real explanation what can be wrong there. Have you maybe contacted authorized service partner in your country. They have contact with Toshiba and I am pretty sure they can help you about that.

If you will find out something regarding this password issue please let us know.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/satellite/4030-4060-100/bios_820.zip

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.
Thanks.

Bastien.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

Hello all -      I've done a lot of reasearch on this and have not found the solution. It all started when I tried to access BIOS, and I cannot. I've tried the lenovo button, F2, F1, delete, etc and none take me to BIOS, they all just boot windows 8.1. I tried pulling the battery, holding down the power button and booting back up, still no dice. I haven't tried Fn+F2 yet, I just read that one this morning.      I found the BIOS update on the website, attempted to follow the instructions and the 'public' file I click on opens the BIOS flashing utility and starts reading the BIOS and then stops with the error 'winflash64.exe has stopped working' and says 'exits with error 255'. Nothing seems to work. I found one post that suggests that I could need to disable DEP to make it run? I haven't tried that yet because it wasn't for this same laptop. What is the difference between the 'public' and the 'private' files? I have also read that the 'private' file will work, but I don't want to do it out of order. Do I need to do both?? My computer works and I want to keep it that way.       There's nothing really wrong with my computer other than not being able to get into BIOS (and wifi drops and itelligent pad stops working) so I want to solve that incase I experience a hard drive failure or want to replace the drive. How do I go about making this work?      Also - any ideas on wifi connectivity or the in... My XPS 15 9550 laptop received a Dell update notification to install BIOS 1.5 about 3 days ago.  I did the update and it initially appeared to succeed.  Today I rebooted the laptop for the first time since updating, and it failed to restart.  It does not POST or show the BIOS screen.  The power light illuminates when pressed, and goes out when pressed again (after a short delay). The keyboard illumination comes on while the power button is lit. Other than that, there is no sign of life. If I power on with the 'D' key pressed, the screen does show the color-flashing LCD test.
The symptoms are exactly as described in this thread from May: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/20013272, exactly.  I did all the same diagnostic steps listed there, and got absolutely identical results at each step. The BIOS recovery proposed there also failed identically for me.
The final message in that thread seemed to state that it was a motherboard failure.  It's just too much of a stretch that my motherboard would fail in the exact same manner, immediately following a BIOS update (unless you classify a corrupt BIOS as a motherboard failure?).
What other steps can I take to clear and reload my BIOS, if the USB stick with BIOS_IMG.rcv and Ctrl-Esc-PowerPlug recovery method never succeeds?

Hi

Like a complete idiot I upgraded my bios (to 1.80) for Satellite A30 (PSA30E). I've noticed two problems.

a) during boot I no longer get any welcome screen, and cannot access the bios or boot from other devices - so if I want to boot from CD now I can't - e.g. impossible to reinstall OS in the future

b) the battery suddenly wasn't fully charged and hangs persistently on 99% (apparently)

c) who knows what else could be going wrong

I'd dearly love to undo what I've done, but it doesn't seem possible. How on earth do I fix this, since clearly the bios update is flawed. Can I find an earlier bios update file (and how to use it)? Can I fix this one?

Anyone any thoughts?

David

Answer:Bios update Satellite A30 - can't access bios and no full charge light

Hi

Firstly may to ask why you have updated the BIOS. If everything works the BIOS update is not necessary.

Ok, how did you try to access the BIOS? Usually the F2 button should be pressed immediately after notebook starting. You can try to press several times.

But you can boot from ODD on different ways. You can press C button and the notebook will activate the booting from the drive or you will press F12 and you will choose the ODD as booting source.

I don?t know why the battery power freezes at 99% but you could try to remove the battery and wait several times. Then connect it again and check the battery status.

Do you see the Toshiba logo?

Was there a power failure when you updated the BIOS?

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter, and leaving it for a couple of hours. You could also try reseating the RAM.

If that doesn't help, you may need to send it to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

Toshiba 5205 - Serviceman / Call Bios - Need some help.

I flashed my bio's and the laptop locked up in windows and didn't shut off after the flash.

Now when I turn the laptop on, I get no picture and the front of the laptop has a remote lcd display that says: Serviceman / Call BIOS.

I have already remove the laptop's battery and let it sit a full day to killthe bios, but I get the same error and still no picture.

How can I fix this? The bio's should be dead by now. Am just using the ac-power pack for power. I tryed plugging the battery pack back in and I have also put the bio's battery back in. and I get the samething error message on the remote lcd.

There must be a way to get around this, if anyone knows please let me know.

Answer:Satellite 5205 - After Bios update - Serviceman / Call Bios message

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately removing the battery will not reset your BIOS. The BIOS is maintained by a separate battery on your motherboard (the CMOS or RTC battery) and you will need to dismantle your notebook to access this battery. Even removing the CMOS battery will not reset your BIOS since it will be held in a non-volatile area of the CMOS chip.

You will need to take your notebook to a Toshiba Authorised Service Agent to have the chip reflashed with a new BIOS.

Traditional BIOS update cannot be downloaded.
Only Win-based BIOS is available on Toshiba European driver page.

In your case you will need to get in contact with an local ASP!
The technician could help you and could reflash the BIOS using an BIOS crisis disk.

I am having trouble figuring out what to rename the BIOS file. I have read so many posts that I can't get clear on it.

I'm going from something like post #3 in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/304332-cq45-insyde-bios-recovery-using-usb-thumbdrive.html
At least we know there should be some form of recovery possible using the <windows key> and <b key>.

Your BIOS update has two files in it and shortening them to four letters is simple but using a tool provided by one of those BIOS forums it gives five possible names for each of the two BIOS files included in the softpaq. The five names are the same for each of the two files which is what has me confused. HP doesn't give the manufacturer's name for your motherboard which makes it more difficult. I'm going to start fresh tomorrow hoping my subconscious works on it.Click to expand...

Sach Hello, I write from Argentina, I have a laptop hp dv6-3052 to which the BIOS does not work. Lei reply and follow all the steps, but when squeezed <windows> + <B> the notebook does not read the flash drive. Some time ago a laptop acer fix in which I had to tighten <Fn> + Esc to read the flash drive, but this notebook does not work. You know that combination should I use?

Answer:Re: BIOS FAIL dv6-3052:black screen after Bios update

Hi

Does your Laptop work ok at present? if it does then do not update the BIOS as its likely not needed, BIOS updates are only needed to fix specific issues, like update in Windows say Windows 8 if the said laptop was a XP/Vista based one, to hardware.

Hi,

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Tecra 9100 - BIOS block 1 damaged and how to update BIOS?

Hello

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

I got Satellite L300 notebook and I want to update it's BIOS (current v1.50), so I've downloaded bios update v1.60-WIN and when I run extracted PS10160M.exe file - I get a message that "That BIOS is not for your notebook PC".

What I'm I doing wrong?

ps: that BIOS update was automatically suggested after registration on Toshiba website via serial number.

UPD: seems like autosuggestion fail: Manual search shows that 1.60-win bios update not suitable for Satellite L300 PSLBCE model. :-(

BIOS updates to my ThinkPad T460p seem to have been fine, up until going from 2.19 to 2.20.  Upon trying to upgrade to 2.20, I get the following message:  I cannot boot from USB key, I get the same issue.  This includes attempting with an older BIOS like 2.18; the same error message occurs even when not in Windows. Is there a way to force-flash the BIOS to get it back on track or is there some option I can try?  I only have a few remaining days left on my warranty, so I don't have much time left to open a support case if there's nothing else I can do other than replace the mainboard.

Answer:T460p BIOS update fails; "The BIOS does not match this system"

Call support.  Whatever happens, you should get the issue documented while the system is under warranty.  In U.S., the number is 1-800-426-7378

Hi

I'm having trouble flashing my bios.
I have a Satellite Pro L40-15A.

The Toshiba winflash tool that comes with the bios file tells me that the 'Old BIOS can't recognise EEPROM'

I was recommended to use AFUDOS on another forum but that tells me the bios has an invalid boot block.

AMI flas for dos tells me the flash rom is write-protected??? There is no option in bios to disable it and I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to put a hardware Bios protect jumper on a laptop.

Please help

Thx

Dear Bruce

Can you please tell me what you want to do and please explain to us your steps to update BIOS on your Satellite Pro notebook?

I have done BIOS update over 20 times last month and I am really wondering what you want to say with terms like EEPROM or AFUDOS. Which BIOS update version you want to use? I presume 5.10. am I right?

Dear all, Since the beginning I got troubles with charging - ( 94 % plugged in, not charging). The easiest solution was just remove the battery, but not for HP Omen. I removed battery and destroyed the rubber on the bottom. I had to open the laptop, because one morning I got the massegae that my laptop is overheated and fan does not work properly. Both fans works only during the lounch, when windows works only one fan was in operations, second one never starts again. Looking for the solution in the internet I have found that this can be because of BIOS is not updated.  I pushed F2, checked the the system, everything is fine and then I installed only one version which I have found there. No massages regarding overheating any more, both Fans are working full power and very very loud. Temperature of processors is 30C. In my room 25C.  I followed all instructions, but got massege BIOS update is blocked.I downloaded the most previous version, again BIOS update is blocked.Current version of bios is BIOS version F00 04Sep14.  Can it be solved somehow?

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost Ł255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

What was your BIOS version before the flashing? (BIOS version compatibility)

If it was a 1.x version you can only flash with another 1.x version, if it was a 2.x version you can only flash with another 2.x version.
If your system shipped with Windows 7 and you upgraded to Windows 8 you cannot use the ones marked "Not for Ugrades"

If you are unable to reflash you will need to contact the Acer Technical Support in your area for options.

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Answer:Problems with Nvidia gpu post BIOS system BIOS update.

Hi,

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Cheers

Dave

But when I reboot an error occur -> #0167: No processor BIOS update foundFollow by: Press F1 to setup, F2 to resume* Error Boot Sequence will be taken if no selection is made. I have try to see what was wrong in the bios section, the only thing that I found is that there is no processor number  and the date is missing, these two fields are in blue and cannot change it or I didn't find the way to do it????  Also I am not anymore able to boot on CD,  even if I force the setting in the bios.It seems that the Bios do not keep the change I do even after an exit with F10. It always come back with is default setting. Can someone you tell me what is wrong an how I can fix that problem. Thanks NOTE:Before the update the BIOS was at level 2RKT28AUS

Answer:BIOS problem - 0167: No processor BIOS update found

This is a very odd outcome to a BIOs update. Did you upgrade the processor at anytime? (Your machine should contain a Core 2 Duo Processor E6550)Did you update the BIOs through the operating system? If so I would download the "Flash BIOS update (CD ISO image version) " (The 3rd file down in the list of available BIOs updates for your machine) and re-flash your BIOs from the CD. Flashing the BIOs from within Windows has a history of erratic behavior.

I have a HP pavilion dv6-2020EV Note book.
I downloaded an update for Bios "sp50586.exe" from Hp site an extract it. after that a program (Insyde Flash V 3.80.00) Loaded and I pushed start button.
after some time I made mistake an pushed my notebook Power Button. The note book became shutdown and now I see only Black screen.

I performed some actions with HP online guide like pushing Power button for above 1 minute, removing Coin battery, Connecting notebook to another monitor and even removing Hard Disk. I get no reply from machine.

Now the power LED is on, and I can hear sound of DVD Rom when I put a Disc in it. But I can see only Black screen.
also I tried to load Recovery disc of the note book but it could not be loaded.

Would you please Help me. I have no solution. I lost my notebook.

Answer:BIOS FAIL dv6-2020ev:black screen after Bios update

How did HP end the service call-did they offer any further solutions?

Can you direct me to the support page for your model? I can only find it at HP India using Google cache--the actual website seems to be offline. [I want to double check that they were recommending the sp50586 for that model.]

Also, is there a longer model number on the tag on the bottom of the laptop? It might be useful for finding others who have experienced the problem. [There appears to be a BIOS recovery flash option that might work but it is important to have the right version of the BIOS to attempt it.] Since that update is so new there are not many people experiencing the same problems. Your laptop has an Intel processor?

I need a way to update a bios that has a bios password set FROM windows remotely. Scenario:             I'm at my desk, a remote user is having a known issue related to a BIOS revision that is older. I need to update it but the user is not at my location. We cannot supply the user our BIOS password by policy. Prior to these new models, we could put the BIOS password into a box during the update; however, NOW we are forced to supply it on bootup. This is impossible without traveling to the users location. We had a case open with HP and they said "you need to script it" I need to know what that entails. We used to be able to use switches and whatnot with the bios update utility.....I don't see that ability now. Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:BIOS 33 Update -- Unable to recover BIOS from contents

This is related with Windows ownership policies.Your steps:1) Download BIOS again using some download manager to be sure that file is not corrupted itself.2) Unpack BIOS to some folder, rightclick on this folder and find "change owner of containers"- there you just change owner to your account.3) Copy BIOS file back to disk C: or D: If this doesn't help4) Copy unpacked BIOS to flash, change BIOS boot priority so that flash is used to boot firstly and then follow flashing procedure as described in Instruction.

Hi, i just bought an Satellite Pro L40 laptop and im trying to figure out why the bios has no memory settings.
If i look at the ram using a system info tool (cpuz or aida320) it shows that it is not running at the advertised speed of 667mhz but at 533mhz.

As you can see from this screenshot the actual speed the memory is running at is lower than the maximum the sticks are rated at.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4580/cpuz1pj5.jpg

Its running at 266mhz (533mhz ddr) when it should be running at 333mhz (667mhz ddr).

I've also noticed that with this laptop the fan never seems to come on, is there a way to turn the fan up?
Everytime i have the laptop on for longer than 30 minutes it becomes very very hot.

Answer:Satellite Pro L40: Bios update needed - no settings for RAM in 1.90 Bios

Hi

> if i look at the ram using a system info tool (cpuz or aida320) it shows that it is not running at the advertised speed of 667mhz but at 533mhz.

What is your FSB?
If the notebook was equipped with the PC2-5300 memory modules then they could run at 667 MHz but only if the FSB would supports 667 MHz! I think the FSB supports only 533Mhz.
So I can say it?s nothing wrong!

> i just bought an Satellite Pro L40 laptop and im trying to figure out why the bios has no memory settings.
Why do you think that an BIOS update would enable the memory settings in the BIOS?
Please don?t mix the desktops with notebooks! The notebooks cannot be overclocked!
The notebooks BIOS is not the same like a desktop PC BIOS!!!

> I've also noticed that with this laptop the fan never seems to come on, is there a way to turn the fan up? Everytime i have the laptop on for longer than 30 minutes it becomes very very hot.
Did you notice any automatically shut downs or any other strange notebook behaviors like OS freezing for example?
If not then the notebook runs properly and doesn?t overheat.
The notebooks support an overheating protection which would shut down the notebook automatically to prevent the hardware from damage?

So lean back dude and enjoy your nice toy ;)

PS: are you Carlos Santana fan? ;) I ask it due to your nickname ;)

I attempted to update the BIOS on my Inspiron 5565 (AMD-A10 9600P) from .1.0.5 to v1.0.8 using the 'BIOS flash update' with the BIOS update file downloaded (and md5 hash verified on a usb key) from the drivers download page:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C52F8
I followed the instructions on this support page:
http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN171755/updating-the-dell-bios-in-linux-and-ubuntu-environments?lang=EN#Flashing%20a%20Dell%20BIOS%20in%20a%20Linux%20Only%20Environment
to copy the BIOS update file to the USB but when I find and select the file in the 'BIOS flash update' function it reads the USB key (usb key read/write light flashing) but prompts with 'Invalid file!'. I have not renamed the file at all and I also tried to update to the other downloadable BIOS update file, v1.0.6 but get the same error message 'Invalid File!'
Reason for trying to update via the BIOS update feature is that I have a blank hard drive and I'm having trouble loading Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (but seem to have no issue with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) so trying to update the BIOS as first troubleshooting elimination step.
Any tips or suggestions most appreciated.

Made the huge mistake of updating BIOS. Had small MOBO usb prob, and for some reason thought a BIOS update would do something. Wasn't too worried because Gigabyte touts Dual BIOS pretty strong.

Anyway, tried updating BIOS, then system would not boot, so the Backup BIOS didn't kick in. btw, the MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro.

So I copied the backup bios to a floppy and used the floppy to fix the main bios. OK, now computer would boot, but would freeze up after the desktop icons appear. Actually would sometimes work for a few minutes, but always froze up.

Boots OK to safe mode, even to the point of getting online, so I downloaded the old bios from Gigabyte, put them on floppy and used that to update the main bios. Same result.

Also did a system restore from XP Pro Safe Mode (because XP wrongly states that this can be undone; didn't find out that System Restore done from safe mode cannot be undone until I tried to undo!).

My tech support (ABS Computer; they rule) thinks that the BIOS is now fine, that some windows files are corrupt and a re-install will fix problem and mobo is probably fine as well. I'll buy that.

anyone have any miracle suggestions before i re-install? Is a repair install worth a shot? Really not looking forward to re-installing all my software and putting all my data back where it belongs to get my email hist., bookmarks, etc. back.

thanks - I will now write the following 500 times: LEAVE THE BIOS ALONE! even with Dual BIOS

Hi,after some months of using Windows 7 and some BIOS updates I updated to Windows 8. And today I updated the new BIOS. Unfortunately I was using BitLocker which never made some problems - until today. Now it is asking for the key - which I lost... So it's denyingWell my bad. But I want to try, to install the old BIOS. Is this possible to downgrade and where can I get the old version?

Answer:BitLocker Problem after W520 BIOS Update - looking for old BIOS?

I now got Version 1.40, so I hope the ISO of 1.39 (or 1.36?) could help me. In Drivers I find "8buj19uc.iso" only, which is 1.40.Is it even possible to downgrad BIOS version?

I have a Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD (512 GB) connected next to the original 512 GB SSD (Samsung MZVPV512HDGL-000H1). When I have the 950 PRO in the Studio I cannot enter BIOS settings. The Studio just stops (hangs) if I try. When I have the drive in the Studio and upgrade BIOS the Studio stops (hangs) during reboot. I have to open the Studio and remove the SSD to be able to perform these two tasks. Then I can insert it again. Otherwise the SSD is working nicely in Windows... This is the strangest thing that I have encountered for years! Anyone else have encountered this? Any workaround?

Answer:Cannot update BIOS for Satellite M40-135 - The bios is not ACPI compliant

Hi

First of all Toshiba Support team is not here in the forum? its user to user forum.
Secondly the win-based BIOS can be updated only running Windows OS? the best would be the usage of the Toshiba preinstalled Windows version in order to run BIOS update.

By the way; I found BIOS versions on Toshiba US page? there you can download the traditional BIOS which can be updated using diskette.
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
Note; US Toshiba notebooks have different model numbers.

Does the BIOS update flash the BIOS or does this require a different file. I updated a Satellite A60 BIOS to 1.9 but am not sure if this flashed the BIOS as well.

If not where could I get a file to flash the BIOS for a satellite A60-106?

Answer:Satellite A60-106: Question about BIOS update and BIOS Flash

Hi

Sorry but you question is a little bit confused.
The BIOS update flashes the ROM module. I don?t know what version was installed before the BIOS update but if after the upgrade a new BIOS version appears then the procedure was successful.

The right BIOS and how to update the BIOS information you can find on the Toshiba page.

I have a Lenovo Z40-70 (owned it for 1.5 years)  and my fans were having some problems the other day. After googling around a little, a lot of people suggested making sure my bios was up to date, so I downloaded and ran this update: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds100528 The update restarted my laptop. After the restart, I got the "EFI network 0 for IPv4 boot fail" for IPv4 and IPv6. This is because my HDD as Windows 7 installed, not Windows 8 (which is the OS that the laptop shipped with.) I knew all I had to do was go into the BIOS and change the boot priority from UEFI to Legacy, so I rebooted and used the NOVO key to get into the BIOS.  Then the BIOS asked me for a "System Password." I have never set a password for my BIOS and I have accessed my BIOS before the update without a password just fine. I did not set this password, I did not create this password. And just to be sure, I have attempted every single password I've ever made in my entire life on this with no dice. This problem only appeared after the BIOS update that I linked above. In a mad attempt to fix the problem, I took apart the laptop hoping to find a CMOS jumper or something like that. Well, the Z40-70 doesn't have a CMOS jumper, and its battery is soldered on to the board. I bet its stored in EEPROM anyway, so that all would be useless to begin with.  All I need to do is get into the BIOS to change the boot order to boot my "legacy" hard drive. Right... Read more

I got a pop-up window stating that I needed to install a critical update (unfortunately I didn't get a screenshot of this, just clicked okay). A subsequent window cryptically stated, "ThinkPad BIOS Flash Update Utility: Version 29.17, please choose Update ThinkPadBIOS or Update model #" without explaining why I'd need to do so, although the window looked otherwise legit. I ignored the window and it hasn't come up again. Also, I couldn't find anything on this site or elsewhere about a critical BIOS update needed for my laptop. Should I be concerned about updating my BIOS?I checked the bios version from my command prompt, and it is 1.17.

Answer:E460 - suggested BIOS update & BIOS upgrade pop up.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The posting of what Lenovo or Thinkpad model you have will be most helpful to those responding.

Personally, if your machine is running good and you don't need a newer BIOS version to support a hardware change then I wouldn't worry about updating.  Even under the most perfect conditions a BIOS update can fail.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it is my opinion.

Hello All! After a BIOS update (offerd by Lenovo Update) - and the automatic restart - the laptop doesn't boot. The led lights, the fan spins for a couple of seconds, but only black screen, no logo, no BIOS, no Windows.  Removing the CMOS-battery (for longer time) or pressing fn/win+B/R with the power button doesn't help. I'm trying to make a flash drive to flash the BIOS following these instructions. However I'm unable to retrieve the BIOS.wph or other proper file to use for the flash drive. I was using these originalfiles (both 2.08 and 2.5x), but neither with 7zip nor by installing the .exe (without installing the update itself) did produce the file I need. Could somene please help, where I could find the proper file (.wph or other) to make a BIOS flash with Phoenix recovery tools for a Thinkpad Edge 430, or whether you have an idea what other soultion (different software instead of Wincrisis for ex.) could I use to get my BIOS back into life again? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Failed BIOS-update on E430 - need wph for BIOS recovery

Unfortunately Lenovo laptops do not provide BIOS recovery functionality, either get the laptop in for warranty, or find a local computer repair shop that will reprogram your SOIC8 BIOS chip, they usually charge $40

Hi,Today i updated bios on my Y510P, everythink was ok but after update I can't go into bios setup. I haven't password before and only I'm using this laptop. There is possible a standard password? I update from 2.xx v to 3.08 v.Regards.

Answer:Lenovo y510p bios password after bios update

Have you, possibly, flashed a BIOS downloaded somewhere else other than Lenovo website? e.g. downloaded, from a "BIOS unlock" forum, another user's unlocked BIOS, and flashed it on your own machine. (bad, bad move) If that's the exact case, you're out of luck. Either the original BIOS user has to supply you with his password (unlikely, as if they do so, they'll have an exact clone -- windows key, mac addresses etc -- of his machine over the world), or you'll have to buy some specific hardware to write directly to your BIOS chip. ---------------------  If that's NOT the case, perhaps there was an password stored previously, and it re-activated after you updated the BIOS? Have you bought this laptop from someone else or is it yours since new? Try getting the password from the previous owner, or sit for a while and try remembering the password you've set previously.  I've updated my Y50 to v3.08 and it didn't ask for a password. Also, if the Y510P BIOS is similar to the Y50, don't bother trying to remove the CMOS battery (which, again, if it's anything like the Y500, it's soldered on the board!), as the password is not deleted if you disconnect it.

Hi all, I tried updating the BIOS on an old computer with an asus m2n mx se plus mob and it failed so when I came to restarting the computer it wouldn't load and comes up with a bad bios checksum. checking floppy...not found....checking cd ...not found. I have downloaded the latest bios file from asus and tried all sorts. there are actually no instructions on their site on how to reload the bios onto the mob. (I am not sure if this is even possible, I am not great with the aspect of computing) Anyway so far I have tried changing the file name to M2PLUSSE.ROM which is what the mob asks for when loading up with a cd in, says reading M2PLUSSE.ROM.... can't find M2PLUSSE.ROM I have put this on a CD on its own, with the 3 items in the zip file that are downloaded...one is a flash exe file and the other a text file....have created an ISO and burned this to CD and still no luck. ONE point to note is that I am doing all the work on a macbook pro as this is all I have. I have used the disk utility on mac to burn the CDs. I have bought parts to build a new PC as this is quite outdated but I would really like to get it up and running so I can save some of the stuff on the hard drive before I have to wipe it for a clean install of windows.
Thanks for any help :)

Hey folks,I got my T61 last week and been very happy so far. I installed Windows yesterday and did all the updates and driver installation with the automated Matrix program (not sure what it's called). One of the updates was a BIOS update.I tried to access my BIOS afterwards and it asked me for a password (it has never done that before the update). I never set one, so I just tried to hit enter and to double check also my usual computer password (I set that for Windows but not for BIOS, I just wanted to double check). Now I can't access my computer nor my BIOS anymore.Any idea what I can do? I am sure I never entered a password and so I am pretty frustrated. Thank you. Robert

Answer:Locked out of computer and BIOS after BIOS update

You need to provide more information before one could suggest anything concrete. However, here are some generic suggestions. Is the machine totally dead?Take it to service. It starts up and then acts up asking for password. If you have set up password recovery in ThinkVantage Security Solution, you could recover the password. You may have to use ThinkVantage Blue button at the start up.Have you made Windows Password Recovery disk? This would help you recover windows passwordAs last resort try to set to factory setting and re-install to original setup. But before that go to service, particularly if the machine is under warranty.

Answer:Lenovo B50-30 bios corrupted after bios update

hi nikola1970,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Do a hard shutdown by holding the power button for 10secs.
2. Press the OneKey Recovery button and see if you get the Novo Button Menu where you can access the BIOS or even perform a factory restore via System Recovery.
   - Link to picture

3. If accessing the BIOS works but you're not able to restore Windows, you can try the following:

Option A:
  a. Contact lenovo and request for a recovery disc and/or to reflash the BIOS (you may need to send the unit in this case).
    - Support phone list

Option B:
  b. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
  c. When finished, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD or USB flashdrive and use it to install Windows (the installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware that will let you activate Windows).
  d. If successful, obtain the drivers from the lenovo drivers page .

Hi guys

i went to the local computer shop with my satellite A40 because i only have half of the bios !!!
I sent an email to the german toshiba technical support and they said try a bios update (which baring in mind i still dont know how to do)then we sent my laptop to a local computer shop and told them the problem they told me not to update bios on a cempron processor.

Why not? What are the risks in need to know.

please help me because i want to in the future possibly upgrade to vista??

Answer:Satellite A40: How to update the BIOS because I only have half of the Bios

Hello Daniel,

I?m a little bit confused about your message.
What do you mean with ?only have half of the bios??
What?s wrong with the BIOS?

The Toshiba support said -> try a BIOS update.
On the Toshiba page you can download the BIOS for the Satellite A40.

It seems you didn?t check the download page detailed because on this page you would find this instruction:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B IOS&FID=TRO0000000b07

The BIOS update was detailed described in this document and you should follow these guide lines to update the BIOS.

Hi, I saw the new BIOS version 1.25 dated ?14?.?09?.?2016 appearing on Lenovos support site. I did not check the version I was having on my system before downloading the "new BIOS", so I started the installer and the tool told me I already have this BIOS version. msinfo32.exe tells me I am having BIOS 1.25 dated 13.07.2016. So apparently the BIOS was released already some time ago and I already flashed it to 1.25. So whats the point of re-releasing the 1.25? If there are any changes of todays version compared to the 1.25 released some time ago, is it worth flashing? If yes, how can I do this if the tool tells me I am already having the latest version and it does not let me override my BIOS? Thanks and best regards,Martin

Check the I/O Access settings in the BIOS. look to see if "Card Reader" is disabled. That would prevent it from appearing in the OS.

Answer:Computer screen not turning on after BIOS update failed using System Update

Hello, if your dvd is spinning up, you could try to download your bios as an iso file, burn it to disc, and try to boot and flash from this cd.The last chance is to take out the battery, click power ten times, insert battery again and plug ac in. If nothing goes, call Lenovo support line, youŽll need a new system board.

Hello,

a friend gave me his HP DV6500 Notebook to fix it. He said it made an update and then for hours nothing happened. He shut it and started again.

I could see that it tried to recover 2 times. The second time it was successful but it somehow resetted or returned the Vista to a fresh install!!! His data was locked in a previous User account, I backed it up on a usb-stick with a linux live cd.

I can't make a reinstall because now a bluescreen always appears even when I boot from Vista DVD.

ntoskrnl.exe corrupt when try to boot vista in the normal way.
How can I fix that without being able to use the repair option of the DVD?
Sorry, the title of the thread is wrong. I figured out already that the BIOS version is for an Intel. So everything is ok with the BIOS actually.

Ok, I could fix it after following instructions from this page:

http://www.delmartian.com/nullpoint...0C1F5-0xC1F5-C1F5-BSOD-CLFS.SYS-KB946084.html

The Txf-log had to be removed and afterwards I was able to use the repair function of the Vista DVD again.

I've tried many times to install the latest critical BIOS update, using Lenovo System Update, and every time it attempts to, it fails after telling me in a popup that I need to turn the system off and make sure I have a fully charged battery. I rarely rely on battery power and use AC primarily, and I used Power Manager twice to do a full reset, just in case. I can't believe I would need to buy a new battery in order to install it, because the battery works just fine. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), and exhausted every other update or option, unless there's something else I'm not aware of. Is it just the software toying with me?

Answer:[T530] Battery error message won't allow BIOS update in System Update

Hello and welcomeDo not perform the BIOS update from within the TVSU. It's much safer to use CD/DVD and ISO image from the T530 support page.

I've just acquired a second hand T43 (2668WZT) that is working fine with one exception. I cannot get it to recognise a game DVD that apparently has safedisc DRM encryption on it to prevent copying. The DVD works with no problem on my desktop system but I thought it would be useful to be able to run it on the Thinkpad as well when travelling. Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem might be? I'm on BIOS level 1.24 and the BIOS level is now up to 1.29 which raises the other slight mystery. I've installed the latest version of system update but that is not flagging any BIOS update as available so I'm a bit reluctant to download and install in case there is some pre-req missing. All advice on either issue gratefully received!
