Question: outlook express email login

I have a new computer and the installer set meup with a new email account. How can I access my old Outlook Express account?

Preferred Solution: outlook express email login

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: outlook express email login

You have to export the emails from the previous computer, then import them onto the new one (if that's what you mean). See "File" heading in Outlook Express. If you want to be able to Send/Rec on your previous account then you need to set it up again. In Outlook Express it is Tools > Accounts but you don't say what email client you are now using and they are all different. We all live on the same ball.

Alright, here are the facts:

1. When I start up my machine, the windows login screen tells me that I have (1) message in my Outlook 2007 - I have it set up through, so my Outlook address is a address. Yet when I open my Outlook, I don't see anything. Some messages come through, every time I restart, the screen tells me I have a message in there.

2. I had the Outlook 2007 set where when I open it up it asks for a password, and when I send something out, it asks for a password. All of a sudden, it doesn't do this anymore, no matter how many times I restart the computer, or close and open Outlook. I even attempted to use the repair feature in Outlook, but it worked to no avail. What is going on? My business depends on me being to secure my email accounts, and receive important emails - I can't afford to miss a really important one.

3. I also have this software called ComboFix that I've been hearing about which is supposed to be really good, but I didn't run it because I don't have anyone to guide me through any of the results, plus I heard it could possibly mess up my machine. I would like to run it if it will cure my machine and make my life easier.

**My machine is Windows XP.... Please can someone help me? It is greatly appreciated.

I have a large email group - over 200 names - in Outlook Express Address Book. A number of outdated email addresses bounced back to me. I wish to remove them from my Group. But OE seems to list only names, not email addresses. I cannot find a way to search by email address. Therefore I am faced with the task of looking up each name's properties to see if it's the email I need to eliminate.
Surely there must be a better way!
Or should I just find a better program to use? If so, suggestions?

Answer:Solved: Removing email addresses from Outlook Express Email Groups

you can always use the contact search bar at the top, enter the email, then that corresponding contact should appear. delete that contact and it will be deleted from any groups.

The email program I actively use is Outlook Express. When I click on a direct link within an email or web site context, my computer uses Microsoft Outlook instead of Outlook Express. Then it puts the message into MS Outbox and it dies there. Please help me! Trish Miller email: [email protected]

Answer:MS Outlook email is stealing Outlook Express email

Not sure how to get Outlook Express to steal back your Outlook email, but here's how you stop Outlook from stealing the email in the 1st place:

(1) In IE, go to Tools >> Internet Options (you can also access Internet Options from Control Panel).
(2) Click on the Programs tab.
(3) Click the drop-down next to Email, and change it to Outlook Express.
(4) Click Apply and OK.

Hello again kapilkaaiser,
I think you need to import the required info into Outlook 2007 -

In Outlook 2007, click File > Import and Export > Make the appropriate choices
> & hopefully the Import / Export Wizard will oblige.

Post back with your results.

Yes, I just recently installed Microsoft Office 2010 Pro onto my computer. I have run into a bit of a problem. I wanna make Microsoft Outlook 2010 the default email client for my user side and I wanna leave Outlook Express as default for another user on my computer. I cannot seem to figure out how to do this because once you pick a default email program on one user desktop it also makes it the default for other users on the computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi - my first time so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can even log a question, never mind get an answer! Anyway, here goes:

I am running an Asus Eee PC 1.66ghz 1.99 gb RAMIntel Atom

Asus runs XP Home Edition V2002 Service pack 3

I loaded MS/Office 2007 Student edition: I de-selected Outlook Express as I didn't want/need it, but ever since then whenever I switch on the PC I get the following message: "Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Express store. Your computer may be out of memory (it isn't!) or your disk is full (it isn't!)"

When I reply OK to this message I get a follow on message "To free up disk space Outlook Express can compact messages, this may take a few minutes". I respond OK to this and get a Windows message ?Windoes search system tray has encountered a problem and needs to close". After responding to this message the problem seems to clear and I can continue using the PC with no further messages or issues.

If anyone could help please to get rid of these irksome messages it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mike Marenghi

Answer:Outlook Express tries to launch on login

At what point in the install did you de-select Outlook Express? Outlook Express is incorporated into the OS, and Microsoft Outlook does not come with MS/Office 2007 Student edition. Have you looked into the System Configuration Utility? In there you can chose which programs to start in the Start up tab.

So I have a freaking master's degree in IT but I am at a loss to help my elderly neighbor with Outlook Express on a Windows XP OS.Her husband just died so she's had a lot of family/friends around helping her out - one decided to "help" her computer. All of a sudden she is asked to log into an identity when she tries to open Outlook Express (this is not a Windows account login, just an Outlook Express identity login). She does not know the password but says she was able to log into it successfully one time but now she does not know what that password was she used.I know if she had forgotten her Windows account password I could boot the computer in Linux and grab the password hash and crack it. But I am not sure what to do in this situation. Can anyone recommend a program that can grab this "Identity Login" password or hash of it? I'm seeing some programs to grab passwords but it looks like they are more geared to grabbing browser passwords rather than OS passwords.I know I could always just set up a new identity for her and re-set up Outlook Express but would that only grab her new emails on the server or would it merge her old stuff too since it is the same account with Time Warner (her ISP). Since her husband just died I know she has lots of unread stuff that she had already downloaded the one time she was able to get in. Plus, like a normal person she has lots of old stuff saved in her email that she would like to continue to have access... Read more

Answer:Outlook Express Identity Login

She could go to Time Warner website and use Forgot Password to reset the password. After resetting it online it could then be changed in Outlook Express.

Hi all! New to this forum. Just received a new computer and using Outlook Express 6 with two different
identities. Did not have this issue on old computer.
When starting up computer, the identity login window starts up in a pop up window automatically. I have removed this from the start menu, I went to msconfig. I unchecked the start up option in OE and in Windows messenger. It still pops up. Is there a fix for this?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Outlook Express Identity Login

You're likely being asked to pick a Profile. In Outlook and Outlook Express, you can set up multiple profiles for different users, email accounts, etc.

To alter this, open Control Panel, Click on mail, Click on "Show Profiles" - this will show you the two "identities" you speak of. You can pick one as default and opt to "Always use this Profile".

Hope this helps.

Approximately 2 to 3 minutes after my computer is fully booted up I get a popup window that asks me to log in to my Outlook Express mail client. I am using two separate identities of which one is password protected so when I intentionally launch Outlook Express it askes me to log in. This is normal. What I don't understand is why this window pops up without my taking any action to launch the program. I have checked all the setting in OE and nothing appears to be wrong. My computer is a 7-month old Sony Vaio running Windows XP with Service Pac 2 and Outlook Express 6. Has anybody out there ever had this annoying problem and what did you do to fix it? Thanks.

Answer:Outlook Express Login Window

I get that same problem. It is not with Outlook Express. There is a problem with connecting to the mail server. At least for me. I have to confirm the name and password. For some reason when you dont get a response after a couple of minutes from the mail servers it jsut assumes that your username and password is wrong and asks for you to confirm it.

I use web-mail, so can use e-mail by going on-line via Internet Explorer and checking my in-box there. I have configured Outlook Express with exactly the same log-in details. However, when I launch OE, it repeatedly asks me to log-in. I do so, again and again, until I can bear it no more, then I click Cancel. OE now carries on down-loading the messages into my in-box in the normal way. What is going on ?

Answer:Outlook Express not recognising login

If you are absolutely sure that the username and password are right, perhaps you have the wrong server name.

It's happened whilst I've been using norton OBC, whilst I've been surfing the web and even when I've just been typing in microsoft word I really don't have a clue what is causing this but I have to assume it has something to do with the norton software installations as it never done this previous to these installs. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the norton softwares but to avail. Its not a major problem as I just simply close the identity login box when it does appear but it is rather annoying

My OS is ME and the version of Outlook Express is 6.

I would be grateful of any help/advice to eradicate this annoying little critter

My wife just got a new computer running XP Home Edition. I installed MS Office 2000 on it. I then set up an account for her AT&T email. Each time I try to get her email it says there was a tcp/ip problem with the server. So I can't send or receive. Yet when I do this EXACT same thing with Outlook Express on her computer it works.

When downloading email messages from a account into outlook express, ALL messages are recieved in duplicate. When 1 of these duplicates is deleted it goes to the trash bin, however, when reopening the program the deleted item AND the item left in the 'in box' disappear? Nothing on the server, in the in box or trash box?
This is a problem associated with importing the account into outlook express. Any ideas?

Answer:email (msn) and outlook express

First off. You don't have any rules set up in OE, do you? If you do, then one or more of these rules could be affecting it.
Assuming the problem isn't with rules, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance, and see if "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder upon exit" is checked off.
Now, go to Tools, Accounts, select your account then click Properties. Now click on the Advanced tab, and make sure that "Leave a copy of messages on server" isn't checked off.

If neither of these help, then I would recommend scrapping your old settings, remove your old profile and re-create it, to ensure that the mail client is configured properly.

can only open outlook express folders & email in safe mode, outlook express 6, windows xp service pack 2. have tried installing ie 8, same problem. deleted email folders, in safe mode, Have reset internet explorer, and was able to open folders when I rebooted, I then restored the inbox.dbx, and again could not open eml. Is it possible that one of the emails is corrupt, the problem occurred after a power outage.

Answer:outlook express email

judyk123 , "Is it possible that one of the emails is corrupt" that'd be my guess. Since you've tried multiple versions of OE. Think I'd delete the inbox and try it again. Individual mails'd be better, but dunno how you'd open them.HTH.Ed in Texas.

I receive daily about 50-75 emails stating that my email cannot be sent. These emails are attempting to be sent to email addresses that do not even exist anymore. They were in my address book years ago. Of course there are also some emails that do still exist and are being sent to them about "work at home". I am not sending these and do not know how to get them to stop. I have ran my norton anti viurs software but I am not "computer smart" so do not understand how to correct this. Help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Two very useful tools for removing viruses and rootkits are below.

I would run this tool; McAfee Stinger

[ McAfee Stinger detects and removes prevalent Fake Alert malware and threats identified in the "List Viruses" section of the Stinger application. While not a replacement for full fledged antivirus software, Stinger is updated multiple times a week to include detection for newer Fake Alert variants and prevalent viruses.

Details on new or enhanced signatures added with each Stinger build are listed in the Readme details.]

Followed by; Sophos Virus Removal Tool

[ Scans, detects and removes any rootkit that is hidden on your computer using advanced rootkit detection technology.]

Between them, these tools will find and clear even the newest of strains.

Before going about the scan, I would disconnect yourself from the internet.

Best, Crit.

Answer:Outlook express email with 1 and 1

1. You will have a POP3 mailbox on your oneandone web package, and you'll have been given a username and password. You will also have been given the POP3 server address.2. Create a new identity in Outlook Express. You do this from File/Identities/Add new identity.3. When asked if you want to set up a mail account say yes.4. Follow the prompts and enter the POP3 mailbox username and password for your oneandone domain name. For the outgoing (SMTP) server enter the same details as for your present mail account - i.e. the one for your ISP. Enter the email address that you want to use - [email protected] Now, when you want to send and receive as that identity just go to File/Switch identity and select the new identity - the mail will go out under your new name.If you want to check the inbound mail from the new box without switching identities you can do it by adding a new account under your present(default) identity. Just go to Tools/accounts and click the mail tab. Click to add a new mail accouint and follow the prompts. Outlook Express will then check your new mailbox for inbound mail whenever you do a normal send and receive using your present identity.Does that help?

When I send emails with this new stationary, recipients either cannot see the picture, repeat versions of the picture obscure the email text, or their computers lock up when they try to reply.
When I send messages to MYSELF, they come through just fine.
Since this stationary is critical to my startup business, I need to have a way to insert my business's logo into my emails reliably. Help!

I am getting the same SPAM email 100 times a day. I have tried blocking but it keeps coming. What can I do?

Spammers are too clever to use the same email address and so they clone addresses often hijacking valid ones. This means that attempts in OE to block a particular address are unlikely to stop the flow of spam into your mailbox. Similarly you could try blocking based on certain words but this requires an extensive amount of work to set up. There are a number of Spamkillers around that will help by identifying the spam but if you want to stop it entering your OE account in-box then the best option is to consider using something like MailWasher. click here

Hello :))My wife and I share a Wanadoo internet connection. We have our own users on XP, and separate email addresses (on the same ISP account). However, when we pick up mail, downloads both email accounts into the one (XP User) inbox. Because of this we keep missing mail which has gone into the wrong box.Is there any way to get the emails separated and posted to the correct inbox ?

Answer:Email in Outlook Express

Not sure but worth a try.Open Outlook Express and select Tools > Message Rules > Mail.In order for separate email accounts to drop into separate folders you need to ensure that message rules similar to the following have been created.Click on New Rule, in the top section check the box that says 'Where the to line contains people'.Select the words 'Where the to line contains people' and type in the email account. Then in the box 'Select the actions for your rule' check the 'Move it to the specified folder'.In the third box select the specified folder to move the messages to.Save the message rule - repeat as necessary for each separate email account.Hope it helps.

Why didn't you make it your default email client? Do you get some kind of error message? You will have to provide more details.

Did you set up your account with the proper POP3 and SMTP information provided by Peoplepc?

Ok, so I've been using Outlook for my email for a long time. I'm connected to Verizon as my isp so I've checked over all those settings and they're ok.

The main problem is, on one of the accounts, I cannot recieve email. I don't know what the problem is. I've sent test emails to myself and never recieved them, I've tried every setting throughout the menu's also. I just can't recieve mail with that one account. It's also my main one so I'm at a loss here.

Another problem is that OE takes a fairly long time to start up. I never remembered it taking that long to start. Probably around a minute to start, then if I want to switch accounts, it takes around another minute. It just seems like to long of a pause.

Like I said, I've been through almost all, if not all, the settings and I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have some old, saved emails saved to my computer desktop that was orginally from another computer. When I click on one of the email files (because I had organized emails into different folders), it says:

Do you want to open or save this file?
I clicked OPEN (I hope that was right)

But, when I click that, it keeps popping up the same box asking if I want to open or save this file.

The Best Buy Geek Squad person said that he:

- backed up the Identitied folder
- Created a new Identity and imported files and address book, but it didn't populate
- also saved .pst folder (80kb size) but didn't populate.

He said I need to import identities folder.

Now I have no idea what the computer terms populate and .pst are. Hopefully someone out there can help me! Thanks!

a friend of mine has his own domain (say and his email is for example [email protected]; he wants to send emails to his clients (say 's contacts; but his clients prefer him to send it using the address. (and he does have a valid email account and he can access it via webmail)

so in outlook express, i set up so that the email address and the display name is from [email protected] but the pop3 and smtp server are still his actual domain and his incoming login is still [email protected] with appropriate password

now , the first batch of email he sent out was fine without problems; but the second batch of emails that he sent out, when he did a send/receive all, it kept prompting him for a password as if the password is not correct, and when he hit cancel, the error says that the password for [email protected] is rejected.

that confuses me because if the way i set it up is not correct, then why did it work on the first batch of emails?
Also, the mail is not in outbox but in sent mail, does that mean it was delivered to all the recipients or it's in cyberspace somewhere?

Hi guys,

I have a friend that is using XP SP2 with Outlook Express and running Nortons Antivirus 2005...everything is updated, he can recieve email but he cannot send email. He gets this error "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection..." I checked his cable modem with another laptop and the other laptop works sending and recieving his email account fine...

He can recieve it fine, but not send. I disabled all firewalls including the Windows one, I checked all the incomming/outgoing settings and all is good. I also turned off the incomming and outgoing mail scanning in Nortons and same thing. I also completely disabled nortons and doesn't send and I even uninstalled Nortons and still can not send. I installed another program (thunderbird) and I still get the same error. I scanned the internet and it seems that Nortons seems to cause this problem alot?

Well, since I uninstalled the program and it's still not working , is there a way to repair the SMTP in Windows?

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Can't send email...outlook express

Hi kalisun

Can you post the exact error message? It usually has an error code number.

Does the ISP require authentication?
Check the account settings in Outlook Express:
Tools > Accounts > (Account Name) > Properties > Servers tab
Is the option: My Server requires authentication checked?
If so, click the Settings button, which option is selected there?

If Use same settings as my incoming mail server, is selected, select the option: Log on using:
and fill in the User Name and Password for the mail server.
Apply, OK to save and close and test it again.

Let us know if that makes a difference.

Hi parrott

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

How many Identities do you have in Outlook Express?
File > Identities > Manage Identities

When you Imported the messages were you able to Import messages from your original Identity or were you prompted for a password?

Note the number of Identities in Outlook Express, then locate the Message Store directory for you current Identity.
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder button
Note the directory, or Copy and Paste the directory into the Address Bar of Windows Explorer.

It will look similar to this:
C:\Documents and Settings\User Account Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Long Number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

In Windows Explorer, navigate up several levels until you reach the Identity folder. Inside the Identity folder, you should see several folders with long numbers enclosed in {curly brackets}, one of those folders contains the .dbx files for your original Identity. If you found three Identities in Outlook Express, you should see three folders with a {Long Number} file name.
Copy the folder with the {Long Number} to the Desktop that you believe contains the .dbx files for the original Identity.

Switch over to Outlook Express, and try the Import again, this time instead of selecting an Identity, select: Import mail from an OE6 directory
Browse to the folder on the Desktop, drill down to the Outlook Express folder.
Click OK, Next, Next to start the Import.

If the messages you are l... Read more

I use Mailwasher to check my email before i actually processes it to OE.

I hope this gives someone enough information that they can help me.

Hello guys.
My dad uses outlook express for his emails. A month or two ago, all his emails disappeared from his computer, so he took it to a service centre to fix the problem.
Now it happened again, but he is leaving on a business trip today, so he has no time for a technician.

He uses outlook express along with IE5 and WinXP. If anyone has heard something about this, or know a solution, i would greatly appreciate it, for he needs those mails, and he's not very good with comps.

Answer:Outlook Express Email Disappearance

I know several reasons causing this problem:1. Outlook Express settings. Run OE and Click View | Current View and be sure it is set to "Show All Messages". Also verify that "Show replies to my messages" is not checked or you will see only replies to your messages.2. Antivirus software. Sometimes happens Outlook Express *.dbx files (files where OE stores messages) are deleted by antivirus software. For example older versions of McAfee VirusScan are known to delete DBXs. If this happened I'm sorry to say your messages are lost. 3. Damaged *.dbx file. In the case of a damaged "Inbox.dbx" file, a new Inbox will have been created automatically, and will now be using the file "Inbox(1).dbx" or similar. However the original Inbox.dbx will still exist. Locate it by going to OE store folder (Tools | Options | Maintenance). Then you can try to extract messages from this file using DBXtract tool. Also, I recommend to backup your OE messages periodically to prevent such situations. I'm using outlook express backup from abf-soft. Simple and handy (not an advertising, just sharing the experience).
