Preferred Solution: disable Windows 7 D disk low data space warn

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: disable Windows 7 D disk low data space warn

You could do that with Disk management, but you would loose access to the drive. You don't have to use it, you designate where things go. Since I know nothing about your D drive, it's hard to say what the problem is. Is it a partition or a separate drive ?

Answer:Low Disk space on Recovery Disk data backup

You should not delete or modify in any way the contents of the recovery partition. Doing so could make it impossible to do a system recovery. In any event deleting these files would reclaim very little space.

I am very confused. I am running Windows XP on my home PC. All of a sudden, even though I have not recently installed or downloaded anything, I had less than 200MB free on my C: drive (which is a 230GIG drive). I started getting the pop-up warning in the system tray, so I went to Properties and did the Disk Cleanup. There was nothing abnormally large in the Recycle, Compressed Files, etc. In fact, I was barely able to clean any space off this way because everything was already taking up next to no space.

After this, I moved over 20GIGS of data on to a completely separate external drive (not a partition of the C: drive). I looked at my C: disk space and it was still around 200-300MB. I noticed as a kept the C: drive Properties window up that the space kept fluctuating throughout the day, going from 200MB to 300MB to 500MB (that was the max I have seen it at), then back down to 300 range and then back down to below 200MB, then back to 300... all the while, I am not downloading or deleting anything. (In the time I have been writing this, it has gone from 218MB to 318MB to 253MB to 316MB. It even got down to 76MB.) This could be completely normal behaviour, but I thought I would mention it anyway. The Low Disk Space error keeps popping up and then disappearing, popping up and then disappearing as this data fluctuates.

I am running a full virus scan but nothing has come up so far and it is almost done. It runs in the background anyway, so a virus surely would have been detected.... Read more

I installed Windows 10 on a new PC, with OS on Samsung 950 PRO. For data disk, at this stage, I use a Samsung 840 PRO which I transferred from my old 8.1 PC.

The data disk now shows in diskmanagment 351MB unallocated space, and 119 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition).
How can I reclaim the 351MB unallocated to get maximum capacity of the data disk?
Maybe this a standard case of repartitioning, but I am not familiar with that and do not know how to do it.
Thanks for the help.

Answer:Recover unallocated space on data disk

Case 1:
If the 351 GB unallocated partition is on the right of the 119GB primary partition then:
right click on the 119GB partition->extend volume.
Case 2:
If the 351GB is on the left of the 119GB primary partition then:
Create a primary partition for 351GB by right click on it->Create Simple and follow the screen to create a primary partition, format, assign a letter..Move all data from the 119GB partition to the newly created 351GB PartitionRight click on 119GB -> Delete VolumeRight click on the 351GB -> Extend Volume.

- Can anyone please help me with it?
- I checked this tutorial ""
- But not aware which option should i use so i can recover my data back.
- Can anyone please help me with it please
- It is a western Digital 1TB HDD

Answer:Hard Disk Unallocated Space. How to get data back.

The only thing I can think to try is to boot into Partition Wizard, and then attempt to recover any partitions on that HDD using the Recover Partition Wizard option.

Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

source ( Firefox Will Warn Users When Visiting Sites That Suffered a Data Breach

Mozilla engineers are working on a notifications system for Firefox that shows a security warning to users visiting sites that have suffered data breaches.

The notifications system will use data provided by Have I Been Pwned?, a website that indexes public data breaches and allows users to search and see if their details have been compromised in any of these incidents.

Code for this feature currently available as an add-on
Work on this project has only recently started. The code to show these warnings is not even in the Firefox codebase but managed separately as an add-on.

"[Breach Alerts] is an addon that I'm going to be using for prototyping an upcoming feature in Firefox that notifies users when their credentials have possibly been involved in a data breach," said Mozilla engineer Nihanth Subramanya in the add-on's description.

The code of this add-on is available on GitHub, and anyone can compile it and import it into Firefox. Only Firefox Developer Edition is currently supported.

The add-on is in early stages of development, and the warnings are rough on the edges. Currently, they trigger when the user visits a site included in Have I Been Pwned's list of public data breaches.

The alert also includes an input field. In the add-ons current version this field doesn't do anything, but we presume it's there to allow users to searc... Read more

Hi,The BIOS on my new HP 15-bc250na seems to have no option to disable the hybrid drives "Disk DATA Cache".I need to disable this as I want to limit the possibility of any encrypted data on the other disk being cached and corrupted.I have checked in Intel Rapid Storage Technology and according to the help you can disable the cache, however the values are not editable. How can I achieve disabling this option please.Kind RegardsJulian

Answer:Disable "Disk DATA Cache" on hybrid drive via BIOS

Hi,You should have two hard drives in your system. A 1TB mechanical hard drive and a 128 GB M2 Sata drive. Is it this last drive which is acting as cache? You should be able to press CTRL + i at startup and acess the Rapid storage rom settings to be able to stop the accelerated hard drive configuration which acts as a cache system. From the app Intel rapid storage technology which you can find in control panel, under tab performance you can stop the hard drive acceleration anf then in the same tab make the ssd available for normal use. Hope it helps,David

Hi, all, (yes I am computer handicapped. I'm coming here to seek information),
Lately, I've had this issue with a popup appearing that looks like this:

Pretty sure it's due to my ignorance. I was told to "make a backup" a while back. I think I did so, probably on this "DATA (D:)" drive, but I can't remember, and it would appear that it was a bad idea, because my computer seems to complain about it a lot.
I think these are my "specs". (Someone please tell me if these aren't my specs).

Well... I looked up some help. This is the page I looked up:
I took a screenie, here:

"Make sure you have created a set of recovery discs before using these steps. If the system stops responding, recovery discs can be used to perform a system recovery."
What does this mean...? Should I back up my files? Um... Any tips on a good way to do this? I have some flashdrives available to use for this, if that's what it's talking about. What files though? All files? Just "system" files?..... What about "registry" files? One of my family members said I should "back up" my "registry".
I appreciate any advice and wisdom I can get.

Answer:Computer Handicapped Person is "Running out of Disk Space on DATA(D:)"

Hello to all.

I have a problem with my windows 7 pro laptop that shows only 7,49/100 GB free memmory. I tried to delete all shadow copies and previous versions. Also did chckdsk /f which give me 0 errors, tried to search in hidden and OS files, but there arent any big files, diskcleanup with system files cleaned about 1 gb.
Then I downloaded winDirStat which shoved me that I only have 43Gb of data on my c: drive. I don't have any ideas what could be done to increase free disk space. Please help

Answer:Windows show low disk space, win dir stat shows different space

In My Computer, click the Tools menu then on Folder Options then click the View tab and tick "Show hidden files and folders" then untick "Hide protected system files and folders", click Apply and OK.

Then, go into c:\ windows and delete all the files in blue which statr with a $ symbol. They are only folders that once contained Windows Updates you no longer need to keep. Then scroll down to the Software Distribution folder and to Download. Empty that folder.

Look in Control Panel>Power options and make sure Hibernation is turned off then in System, adjust the size of System Restore so it takes up only 4% of the disk space.

Restart the computer and see hwo much space you freed up.

Here is a link to photobucket showing the recovery D full. Vista/RecoveryDfull.jpg
And here is a link of what inside the recovery D as i look inside as it said from the HP link above. Vista/FilesinrecoveryD.jpg

Close up pic of the files here the link.
Now is there anyway to solve this problem ?

Answer:Error: Low Disk Space. You are running out of disk space on Recovery (D:) For Vista,

Hi and welcome

We could use a screen shot of the drive D partition but probably your backups are stored there and you can delete the oldest to free up some space. Make sure you have another before you delete it. That partition is tiny bTW 9 gigs is way too small to be effective.

Then you may like to free up your computer with this cool disk cleaning software which is specially designed for Windows. The following steps will show you how to clear the junk files or useless stuff on the computer.
1, Run Colorful Disk Clean Desktop. (click here, Add folder or disk you want to scan. The data will be displayed as a color-coded sunburst map which clearly shows the size of each file or folder. It becomes quite easy for you to catch the space hogs. Information about each files or folder will also be displayed in the side bar on the right.
Drag the useless file or folder to the delete displaying area which is on the bottom of the program window beside the button “Delete”.
Left click the delete displaying area, the detail (name, size) will show up. If you don’t want to delete one file, select it on the top in the newly showing window. Then it will disappear in your file deleting area and return to its original state. Click “Delete” to delete file.
Additionally, you can also drag the piece of the colorful sunburst map to the delete displaying area to delete them. Folders are colored while files are in grey.

hi, guys, sorry for poor english

I use a lot the combination ctrl and space to select separate files, keep the crtl key down and using the arrow keys

so I keep ctrl pressed and navigate to the file I want to select and press the space bar to this.

But something changed in the micro and do not know what it is.

in windows explorer when I trigger ctrl and space, the cursor not only selects the file, but it goes into the search box of the windows explorer. similar to what happens with Ctrl + E.

I would like to know what happened and how to disengage it, to return to be able to select files not contiguous without the mouse.

Hey Guys,
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what my problem is. Basically, we had an issue with the computer and so we force restarted it at one point about a month ago. After that, we started getting requests to run a check disk after every time the computer was rebooted. The check disks take 20+ hours for some reason on this computer, and we cannot afford to have it down that long since it is a work computer. We cancelled the disk check and afterwards we noticed that the hard drive was filling itself up. The computer has a 450gb hard drive and after a couple of hours it was telling us that there were only 2mb of space left (we have maybe 20gb of data on the computer total). This is the point in which I stepped in and ran a disk cleanup and deleted all of the old system restore points. It gave us about a gb of space so I left it alone (I didn't realize at this point what the problem was, just thought it was too much stuff on the comp). The next day the computer's user told me it was the same problem and I knew that she wasn't using all of the space that I had found so I checked it out again. Once again, it was giving me the low disk space error. I decided to download and install Windirstat to see what was taking up all the space. When I run Windirstat, it tells me that 430gb of the 450gb of space is "Unknown". After that, I shut it down and let it run the check disk completely over the course of a weekend. It ran for about a week after... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 No Disk Space after Disk Check Cancellation

Likely the file system was messed up by the forced restart, a rare but possible occurence.

So the unknown used space may be failed attempts to copy data over to repair the file system. This is why it's always advised to back up data before doing a Disk Check and of course data should always be backed up anyway against HD failure - which itself cannot be ruled out here.

I would test the HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by a Disk Check done from the Win7 disk or Repair CD's System Recovery Options Command Line which doesn't depend upon the OS on a potentially scrambled file system.

Hi everybody, I've made a lot of progress with this external drive, but I seem to be stuck now.

Unidentified problem with 3TB external drive (USB 3.0 enclosure) that the computer suddenly started treating as RAW. Spent the last two weeks running CHKDSK /r repeatedly. Slowly got through many hundreds of indexing errors. Now I get as far as "verifying security descriptors (stage 3 of 5)," but I seem to have hit a wall here...

CHKDSK won?t go any further because there is "Insufficient disk space to fix the security descriptors data stream."

Microsoft?s advice (Error Message:) is of no help to me. They say to ?delete some unneeded files from the disk and try again,? which doesn?t help me since I can?t get the drive to mount or stay mounted long enough to copy the files onto a different drive.

The drive behaves differently each times I power up its enclosure, but it is usually one of these things:

Drive doesn't mount.
Drive mounts after a few minutes. I see a generic "Local Disk L:" in Windows Explorer but, when I try to explore its folders, the computer takes about 15 minutes trying to read it (I can see the progress bar moving slowly across the top of the screen), and then says that "The parameter is incorrect." Drive disappears from Windows Explorer.

Hi everyone,

I am really curious how to disable Windows logging. I was reading something on Wikipedia about privacy and security; and came across something interesting that I cannot find much about on Google. It stated that "many programs and operating systems are set up to perform data logging of usage". For example, this might be recording the times when the computer was in use, or some applications we use on Windows. Whoever wrote the article stated that its possible to disable Windows logging - but my question is - is it? And how can this be achieved?

"Experts warn of new Windows vulnerabilities"

"Symantec's Security Response has issued a warning about three new "serious" vulnerabilities discovered in the Windows operating system.

"We believe these threats to be serious, especially given the time of year that they have been discovered," said Alfred Huger, senior director of Symantec Security Response. "Many consumers are shopping on-line and many businesses are short-staffed making these threats more worrisome. Two out of these three vulnerabilities could potentially be used to install malicious code such as spyware on an unsuspecting victim's computer, and take complete control of their computer."

The vulnerabilities were initially reported by Venustech Security Labs. Patches for these vulnerabilities are not currently available, and Microsoft has not yet confirmed the flaws exist. But Symantec Security Response says it believes that the risks posed by these reported vulnerabilities are "high," and has issued an alert to users of the operating system.
The Microsoft Windows LoadImage API Function Integer Overflow Vulnerability is a remotely exploitable vulnerability in Windows image processing. It exists in the LoadImage API instruction used by many Web browsers and e-mail clients. I have a brand new W530 with the 500 GB HD -- 445 GB actual total space in C: ("Windows7_OS"), including about 85 GB of OS, pre-installed applications, and Lenovo bloat-ware). I plan to create a separate user-data partition by stealing space from the OS partition, call it E:, and to re-direct user Documents, Pictures, etc. directories plus the Outlook PST file there. Thus C: will be reserved mainly for Windows, Page File, Crash Dump, Restore Points, and new software installation. Any thoughts about a reasonable division of drive space between these two partitions? Coming from Windows XP 32bit on a much smaller HD, I have little idea what to expect in terms comfortable space requriements for Windows 7 64bit. (I realize I can re-size the partitions later, but it seems best to start with realistic allocations...) -- JCW2

Answer:What is a Reasonable Tradeoff Between System and Data Space in Windows 7 64bit?

It is hard to comment without some idea how the machine will be used. Some applications are not very well behaved and install on the c: drive regardless of what you do. Some functions, like the briefcase functions in windows 7 are harder to get off c:, although it can be done. (I got it right the second time I tried) If you share files using briefcase, you end may up with most of your data on c:. I decided I wanted to boot from an SSD, but I needed more data, so I put in a 256GB mSATA drive and moved my boot partition there. I used my entire HD for data. That worked out well for me.

Does anyone have a rough idea on how much space both Windows XP Pro and Service Pack 3 take up? I have an old 6gig hard drive and am putting together another system so I was thinking of using that old hard drive instead of buying a new one.

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional to replace Vista SP2. The new OS occupied 42G of disk space. I'm thinking this is a bit much. What is the "normal" experience?

Answer:Windows 7 Pro disk space

This is probably because you did not officially format the drive. If you do a clean install on top of a previous OS with actually formatting, it will stick everything from your old OS in the Windows.old folder and take up tons of space.A while back, I experimented with clean installs of the different editions of Windows 7 to see if higher editions would take up more drive space. See here. You can use Disk Space Reporter to tell you what is using up your hard drive space.A clean install should take up less than 10GB. I'll bet all that extra is in the Windows.old folder, which you can safely delete if you don't have any data you need from your old install.

Answer:low disk space in windows XP

Do you have a lot of programs installed?

Go to Start > Run, and type:

chkdsk /f <Enter>

Answer "y" when asked if you want to check the drive on next boot. Reboot.

Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, View tab. Click to show hidden and system files.

Then, use this program to try to determine where all the used space went, in which folder, and what files.

Answer:low disk space on windows 7

Windows constantly checks to see whether there'senough free space on your hard drive. If thereisn't, it displays a low disk space warning. Theproblem is, all this disk space checking uses anumber of system resources, and you probablyknow if your disk space is low, anyway. You can speed up your PC by turning off this low disk space checking. Here's how to do it:1. Open the Registry Editor.2. Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Policieskey.3.If the Explorer key exists, select it. If not, right-click in the rightmost pane andselect New, Key. Name this new key Explorer, and then select it.4. Right-click in the rightmost pane and select New, DWORD (32-bit) Value.5. Name the new DWORD NoLowDiskSpaceChecks.6. and select Modify.7. In the Edit DWORD dialog box, change the value to 1.8. Click OK.Note: A DWORD is a special type of data value used for some Registryentries.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit Enterprise Edition.

I would like the installation to use the least disk space possible.
You can see the steps that I have already taken in the screenshot below.

Answer:Using the least disk space possible with Windows 7

Disable hibernation if it's not needed, as the hiberfil.sys will be as large as the amount of installed memory.

Run command prompt as administrator and type: powercfg –h off

I also reduced the size of my page file, but many here are advocates of just leaving it alone.

One of my computers is almost out of space on Drive C: so I ran a TreeSize Free scan to find the areas of biggest usage. The single largest chunk was SysPart, followed by Windows, then Users files. Further analysis shows SYSPART actually seems to contain a duplication of everything on the regular C: Drive but I can't see where to access it to delete anything. This computer has 4 user profiles and in the scan, all 4 profiles are listed in C: as well as in SYSPART. Three profiles are listed with duplicate amounts in SYSPART and in C: Drive, while the other one strangely enough has storage in SYSPART and 0GB in the C: Drive.

Am I the only one to notice and complain over this in W8.1.

This morning a new Adobe Flash update has appeared, KB3079777. The update is sized at 17.9mb. Nothing is running on the PC, its idle and with no disk activity. Free space is 55.4GB. I apply the update and free space immediately falls to 54.9gb. This behaviour is consistent with every such patch applied. Now over time, that space will return which suggests that something else is going on here. But what ?

Answer:Free disk space & space used by a single Flash Update.

Looks like it is just me then. Today brought a 4.6Mb W8.1>W10 computability update. My free space changed from 55.2Gb to 54.7Gb.

Sounds about right. Ho hum....

The P2P software---it's risky, it's not supported by this forum, and it's probably filling your hard drive with the 'lots of cartoons and series' you're downloading.

The company line here (and my personal opinion as well) is to get rid of the DC++ and the Limewire.

Hi there I have another thread running on this forum as well to do with my w98se machine, However this is about my XP Pro system

I had this problem for ages and wondered if anyone here could help.

When I boot up the machine after everything is up and running I found that I was losing disk space fast, for some reason it writes information into a file called trace.log which is in C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI

I turned this machine on about three hours ago and the trace.log file has grown in size from 0 bytes to 793 Mb if I leave the machine on permanently it will eventually fill the entire disk probably within 24 to 36 hours.

if I reboot it the file starts again at 0 bytes

Any ideas?

With windows 10 loaded the HP Stream 11 and 13 will have minimum diskspace. I want to list the steps that you can take to over come this issue. I haven't seen all of these remedies posted any where. So, this is what I have found to make a bad situation better. 1. Install memory card 2. In Windows 10 in settings set storage settings to point to the memory card. 3. Instead of having the download folder pointing to c drive have it point to d. That way what is downloaded will be loaded to the memory card. 4. Set virtual memory to 1 gb. Mine was setting at 1.6. I dropped it to 1 gb and I see no difference in performance. I gained about 600 meg by doing this 5. Use the Disk Management tool and look at the partitions that are on drive c. I eliminated all of them except the EFI partition. These partitions get created when you upgreade to a different OS. This was the biggest gain in disk space for me. About 2 gb. I decided I wasn't going backward so I don't need the partitions. The Disk Management tool will show the partitions. Use the DiskPart.EXE to delete them. DiskPart.EXE is a command prompt tool. 6. Use the disk cleanup tool to get rid of unnecssary files. Be sure to clean up the system files. It's a choice that is in the tool. Hopefully this will be of some help for you to regain some disk space.

I have upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Now, my C drive is almost full with 714GB occupied by "System and reserved". I was in an assumption that, Windows 10 was suppose to take less space. Can you please help me in this.

Answer:Windows taking more disk space

1. How much disk space was used when you had Win 8.1 (so we have a comparison)
2. Windows.old is created- your old Windows folder- and will be there for a month unless you specifically remove it. Thus your used space will increase by at least that much, temporarily. That's what gives you the option to revert to 8.1.
3. Please try using a desktop disk space analyser such as windirstat or spacesniffer and post part of a suitable report or display so what's taking space is visible. Or even a view from a file manager sorted by folder size would help.

Hi guys. I was thinking of shifting from my Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit), but I am not sure of the disk space I should allocate .

Info on my HDD :-

Seagate ST3250318AS 250GB

Partition Info :

Drive C (Primary) : Total space=25 GB ; Free Space=7.04 GB
Drive D : Total space=50 GB ; Free Space=638 MB
Drive E : Total space=50 GB ; Free Space=938 MB
Drive F : Total space=50 GB ; Free Space=2.59 GB
Drive G : Total space=43 GB ; Free Space=418 MB
Drive H : Total space=15 GB ; Free Space=2.92 GB

OK, So I was thinking of deleting the partitions labeled C: & D: for allocating space for Windows 7. My Question is how much minimum space should be allocated so that I can install Windows 7 plus all my programs and games ?.
Currently I have almost maximum number of programs installed on WinXP but no games (which would have taken a maximum 5 to 6 GB for one game).

So... disk space for Win 7 + programs + games + some extra free space for future use=?

My system specs:
Motherboard: Intel 945GTP
Processor: P4 3.2 GHz
DVD Writer: HP dvd1260
Video Card: nVidia 9500 GT 1GB

I installed windows 7 professional 64 bit on a western digital disk that has 160GB. When the installation was done, I went to My Computer and saw that it used more than 80GB of disk space. I enabled hidden folders and measured everything that was in the computer - all files combined including system and windows file do not add up to more than 16GB. So how come it is showing that half the disk is in use?

I looked for windows.old file thinking maybe this is what taking space, but I found nothing.

Also, I formatted the disk before I installed windows7 and deleted everything, so supposedely there shouldnt have been any left overs from previous installations (and indeed there isnt).

Any suggestions as to what is taking up so much space and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Internet Logs

I compressed a couple of those directories to get my drive to 1 GB. In any of those or maybe other directories, can I delete old files or move them to my other hard disk?

A few days ago a file called Windows updated itself on my laptop. I had around 19GB of space and now I have only 400MB free. Is there any way to undo whatever has happened on my notebook without deleting anything else? Even if I deleted other things, it would not free up a gig.

Answer:Low disk space after a windows update

Have you been able to reboot since it updated? If you have, try this. On Win 10, tap the windows key so the start menu appears, then start to type disk cleanup. you should see it show up, select that. It may take some time to scan your harddrive. Select every option available. It should tell you how much room it can clean up for you. Then hit OK at the bottom and let it run. It should tell you it needs to reboot to complete, save any work you may have open then let it reboot. Once its back up you should have way more space available. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

The oddest thing is happening to me. Recently I installed SP2 about two weeks ago. The PC is fast and everything seems to work ok. I have two harddisks installed. When I move big files from one drive to another, the drive that receives the file reports less space, but the drive that sends the file reports the space amount of space.

If I delete a file from any of the drives, it automatically recovers that space. But when I decide to move(cut) the files, it doesn't. I ran scandisk and no change. Why is that happening?

I have a P4 system with 2.8 G Hz speed, 512 MB Ram and 60 GB hard drive. It has windows xp pro installed as an operating system. The hard drive has 4 partitions out of which only C: is NTFS while all others are FAT32 based.

When I take the properties of drive (by right clicking on its icon in My computer), windows xp tells me that the used space is 19.6 GB and the free space is 6.2 GB. But when I take the size of all files and folders present on drive C: (by going in drive C: and then taking properties after selecting all using cntrl a), the total size comes out to be 16.1 GB. I wonder why windows xp is showing 3.5 GB as an extra used space, which does not correspond to any data present on drive.

I have an updated antivirus and anti spyware softwares installed on my system and am sure that there is no virus or spyware present.

Any help would be appreciated

Answer:Incorrect used disk space on windows XP

Probably several reasons.
Each "sector" on the drive is a defined size, and where a program taks 91.3 sectors 92 are allocated as sectors cannot be shared

That would add up on a per file basis, if Windows only reports the byte size of the file and not the sector size used on the drive.

Also remember that Windows reports binary GB (base 1024) while the drive maker used decimal GB (base 1000) so a 60 GB (decimal) drive has 60/1.024/1.024/1.024=55.8 GB (binary)

I formatted the D drive but I do not have an option in the menu to delete it in the disk manager. I have been at it all day and I am at a loss. I need to delete the duplicate of windows 7 and fix the low disk space problem.

Answer:Low disk space after reinstalling windows seven.

Well basically after having about 2 days worth of trouble with booting my computer up and it actually working proberly.. I re-installed Vista Ultimate from scratch losing all my programs and files... Luckly I have backed up my files before I did this.. so that was ok... after Windows Vista being installed about 3 days after my computer wouldn't boot up again it just had a blank screen... so I used roll back.. and now it works ok..
My computer is much faster now which I am happy off however.. I have absolutely no disk space.. not even enough to save an add on..

Here are my specs

32.5GB free of 69.0GB

639MB free of 5.41GB

I have 512mb worth of memory and I have a AMD Sempron Processor 3000+

What I am actually getting at is how do I clean up my hard drive so I have more space?

I am also looking to buy more memory for my computer I know what speed my RAM works at so thats fine.. however what else I was wondering was how much memory will my processor be able to handle? I want at least 1024mb of memory..

Also where can I buy cheap memory from I am in the UK so a UK site would be better..

Thank you in advance

Answer:Windows Vista Disk Space

When you re-install Vista, it saves your previous installation in a folder (I think) called "\windows.old" - this folder is likely to be many gigabytes and can be safely deleted - provided that you have a backup.

Another option is to try the disk cleanup option by typing "Disk Cleanup" in the Start search bar.

I've been having problems with my desktop computer with Windows XP as the OS. Recently, my computer was infected with a virus and my solution was to reformat the hard drive and reinstall all operating components.

Since this has been accomplished, no virus, but the disk space on my 40GB desktop is severely limited (in Local Disk (D). I receive warnings from Windows XP continuously to free up space, but all the programs currently loaded on my desktop are vital and definitely not 40GB.

I initially believed that I had inadvertantly installed 2 Windows XP operating systems, but I have verified and I only have 1 installed. Please help me figure out what on my desktop is hoarding all my disk space, and how I can remedy this problem. I greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

I have had my computer running Windows 7 for 5 months now. I just received an alert stating that my backup disk space (17.47gb), which is located on my external hardrive, is running out of space (2.00 mb).

I know that the main solution would be to get another external hardrive and transfer my back up disk to it. However, is there an alternative solution to this?

Also, does back up disk space increase over time or does this alert have to do with the storage on my external getting extremely low?

Is back up disk space even necessary?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows 7 Backup Disk Space

Hi -

Is the total size of the external USB HDD < 20 GB?

What files are being backed up?

How are they being backed up, i.e., by what application?

Regards. . .

Setting up a new box, Vista sadly to say. Installed MS Office XP Pro and get the following error when closing MS Word ONLY. Excel saves without any errors.

The disk is full. Free some space on this drive, or save the document on another disk. Try one of the following:
*Close any unneeded documents, programs, and windows.
*Save the document on another disk.

I've moved the file location and same error. I cleaned up the drive including removing all restore point except the last one.

Now this thing has a 250 gig drive but it is also used for security in a mini mart with 8 cameras. There are about 145 Gigs of video from the security cameras on this box. At this time I am just setting it up, no cameras are connected, and the security program hasn't been set up yet. I just moved the files from the old drive to this one. BTW the old drive crashed.

I've tried the detect and repair in MS Word and no help. I have uninstalled MS Office and reinstalled and no help and even went into Properties and set the user up on quota with no limits and still no help.

So now I am at a loss and have no idea what to try next. Really don't want to delete the security files because it took 6 hours to transfer them to this computer and unless all else fails this isn't a option I want to use.

Now on the old box, which had XP Pro this, was not a problem so on Vista it should not be either but then Vista is a MS Software so this is understandable. Actually, the old box had a 15... Read more

See screen shot:

You can not merge it. Right click on it and try to shrink it to about 350MB.

I have 654 GB space in c . and when i extend it into another drive it shows unallocated disk . when i tried to make a new drive throuh new simple volume it show an error "you cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contain the maxximum number of partition "

Answer:how to create unallocated disk space to free space ..

A hard disk can only contain four partition. They can be either four primary partitions or three primary partitions and one extended partition. An expended partition can contain as many logical drives as there is space and drive letters to accommodate them. The only partition you can extend into the unallocated space is the last one in the partition tablet. If you want to extend any other partition you need to move existing partitions into the unallocated space until the space is immediately after the partition you want to extend. To do that you will need some third party software like partition magic. Stuart

We just placed a new Dell Dimension. It has a 40 Gig hard drive.

User keeps getting this message:

This machine has over 30 gigs of free space. It's impossible that there is a disk space issue.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Some sort of mis-communication or setting?

Answer:Disk Space Error - 30 Gigs free space

It should be a configuration setting. I'd call Dell if you just got this machine. Their "english" is a little suspect though. It sounds like some hokey Dell software reminding you to back up your drive. When does the message appear? After it boots?

This is my first post on this forum

My Hard Drive is almost full but I don't understand why. I've check how many space was left on my C:\ with its property windows and it says "22GB left" but when I enter the C:\ drive and I select all the files and then toggle the property windows, it says that only 92.5 GB is used...Is there any "invisible" files that I don't see?

Check the attachement (in french sorry ) for more informations

I have a computer that has their "c: drive" almost full (221 gb drive). Every time it boots a message comes up saying "Windows created a temporary paging file on your computer because of a problem that occurred with your paging file configuration when you started your computer. The total paging file size for all disk drives may be somewhat larger than the size you specified." So first I tried adjusting the Virtual Memory BUT, I only have a drive C and a previous drive that is no longer there. So I am not for sure what drive to set my virtual memory to because there is not enough space on C drive with it being almost completely full and the one drive is non-existent. I am sure its a easy fix and im missing a step but i appreciate the help guys Thanks!

Answer:Low Disk Space "Temporary File Space Error"

I would type Run in the search box. Start it and then in the Run box type %temp%. This will open up the temp folder for the current user. These files are safe to delete. Log in to every other user and use the same command. Once those are deleted, use Ccleaner to clear all the browser cache then set the Paging file to 1.5 times the RAM on the system.

Hi all,

So I've been having disk space issues lately on my windows XP machine. After downloading TreeSize, I found that ~67 GB of my ~80 GB hard drive are taken up by Windows Installer Files. These are mostly .msp files (in total, there are 11,657 files taking up 66.7 of the 67 GB).

I've read around and read various things about these files, but I wanted to come here to get some confirmation about how to remove these files (if I can remove these files). It seems like a lot of them are duplicates, I'm looking for a good quick clean way to get rid of the dups, or just a nice simple way to decrease the size of this folder in general without destorying my computer. I see no reason that these files should take up 67 GB.

Specs below.

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, 32 bit
Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2400 @ 1.83GHz, x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8

I can't explain this and at this point am pretty infuriated because it simply makes no sense to me.

Space is randomly disappearing on my hard drive, (I check how much free space there is like, 10x a day, so I automatically know when something isn't right)

Had 17.3GB free this morning, restarted my computer. After it booted up, now only 15.6GB free.

I have completely scoured the HD and it's program files, there is NOTHING new on it.

Really losing my mind here guys.

Edit: I just found 2GB worth of stuff in my AppData/Local/Temp folder, but the dates of these files go back a lot longer than this morning. Deleting it anyway.

Hi,Just purchase a new T61 with 140GB hard disk running Windows Vista Business. After installing Office 2007 Standard and Acrobat v8 Standard. I realized that I am left with only 13.5GB space. My personal data/files only take up about 20-25GB, including email files. What happen to all the storage space ? Does Windows Vista take up large storage space that "eats up" all my space. ? Can someone help. thanks.

Answer:T61 or Windows Vista used up disk space so fast ?

Load up Rescue and Recovery console. I'm willing to bet that your automatic backups are taking up a large amount of space. You should be able to view the backups, optimize storage and delete unnecessary backups. Cheers The IT Guys Ltd.
