Preferred Solution: how to remove windows xp?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently uninstalled Windows SP3 RC1 from my computer and reverted back to Windows SP2 through the use of Projekt (Project) Dakota. http://www.theatticnetwork.net/

Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday.

Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)

Hi, I have a kiosk PC that is looking pretty good however I have two outstanding issues.

The users can still right click on applications on the taskbar and receive a context menu even though I've disabled the context menu in the group policy editor.
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar - Enabled

And I can't figure out how to remove the "show desktop" icon in the systems notification tray.

Thanks in advance for any help
Megan Armstrong.

Answer:Windows 7 Restricted User - Remove Right click on taskbar icons; Remove show desktop icon

Hello Megan,

Hope you're doing fine.

Disabling context menu from application on the taskbar
Please note the task bar context menu for any application for windows 7 is sub-divided into two sections :

   a. Jumplist(to access recently opened files)
   b. Creating a new instance of the application, Pin/Unpin, Close window

We can only disable the Jump List of the Taskbar context menu but not the "new instance creation, Pin/Unpin, close window"

Please follow the steps below to disable jump list:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and then select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab and uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar".
3. Click OK.

Disabling Show Desktop from the system tray
Regarding the requirement of disabling the "Show Desktop" button alltogether from the System tray, this is by design.

There are no ways to remove it. All we can do is to disable aero peek at Taskbar properties by right clicking and uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".
There's a third party software which addresses this sopecific purpose but I'm not pretty sure if this works perfectly for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Please refer to the link below.

When I go into control panel and click on 'Add or Remove Programs' the only option that come up are 'Add a program from CD-ROM or Floppy Disk' and 'Add Programs from Microsoft'. I can still Add/Remove Windows Components and Set Program Access and Defaults. Is it possible this is a virus? If so, what do I do with it? Or since this is a work laptop can the IT guys make it so I can't access it? Please help me!!

PS. I don't have the option to have the IT guys fix this. I just need to make it function again.

Hi.
I am trying to remove programs that I do not need to free up some space.

I came across this "phonics" program in the Add or Remove Programs list. When i tried to click to see details, this is the message I got:

"An error occurred while trying to remove Phonics. You do not have access to E:\setup.exe.
You can specify the new uninstall program below."

Then it has a form fill line and beside that a "Browse" button, then a "Ok" and "Cancel".

My question is What the heck is this and do I need it on my computer? It does not list support information like most of the other programs do.

Please help.... I am confused!

Answer:Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP: Found "Phonics" Tried to remove error code. What?

To my knowledge, it is not needed. Do you have kids? I sounds like a kids program or part of one. I am new to this list, but have lots of hands on experience.

Going to the control panel and clicking on the add remove icon - no problem. selecting the the unwanted program OK

Am I sure I want to remove it ----Yes

Alert - some files are used by other processes, please close and try again. Same thing happens.

eventually a message will show saying ---fatal error during installation.

This program keeps tring to show-- slowing down the computer boot up.

Any way I can disable it or better still remove it

I got this stupid malware problem yesterday, the infamous Windows Warning Message malware, and I had originally run TrendMicro in safe mode and was able to remove about 7 trojans/viruses from the computer. Then I re-ran TrendMicro and was given a clean bill of health. Then when I restarted my computer in regular mode, I was automatically logged off after I typed in my logon password. I then retried to run my PC in safe mode, and I was logged off again. How can I further get rid of this darn virus if I cannot log into Windows to run anything??? Thanks for the help!

I have uninstalled KB3035583 which has removed the windows 10 script from my taskbar, however I am still getting a message that there is an important update when I boot up to the initial Windows 8.1 screen before my login. On checking what important updates are available, it is only the Windows 10, KB3035583 that it is obviously trying to get me to update again.

After 2 weeks of failure on updating to Windows 10, I have decided to stay with 8.1. I now want to remove the advice to install importantant updates, that pertain to Windows 10, but still showing those for my Windows 8.1 system. At this point, when getting this message, I don't know if it is still just for Windows 10, or if new updates are available for my 8.1?

Hello

please can you help me?

I run Windows 8.1 and have installed Windows Live Essentials but the install seemed corrupted as I couldn't open the program. The error said that wldlog.dll, wldcore.dll, uxctl.dll were missing. I installed them back using Dll-Files Fixer but the program still didin't work.

I then tried to uninstall Windows Live Essentials with Revo Uninstaller but it said some files are missing. I tried forced uninstall but it failed too, it said some files are missing but didn't say which ones.

If I try opening Windows Live Mail it gives an error, it cannot find an entry point to msmail.dll

I want to completely remove Windows Live Essentials so that I can try a clean re installation but I cannot manage, I think some files are either missing or corrupted and whatever I try fails.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Isabella

Hi

I just bought a Dell 15z 5523 Ultrabook (i7-3517U Processor, 8GB DDR 3 1600 Mhz RAM, 256 GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GT 630M 2GB card etc.) pre-installed with Windows 8, not PRO.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks and I just hate it. I know I know, some of us don't want to learn new things or be forced to change our ways just because of some corporate's whim....

That being said, I have searched quite a bit online, and still haven't found a reliable resource which can help me remove Windows 8 completely and install Windows 7 Home Basic. Have received a lot of contradictory advise.

Dell did not give me a Windows 8 installation disk. Just a drivers CD. I have the old Windows 7 Home Basic installation disk and drivers. Also, I have already activated 8.

If someone asks me to stick with Windows 8 or give benefits of 8 over 7 or tell me to install stuff like Classic Shell it would be a total waste...

Can someone give me a step by step guide or a link which has everything explained?

Regards

Hi,

I had a virus get on my computer through Windows Restore, and I'm trying to get rid of it. Originally I had errors critical error messages popping up on my computer saving the RAM was full, and this screen for Windows Restore popped up on my computer saying it would fix the problem. I didn't know what to do and used information on this site to try and remove the virus myself.

I downloaded and ran rkill and then I ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, which did find some threats and removed them. I've downloaded Avast and Avast also found some threats and removed them. I unistalled the older version of Java I had on my computer, and deleted my cache.

So I thought that I have might of gotten rid of the virus, but when I start my computer I'm getting a message from the right bottom corner of the screen that some startup programs have been blocked. I'm also getting internet explorer script errors almost constantly when I use the internet, and am getting foreign audio coming through my speakers. I don't know what else to do at this point.

I downloaded Hijack This and below is my log, but can anyone tell me based on my Hijack This log if I still have the same Windows Restore Virus, where the virus is located, and how do I remove it?

How do I do this? I tried following a tutorial in the tutorial section, but the option to delete volume in grayed out.

Answer:Remove Windows 10 from dual boot with Windows 7, Win10 installed first

It`s grayed out because it`s the Active partition and has the system files on it, if you were to delete it then Windows 7 would not boot anymore.

The Windows 7 partition must be made Active and the System files have to be written there before you can delete Windows 10.

The proper thing to do is backup your files, wipe out the entire drive and reinstall windows 7

Partition - Mark as Active

I'm curious to know is it safe to delete the $Windows BT files and folder on the C: drive of
my 32bit windows 7 platform..

I don't wish to have windows 10 and I certainly don't agree of Microsoft forcing people to use it, I
believe windows 7 is more stable then Windows 10, 8.1 and any other.. that's my opinion.

Sure it is safe to remove that folder.

The Disk Cleanup app that is native to Windows offers to remove it...

Hi All!
Okay...I have a little problem.

I am trying to Organize & Fix some "Services" running on My System & needed to get into the " Add/Remove Windows Components" Section in the Windows Installer Program but when I try to gain Access to this Particular Area I get a Red X Error that I Do NOT get elsewhere in the Installer's Add Remove Program.

The Error Reads:

" Setup Was Unable To Load the Master Information File"
& then When I Hit <OK> I get Another Red X Message that Reads:
" The Application Could Not Be Initialized ".

I was trying to get windows 10 installed on a (domain-attached) machine, but the install always fails for unspecified reasons. The error code 80070522 does not help me.
Now I want to get rid of this "important update" but I cannot.
There were suggestions elsewhere to remove a certain update, but I do not have the update with the given KB299..... number installed (cannot remember the exact number now).
Any ideas?

Hi,
I am using Windows 7 SP1 [ Genuine ]. My upgrade to windows 10 is ready via windows update but i don't want to install it. Any idea how to remove this option so that normal system updates can be install.
Thanks.

Answer:Remove Windows 10 Upgrade Option via Windows Update

I removed the Windows 10 Upgrade option by removing Windows update KB3035583.

Here?s how:

To remove KB3035583, first open Windows Update and click ?Installed Updates? in the bottom-left corner.

To quickly find KB3035583, you can sort by name. Once you?ve located it, right-click and choose ?Uninstall?.

When you select to uninstall this update, you?ll be asked to confirm and then you will need to restart your computer.

Once your computer restarts, the ?GWX.exe? and its associated ?GWXUX.exe?applications will be removed and the system tray icon and resulting dialog will go away permanently.

If the Icon Returns

Some folks have noted that KB3035583 returns if you don?t hide it. If you have Windows updates set to download and install automatically, this means that if you uninstall this update, it will be reinstalled automatically a few days later.

To hide the KB3035583 update and prevent it from being reinstalled, right-click onit in the Windows Update application and select ?Hide update?.

After, the update?s selection box will be grayed out and cannot be checked. From here on, the update will be hidden whenever you reopen Windows Update unless you decide to restore it.

How do you safely remove Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) from a dual boot with Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit)
I'm quite happy with Windows 8.1 Pro alone

The scenario:
Both are on the same hard drive (a SATA).
Windows 7 was on the hard drive initially. I installed Windows 8.1 on a new partition (which i made from shrinking the Drive C:\)

But since Windows 7 was the original operating system, I had some concern about losing the Master Boot Record(bootloader configuration data) that Windows 7 had established on the drive.

To address this, I've researched quite a few forums about this matter and this is the best i found.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/210983-dual-boot-delete-os.html

So I'm a bit perplexed and hope that the good experts here could steer me in the right direction with a step-by-step.

Thanks for your insights and guidance. Here's a screenshot of my disk management btw

Answer:Dual boot: Remove original windows 7 OS and keep windows 8

The 200 MB partition is probably the 'Active' partition, meaning that is where the boot record is. If you confirm this then the Windows 7 partition can be deleted or re-purposed.

I would like to completely remove Windows 8 from my Lenovo N580 and install Windows 7.  Is this something I can take on myself or does it require a lot of expertise?  I hate Win 8 and 8.1 which have been nothing but problems.  Has anyone done what I am asking on a Lenovo N580 laptop and if so, could you provide full instructions on how I would do this?  I would look over the instructions first and if I feel it's beyond what I am capable of, then I will have a professional do it. Thanks.  Jane

It really problem and direct prohibition does not help here. You can to disable it, turn off and also disable this service at all, but every time You start Windows You'll get the notification, that Windows Defender is turned off and can't protect Your system.
If you want to install another anti-virus program, I recommend you do so:
Open your Windows Defender, then open the "Settings" and uncheck box before "Turn on Real-Time Protection ..." and then "Save changes" . Then go to the "Administrator" and remove the label before "Turn on Windows Defender" and again the "Save changes".
Now close Windows Defender completely. Suggested: open the "Task Manager" => MSASCui.exe => right click on it => "End Process Tree" , on a pop-up window click "End Process Tree"

Now start Windows in safe mode,
To do this, open the "Configure System" (C:\Windows\System32\msconfig.exe) and select "Boot" => "Safe Boot" => Minimal => 'Apply' => 'OK' => Select Restart now . (back : just the opposite of the same act - you choose the "General" => "Normal Startup" => "Apply" => "OK" and restart ...)
NB! (If your Windows is located elsewhere than on disk C:\, then replace this letter).
Now go to the "C:\Program Files" folder and rename the folder "Windows Defender", suc... Read more

I was watching this link: How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8. It got too complex, too long, and it seemed to be getting off track.

I felt the fixes were a little too technical for me and my experience level. Therefore I'm starting a new thread to get suggestions for existing programs that will do this for me. There are all kinds of "fix my pc", "registry fixers", etc. What I'm looking for is responses from those who have tried these programs with a leaning toward my original problem of fixing my Win 7 so I can do updates without installing Win 10.

I thought I had tried all the suggestions on the aforementioned thread but nothing seemed to work. Finally, I tried to update one file which was an optional video driver for my specific video card. Again I got the message of downloading Win 10. I aborted and I'm looking for a better, easier fix which may cost me a little money.

thanks.

You will be able to upgrade to 10 officially regardless, assuming no carrier interference.
If you are already on the 10 Preview, use the Windows Phone REcovery Tool to downgrade.
If you are on 8.1 and don't want Insider updates, I'm not sure, you may want to uninstall Insider.

I did a full install of Windows 10 yesterday and I did not keep any files or documents as I have them backed up on my external drive.  The problem I ran into was that my NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 has no updates for win 10 and does not display properly. My computer came with Windows 7 home premium installed  and I have the product key.  As I have installed the full verion on Windows 10, I cannot recover the computer to win 7.  I did not get a Windows 7 disc when I bought the computer so I need to know if I can download a copy of the Windows 7 Home Premium somewhere and use my current product key? When the computer was new I made a set of recovery discs and I still have those ... I don't know if they can help. Any help and/or advice would be very helpful.  A link to the download would help as well. Thanks in advace for your help.  Jim.

Answer:Remove Windows 10 and Reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium

Yes those discs you made will reinstall W7, disc 1 is bootable, put it in the drive and restart the PC, when you see the Dell logo press ESC key a few times, then select your boot device (cd-dvd rom), it should now boot from disc 1 and start the recovery process, it is a lengthy process, so be patient and dont do anything unless instructed to, it will reboot on its own many many times, do not interrupt the process. When it is done with recovery there will be a screen to start setting up your user name and so forth.

Hello,
I am trying to remove Windows Vista which is my active and main OS that came with my laptop and I had my uncle install Windows 7 for me. He had installed it onto my Recovery Drive so I had to shrink my C: (Windows Vista) and add some space to D: ( Windows 7). Now that I have the space and have been using Windows 7 for a few weeks I would like to get rid of Windows Vista but after reading some things online I do not know how to get rid of Windows Vista because of the boot files that are on them? Is it possible to remove windows Vista and then expand D: with the space that was used for Windows Vista and how would I go about doing this? I am not very technical about computers so please do give clear steps that I can follow by please.
P.S. I created another partition RECOVERY A: because Windows 7 gave me a notification that I should backup my files, but that partition is too small. So how much space should I leave for Recovery? I can not free up any more space from C: (Windows Vista) but I can free some up from my D: (windows 7)

Here are some of the images of the partitions and etc.

Windows 7: After copying data to the SD card, you can ejecta single card and leave another of another type still fully functional.

Windows8: Only can eject USB device. when you ?Safely Removed? the device, you lost access to all ports in your card reader until you logged out and back in again. (behavior seems like WinXP)

How can user eject Removable Disk in Safely Remove Hardware icon like the behavior under windows 7?

So I just purchased this laptop and really dislike windows 8. I have my 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium but I cannot get it to install..I have spent all day researching different ways to perform what should be a simple 'downgrade' to no avail.I've managed to get into the bios.. I've disabled Secure Boot. I've tried switching from UEFI to Legacy. I've tried from both a DVD Rom as well as putting the ISO using Rufus onto a USB stick and setting it to the correct filetypes (GPT Partition for UEFI computers w/ Fat32). I've gotten as far as the windows 7 windows setup starting up but as soon as it starts to copy the files, I get the following error  'Windows cannot open the required file D:\Sources\install.esd.. etc'. This is the same from USB or DVD while set to Legacy (I cannot even get the DVD or USB to boot while in UEFI mode) I've even updated the BIOS from 2.10 to 2.16 as I've also read that a newer version of the BIOS may add the 'Authentication' option to the BIOS. An option that I am currently missing that I've seen on other youtube videos that is listed between security and boot. I've tried setting a BIOS Supervisor password as some sites reported that worked. Nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Headed to bed so wont test and reply till morning. Edit: Grammar.

if you install under Legacy, you don't have to format your USB for GPT and UEFI computers.please notice that you probably need to convert the HDD from GPT to MBR to successfull install. or you can try to install windows 7 using UEFI (this will save you from hardware issues under legacy) and GPT, try to follow those guides:http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.htmlhttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/186875-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windo...

I have a little problem. I have Windows 7 and Windows 10 Enterprise Build 10240 set up in a dual boot configuration on the same hard drive. Windows 7 is the first partition on that drive and Windows 10 is the second. I have decided to keep Windows 10 as my main OS and want to remove Windows 7 and reclaim that space for the Windows 10 partition.

What is the easiest way to accomplish this without a complicated and long procedure? I have tried Easeus Partition Master 10.5, but am unable to format or delete this active partition. I tried to format and/or delete this through Windows 10 as well with no success.

Im no expert on XPe, but you may need to add the components pre-image. I just started working with it myself, and from what i can tell so far is that any component needed to run hardware/software needs to be added when building the image itself.

Answer:How do i remove dual boot of Windows XP and windows 7

If WIn7 was installed last it likely wrote its boot files to the XP partition which is signified by XP wearing the System Active labels in Disk Mgmt. So if you want to remove Win7 you can just delete it.

If you want to remove XP the normal procedure is to mark Win7 partition Active then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times until 7 wears the System Active flags, then you can delete XP.

But because there can be complicating factors I would first post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

1. Type Disk Management in Start Search box.
2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, click New, draw a box around full drive map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Or from XP make your Screenshot with Paint

Tell us what is on each partition and exactly what you'd like to do.

I just bought a used computer with Windows NT operating system and I would like to replace it with Windows 98. I do not have the disc for Windows NT, but I do have my 98 disc. I do not know how to uninstall the NT and would like some help in simple language. There is no information on the computer that I need to save since I will be loading everything I use from scratch.

Answer:How can I shut down (and remove) Windows NT to replace it with Windows 98?

Brenda,

To replace Win NT with 98 is not too easy to do or understand but I will try my best to explain it.

What you need is a Windows 98 Boot disk and the CD.
To create a Windows 98 Boot disk you have to get onto a machine that already has Windows 98 and go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add & Remove Programs. There is a tab there called Windows Setup. You need to put a blank disk in and click on Create boot disk. You may need the CD to load some files that it might ask for.

Once you have a Windows 98 boot disk and the CD. Save anything you need from Windows NT, then put the Windows 98 boot disk in and reboot the machine. It will start loading and it will come up with a question asking do you want CD rom support, Say Yes or 1. It will then continue to load and will come up with an error saying it cannot detect a valid FAT 16 or FAT 32 and it will list suggestion about why. IGNORE this. Once it get the A:\ prompt, type in FDISK and press ENTER. This will display you partition (what you Win NT is in).

To delete the partitions, First got to No. 4 - Display partition and see if you have 1 or 2 of them. Press ESC once. Go to No 3 - Delete partion. Then select No 4 - Delete Non-dos partition. Type in the number of the partition (it should be 1). If you have 2 partitions you will have to do this twice.
ESC Once to go back to the First Menu.

I'm one of those who has hated Windows 10 from the word 'go', but when I bought a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed I thought I could simply take it out and instal Windows 7. Not so! I hadn't realised that because Microsoft wants to force us all to use Windows 10 they no longer include the necessary drivers for Windows 7 in the new machines.

The standard Windows 7 installation discs don't contain these drivers as they have always been found in the computer, so the installation doesn't work. It isn't possible to find drivers online, no doubt because Microsoft has made this impossible. I did discover how to remove Windows 10 stuff that I didn't want, like Edge and all gaming programmes and associated files but still yearned for the fine control that I used to have over my own computer with Windows 7.

I have just today discovered that the company I use for computer help and repair - which isn't often as I can do most things myself - can supply these drivers and is happy to visit me and install them and Windows 7 on my computer, so that I can get rid of the hated Windows 10.

So the answer is to contact the professionals, who are able to do things that we lesser mortals can't. I'm having this done at the end of this month when I can afford to have the computer down for a couple of days whilst I instal all the updates and put my programmes back in. If anyone in the same position doesn't know how to get help, I'll happily put you in contact with my boys. The compa... Read more

I am dual booting Windows 10 and Windows 8.1. Each operating system is on a separate physical solid state drive. My default is Windows 10. The Windows 10 OS was installed on the drive that originally contained Windows 7 when I dual booted Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. I don't have drive partitions to deal with as each operating system is on a separate physical drive.

Now I would like to remove the dual boot by removing Windows 8.1, leaving just Windows 10. That will leave me with an unused SDD.

When I am in Windows 10, the default OS, the msconfig Boot section shows Windows 10 as the default, as it should. To remove the dual boot, can I just Delete Windows 8.1 from the Boot section of msconfig and make the setting permanent?

Thanks

Answer:How to remove Windows 8.1 from dual boot with Windows 10

It depends where your boot files are. Does 10 boot if you remove the SSD with 8.1 on? If so yes - just delete it from msconfig.

You don't need "Make all boot settings permanent" as this only applies to the options in the "Boot options" box. If you don't tick it selecting "Normal" on the general tab will reset boot options. If you tick it then it won't.

I want to give my son my laptop but I do not want to leave anything on it except windows xp. Can I do this myself.

Answer:Remove everything off PC except Windows XP

The quickest way is to insert the xp cd (if you have one) and reinstall. this will format and install a fresh copy of xp.Do you have a restore option? See manual that came with laptop.Other than that you can manually go in and remove installed programs and being careful documents and personal information. Will take some time though.

Hello

After I did my clean install and all that I have tried to remove the windows.old folder but it says that it's no longer found there, yet it still shows up on my C drive.

I did remove some stuff out of it ok, but the windows and user folders are still there or at least show up as being there anyway (in the windows.old folder).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Mat

Answer:Can not remove Windows.old

I keep getting these annoying CiD pop-ups that adertise random companies. I dont know how to remove them. None of the spyware cleaners work. What can i do?

Thanks for your time.

Answer:Help remove CiD pop-ups (windows xp)

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi, help me about my problem. I have 2 partitions 1 is installed with windows 7 and another 1 is XP, I used Windows 7 and format the Drive D. After that Earlier Version of Windows is still in Boot Manager, is there a way to remove it? without formatting all partitions? thank you.. And also What MBR(Master Boot Record) Means? If i rebuild it with Partition Wizard can it be fix and remove XP? or it could damage my OS(7)?rolleyes

Answer:Windows XP how to remove:::

Hi,
The option/entry to boot from XP is not part of the MBR, so rebuilding the MBR will not remove that entry.

If I understand correctly, you had XP on partition D: and formatted that partition so that you no longer have XP installed and want to remove it from showing up in the list when you boot up. If XP no longer exists then you can try the following to remove it from the boot manager.

Go to Start and type in msconfig in the search box and hit <enter>.
In the window that opens under the boot tab it should list both Win7 and XP. You can highlight XP and then hit the delete button. That will remove the choice of XP when starting up.

Question: remove windows 7

OK - I've had it with Win 7. Today it decided that the OS is not valid. This was preinstalled by manufacturer with what I was assured was a genuine copy of Windows 7. There was no actual disk. This has been working well (it ins own inimitable Win 7 way) for approximately 9 months.Yesterday m/c decided it was not genuine, and now spends all its time warning me, demanding a further 139 for a "Genuine" win 7 disk, and wiping off my nice desktop background!!I don't like the Win 7 much anyway, and as I have a 100% genuine XP disk, I plan to go back to that - what snags might there be? And can I still get SP3 from MS for free, please?

Answer:remove windows 7

You can still get SP3. If the PC came with preinstalled W7 then I assume your mobo disk will have drivers for W7. You will have to search for XP drivers. Why not give Microsoft a call stating your problem first? click here

Question: Remove Windows 7

Okay so I need some expert advice on how to downgrade my windows 7 to windows XP , so I had a original copy of Windows XP on my computer and my friend told me W7 is better so I went on a torrent and downloaded some russian version of the OS I somehow magically got it to run in English and now I have a problem I can't go back to Windows XP my parents use this computer and it takes about 20 minutes just to log in , I've tried putting the CD disc for the windows 7 I installed and I can not remove drive "C:\" in cmd because it's in use . I'm thinking of making a new partition and then deleting it but just not sure that will work , can anyone please help me get Windows XP back on my computer because this Russian version I got running is not letting me do a thing.

Answer:Remove Windows 7

Howdy and welcome. You are going to have to do a complete re-install with a legitimate (non-torrent) installation disk. If you still have your original XP disk, you could use that.

thanks,

Answer:can not remove windows.old

Hi: Since I don't know what you have tried, this is the way I (and most others) delete the Windows.old folder. Run the disk cleanup utility. When you get to the disk cleanup window, click on the cleanup system files button on the lower left side of the window. The utility will run again, and when it gets to the window, check all of the boxes to delete the files. One of them will be the windows.old folder.

Is it possible to remove a new computers windows 10 operating system..how can it be done and what do I need TIA

Answer:Help please: is it possible to remove windows 10

What are you going to replace Win10 with? Are there drivers available from the maker for the Operating System you will use? Many times when a new OS is on a new machine it can't be downgraded to an older version of the OS. It might work if going to Linux and one of the 250-some versions will work.

Hi everyone! Last month I tried to install Windows 8 on my Acer Aspire 5560 laptop. Now, due to acer's HORRIBLE EFI, I am unable to boot Windows 8. I actually came close to bricking my laptop, it wouldn't let me adjust BIOS settings or anything else until I pulled the battery. I re-installed Windows 7, and now I'm stuck. Is there a way I can use Windows 8 without EFI? Can I just remove the EFI directory on my flash drive? Or what. Help would be great. Thanks guys!

Answer:Anyway to remove EFI from Windows 8?

Hi there
actually there's nothing wrong with EFI -- although you need to find out if the machine can use "Traditional BIOS" as well -- it probably will as pure EFI machines AFAIK are at the moment just APPLE machines.

Go into your BIOS and see if you can see UEFI option YES / NO.

Windows 8 will use UEFI if it can by default rather than the other way around -- and this will mean creating a GPT type disk.

I'd suggest you try and set the option off in your BIOS if you can.
Then image your W7 system in case W8 gives problems again so you can restore if it all doesn't work.

Now re-install W8 again

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:To remove windows xp

How did you end up with the boot files for Win7 and Xp on D? It's a strange arrangement. Normally if on a dedicated partition they would be on System Reserved which is only 100mb. What do you have them mingled with on D?

But boot files would have to be on a primary partition to continue booting Win7 on a Logical partition (intended for data) which cannot host boot files.

Since XP is also on a Logical partition and doesn't contain boot files (the Boot flag only means it is the OS which is presently booted) you can simply delete it in Disk Mgmt and recover the space into Win7 by extending it into the deleted XP space: Partition or Volume - Delete
Partition or Volume - Extend

But when you boot into Win7 if it is not showing as C then you may have incorrectly installed it from XP which locked out the C drive letter. Win7 is designed to be installed from a booted installer so that no matter how many other OS's are multi-booting it will always show as C when booted. Most users don't want Win7 on another letter than C, so you may want to consider doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 (same for retail).

If you do this then I'd delete all partitions and start over with a decent partition scheme created by the installer which will issue the 100mb System Reserved boot partition once you delete all.

Question: remove windows 7

Multiboot (single drive 3 partitions) XP. vista, Windows 7. Since W7 doesn't see my wireless adapter, it's pretty useless. So how do I remove Windows 7 and reclaim that drive space, while leaving XP and Vista alone?

Answer:remove windows 7

Hi,

Did you try the Vista drivers for your network adapter on 7 ?

You may need to use the Compatibility tab - right click the drivers select Properties>Compatibility set it Vista , Apply OK.

To remove 7: Boot into Vista, type msconfig in start search box - open it when it pops up, click the Boot tab.

Click on Vista to highlight it and set it as Default.

Click on 7 to highlight it and Delete the entry , Apply, OK.

Vista Disk Management will allow you to delete the 7 partition.

Hope it helps
