Windows 7 and Dell Dimension B110 is slow

Question: Windows 7 and Dell Dimension B110 is slow

I got a Dell Dimension B110 and upgraded the processor to a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with 1.00 GB of RAM and added an Nvidia FX 5200 Video Card. It seems that the computer has a lag with it, even though the hard drive is a fast IDE drive. When I put Windows 7 on it, there is a lag with the entire computer. When I enable aero, I can see the aero lagging. However, on a custom built computer with an AGP slot, I don't see any lag. What is making it lag so much? Is it the PCI Graphics card I am using? The Dell Dimension B110 doesn't have any AGP Slots.

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 and Dell Dimension B110 is slow

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 7 and Dell Dimension B110 is slow

"What is making it lag so much? Is it the PCI Graphics card I am using? The Dell Dimension B110 doesn't have any AGP Slots."Yes, partially. Aero needs a modern AGP card for its' "wow" effects. The 1GB of RAM is also the minimum that Microsoft recommends for Win7, so I'd recommend you max out the amount of RAM in the machine and forget Aero."Channeling the spirit of jboy..."

Answer:Dell Dimension b110 :(

You are paying the price for " buy from cheapest price "The Dell B 110 is a poor cheap machine. You would need to put some serious money into it to make it a reasonable machine. What cpu, ammount of memory and operating sysem is it using?

Here's a selection. You won't be able to play FarCry with any of these though. Hello Everyone,
First time posting a question in these forums, I recently received a Dell B110 from a coworker, which seems intact on the inside apart from the HDD coming loose from its original place. Unfortunetely my collegue did not have the original power cord. Would anyone be able to tell me what type of power cord I need to buy, although I have a general idea of which type it is, I rather be 100% sure and not risk damaging the computer (if it still works of course). My ultimate goal is to either rebuild as a new computer or upgrade certain of its components, I'm trying to achieve a Comptia A+ certification and figured this would be a good place to start.
Also, can anyone tell me if and how I'd be able to view its information on an LED TV since for now I'm trying to avoid buying a monitor.
Thank you,

Answer:Dell Dimension B110

The Dimension 1100 / B110 uses standard power cord that all other computers use.
NEMA 5/15 standard Monitors also use this. The only issue would be not in the usa you may need to change the 110 / 220 switch on the power supply.
It only comes with analog VGA standard so if your tv does not have vga you arent going to get a 14 year old computer working on an LED TV.

I'm trying to help a friend out that has a Dell dimension b110 that will not boot. When the power is turned on the lights come on for a second and the fan starts to turn but then everything dies. Not even a blinking amber light on the front. I tried a different power cord and I tried making sure none of the MB plugs had come loose.

It does the same thing regardless of whether or not the keyboard, mouse, and monitor or plugged in. No other external peripherals are plugged in.

Any ideas on things to try before buying a new power supply. I would hate for them to buy a new PS and have it turn out to be a motherboard issue.

Answer:Dell Dimension B110 will not boot

Thanks for the input.

I won't be able to do that. It doesn't even stay on long enough to complete the POST.

I have all ready tried unplugging the machine and holding down the power button and even tried a different cord just in case.

After doing a clean install of my computer about a week ago (Windows XP Home Edition) my Dell speakers won't work at all, in WMP and on websites, such as YouTube. I installed the driver from Dell Support but they still don't work. Everything is plugged in properly and the green light on the right speaker goes on, but no sound at all comes out. NOTHING. I looked around in Audio settings and everything seems to be in place. The speakers aren't muted or anything. Could someone please help me solve this problem? Thanks!

Answer:Dell Speakers won't work on Dell Dimension B110

Check your connections again. We've all plugged in the PC connection to the wrong port from time to time.
If that's not the problem, uninstall the driver in Device Manager and reinstall.

Hi guys.

I'm having problems finding the correct drivers for my friends Dell Dimension 1100/B110 .

He installed a new copy of XP and wiping everything he had but has lost a lot of the drivers and cannot get online or the display sorted.

I have listed the controllers required below. I went onto Dell website however the drivers page has 'page error' on every driver I try. Any help would be much appreciated.

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia and Audio Controller
SM Bus Controller
USB Controller
Video Controller - vga compatible.

Since he is having some issues with loading the Dell pages... I took the liberty by downloading the drivers, unzipping it and put it all together in a zip file for you.

I am currently working on an elder lady's Dell Dimension B110 and am having troubles.

I re-installed XP for her on request and have installed all drivers from the dell drivers support area.

I freshly installed the audio/chipset drivers/network etc .. the required.

looking at everything and scanning the System to make sure everything was installed correctly I assumed this was a done deal and a sound machine.

Problem is I was using my Wireless USB connection to connect to my router. When she took it home she could not connect to the internet via LAN/Ethernet Cable.

I offered to take it home thinking it would be a quick fix but dells drivers for the B110 Network/Intel Drivers seem to "look" like its installed correctly but give me the "A cable is unplugged"

I checked the port when plugging in to see if it lights up and it does not.. I dont see how I could have broke it al all considering all i did was clean dust carefully and changed out the thermal compound between the cpu/heatsink.

Question is ... do you think this is a hardware problem or the drivers cause I am so confused.. she said she connected it no problem through wired connections before I formatted it. I am assuming that the drivers are actually for the Dimension 1100 .. because I dont see how I could have shorted the board ... and the listing for drivers says Dimension 1100/b110

Please help me if you can thanks. MiNdRaGeD here...

Answer:Serious Mind Bender - Dell Dimension B110

Did you enter the Service Tag to get the drivers for the ethernet adapter?

I have seen Dells do odd things when you download drivers without using the Service Tag as a reference.

My son gave me a computer that he had reinstalled xp professional on.
I found that there were 2 yellow question marks showing at device manager.
I downloaded the chpset driver from intel (win2k_xp1417) and that fixed one of the problems but I still have no sound. The remaining question mark is the multimedia audio controller. I have not been able to locate it but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

I did download and run Everest but did not know which report to attach.(all pages, system summary, etc)

I would really appreciate any suggestions. I'm several levels over my head, right now. I'm basically qualified only for pencil and paper.

I have two 16GB micro sata ssd's I'd like to try and get working inside a Dimension B110. I already have two sata to micro sata adapter cables so all I need to do is get it able to accept two sata drives. I'm looking at this "Ultra U12-40739 PCI Expansion Card - 2 SATA Internal Ports, 1.5Gbps, Raid 0, 1, JBOD" to get the two sata connections. But it says in the specs "Supports 66MHz PCI with 32-bit Data". Should it be backward compatible to work with the B110's 33MHz PCI interface? I'll also be buying two 4 Pin Molex power to 15 Pin SATA with a 5V to 3.3V converter cables. I'm also wondering how the RAID would be setup? Does the B110 BIOS have options for RAID? Will it show the option for RAID once the two ssd's are connected? Will there be some software utility I'll need to configure it? Not sure how that will work. Thanks for help!

Answer:raid with two micro sata ssd's in Dell Dimension B110?

Well I got the parts I needed and the ssd's are installed, but I can't get the drives to show up in "Computer" so I can use them as bootable drives. I'm using some sata utility tool and I'll add pics of what I see. How can I get them as bootble drives?

Question: Dimension B110

Hello Everyone,
I have a Dimension B110, which from a physical aspect is pretty much intact, aside from the HDD that somehow came loose. I'm in the process of buying a power cord an vga connection to see if it works period.
Would anyone be able to tell me if I would be able to use just the case to build a new PC? I dont mind spending some money on a new mobo or other peripherals. I'm studying for the comptia a+ exams and figured this would be a good way to practice.
Thank you,

Answer:Dimension B110

There are a number of issues you'll face, starting with the proprietary wiring of the front panel harness in the system, which won't work with anything but a Dell OEM board.  The next will be the fact that just about nothing inside the system is useable for building a new PC - the hard drive is the old PATA interface, and you won't find much if anything that'll take this type of drive now - the memory is out of date, and you'll need a new CPU (no new board will take a CPU that old).  Essentially, the keyboard, mouse and monitor are about the only salvageable parts in the system.
If you really want to build a new system for the experience, reuse those three parts -- the rest, recycle.

I got a Dimension B110 and a Dimension 4300. I'm trying to take the dimension 4300 cpu and put it in the B110. Everything i've read says i should be able to do it. It's a p4 1.6ghz., 400hz, 478pin, ect. It supports all the technical stuff i think. Whenever i plug the power cable into the back the computer boots up on its own and the screen is just black. It says it's in a power save mode. The tower is in some power save mode too i think (an orange light on the front lights up). I've updated my bios to A01 and a lot of my drivers. Anyone know what's up? Thanks. and there are no beeps when it turns on.

Answer:Dell Dimension 3000 Runs SLOW !!!

In most cases, issues dealing with slow computers can be attributed to viruses/malware. Sometimes loading new software (or software updates) can slow down a computer because of the size of the program relative to your computer's hardware specs, but 95% of the problems I've ever run across as far as slow computers are concerned (especially abrupt slowness) are due to viruses/malware. So my question to you is have you run a virus/malware scan lately? I'd start there especially if you haven't loaded any new software recently.

My wife has a 2001 Dell L500CX which is extremely slow.Aware that the PC was doing (in my view) excessive disk accessing I set about trying to restore some resemblance of speed. So far I have tried the following to restore 'normal service':1. Increased RAM from 192MB (64+128) to the maximum allowable for this elderly PC - 512MB (2 x 256MB). If anything, this made matters worse! On checking the BIOS, this only reports 2 x 128MB. When the PC is startup, instead of wizzing through the memory check, the PC ticks over at a snails pace! The BIOS uses Flash memory, so I guess it could be upgraded. Do I need to go to Dell for this or are there third-party supplies (such as Award) who offer upgrades for Dell BIOS?2. Set the Virtual Memory for all partitions to an initial size of 768MB and a max of 1024MB - which should be right for the 512MB RAM, once I can get access to all of it.3. Used DriverMax to update all the drivers on the PC. These all seemed to load OK, but have not increased the speed of the PC. In addition, when I went to access the Device Manager Advanced Tab for the IDE drives (to check that they had not switched to PIO mode) it is no longer there! How do I get it back again? The General tabs for both the Primary & Secondary IDE drives say that the device is working normally - but no sign of the Advanced tab.4. De-fragged the hard drives and the registry.5. Hello, I know this Dell is rather old but it is all I have for use until I have saved for a new laptop. My problem with it is that it is very slow.

It has a 1.8GHz Intel Celeron CPU and 512MB of RAM and it runs Windows XP Home Edition, but when I attempt to browse the web via Google Chrome or Firefox or any browser, it's really slow. Trying to load a video on YouTube on this thing is pretty much impossible. I assumed this was just normal behaviour for a machine this old but I was told by a friend that 512MB should be more than enough to run Windows XP without it being this slow.

I constantly get the "virtual memory minimum too low" message while trying to visit Twitter or Facebook or even when checking my mail. I've just tried increasing the virtual memory and I will check if that has made any difference but I'd just like to know if there's anything else that can be done to improve this machine's performance. Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Reinstalling XP on very slow Dell Dimension 8200

Since you are complaining of your Dell 8200 becoming very slow, I tend to think you may have been hit with either a virus, or somesort of spyware. I've heard that certain virus's are designed to keep you from accessing your restore cd.
Run a complete virus scan.
If you don't have them - download Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy, and run them to get rid of any spyware.

I have a Dell B110 computer with Windows XP. I just a bought another monitor and want to have two monitors setup side by side. The second one would be an extension of the first main monitor. We have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP installed. We also have Norton Internet Security 2007, Windows Defender, and do not seem to have any viruses or spyware. Out hard drive is just under half full (17.5 GB of 37.2 GB).

It takes 5 or 6 minutes from the time we turn on the computer until we can actually do something with it (connect to the internet with IE or check email with Outlook 2003). I uninstalled Google Desktop and turned off Windows Messenger (from the start menu), both of which helped some (used to be even slower). I have tried to uninstall Dell Alert (which starts every time) but am unable to with Uninstall Programs and cannot find DAMon.exe to just delete that.

Once it is up and running, the PC is reasonably fast (the problem is just at the startup and first 5 to 10 minutes). I have a newer laptop I use on our wireless network and it connects very quickly to the internet so that is not the problem (as far as I can tell). We did recently switch from a cable modem to slightly slower DSL.

I read some other threads, and it sounds like our problem is at least partly just too many things starting up, so I would like to turn some off on startup, but leave them where we could run them from the Start menu if needed. I would not mind removing Dell Alert entirely, or any other malware.

I just ran HijackThis and will paste the log file below. If there are some programs you don't recognize, please ask. My wife has some library supply company software for her ... Read more

Everything seems to be working but suddenly it's slow motion. Takes a long time to load Internet Explorer, for example. Just about anything.

Could be coincidence, but seems like maybe a fan or disk drive or something is a little noisier than normal.

Do I just have to get service? Any way to tell if it could be software?

It's run fine for about 15 months since I got it new. Warranty JUST ran out two days ago and I decided not to renew.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Dell B110 same machine as Dimension 1100.

Socket 478 Celeron 2.53GHz.
512MB PC3200 RAM
Intel 865GV Chipset
BIOS Ver. A01

Owner was complaining of being covered up with malware. When machine came in would not turn on. Front light flashing amber. Checked PSU +3.3V rail was at +2v.

Jumped PSU with tested good PSU, reset BIOS and could enter BIOS. Was getting FDD error, no FDD installed but disabled FDD in BIOS, message disappeared. All drives were turned OFF. Turned on all drives and BIOS recognized HDD and optical drive. (I still can't figure out initially why all the primary and secondary drives were initially turned OFF in BIOS).

Booted machine, Dell splash screen comes up for 57 seconds then these messages;

2 quick beeps
Primary drive 1 not found
Secondary drive 1 not found
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility

Zero filled hard drive and installed XP Home with SP3 and board drivers. Did all Windows critical updates except IE8 (used IE7).

When machine "hangs" at splash screen diagnostic lights initially are;

According to Dell these mean "A possible floppy or hard drive failure has occurred."

When you press F1 initially the diagnostic lights are;

According to Dell these mean "Another failure has occurred."

Then all 4 lights go all green and machine boots to Windows just fine.

I've reset RAM, HDD connections, WD d... Read more

I have used malware bytes, glary utilities, and emsisoft to clean anything that is on the computer, but there is nothing there to clean according to all three softwares as it a fresh install of windows xp.  So what else can I do to speed up the computer?
Also whenever I boot up, I get a message windows saying 'unable to load c:\windows\utevikak.dll.  The specified module could not be found.'
I have done a search to find out what uteviyak.dll is, and what progranm installed it, but no luck.  I also went in the registry and did a search for uteviyak.dll, but nothing was found.
How do I prevent windows from trying to load this dll and how do I speed up a computer that has a fresh install of windows?

Hello. This is my first post!
Here is my problem. I was given a died out Dell Inspiron B110 and has (had, more likely) no use. But now, I decided I am going to ya know, trick it out. So yeah, I can do the processor replacement and the hard drive replacement (someone please tell me the biggest processor I can fit in that B110 plz!), but my dad (yes, I'm a kid), says we can't replace it's graphics card (it's below 64MB, so I need a bigger one). I searched the 'net and found out I can replace it... but I just don't know how. Please tell me how to do it and the largest video card available for it.

Answer:Dell B110 Graphics Card Replacement

You are not going to "trick out" a Dell B-110 very much since this is a workstation machine.

About the best you can do would put in a 3 to 3.2Ghz. Pentium 4 processor (Northwood core only) with HyperThreading and add a PCI video card. The machine doesn't have an AGP or PCIe port + the power supply is only 250 watts.

if the machine currently has a Celeron processor you may open a can of worms trying to go to a Pentium 4 processor since it is most likely that you would need to change the processor heatsink for the Pentium 4 processor and you would need to get the heatsink assembly from Dell.

Here are the specs on the machine;

Personally, I wouldn't spend any money fr minimal upgrades.

Hello to all,   I recently did a clean reinstall of Windows XP (Home) on my Dell Dimension 2350. All went fine. Now I need to install the correct drivers. I have the Dell Resource disc and this is where the problem starts.    As noted elsewhere, after the reinstall the screen display of the Resource disc is as it would be in "Safe Mode". I was aware of this. As such, the Resource disc Search Criteria screen was a bit larger than the monitor screen. I was able to size it to fit the screen but this is really not the problem it is the following: The Search Criteria options I have from the drop down menus (on screen) are as follows:System Model:   All, Dimension C521, DXC061, Dimension DXP0G1, Dimension E521, DM061, XPS710    (Which, if any, do I pick?)Operating System: (I think I got this one)   All, Windows XPTopic:   (Maybe this one too)   All, Applications, Dell Diagnostics, Diagnostics, Drivers, Utilities   For the life of me I cannot figure out the exact drivers I am to install*. Windows XP only appears in the Operating System menu. I pretty much know the install order but as I said, I'm a bit confused about selecting the correct drivers from the disc. This computer is not connected to the internet at the moment so I can't download and use any sort of driver detection program. Other searches have confused me further and have provided no specific answer to this problem.&nbs... Read more

Answer:Installing drivers after Windows XP reinstall on Dell Dimension 2350 using Dell Resource disc

You need, in installation order:

Chipset driver
Video driver (depends on which video card)
Audio driver
Network driver (depends on which you have)
Modem driver, if you use a dialup modem

Go to the Support page and put in your Service Tag. It should give you the drivers you need. You can download them on any PC and copy onto a USB stick for installation on the 2350.
You only need the applications, if you actually use them (eg, Roxio, Jasc Paintshop, etc).
Then install your antiviral software and get online to the Microsoft Update site for all the patches and updates.
Keep in mind that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and they stopped releasing security fixes for XP and IE9, more than 1 year ago. So they're both full of security holes and put your personal data at risk.

I connected my old 3.5" drive to the IDE port on the B110 motherboard, and was able to use it just fine.  Then connected my 5.25" drive, but it seems the BIOS only supports 3.5", and Windows XP is not able to read the disk.
Any suggestions?  Do I need a special driver to make the 5.25" floppy work?  If yes, where can I find it?

I am new to this site. Not real knowledgable in computers, but was told a network card (mine was fried by lightning) was easy to install. I did install it.shut down power, opened computer case, just picked an open slot and inserted card. I hooked everything back up and turned the computer back on. However, my computer screen will not light up. I re-checked cords..everything is in place. The computer is running, but the screen will not light up. Any Ideas??

Answer:Dell B110 Added a Network Card-Now Computer Screen will not light up

welcome to TSG

I am not sure, but I don't think you can just plug a card into any slot, you should replace the faulty one and put it into the same slot.
Also lightning could have fried more then just the network card.

I like to hear forum members opinion.
Just recently fixed the issue with Dell Dimension 4300, machine didn't power up when power switch pressed. I replaced original dead 250W PSU with new 430W dual fan and now comp is running. This PC is:
Intel 845 1.6 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally. 4 DMA channels and SDRAM PC133 512 mb of memory.
I also upgraded USB to 2.0, nice 128MB video card and some other goodies.
Now, I got another stock Dell Dimension 8100 without papers, but I check and this particular one has:
Intel 850 1.4 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally. 8 DMA channels and 384 mb RDRAM of memory. Nothing was done to this machine, and it also have original working 250W PSU.
What better to do? Keep the Dimension 4300 or remove goodies that compatible with 8100 motherboard, including fabricating in, new, dual fan PSU and excluding memory, I assume SDRAM and RDRAM not compatible and transfer to Dimension 8100?
Is 8100 machine more advanced then 4300? I know they both pretty old and outdated. I personally bough 4300 for my dad in 2001. Is 8100 was produced later? I see that CPU is Intel 850 vs 845..
Guys, opinion welcome.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 1.6ghz 1gb RAM with XP Pro on it for several years now. It has many programs installed on it. I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.

My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot? What else is it looking for?

From personal Experience, having one of the best PCI cards you can get, (or close to it anyways), the max ram for the system, (2 GHz), And an 80GB hard drive, you figure you could get by with it right, since the minimum graphics requirement is 512mb Video Card, and 1 GB RAM? WRONG!!!

Unless you want to constantly Reboot your System, trying to get the Delled thing on, Then don't even bother. The latest Bios is Revision A03, released in 2007, which is the Era that Vista came about, The premature seed of Windows 7.

Therefore, until they decide to Revise the BIOS for the Dimension 3000 to fit the standards of Almighty 7, We are stuck with either XP or Vista.

Hey, my mom has a Dell Dimension desktop computer. It's a couple years old, can't recall which model but it has a celeron processor and windows XP home edition.

When you try to delete a file, say a picture, one at a time, it does it fine. When you go to select several, it copies them and makes like several copies of each. Then you can delete the selected files. But each time you select more, it copies them! It's pretty retarted and I'm not quite sure what could/would cause it.

Any ideas, I'm thinking possibly windows has to be reinstalled, but my mom says it has done it since day 1. Not sure why she waited until NOW to tell me. But maybe it was installed wrong initially.

Thanks in advance!

Visit the following website and install the latest version of BIOS:
Note that this BIOS is specific for Dimension 5100, if you have different model you should search in Dell website.
After you install the BIOS look and see if you see if you have memory protection in BIOS, take a look at:

If there wasn't such setting , then contact Dell support and report this issue.

My sister's computer... she said it just wouldn't start... no symptoms up til now. At least, none she was aware of.

OK, on power up, the screen appears (while the PC is counting RAM, I would guess).

Then I get the screen with the options of Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Start Windows Normally, Last Known Configuration....

If I select "normal" or "last known"... I will get the Windows XP screen with the blue loading bar for about 30 seconds(sometimes longer)... then it will go back to the first " screen...and so on...

If I select a "safe mode" option... it immediately goes back to the screen.
Booting with CD

I've tried booting it with the re-installation CD... changed the boot sequence to CD first.

Then there is a info screen... keyboard detected...
mouse detected...
USB legacy enabled...

Press <Del> to Resume

Windows Setup...

Setup loads files...

To set up Windows XP now, press Enter...

Oooh, setup actually ran this time, however setup cannot copy about a hundred files, ,and there are a ton of "file record segment unreadable"...

Also, during all this, there were some loud and scary noises coming from the box....

The last thing on the screen is:

Stop... The registry cannot load the hive or it's log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

The hard drive is toast, isn't it?

What do I do now?

bchambers,   to BC Forums!
There's a couple of options you can try, have only seen this happen once in my days. It wasn't my computer, so can't say what caused the issue.
1) Boot into Safe Mode, as soon as you press the power button, begin pressing 'F8' repeatedly. If you can get into Safe Mode, chances are you can login. If so, proceed, and reboot. You should than be able to login as normal next time.
2) Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, a few times if needed, and see if the alternative login screen comes up. If you can login this way, the next time should be normal.
BTW, I happen to have that same make & model of computer, however it's been in storage for well over a year. Hopefully one of the fixes above will get you going, if not, post back, maybe someone else has feedback.
Good Luck!

Answer:how do i upgrade my dell dimension 5000 frm xp to windows 7

Is your Windows 7 installation disc burned, borrowed, purchased from a store, or???

If you want to do a clean install, the general process is:

1: disconnect all peripherals, such as printer, external drives, etc. All you need is monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Disconnect any hard drives other than the one that will receive Windows 7.

2: Boot from the installation disc in the DVD drive, rather than from your hard drive. You do that by choosing the DVD drive from a menu or by setting the PC to boot from the installation disc in the PC's BIOS. Which of these have you done?

3: After booting from that disc, you should come to a screen asking you to choose a language. Shortly thereafter you will come to a screen asking "where do you want to install Windows".

At that point, you would delete all partitions and continue to follow the prompts.

Which of those steps fail for you? What error messages come up on screen?

Answer:Windows 7 dell dimension e520 issues

Don't really understand your question, if there is one.

No Windows OS can run from an external drive. Windows does not allow that, at least not for the full OS (other then a PE version).

What you seem to be asking is how do I run a pirated copy of someone elses copy of Windows 7 from an external USB drive.

If that is the case SORRY we don't do pirated software on this forum.

I suggest you buy a copy of Win 7, whichever flavor floats your boat, and install it on an internal drive in your system.

Then if you have any problems come back and ask questions.

Good Luck and best wishes

Dell Dimension 2400

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows 7 on Dell Dimension 2400

If I remember right that computer is pretty old and may not run with Windows 7. If the installation doesn't complete there IS something wrong. It coukd be anything from a hardware problem to the computer not being compatible with Windows 7. If it were my machine and I had to have 7 on it, I start by trying to determine if the computer was compatible with Windows 7, which might be hard to find out, if you go to the dell support site and it has drivers for windows 7 than you should be able to install it. If there are no drivers for it than it wasn't intended to run 7. You might also check that the HDD and RAM are good with Ultimate Boot CD - Download the UBCD

Answer:Dell Dimension 2400 Windows Xp Reinstall is the driver page for your machine. Since we don't know the exact configuration of your particular machine, I would be looking at the NETWORK drivers. If you put in your service tag # found on a label on the outside of your computer, you should be directed to the specs for your particular machine, Good Luck !!!! You're simply missing drivers. Not really worth a soul.

When I start pc I get the Dell logo screen, then the black screen , "Please select operating system , then enter. I do that then I get an error message."Could not start because the file is missing or corrupt", \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. You can attempt to repair etc.Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair selected boot disc, check boot path.
I cannot get any further than this. I then get an option to strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup.
I have searched for a solution before posting but everything I have found I have tried and nothing helps. I have tried the Dell suggestion as well , the setup windows cd xp home sp 2, nothing happens. When I click on boot device menu , it says that there is no boot device available, although this is checked on the system. i also get a computer disc hardware configuration problem, could not read from the selected boot disc, check boot path.
It started also with a low battery error message , which I changed so I don't get that anymore and the clock is correctly set! I also get a keyboard error as well.
Please can you help me?

I have a Dell PC running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Nortons 360 AV running. I believe I have spyware infection/s on this machine, I have been recomended to run ComboFix by my business's IT consultant but read here that you wish to assess this before committing to this application.

I notice that the machine is slow and will not run Adaware despite having this correctly downloaded.

Your support would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Hello and Welcome.

I have been recomended to run ComboFix by my business's IT consultant but read here that you wish to assess this before committing to this application.

Correct. No one who is not trained in the use of ComboFix should be advising others to run it. Additionally, ComboFix is a private tool, and not intended for business.

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble starting a clean install of Windows XP Home on a Dell Dimension 8250. I replaced the stock hard drive with a new one, put in the Windows XP CD that came with the computer, changed the boot priority to the CD-Rom drive, and I just get the black screen with " strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility".

Any ideas?

Hey guys.

I've got a problem! I was scanning my computer with Malwarebytes on my user account. I told the rest of my family not to log on to their accounts as I am scanning, but another member of my family forgot and logged onto their user account, and came told me that the screen is just black. There was nothing I could do so I held the button on the processor to shut it down. I waited for a bit and then turned it back on. The processor started up but then it shut down and a blue screen appeared!

I have posted what the Blue Screen shows below. I have noticed that when I restart and it appears again, some of the information changes.

What the Blue Screen shows:

I dusted off my old Dell Dimension 9200 desktop and put a fresh install of Windows 10 onto it...
All went well until the finish: at the Windows 10 login screen the USB keyboard and mouse are not recognized. They work fine at (and in) the BIOS -- it's Windows 10 that kills them. I'm guessing that W10 would install drivers once it launches but... I can't get past the login screen!
I've had a good old Google and peruse of these forums and I'm rapidly approaching the conclusion that the only way around this is to purchase a PS/2 add-in card and attach a PS/2 keyboard/mouse... but I obviously want to avoid that unless absolutely necessary.
So... anyone have any ideas? I can't find anything useful to enable/disable in the BIOS and I can't think of any other way around this chicken-and-egg situation, but I'm all ears!

Answer:Dell Dimension 9200: USB keyboard/mouse & Windows 10...

Hi archibaldingtonb,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that this computer is having difficulties with Windows 10.  Dell has not tested nor does it support running this machine with Windows 10, however some users have reported success. The problem becomes finding drivers.  Some users have successfully installed the Windows Vista or XP drivers and it has worked.  Other users have had better success with Windows 8.1.  Here is a blog from one of the Dell Community Rockstars which you may find helpful.
Here's a workaround from another Forum user.

Answer:Dell Dimension 4300 with windows 2000 professional

This system is well beyond End of Life and End of Support.  Recommended update for machines like these is Optiplex GX620 OR BETTER Mini Tower which can run MSDOS all the way to windows 10 without issue.  No such model 2000

Safe mode is windows screen not F2 Bios Screen.  Removing cmos battery WILL NOT CLEAR a bios password.
Locate jumper PSWD on the system board (see page 68) and remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2
Disconnect the computer power cable from the wall outlet, and then press the power button to ground the system board.Open the computer cover (see page 65).Reinstall the PSWD jumper plug on pins 1 and 2 (pin 1 is marked on the system board).Close the computer cover (see page 87), plug your computer into an electrical outlet, and turn on the computer.Turning on your computer with the PSWD jumper installed reenables the password feature.

I have noticed on several occasions that when my system displays many fragmented files and I'm waiting for the message stating that I should defrag, it appears that the system defrags on it's own!? All the red is gone and everything is blue. Does keeping the browser cache clean and deleting all but the most recent restore points have any bearing on this issue?

Answer:Solved: defragmenting-windows xp/sp2(dell dimension 2400)

It's possible that the caches are the only thing that's fragmented and cleaning those out leaves you with no fragmented files. However, that's highly unusual; it could be true if you don't download/install programs, don't create and documents with MS Office programs, and mostly play games. Do you have an automatic defrager running all the time (like Diskeeper)? Automatic defragmentation is not built into XP (you cannot even add defragmenting to Windows' scheduled tasks), so what's telling you you need to defrag?

I try to install Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Dimension 5150 running XP SP3.
According Microsoft 7 Upgrade Advisor everything fits and is compatible (incl. the Radeon X600 256MB HyperMemory card). Memory is at 3.5GB RAM. Display is an Asus VW224T, recommanded for Vista (more details I have listed on System Specs).
After the files installation and expansion, when the pc shutdowns and restarts for the 1st time the display freezes, i.e. turns black with the message "Windows ist starting" but nothing happens any more. I have to cold start the system amd choose "run previus windows"-option to get back to Windows XP

Dimension 5150 is NOT listed on Windows 7 compatibility list... but I have read old forum threads that Windows 7 runs smoothly on it.

Any idea how I should proceed, please? Thank you

My hard drive's windows files have become corrupt and I need the files on it, so I purchased a new hard drive. I can't seem to install Windows XP Home onto the new hard drive. Everything goes fine, but then I get an error message saying it can't install the product catalogs. Is this because I'm using a reinstall CD that was provided by Dell. Will I need to actually purchase windows Xp Home ALL over again? Or is this error from something else? I've been stumped for about 3 weeks now. I'l tried EVERYTHING pretty much and I can't reinstall Xp onto my old hard drive properly.

Thanks in advance.

After a Google search I've found someone to be running Windows 10 on the same machine as you. They've said it runs reliably. Generally if your PC can run Windows 7 it can run Windows 10.

You can upgrade to Windows 10 easily by using the upgrade installer here:

Yes, it's an older model, but I want to fix it and give it away.  Anyways, the audio driver is not working and is not actually detected by Windows.  It says 'No Audio Device' in Sounds & Audio Devices.  In 'Device Manager', 'Other Devices' has a yellow question mark with 'Multimedia Audio Controller' next to it.
Things I have tried to do:
a) Install Intel Chipset from Dell and then install Soundmax, which is also supported from Dell.
b) Install the 2 Audio Drivers from the Dell Website.
b) Reboot.
Also, I do not have the original CD for the audio drivers so I cannot install it when Windows detects it upon booting up.  Does anybody know how to resolve this issue?

I cannot boot up my pc using the hard drive. It is not recognized in the system bios. The only way i can boot up my pc is booting from the cd drive by connecting the data cable to the cd drive using it as the primary and making the hard drive i guess the secondary drive.
I can then get the pc to boot up but still though the hard drive is not recognized in the system bios . I can access the C drive ie.. hard drive after boot up though. it shows up under my computer and everything. I want to know if my hard drive is done. I have a dell dimension 5100 that I need to reinstall windows xp pro. I currently have RAID 0 configured by default. I do not want RAID 0 at all so I removed RAID from both SATA drives in the BIOS prior to reinstalling.

Now the problem..... I started the reinstallation process for Windows XP pro on sata drive 0. The drive was formatted and once finshed windows would not boot up. The dell boot screen keeps coming up. Do I have to manually format sata drive 0 and 1 then try reinstalling? Or does RAID 0 have to be configured? Researching my machine it does not say anything about RAID cannot be removed.

Please help!

This issue is happening after you formatted drive, then selected the unallocated space to install windows on, then windows copied files and restarted to finish installation? Or did you format drive and then just try to boot?

It looks a bit low in specification to run Windows 7 well, you should however be able to buy a Dell XP Operating System Reinstall CD from ebay for not a great deal of cash
This ebay item is the type you need it easily installs the XP operating system to Dell branded PC`s without requiring any COA
Shop around for the best deal paying special attention to shipping charges :)
To begin the install place the CD in the drive switch on the PC when you see the Dell splash screen go tap tap tap tap on the F12 key to get the boot menu choices then use the up down arrow keys to choose boot from the CD drive then hit enter the process will prompt you when your input is required

I would like to install windows 7 on my old Dell Dimension 4700c which currently runs windows xp.
I have been told that it is not possible to do an upgrade from xp to 7.
Is it possible to do a clean install?
Or do I need to first upgrade to windows vista and is this possible.
I recently purchased the windows 7 disk from dell online.
Thank you

Answer:Is a clean install of windows 7 on a dell dimension 4700c running windows xp pro possible?

It depends on the disc you purchased.  It will need to be a full copy of Windows 7 (not an upgrade edition) with a new license key.  If that's what you purchased, you should be set.
If what you purchased is an upgrade disc with no license key, you're not going to be able to do a clean install.
