disable program debugger in windows 7?

Question: disable program debugger in windows 7?

I was trying to run MathCAD 2001i under windows 7 64 and the program has a security block that prevents it from starting under a debuger. The windows 7 environment appears to be running under a debuger all the time. I believe if I can turn off this feature in windows 7 the program will run.does anyone know how to disable debugging for one program in windows 7 64bit?

Preferred Solution: disable program debugger in windows 7?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: disable program debugger in windows 7?

The computer is not running in debugging mode, although the application might think that it is. Unless you are a developer and have a suitable debugger installed this wouldn't even be possible. This is a compatibility issue. MathCAD 2001i is not compatible with Windows 7. You could try running the application in compatibility mode, accessible from the programs properties in Windows Explorer. If that doesn't work you have a number of options.1. Upgrade to a more recent and compatible version of MathCAD. This would be best.2. If your edition of Windows 7 supports XP mode you could try that.3. Install VirtualPC or VirtualBox and install XP on that. You can then install MathCAD in that emulated OS.

Hey guys,

I recently went to update my mobile video card drivers on my ASUS G73JH laptop and after doing so, on boot up I would see this error message after saying my CCC.exe has crashed...

I also couldn't access any programs that make use of the video card, every time I would open one, it would crash before opening.

So I rolled back my drivers and everything is fine, but obviously, I would like to update my drivers for my video card, but not really sure what to try... any advice?

Let me know if you need any more info!
Thanks in advance,
-Rob

Answer:JIT Debugger Error & Program Crashes After Updating Drivers

Hm. I've found a couple of things on this and majority of them seem to suggest one of two things:

- Disable the Just-In-Time Debugger
On the Tools menu, click Options.
In the Options dialog box, select the Debugging folder.
In the Debugging folder, select the Just-In-Time page.
In the Enable Just-In-Time debugging of these types of code box, select or clear the relevant program types: Managed, Native, or Script.
To disable Just-In-Time debugging, once it has been enabled, you must be running with Administrator privileges. Enabling Just-In-Time debugging sets a registry key, and Administrator privileges are required to change that key.
Click OK.

Link for the suggestion; READ FIRSTPay particular attention to the last two posts in that link.

- Perform a clean boot
Click Start , type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue .
On the General tab, click Selective Startup .
Under Selective Startup , click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All .
Click OK .
When you are prompted, click Restart .
After the computer starts, start the game or program and check whether the problem is resolved.

Link for suggestion; READ FIRSTI'll continue to look into it for you, but should you decide to do anything you should create a restore ... Read more

So, when I set a default program in the Settings app and then open a file, Windows still asks which program I want to use. Admittedly, it does this only once per file type, but this is extremely annoying in a work environment where there are numerous computers.

For example, I went into the Settings app and set the .AU3 file extension to be opened in a specific program. Then, I double-clicked an .AU3 file, and I got this window:

It has the correct default in the above image, but it asks if I want to "keep using this app." Why? Can I make this stop? It's annoying.

Answer:Windows asks default program even after being set: disable this?

First/final bump. Any ideas?

Hello,

I upgraded to Windows 7 RC yesterday, but now that I finished upgrading, I can't login through Asus Security Protect Manager. It gives a 'server error' when I try and login through the fingerprint recognition or password.

However, I was able to login through Safe Mode in Windows 7. Does anyone know how I can bypass the Asus Security or disable it? I can't uninstall it through Safe Mode.

Also, there's no System Restore point I can roll back to. Thanks.

Answer:Security Program Prevents Windows 7 Login. Must Disable

ummm.... i dont have any experience with FPreaders.... but i am going to take an educated guess and say that this is in the bios settings maybe. You can access your bios usually by hitting Delete during p.o.s.t check (where it displays your cpu, memory, etc). Navigate around somewhere there in the bios and look for settings related to the FP recognition... may be around the same place the "boot up" password is located... or integrated peripheals is another spot. Make sure you hit F10 to save any changes.

I just bought a copy of the Battlefield 1942 Complete Collection (BF1942, Secret Weapons of WWII, Road to Roam, and BF Vietnam on 8 CDs in one box), and installed it on my computer. When I try to run it, I get a pop-up error message that says "A debugger has been detected: unload the debugger and try again"

I have searched everywhere on how to fix this problem, and still haven't been able to find anything. I've searched tons of gaming forums, but all of them just point to the MS support page dealing with this problem. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812759) I've tried 5 of those methods, and still nothing worked.

When I searched for Amdfix.sys, my computer didn't find anything, and I also couldn't find the "Welcome Menu" they were talking about in Method 4.

Can someone please help me on this?

Thanks,
Mike S.
edit: I just tried playing BF: Vietnam, and it works, but after about 2~3 mins in the game, the screen goes black, and the computer becomes unresponsive. A small bit of sound still loops, but other than that, nothing happens, and the only thing I can do is do a hard-reset.

So I have this game I want to play but it won't run if I have this program called Rapture3D installed. I got that program when I installed Dirt 3. I don't want to have to uninstall the program whenever I want to play that game that won't run and reinstall it for when I play Dirt 3.

Is there some program out there that can block programs such as Rapture3D from running when this game is launched?

Answer:Program to Disable other Programs when a Program is ran

Just to keep looking for it and killing it should be pretty easy. You could request someone code it for you here

Please read the rules before posting.

edit: it's called "coding snacks" because naturally a programmer cannot code a large application for free. But something that only takes an hour or two, they may write it for you. Or they may suggest one they already know about.

Question: Windows Debugger??

Not sure this is the right forum for this question - if not, MODS can feel free to move away - maybe it should go in "All Other Software".

Have been reading up on the Micrisoft Windows Debugger tool (for reading and interpreting dump files), and it looks like maybe it's only for XP Pro, NOT XP Home, but the literature is confusing and unclear at best.

OK . . . the question: Which is it - XP Pro ONLY, or is it for both Pro and Home??

I think its for every version of the windows

Piece of cake you have the wrong version installed. If you are 64bit you have 32 installed. If 32 the 64.

I have what I am sure is a very simple question, but I can't find anything in search. (Perhaps I am not wording it right) I am trying to set up a POS system on a computer, and I want absolutely EVERYTHING to be disabled on that account except the POS program. I would imagine there has to be a piece of software that can do it. Oh yes, and I would rather a piece of freeware, if possible... Unless there is another way?

A while ago, I installed a trial version of an anti-virus program onto my computer. The program was called Radial Point. I got tired of the program, and tried to uninstall it, by going to "Settings," "Control Panel," and then "Add Or Remove Programs," but for some reason, I just could not uninstall the program. I then tried to uninstall it by clicking on the program's uninstall feature, but that didn't work either. SO, out of frustration, I decided to delete the program, by moving the entire program file into my "Recycle Bin." When I tried doing that, one of the files could not be deleted. So, I just manually sent each file that could be deleted into my "Recycle Bin," and then emptied the "Recycle Bin."

But now, for some reason, every time I second-hand click on any files/folders/programs, etc., 2 different windows pop up:

1) Please wait while Windows configures Radial Point.
2) An error occurred while uninstalling the Anti-Virus. Please contact Customer Support to inquire about this problem.

My question is, how do I disable those windows from popping up, whenever I use the second-hand click feature? They're so annoying. Right now, I just close those windows when they pop up, but I just want to destroy them somehow, and prevent them from ever popping up.

Please help!

Ok, Ive been working on this for 2 days and cant figure it out....

We have multiple users on one computer. All have local admin rights, however, no one is that computer literate here, except me.

Without stirring the pot too much, and telling people to STOP DOWNLOADING crap!...i would like to silently disable the ability of anyone to install programs.

I have already restricted downloading using the registry, but is there anything that can stop program installation?

I have already disabled Windows Installer, but 3rd party software still installs.

oh...And this must be done without making new Groups or Users. Everyone has Admin capability.

This is Windows 2000 Pro.

Thanks!

Hello I am new to this forum as i bet most people are when they have problems. I run Windows Vista Home Premium on Gateway laptop T- Series. I recently battled some mal-ware about a couple month ago which i finally solved but now i have a new mal-ware problem that has seemed to emerge from the blue. About 90% of all .exe files on my computer will not open and simply give me a small error box saying "Debugger Detected [97]." Another thing i have noticed is that i have Windows Police Pro no matter how many times i uninstall and remove files. It seems the only applications that work right now are Mozilla and simple Microsoft apps such as welcome center, uninstall programs, etc but no programs such as I-explorer, skype, system recover, movies, or new exe file. First my computer would reset automatically saying the explorer crashed and would not allow me into safe mode or normal mode. Currently it is allowing me to run my computer so i fear turning my system off in the event that it wont let me back on. I have read the entire Windows Police Pro topic and tried dl and using MBAM but i get the error message when i try to open the file. I read all the suggestions online on how to kill Window police pro but they don't do any good if you can't get into any program. I tried what they suggested. I could not launch Regedit. I could not get into Task manager. I finally got into Task manager by doing Alt-Ctrl-Del. But then Windos police pro is not running. I download killer programs but they can't run because of the stupid Debugged Detected [97] message. Now I can't even get into Control Panel. The person that infected people with this stupid Window police have his balls cut off then be shot. People like that don't deserve to live. Wasting people time and energy just for their own amusement. They may think they feel smart when they do this but the truth is they are really stupid because Karma will get them in the end. Any help from anyone will be appreciated. Finding this person who created Window police will be rewarded.

After following whatever steps I could find online to find the blue screen errors from my last 3 bsod's, Ive hit a roadblock.

sfc /scannow has left me with an error at 35%- and I am unable to open the log file it directs me to. No matter what concoction of permissions I give it, opening it brings me to a "Access is denied" error.

I was also running the windows debugger i had installed. I see that it shows "There was error with disk hardware." I dont know where to go with that little amount of info. Hoping my newbie eyes just doesn't see whats in front of me. Please let me know what info I can get from this in sorting out the issue, or what my next step should be in resolving a potential disk issue. Check disk?
So, Im going to do what a good newbie should and copy&paste (what I believe to be...) everything.

Could you show me how to disable an anti-virus program pls? Thanks

Answer:Disable Anti-virus program

Depends on which Anti-Virus program you are using... Each Anti-Virus has different method of disabling.

Tell us that and we will able to help you further.

If you want to disable it from Startup, use CCleaner's Startup Manager or MSConfig's Startup Manager.

If you want to disable it, you normally need to get into the settings.

And if you want to remove it, use an anti-virus removal tool:

If I reboot the operating system, the utility program vanishes and keyboard operation goes back to normal until I accidently hold down shift for a few seconds again. I find this irritating. Is there anyway to disable StickyKeys so it will not start?

I disabled the "Tablet PC Input Service" in Services management console for a Desktop 64bit Win 7.
I guess this is the underlying service for WISPTIS.EXE

Now when I start some other tools like "Toad for MySQL" then this program is started automatically anyway.

It is running as

C:\Windows\System32\WISPTIS.EXE /ManualLaunch

Since I found no option in Toad.exe it must be started automatically by Win7 itself.
Even worse: After exit of Toad WISPTIS continues to run.

Why ?

Why is disabling a service not enough?

Maybe it is run not as a service but as a "normal" program?
On another Win 7 computer it is NOT started when Toad is launched.
Very strange

How can I really, really get rid of this WISPTIS.EXE start?

Can I simply delete it?

I know this sounds a little crazy, but I have a lot of folders with a very high number of files including a couple that have more than 1000. I know that I should sort through them, but, A, I don't have the time, and B, there's only so much sorting I can do on them because a lot of the stuff needs to stay in the same place regardless, and C, well, have you ever tried sorting through 1000+ files? d-: Anyway, whenever I open one of these folders that have .exe files in them, explorer freezes for a good while and takes up a lot of resources while it pauses to read over every single .exe file and other similar files to load any icons they have inside them. I have tested this and am 100% sure that it's only those folders (to tell the truth, I actually have a folder with about 1000 midi files in the root, but you can't laugh, I love music, ok?) So, I wonder if there is not some way to make explorer stop doing this. Understand now that I mean specifically those things where it reads in the file itself, looks for an icon, then shows that icon for the program (which is almost specific entirely to .exe files, but there are some exceptions such as .scr screensaver files and a few other formats.) The normal file format icons (eg the icons for formats such as audio/etc) are basically harmless, though I hardly care if I have to disable those since, unlike Microsoft, I think you have to be an idiot to let windows decide for you what type of file you are looking at (referr... Sorry for yet another thread on UAC, but I haven't found anything on this one yet.

I want the ability to give a standard user ability to use a specific application that presently requires UAC approval, without having to completely disable UAC across the board. Can I do that?

This seems like something fundamental that should be in W7, which is to allow the administrator to deem certain programs as safe for standard users.

But right now it prompts the standard user for the administrator password, which isn't what I want.

I'm hoping there's a way.

I have Windows XP, and have experienced a problem w/ my lap top. I just started experiencing this problem about 8 hours ago. When I put it on standby, and then try to turn it on again, the startup freezes at about the halfway point in the screen that says "Windows is restarting..." and has a progress bar on the bottom. When I shut off my computer and restart it, it freezes right after I type in my name and password, only showing my desktop background and nothing else pops up. If I start my computer in safe mode, I am able to start it up fine and run programs. I have run Malwarebytes as well as Combofix. When I get my computer to start, a Just-In-Time debugging window pops up all the time, saying "New instance of Microsoft Script Editor" and asks me if I want to debug. If I run Combofix, my computer is able to restart and Windows XP ends up completely starting when Combofix reboots my PC. Same thing happens if I try a system restore, I am able to successfully reboot my PC without going into safe mode. Also, when I run Combofix, I get a warning that says "There was a rootkit found", and it restarts my PC before scanning it. Here is my Combofix log:ComboFix 10-12-26.01 - rowens 12/27/2010 0:34.5.2 - x86Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1022.468 [GMT -7:00]Running from: c:\documents and settings\rowens\Desktop\Combo-Fix.exeAV: McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware *Disabled/Updated* {84B5EE75-64... Could someone please help me?

I am having problems whenever I leave my computer for more than a couple of hours. When I come back to it, it is sluggish or completely frozen and has to be rebooted. Then I am having trouble with only certain web sites running extremely slowly while most others run normally in IE7.

As for my computer, it is 2 1/2 years old.

It is a Gateway 3 GHz with 1 GB RAM, running XP Media Center. I also have an HP 3GHz with 2GB RAM with XP Media Center that I try to keep running for my husband, and a whole room full of ancient obsolete machines dating all the way back to windows 95. The HP is only 6 months old refurb.

The two are networked together with a Netgear wireless router using the wired ports and Cox broadband access.

They are firewalled behind the router and additionally, using Zone Alarm Pro. I am running the full suite of Zone Alarm security products including firewall virus protection and spyware removal tool on both. In addition I am running Webroot spyware removal tool on both and AOL spyware removal tool (which is due to expire soon.) All utilities run daily on both machines separately. Automatic updates for Windows is enabled on the HP because my husband can't be bothered with updates. On the Gateway I have the alerts enabled with the option to download and install windows updates at my discretion.

About two months ago, despite all the security software I have in place, two Trojans were discovered in the Gateway machine. Stupid... Read more

I have a problem very similar to the one described in julian06's 01/09/08 post. Windows Explorer crashes at least 1X/day. Sometimes just after Windows starts up. Even though I haven't a clue what they mean, I always look at the reports that are generated. Here is what I consistently see:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.3119 Offset: 00009783

also:

The following files will be included in this error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\3a68_appcompat.txt

The first 4 digits after "\Temp\" varies but the " _appcompat.txt" does not.

From time to time, including this morning, I also get DrWatson Debugger Post Mortem error messages. When this happens there is nothing for it but to manually shut down the computer-which I hate doing. I am unable to send the error report that is generated but I can read it. It always shows the same thing:

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\werbe33.dir00\drwatson32.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\appcompat.txt
(I think I got these right, I had to hand write them and I was in a hurry to see if Windows would boot.)

Whenever I open another application, my desktop icons blink off (revert to that odd little generic icon with the red and blue dots on it), hang, and then struggle back on, one or two at a time. It is usually at this point that Windows Explorer ... Read more

This only happened recently. The first time I just shrugged it off; errors happen occasionally.
However, today I got the same problem again. I forgot what I was doing the first time, but today I was opening a zip file with 7-zip. After it posted "Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close" etc etc, I checked the detailed logs. I tried to copy and paste but apparently the clipboard died, but I did get the part where it said the error concerned oleaut32.dll.

After the error window closed, the computer locked itself and I had to manuall end explorer. Then it started loading, and then another error window popped up, this time saying Dr. Watson's Postmortem Debugger encountered an error and needs to close.

This happened only recently and I don't remember getting any suspicious files. If someone can help me resolve this annoying issue it would be greatly appreciated

Everytime I go into sub-directories my windows explorer freezes. If I go to task manager and end the explorer.exe, I can open a new one and everything runs fine until I go back into certain sub-directories. If I just sit for about 3 minutes and don't close the explorer.exe, Dr Watsons Postmortem Debugger comes up with an error and asks if I want to send the error information to Windows. This happens everytime I go through sub-directories in windows explorer. It seems to happen when I go into big folders, I went into a folder that has alot of sub-directories with .iso files and alot of other archive files. The other sub-directory folders I have problems with are on another physical drive which has alot of video files. I used the chkdsk utility with windows on both drives. I can explore the folders if I was to use another programs file browser and nothing will freeze.

I updated my AV and my anti-spyware scanner. I use AVG 7.0 for my virus scanner and I use the windows anti-spyware scanner. I use the windows SP2 firewall. I ran the Tuneup Utilities 2006 program. I ran the diskcleaner, registry cleaner, registry defrag, and system optimizer. Nothing helped. I went to system restore and it won't let me go back to the month of September. This problem started about 3-4 days ago, I uninstalled all the programs I installed during that period. Also, when I first formatted this drive and installed windows(which was about 2 weeks ago) I was using the Administrator login be... Read more

Answer:Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger/windows explorer

You should use another file exploration utility like xplorer2, windows explorer is simply horrendous. I'm not sure if theres a freeware adaptation of it. If this is not an option, you can force windows explorer to reload by opening the task manager and terminating the drwtsn32.exe process (there will usually be two when Dr.Watson crashes, end the one that is taking up less memory) and Dr.Watson and Windows Explorer will function until the crash reoccurs (which it will).

Also, you might want to divide a folder with lots of files in it into numerous directories, it puts less stress on windows explorer. If the archives are in the .zip format, see if you can get a copy of WinRAR and put them in the RAR format. Or you could use 7zip, thats free.

Hello my friends,

I activated the ctrl alt disable login screen for Windows 10 by using this registry key from this forum.(Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums).

I downloaded and installed the key to disable only to find it didn't work so I tried to manually do it by changing the number from 0 to 1 only to find its already at 1.
I also tried going the user passwords2 to find the box to disable ctrl alt disable login is already ticked, but is greyed out meaning I can't untick the box.

Help I did try everything i could find on the internet, but to no avail.

Hello TheBlackRussian,

That tutorial is for disabling the lock screen itself instead. The lock screen cannot be disabled if you have the CTLR+ALT+DELETE secure sign-in enabled. If you wanted to keep the lock screen, then be sure to enable it again before doing the tutorial below.

You'll want to use the tutorial below instead to only disable secure sign-in.

Scenario; I use auto hide for the taskbar. I am using program 'x' in full screen when program 'y' sends a notification in the background - one I do not need to see or know about incidentally.
This causes the taskbar to pop up, and stay up, in my way until I click on it. It covers crucial parts of the program I'm using in full screen until I dismiss it. With a program like say Skype or Discord as program 'y', this is happening every few seconds, every time someone sends a message. It is maddening.
I need a way to totally disable the taskbar popping up every time anything happens in any other program that is running. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi all,

I am new here and I am an IT Network Administrator. My company requires me to make my users to use a wireless client software, instead of the WZC (Windows Wireless). I am a domain controller and I was wondering, is it possible to somehow disable the uninstallation / reinstallation of the program for my users? I need to give them full administrator rights, but I cannot allow them to uninstall this software. Could someone please help me out?

I would also like to ask a few questions:

1. Is it possible to lock the wireless profiles in WZC to prevent changes to them? If it is possible, how do I do it?

2. Domain Controller, can I prevent users with administrator rights from reactivating WZC after I disable it? If so, how do I do it?

3. How do I run programs at shutdown, without elaborate steps? Editing the registry, or putting the file somewhere? I need my backup program to run at shutdown when I click the shutdown button in windows.

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what to do with this so I can disable the grammpa slow pf usage ?

Windows XP 32 bit, SP 3,

Intel 2 Duo Core E8800 3.16 GHz

2 gigs Corsair 800 speed ram. (Not In full use) grrr.

Answer:Want to disable Page file, Strange Program.

M3guy you can do it through System Properties.

Although I would try setting it to a static size first and see if that helps out. Alot of times if the page file is the culprit for a slow PC is because:
A) your page file is fragmented all over drive

or

B) The OS is changing the size to what it wants it be. To fix that...

1) Right click on My Computer and goto Properties. Select the Advanced Tab. Goto Settings.

2) On that screen select the Advanced Tab and click Change.

3) Select the drive that you have your page file set on and select Custom Size. Normally you will want to set it to one size for both Initial & Maximum Sizes. The size should be 1.5 times the size of your RAM. So if you have 4 GB of RAM you would want 6144 for the Initial & Maximum sizes.

I tried to search the answer around the web without a positive result.
I've a customer where we're running a windows 7 machine with something like a supervisor software

Over the same machine (windows 7 x64bit) I've configured a standard screensaver using the built-in option inside windows.

The question is: how can I setup the screensaver in order to stop it everytime the supervisor software goes in alarm ?

Thinking about the same situation with Outlook, how can I setup the screensaver in order to stop it evrytime I receive a new email ?

Thanks in advance for your feedback

Hi all
I'm new here, and I would like to ask a few questions.

1. Is it possible to lock down a profile in WZC (Windows Wireless)? I am a network administrator and I would like to lock the company's wireless profile to the top of the list, and to prevent deletion or editing. The computers are on a domain fyi, and they must still have administrator rights.

2. Is it possible to disable the uninstallation of a program? I need to disable the uninstallation of a software that our company needs, while still allowing users to have administrator rights. Again, these computers are on a domain, and the user has a administrator account. Is it possible to change program uninstallation rights to only allow the domain administrator to uninstall the program? Or is it possible to edit the registry or something? I only need the restriction to this program.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, lately I have been having a problem with my OS. I recently just reformatted my hard drive, because of the problem I am having, just to have it come back on me.

The problem I am having is with my Windows Explorer and Dr Watson PostMortem Debugger. Every 20-30 minutes, I will get the messages (2 of them) for, "Windows Explorer has encountered an error and must close", and, "Dr Watson PostMortem Debugger has encountered an error and must close".

Again, this is the reason I reformatted in the first place. I know it's not a virus doing this (At least, I hope it's not, as I just reformatted).

If anyone can help, or tell me what it is that is causing it, it would be very much appreciated.

Hi, I've had this problem for almost a week, and I've tried all the different spyware scans and virus removal tools I've used in the past, and nothing has fixed the problem, so I need help. It isn't a debilitating problem, because I can work around it, but it is a major pain.

Here's the problem. It seems that whenever I try to play most video files, media player has an error that requires it to close, and shortly after windows explorer has an error that requires it to close. Whenever I open a folder with video files that are in thumbnail mode, windows explorer has an error. Whenever I right-click on the files to open in another program or change properties, windows explorer gives me the error "Data Execution Prevention: To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program. Windows Explorer." I am still able to play the files and change the properties, but the error keeps coming up, and causes the desktop to refresh, etc. This error also occurs whenever I try to access files on a disc, or my external hard-drive. This error never happens for anything except video files. Anything else (audio, text, exe) work fine. Also, twice, the Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger error has come up, which causes the computer to lock up entirely. I tried researching the problem, and it seemed that the only thing that causes the Dr. Watson error is the Acebot trojan, and although some of the symptoms seemed to coincide with the description, I don't... Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Based on the description of your problems, I tend to doubt it is a malware problem. The only true way to know is to have you running are standard cleaning procedure that I will give below. BUT FIRST, you must uninstall one of your antivirus programs. You have AVG and Symantec installed. One must go now (preferably Symantec).
Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThisMake sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following or... Read more

Hi

A while ago I had a virus/malware problem which was then resolved. The problem caused by Windows explorer to crash and gave me a BSOD when I tried to log in

BSOD after removing virus
Then just a couple of hours ago I had google Chrome open as well as 'My documents' folder and suddenly received the message that 'Windows explorer has encountered an error and needs to to close, followed by a similar messsage from 'Dr Watson debug manager' I pressed CTRL alt del since my screen was frozen and found that the 'MY DOCUMENTS' folder listed as 'not responding' However then the task manager froze as well and then I was forced to do a manual shutdown by switching the power off
I then restarted my PC and launched Chrome to search for some answers but about 1/2 hour in I received a BSOD
I have completely avoided the same sites that I was on when I was previously infected so I'm not sure if this is being caused by a remant of the previous infection or if my Windows Explorer is corrupted

As I mentioned in my previous thread after my very 1st infection the visual border around status windows such as the task manager changed visually so that they appeared like they were running in safe mode (they no longer had smooth edges/borders and instead had sharp pixellated borders) This remained after my deinfection but apparently caused no problems

I am posting this from a different PC and I will now attempt to get the logs from the affected PC

Answer:Windows Expplorer /Dr Watson debugger crashes + BSOD

Hi again

It took a while because of the diffiuclty I had in getting a GMER log

I ran DDS just fine and then ran gmer. Everything was going fine when about 7 hours in I moved the mouse (didn't click anything) and it crashed and my mouse bcame disconnected (light went off).

I plugged my mouse back in and pressed ctrl alt del to but the task manager 'failed to initialize' so I had to switch the power off and reboot. I ran it agin and this time it completed and I saved the log.
However when I clicked the txt file to verify its contents I received the error message 'insufficient system resources' to open the file. I then pressed ctrl alt del and received the same message so yet again I had to switch the power off manually (screen had frozen) and reboot

Heres the logs

Dear Sirs,

I have run aground with this issue. I generally am able to keep things clean and running rihgt, but last week I during my bi-weekly check using MBAM it encountered FakeBill.CourtCologne and its assocated files. This is a family computer, and I do the maintenance on it. The Virus came back twice more.

So I ran Spybot S&D, and it found several items that I dutifully deleted. I then rebooted in SAFEMODE and then reran MBAM again it found the same FakeBill.CourtCologne and its assocated files again....which I thought odd. Then ran Spybot again and more issues appeared, so I deleted them, but one was HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe with some subkeys...one being Debugger REG_SZ "C:\Windows\System32\naerkuje.bak". I tried to deletee it but it would not. It also found another directory C:\Avenger, which it deleted, and it came back so I renamed it Bvenger, and successfully deleted that directory. Reading about this I have come to find htere is an issue with the Prevx folks, but

I then followed some advice for the same problem from Tom's Hardware website in the forums for malware removal pertaining to Debugger files. ...my mistake started there.... I could not delete the registry keyHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe. I foll... Read more

Ok, after wrestling with this a little more after being informed it might be several days before someone would be able to get to me. I put on my thinking hat for a bit....the reason I could not delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe was a permissions issue. I opened Task Manager, and I went to File>New Task (Run)>regedt32.

I then navigated to the key, and in the left window HighLighted it. I then went to menu tab above and clicked on Edit>Permissions. This brought up the dialog box, Permissions for explorer.exe. In the top there was Everybody, then the Add / Remove buttons, then below the Permissions for Administration, and below that the Advanced button.

I clicked the advanced button. This brought up a Permissions dialog box with four tabs....in this case all I concerned myself with was the first one...Permissions. I highlighted Everybody in that display box in the tab, and then went to the button marked Edit beneath it. This brought up another dialog box called Permissions Entry for explorer.exe...the difference is it is EDITABLE. I clicked the box in the lower section marked Full Control..this will check all the other boxes, then Clicked OK, then OK again on the next dialog box, then OK one last time on the last dialog box...then highlighted the key again....and deleted it.

I then rebooted the computer. All my icons and start and task bars ret... Read more

Hiya

The Windows debugging facility provides a means for programs to
perform diagnostic and analytic functions on applications as they
are running on the operating system. One of these capabilities
allows for a program, usually a debugger, to connect to any running
program, and to take control of it. The program can then issue
commands to the controlled program, including the ability to
start other programs. These commands would then execute in the
same security context as the controlled program.

There is a flaw in the authentication mechanism for the debugging
facility such that an unauthorized program can gain access to the
debugger. A vulnerability results because an attacker can use
this to cause a running program to run a program of her choice.
Because many programs run as the operating system, this means
that an attacker can exploit this vulnerability to run code as
the operating system itself. She could take any action on the
system including deleting data, adding accounts with
administrative access, or reconfiguring the system.

A successful attack requires the ability to logon interactively
to the system, either at the console or through a terminal
session. Also, an a successful attack requires the
introduction of code to exploit this vulnerability.
Because best practices recommends restricting the
ability to logon interactively on servers, this
issue most directly affects client systems and terminal servers.

This computer is at a remote office that is only used 2 days a week. Last Thursday I started the computer up and the windows xp theme was not there, it was the classic windows theme and the xp theme was not selectable. I also started getting redirected when clicking on google links and the windows debugger keeps popping up and crashing. I have run AVG, adaware, spybot S&D and nothing has been successful. I can correct the xp them problem by manually restarting the theme service (which is set to automatic) and the debugger problem by disabling it in internet options; but these problems come back if I restart the computer. I have disabled the PCA using BOTH methods described everywhere. Stoping and disabling the service "program compatibility assistant service" as well as entering gpedit.msc and changing the setting for BOTH user and computer configuration, however when running Neverwinter Nights, it STILL comes up and refuses to run the program. Yes, I have rebooted the computer several times after the changes, and made sure the settings did not revert to original settings, but even with these changes made, it still tells me the program is blocked and am given the choice to search online for a solution (none) or cancel. It won't run. How do I tell this PCA, "Hey! This is MY computer, and if I wanna run something you think will crash me its MY business, because its MY computer, and I should be able to run whatever the h*ll I please!"
Well, you know what I mean.
p.s. I have also found a regestry entry somewhere on the Microsoft site that claims to disable it. It also does nothing.

I have application that I placed in the startup folder to start every time, including after power loss and recovery. But the app throws a UAC popup every time and I have to be here to say "OK" to get it t run. There isn't handy way to disable UAC for an app as far as I can see.

After a little research I found that I need to use the MS Compatibility toolkit to "fix" the app by checking "run as admin" and "run as invoker". I did that and it works in a test run with the MS Compat Toolkit running. But when I save it and close the toolkit, the settings seem to disappear and I have the same issue.

Does anyone have an idea how to set up a MS Compatibility Toolkit fix and save it so the fix persists after the toolkit is shutdown?

Why does this have to be so hard? Why doesn't MS provide a right click "trust this app" or somesuch??

I have some sort of infection with the following issues and would really appreciate your assistance:

1. When browsing the internet, occasionally a program called Just In Time Debugger will pop up asking me if I would like to debug with a new instance of Microsoft Office Script Editor. I haven't seen this before, some people give advice on how to turn the debugger off but as far as I can tell, all my settings are correct. I think it's related to my other issues.

2. The classic Google redirect. I search for something on Google and when I click on one of the links, it takes me to some random page.

3. My wireless Windows Zero Configuration keeps turning off and I am then unable to connect to the internet.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

First time on this forum, and looking for some help with a problem that's been happening for a while...

I built a new Athlon 64 system about 10 months ago. 6 weeks into the initial build, I got my first BSOD. I would average another BSOD every 3 weeks or so, with no apparent problems in between. The basic info for the machine is as follows:

Athlon 64 3500+ (Newcastle) w/stock HSF
Asus A8V Deluxe (Rev 2)
2x512MB Corsair VS PC3200 (2.5-3-3-8), dual channel
Enermax EG475P-VE PSU
2x160GB Hitachi 27K250 SATA in RAID0 on VIA controller
80 GB Hitachi 7K250 SATA on Promise controller
Plextor PX-712A DVD+-R/RW
Radeon 9600XT 128MB
SB Audigy 2

I put up with the problem for a while, but finally decided a few months ago to get serious about trying to fix it. Problem is, I can't recreate or predict the problem. I've run a number of different diagnostics...memtest, docmem, Prime95, CPU burn-in, Super PI, drive utilities, etc., and nothing reported errors or crashed the system. Never had a crash during gaming, either. The BSODs seem more likely to happen when the system is idling or at light load, actually, although I haven't find an identifiable pattern. About 2 months ago, I decided to start fresh with new drives and Win XP SP2. Made sure to get the latest drivers, BIOS, etc. I got about 4 weeks out of it before another BSOD, and have had several since--the fresh install didn't do the trick, either.

This past week, I've spent som... Read more

I am running Windows XP Media Edition (sp3) on a Dell PC.

This all started with random pop-ups of the Just in time debugger window (script). I do not have Visual on my PC, so not sure why this is happening. I have disabled in Explorer, but it still happens at random times. I tried doing a system restore to take care of this and the other problems, went pretty far back with no success.

The search engine redirect problem is manifesting itself in some interesting ways. I have had problems in Explorer (7), Safari (4) and Chrome. I have run Malware bytes, Superantispyware and Trend Micro system scans in normal and safe mode and computer comes up clean. I tried to delete Google Chrome but it will not allow me to, but chrome does not appear in my Add/remove programs window and I can no longer access it. I deleted safari and reinstalled, it still had the same problem in google and yahoo search (I have not tried others). I did disable some add-ons in explorer (based on some research I did on redirects on some other sites, (I try not to bother you guys unless I get into the really bad stuff...which it appears I am) and that seems to have taken care of the redirect problem but now when I open explorer I get a pop-up window that says: Cannot find "http://a bunch of symbols I can not recreate here/" Make sure the path or internet address is correct. I have gone back and individually enabled the add-ons I disabled to see if I could find out which one might be causing the probl... Read more

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.
GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in safe mode.-- If GMER crashes or keeps resulting in a BSODs, uncheck Devices on the right side bef... I consider Java -- or any other program which ASSERTS its right to take over my system, hog resources, and potentially become a vector for malignant code (xp) -- as a disease. Unfortunately, Java is a disease which occasionally is necessary and, under quarantined conditions, should be manageable. With that intro (I'm irritated at the moment, having been fighting to disable autostart of java for quite some time and not finding any answers on this question in my web searching), let me ask the questions:How do I disable Java's ability to autostart while keeping it on the system? Is there any program which can act to intercept any calls on Java and ask the users PERMISSION before allowing code to access Java?I would think these would be common questions and the need to keep Java chained would have been addressed long ago and be a widely known and desirable addon. However, web searches have brought up endless drivel on disabling java UPDATES but not disabling or, better yet, controlling Java access. Thanks for any help.

Answer:Disable Java automatic start/ automatic loading & control program access on XP

Hi,

Sorry if answered, but couldn't find. Is it possible to enable "display scaling on high DPI settings" while "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling" turned on?

I would like "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling" turned on so that I won't be needing to right-click every program's properties to disable "display scaling on high DPI settings", so that its text won't be blurred on most programs. But for this specific program, I need to enable "display scaling on high DPI settings" so that the program can function without having its words/buttons cut off. Unchecking nor checking the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" makes no difference unless "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling" is turned off, which then makes all programs's "display scaling on high DPI settings" enabled, leading to most programs having blurry text. Is this possible? Or is there a way to have "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" checked for all programs at once by default while having "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling" turned off? Thank you.

My DPI scale settings are at 125%

When choosing a program to open a file, in the 'open with' window, the option to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is selected on (ticked) by default. Please see highlighted and red circled part in the attachment. How can I make this to remain always deselected (unticked), so that I can select it only when I want to?

Answer:How can I disable "always use the selected program" function?

Hello Melita,

You could use either tutorial below depending on what you like best.Open With - Add or Remove "Always use selected program"

OR

"Always use selected program" - Always Checked or Unchecked
Hope this helps,
Shawn
