Preferred Solution: How to get back Google Bar in Win7/WLM 2011

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How to get back Google Bar in Win7/WLM 2011

In Firefox go to Tools>Add-ons and look in the list and activate it or add it. Note that Thunderbird can import mail, contacts, and settings from microsoft mail programs that are on your computer. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I uninstalled Acronis TI 2011 from my pc and now Win7's Backup and Restore in control panel won't work. I reinstalled Acronis then selected Revert to Win7 system image restore create option. Which it did. Then I removed Acronis and restarted. After all that the tab in control panel labeled Back up and restore still won't open with out Acronis installed.
How do I fix this so it was like it was before I bought and installed Acronis TI ?

Answer:Acronis True Image 2011 corrupted Win7 Back up and Restore function

Hi Truckinguy, I had the same problem with mine when I removed it. It's a well known issue with Acronis. Did you create a system image while you had Acronis installed? If so you can restore the image, then before you attempt to remove Acronis re-enable the option to integrate Acronis into the Back & Restore Center then uninstall it. That worked for me anyway.

If you didn't create a system image there is an article I found. The bottom of the page tells you about the Backup Control panel issue.

Beware of Acronis "Leftovers" Issues - Wilders Security Forums
But it does involve editing the registry. Which I would only recommend if you know what you're doing, as you could end up doing more damage.

I had all 3 of them. I ran mbam.exe by renaming it and i think it deleted 2 of them, but the redirect one is still there... it redirects me to various sites whenever i click a link after a google search.

Hello,

This is my son's college computer. He picked up Vista Antivirus 2011. It did not let him on the internet. It wouldn't let him run Symantec Anti-Virus or Malwarebytes. Yesterday, I ran rkill in all it's forms, only rkill.com and rkill.scr would run. In the black box, letters would quickly run across the screen, but the log always said that no processes were stopped.

So I activated the administrator account to see if it would work there. Rkill still acted the same, but I could now get on the internet to download, update, and run Malwarebytes. Three hours later it had picked up 6 items. My son desperately needs this computer right now, so he asked for it back so that as soon as Malwarebytes finished, he could get back to work. He soon called and said that the virus was back, but now it had morphed to Vista Total Security 2011. Now he said that in addition to the fake scans and security alerts, his computer has forgotten where everything is. He had to find the program and open it with itself before it would open. I think he means that when he clicks on an icon an "open with" pops up.

So I have the computer back again. I have run all the scans in the Preparation Guide, with a few problems:

1. When I click in the control panel to enable the firewall, the Windows Security Screen pops up and says that Vista Total Security 2011 reports that it (the firewall) is temporarily turned off. Then it says "show me the firewall programs o... Read more

Can I revert back to Version 2009 of WLM from Version 2011?I really getting a wee bit peed off with trying to get Win 7 and WLM2011 working as intended. I am finding it impossible to transfer details from the 2009 version to the 2011 version mail, and am left with creating all my contacts one by one. Absolute garbage. I have asked for help, from their web site, and they give ways of doing it which bear no relationship to what comes up on my machine. I am asked to click buttons that do not appear, the same applies to trying to get the IE8 pages darker so that I can see the detail. Again, I'm told to click on buttons that are no-existant.That aside, any ideas about getting the Contacts transfered from an XP SP3 machine Version 2009 WLM to a Win 7 64bit version 2011 WLM machine?ThanksTonyV

I am considering upgrading my 18 month old Samsung RC710 Windows 7 laptop with 4 GB memory to Windows 8. The laptop has Acronis True image installed with regular images being created.
I have created a fresh Acronis image of ‘C’ as well as a Windows 7 image and also created a Repair Windows 64bit DVD. Both in the event of failed Win8 installation or a desire to revert back to Windows 7.
I welcome any thoughts on my reasoning?
My understanding that the current £24.99 offer of upgrade to Windows 8 does not include the ability for a DVD function or am I not reading this correctly? Also what are the implications of this?
What are the possible pitfalls in the upgrade as I wish to be prepared?

Hey all, seems my computer has contracted one of those fake antivirus spyware programs that's just trying to gain a purchase.
Ive been working at it for a while but have hit a brick wall. I finally found one of the main files(?) and after I cleared that off it hasn't opened itself. Still after I did that though Symantec is still reporting blocking hundreds of access attempts per hour. (at least Symantec is catching it now)

It's saying the stuff is located in my temp folder.
Note: I have already run TFC, malware bytes, spybot, and symantec...Malware/spybot found the bulk of the virus but there are still some picky files they couldn't grab which I guess is re-downloading the rest of it or something.
I would love any help.
Thanks, Adam.

So this fake anti-virus program called Win 7 Antivirus 2011 installed itself on my husband's computer. We managed to get rid of it through Spybot, a system restore, and Malwarebytes. Or so we thought. A few hours later, it was back on his computer. He did NOT go to the same websites that he had, so I don't think that was the issue. He also made sure to go through the registry and make sure every trace of the program was gone. How do we get rid of this stupid thing?

Then while browsing in Mozilla, it suddenly shuts down and the security notices start popping up.
I tried restoring to a date before this started...everything was fine for a day then it started up again.

Hi - I've just upgraded to 2011 and carried out a back up to an external hard drive. I validated it, but instead of the description changing to, 'The back up is valid', it hasn't changed from, 'The back up has successfully completed'.Am I missing something? I did try a couple of times. Thanks

Yet another Acronis question: with 2010, when a backup started, a reasonable duration was shown. Even if it started at 12 hours (say), it then settled down to two hours or whatever. Why does the 2011 version display something like 46000-odd days, 19 hours, 47 minutes and then move up and down rapidly from these figures? I've only just upgraded and don't know I have enough time for a coffee or if I can prepare a four course meal from scratch! My other half has the upgrade on his laptop and it behaves normally.

Answer:Acronis 2011 and duration of back up

I have found this problem but only during the validation stage. My hard drive contains about 55GB and I get an estimated backup time of about 21 minutes during which the validation starts with an estimated 'thousands of days, hours and minutes'. It only actually takes between 5 and 10 minutes usually so not a problem. You will probably get a wider response to this issue from the Acronis Forum. click here

So I've been trying to get rid of this nasty for a while. It appeared yesterday morning, and after deleting appdata\local\bww.exe and modifying the registry entries preventing exes from running, it still came back this morning and again this afternoon.

I tried to run DDS, however; my computer does not know what to do with the DAT file so I was unable to receive a log from this.

I'm currently following this guide: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-internet-security-2011 and upon running RKill I got this log:

Hello,
My computer is in serious trouble. First, I was infected with the win7 security 2011 malware. An updated version of MalwareBytes AntiMalware seemed to take care of that. But the machine never quite recovered. It was impossibly slow, and kept freezing. Repeats scans with AntiMalware finally revealed pup.bitminer. I tried using AntiMalware repeatedly, to no avail. I've tried several tools (including ComboFix, which I now realize I shouldn't have run given my relative ignorance, and I'm very sorry...) and Firefox still redirects to bogus sites. If anyone can help, I will happily post any necessary logs, and refrain from doing any further bumbling on my own.

Thanks very much for your help!

HP Vista sp2

Upgraded to Windows Live Essentials 2011 installing only Messenger, Messenger Companion and Mail.

I updated our HP PC's video and audio chip sets (drivers, I think).

After restart of PC, I'm able to log onto Messenger. But if I sign out, I cannot sign back in again unless I restart PC.

I removed all traces, or so I thought, of ANYTHING "Live" related, restarted, ran Reg. Mechanic and restarted again. Downloaded Essentials 2011 again and re-installed the 3 programs. When it was turned on, my wife's name and password were already entered and the "Options Setup Wizard" did not appear to ask about if and what we wished to link, i.e. facebook link. It was already set up this way. I'm guess some form of "preferences" file remained, saving the log in info. (I'm used to my Mac and don't know what to call it for Windows)

If by miracle I have to appear as though I'm signed back in, I can receive IMs but not received.

Please, can anyone offer a remedy to fix this log in issue. My wife is going around the bend with frustration.

Do I need another program? Can the Log-in utility be updated or should it be downgraded? If you have an answer to my problem, please give details as I'm not all that familiar with Vista.

Thanks.

My sons netbook was infected with 'win7 security 2011'. I had AVG installed but it and Malwarebytes were stopped from opening up. I was able to uninstall AVG and install Avast antivirus on the netbook and through a bootscan, I was able to detect and remove a number of infections.
I got Malwarebytes to open but not update. I scanned and removed a couple of infections which appeared to remove this Win7 infection. However, now this netbook can still not connect to the internet via wireless or ethernet connection.
I contacted my internet provider and was able to reset the winsock. This did not change the ipconfiguration to allow the netbook internet access, the ip address would still set to the incorrect ip address, not that of the modem. After other attempts with my provider, they determined that they could not longer help me and the problem was in the netbook and not the modem. My other computers are connected to the internet, just not this netbook.

After I copied the sysinfo I see that AVG is still listed, but not that I can see in the programs section of the control panel. The Avast symbol is seen down by the clock of the lower right of the monitor.

I have followed the directions I found here several times and the problem returns.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-antispyware-2011

My operating system is Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.

The anti virus I am using is Microsoft Security Essentials.

I am not sure if this is related or not but I also getting redirects on google searches.

Like I said I have been following the directions at the link above but the problem keeps returning.

It is not affecting me now but I expect it to be revisiting me again soon based on past experience.

Each time after I try and remove it my anti virus is damaged and I have to uninstall then reinstall it.

Since it keeps coming back after I have Malwarebytes remove it I assume it is not being completely removed?

Are there any other directions anyplace?

Answer:Fake Win 7 Internet Security 2011 keeps coming back.

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

TDSSkiller - How to run

Then you should follow through with the below.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash ... Read more

so what the heck, is cyberlink in cahoots with the media industry? should I not be able to run a 2011 bluray disk via powerdvd7.3 and have to chuck 100 bucks to get this working again? I have been able to run bluray in this version before (Terminal Salvation). I'm sorry I don't keep up with updates and just expect things to work, crazy consumer I am. It's not a defective ROM this LG CH08NLS10, so you can get that out of your pretty little heads right now ? is there any wonder why I haven't gone all Highdef yet? what' could be wrong? I wanna watch Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher get it on!!!! Waahhhh!!

Answer:CONFUSED: can't run bluray disc made in 2011 in powerdvd 7.3 via win7

what error are you getting? I had an issue with this myself, newer blu-rays have copy protection on them called HDCP, which prevents them from being played on many computers. I found that running AnyDVD from SlySoft in the background removes this protection, the only thing short of getting new HDCP hardware that seems to do the trick.

I purchased my B520 in December and for 2 months I was convinced that it was the best PC that I've ever owned. Then I had a issue (Blue Screen of Death), called into Lenovo service and the service rep determined that the motherboard went bad. After a week they sent out a tech to install a new board. It crashed during bootup. On the advice of the service rep, I sent the unit to the Lenovo repair depot. They received the unit on 3/5/2012. Today is 3/12/2012 and I still have no idea what they are doing to repair the unit. I have called multiple times and it seems that no one really know what is happening with it. One person said there was no issue with it and they would send it back. I pointed out that the motherboard was replaced and it still didn't work. He then said that he would have them "take another look". I waited until this morning to call back and this time the person told me that I needed to send in additional things like the "battery??. .huh?" etc. I told him that it was an "all-in-one" and he said "oh, sorry". After being on the phone for 20 min with this person, I asked to speak with a supervisor. He said that none was available, then, instantly said that one was available and he would transfer me. I waited on hold for another 16 min before hanging up...no one ever answered the call. What is the best path for me to follow to get my machine fixed or my money back???

I briefly tried Windows Live Mail 2011 after having used the 2009 version since it was released. I had one problem, however. When I used the export email option to back up my email to an external hard drive, it didn't copy all of my email over. I selected the option of all folders, so what's going on here? This never happened with the 2009 version. I guess a work-around would be to copy the storage folder over to the external drive, but the export option should work. Any ideas? Thanks.

Firefox 4 Release Pushed Back to Early 2011

Quote:

We've been keeping a close eye on the betas for the newest version of Firefox, from the first beta that got us excited to the most recent iterations that keep on improving. However, it seems it's not improving fast enough?Mozilla, originally planning for an official Firefox 4 release in late 2010, has now pushed the release date back to sometime in early 2011. So, if you're looking for a more stable (and add-on compatible) version of Firefox 4, complete with its speed improvements, UI redesign, HTML5 support, and other numerous improvements, you may have to wait a bit longer. Check out the Firefox 4 Beta Wiki for more info on the new release schedule.

Answer:News: Firefox 4 release pushed back to early 2011

Ah man, I was waiting for this. I know firefox had to update when I turned on my PC a couple minutes ago. This stinks, hope its good though.

Randomly - but frequently recently - I am unable to open either old or existing documents in WORD, Spreadsheets in Excel or emails in W.L.M. I have tried relaunching the programs, rebooting the PC and checkdisking the Hard Drive. Each time it seems to be the solution, and then the problem returns. Emails DO open, but with the body content as attachments.

Answer:How restore functionality to Office2007 and Window Live mail 2011 in Win7 Ult 32

Word and Excel files do not, and never have, opened "in" WLM.  If you double click on such a file that is attached to an email, this should launch Word or Excel and the file should open in the applicable program, not in WLM.  Are you saying double clicking on an attachment does not cause it to launch the applicable program and open the file?

okay, so i am new to this forum and honestly only joined to see if i cant get a little help with a problem i am currently facing with the Google Redirect virus. i have tried malwarebytes as well as the tool from kaspersky labs. kasperskys tool seemed to work until i rebooted the comuter. at which point the file was back and my outgoing data was being redirected again.

it all seems to be redirected to 193.105.154.217 or 193.105.154.207 or 193.105.154.210 i dont know if this is helpful but its what ive got at this point.

ive done a full, flash, and quick scan with malwarebytes to no avail. normally i scan about once a week and find minimal errors. but this seems to have just cropped up recently and i would like some assistance or guidance in removing it.

-thank you for being patient

-edit-

Thank you for volunteering to help computer users. I had the AV protection 2011 virus, and also redirection of Google searches. I stopped the AV Protection 2011 by doing a System Restore, but some of my files are probably still corrupted. Also the Google redirect problem is still happening. I read about TDSS Killer here on the forum. I downloaded it, but it will not run. I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran it. It said that it fixed a lot of things, but I still have the Google redirect problem.

Hi there! First let me thank you for providing this website and these forums. I know it takes a lot of volunteers to make this site run and I appreciate all of your hard work.I believe I have two viruses/malware/whatever they are on my computer that I can't seem to get rid of. About 3 months ago, I began to notice that every single time I used Google to do an internet search, the first result I clicked on would always redirect me to some random site that had nothing to do with my search. If I hit the back button and then clicked on the exact same result, I would then be taken to the actual legitimate website I was searching for. I honestly did not think anything about this at first as I am less than computer savvy and did not suspect a virus. Since I have been researching it over the last few weeks, I believe it may be a virus. This week I tried to use Bing instead of Google but still had the same redirect experience.I also have a second issue but I do not know whether it is related to the Google redirect or not. About 2 weeks ago, I ran a Google search for the Ellen Degeneres Show. I clicked on the Google result, was redirected to a random site, hit the back button, then clicked on the link again. At that point, a balloon popped up in the bottom right hand corner of my screen that said "Your computer may be at risk. Automatic updates is turned off. Click here to fix the problem." Like an idiot, I clicked on the balloon and immediately Windows S... Read more

Redirect virus that happens in Google, Internet Explorer. Tried several attempts to remove it. It went away for a day, and then returned. I tried several spyware and malware removal programs, but none have worked. I use Vipre as my antivirus program. Malwarebytes did not find a problem, nor did AVG. Cannot log into Facebook, Youtube, and other sites. When logging into FB, I get the message, "Internet Explorer has stopped working...". My wife's pc is having the same redirect problems, but so far she can log into FB and Youtube. Tried Gmer, even in Safe Mode, after several minutes of a scan, it crashes to BSOD. First off thank you for taking the time to read and try to help.
I have a desktop Windows XP Professional , and only had MSE. My mom first noticed
a red X saying our computer was not protected and firewall was off, but we would go to
control panel and click on the windows firewall and it was on. That was the first strange
thing, then she googled something and it redirected her to 'datingpuma.com' the funny
thing about that was when the page would come up it took a while then looked like a java
website. So we freaked out. Ran scans from MSE several times during that day and it kept
telling us about
'Java/CVE-2011-3544.N' it said it was removed but an hour later and it found it again.
this happened alot.
I ran vipre rescue, Msnet, MSE scans.
Right now the java issue does not come up but now the computer is really slow and takes
forever to startup. I tried spybot and that found a few 'threats'. right now (this might
be doing more damage than good...) we have MSE, Spybot, and SUPERantispyware. free edition.
Google is still being redirected. And Im getting worried my computer is just going to
stop working. a few hours ago I turned it off and when I pressed the bottom button to start
up it took 15 minutes I couldn't hear the fan running or anything but the start up light was on.

I hope something is not seriously wrong but you never know with computers. Anyway thanks in advance!

Hello,

Recently I got infected by a malware called "superantispyware 2011" which kept redirecting my google links as well as instilling pop-ups on my computer saying it's been "infected". I came onto this site and followed the instructions to remove this malware by using rkill and Malwarebytes. However, whenever I use Rkill, 3 pop-up errors saying" installation failed" keep coming up. Even when I get the rkill window to come up, it gets stuck on "preparing rkill". I somehow managed to stop the malware pop-ups, but my anti-virus software (AVG Security) still says that I am infected with malware, and I am unable to get rid of those pop-up messages. Google redirect still takes place, so I know for a fact that even though the malware pop-ups are gone, my computer is still infected. Malwarebytes or Kaspersky is also unable to track anything at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Posted below is my DDS log:

Been having the Google redirect issue for a couple weeks. All of a sudden yesterday, the XP Anti-spyware issue kicks in and goes crazy. Followed instructions from This Blog . After running malwarebytes this morning in safe mode, it "seems" that the anti-spyware is gone. But I still have the Google redirect and another situation I will ist below:Icon on start bar says automatic updates are turned off. This happens occasionally for some reason, and happened right before the antispyware issue yesterday. I clcik on it and it wont let me turn them back on. It apologizes, graciously, and explains I need to go to control panel/system and manually turn them back on. Thing is, when I go there, they are turned on. So... I am sure i am infected with something. Also, I seem to have both Mcafee firewall and Windows firewall running. Tried running firewall.cpl to turn off the windows one and a box pops up saying "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?" maybe that's normal, i dont know but right now I am scared to start anything. i am about ready to just format my hardrive again and start over, been awhile since i did that. I know I could easily follow the instructions for a similar thread, but I'm not computer savvy or confident enough to use something that isn't tailored specifically for my computer.

Awhile back, my computer started redirecting my google searches. The times were so few and far between that, at first, I thought nothing of it. It wasn't until earlier this week when one of the redirects crashed mozilla that I realized something was very wrong. A popup, saying something about Java 6 came up, followed immediately by mozilla crashing, and the infamous popup faux-scan that said my computer was infected.

I quickly rebooted in safe mode with networking, but MBAB would not open, nor would the System Restore. Rebooted without networking and it took about 20 minutes for System Restore to finally open. After a restore, I ran MBAB and a few things came up. It seemed as though I was free and in the clear, but a few days later, the same thing happened again, as the google redirects did not cease.

I'm afraid to even attempt to use google for anything, because I fear it happening again. Also, worth noting, though I'm not sure it has any correlation to the problem: my automatic updates do not seem to be happening on their own, when I search google images, only the first page of images load and the thumbnails do not enlarge when I hover; and when I boot the computer, a little flag comes up at the bottom that says windows has blocked programs from starting. I would really,... Read more

I would like very much for someone to check my logs to see if my wife was successful at removing malware I picked up.

Two nights ago I was browsing Facebook and StumbleUpon with Firefox when ads began to pop up in IE windows. I would like to point out that I don't recall clicking on anything. The only thing I can remember was clicking to hide a post on Facebook of the nature "I can't believe she killed herself after her Dad said that to her!" I usually hide those because they are obviously phishing/viruses/etc.

After the IE ads started to pop, "Windows security manager" popped up and said that I had viruses. I did not click on anything other than to close the windows. I tried to open Firefox and IE to figure out what was happening and both of them showed a screen "We can't let you access this webpage as it may be infected!" I turned the computer off and my wife started working on my machine in the morning. No, really, she's good.

After tag-teaming research, she used rkill and MBAM to remove the virus. All seemed well until I did a google search and was thrown to some random site. More research and I discovered now I had the Google Redirect Virus (GRV). I went to bed, again.

Today my wife used A-Squared (Emisoft Anti-Malware) to remove the GRV and so far so good. After several reboots, I've had no redirects in either Firefox or IE. I ran GMer today and it stated that it had detected rootkit activity.... Read more

Hello,There are two main virus on my machine that I couldn't get rid of using either Malwarebytes, Search & Destroy and some other options I found online.First I have the google redirect virus and I'm scared to even access my bank account from my machine. How can I fix this one?Second is the Windows 7 Antivirus 2011. Only thing I was able to do was to restart and press F8 and then restore to a previous date from there. Now the virus is not popping up but I'm scared it is dormant somewhere in my system.I have a toshiba satelite Intel core due T6600 and 4GB Windows 7 64-bit OS. I use the free Avast antivirus as my main internet security. Yesterday I bought the McAfee Internet Security 2011 to see if I can improve my security settings while online. I have not installed the software yet as I'm waiting to clean my system before I do so.Attached and copied below are the Attach.txt and the DDS.txtHopefully my problem will be easier to solve. Hello, right where do I start?

A few weeks ago I believe I had some sort of trojan on my computer which resulted in me having the same problems as I'm having currently i.e When I click on a google link I am redirected back to google by some ixfind.com, well i thought I fixed that but this morning when I made a google search a similar situation occured but this time before I was redirected to google my browser displayed a find28.com?

I'm getting really sick of this and would appreciate any help given.

Some other information is that I have tried to remove it with malwarebytes, it said that it had had found a few trojans etc but when I reboot my system the problem still persists, I also tried to run combofix, but it gave me a message saying that combofix was compromised and that I may have a file patching virus?
Also I cant update any AV software and I cant access any AV sites.

Answer:Google links keep directing me back to google and I can't access any AV sites!

And now I seem to have it on this labtop too--at least, the Anti-Spyware one. I'd like to focus on my main computer first through. My usual tools on it are Spybot, Avira, and Anti-Malware free version (if I have to buy the full version, I will). I also ran a Hijack-This log off of the main computer if that helps. Anti-Malware isn't working on that computer either--something about a Windows service being off? I appreciate any help you can give me.

Answer:XP Anti-Spyware 2011 and Google Redirect virus combo

Good evening. Take a trip to this webpage for download links and instructions for running Combofix by sUBs.* Please be aware that this tool may require the PC to be rebooted so close any programs you have open before you start. When CF has finished, it will produce a log - C:\ComboFix.txt - copy and paste it into your next reply. Let me know how the PC is behaving.* There are two points to note from the instructions page:1) The Recovery Console. It is recommended that you install this as, in certain circumstances, it may be the difference between a successful repair and a reformat. If you are uncertain as to whether or not you already have the Recovery Console installed, simply run CF and it will prompt you if it does not detect it.CF will complete some, but not all, of it's removal tasks without the installation of the Console so, should you choose not to allow the installation, you may not get the results you hoped for.2) Disabling your Anti-Virus.CF has been the victim of false-positive detections on occasion and a resident AV may incorrectly identify and delete part of the tool which won't do it much good. If you don't disable your AV, you may not get the results you hoped for either.

From what I have read online I believe have a Google redirect problem which I believe has made it possible for other attacks to happen on my PC; most recently the Vista Internet Security 2011 virus that tries to download a bogus spyware program onto my PC.I have done a system restore to avoid the Vista Internet Security 2011 virus, but I think my PC is still wide open to future attacks. For months now my Google toolbar searches have lead me to weird pages when clicking on the results of a search. I also have a RunDL error every time I boot. I've tried deactivating that through my start-up options, but to no avail. It reactivates itself it seems. Also, various bogus spyware programs have tried to insert themselves onto my PC but have been easily avoided with Symantec and Ad-Aware scans, I believe at least.Obviously I am having trouble describing my issues so let's get to the Hijack This Log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 4:28:22 PM, on 3/19/2011Platform: Windows Vista SP2 (WinNT 6.00.1906)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.19019)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SmcGui.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exeC:\Windows\RtHDVCpl.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared... Having some trouble removing a google redirect and fake virus software (XP Internet Security 2011) malware problem.

Last night I was able to rename an offending file, jit.exe, to jit.dl_ and then able to do malwarebytes full scan and eliminate the XP Internet Security 2011 malware.
Things seemed to be going normally and I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

Google is still redirecting to ad sites instead of intended search links.
I have run Malwarebytes, HitmanPro(free version), and TDSS Killer to no avail.
I have gone through the outlined process for posting for help and have obtained a DDS.txt report and Attach.txt
I attempted to run GMER but my computer reset after scanning for several hours. Most of the files coming up were related to avast, of which I had downloaded a trial of several months ago but it never worked right and I have tried to remove it but it never uninstalled properly (I ended up just deleting all files associated with it I could find)

I would appreciate any help with this problem and eliminating the potential for future infection. Thank you!!

Here is the DDS.txt

Hi,Please do the following:Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:Link 1 Link 2 VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop * IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. So, when I attempt to use Google to search for something either by way of the search bar in firefox, google.com, or google.com/ig, I have to open my links in a new tab because if I click them I will be redirected back to google.com.

A few notes:
I cannot use the back button to go back to my search results, it just takes me to whatever page I was on before I conducted the search.

The google.com URL is changed upon redirect to read as follows (some examples):

Code:
http://www.google.com/webhp?emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=netPToSLE6XJsQLVvaT3Bg
http://www.google.com/webhp?emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=Nu5PTrqzHqLjsQK3u82GBw
http://www.google.com/webhp?emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=Q-5PTuKSOMiKsQKLkLmHBw
I don't think that there's anything malicious about this, as it just takes me back to google, therefore I don't think that it's a virus. I have run ComboFix and all it succeeded in doing was removing my steam.exe

I've also reinstalled firefox (didn't delete all my personal settings and bookmarks).

Any other ideas?

Answer:Google searches are redirected back to google. I don't think it's a virus.

Haxxed, what version of FireFox are you using? What toolbars are you using? At one time the ZoneAlarm toolbar cause me a problem similar to this.

Hi there. I have a continuing problem that I can't get rid of. When I go to do a google search from either the google web page or the toolbar in either firefox or ie, my results are coming back on a google russian results page. This doesn't happen when I use safari. Iv'e done virus scans and I get nothing. I used malwarebytes, spybot s+d, lavasoft and spyware dr. All turn up nothing. The first search that I do after clearing my private data and cookies comes back with results in google english but all subsequent searches come back in russian. Hello, I am trying to clean up my sister's computer for her. Running Windows XP (Media Center Edition, 2002, Service Pack 2). Before I started, you could not open any programs, there were pop-ups, random spyware, etc. I have run Malwarebytes, Super Anti Spyware, Spybot S&D, and Avast! anti-virus. All four of these found many things wrong and I followed the instructions and remedied the found problems. However, even after doing this stuff, I still have the following problems:

-the Internet will periodically slow to a near stop even though the connection is fine. I can't load pages. Then it'll work for a while, then it'll slow down again.
-Now, *after* performing the above mentioned steps, I am getting redirected on Google searches
-Now, *after* performing the above mentioned steps, Antivirus Antispyware 2011 has been popping up randomly
-Any external devices, such as my harddrive, will get a single file put on it (once it was myporno.avi, once it was shortcut to Google Chrome)
-Occasionally, when restarting, the computer will fail to start. I can't start in anything but Safe Mode (and sometimes that won't even work)
-Also, and these might not be actual issues, but I cannot open Google Chrome or Photoshop at all (photoshop stops on the "initializing tools" part). Also, I seem to always have 13-15 svchost.exe running, and this seems a bit high to me.

EDIT: I guess I should mention that twice now, I've gotten the "No Audio Devi... Read more

For about a week now, almost every time I click a link in google after searching, it redirects me back to google.com. Problem occurs in IE, Firefox, and chrome. In between the redirect, a different webpage appears in the URL which looks like an ad but it never actually displays that page. The only way I can get those links to open properly without being redirected is to right click and open in new tab. Also, at random times, a popup will open in a new window which asks me to take a survey about the webpage I was just on. This happens with whatever webpage I am on and is not specific to one single website. Internet browsing also seems to have slowed down. I have run norton, spybot s&d, superantispyware, panda, mcafee, trend micro, and spyware doctor and they have come up with nothing. I have searched the internet for similar problems and have found many, but none of their solutions have fixed my problem.

Hi

Yesterday I had the vista 2011 security virus scan my pc which found many infections. These were all fake. Since trying to remove this virus with Mcafee, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Hitman pro, rkill and cccleaner, I still get random music, a google redirect to random sites and the dreaded bluescreen after 6 hours of running scans.

I have recovered my pc to a previous restore point which saved my deleted files. I have followed your guidance for posting and I could really use some friendly help. I'm using another older computer to post this message, opting to only open my infected sony vaio laptop in safe mode. Thanks for offering an opportunity to work with you to fix my laptop. I eagerly await your instructions....

I disconnected all my HDD/SSD's and clean installed W10 on a fresh SSD. I did this mainly to ensure W10 and my hardware were compatible. I am now back on W7 from my original disks and working fine. QUESTION: Will MS be satisfied when I reinstall my W10 SSD at some time in the distant future and still maintain my "free" upgrade digital entitlement.

Answer:Win7 to W10 and back

That was the fishing story I read that you can keep both but never let 10 feel the win-7 install on the computer.
Dual booting you'll still need to disconnect the other os while using the other if that makes any sense

Act like you're installing 10 except for the data drives you had connected or connected after installing 10.

Question: Going back to Win7

I've got a Thinkpad X220 tablet which I bought it with Win7pro.  I upgraded to Windows 8 but now I want to go back to Windows 7 factory default.  The lenovo recovery partition is still there and healthy in disk management.  The F11 is not working. The thinkvantage button is not working. I tried using Windows 8 PC/settings/recovery but keep getting missing files.  I've downloaded Lenovo system recovery but it won't install in Windows 8 because it is not support. Since the recovery partition still exist, is there a tool or steps I can do to force the tablet to recovery to factory default Windows 7? Thanks

Answer:Going back to Win7

See if you can use a Windows setup DVD's command line and DISM to apply the cdrivebackup.swm image to your Windows partition (might be C: ) and sdrivebackup.wim to your SYSTEM_DRV partition (might be S: ).You can find the images on the recovery partition under one of the folders.

I installed Win7.
I tried to reinstall WinXP.
Came across a Copy File error.
Verified that it wasnt the DVD. or Drive. (Tried multipul Devices, etc etc.)
(Both ended up working after a format also.)

Am I going to be forced to format my entire hard drive in order to
get Win XP back ?

Im just curious.
Id rather not reinstall 100 gigs worth of Crap X_x. EtcEtc.

Sry. Im sure this answer is out there. Most of the time they say you just cant.
===================

Can you reinstall Win XP over Win 7 ? Without formatting?
Last time I tried I got a copy file error.

Do we know when the Win 7 Beta ends?

Answer:Win7 back to Win XP.

Last Question First the original Beta will time-out on or shortly after July 1 2009, However the current thinking the the forthcoming RC build will run until July 2010.

As with most if not all operating systems you will not be able to "Upgrade" to an earlier version, without reformatting the system drive.

One option is to either run a dual boot system or at least separate your Data from your System by the use of partitioning.

Depending on the space you have available on the drive and it's layout It may be possible to partition the drive in a way to allow you to install a dual boot of XP on your machine.

If you can provide further details as to your complete situation we will try to advise a more specific option

So, for whatever reason, I'm having a myriad of issues with Win10. This laptop isn't even 4 months old, and I just had to replace my HHD last week, and my internet connection is dropping out every 5 mins. I have an OLD laptop with Win7 on it sitting right beside me and it's doing fine. I also have my cell phone that's doing just fine. Reason #2, I've been trying for the last 3 weeks to sign into Chrome on this one, and I've inquired on no less than 5-6 forums, incl. this one, and Google has been the least help of all. I can sign right out, and sign back in on Win7. Finally, I'm sick and tired of having to sign into Win10 every time I breathe, and I've tried to remedy that, and nothing stays the way I think it should.

So, having said all that, what would be the best way to format my HDD totally clean, so I can stick a Win7 Install DVD in AND GO!?

Thanks Guys,

Answer:Best Way To Go BACK to Win7

Hi, what you're asking is easy.

But given it's a new laptop, is it actually Win 7 compatible? Worth checking... think drivers.

Not sure why you're repeatedly signing in to Win 10.. mine's stable (new laptop, installed Win 10 myself). But sure, some have bad experiences, and most here have probably had some snag at some point, and a few have Wifi issues with Win 10.

Normally the older OS (XP) is installed first, but you can still boot from the dvd and install XP to a different partition. It is going to need a bit of boot loader modification to make the machine a true dual boot.

After my recent total comp failure experience I installed a new HDD, got Win7 up again (with a lot of help from here) and I've decided to make an image on a DVD just in case it happens again. However, despite loading Win7 from an .iso that I downloaded from the net (onto a DVD), it seems that I can't generate a specific one from my computer because a DVD is too small. Why the difference? (I have a spare HDD and a caddy so I can put it on there - but a DVD is easier).

Answer:Win7 Back-up Image on DVD

usually, more than 1 dvd blank disc is required [typically 2 or 3, if not many programs have been installed onto the system HD] ... I did a win 7 backup yesterday [20gb saved onto 2 dvd disks - compression involved]...had a problem with the 'in-built' dvd rw/cd writer inside the computer, so had to use an external USB dvd writer, the resulting backup using 2 dvd discs [4.7gb X 2] seemed to go alright.

Hey, I wasn't sure whether to put this thread in this section or the installation & setup thread but I chose here.

Basically, I need to re install my window 7 using the operating system disc that came with the computer a number of years ago because an error comes up saying that my copy of windows is not genuine (it is).

So, yesterday I used the backup tool that's implemented into windows to backup my files. First question is, does the backup tool backup all my files including music and word documents, and also my program files such as Google chrome and iTunes?

Secondly, how would I go about re installing windows 7. I've looked around a bit but I'm still not really sure. I've got the installation disc so I can do a custom re install or upgrade.
I tried to do an upgrade because I don?t want to have my files deleted but as I?m not technically upgrading I cannot do that. So how would I go about re installing windows 7?

Answer:Help with back up and re installing win7 hp 64 bit

If your PC came with Win7 preinstalled, you should not be encountering a not genuine message -- because activation in those circumstances is accomplished using a BIOS table -- which should not have changed.

You would get better answers in the activation and updates section -- so I'll ask a Mod to move this there.

I searched back a few pages and didn't find a clear answer to this. The questions that seems to deal with the topic wandered off into target disk sizes or just offered a vague answer labeling Windows Backup as restrictive. I asked the question in another forum but the response is slow and I want to hurry and get an inituila backup.

I just converted from XP to 7 Home Premium 64bit and I'm frustrated to say the least. I had been using Retrospect Express for XP but always had problems when it had filled my hard drive. I also couldn't find an upgrade path for my decade old version. I had hoped to use the native Windows backup, figuring that it had matured into a usable product.

System disk backup went fine, no complaints there. But I can't find an option that will allow me to use it to make backups of my 2nd and 3rd data drives. It is difficult for me to believe that Microsoft did not consider people may have more than one drive, so I figure it must be another "feature" of the new OS that I don't comprehend. In that other forum, the responder mentioned Windows having a backup wizard. Help knows nothing about it and I don't recall one when I set up the system image. The path he supplied for this wizard matches nothing on my Start menu, so I think he's using a dumbed-down version for those who don't want to actively manage their system.

Question: Roll back to Win7

Is it possible to roll back to win7 from win8?

I purchased win8 pro as an upgrade from win7 through Microsoft so I do not have a disc. I've looked at several vids on the internet and nothing worked.

I have tried start up and recover, win8 is the only system available.

I purchased my laptop with win7, so no disc or recovery disc.

I also tried setting up a vhd and boot into that, it did not work.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Rob

Answer:Roll back to Win7

1. You can try and restore from Windows.old folder - harder than it used to be .

2. You can use the .wim ( or several split wims on the original recovery partition that your machine came with. Assuming you haven't deletd it.

3. You can get a windows 7 iso download, do a clean install using the product key that came with your machine. It will be on sticker somewhere.

Option 3 is probably easiest unless you are a geek.

Tap the "ThinkVantage" blue button on power-up during the BIOS start-up, then you will access to a nice program that allows you to set up you computer with the default OS/configuration (if I remember well).

I have tried over the past few days to do a Windows backup. Error code 0x81000033 appears each time I attempt to complete the backup.
My main hdd is a Samsung ssd 850 250GB.
I have two extra drives which I tried to use for the backups. 1 is a WD 5003AZEX (500GB with 440GB free) 2 years old.
2nd drive is a Seagate ST3500418AS (also 500GB with 424GB free) 6 months old.
I get the same error message with both drives.

Appreciate any help with this problem.

I have a problem with my sound card. It is not working and can?t seem to find my disc that came with the pc.
Can anyone tell me where to find this disc on this site I think either Microsoft or Toshiba should store these files as it can be frustrating at times trying to find these sorts of files in dodge downloads it had windows on it and the other had all the drivers.

My laptop is Tecra M2 it had WXP Professional loaded on it and all the drivers I have a key on the bottom of the pc and it can?t be that bigger file if it fits on a CD.

If anyone can help it would be a big help.
Thanks heaps anyways

Answer:Re: Tecra M2 - Need to get back to WXP from Win7

Hello

What you got with your notebook is recovery installation disc. This disc contains operating system, all necessary drivers, different Toshiba tools and utilities and some additional software. The whole package is not available for download but what you can download are all drivers, tools and utilities.

All this you can find on Toshiba support and download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/

If you want to install WXP again you can use Microsoft installation disc with valid activation code (key at the bottom will not help). Install WXP and later download and install all Toshiba stuff you can find on Toshiba download page.

Original Toshiba recovery image for Tecra M2 can be installed with Toshiba recovery disc only.

I work extensively in windows explorer (its how I keep my files organized and have a very structured hierarchial tree); also use ms office & windows movie maker extensively. Got new computer with win 7 and office 10... and I am so very frustrated that I'm on verge of taking sledge-hammer to this computer. It seems to me that you cannot customize the folders in windows explorer...can't get rid of the libraries, move around 2nd level folders, ete, etc. Also, the "new and improved" (BS) windows live movie maker doesn't recognize old projects so there go all my almost made movies. And what is this business about not allowing the user to determine whether you want updates or not?????? OMG I hate this. Is there any good reason not to retrofit XP?

Answer:i hate new win7 - should I go back to xp?

You may think about donating your new PC to a school or to someone instead of sledge-hammering it.CoolGuy

am new here
i buy new acer laptop with windows 8.1 and i upgraded to windows 10
but all my working programs windows 8.1 and 10 not supporting
but all this programs working very good in windows 7
is there is any way to install windows 7 to my laptop because i ask in the shop that i take this laptop from him
he said not available to install 7 some drivers will not work
my lap. model is E5-573G-576V
aspire E 15
please i need your help
thanks

Answer:urgent help rolling back to Win7

I checked and Acer support show 8.1 and win 10 only on there driver site but if you google that model number with win 7 and a question mark third party driver sites claim to have drivers ..If you have a valid win 7 install and another hdd you could try on your own and see if it works or create a partition on your existing hdd if you have the space. Another option is to try and run your programs in compatability mode for the older OS if you have not already tried that . unless they would not run at all  on 10 .Just a thought. CheersMatt

I bought a HP laptop almost a year ago, it had Windows 7 pre-installed. There is a lot of junk and who knows what probably slowing down my laptop, a lot of it was the crap HP installed. I'd like to wipe everything and a re-install of Windows 7, but It didn't come with a CD? How can I go about doing this?

Thanks,

Hello,I set up desktop M57 after not using for about 3 years, and downloaded Windows 7 because I was told that XP was soon to be obsolete. I rec'd the copy from a relative. Before long I found out it was not a GENUINE copy. I've tried tirelessly  to find a way to 1] uninstall it  2] run the 3 Recovery Discs I rec'd with the computer in hopes to start over with the Default settings 3]to install another OS over it, et. I've tried following  the Recovery Disc  user instructions to use the Setup Utility program but it stops at a certain point and won't continue any further. I've had no success with any of these options. I called Lenovo in Atl but they said that the Win7 install deleted all the others that were originally in the desktop and I would have to buy a new set of the Recovery Discs for $45.00 or purchase the Windows 7. I'm afraid that even after I purchased and ran them they either would not work or something else would be wrong with all the problems in there now. There is a sticker on the tower that says WINDOWS Vista Basic but I don't know if that means it was ever there or that the computer system was just ready to accept it when it was available. I think I only ever used XP on it. Has anyone else had this happen, and if so,could you please share what did you do that worked to recover the OS, XP or whatever it was. I would really appreciate any advice,Graylady

Answer:M57 How to get back original OS after installing Win7

I assume there is an XP OEM sticker on the machine. Download an oem copy of WIn XP SP3 from a torrent site.Burn the iso to a disk.Turn on machine hit f12 put disk in and select cdrom driveThis will be legitimate if you have the oem sticker on the machine.Make sure during install you delete all partiotions, create new and formatDuring setup you will be asked to enter your OEM product code found on the blue oem sticker. After install load the missing drivers and you should be good to go.XP is older but still very functional and supported by MS.

As per title.

I've upgraded my Win7Pro to Win10 Professional a few months ago. I want to install Win7 back for testing purposes. I still have my Win7 activation key.

What's going to happen after the testing when I'll install Win10 again? Will it be activated or will I have to pay?

Answer:What happens with my Win10 license if I go back to Win7 for a day?

Hi, your PC should automatically activate if you reinstall Win 10. Once activated, your right to Win 10 is held on MS's activation servers against your hardware.

I suggest you do the following to save a lot of time:
a. Create a disk image using e.g. Macrium reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage (Use 'Windows Backup'). You can then restore your PC exactly as was with Win10 in under an hour. (Everyone should use disk imaging routinely anyway- strongly recommended here).
b. Reinstall Win 7 and do what you need to
c. Create an image of that so you can restore Win 7 any time you wish in under an hour.
d. Restore your image of Win 10.

Note: you will need to be careful about partitions on your disk - best to delete the Win 10 ones then install Win 7, then delete Win 7 ones and restore Win 10.

And a much easier way is to get a spare disk, put that in, and install Win 7 on that.. no messing, almost no risk.

I would really appreciate some insight on this one :

I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, legit, all of my programs are genuine and there is no malware/viruses on my system. I keep a very, very tight ship. I had reserved Win10 through the Get Windows 10 App and even though I have not yet been notified to upgrade, I modified that registry key as per MS's instructions, added the "AllowOSUpgrade" DWord Value, downloaded and begun the upgrade.

All drivers on my system are checked ([email protected], 16GB DDR3, GTX 970) and up-to-date, same goes for the BIOS.

Everything started normally, and at the 32-39% configuration range, I get the blue screen "Something Went Wrong" and Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. It reverted back to Win7 5 times in a row that I attempted it with the following :

-Disabling anti-virus
-Ran chkdsk /f /r and sfc /scannow
-Unplugged all USB devices except for a very basic keyboard/mouse

Mind you, I get zero error messages on Win7 and everything works amazingly well. I have a main SSD with the OS and an HDD for storage.

I can not think of ANYTHING else at this point...a colleague suggested I kill all overclocking of the CPU and revert it to default values but the OC is done via Asus Tuneup II-sth once inside Windows so I don't see how it can affect the installation.

If anyone has any clues regarding this, they'd be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Answer:Kernel_Security_Check_Failure At 35%/Reverting Back To Win7 Pro 64-Bit

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anyone ever faced the overclocking issue before?

Updated: I also have an M-Audio Firewire interface plugged in that I did not unplug as well as a Bluetooth dongle. They couldn't possibly be the culprits now, could they?
