Cannot activate windows 7 product key

Question: Cannot activate windows 7 product key

When I call, they just give me a "new" toll free number to call, which is the SAME number I just called. This is a valid product key from an HP compaq purchased from a reputable retailer. The hard drive went bad, replaced the hard drive, and now the key won't work. C'mon Microsoft!!!! Also, when I create a Window Live ID account to sign in and ask questions, it won't activate/verify, even though I check the email and click the verification link. I have just about had it with this BS! One more round of this and I am buying Apple for the rest of my life. Below is the diagnostic from Microsoft on the system... or at the very least, I will only deal with Dell, who has a built-in activation system based on the hardware from the manufacturer.Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):-----------------------------------------Windows Validation Data-->Validation Code: 0Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc004f012Windows Product Key: *****-*****-73CQT-WMF7J-3Q6C9Windows Product Key Hash: KaFG+RmurcM3ZxzWyfEP9WtPUJw=Windows Product ID: Windows Product ID Type: 2Windows License Type: OEM SLPWindows OS version: 6.1.7600.2.00010300.0.0.003ID: {7D255234-8ECA-4FAC-95AF-3FF382BEDA2F}(1)Is Admin: YesTestCab: 0x0LegitcheckControl ActiveX: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Product Name: Windows 7 Home PremiumArchitecture: 0x00000009Build lab: 7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621TTS Error: Validation Diagnostic: Resolution Status: N/AVista WgaER Data-->ThreatID(s): N/A, hr = 0x80070002Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Windows XP Notifications Data-->Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002File Exists: NoVersion: N/A, hr = 0x80070002WgaTray.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002WgaLogon.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002OGA Notifications Data-->Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002OGAExec.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002OGAAddin.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002OGA Data-->Office Status: 109 N/AOGA Version: N/A, 0x80070002Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3Browser Data-->Proxy settings: N/AUser Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Win32)Default Browser: C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeDownload signed ActiveX controls: PromptDownload unsigned ActiveX controls: DisabledRun ActiveX controls and plug-ins: AllowedInitialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: DisabledAllow scripting of Internet Explorer Webbrowser control: DisabledActive scripting: AllowedScript ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting: AllowedFile Scan Data-->File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\wat\watadminsvc.exe[Hr = 0x80070003]File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\wat\npwatweb.dll[Hr = 0x80070003]File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\wat\watux.exe[Hr = 0x80070003]File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\wat\watweb.dll[Hr = 0x80070003]Other data-->Office Details: <GenuineResults><MachineData><UGUID>{7D255234-8ECA-4FAC-95AF-3FF382BEDA2F}</UGUID><Version>1.9.0027.0</Version><OS>6.1.7600.2.00010300.0.0.003</OS><Architecture>x64</Architecture><PKey>*****-*****-*****-*****-3Q6C9</PKey><PID></PID><PIDType>2</PIDType><SID>S-1-5-21-44106799-660698116-3480986339</SID><SYSTEM><Manufacturer>Hewlett-Packard</Manufacturer><Model>Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC</Model></SYSTEM><BIOS><Manufacturer>Hewlett-Packard</Manufacturer><Version>F.61</Version><SMBIOSVersion major="2" minor="4"/><Date>20091119000000.000000+000</Date></BIOS><HWID>7EBB3607018400F8</HWID><UserLCID>0409</UserLCID><SystemLCID>0409</SystemLCID><TimeZone>Pacific Standard Time(GMT-08:00)</TimeZone><iJoin>0</iJoin><SBID><stat>3</stat><msppid></msppid><name></name><model></model></SBID><OEM><OEMID>HPQOEM</OEMID><OEMTableID>SLIC-MPC</OEMTableID></OEM><GANotification/></MachineData><Software><Office><Result>109</Result><Products/><Applications/></Office></Software></GenuineResults> Spsys.log Content: 0x80070002Licensing Data-->Software licensing service version: 6.1.7600.16385Name: Windows(R) 7, HomePremium editionDescription: Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, OEM_SLP channelActivation ID: d2c04e90-c3dd-4260-b0f3-f845f5d27d64Application ID: 55c92734-d682-4d71-983e-d6ec3f16059fExtended PID: 00359-00178-926-800010-02-1033-7600.0000-0582011Installation ID: 014685027646160160951466588745998802989353923815937734Processor Certificate URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin...Machine Certificate URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin...Use License URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin...Product Key Certificate URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin...Partial Product Key: 3Q6C9License Status: Initial grace periodTime remaining: 42840 minute(s) (29 day(s))Remaining Windows rearm count: 3Trusted time: 2/27/2011 2:33:57 AMWindows Activation Technologies-->HrOffline: 0x00000000HrOnline: N/AHealthStatus: 0x0000000000000000Event Time Stamp: N/AActiveX: Not Registered - 0x80040154Admin Service: Not Registered - 0x80040154HealthStatus Bitmask Output:HWID Data-->HWID Hash Current: MAAAAAEAAgABAAIAAAABAAAAAgABAAEAJJTQTCiMen9CrVSfdmmeRnIS6qKeZla4OEM Activation 1.0 Data-->N/AOEM Activation 2.0 Data-->BIOS valid for OA 2.0: yesWindows marker version: 0x20001OEMID and OEMTableID Consistent: yesBIOS Information: ACPI Table Name OEMID Value OEMTableID Value APIC INSYDE FACP HPQOEM SLIC-MPC HPET INSYDE SLIC-MPC BOOT INSYDE INSYDE MCFG INSYDE ASF! Preferred Solution: Cannot activate windows 7 product key

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Cannot activate windows 7 product key

How did you reinstall? To use the original key you need to use a recovery DVD from HP to reinstall (not a retail DVD) or (better) a recovery DVD you may have made when the computer was new (I think it install as activated then, but not sure). If under warranty, especially if HP replaced the hard drive, they should give you support, a recovery DVD, and if needed, a working key. MS policy is that OEM installs are supported by the company they sold it to.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi @Load, welcome to the forums!

If you don't have the 8.1 product key, you're going to have to fully perform the upgrade.

My two laptops were linked to a homegroup for data transfer. One had been upgraded from Windows 7 to 8.1. The other had Windows 7 pre-installed. After the transfer, I found that the Windows 7 had also been upgraded to Windows 8.1. The second laptop now
is constantly asking me to activate the Windows 8.1. It will not accept the pre-installed product key - and it will not allow me to go back to Windows 7. Any advice?

My Toshiba Satellite laptop recently suffer an impact which rendered the hard drive unusable/inaccessible. The hard drive has since been replaced and the laptop is once again operational. I now have the 30 day trial version of Windows 7 installed. I would like to gain a copy of my access key to unlock the full version of Windows 7 which I have already paid for when I purchased the laptop.

There is no product key to be found anywhere on the laptop and it isn't in the laptop box which it came in either. I have now been informed that the product key can be accessed from the hard drive but since the data on my hard drive is completely inaccessible that is not an option. Can someone please advise me on how I can get a replacement product key from Toshiba.

I'm pretty frustrated that I wasn't given a hard copy of the product key along with the laptop.

Thanks

Answer:How to activate Windows using my product key?

Unfortunately al this doesn?t work on this way. When you buy new notebook the price includes preinstalled OS and one valid license but for preinstalled version only.

With other words: you will not get some kind of own key that you can use with any other preinstalled Windows version. When you use original OS it will be activated. You can install it 1000 times and it will be activated any time.

So, if you want to use original Microsoft installation disc you must buy valid license for this. Many people think the same as you but unfortunately Microsoft create the rules about license usage and how it works with OS activation.

Answer:product key to activate windows 8

Is this a OEM PC? If so there should be a Windows sticker with a product code.

Otherwise look on your Windows CD or packaging.

Hi,

I currently have an issue with activating Windows 8.1. I bought a Samsung series 7 chronos NP780 last November that came with Windows 8 installed already. I upgraded to 8.1 a few days ago and left it overnight to complete. Everything went fine up until I had to activate it. It says that the product key is incorrect and to enter a different one. I have looked at the box that the laptop came in, the manuals in it and on the laptop itself and there is no product key to be found. One or two of the manuals/booklets might be missing but I'm fairly sure that the product key is within the BIOS so should it not recognise the product key itself automatically and complete the upgrade without asking me for the key? I ran belarc to can by laptop and at the section where the product key should be it says "Key: None activated". I also ran keyfinder and the key it gave me back didnt work (although the end of it seems to match the end of the one that is listed as the "current product key".

I have rang Samsung, the store that I bought it from and Microsoft and they have all been telling me to go to the other about it and its very frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Can't activate Windows 8.1 due to product key issue

Anybody? I'm really stuck here.

I own a product called a Studioblade by Music Computing.  I had a serious system crash and had to restore system from scratch.  The manufacturer provided me the original Win 7 Pro key for this unit.  However, during the restore I had purchased
and installed Windows 7 Home Premium edition just to get the system back up prior to receiving the original manufacturer's OS install.  Now, I cannot activate the original Win7 Pro after performing a fresh install.  Can't get Microsoft to activate
without paying for support.  I need help on what to do and who to contact.  Thanks in advance.

The full error is "The product key you typed cannot be used to activate Windows on this computer" but it wouldn't fit in the title. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and when trying to acticate it I get this error. I get the same thing when trying to activate by phone. I bought this from Microsoft, so I know it is genuine. I used Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic tool (1.9.0027.0) to evaluate my system. This is what it gave me:

Hi, before I signed up I scouted this site and others for answers as this is a question which has came up often, I've gone through the steps to the same position.

I bought a Windows 7 ISO/Product Key from this site https://softwaregeeks.co.uk. They have good ratings so I thought "This isn't some rip off like the last Windows I got from Ebay". I did the installation with their ISO Windows 7 Professional OEM. They sent me a code which doesn't work, I've tried emailing them to no avail.

I know that the letter N doesn't work when typing an activation code yet I got one in my key they sent. The 2nd line of the key is NB8H3 the rest do work.

It's so exasperating after the counterfeit ebay Windows 7 I got the last time.

here's the code, the end product key here is completely different to the one I bought:

I recently made the jump from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 using the update tool that installed 10 over 8. I was having some driver issues (mouse clicking on its own) and had a bunch of programs I hadn't touched in months so I opted to do a clean install of Windows 10. Following the clean install, I receive the activation error 0xC004C003 "The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked." Is there any way to activate my copy of Windows 10? MS directed me to contact the manufacturer claiming that my OEM had for whatever reason blocked my product key. My computer came with a genuine version of Windows 8 preinstalled and I can provide any information, such as my serial number. Thank you.

Answer:Windows 10 Won't Activate; MS Claims OEM Blocked Product Key

Hi, Wait 24 hours and if it doesn't activate then contact Microsoft. You might need to reload W8, update to 8.1 then do a W10 in place upgrade.  Use ShowKey.vbs to extract the W10 license key. Then you should be able to do a clean installation.

I tried to update to Windows 10 on my brand new T450s. However, I did that from a USB stick I had used on my other computers. So I wiped the Windows 7 portion of the drive directly, without the the Product activation key to be upgraded. My problem now is either to fix so I can activate Windows 10 or downgrade. I've tried both without any success. I can't get the Lenovo Recovery portion of my hard drive to downgrade me back to Windows 7 or 8.1. I can't press F11, I can't mount from it and I can't run any software from Lenovo either to access it in Windows 10. I would really preciate some help and suggestions! Thank you

If when you try to activate your Windows, you receive the following message, The product key you typed cannot be used to activate Windows on this computer, then try the following:
1] Confirm that your product key has been bought from a genuine reseller or source
2] Check if you are using the correct key (Retail / OEM / Volume / etc) for your Windows.
3] Check if the key is meant for that particular Windows edition. (Ultimate / Pro / Home / etc)
4] To analyze and solve problems with Activations and Validation, run the MGADiag or Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.
5] This post may help you Troubleshoot Windows Activation States.

First, I am not sure which series of laptop I have to know if I am even posting to the correct board here. I used a .vbs file to extract the windows 7 product key from my acer and thought it would be fine to use when I reinstalled  windows 7 premium but after the install it rejected the product key. When I contacted Microsoft they said it was an OEM SLP situation and that I would have to get the product key unlocked from the manufacturer which is Acer, or do they mean the retailer who sold the laptop, then I would likely have to provide proof of purchase.Something tells me this whole idea is so that they can try to bill me to unlock the code so that I can activate the new Windows installation. I see on the support site that they mention purchasing recovery media. Thats kind of sleazy to do to customers who bought a laptop with windows installed. So my question is how do I get my accurate product key to be able to activate my windows 7 re-install. I tried Magical Jellybean and it gives me the same product key which fails activation. What can I do to salvage this Acer laptop that works fine but simply needs Windows activated. I shouldnt have to buy another copy of Windows for it. There must be a solution that does not involve spending more money.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for. I purchased a "genuine" copy of Vista with case, documentation and valid product key, I verified it with "Magic Jelly Bean" on-line. However, Windows won't activate because the product key is already in use. I've tried looking on-line for product keys but none of them work.

Could some direct me to a sight to find a working key or should I just toss the disk and chalk it up to experience.

Cheers

Mike

I have a Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate trial which is about to run out. I have been receiving all the Windows updates as per normal so its a fully functional version of Windows. I have now purchased the official Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate dvd from a computer supplier, but to save cash I have purchased the OEM version. My questions is simply whether I will be able to use this OEM product key to activate my windows 7 trial as both are 64 bit Ultimate. The version currently running is a vanilla Win 7 64 bit trial, not an OEM version. This is urgent as I have 4 days left of my trial and I am concerned if I open the packaging of the OEM DVD and it does not work then I will not be able to return it as the packaging will be opened. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Activate Windows 7 Trial with purchased OEM Product Key

if there was another operating system on the computer before you installed the ultimate trial then you are not eligible for oem. win7 oem is only for a newly built computer that never had an operating system installed.

Answer:unlock windows 7 premium product key to activate w...

You have at least one and maybe two ways you can go here. The first way is SLP. There is validation info inside your BIOS. It may only be there if the laptop shipped from the factory with Win7 installed. For sure it will not be there if the laptop shipped with Vista or XP, another format of info will be there in that case. But let's assume it was shipped with Win7 and has a Win7 COA on the bottom of the laptop or maybe under the battery. To reinstall this system the SLP way you need a disc from Acer to do the reinstall. I believe that if you get a system restore disc from Acer (they sell them) that you will end up with an image of the HDD the way that it shipped from the factory. That's not exactly a clean install, but it is somewhat close. I am not sure if Acer will sell you a reinstall disc, but maybe ... ask them. If you reinstall/restore from an Acer disc you will not have to enter a key as the validation is through the BIOS. Just look after the install is done and you have rebooted and in Control Panel / System it will show as validated. For sure Acer will charge to ship you a disc. From their point of view they shipped the laptop with a restore partition. They're going to expect you to use that. It is work for them to ship a disc ... they WILL charge you $. See the info at Wikipedia for more on SLP. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Locked_Pre-installation A second possible way is non-SLP. This worked for me the one time I installed Wi... Read more

Hello,

This is the current situation:

We have here various of computers running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. On one PC Windows runs inside a VirtualBox on a FreeBSD machine.

My boss wants me to replace that FreeBSD with the Windows that runs inside the VM as the main OS.

My problem is, that it is not documented which installation belongs to which product-key.

Also I have *no* access to the FreeBSD machine. (Physically yes, the machine is right in front of me, but no access to the OS to boot the VM)

To avoid that I accidentally activate Windows with any product-key than the one used in the VM, I am wondering how to figure out which product-key was used?

I thought the 'product-id' in 'system properties' was the 'product-key' and I can go through a list, but it seems to be something different.

Best regards from germany

Answer:Figure out which product-key was used to activate Windows 7 Ultimate

Hallo Foobarbazqux, herzlich willkommen auf der Sieben Foren .

If you could manage to get the Windows vm running on that FreeBSD machine, it would be very easy. Simply open an elevated command prompt and give command slmgr /dlv to open licencing information, check the partial product key and compare to your existing product keys.
Attachment 303694If this is not possible, it's a bit more complicated: you could use the same method on all other Windows 7 machines, until you only have one product key not used by these machines. The remaining product key on your list should be the one you are looking for.

Hello, I am new here and was wondering if someone could help me. I dont think I am going to like the answers I might get but I am praying that there is something I missed and all hope is not lost.

I am the administrator here at work for a small company only 8 computers. One of the secretary's came in this morning as usual started her desktop computer up as she has for the last 2 years. At the log in screen a notification popped up telling her she needed to activate windows before proceeding. She called me in I was puzzled but went ahead with the activation process because I couldnt log in at all under safe mode etc. It told me that auto log in was not possible I had to call them. I did, they had to give me another product activation code to reactivate my product. It all went fine until the computer booted. Everything from purchase date in 2009 to this morning was gone!! There was no reformat of any type just a new activation. I tried system restore but the only options are todays activity after the new activation and december 2009!!

Does anybody have any idea what the heck went wrong in the first place and why microsoft didnt tell me that a new activation would revert my data back 2 years? And lastly is there a way to get any of these documents back? How can they just be gone in that short of time? Outlook was upgraded from 2000 to 2007 and that too is gone.

Thanks in advance

Joe.

Answer:Windows suddenly asked me to re-activate its product.

Firstly, activation didn't revert anything, something happened which was the subsequent cause for seeming data disappearance and the need for activation. What that something was I have no idea but, are these company computers all independent or do some or all connect to a server or at least a NAS? If so, the data is probably there and only the network links to that data was lost in whatever happened to cause reactivation.
If the computer was not networked to a server or NAS, and nothing nefarious could possibly have occured, then I think some serious corruption of the system must have occured and Windows didn't do such a good job of recovering from it. Is it still the same exact account or is it a new profile that was loaded? Have you checked Documents and Settings for more accounts that might have been created or cast aside?
There must be a forensics trail there and if you can't make head or tails out of it and its very important data that isn't available elsewhere the proper procedure would be to stop using that computer yesterday and call in an expert.

Hello Sevenforums I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong area. Im having major issues re activating windows after a massive hardware upgrade. My copy of windows is genuine it was a retail upgrade from windows vista and I did the validation over 1 year ago. (Still have the box CD code etc.) It keeps telling me to activate windows 27 days remaining. Which Ive tried to do. It rejects my code Ive tried all known methods of activation. I've contacted support at Microsoft and got no help, the guy on the phone I could barely understand. I would be over the moon if somebody could give me a solution.

basic facts.

1.Only done 1 fresh re-install and 1 full backup of windows over the lifespan of the product key.
2.This was an upgrade copy designed for windows vista purchased from one of the largest retail stores in New Zealand.
3.My hardware is now completely new bar the hardrive, DVD writer & chassis.
4.All hardware has been installed correctly and has been burnt in

I can't see any problems with the report - you probably simply need to use telephone activation.

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

this M93Z system shipped with windows 8 pre-installed but it appears to be missing a license key.  most of the online resources i've found suggest that all lenovo PCs have a label with the product key printed on it, but mine (and others) have no windows label anywhere on the PC or accompanying documentation. here is the exact message from Windows:"This product key is already being used on another PC.  Try a different key or buy a new one." can anyone suggest how to resolve?  i followed up with the supplier, lenovo.ie / Digital River who referred me to the global lenovo support site.  i signed up there for a new technical support ticket, who referred me on to some IBM portal and i set up an IBM profile, and was then kindly told that they only provide technical support for hardware problems...   Any computer science student looking to understand recursion could simply try and complete a technical support loop with a large multinational

Answer:new M93Z, Windows 8 won't activate, says product key is duplicate

Hello.

Windows 8 product keys are never printed on OEM stickers, they are embedded in your BIOS. If you want to find your product key, you can use this program here: ProduKey v1.67

I have seen this problem on Windows 8 computers many times, and as annoying as it is, it is easily rectified by using the automated phone system to activate it if your key fails to activate through the internet. It's a simple automated process and shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes.

Hi Everyone,  I just swapped out the hard drive in my ThinkPad T510 and replaced it with a zippy SSD.I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 thinking I have my Windows 7 COA (clearly visible under my battery). But I was unable to activate Windows 10. I called Microsoft and they said yes, I have a geniune copy of Windows 7 BUT that the OEM (Lenovo) was blocking the activation. I called Lenovo and they said it's a Microsoft issue. I called Lenovo again and they said I needed to pay $45 for recovery discs because my "real" Windows 7 code was secreted in a system board, and once I retrieved that, I would have to install Windows 7 on my new SSD, then upgrade to Windows 10 and the activation would take. Um, really? Isn't there an easier (and cheaper) way to accomplish this? Again, my Windows 7 COA is clearly visible under my battery but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? And can anyone out there make it right? Thank you so much!

Hi there,

I have a Gateway DX-4822 that I bought in 2010. I am planning to build a custom pc and will probably be switching from Intel to AMD.

I have read that OEM License keys are linked to motherboards and can't be used on a new rig, but some people have mentioned that it's possible to call Microsoft during installation and lie about the situation to get Windows activated on new computer.

These threads are 1-2 years old, so I was just wondering if this is still a possibility? Will save me over $100.

Further, I know this is not the thread for this but I am planning to get AMD FX-6300 along with ASRock 970M PRO3 motherboard. Do you think I can use my old computer case?

Answer:Can I use OEM Windows 7 Product Key to activate Windows on BRAND NewPC

No- it's definitely not legal to do what you propose in terms of licensing. (which is not to say that it won't work sometimes)

You will need to restore 7 first then upgrade.
For the free 10, your previous version key will not work. It gets converted to a cloud authentication upon upgrade.

I'm new to the forum, haven't really posted since I joined in 2012 so not sure where to post this, but this seemed to be the most logical place to post it.

Recently a friends laptop, which was given to me to fix, had 46 viruses which corrupted Windows and the recovery partition on a HP Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop. I proceeded to re-install windows with what I assumed to be the correct recovery discs for the laptop, it turned out they weren't. I was on Microsoft support for an hour and they that the product key which I have (recovered using a product key recovering software) was an OEM-SLP license, which I didn't know at the time of using the product key recovery software, and that HP support was the only option.

After spending a further hour on HP support they also proceeded to tell me that they would not help because the laptop is out of warranty and I would either have to pay for a technician to come out, roughly ?150 pounds, or buy new recovery discs, ?40, neither option my friend can afford.

Unfortunately she gave me the discs for her old HP laptop and no longer has the recovery discs for her newer laptop. The product key, the COA one on the bottom of the laptop, is rubbed off and you cannot make out what any of it says. Is there any other option to try to activate Windows or do I have to buy a new product key or recovery discs?. There *may* be an alternative solution though, if you are patient and persistent.
Attempt Telephone Activation, and speak to an operator - they will tell you that your current Key is blocked (they should then ask for confirmation of your Product Key). Explain to them your problem, that you need to change the Key to the one on your sticker, but that the sticker is unreadable (could they please supply a replacement Key?). Hopefully they will ask for documentary proof of the sticker, in the form of an email with a picture of the affected sticker - and you can proceed from there.

I just spent the last three hours on the phone. I was transferred 5 times and no one could help me. I want to rage beyond words right now.

So here is the problem...

I have a legitimate copy of Windows 7 ultimate. (that I bought in 2010 from my college.)

When windows 10 came out I made a mistake and did a CLEAN install not knowing the idiotic rule of not being able to validate the old windows 7 key. (validation only works if I did a windows 7 to 10 upgrade FOR SOME STUPID REASON.)

Now I am stuck in windows 10. My windows 7 key will not validate to re download windows 7 in order to UPGRADE to windows 10.

I have the disc of windows 7 but I do not have a CD rom. (so I will need to do a USB install)

When I call Microsoft they check my key (to ensure it is valid) they say everything is fine with it, but like I said I cannot use it.

I have not given this key to ANYONE. I also did not deactivate it before the windows 10 clean install.

When I attempt to download the windows 7 download and enter my key I get this response...

"Error
The product key you entered appears to be for software licensed through an Enterprise Agreement. Please contact the Volume Licensing Service Center for software recovery options or visit the Volume Licensing Home Page for more information on Enterprise

Whats First Big Update (Which Arrives Today)
I have read the above article. My understanding is that a user can clean-install and activate Windows 10 on a computer running Windows 7/8/8.1 that has never been upgraded to Windows 10 as long as the user has a valid Windows 7/8/8.1 product key.

However, someone (Mr. Zhai Jian) on a Chinese forum thinks that such a computer firstly has to be upgraded, getting a digital entitlement, and only after that can a clean installation be performed. He does not believe an OEM Windows 7/8/8.1 product key can be used to activate Windows 10.

Who is correct, Mr. Zhai Jian or I?

Answer:Can an OEM Windows 7/8/8.1 product key be used to activate Windows 10?

"I" is correct.

Mr. Zhai Jian does not understand how downlevel activation works - it's a separate channel that has been included in 1511 precisely to allow digital entitlement from a clean install without prior upgrade.

Answer:Canít activate OS with my product key

Hi,

Please realize that a OEM-key
(OEM ->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_equipment_manufacturer) on a machine where the recovery the original media is, which matches the product key on your machine, cannot be used with another Windows Vista disk.

Thats like you say: "I have lost my BMW 320 (supposing you had a BMW 320 for example) but I have a key for an BMW 320 and so the key must fit to every BMW 320 on the street which is similar to my model which means I should go theoretically to every BMW 320 and should be able to open the car and to drive it."

You will have to obtain a new recovery disk for your machine to get a running system on your machine back. You can do this by contacting an ASP in the country you currently are:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=ASP_SUPPORT

Activate Windows XP Right Away

If you have not activated Windows XP, you will be reminded each time you log in and at common intervals until the end of the activation grace period of 30 days. If you have not activated Windows XP within this timeframe, you will need to do so to continue using it.

If you choose to activate your product over the Internet, upon your submission the activation wizard will detect your Internet connection and connect to a secure server to transfer your installation ID to Microsoft. A confirmation ID is passed back to your computer, automatically activating Windows XP. This process normally takes just a few seconds to complete. No personally identifiable information is required to activate Windows XP.

To activate Windows XP over the telephone, you can simply call a toll-free* number displayed on your screen. A customer service representative will ask for the installation ID number displayed on the same screen, enter that number into a secure database, and return a confirmation ID to you. Once you have typed the confirmation ID, the activation process is complete.Click to expand...

Answer:Help Activate XP with authorized product key

You don't have a time limit to change your product key. The product key is entered when the OS is installed. You then have thirty days to activate. So why didn't you activate within the thirty days allowed. You will need to reinstall Windows, this time using a valid key and activate before the thirty days expires.Stuart

Answer:Unauthorized product key to activate win xp

Then you have a counterfeit copy of XP. Note that it is considered "shouting" and "bad manners" to post in upper case. Contact Microsoft for instructions on obtaining a genuine key for your copy.

Hello to all, I have moved from Australia to China for work. After one week in China I get a message to validate my Windows, so I did, boy I shouldn't have done that. I get a message that my copy is not valid for the region I'm in?
I contact Microsoft in Australia, tell them the problem,to cut a very long story short, because I'm now in China, I'm Geographically blocked, nice one Microsoft. I then go online and purchase a new XP Product Key, which I receive via email[i had to use my mothers address in Australia and thats where they will send the hard copy]
I follow the instructions to the letter on how to validate my new product key, this is where the fun begins.I download the tool, click run,it starts, then stops with this message..The system may be low on disk space Error 0x800402c9. I might add here I have some 35 gig of free space on my HD.I email the Microsoft Support team in Australia, they come back quickly I will say with some instructions, which I follow,1 Clean Boot, 2,Register Dll Files, then try and validate again, did all that, same message came up, so I email back, get new instructions which are,1Create Restore Point,2 Deactivate Windows and look for HKEY_LOCAL..al the way to \WPAEvents, where I right click OOBETimer, click modify, change at least one charater of this value and on, 3 Re-activate Windows, Start,RUN in the open box type %systemroot%system32\oobe\msoobe.exe/a which I do and click ok, well I get a message which states C:\WINDOWSsystem32\oobe refers ... You're missing one backslash. And you might need a space after the .exe and before the forward slash. So try this:
%systemroot% \system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

I installed a wind7 disk 29 days ago that I had to use product key for, when I put in number in it told me that it is invalid, so I went to key finder and they gave me a different number which turned out to be a default number. I didn't register or activate all program keys beforehand now it won't let me activate windows7. Anyway, being very uninformed in laptop tech I'm turning to any help I can get. thankyou in advance.

Answer:cannot activate win7 because of product key on this computer

Try activating by phone. If the automated phone activation does not work, talk to a Microsoft Rep and explain the problem. The Rep will help you activate Windows.

If you space out like I did and toss your Microsoft-issued product key for the official Windows 7 beta (Build 7000), then reinstall the original beta or one of the leaked, later versions only to realize that you need the product key to activate your new installation:

Don't Panic!

Just click here and Microsoft will retrieve your product key for you to activate your installation. (Requires log in to Windows Live.)

Answer:Retreiving Your Beta Product Key to Activate Reinstalls

My key is getting rejected. I have Build 7068 and installed premium version as clean install.
Though as RC1 may be close it probably does not matter. Fixed it by running the Anytime Upgrade and using the key for that.

Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me with this problem.
I bought a laptop with win 7 home premium 18 months ago. It was a genuine copy, installed by the manufacturer (SONY).
I decided to upgrade it to win7 pro 64bit by using an anytime upgrade key which I bought on ebay.
The upgrade went well. The OS is now win 7 pro 64bit. That was about a year ago. IN the interim, I have not used the laptop. When I used it again last week, the screen is black and it says "this copy of windows is not genuine"
It asks me to activate it. I tried the phone activation but it failed.
I presume the upgrade key from ebay was no good.

As the laptop has a number of apps installed, I would like to avoid having to re-install everything if at all possible.

So my question is this: can I purchase a new copy of windows7 pro 64bit and use the product key that comes with it to activate the non-genuine copy that is already on the laptop?
If so, do I need to purchase a RETAIL version or would an OEM version work too?

I have read various threads that seem to say that since I did the original upgrade a long time ago I can no longer activate with a good key and that I have to re-install the OS from scratch. Is this true?

Thanks for any help.
Fred

Answer:Win7 Pro 64bit not genuine. Can I use new product key to activate?

Hi,

Lets double check the existing key just to be sure its the problem:

1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. Run the tool, and then click 'Copy' - ignore any errors if they appear

3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the validation tool here in your next reply.

As long as the installation media you used is not "dodgy" simply activating using the new key will work just fine. This is how you do it:

I just did a clean install of windows seven using my OEM disk purchased a few years ago for this laptop. The sticker with the product key, has been damaged and I cannot read 6 characters. The laptop came from HP with vista, win7 was installed on a new hard drive using the same OEM disk. I am unable to activate windows 7. Is there any way to retrieve the activation code? or possibly a replacement? Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: Solved
I called Microsoft at 1800-642-7676 and explained the situation. They kindly generated a new key free of charge after approval from their supervisor.

Answer:Cant activate, Reinstall of win7, worn off product key

Hi,

Try to use a bright light and magnifying glass to decipher the letters. Do you still have the recovery disks for the laptop? If you do, you could try a recovery from that, and we can take it from there.

If you are unable to do that, then the only option left is purchase a retail version of Windows 7.

Hi,
I downloaded and installed office 2016, it is now asking me to activate it and a Product Key.
this is a beta so why do I need a beta key ? How do I activate Office 2016 ?
I own office 2010, I downloaded the office 2016 preview and it put office 2013 on, then I found how to put 2016 on ... now I only have a few days left of the trail before most of the features are disabled.... since this is a beta why would they be looking for a key ?

Answer:Office 2016 preview is asking me to activate/product key ?

Hi there

The old links had the product already activated -- the links were removed by Ms within a few hours. Currently you need to activate via an Office 365 subscription -- I don't have nor want one of those or even Office 2013. You could try an Office 2013 key though to see if it works.

There might be a *proper* public trial later.

Hi there

(@Mods -- wrong Section - please move to Windows activation)

If you have a load of old unused TechNet keys then doing a Clean install and entering any of these keys WON'T WORK.

You need unfortunately to install the product (W7/W8/W8.1), activate (those keys work) then DO THE UPGRADE and finally THEN do a clean install.

A bit of a bugbear -- howver tested this with a VM -- have a load of unused TechNet keys so it took a few "Goes" to get it to work.

Note - If you install W7/W8/W8.1 you need to ensure you get the latest updates (of THOSE OS'S) before attempting the update (to W10) process.

I think the Ms servers record the activation of those keys - If they haven't been used then the servers won't activate them on W10. Once activated then the keys are registered on the servers and W10 clean install works.

Cheers
jimbo

If you are using the downloaded media ISO, you do not need to apply any updates before upgrading. You only have to apply updates if you want to use Windows Update to upgrade.

After reformatting my laptop (Toshiba), it is saying my Windows is not genuine and it is counterfeit software. I cannot use any product key on the bottom of the laptop as there is no sticker with that information on my laptop. I contacted Microsoft they said they can't do anything and I should contact my manufacturer or store that I bought it from to see if they have an OEM copy of my product key. Is there any other way I can get my windows product key? I tried those programs that you can download to get your key but the key was unsuccessful in activating windows. Error message: 0xC004F063.

Sick of this problem. I know hundreds are having the same problem as I've seen in MANY posts online. Where do I start and can I fix the problem? The version of windows came with the computer. I did not purchase it separately. BUT I did use a different Windows Installation Disc that was my friend's to reformat the computer however I did not get a product key. What do I do????? Help! Pls!

Answer:Reformat laptopWindows ask to activate No product key Error 0xC004F063

The key you found was the key the factory uses to activate windows and is useless to you.

All computers sold with Windows 7 have a COA sticker, look in the battery compartment.

If you don`t have a COA, then your only option is to contact Toshiba for recovery discs or buy Windows 7 OEM.

This is an example of a site here in the US, you will have to find something in Australia.

Ok, upgrading firm laptops from Lenovo T420s running Win7 Pro to T450s.The T450s machines came with Win7 Pro, but we need to upgrade them to Win10 Pro.  The OS Product key is embedded in the BIOS on the T450s We've tried cloning the T420s drive to the T450s using multiple tools (EZGIG, Acronis, etc) and the drive clones successfully, but the OS will not activate on the T450s drive after the clone. Both old and new machines have SSD drives.Tried Win7 to Win7 clone, OS on T450s would not activateTried Win10 to Win10 clone, OS on T450s would not activate.  (Upgraded both machines to WIn10 and activated prior to cloning) What has Lenovo  and/or Miscroft done differently in the T450s that prevents me from cloning a user's old drive tothe new machine? What am I missing?  Have done this many times over the years and it's alwatys worked to perfection.

Answer:SSD cloned from T420s to T450s won't activate the embedded product key in T450s

Hello and welcome,

I wouldn't expect this to work although it seems that your experience has been different.

If the T450s was shipped with a Win 7 install not via downgrade rights there should be a key sticker somewhere.  If it was 7 via downgrade rights from 8.x Pro there's an 8 key in the BIOS and activation of 7 is going to be a pain.

Understanding downgrade rights

Try using the key from the 420s, letting it fail, and calling per the above strange instructions.

Not sure whether entering the old laptop's key will get you to the phone activation option on a clone as it would with a clean install.

Has Microsoft changed something in the latest April Windows Updates?
I create a default Windows 8 Enterprise VL image on my laptop in audit mode as I have always done previously.  Nothing has changed from my side.
When I install the image via WDS, everything installs fine.
When I use my WIM file to install via USB, it now comes up with:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
right after selecting the install language.
I have checked EI.cfg and it is normal:
[EditionID]
Enterprise
[Channel]
Volume
[VL]
1
I then tried adding PID.TXT with my Enterprise KMS key and, rather than error it then prompts me for a product key.
Surely using the VL install media it should never ask for a product key.  It never has before. (And I've never had to before)
I prepped the image as normal using:
C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:C:\Windows\win8unattend.xml
Any ideas?  I can't but help thinking something has changed in the latest batch of Windows Updates.  It's quite frustrating as not all my machines are capable of PXE, so I have to use USB.
The reason I think it is a recent change, is if I do a default install and DO NOT do any Windows Updates, it all works fine.  Only when I install the latest WU does it start doing this.

Answer:[NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

OK, So I've fixed it now, but I will still like to know WHY this has changed.

If i do this to my WIM, it then installs from USB:

imagex /flags "Enterprise" /info c:\temp\WIM\ME\install.wim "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86" "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86"

I wonder because I use the WDS capture image if this has somehow changed recently.
Very annoying, but now at least I can install my custom image :)

So short story, I work at a college tech site that fixes student and faculty computers. A foreign exchange student from Japan with a Sony Vaio (most likely from Japan as well) managed to get a virus on his computer and he was blocked off our network. Our policy is that we wipe and reinstall the OS to ensure that the virus is gone. However, we didn't have any Windows 7 Home Prem media CDs so I downloaded a Win7 Home Prem 32bit iso off of MSDN and burnt it to disk. However, when entering the product key given on the bottom of the laptop(and I've checked 3 times now to make sure it's correct), I get a:

"Product key does not match the current Windows SKU" error.

Why is this happening? Do I need a certain burnt iso (from Sony in Japan?) because of the laptop's foreign origins or is something else causing the problem here?

Answer:Product Key Does Not Match Current Windows SKU (Foreign product key?)

Yes, you need a Japanese iso, they have regional editions.

Windows OEM Product Key Tool will retrieve and display the Windows setup product key embedded in the BIOS or EFI, allowing you to store it for safe-keeping or use it to reinstall Windows with an official Windows setup image.
Nowadays computers shipping with Windows 10 no longer come with a Certificate of Authenticity attached to the back or bottom of the PC. Instead, PC manufacturers have worked with Microsoft to embed the product key directly into the BIOS or EFI. This is where the tool can help you.
Get it here. More software key finders here.

I will not question whether this is legal or illegal. This comes from Microsoft:

For non-corporate users there is this from my own experience: I have on occasion run into three or four customers who attempted what is known as casual piracy by installing his XP onto a second machine. I have had to get only one customer out of this mess (about two years ago or longer) but the workaround was easy. (By the time his grace period was up, he had installed many programs and didn't want to be forced to do it again.) We called Microsoft, gave them a credit card number and they worked us through some steps that fixed the problem.

We then rebooted and was asked for a valid key.

I do not remember the steps as it was quite some time back and I saw no reason to keep notes on it.

Microsoft asked no questions about why he attempted piracy. I think they are just happy to get the money.

I wanna dual boot Windows 8 Consumer Preview with my existing OS, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have created the necessary partitions and also created the bootable pendrive from the ISO downloaded.

When I begin the installation, everything goes fine until the Product Key screen comes up. I have tried 'NF32V-Q9P3W-7DR7Y-JGWRW-JFCK8' and 'DNJXJ-7XBW8-2378T-X22TX-BKG7J' but I get an error message saying 'We couldn't verify the product key. Check the installation media'
When I enter a random product key like '00000-00000-00000-00000-00000' it gives a message saying that the product key is wrong, but when I enter the correct product key I get the error message which I have put in bold statements above.

What shall I do? Please help.

But then I had to send my Netbook for service because the LCD remained black. With external monitor it worked fine... Anyhow; they exchanged the mainboard and now LCD is fine again. But my 3G connection does not work, because I cannot activate the transmission of the antenna.

Actual conditions / situation / observations:
1) Sierra Wireless Gobi 2000 - 3G card is present in the device manager, is activated and shown without any problems or restrictions.
2) I even can carry out the modem test successfully!
3) Under network connections the Sierra card is present but displayed with a red X. But I cannot activate it there.
4) In addition I can de-activate it there despite the already shown red X.
5) When I run the Toshiba Wireless manager shows that card is present but transmission is switched off. "Please switch on with FN+F8".... arrgh!!!

I tried already following steps:
1) installed all available and latest Sierra drivers Sierra 3G driver (v1.1.140; 05-03-2010; 37.58M)
2) made BIOS update to latest version 1.50 = Wireless connection switch is enabled = and WIFI works very well...
3) installed latest Toshiba Value Added Package (v1.3.6; 04-09-2010; 44.36M)
4) installed latest Toshiba Flash Cards... Read more

Answer:NB305-N410BN-G = FN+F8 can't activate 3G / but FN+F8 can activate WIFI

and I tried also following:

Hi, I'm new.

Right now, I'm really worried. I just bought Windows 7 Ultimate from Ebay, installed it and everything works fine. I tried the Product Key that came with it, but it said on the computer that it was blocked. That's ok, since it said on the page that it wouldn't work.

So I went to a website called Windows 7 Key Sale,Cheap Windows 7 Serial Key,Windows 7 Product Key Store!. as it was the first thing in google. I bought the Windows 7 product key, and I should get it soon.#

Bad Move.

I didn't realise I had service pack 1... it came with the Discs... FML.

Is there any way I can delete service pack 1 before the disk gets here so it will actually work? Thanks so much if you can help.

Microsoft has said that these keys won't work with SP1 windows.

Answer:Windows 7 Product Key, and SP1 Product Key.

A product key number will activate the Windows 7 with or without SP1 installed.

However, that 2nd site is a pretty questionable website, and would have my suspicions if that product key number was legit or not as well.

Getting your Windows 7 from places like these is quite risky. They have a high risk of being fake, illegal, and loaded with a virus to top it off. It's always best to get your copy of Windows 7 from a more legit retailer, or directly from Microsoft.

Simple questions here.

1) Running Win 10 Home and the start menu essentially never works. I can right click on the Windows icon and get some functionality, including the ability to shut down/restart. But is there anyway to increase the reliability of the start menu working? In Vista/7 and even 8/8.1 with Classic Shell it always worked flawlessly.

2) Windows Update. How does it work and how do you access it? Can you even utilize it on your own, or does Microsoft choose when you get updates? I can't seem to find an updater that lets you manually check for updates. It is not present in the control panel but in settings I found an updater, but clicking on it does nothing. Does this mean there are no new updates? I would prefer to install updates when I get a chance opposed to Microsoft bricking your computer for 20-30 minutes while it installs updates at the most inconvenient times.

Ironically I was backing up stuff preparing my desktop to move from 7 to 10, but I am not too sure if I want to now. 10 just seems very buggy and awkward in layout/design.

There's a "word bubble" icon in your system tray, click it and you'll open the Action Center. Select the "All Settings" flywheel icon. There should be a "Update & Security" icon.

Despite being Win 10 Home, you can instruct it to search for available updates and install on your own volition. It's only if you don't do that, Windows will d/l and schedule an install time.

A friend, who exhausted his resources at hand for trying to clear my infection, recommended I post here.

The issue:

* Was getting google search result redirects (seemes fixed after changing my DNS server)

* Cannot start Windows Defender (message: The Windows Security Center Service can't be started.)

* Cannot start Windoes Security Center Service

* Cannot start Microsoft Security Essentials (appears for a brief moment before evaporating)

* Malwarebytes comes up clean, Rkill comes up clean, Spybot detects two registry changes, says it "fixed" them, but the error remains in subsequent scans.
So, dear bleepingcomputer forum, here is the results of my DDS:

I was able to do this last month, but I am wondering if Microsoft ended the offer. I have another computer that I would like to run a clean install. It would be great if someone who actually accomplished this very recently would reply. Also, can I use the same key I used last month, or is it going to tell me that the license has been activated more than once (I've only used this key once on one computer)?

So I tried installing update-1 for Windows 8.1, however KB2919355 wouldnt install correctly. Luckily Microsoft released new Windows 8.1 ISOs with update 1 included, and I thought its always better to reinstall the whole system afresh, as I prefer to do so at least once every year.
I managed to get one of these ISOs, specifically: Windows 8.1 with Update (multiple editions) (x64) - DVD (English), then copied the ISO contents to bootable USB and managed to use it for formatting my laptop and installing a fresh operating system.
During the installation process I used a generic key (Bing windows 8.1 generic key and you will find one), then once the system is installed I was able to successfully activate it using my original Windows 8 upgrade key that I purchased for $15 during a promotional period late in 2012.
Today my brother was trying to do the same on his Surface Pro which comes originally with Windows 8. He used a tool to extract the product key from his system, however using that key to activate Windows 8.1 with Update 1 didnt work. We managed to use another tool called RWEverything to extract the actual key from the ACPI, and that key worked correctly to re-activate Windows. My brother gained around 8 GB on his Surface Pro after doing a clean installation of the system.
I hope this information is helpful to you guys. If you are not a MSDN subscriber, unfortunately I cant talk about where to get the ISOs from as it might be against the forum policy, but this is just to let... Read more

Answer:Clean install Windows 8.1 with Update 1, activate using original Windows 8 key

I really wish MS would just put these ISO's on their downloads web site. They've gotten the validation process down, needing valid keys, for installing. I would really make some of us techies lives so much easier if they did.
