My Dell Ispiron 1750 cant detect hard drive.

Question: My Dell Ispiron 1750 cant detect hard drive.

I think one of my kids may have dropped it! But when I went to use it, it would not boot up. first you get the Logo then black screen. I ran a diagnostic and it says, can't detect hard drive, try reseat, so I did that and it didn't do anything? Anyone have some advise?

Preferred Solution: My Dell Ispiron 1750 cant detect hard drive.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My Dell Ispiron 1750 cant detect hard drive.

Well if the hard drive is not being detected at all....could get icky. Ideally, I would remove the drive and try cloning the hard drive to a new hard drive likely also had the dell recovery partition, which along with your data are most important. If the a techi can't do it because the drive is not recognized by recovery software, then it gets ickier, and data recovery becomes more time consuming and costly (they may have to try replacing the hard drive circuit board) and it goes on from there....icky and costly. So I hope you get lucky, but you may have grin and bear it....remembering to back up in the future. No one ever thinks the kids will drop it....but it happens. They put peanut butter sandwiches in the vcr's didn't they!

Got a problem, scoured the net, could not find a solution. Couple of problems, appreciate any help anyone might be able to lend.

I have acquired a Dell Optiplex GX1 350 (Pentium II) with a Quantum Viking II 2.0GB hard drive, slow CD-ROM, 4MB Video and NIC card.

I installed Windows 98SE on it with no problems. Then, I acquired a 32MB video card. I opened the case, realized it was the wrong kind of slot, so I put the case back together and tried to reboot.

First issue: Received a message on bootup saying PXE-E61 - media test failure, check cable. I read up on this and everything I could find suggested that the system was trying to boot through the network card (no network hooked up at this time), so I disabled it.

Now comes my big issue, when booting now, the system could not find a boot device. The hard drive is SCSI, and the BIOS advises to select NONE for the setting if it is a SCSI device (it's one of those BIOS that allows primary/secondary with choices of AUTO, NONE, and other drive types with cylinders, heads, and sectors).

The hard drive spins on startup, but for the life of me, I can't get this thing detected. I unplugged and plugged the cables back in, nothing. Removed it, put it back in, still same thing.

I am at a loss, I simply need the thing to detect the hard drive... any ideas? I'm open to pop ups if I'm around. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell optiplex cannot detect hard drive

Had the same error message...
Solution, Go into the BIOS and remove PXE from the boot order. This will stop the PC from trying to boot off the network.

Dear All,
I have a external usb hard drive by HP, dvd550s-H03 8 which my dell XPS computer is not detecting. Seems like the hard drive does not need any drivers. So that is not an issue. Can someone help me a bit here ?
Many thanks,

Answer:Dell XPS L321X does not detect external usb hard drive

Hi Ashim,
Please try connecting the USB drive into an alternative USB port and see if it helps. You may also try using an alternate USB device such as mouse, flash drive etc to verify the functionality of USB ports.
If the USB ports are not working properly, you may follow the steps below to uninstall USB root hubs and restart the system :

Unplug all USB devices from the computer.
Press Windows + R button on keyboard
Type 'devmgmt.msc' without quotes and press Enter
The Device Manager window will open
Click on > sign next to ‘USB Universal Bus Controllers’ to expand the category.
Right click on each entry listed under USB Universal Bus Controllers and click on ‘Uninstall’.
Click on ‘Yes’ on the security warning.
Restart the computer and Windows will automatically install generic drivers for USB Root Hubs.

If the issue persists after refreshing USB root hubs, you may update the chipset drivers from Here -> Enter the Service Tag of system -> Click on Drivers and Downloads -> select the operating system installed on your computer -> Expand the 'chipset' category and download/install the drivers -> Restart the computer when prompted and check if the hard drive is getting detected.
If you have any questions, please share the system model along with the Operating system installed on computer. Will take it further from there.

I have a Dell Dimension XPS 720. My PC has two sata hard drives and one IDE hard drive. When I boot the PC tells me that it doesn't detect any hard drive in sata 3. Then it asks me to press F1 to continue. But, when I get into my OS which is Vista Ultimate, I check 'My Computers' and my second hard drive appears. And sata hard drive works fine.

I've gone into BIOS. Each SATA port also lists the model number of the sata hard drive, but the sata drive I'm having problems with isn't listed and yes the hard drive sata port is set to 'ON'.

I should also note that I never used to have problems with this hard drive in the past. It used to show up on the BIOS drive list.

I need help fixing this problem.

Answer:Dell XPS PC BIOS does not detect my sata hard drive, but the Vista OS does?

If the drive is "seen" by the OS, it has to be detected by the bios. Swap the SATA drives and see if the bios now "sees" the former phantom drive

Hi, I've had various error messages....internal hard drive disk not found; no bootable devices; start up repair finds no solution..... I have reseated the hard drive several times. Sometimes this solves the problem, however, the computer runs extremely slow. Dell Data Safe had recommended replacing the hard drive ''couple of months" ago. Any suggestions?

Answer:Inspiron 1750 - Hard Drive Crash (Windows 7)

The hard drive is in its death spiral.  You'll need a new, 2.5" 9.5  mm or slimmer SATA notebook drive (and if you haven't made recovery media yet, you'll want to do that NOW, before the drive completely fails).

After windows 10 auto install I uninstalled it and then couldn't access the wireless network. After researching and talking with Dell support, they recommended back-up files and created a reboot disc and reinstall default configuration from factory. I did all that and now my system won't load Windows. Black screen with curser in upper left corner.
NOW, I read that Windows 10 was NOT tested or recommended for my model!! Not happy!

Press F12 at powerup and boot to the Dell diagnostics - run an extended test on the hard drive.

Wondering if you can give me any help, trying to get my old Armada to recognize the rest of the new hard drive I had installed?

Was getting warnings that a failure of my hard drive was imminent. One of the computer support staff where my wife works volunteered to replace the drive. He replaced the original 4 GB drive with a Hitachi 30gb 4200rpm notebook drive, 16Jun2004, provided me with a disk to boot the PC from and directions shown in italics listed below to install Win 98, however, the machine only recognizes 4 GB. Any idea what can be done to rectify this?

Armada 1750 PC Pentium II 333mhz, Running Win 98, Rev 4.10.222

This is the sequence of events that occur on this PC upon power up::

1> COMPAQ screen

insert disk
press a key

I would recommend after you format the drive C, to install windows, is to make the folder on the c drive, create windows folder then an options folder then a cabs folder, then change to this directory, should say c:\windows\options\cabs

5> In DOS, formatted drive ?format c?. then created folders as directed.

A new user on this site and I hope someone can help me.

Having hard drive problems on a Compaq Armada 1750 Laptop.

The SMART technology on the drive is issuing a warning about an imminent drive failure.

Looking thru various internet help sites have fount that the physical replacement of the drive does not seem very hard, but leaves me with a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with.

1) When the new drive is installed, how does one get the operating system back up on the new drive and running? The data has been backed up and applications can be re-loaded easily.

2) Can the original sized drive be replaced with a larger drive, i.e. 40GB that seem much more common in the stores?

Thanks for the Help

Answer:Hard drive problems on a Compaq Armada 1750 Laptop

My 40gb in my Compaq Laptop died after two years. Go to Best Buy and get yourself a new drive, and pull out the old drive and put in the new. Cannot be easier than that.

This is the drive I put in mine (quiet, and faster):, and it is only $139.99. The 100gb Seagate is $199.99.

I forgot to add, if you still have the Restore CD's you should have no problem reinstalling WinXP, just remember to not plug into the Internet, until you have loaded a A/V product such as AVG, and enabled the Firewall.

Suggested software to install: AVG Anti-Virus, Sygate Firewall, SpywareGaurd, Firefox for web browsing, Thunderbird for email. If you have any questions on installing the new drive, Private message me, since I did mine not that long ago like I stated at the beginning, and I can help you out if you have any questions.

My Inspiron 5555 laptop won't start. I've tried the various remove battery and AC adapter and press/hold power button solutions to no avail. The AC adapter power light is lit.  I;ve left the battery out many hours and then tried restarting on AC alone. Tried recharging the battery with case closed overnight. The power light on the front left of the case is not lit when the adapter is plugged in. The last time it was working, the laptop went to sleep. I was unable to wake it. The unit felt warm but not alarmingly hot.
This wasn't the first time I was unable to turn on the unit, but it would eventually cooperate after I left it alone a few hours. It only ever happened after the unit went to sleep.  I've also experienced the random reboot problem too.
The 1 year warranty expired in 3 months ago. :-(  Hard to diagnose when it won't start. Could it be the power port? I notice that the plug can wiggle/pivot when inserted. Thanks for your advice.

Old Dell Ispiron 1150 Laptop - Reinstallation

I have an old Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop that my dad would like to use as a back up for his new laptop. It needs a complete installation, but when I put the disk in it comes back with No bootable devices. If I look at the Set Up Page the Primary Hard Disk Drive says 0 none found.

Can anyone tell me how I rectify this.

PS.....I have taken the hard disk drive out and put it back in again, as that was fix suggested on a different site, but it didn't work.

Answer:Old Dell Ispiron 1150 Laptop - Reinstallation

What Windows version are you going to install and do you have this on CD/DVD?
If so then boot into the BIOS (key/s to press will show as soon as you boot the laptop, need cat like reflexes to generally press them first time) and change the boot order to CD/DVD as the first boot device (that is if the press any key to boot from CD/DVD does not show as soon as you boot the laptop).

Then pop the CD/DVD disk in the drive and save and exit (F10) the BIOS and the Windows install procedure should start, then follow the prompts.

Reason for the No Bootable Devices found could be that the HDD is not setup with Windows and its bootloader.

my dell inspiron 1545 installed with os windows7 but web cam driver is not support kindly help me how to get win7 supported webcam driver

Answer:web cam not support win7 in dell ispiron 1545

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Have you gone to Dell's support and driver update site and entered your service code to search for one? In some cases, you have to check the box on the page to "show all drivers" to find it.

What version of Windows was originally installed on the PC? If it was/is Windows 7, Dell's website should have it. If it was Vista, the Vista driver on Dell's website *may* work on Windows 7 (but is not a guaranteed fix).

Hope this helps.

I think I have a big problem:

For a couple of weeks, I had a bad RAM module (512 MB) in my Inspiron 9300. Sometimes my laptop crashed, just like last night. But when I booted (very slow) my laptop this morning, my fans immediately runned at 100%. So I removed the bad RAM module and did a system restore, hoping this would help. It didn't. Then I started I8kfanGUI and these are the results:

CPU speed: 220 Mhz (should be 800 idle and 2000 stressed)
Temperature: 85 C (normal peak values are 70 degrees, idle: 35 degrees)
CPU load: mostly 100 %, base load is about 60 %
Fans: CPU: 5345 RPM and Nvidia fan: 5231 RPM, so both at max...
GPU, Memory, Chipset temperature: missing! strange...

What can I do about it? Will a complete format help, or is this a hardware issue... Maybe Bios? I just hope my CPU isn't damaged... Warranty is over.

Many thanks

What I forget to mention:

Last weekend, the laptop of my battery failed during gaming... It still works, but the battery led on the laptop, which is normally green, shows 4 times orange (short) and 1 time green (long). However, this battery doesn't feel hot...

Lately I have been noticing that my laptop has started slowing down so I decided to use the recovery option in the settings app on Windows 10 to reinstall Windows 10 and hopefully have a better experience overall. After I have finished the process, I installed the AMD driver (crimson edition) to make sure things will work properly, but when I opened the driver software, under the display section I have a message saying "No displays are currently connected to AMD products" and under the system section there are 3 labels on the top, overview, software and hardware. Next to hardware the following is written "AMD Radeon (TM) HD 8500M/8700M (Disabled)". I tried the GPU and GPU stress tests on the Dell website and on both of them the score was lower than expected. I opened the DirectX Diagnostics Toll (DXDIAG) and I had Display 1 and Display 2, 1 being the Intel HD graphics and 2 being the AMD one. When I opened the Device Manager, under Display Adapter I can see both the Intel HD graphics and the AMD card and everything seems fine. I tried to compare my benchmarks in games (League of Legends, Battlefield 4, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor) to what other people got with this card yet my results were lower. Anything I can do? Maybe I didn't install it properly? If so what should I do? Thanks for any help.

Answer:AMD Radeon HD 8730m disabled on DELL Ispiron 5521

The question is, was the AMD GPU working after the recovery but BEFORE you attempted to install the driver you installed?
Bear in mind there is indeed no display directly attached to the AMD GPU on this system - the display is connected ONLY to the Intel GPU, which funnels ALL video data, even if processed through the AMD GPU, through to the display panel.

I've just installed Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 6000. Most everything is working great, but the audio icon says "No Audio Output Device is installed".

Device manager shows "Multimedia Audio Controller" under Other Devices, but the Update Driver button doesn't find any drivers.

Before I installed I checked and saw that it's a SigmaTel C-Major Audio device. I downloaded the recommended driver (9524859.exe), but when I run the installer it says "Device Object not present".

I also tried running the installer in XP SP2 compatibility mode, but got the same response.

I saw there was another post where a user was able to get it running, but no mention of what driver was used.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell inspiron 1750

It would be best to return the system to the seller for a refund.  If that's not possible, they'll need to transfer ownership to your name, so you can call Dell and have the password removed.  This will cost you a support call (about $60 in the US).
If they cannot initiate a transfer for you, you're going to be adding the cost of a replacement system board (which could be a few hundred dollars) to what you paid for the system.

2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next"

3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Hello Guys

This is my first post so any assistance would be much appreciated.

Recently the touchpad on my dell inspiron 1750 seems to lock / freeze on start up, occasionally it will reacivate after 10/15 mins but on most other occasions i need to remove the battery and restart.

Over the last couple of days the keyboard seems to freeze as a result of approx 10/15 mins of inactivity - again need to restart the laptop to reactivate.

Have tried the following with no success:

1) System Restore
2) Downloaded the touchpad driver from the Dell website - still no luck.

External mouse and keyboard seem to be working fine.

If you require any further info then please let me know but this is really beginning to frustate me so any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1750 Touchpad

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

I'm guessing here but I would suspect that your laptop is going into sleep/hibernation and just tapping the Keybaord or the Touchpad doesnt always bring Windows back to life, so just try this for me as a test.

Leave the laptop for the 10/15mins and then check its non responsive, if so then and just press the power button once, a quick one press, dont hold it down, press and release quickly and see if that helps, I get this issue on my netbook.

Have you installed any new software just before this happened, and if so what?

Check device manager for any devices with yellow ! marks by them and if so what?

A while back i got a inspiron 1750  laptop as part of a school certification in rubyonrails.
This was 2010 or so.
The bummer is as i understood this was a 64bit laptop.. but the school wouldnt let dell put a vista64 on it.. only vista32) ..they also previously wouldnt give us Apple laptops.
Anyway,,  just to see if it would work,.. I put win10 on it.. (but of course its not licensed) ..But i already have a tablet and a desktop both that are win10 (tablet is a surfacepro3 and desktop is a very new win7deskttop that was easy to go to win10.
Anyway, I have dvd for slackware and a dvd for mint18-cinnemon (spelling i know)
Im having problems with getting the built in wireless to work as it did previously.
In fact it worked win i had vista32 and a older linux .... dual boots usualy seem to make things work easier.
So I know linux will work on the laptop in a dualboot..      Any linux related advise as far as drivers??
.. im going to try the linux forum suggestions i have...Im not going to buy a new laptop... my tablet is in fact has more ram and more power and more hd..   but  do figure on doubling the ram on the laptop..and maybe even chk into having a ssd in the laptop.. ?

Unfortunately, even if you did get someone else's discs, I don't think they will work. With the recent ones I've created, the Recovery Disc's tie to the S/N of the PC, preventing them from being distributed. If you really need them, I would call Dell to purchase them, or see if you can get an OEM disc of your operating system and do a fresh install. That would be my recommendation anyway as it will prevent all the crap-ware from being installing on your PC.

Hi !
I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 LapTop with 4Gb installed. 2 x 2Gb working fine.
I bought 2 x 4Gb DDR2 6400 800Mhz, once I installed the 2 memories the laptop didn't start, only the white light shows on. No fan, no hard drive running.

I installed only one memory on slot 2 and the computer works fine.
I switched the memory to slot 1 and again the laptop doesn't start.

Seems that slot 1 is faulty. But it used to work fine before I tried to install the new memories.

Now I can only use slot 2 with a 2Gb or the 4Gb. If I put both 2 Go like it was the laptop won't start.

Any idea how to make it works?

Answer:Upgrade memory dell Inspiron 1750

Unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Be sure both modules are firmly seated - try powering up with both of them.  If the system won't, but both modules work in one socket but not the other, the only thing you can do is replace the mainboard.  While it is technically possible to replace just the socket, the labor alone for that will exceed the cost of a replacement board.

My Dell Inspiron 1750 is a 2Ghz Dual Core Pentium CPU & has only 2 X 1GB of DDR2 PC2-6400 800Mhz SODIM Ram & uses a Hitachi 160GB HDD Sata 1.

About a year ago I upgraded this computer to W10 for a family member who has now given it to me & I have re-installed W10 on this laptop which has no drivers to instal as it is all done by Windows.

The performance is very sluggish like it has always been but thats why i'd like to try 2 X 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 80Mhz SODIM Ram (can get some new ram for <?14 (DDR2 PC2-6400 2 X 2GB)) & run a mSata in it for the new performance it will have.

What I want to know as could not find out what is the max speed & size ram I can use & will the above improvements work my A/V software has reported to me "low ram" & "high disk write".

Could I put 2 X 4GB of ram in this or not as speeding it up would make it sellable

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1750 Performance Problem

From this:

It looks like that system supports up to 8GB RAM that is DDR2-800. Get two 4GB DDR2-800 modules and pop them in. That will get you 8GB of RAM, much better than the 2GB you are dealing with now.

Hello, I am working on a friend's Dell Inspiron 1750 with Vista Basic, I don't know any other specs right off. He brought it to me because it wouldn't boot and startup repair couldn't fix it. He said He just renewed his McAfee.

Normal, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Net, Safe Mode with Command, Last Known Good Configuration, and Disable Driver Signature Enforcement all fail with STOP 0x7B before rebooting (safe mode BSOD's right after CI.DLL, I tried replacing it with a copy from the repair disc, but it didn't help)

I ran Windows Defender Offline, it found some adware but thats it.
Startup Repair Fails with "BadDriver"
System Restore Failed with "Catastrophic Failure" for all 4 points I tried
sfc /scannow wont run something about a pending repair
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows found corrupt files but couldn't fix them

I have tried changing between ATA and AHCI

All Dell Diagnostics Passed
I only have access to a repair disc and I don't know what his backup habits are so clean Install is a last resort

Any Idea What I Should try Next? Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 1750 Vista Won't Boot

Hello Shadow4.2,

Your error, INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, can be caused by many things.

I suggest running Memtest86+ for at least one pass, then run the HDD manufacturer's drive diagnostic software.

I suggest downloading the UBCD. If you do PC repair on a regular basis, it will come in handy as it contains most HDD diagnostics, Multiple memory diagnostics and other tools...

You can download the latest .iso from the link in my signature.

I wouldn't put too much stake in the Dell Diagnostics. It only runs a cursory memory test and a S.M.A.R.T. HDD self test... A full media scan is recommended at this point.

Well I had to send my motherboard into service so I borrowed mums laptop a dell inspiron 1750.
The laptop screen is not my favorite cup of tea so to speak. And today I bought an adapter to connect my regular monitor to the laptop. And the dell won't recognize it at all. Trying to send a simple inquire to dell support is impossible, would need to pay for their support. Thought it could have been driver issues or so but can't find anything about it. This laptop originally shipped with windows 7, but mum upgraded to windows 8 during the early campaign when it was like 20? now it's upgraded to win8.1.

Any ideas how I can get this horrible laptop to recognize my screen?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1750 won't recognize external screen.

Most all Notebooks/Laptops have a VGA port or DVI port that allows connecting a projector or external monitor. It is controlled by a key combination of Fn + Fx which toggles the port On or Off. There's three settings, LCD Panel only, External port only, or both at the same time.

On my Dell Inspiron 15R it's the Fn + F1, others may be F5 or F8, usually marked by a symbol resembling a TV/Monitor. The proper F key usually is marked in the same color as the Fn key but have seen some Notebooks where that was reversed, just pressing F key worked. Have also seen one newer Notebook with only an HDMI video port.

Hello all

I'm not sure if Ive done something when trying to install KIES... which I don't have a clue about but since then I cannot send from either.

My DELL says it has been paired with my GALAXY S2 but all sent items are FAILED!

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thanking you in advance .

Answer:Cannot connect bluetooth from samsung s2 to dell inspiron 1750

Hi, try to update the bluetooth drivers. That might help.

1. Open Control Panel by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel search box, type Bluetooth, and then click Change Bluetooth settings.
3. In the Bluetooth Settings dialog box, click the Options tab and do the following:
To make your computer discoverable to Bluetooth enabled devices, select the check box for Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer.
When a Bluetooth enabled computer is in discovery mode, it broadcasts a wireless signal that allows it to be detected by other computers or devices. This is sometimes called pairing mode. If you check this box, your computer will still be able to detect Bluetooth enabled devices that are in discovery mode, but they will not be able to detect your computer.
a) To allow you to add Bluetooth enabled devices to your computer, select the check box for “Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer”.
b) To be notified when a Bluetooth enabled device is trying to connect to your computer, select the check box for “Alert me when a new Bluetooth device wants to connect”.

I have a dell 1750 laptop that I just replaced the hard drive with a new exact same hard drive that was in there I went to reinstall windows from the recovery disk and it never gets past the 7 logo I never even get to the option of installing the OS. I tried a Vista Disk does the same thing. I tried an XP disk and does the same thing. I did a bios update and put the hard drive in compatibility mode same issue on all 3 Operating Systems. I ran the dell diagnostic that come with the computer and everything tests fine. I tried to load all 3 OS off a jump drive and same issue. I ran hardware diagnostics off the Ultimate Boot Disk all hardware comes back fine. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks.

ok. So i have three Dell Poweredge 1750 servers, and am attempting to make use of them and install linux based servers on all of them. Most preferably ubuntu. I tried just plugging the cd in, and booting like any old computer, my ISO freezes at the ubuntu splash screen, or i should describe it as the screen with the options for the "Install Ubuntu Server", "rescue a broken system" ext. So i go to the dell website and look around. I see that they have the Server Management ISO for my server. I download it, and it boots, so i know it is nothing wrong with the computer, due to the reason that it boots to a LIVE cd environment just fine. So i go back to the dell site, and see that ubuntu is not compatible with the "Server Management" disks they have, but it seems the only way to install. Does anyone know how to get around this, or if i am missing the right ISO from dell so i can continue with the ubuntu install. Thanks, This is probably a rookie question, as i am new to the world of dedicated rackmount servers.

Answer:Dell Poweredge 1750's installing Ubuntu Server problems?

well, the Server Management disks to not allow me to boot to the ubuntu linux that i know and love, it is only allowing me to use the Fedora Enterprise servers, the SuSE servers, or Microsoft, and if i attempt to place a disk with Ubuntu on it, the Server Management refuses it. I guess this is kinda confusing. But to be honest, i am a bit confused as well. Failed OS's so far: Ubuntu Server 12.4, Ubuntu Server 11.10, Ubuntu Server 10.4, CentOS, OpenSUSE, ext extThe only thing that might work is the Server Management thing. I just want to know how to boot to regular disks.

I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 graphics card on my Dell Inspiron 1750 laptop. The laptop has only a VGA output, and no HDMI output.

Also, I just bought a Sony 50W656A TV. The TV works just fine, and I'm able to play movies using an USB hard-drive, external subtitles and all.

My only problem is that I cannot play any games on the TV as it is, because the TV has no VGA input. I remember reading that with this graphics card I could output YPbPr through the VGA port, with the proper cable. However, I cannot find where (if I remember correctly) read that.

Has anyone tried this?

Thank you for your comments.

Answer:ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 on Dell Inspiron 1750 - VGA to YPbPr

There's nothing in the Dell manual about that. But, there are VGA to HDMI adapters however, that will probably only get you video and not audio, like is in the "standard" HDMI output on a PC.

I can't seem to find my hard drive. I accidently reset my computer, and so it went to check disk at start up. Nothing unusual, but my 3RD hard drive comes up. Not the one containing my windows. It scans it gets to stage 3 of 3 then crashes. Windows starts up again, great. Now when it goes past the windows screens it just stays there for like 15+ min plus doing nothing. So I switched my hard drive around and okay my bios is detected my hard drive, but when I get to windows it self. It doesn't show my hard drive anywhere. It shows all my other hard drives. Its on primary slave and i set my hard drive to slave but still nothing. I think it may have corrupted something when i first resetted, but only problem now is that i cant even format it if i cant even find it. I can't seem to find it using memory management, and even system restoring can't seem to bring it back up. Now when I load up check disk I cant event seem to find it. On my bios it detects that it is connected to my computer, but windows can't find it any help?

Any help would be great,

Hi everyone, I have an issue I can't seem to fix. Whenever my computer starts up, it says something like this:

No bootable drive found--strike F1 to retry booting, F2 for setup utility. Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics.

If I press F1, it still doesn't work. I tested it and everything went well except the DST SHort test which said that there is no Hard Drive. I just want to know if I can fix it by myself or if I have to waste money at the computer repair store.

P.S. Writing this from my sis' laptop

Answer:Can't Detect Hard Drive

Take a look in the bios and make sure that you have in the BOOT area the following:

Hard Drives or Hard Drive Priority - Make sure whatever it says in there, it is set to the drive you want to boot from.

Second, we need specs like the motherboard and type (Sata or IDE) drive and brand name with model if possible.

Answer:hard drive not detect

You have 2 drives and three operating systems? Are these physical drives or partitions? Are the physical drives partitioned? Please note that each operating system will label 'C' the drive or partition that IT is loaded on. To reduce confusion, go by the size of the drive and then add a name (label) to each drive (XP System, Vista System, W7 System, Files, Back-Up, etc.). By using the same names in each operating system, you will not get confused. Please clarify the above information for us to help you.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. If all else fails, read instructions.

Dell Inspiron 1750, Windows 7 x64 - no wifi access through my Windstream 2wire router.

Other devices both Mac and PC are still connecting through my router so I'm pretty sure it's in the DELL. Out of warrantee of course.

I can see networks in the "connect to a network" box but when I try to connect to them, it brings up a box that says unable to connect to network. Most of the time the wireless status icon shows 5 unlit bars with an orange dot over them.

The only suggestion from trouble shooter is reset the router by turning it off and on. No go there.

I can connect with ethernet cable with no problem.

I've tried the "flush.bat" and other suggestions in other forums with no success.

My network adapter - Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN - I've updated the driver
it says it's working.

[I'll attach IPCONFIG images.]

I'm sure hoping the smart helpers might get me wifi-ing again.

Answer:No wifi access Dell Inspiron 1750 Win7 x64 Windstream 2Wire router

Welcome to the forum djbeede.

You appear to be connected both wired and wirelessly here, valid IP for both connections, the ipconfig/all would show me more than just ipconfig. You should unplug the Ethernet when testing the wireless as an Ethernet connection will override a wireless connection most every time.

Do you have any type of third party anti virus software installed on this system?

Have you tried resetting the router using the actual reset button on the side of the router?

Hi guys

I have a Dell Inspiron, 4gb, 64bit. Windows Vista, home premium.

First issue;
The system would freeze and flash and turn off at the slightest flick, such as a slight tap on the keyboard.

Second issue;
I took it apart for a clean, and thermal paste renewal, once I put it all together, I tested it and still the exact same, but now it's developed a NEW problem...I ran it all night without an issue, the next morning I turned it on and there was a problem... The screen wouldn't turn on, no back lights, not even the slightest suggestion the screen was on. Completely dead.

I took the power button section out, turned it on, worked perfectly, put it back on, back to square one.

Then I removed the keyboard plastic surrounding, and it worked fine, then put it all back together and same problem...

It's completely free from any virus. The laptop is using a 65w charger when it should be using a 90w charger, (not my laptop).

I've received the follow message a few times; "timer chip counter 2 failed" Explanations?

The screen is my main issue at the moment, it's on with no pressure, then off with pressure.

Thanks for your time

hi, I have a problem with my Dell Studio Xps 1640 laptop and its hard drive disk which is Toshiba mk5061gysn. 3 days ago the lcd turn blue and after that when I started win7 at the first instance everything seems fine but when I wanted to do something everything just freeze. I decided to install win7 again but when I reached the step of choosing hdd partitions, there wasn't any and I faced with this error "no drivers were found. click load driver to...". Afterward I downloaded some mass storage drivers and then click load drivers but none of the drivers match the hdd ,if the system could actually detect an hdd device, and that's it. Please help me through this.

It appears to come with a Seagate hard drive and not a Toshiba hard drive.

Help, my mobo won't detect a new hard drive i'm trying to install (as master). The hard drive is a Maxtor Fireball 3, i'm not sure what the mobo is but it's for the Celeron 1.3Ghz (tualatin core) processor.

I know the hard drive is fine. I tried it on my other computer and it worked perfectly.

My motherboard detects the floppy drive and cd-rom, but not the hard drive.

The jumpers on the hard drive are correct. Set to master.

The cables are working I tried and tested them.

I don't know what to do. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Answer:Mobo won't detect hard drive

there are a number of possibilities:
maybe your IDE controller is not working
maybe you are using an 80 pin drive and your motheroard only suppports 40 pin

does the computer work with other hard drives?

Answer:Setup won't detect hard drive?

Hi!! Darhhearted.

I thing that you are having Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. If you are trying to install windows XP above it it will not install.

For this you have to format the Hard drive first with some external software but it will cause to lost all your data. So to take precautions backup all the data first on external hard drive.

I have an old toshiba portege 7020ct, 40gb hdd, running xp home. My hdd is going up the spout so I bought a new 2.5" 40gb hdd and a usb2 hdd enclosure. All I want to do is use xxclone to clone the new hdd so I can then install it in the laptop, because I haven't got a windows disk it just came pre-installed on the laptop. The trouble is that the laptop doesn't detect the new hdd. I have a usb2 pcmcia card plugged in as the laptop only has usb1. The card is working as I plugged a 250gb external hdd in and transferred all the stuff I want to keep. When I plug it into usb1 port it just comes up power surge in port, so it's detecting something. Hubby plugged the new hdd in the usb enclosure into our desktop pc and it detected it straight away and he formatted the new drive to ntfs. I then tried plugging into laptop and it still isn't detecting it. Any help greatly appreciated as my laptop keeps getting blue screen of death as my hdd is dying a slow death and it takes ages to get it running again.

Answer:Laptop won't detect usb hard drive

Take the hard drive out of the laptop and place it in the USB enclosure. Connect the enclosure to the desktop system and save the files from the laptop hard drive to the desktop

He guys,

Im having problems with adding new harddrive's.Because that causes the old ones to not get detected anymore.

this problem happend to me twice when i tried to add a secondary hard drive , first time it happend it tought, i had destroyed a new hard drive (wich was a samsung spinpoint f3 500gb)

both hard drives i got are sata, so i just connect them with 2 sata cables to the motherboard (wich is a asrock p55 pro) and afcourse 2 power supply cables to te drives. from here its al good.

but here's where it go's wrong. after adding the empty new drive to the pc and starting it up, it only finds the new 1 and the old 1 with windows 7 on it is just gone all of a sudden. so i had to install windows 7 on the new 1 rebooted.... and got into windows and still no sign of the old drive wich all my programms were on.

so next thing i tried was to just get the new 1 out and boot the pc with only the old 1 in. this didnt help i just got a black screen asking me to insert boot device.

this is really driving me crazy since it costed me 2 hard drives already :/ and i dont know what's the problem , i only know that the hard drives aint broken.

i hope you guys know wat the problem could be , i've been googling my *** off but didnt find any problems such as this 1.

Answer:Can't detect hard drive after adding a second one

Connect the two hard drives SATA and power connectors... Connect the SATA connectors to the motherboard, and then turn on your PC and head into BIOS.

Navigate to the hard drives section, and then confirm under the SATA headings that both hard drives are reading correctly.

Then In BIOS, check the boot order. Decide which hard drive you want as priority ( I recommend your old install as its current) and set boot order up in the following order:

1. Removable media (USB memory sticks etc)
2. Optical drive (DVD or DVD R/W)
3. Your first hard disc (whichever one you decided should boot windows)

Finally, check the hard disks are set to AHCI (I think its that) not IDE.

Save settings, and exit BIOS. the PC should then reboot and start into your windows installation on your hard drive with highest priority as set my BIOS.

If that doesn't work, then firstly let us know whether the hard drives are listed in BIOS.

My Antec Neo480 p/s quit working the other day and i bought an Antec Neo550 to replace it. Everything went smoothly with the swap but when i turn it on it won't find my boot drive. It states something like no boot drive detected insert boot cd, etc.. I have 2 WD 80g sata drives in raid 0. I quadruple checked all connections, then i unhooked everything and just hooked up the raid drives and vid card power, still the same thing. I also tried disconnected the sata power cables from the drives and hooking in molex power cables, nothing. Also tried other sata power cables aswell. I can't figure out why this is happening with just a P/S swap. Do i need to change something in the bios? Do i need to stick in my spare 80g ide drive and install windows on it, then replug in my satas and see if they'll be detected? Could the new P/S be causing this, it seems to be working properly though? I'm really outta ideas. I'm guessing its something to do with the boot drive being raid, but i've had this setup runing great for a couple years now and all i did was swap P/S.

I went into bios and all the settings are the same as i had them. On the main bios screen it shows all the ide master, ide secondary, sata master, etc... There all disabled, which i think is correct since the only thing i have plugged in atm is the 2 sata raid drives. On the boot priority tab i have 1.hard disk, 2.cdrom, 3.removable, 4. disabled. The only other selectable option is legacy lan. I tr... Read more

Answer:Can't detect hard drive after P/S swap

Remove the "non detected" drive and use another drive as the C drive just for test purposes. If this other drive is detected, your old C drive may be bad. We can discuss saving data later

I need some serious help here. I'm begging.

My buddy has a Dell XPS Generation 2. He customized his order on the website and has been gaming on it for the past year or whenever Gen 2 came out. Anyway, I just got off a three hour phone call with him trying to help him do what should be a fairly simple wipe and reload. He managed to aquire a number of viruses and his system keeps rebooting. It's pretty vicious.

However, when we boot from the CD and try to run XP setup, it says it can't detect an installed HDD. Which is odd because it'll boot to Windows if we don't boot off the CD.

I don't know if my Google Fu is weak, but I couldn't find a solution. I caught some allusions to him needing to press F6 and install the SATA drivers somehow, but his driver disks don't have any SATA or RAID drivers on them and I don't know how to find the correct driver for him online. This would be easy if he wasn't clear across the continent from me, but, sadly, that's not the case.

So, how can we get Windows Setup to detect his Hard Drive so we can run a format and get him a fresh install?

Any help here will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My personal system and various other computers Can't detect my "BUFFALO" 3.0 TB "SATA" External Hard Drive And Backup? I'm attempting to recover all my files. Apparently my Hard Drive Malfunctioned? I read; " "If your system is unable to detect the hard drive then the issue could be the result of disk controller failure. This would categorize under physical data loss. " I installed a "Data Recovery" program with hopes, to recover all my files from this faulty "Hard Drive" however, there is no visible drive to run a scan on? Can someone explain to me how I can successfully recover all my files by physically removing the External Shell in order that I could fix the "Disk Controller?, Attach the "Hard Drive" to a Hard Drive Docking Station, or USB 3.0 to SATA or IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter.

I would appreciate some knowledge on this issue.

Answer:System can not detect hard drive

If the drive controller on the disk has failed NOTHING (short of a DATA recovery company) can help you.
You just might possibly be lucky if you replace the controller card, but even that is unlikely to help as the sector mapping and such are held on the card.

On my old secondary computer my setup was

Motherboard: Chaintech VNF2-350
Master 0: HDS722516VLAT80 with Windows XP SP3
Slave 0: WD800BB-53CCB0

But then I started getting Machine Check Exceptions and my motherboard ultimately perished. So I replaced that with a Foxconn K8S755A-6ELRS. But this new motherboard won't detect the hard drive.

It will hang at the part that says "Detecting IDE drives", sometimes it will give up and display "0" where the drive is supposed to be, other times it will hang until you unplug the cable.

If it's on the same channel as the Hitachi drive with XP on it, the BIOS recognizes the other drive, but fails to boot from it.

If they are on different channels, it boots the XP drive but will see no hint of the drive on the other channel., even in Disk Management or Device Manager.

I also tried connecting it to my other computer's Intel DP35DP mobo, and it was able to detect/read/write and all that, though it does have a few bad sectors.

Any help?

I inherited an older computer w/ Win2k on it and I want to upgrade to XP. The problem is that when I run the XP cd I get the message:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardwar configuration is correct. This may involve running a manuafacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
The computer loads Windows and everything, but I opened the case anyway just to check and verified that there is in fact a hard drive. I also jiggled the cables in case that was the problem.

I still can't install XP, and it's still not recognizing the drive. I read a few other threads that suggested running CHKDSK thru the Recovery Console (which didn't work, I just got the same screen), or adjusting the BIOS. I'm not sure what to adjust in the BIOS, but I couldn't find the drive in there at all. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:XP setup does not detect hard drive

First, I doubt that the drive is SATA seeing as it has Win2k on it, but if it IS SATA, you may need to install SATA drivers when the XP install begins (by pressing "F6" at startup). Guessing that it's not a SATA drive, check all BIOS settings, just to make sure that there's not some strange RAID emulation settings on that's preventing XP from seeing the drive. Obviously the drive is functional if you can boot to 2K, so that tells us that the problem is coming from an incompatibility or lacking driver of some sort.
