Preferred Solution: where to download cool desktop tamagotch

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I made a free tool(for those who have more than 15 icons on desktop) to arrange your desktop icons into shapes like hearts, circles, stars and so on. It gives a bit of freshness to your desktop, icons arranged into a cute heart on a good wallpaper looks really nice.

You can set the height, width and position of the shape on the screen. It also have a function that saves and restores icons position, useful for those who change resolution a lot.

I attached some screenshots to see what I'm talking about.

Hey, just was browsing thru the posts and got an idea...

How about a toys download category?

Just neat stuff, the misc. section has too much practicality... :}

like fractal progs, gimp, astronomical progs, just neat stuff that is really only meant for fun. gimp has uses, I know, but making crazy ass pictures is a definite "toy" use.

what say?

what's a geek w'out some cool ass toys? :]

Answer:toys software download section would be cool...

Tough to do, opens a can of worms, silly companies already submit stupid porn games and screensavers as it is.

Riddle me this. Elaborate more, I like the idea, I think it can fit in here and we would like to expand, but I dont think I am following you 100%

Oh, I am like a little Bill Gates, once I like your idea, I will steal it, delete this thread and say it was my idea.

I want to copy all my desktop windows ME to my laptop with ghost.

my best way will be wih my backup set made with ghost 2002

I expect some driver problems but is it easy or hard:

As once ive deleted the windows 98SE on my laptop ive got no way of geting it back as it was pree installed.

Answer:Desktop to laptop:cool:

It will probably be a disaster actually.

All drivers will be wrond as you suspect, and its entirely likely that the laptop will not even boot. If it does boot, you will be unlikely to get any reliable operation.

To ensure Windows 98 can be reloaded, use Ghost to back that up to an image file on the laptop?

I'm not sure if there is a similar post like this elsewhere on this site but I've seen the odd request for antivirus software so I've taken the time to write a list of free programs that I use (or have used) on my own pc for security.
AVG 6- Antivirus Free Version
Avast! Antivirus Home Edition-
Trojan/Malware Scanner
Spybot Search and Destroy
Adaware 6.0
Spyware Blaster
*note: make sure you get the latest version of spware blaster because i dont think the updater works unless they fixed it.

Zone Labs Zone Alarm
Sygate Personal Firewall

Answer:COOL COOL COOL...literally..

Congrats on your low temps. Is that at idle or full load, and how much does it increase when the CPU is actually working? That's the test of good cooling.

Sandra has a good burn-in routine to heat up your CPU.

I've never really seen the 'burn-in period' actually give you any better cooling. Maybe if you slather the AS on too thick, the fan vibration squeezes the excess out the sides and you then have a thinner layer and better contact.

I'm not familiar with HSFs, especially for A64 so I'll leave that for someone else to comment on.

I hope you can help me out.
I would appreciate it.

I have an Amazon Fire Stick.
I'd like to be able to stream some TV shows and Movies from (specifically) to my TV.

I found this site that seemed to tell me how to do this but I got stuck a couple places

I got stuck in this part of Sideload Apps to Fire TV section
"3. Download the Android?s app .APK file and remember it?s location within your computer. In terminal, type in,"
Wasn't sure what he meant by the Android's app .APK file.
I assumed it was Kodi (XBMC) so I tried to download that and found I needed a Chrome extension- APK Downloader which I got.

Then I got stuck trying to find the Android/GFS ID on my Fire Stick which is where I'm at right now.
All I can find is a Serial Number and that doesn't work.

Could someone, please, tell me how to do this or if there is another, easier way for a techno-dunce to accomplish the streaming I'd like to do?
Thank you

I've also posted this question in "The Internet" but it gets no traffic, so I'm posting here as well. I don't know if this is IE related, but the problem presents itself when downloading files from IE, so it's a possibility.

Yesterday, I installed Win2000 on a friend's computer (for various reasons I won't go into here, I first had to install DOS 6.22, then Win95, then Win2000). When I tried to download some programs (such as firewall) to her desktop, the download would progress nicely, but once it was finished, it would not show up on the desktop as I had asked it to. I checked the desktop folder (in documents and settings, for both "administrator" and "all users" - the only two options on this setup), and the file was not there. I searched for the file, and it was not to be found anywhere.

I tried downloading to the C: root drive, and that worked without problems. I can copy files to the desktop without problems. I can run programs and have them put files on the desktop (such as autoextractors). But download to the desktop - nope. I don't know if this problem is still present with the newest version of IE, but it was certainly present with the one that shipped with the Win2000 installation CD.

I know you're all going to tell me to verify if this problem is still present with the newest version of IE, but even so, I'm still curious as to what could be causing this. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Answer:Can't download to desktop

Well this probably doesn't relate to your problem at all, but you shouldn't have to install DOS or 95 before 2000...

Try creating a folder on the desktop and downloading stuff into that folder.

Hi, I have my laptop Dell 1454, running Vista home premium SP1 and decided to send downloads to the desktop. So a bit of research, and thought I'd set it up correctly.(and it's not too bad actually). However now I have a folder on the desktop called "Desktop". Not exactly what I wanted. I though, (as in the past) the download just goes to the desktop called whatever the download is.. eg. firefox setup. An icon appears on the desktop that says Firefox setup, double click and it will install. So where it all went wrong was, in the window where you select the folder to send downloads to.What I have in that menu bar is something like "C:\Users\1440 ImnoGuru\Desktop\Desktop". This string now, will not let me change it? (I can change it to another folder but not change the wording of the string.)I thought to delete the second "desktop" wording, might resolve the folder "desktop" and just have the downloads go to the desktop.I hope I have explained myself properly. So if someone can offer a solution to my problem I would be most grateful.Thank you ImnoGuru

Answer:how do I set up for download to desktop?

The way i have mine setup is i created a folder under C: called Downloads and pointed to that in the browser as the DLoad destination...then right clik the DLoads folder and create a shortcut to the Desktop for easy access. In your case you already have the folder on the Desktop...simply right clik it and rename it Downloads...or do the method above.

I read the "MUST read" sticky, but I can't download anything to my desktop, so I didn't follow the instructions. Sorry. I suppose I could probably just download into My Documents? Will HiJack run from there, or does it have to be on the desktop? (that question maybe reveals how much I know about this stuff...haha)

Here's my problem -- my husband opened something on our laptop a while ago that has messed up the desktop. I wasn't here when it happened, so I'm not sure exactly what he experienced. He told me later he "thought" it was a virus as our antivirus software (avast!) told him to close all programs, which he did, and then restart, which he did. But when the restart finished booting, all of the files that were on the desktop had disappeared. He "thinks" all of the program files that were there are still accessible through going Start menu > My Computer > C Drive > Program Files folder > specific program folder; but I'm pretty sure any documents we had on the desktop that were not duplicated in My Documents are lost. I can't find them anywhere, and the search function no longer works! I enter search terms, click "search," and nothing happens. No little flashlight, no sniffing dog, nothing.

Interestingly new programs I've downloaded since the incident all show up in the left side of the Start menu, which I thought was the desktop, but maybe it is just showing recently used? Their ... Read more

As my title states I cannot run any programs after download. I always save my files to the desktop to make them easy to find. After the download completes the icon to run the downloaded is not there. I can see it for a few seconds and then it disappers. This problem started a couple of weeks ago.

A little history:
A couple of weeks ago my system started running very slowly. I thought it had started this after an update from windows. I upgraded my AVG to the new version and tried to run a scan. My computer kept freezing up, so I decided to restore my system. I picked a date and restored. My computer has ran fine since then. Although, I now don't have AVG 9 and I cannot run AVG 8.5. I guess the files from 8.5 were deleted with the upgrade. This is getting really annoying. I like to download and play games on my computer and also I have no anti virus right now because I cannot download this either.

If anyone could helo I would REALLY apprecate it.

Answer:After Download Cannot Run Programs-Not on Desktop-Need Help!

I've seen some similar issues caused by installed firewalls (not Windows firewalls) -- so if you have one, try uninstalling it and using the Windows Firewall.

You should also fully uninstall AVG as that could be a problem. (personally I prefer the free version of Avast)

You can also test this issue in Safe Mode with Networking Support.

First, restart in Safe Mode if necessary -- (tap the f8 key promptly on startup and choose the Safe Mode option from the boot menu) or Normal mode

Run msconfig and select the "Services" tab. Check "Hide Microsoft Services" and then disable the rest. Also uncheck "load startup items" on the general page.
Now restart and test the issue at hand

If no problems, run msconfig and recheck half the disabled items on the Services tab. Test again. If the problem recurs, UNcheck half the items you just checked to narrow down the culprit.

If the problem didn't occur, check the other half, so all the Services are enabled -- proceed to do this on the startup tab as well.

Get the idea? You want to isolate the problem to a specific startup if possible.

Note: if you already have items unchecked under msconfig > startups and are in “selective” startup mode – you should note what these are before beginning. They will need to be de-selected again.

Shouldn't the .exe have been automatically placed in Program files? If this is an ME aberration, is there a fix? If Program Files isn't the correct place for the .exe, then where?

Answer:2 Desktop Icons Per Download

Hi Hermit - I'll attempt to elucidate a little. Generally you need to specify where to download stuff to. In my case it's a folder called Downloads on the second partition of my Primary HD.

It appears that your default download destination is Desktop so you will need to change that.

To reiterate, you are downloading files onto your Desktop, when you install you are left with 2 icons, one signifying the D/L'd file and one representing the installed package.

I cannot be more specific as I am unaware what Download Manager, (if any), you are using.

FWIW I've been using Fresh Download for a few years and it's pretty good

When downloading new applications online the setup does not always appear on the desktop, although the download window opens and indicates that all files have downloaded successfully. This seems to occur when the download option is only save rather than run. The operating system is Vista. I have been unable to find if the setup application anywhere else on the pc following a search. Currently I am trying to download a program called Twins Vision a photograph management system. Can anyone please help?

Answer:Download setups don't appear on desktop

At the start of the download, did you make sure that you browsed to your Desktop to set the Download location?

I think this is the right place to ask this...

I downloaded a flash bio upgrade from dell's website, because I have a Dell. I put it on my desktop and installed the bios and fallowed all the directions. Now, it won't let me delete it. Here is the exact message.

"Cannot delete (filename): It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the program and try again."

Now, I am the only username on this computer and there are no other programs opened. I opened task manager and there was nothing running. So, is there any thing in the registry I can do to delete this downloaded file, or is there something else? All the help I can get is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Can't Delete Download Off The Desktop

First I would try booting into safe mode and try to delete it. Hit your F8 key repeatedly at boot up and choose 'safe mode' when prompted.

If that does not work, there are programs I can suggest that will help you, but they may not be needed.

I am trying to download BBC iPlayer desktop in th UK. If I click the install button I get something like a revolving barber's pole and nothing else happens. I have Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit but I use IE8 32 Bit.

I didn't have a problem with my XP Computer using IE8 and I have posted on the BBC help forum. I have turned off NIS and that didn't help and it has been suggested that something is blocking the download, but what?

Yesterday I downloaded Windows Live Photo Gallery and there wasn't a problem there. When I click install for BBC iPlayer Desktop there isn't any traffic through my router.

Any thoughts please?

When I save an .exe file to my desktop, this is the error message:

"Could not be saved because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again or try to save to a different location"

I have no idea what they are talking about. I want to save the .exe to my desktop like I've done it a hundred times before with no problem then install the program to a designated location on my C/D drive.

Any suggestions?

I was told you cannot download email with the web mail I have in address is [email protected]
So I took the suggestion to sync it with my desk client which is the MS email client.
I still cannot see how to down load it to a zip drive or desktop.

Answer:Download Email To Zip Or Desktop

You need a 'proper' email client to do that peter, such as MS Office Outlook or the free Thunderbird. These support local folders so you can simply drag and drop stuff you want to keep locally. You can't do it in Mail.

Basically at some point I set my Windows 10 desktop as the place I'd like downloads to go to. Probably from FIREFOX. This has worked on other PCs but a bug emerged on this one.

The bug is that the desktop folder renames itself as DOWNLOADS. It retains the desktop icon but behaves as a downloads folder. The other downloads folder still exists with the proper icon. Like so --

Advice offered here didn't work. I say as much in the last comment.

Windows 10 desktop renamed "downloads" - Microsoft Community

One of the comments said an MS Tech (?) simply readjusted the name and fixed it. Do you know how I could do that? I followed the advice and it didn't work.

Answer:Download/Desktop folders BUG

I've never liked the default of Desktop with Windows and downloads [goes back a ways], gets too crowded. I created a new Folder on the desktop name Desktop and so far no change after saving data to it. Firefox does have a setting that can be changed as to where downloads are saved, great for newer computers with small-capacity C:/OS drives.

When trying to change download location for "downloads" on both firefox and IE 11 the desktop option is missing, Just does not show .

Answer:Download to Desktop option missing

If your download folder is missing under Favorites in Windows Explorer, right-click on folders in the left navigation pane and select Restore favorite links. This will restore all the default links.
I will post a tutorial on how to change download locations tomorrow for all browsers. Stay tuned.

I have a three screen array (two 20" on each side and a 24" in the center) and I found that most background images were either too small or distorted. So I created several panoramic images using Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and used them as my own background images. A couple are actually just images cropped to 55x11 but most are amalgamations of several photo's into one panoramic image.

I thought maybe there are others who have the same problem and decided to see if anyone else might enjoy my wide screen images. These work best in "stretch" mode. They were cropped to about 55x11 (some are 58x12)

These are my own photographs and you are welcome to use them for personal use only. I'm still an amateur photographer so no royalties yet (toying with the idea of getting good enough to go pro, but that's still years away).

Most photo's were taken in Alberta Canada and since I live out on the plains lots of "big sky" pictures. There are a few snow shots as we have snow for almost half the year.

If you are able to download this theme and use it, please post a reply, I've have no idea if I did the settings correctly at but I think I followed all the steps to allow people to download this theme.

Answer:Three Screen Desktop Theme to Download

I tested the link, be careful to download my file (it is 54.9 MB) on my rural satellite internet download time is a few (4 minutes). Watch you don't hit the big orange DOWNLOAD button or you may be installing the setup program, which you may want to do if you want to share files on line, but it won't get you my file. That is the smaller blue "download" towards the right side of the screen.

My test download worked. It comes up compressed but Win8 takes care of that.

Do let me know if you like it.

I've connected my MotoG3LTE smartphone to my Win7 desktop PC using the micro USB-to-USB cable, and set that to 'Transfer Photos'(PTP)'. Windows Explorer shows my Moto3G device, with an 'Internal Storage' folder (with 3.9 GB occupied) and subfolders DCIM and Pictures, but neither of these subfolders displays any content at all. If I reset the USB connection to 'Transfer Files', Win Exp shows the same Internal Storage folder (with 3.9 GB occupied), and with 15 subfolders. Several of these, including 'estrongs' and Android', show sub-subfolders, with content. But subfolders 'DCIM' and 'Pictures' are both empty, with 0 bytes and no folders or files. A techie from Consumer Cellular, my phone service provider, was unable to solve this problem. He said that something in Win 7 is 'hiding' the content of these files from view. I surely can't be the first smartphone user to encounter this problem. If someone knows how to over come it, please let me know. !!!

Runing Win XP SP2

Here is my problem. Few days ago, my notebook went crazy. First of all, all of my desktop icons are gone, except for recycle bin. Desktop is now located in: C:\Users\*my_name*\Desktop.
All programs from start menu are gone too. First i thought it was a virus or a trojan, so i tried to download some antispyware programs, but it always gives me error message "internet explorer cannot download xxx(name of the program)...." as an explanation it says that "IE was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
So i copied Hijack this from my friends notebook, and run a scan. below are the results.
One other thing is my desktop. I can't change the background picture, just the color which turns back to light blue after every restart. Also, after restart theme always turns to "modified theme", and keyboar turns to USA (I'm from Croatia)

Answer:Help me download video from YouTube to Windows 8 desktop

There are various freebies about for this purpose but be aware that it is hard to find one without unwanted goodies or malware. I use YouTube Downloader but have to remove things afterwards. One I haven't tried that might be safer is an add-on to Firefox - supposed to be safe. You would obviously have to have that browser though, if only for YouTube downloads. This online one ought to be safe but I've never tried: Google finds plenty more, use search string "online youtube downloader".Although many folk do this I'm not entirely sure about the legalities so must leave that aspect for you to check out.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Anybody have a working download link or maybe have a copy of it?

Hi there,

I have vista home premium on a vaio vgn-nr38e, pentium dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz, 2GB RAM, Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset family.

Laptop has been a bit funny since the HD was replaced a couple of weeks ago. The guy who replaced it added office 03 & reinstalled some other applications. The trouble all started this morning when MS office 2003 kept trying to configure, couldn't download anything & trying to start any programme just triggered the configuration box & announcement of sku011 missing file error. Tried system restore, etc. nothing worked. Eventually managed to get around that by updating to the office 07 from disk that the laptop came with.

Nearly all my desktop items won't work now although I can download files, despite specifying the location the file should be saved in, it isn't there when I look, hence why I can't give a hijack this log. But they won't uninstall due to missing components so I can reinstall either.

Opera won't start, it says there is a module 9 error but I've checked the fix Opere give & the .lng file name is spot on.

When I try to repair on uninstall:

-With ad-aware I get an "ad-aware installation package has stopped working" notice but the words are not aligned properly.

-With AVG I get:

Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: @AvgErrorCode_0x0253 %FILE% = "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8"
-Firefox has a "in... Read more

Answer:Desktop items have missing files & can't download anything - help!

I think I got it covered. Downloaded the installations on another computer & transfered them to disc then installed them on the laptop from there. A few installations & removals & several virus checks and a quick spin of the Vista recovery disc & things seems to be working well again...fingers crossed!

Hey, everyone!

I was just wondering if it is possible to, when downloading stuff to the desktop, change the default position of where they go to. For instance, let's say that your desktop is empty, if you download something to it, the downloaded thing will appear at the top left corner of the desktop. What if I want it to appear in the middle of the desktop instead? Is it possible to do?

Thanks in advance,
- Nervly

Answer:How do I change the icon's position when I download to my desktop?

Hello. I downloaded BitLord like a moron without looking into it first, and the moment the download began, stuff started installing into my computer at random like a shady looking version of norton and a weird browser called Chromium.
It blocked my Malware Bytes from updating, but I ran ADWCleaner and it removed seemingly everything new that was installed. I ran Malware Bytes again and it found a ton of files and quarantined them. Everything as far as I could tell it fine now. But I'd rather be safe.

I have checked permissions of my download folder.
I have run Windows repair in case something went haywire.

Whatever I download...I have to drag the set up .exe to my desktop.
Only then can I install the program.

Otherwise I get the windows cannot find the file, path, or drive error.

I sure would appreciate some help with this. I am normally a good problem solver.
But this has me stumped after weeks of reading and trying various suggestions.

Thank you.

Answer:Must Drag .exe from Download Folder to Desktop in order to install???

When I launch something, I right-click on it and select "Run as Administrator". See if that makes any difference.

I Had a Samsung Galaxy S5 - no problems at all seeing, rearranging, removing pics or copying them to my desktop,  I have a Alienware by Dell, its pretty fast because its a gaming computer. I use Windows 7 Ultimate, 16 gb.
I now own a Samsung Note 5 - I have only had it for 1 months.  When I plug into a USB port, change to File transfer OR picture transfer.  I then go to computer and see the Samsung, I double click and it shows folders, I double click or DCIM OR Pictures and it opens up then I see lots of squares with a red thing but I can not view the pictures.
I called verizon and after 1 1/2 hours with a level tech they told me to contact Samsung.  I did that and another hour later The Samsung tech told me to call or write to Microsoft.
I have checked for Windows updated, none offered
I have checked Samsung update, I even tried to download the newest USB driver for samsung.
See the Samsung icon and double click it then see a phone folder and click on that and get a blank page with a green line up top letting me know it is thinking and a hour glass by my mouse.
I believe it was opening  up with Microsoft Office 2010 when it did get that far.
I have rebooted my computer - probably 5 times.  I went into settings and put my phone back to reset and forced stop on some programs (per Samsung).
I also ran CCleaner on my computer.
Nothing works.
Anyone know how I can view and save pics on my PC?

So I have a problem with a fake update pop-up. It's the last thing that's left from something else, I do not recall exactly what it was, but Mobogenie does sound familiar. I wanted to download a program that allowed me to open a file (I thought it was some sort of text file I needed for a thesis in school, but it turned out to be a frikkin picture, so I got nothing for my troubles!), and apart for letting me open the file, it installed a bunch of other crap. It messed with my Chrome, and made their own search engine my primary. I removed all of it (using what little skill I have: basic search, CCcleaner and Norton Antivirus scan, and after that everything seemed fine.
However, I have these pesky pop-ups that tells me to download the latest updates for various programs, and I can't seem to find where this program is hiding?!
It pops up every now and then (I use Skype quite a lot, and it seems to pop up after I quit the program. Not always though.), and it's a greyish pop-up in the right-hand corner of my desktop. It says that there are new updates available, and it's clickable. I did click it once to see where it took me, and I landed on a download page for a bunch of crap. So no, it doesn't even send me to a fake Adobe/Skype page. I can click the "x", which I have been doing for a while now. I thought I would be able to find the .exe, but so far I've come up empty handed.I am on Windows 7 Ultimate, and this pop-up does NOT appear whilst browsing, it ... Read more

I've been having strange internet issues on my Windows Vista desktop computer. I have tried to talk to my ISP about it but they haven't given me any help that has resolved the issue.

On the Wireless Network Connection Status window next to "Speed" it fluctuates constantly and the signal also fluctuates constantly when it did not use to do this before and I am getting bad download speeds at times as well which also did not use to occur.

The signal will jump from "Fair" to "Very Good" a lot and will also say "Good" and "Poor" at times. The "Speed" on the Wireless Network Connection Status window used to say 130Mbps and would only fluctuate from 78 to 104 to 117 to 130 Mbps. But now it won't even do that and it will say 13.0, 65, 58.5, 52, 39, and more.

The download speed is being affected. I have tried unplugging my modem for one minute and plugging it back in. My ISP has sent new codes to my modem several times. There are no viruses or anything like that on my Vista desktop as I have scanned with MalwareBytes and SpyBot.

This seemed to start after I installed WinDirStat because my hard drive space was being taken up by nothing and I was trying to see what was going on. My free space used to be 209GB but now it is only 184GB and I have done nothing to it.

The device for the internet I am using on my Vista desktop is a Dell Wireless WLAN Mini Card 802.11n.

I don't want to restore to factory set... Read more
