Preferred Solution: how to read the audio in bytes java coding

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Pls. lemme know if there is...something....

Answer:Need help in Java coding---

I'm not sure off hand whether there are any built in functions to do what you've just asked...

Is it feasible to read the entire file into memory (so if the file isn't ridiculously large in size) and load it into a nice data structure/array thereof.
Then you could use a fairly simple for loop based off the number of records per page etc to just display a subset of the array...

Hi guys, i'm new here, and I need some help badly. Up untill now, my dvd-ram drive has been working perfectly, reading any type of disc with no fuss. All of a sudden, it now decides that it does not want to play or read audio cds properly. in my computer, it says the cd is no 0 bytes big, and there is 0 bytes free. When i look on the cd, all the files are worth 44 bytes, and they display as 1kb respectively.

I have had this problem once before, but managed to sort it out, but now i can not remember the method to sort it out.

please help!

Did you install something CD/DVD related? Or did you try to play a copy-protected CD?

That part looks normal to me (at least in Windows).

Hi, I'm learning java (haven't done alot yet). And I have to write a program to take a line of text from the user, and encode it so that each letter become a letter 13 down the alphabet. Ie. A become N, B becomes O.. Z becomes M... etc.
I started off having a go with this (in pseudocode, and skipping all the import and class stuff at the beginning):

DISPLAY "enter a line of text"
String = Input1

String aa = input1.replace('a', 'n');
String ab = aa.replace('b', 'o');
String ac = ab.replace('c', 'p');
String ad = ac.replace('d', 'q');
.....etc.
String az = ay.replace('z', 'm');

DISPLAY az

Now of course that doesn't work. As it encode it and then decodes it back again. So I'm at a loss of how exactly I'm supposed to complete the task. So far I know about If Statements, Do While Statements, Counting and Event things and a few other more basic things.
Is there a quick way to use the replace command to change all the text to a letter 13 down the alphabet? I know the way I tried to solve it was very tedious, so I'm sure there must be a quick way. But I'm at a loss to work it out.
Can somebody please give me some advice. Please don't post the code for the problem completed. I need to do my own work on this, I'd just like some help on using the replace command (if its needed for this problem), or any other way to complete it.... Read more

I am trying to create my first Java program that includes two classes,(so yes, I am kind of a noob) and I have been wrestling with the same error code for more than a day now. At this point, I have not made any changes to the programming in my initial class, because I cannot get the new class to compile as of yet. Here is the entire code that I have created for the new class, which will not have main method *** all execution will take place in the other class. The exception that it keeps throwing is, "Illegal start of expression," and it's throwing that error for all three "system.out.println" lines in the final method. For the life of me I cannot figure out what's wrong, can anyone help me?

I've just spent a few hours struggling with this java problem. Here's exactly what I have to do:
"The Hangman Game -
The hangman game is a game of guessing words. You will be playing this game with the computer in charge of the game. Suppose the word you have to guess is:
programming
The computer would start by displaying the word with each letter replaced by an asterisk:
***********
Number of mistakes = 0
Wrongly guessed letters = “”
Letters available = “abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz”

That display means that so far you have not made any mistake and the set Wrongly guessed letters is empty.
You are then asked to play a letter. Suppose you play letter “m”. The computer would display:
******mm***
Number of mistakes = 0
Wrongly guessed letters = “”
Letters available = “abcdefghijklnopqrstuvwxyz”
Next suppose you play letter “e” which is not one of the letters of the word. Then the computer would display:
******mm***
Number of mistakes = 1
Wrongly guessed letters = “e”
Letters available = “abcdfghijklnopqrstuvwxyz”

And so on until you successfully guess all the letters in the word, or until you make, say, eight mistakes.
You are required to do the following:
(NOTE: You may assume all input is in lowercase and all input is correct.)

• First, design and create a class called HangMan to represent a game. (If you freeze the game at a point in time and observe its state, then what do you see? What would constitute the state of the game? How would th... Read more

So, I downloaded a program the other day that has created problems similar to ones I read about on this forum. It has been running iexplorer in the background under my processes, along with the audio of ads for bleach, a trivia game, and toothpaste. It was popping up a Java error as well, and I got a pop up window at one point with a porn ad, though I was not actually connected to Wi-Fi at the time. I tried running AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Windows Defender, and rkill.exe, but none of them caught the problem.Unfortunately, I may have broken what appears to be one of your main pieces of advice. I know enough about computers to try to fix it myself. I found some programs on my "Add/Remove Programs" log that were obviously malware, so I uninstalled them. I also unchecked a box that was under "Startup" in msconfig that appeared to be a problem. Having done all of this, the visible/audible problems seem to be gone, but I am concerned I didn't get everything. I hope I haven't gone too far and cut off your ability to help me.I have attached the DDS information. I tried running the GMER scan several times, but it froze my computer before the scan completed.Any kind of help you can provide would be wonderful! So Im working on a customer's computer that reads the hard drive at 50GB, but the main users folder reads zero bytes. I did find a backup folder that has 20GB. I hooked this hard drive up to another vista box and it still has the same issue. I also ran NTbackup on the computer from a XP machine and it only backs up the 20GB backup drive and everything is still zero? would this have something to do with bit locker or encryption?

Answer:Vista hard drive reads 50GB, but folders read zero bytes?

Hi -

Bitlocker, It is designed to protect data by providing encryption for entire volumes. So, I assume this could be the problem, why not just UN-Block what's been blocked?

Another issue could be that the folder or file that's fat could be hidden. You could use a neat program jcgriff2 told me about called Altap Salamander, it's free and will view "hidden" files/folders.

You could do as follows :

On a relative's HP laptop running Windows 8, she had a problem where burned CD-R audio discs showed up as empty and wouldn't play, no matter what program you used. This was odd, because it's the SAME CD-ROM DRIVE that was used to burn them. Immediately I suspected some kind of driver issue, so I uninstalled the default driver and then rebooted. When Windows automatically reconfigured/loaded the CD-ROM drive, the PC was finally able to see and use the media that had been burned on its own CD/DVD drive. Launching WMP resulted in music being played.

However... I'm still seeing an issue that has me perplexed. When looking at an audio CD-R or commercial audio CD in the DVD/CD-ROM drive, it always shows as containing 0 bytes. You can still see the track ".cda" files listed, which individually show a minimum of 1K size in the file listing display. Oddly, checking those files individually actually results in 2K shown for the details. I completely understand why 0 bytes free would show because the CD was finalized, but shouldn't the amount of bytes occupied by audio media show up with a particular byte count?

I haven't been able to find any information about this searching on-line, so I figured I'd ask here. Anybody have a clue?

Answer:CD-ROM properties for audio CD's shows as 0 bytes--why?

First, there are NO drivers for any CD/DVD drive other than the built in Windows drivers. But an uninstall of the drive in the Device Manager then a PC restart and Windows detection and reinstall will fix many Windows corruption problems.

I do a lot of audio CD burning as I have a recording studio.

What you are seeing displayed is correct. I don't have an answer to why it shows up that way. Here is what one of my CD's shows:

Out of curiosity, this query is posted. All the files, whether image, text ,Audio or Video are ultimately made up of strings of 0s and 1s. That being the case, is it possible to view an audio as a picture after performing some appropriate action and likewise listen to an image as an audio.Thanks in advanceviswam

Answer:Bits & Bytes of converting images to audio

Well...yes, although it might not sound like much...Normally a viusal-indicator of audio is called a spectrograph - it shows you the frequency of sound being generated - it looks something like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...Now, you can get some software that will embed images into a spectrograph - here's an example. This is off an Aphex Twin album, he embedded a face in the song:http://www.bastwood.com/aphex.phpIf you read the post, the author talks about some software to do the same. Hmm, there's also software for converting images to sounds...I saw a cool one years ago, I can't find it again now...but here's a few that google turned uphttp://www.databaseaudio.co.uk/appl...

Setting up readyboost and all goes well

After a couple hours or so when i go to my computer and do a right click properties on the readyboost usb drive im using it shows

0 free bytes
0 used bytes

0 for everything...is this normal?, vista detects it and it passes all readyboost test when i initially plug it in and it speeds up my system alot since i only have 1g of RAM, however after a couple hours it seems much slower.

Answer:Should my readyboost drive in vista be showing 0 free bytes/ 0 used bytes?

I haven't used that feature, but perhaps it has allocated the space to ReadyBoost so it doesn't get overwritten?

Ok I just spent about three hours looking in this forum to solve my problem and no dice.

Here it goes: I'm running xp pro and I have a Norcent RW-481 48x12x48 CDRW probably not the best brand but oh well. I'm using Nero 6, InCD is not installed.

The problem: It does not recognize any data CD's or any CD's that the drive itself writes. I can play an audio CD, which elimates (I think) that the read lense is dirty and I can burn a CD, which elimates (I think) that my burn lense is dirty. I'm mentioning dirty lenses because a post in this forum suggested that a dirty lense may be the problem. So, before taking things apart I wanted to post in the forum the problem. Any other suggestions of what else I can look for?

More info: I even switched around the jumpers from cable select to master, same result.

I really believe I have a setting wrong in my XP pro operating system. Any suggestions????? :cronfused:

Lastly, The drive is recognized corectly in device manager

Forgive me for reposting this thread, but I didn't know exactly what category to place it in.

When I live steam video in Windows 8/Chrome, using Adobe Flash, the audio portion is silenced each time I receive an audio prompt from my system. When I say "audio prompt" I mean a beep that I believe provides some sort of notification. The video continues, but all sound disappears for a few minutes when it then reappears. I have a dual boot system. The problem only exists in Windows 8. In Windows 7 I do not have this problem. My Chrome is fully updated, which means, I believe, that my Adobe Flash is also current. I disabled (or at least attempted to disable) audio alerts in Windows 8 and in Outlook 2007 and GMail (my email clients), but the audio alerts persist as do the disruptions of Java Live streaming audio. Any ideas or suggestions for fixing this problem - either by disabling all audio prompts or solving the problem of sound disruption in Java Live Streaming.

My current total sent bytes almost doubles my total received bytes. If I don't reset my router, this will continue at an exponential rate. After a few hours my sent bytes will be almost 4 to 5 times more than my received and continue to climb.
I've tried to troubleshoot where all this sent information is coming from by running numerous virus/malware/rootkit scanners, of all different brands. AVG, Avast, SnD, Adaware, etc., netstat, all with zero unusual results.
I even unplugged all data cables from my router, reset the router, and then connected to it with my phone, which made things more confusing. After resetting and connecting with my phone, the router then began to use my phone to send a large amount of bytes.
What could be causing this? Could the router itself be piggybacking whatever is connected to it to send out information? If so, what could it possibly be sending in that manner?

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.

hey Guys,

I had a very healthy version of XP media center formatted with NTFS FS. I had my D drive as the OS drive and my C drive was my storage drive...dont ask how it got there but it was a series of me playing around with Disk mirroring and drive swapping.

Anyway when I upgraded to windows 7, it now parked my D drive as my C drive and my C drive is now my D drive...no problem there however windows sees the drive as being 0 bytes in size and 0 bytes used. In my BIOS everything is still fine however Windows cant see my 500GB drive. I also noticed I have the option to set the partition active where I the other drive has this option greyed out. Should I set this partition to be active? Will this erase any data on my drive?

THanks

SG

Answer:Disk has 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free

I helped someone else out in the exact problem as you.

I'll give you the information. You're definitely welcome to ask questions, but I suppose it's up to you to decide what you want to do.

In his situation, he could boot to another operating system (XP and Vista) to access the drive but under 7, it had 0 bytes.

So I had him copy everything he needs off the drive in the other OS. Then I told him to low level format the drive. After doing that, the drive was read well inside Windows 7.

My best advice to you is to backup the hard drive by any means possible to another storage medium. Even if that means taking the drive out of your computer and placing it in another one running XP or Vista.

Then perform a low level format on it once you are satisfied your data is secure on the backup medium.

Tried doing a search for this and came up empty. My problem in a nutshell is that I'm having difficulty reading data CD's. I was re-installing my OS due to too much corruption of data and viruses so I'm start from a scratch in terms of OS files.

To be noted: Manufacturer's install disks used ghost to install a new copy of the OS. Had to open and close the CD drive bay a few times in order to get the final CD be able to be read and complete the installation.

What I've tried:
update driver - no improvement
Uninstall Drivers and restart - no improvement
manually download driver - no improvement
tried using generic CD Drivers - no improvement

Specs:
OS: Windows XP home.
Downloaded all updates. inc: SP2
Emachine T3065
Memory: 2GB
CPU: 3 GHZ

After browsing around google for a while, I came across a similar problem which suggested the cabling might be the cause of the error. as audio/video are past through different pars of the cable than data.

Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can't read data cd. can read audio

Ignore the cable issue, that's unlikley to be the problem
Analog audio is on a different cable, but thats seldom used by any PC these days.

The clus here is that it was dying at the end of the install by the sound of it. The laser output may have decreased to the extent that audio only is recognised due to the better reflectivity.

Start thinking about a new drive, but you would have checked all the cables anyway one assumes?

Windows 98SE
Sony DDU 1621 dvd rom

I need a simple explanation that tells me how to get my dvd rom to read data disks. It only reads audio disks and opens all disks in Windows media player. I dont understand how associations work.

Help would be much appreciated

Carolyn

Answer:DVD Rom will only read audio....how do I get it to read data?

No it doesnt read dvd's, but I am not really concerned about that, I dont think I have the memory anyway (64 mb ram). My old cdrom had a mechanical problem and I needed something to read disks, so I bought it from a garage sale and I downloaded the software from the Sony site. It used to function normally and read data files.

I want to format the harddrive and I need to know that the dvd rom will read my win98 disk cos it isnt at the moment. I dont understand how to do anything in file types.....is where the problem lies? Or is it in the cdrom properties settings area.

Hope this triggers something in you........I appreciate your help

Hi there,

I'm trying to run through the REAM ME FIRST steps and can't do the very first one, ie. flush the JAVA because it doesn't seem to exist anywhere. Not in program files, not in x86, not in control panel, not searching via the charm.

On windows 8.1 and all my browsers other than safari are taken over by conduit. Should i just go straight to TDSSkiller? I flushed all the other cashes, did the DNS flush and am now resetting the router to factories.

Thanks.

Hello.

I was wondering whether anyone could tell me, whether I have written the below program correctly:
Code:

import java.util.*;
public class Task5bDW
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{

int d = 0;
int i = 0;
int n = 10;

do {
d++;
n /= 10;
} while ((d == 0) && (n != 0));

System.out.println(d);

}
}

Because 'n' is currently set to 10, the program is supposed to output the result:
0
1
(It should start at 0 and count up 1 for every digit in the value of 'n'.)

But at the moment, it only outputs 1, no matter what I set 'n' to.

Any help/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm having trouble with this assignment. I haven't learned this stuff yet and not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

This is what I have been told to do:

Quote:
Your starting point of this assignment are the GreenhouseControls.java, Events.java. and Controller.java in the programs/c08 and programs/c08/controller directories in the ICS4M handout drive. You are going to modify these programs to show you the various ways you can build on the basic design model using the capabilities of Java. The assignment is divided into three parts to help you organize your programming efforts. The intermediate stages serve as checkpoints for you, you submit only the final program.

Part 2

In this part, you will modify the program to read the events from a file.

Modify Restart() to start the system by reading in the system state from a file specified on the command line:

java GreenHouseControls -f examples.txt

The -f argument must be present. It serves no pupose in this assignment but is needed in a future assignemtn. The even information must be in the format specified like this:

addEvent (new Bell (tm + 9000));
addEvent (new ThermostatNight (tm));
addEvent (new LightOn (tm + 1000));
addEvent (new WaterOn (tm + 3000));

I am prepping my machine for removal of a spam-generating malware, and stumbled on the READ ME FIRST step 3 (House Cleaning)

When trying to uninstall J2SE Runtime Environment using Windows "Add or Remove Programs" I receive a couple different errors. One is: " You already have this version of the JRE installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove program utility before reinstalling"

The other error asks for a CD or valid web address before continuing.

Can I skip the J2SE removal, or is there another method?

Hello.

I was wondering whether anybody could possibly tell me why, the below Java program doesn't output anything to the screen when I run it.
It's supposed to print the sum of square numbers between 1 and 10. It compiles without a problem, but for some reason when I try to execute it, it just jumps straight to the end of the program and I have no idea why?
Code:

import java.util.*;

public class SquareProgram {
public static void main(String args[])
{

int n = 10;
int square = n*n;

square(0);

sumOfSquares(0);

}

public static int square(int n)

{
int square = n*n;

return n*n;

}

public static int sumOfSquares(int n)

{
int sum = 0;
int square = n*n;
int i;
for (i = 1; i <= n; i++)
{
sum = sum + square;

System.out.println("The sum of squares between 1 and "+n+" is "+sum+"");
}
return sum;

byte b[] = new byte[(int) f.length()]; //create a byte[] with the same length as the file
fis.read(b); //this reads from the beginning of the file, to b.length
//which we set to the length of the file,

I am reading memory usage (etc) from proc file system in linux.
Trying to do the same on windows7; i know I can get system usage data (CPU, memory) from windows task manager.

1)However I want to read such information programmatically in Java (now I read various ACPI, IPMI and process related files from proc files in linux). How can I read similarly in windows 7

2)I would like to read more than CPU and memory (ex: power, fan, temperature etc). Where to access such info and how to read them from java code

If there is file interface to all the system info (as in linux), I know I can open file in Java. Not sure if that is how it is supported in windows or differently

I’m not sure if I am posting in the right forum…but anyway…when I connect to the Internet I have noticed over the past few days my bytes sent versus my bytes received are nearly three times as much. Eg. Bytes Sent 2,500,000 Bytes Received 780,000,00. Also when I shut down explorer but am still connected to the Internet information is still be sent and/or received. I have run Norton but nothing is picked up, does anyone have a clue what this might be?

Thanks

Answer:bytes sent bytes received

It could be many things.

There is a thread on the first page of the security forum titled "Security Problem?..." by Chatton.

I recommend that you start there, After you have installed and run at least one Spyware program (e.g., Adaware, my favorite because it is simpler), then download and run Hijack This (there's a link in Chatton's post), copy the log and paste it here.

Don't do anything, just paste it here, and we'll take a look at it.

Good Morn. Can someone explain in simple terms what the values in "bytes sent and bytes received" represent. Are these collective results for each on line session or for each independent download, sent from whom, received by whom, and is the received always larger by nearly 10 times. This question was asked by my grandson and I had no answer. Thanks in advance for any help

Answer:bytes received/bytes sent

Hi

Yes you have the description of bytes sent and recieved correct.

Basically its you sending the bytes of data to the internet when you click on a link or open a webpage, its basically you saying "send me this page"

then the bytes recieved are the websites saying "ok here you go, here is my webpage" also when you click to download a file or application this adds to the bytes recieved, which is why recieved is much higher than sent as sending a request for a webpage doesnt send much data a few kbs, but if you download an application, music or picture etc they could be 1mb ~ 100mb+

Hi all,

I am in the process of developing a Java application and want to include some live streaming audio in it. It will need to function like an RSS feed. To simplify it, we will have one person at a computer speaking into a microphone (let's say broadcasting the news), and that will transmit out to anyone using the application.

Does anyone have any advice on existing software (preferably open source) that can do something like this?

I'm very much at the beginning stages of this implementation.. I guess I just have the idea and I am looking for some guidance where to start.

Also, no podcasts.

Thanks for any insight,

Hi - I have a ton of online training modules I have to do for my new job that require a fair amount of memorization.  The training involves me signing in to the training site, picking a course and clicking through the pages while a recorded voice reads through the text on the page.  It's somewhat interactive and is broken up into chapters with quizzes.  Each course is about 3-6 hours.

It's fairly complex stuff for me and I want to record only the audio portions once I've finished a course so I can replay in my car.  I'm a territory manager and I cover a multi state area so I have tons of time to listen.  I've tried using the recorder on my cell phone placed next to my laptop speaker as I click through the screens but the recordings are awful and have a ton of background noises including my dog barking every 10 minutes.

I'm looking for an easy way that I can use something like the sound recorder on my laptop to record the sound signals going to the speakers rather that the input from the microphone.  My hope is that I can start a program, hit record, click through the pages of the course, and ultimately burn them to disc to play via the cd player in my car.

I'm not a super genius and I don't have 10 hours to figure this out myself.  The website appears to play the courses via Java and Flash and it may also use Shockwave.

Hi All

We are having CD troubles at the office!!!!!

there are three of us in our office and we have been having difficulty getting new blank CD's to be read in either our drives.

We have tried about 18 different cd's on 3 different computers and none of the CD's will read.

I have tried going into Nero and doing both a quick and a thorough format but the drive still wont read the CD's.

The first ones we tried were the generic staples brand (not really much of a shock that they did not work!!!) but we then bought a new package of the Maxell CD's and still did not work on either computer.

I then tried a burnt CD of my own with music on it and the drive was able to read that ok.

Has anyone else had troubles of this type??? Is there something else besides erasing/formatting new CD's that might get these to work?

If it was just my computer that was not reading them, I think I am having a driver or hardware problem but since it is all of us, I know there is something else that is wrong. Again, I know it is not faulty CD's because we have tried different CD's and differnt brands.

I hope that someone out there might be able to help with this problem.

Many thanks in advance

Does it hang with any CD?  If so, your CD ROM drive either needs cleaning, or it has died.  CDRW drives tend to have shorter lives than other drives and are very dirt-sensitive.

I have a gigabyte X58A-UD3R mobo and a 5.1 logitech speaker set.

At Windows 7, i have installed latest drivers for every single hardware I have

the issue I'm experiencing is this:

The rear speakers volume is so low and distorted,

When setting up the audio config utility, the setup test runs fine. It plays a sound on each of the speakers, it does it succesful. there's no issues here. same volume on each speaker.

But when playing music, videos or anything at all, @ rear speakers all I hear is a garbage/noise low sound.

I got this computer 6 months ago (built it myself), I have reinstalled win7 (32bit) 2 times.
But, it's a whole different story at Linux Ubuntu 10.04 (32bit)

The sound is perfect, i don't have the words to describe the perfectness when playing music.

It's nowhere near the quality when playing music @ Win7, not just the problem with the distorted sound at rear speakers, the overall quality is different. Feels like true environment audio experience, all 5 speakers independantly but synched with the bass and all... this is Ubuntu 10.04 install,. Of course, all 5 speakers have perfect quality music/sound.
I have emailed gigabyte tech support describing what I just wrote here, their answer was, the most vague one, ' I had a faulty system' (wtf?)

I'll reinstall one more time soon but before I do that, Anyone got any idea how to fix this ?

I got latest gigabyte aud... Read more

Having just formatted a disc and installed Windows 98 on it, I now find that when I need to access the disc to load drivers for cards etc, the system thinks that it is an audio disc and launches CD player. Also I cannot browse the disc. Yet other data discs are recognised and run without a problem. Please can anyone shed any light on this?

Answer:Windows 98 read as audio CD?

Maybe Windows did not load properly or the Windows disc is damaged or dirty. Clean the disc gently and see if it improves. Failing that, I can only suggest format and reinstall again but if the disc is damaged, you may be unable to install this time.

Packard Bell with XP Pro? Yikes!

Go into the Device Manager, and look for any yellow asterisks. If you find one under Multimedia Audio Controller, right click it and disable this device. This should stop the New Hardware Found message. Do you have normal sound on this computer?

Hi,

I have tried every possible option to get back my laptop's audio and nothing. I tried the "right-click on the blank spot option", but after I check the option "show disable devices" nothing appears. I had my audio (realtek) working until I updated some files suggested by the Windows Health xxx automatic updates. After that, I had problems with the mic but I still could heard. Trying to fix the problem of the mic I disabled the speakers (that was not a good idea, obviously). I definitively need help with this, I know nothing about computers. any idea?

Answer:No audio (at all). I have read other's solutions, they just don't work..

Could you list some of the things you have done please.
Have you gone to device manager and checked the sound driver file version
Did you enable the speakers again after disabling them
The posts here go back a long way.

I have winamp3 and it will not read audio cd's...i ahve been all thru the settings and all and can't find anything...well if anybody know's anything please post...thank u

Answer:(Resolved) winamp won't read audio cd's

options-preferences-cd playback

and uncheck "enable cd audio extraction"

That will turn off on-the-fly audio extraction and enable standard analog cd playback. (the eq won't work on CDs and the visualizations won't work unless you select the stereo mixer for a record input)

Then in the your sound cards mixer settings, make sure the volume for the CD drive is turned up.

Just remember that the CD Drive's audio output has to be connected to your sound card's CD input.
Now if it is uncheck, check it.

Usually though enabling CD audio extraction can cause problems on certain drives and on older systems.

This is driving me crazy! I cant figure this out at all. Please help! I am getting a real bad stutter and audio glitch on my computer like 5-10 minutes into gaming. Started literally a year ago, but was very minimal now it happens within 5 min like every time. It gets worse and worse, even when I close the game or even netflix (can happen there too) the problem will persist. I have tried testing my card with EVGA Precision X, and Furmark and my Graphics card said is running ok. I checked my CPU temps at the peak of this gltitchingt and it is only 51c, and my panel on the side of my comp is even open. I dont think over heating is an issue. Furthermore I did the Prime95 mem test check and says everything passed. I also wiped my hard drive and got an SSD, set that all up yesterday (thinking may be a hard drive issue, I had 980tb of 1k tb filled). Also completed re installed windows 7. And the problem is still there. I have no idea what this could be. Could it be a bad stick of ram despite my Prime95 test?? The Motherboard? (which I cant see) Do you guys know what can be causing this?? I checked my video drivers when I rebooted everything is updated as far as I can tell. Im also direct connectec via ethernet to internet. I can only think of it being the ram or the motherboard at this point. I will try to find a youtube video of what Im describing. Thanks for the help!

Sidenote: I had a GTX570 previously, and the glitching would happen then. I had a 450w psu at the time. I wa... Read more

i went to the dxdiag in run or whatever and i brought up direct x diagnostic tool. i clicked on sound1 tab and it has like the default for my sound and i go to test it and it doesnt work.....so i go to sound 2 tab and it has my creative live! 24 bit or whatever sound card and i go to test that one under the music tab and it WORKS! like i hear a brief clip of music.......so whenever i test that it works. under the music tab it has two descriptions of sound sources or something. one is 'microsoft synthesizer' thats the one that isnt working. and then theres the 'sound blaster live!' that IS working. HOWEVER - under 'default port' it says the 'microsoft synthesizer' is the default because it says 'yes' and the sound blaster live says 'no'. so how do i make sound blaster default?!!!?! i think this will solve my problem after over 14 hours !

I have a T61 with T7700 processor and a DVD Multi drive in it. I have been in contact with Lenovo tech several times and have tried multiple diagnostic attempts to find the problem. The computer has already been back to Lenovo in Tennessee once and was returned to me with the exact same problem. The computer cannot install MS Office 2007, 2003, or 1997. It cannot read audio CD's, yet it worked to burn a set of DVD system restore disks and worked to read and install the system from those disks. I temporarily replaced the DVD with a known good identical one from my daughter's T61 and it exhibited the same problem. Lenovo sent out a new set of restore disks (the tech suspected a bad original image) and I installed a new clean copy of Vista Pro. The same problem persisted so the computer was sent in to Lenovo for repairs. Lenovo (at my request) re-immaged the hard drive with a downgrade to XP Pro and removed a 3rd party ram stick from my computer stating that it was the cause of the problem. I received the computer back (very fast turnaround) and spent several hours updating all files on the XP install (as per their instructions) they provided to current. I then proceeded to try to install my MS Office. The drive would not recognize the disk. THEY FIXED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Today I had 3 conversations with a nice lady in Georgia and I ran a series of PC Doctor (F11 at boot) tests for her. CD drive always failed, one DVD test failed, but the "bad ram" passed all... Read more

OK, here's the prob. Friend has a MSI 48X burner. He had Nero 5.5.1 installed, EZ CD Creator 5 Platium, MusicMatch (all programs that might use the burner) He used Nero mostly for his burning, but a few months back, he couldn't burn more than a few tracks to an audio CD. The other day I went over to look at it, and when i put a disk in the CD-RW, nothing happened. So i opened up Windows Explorer, to check the drive. No matter what disk i had in, it would only read as a one track audio file. We've deleted all programs that would burn to CD, uninstalled and reinstalled the CD-RW, but still can't get it to work. Anyone ever experience this before??? It's an AMD 2000 cpu, on a ASUS mobo, with 256 megs of DDR.

Everything worked fine for the first 2 1/2 months, lots of CD's burned.

Answer:Disks are read only as audio track in CD-RW

I am a professional musician / performing arts instructor. In June 2011 I purchased a new Y560P 43972FU  Ideapad directly from Lenovo. At the time of purchase I explained to the sales rep that the audio is one of  the main reasons I'm purchasing this computer and that it would not be used to the fullest extent until the start of the school year.

He informed me that there is a 21 day return policy but if I experience any problems in September I can return the laptop for replacement, or full refund will be issued to my credit card. He also stated that a note will be attached to my file to that effect. For two months the laptop was used strictly for visual business and no attention was directed to the audio. In September I began to incorporate the laptop into my school office studio for student audio projects using the headphone out jack as the audio send. I immediately noticed snapping and popping in all program material when played through monitor speakers and studio quality headphones.

I have extensive hands on experience with pro audio equipment. The disruption can best be described as a one second burst of static ( a quick skip ) about 20 seconds into a song. It happens sporatically throughout the program material and repeats all over again on every new song. I immediately contacted Lenovo and was assigned a case #  and was told a tech would call me but he never did. After two days I again contacted Lenovo and asked for a supervisor and was put ... Forum member nasdaq helped to remove the last traces of a serious infection I picked up via a PDF (see that thread for background info here). nasdaq suggested I start a new thread here to fix the remaining problem.The computer has been scanning clean for quite some time now, but I am still experiencing DPC latency related audio dropouts that started with the infection. I have updated all of my drivers, the BIOS, Firefox, Java, Flash, and Adobe Reader.The dropouts tend to start when I interact with the operating system (minimizing and maximizing windows, going to Show Desktop, etc.), but they seem especially likely to start when I play online video or audio streams. When the dropouts start, I get an audio stutter once per second. This can go on for quite a long time even after all applications are closed and even with almost all devices disabled in Device Manager. Then the problem will stop and everything will work normally for a while.This is a typical example of what the DPC latency looks like when the dropouts begin.Any help will be appreciated.

On 12/5 I ran into an infected PDF that downloaded a few trojans, etc. I sensed what was happening and quickly loaded up a bunch of antimalware and detection programs. Sure enough, I had a rootkit infection and several viruses that were downloading files to the \LocalService and \NetworkService accounts via some kind of Java exploit. I threw everything at the problem including:

HijackThis, Trend Micro Housecall, MBAM, Microsoft Security Essentials, RootRepeal, RootkitBuster, TDSSKiller, Sophos Anti-Rootkit, catchme, mbr, GMER, and ComboFix.

Now my antimalware scans turn up clean, but I'm experiencing audio dropouts and DPC latency issues that were not happening before this infection. I suspect it is not totally cleared.

Here is what MSE found and removed to give some background about the infection:

My computer has stopped reading audio CDs in my CD-ROM drive, but can copy the CD onto my hard drive (with Windows Media Player). It will read a data CD. It was playing CDs a week ago. I think the only out-of-the-ordinary thing I've done since is download Webroots Spy Sweeper program.The Hardware Wizard says the LITE-ON LTR 24102M device is working properly. I have a Dell PC that uses Windows XP.

This question is similar to a couple already posted within the last week or so, but there have not been any replies yet. Hope that's not a sign. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone thanks for taking a few minutes to read about my ongoing issue.
I am NOT a newbie to Audio and how to troubleshoot problems, just to get that out of the way early That explains why I am asking for help, because I am stumped.
I am simply trying to play my Computer audio through the Home stereo amp.
( PC Gateway GX7018E computer running XP to my Denon Amp, Klipsch speakers)
I am getting a buzz through my speakers the very second I attach the 1/8 stereo cable to my computer. Its much like when you slightly pull out a guitar cable out of the guitar while the amp is still on, or when you slightly pull out any live cable for that matter out of an Audio System.
I have tried 4-5 different ways to eliminate this Buzzing sound.
First I plugged into multiple outputs 1/8th stereo of my intergrated sound card going into the amp and it buzzed the same.
Today I bought a new PCI soundcard to get away from possibly having noisy onboard audio. There was no change.
I thought ok, maybe the soundcard? So I bipassed it by installing my USB Audio Interface AND it has a Ground lift knowing the 60 cycle hum has to do with Ground issues or a ground loop. So USB into the interface then out of it into the amp using seperate RCA's, I tried 2 different inputs of the amp..Still buzzed even with the ground lifted on the Interface.
I took my GF's laptop on battery power and plugged the 1/8 stereo into it and into the amp...Silent! I thought hmm, maybe its the outlet? So I p... Read more

Hi,
I have an Acer Aspire 6920 running Vista home premiumx64 with a Slim Type DVD DS8A1P ATA drive. Recently this drive stopped reading all data discs, game dvds and some install cds. It will however read music cds with no problem. When I put any data disc in it just keeps attempting to run in short bursts for a couple of minutes then completely stops. Device mgr. says it is working properly. If I attempt to open the drive in "computer" it pops the tray open and says to insert a disc. No error messages at anytime. I have tried numerous things people have suggested such as deleting the values in the registry, removing the drive in device mgr. and restarting as well as updating the driver as some have suggested.

Hi Im having a problem and it is random audio advertisments and sounds not on my hard drive (some commercials...Crazy stuff). . I tracked it down to instances of IE that keep popping up in the task manager. It will occur even if i am not using IE. If i cancel it out in the task manager, the sound stream stops, but it will reappear in a few seconds. If you just sit and watch the Task Manager processes window, you will see iexplorer bouncing in and out, on its own, like some kind of sub-atomic particle in Hyperspace. Then it will stay there for a seconds and play another audio stream before disappearing again into the ether. I know when its about it do it because my screen will redraw(?). If im typing the cursor will disappear and i have to click on the screen to get it back. Or if im watching a video in full screen, it will switch back to normal view. I can then press the full screen button to restore the video, but it will return to normal view in a few moments because of whatever is going on.

Im using Vipre. It worked very well until in did something stupid and turned it off one day and forgot to turn it back on for 2 days. System retore has in fact been routed and other anti-malware programs (like malwarebytes') will not in stall now.

Please Advise. Thank You.

Answer:Unwanted audio from a hijacked IE *you've heard it before, but please read*

Did you ever get a solution to this issue?

My original post on this was locked, so I never had a chance to explain.
If you check the TSG Rules, you'll find that we don't help with illegal movie copies. I suggest you buy the DVD's, and then this issue will never come upClick to expand...

As I said in my last post, this is a BACKUP -- ie, a backup of a DVD I already own. There's nothing wrong w/ backing up media u already own -- it's called Fair Use and it's perfectly legal. I learned my lesson the hard way after my gf's stupid friend took my Babylon 5 DVD out of the DVD player to put in a music CD. She put my DVD on top of the speaker, it was rattled off by the bass, and somebody stepped on it. I had to buy the whole season again just to replace 1 disc Now I backup most of my DVDs, ESPECIALLY TV season sets cuz they're so expensive. Besides, my post didn't have anything to do w/ DVD ripping itself, it was more a question of RAM/processor priorities and/or conflicts.

Anyway, here's the original post:

I was listening to a radio station online yesterday when I started to make a backup copy of a DVD. As soon as I started ripping, the audio became all stuttered, like the comp was having trouble keeping up. And my ripping speed was about 1/2 what it normally is. But I can watch videos or listen to MP3s (that are on the computer, not streaming) while I rip no problem. So why would streaming audio cause so much lag? My CPU usage was about 70%... I don't remember what... Read more

Answer:DVD rip-streaming audio stutter (mod, read before locking)

It doesn't matter if it's a DVD you already own, it's illegal in the US to break the copy proteciton to copy a DVD for any reason.

I'm not going to debate this with you, it's something that we don't allow to be discussed here. Please do NOT keep posting this, consider this a formal warning.

I go to the cp, and go to the device manager and click on my sound devices, ATI High Definition Audio Device and IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, both have the yellow triangles. I disabled them and then enabled them but to no prevail. In the device status it gives me this message,
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

If I could get some help that would be great.
thanks

Answer:No audio output device, not responding to anything i have read on here

See THIS on disabling the driver signing. That fixed a CD drive problem and maybe will also fix the audio problems.

Just wondering if starting off with Java, if this would be a good book? I'm not really new to programming but haven't done a whole lot either.. I've done some java and c++, but very basic stuff. I'm interested in trying to pass the exam and possibly trying to find a job as a java programmer. Would it be possible without having a computer science degree to get a job?

I'm currently working in the IT industry but more as a Tech Support Specialist on the hardware side..

Any advise or thoughts would be greatly appreciated..

Hi people,

my Equium M40x with DVD Super Multi GMA - 4080N will read DVD's but not audio CD's or Data CD's. I have tried everything including deleting from the Device Manager and re-booting. The laptop sees the device and re-installs, but it still does not solve the problem. Audio/Data dics merely spin happily in the drive.

Any help much appreciated.

Answer:Equium M40x-189: drive can't read audio CD's or data CD's

Hi

It seems that the drive can reads DVDs but not any kind of CDs.
Usually such issues occur because of wrong lens calibration.
In this case only the drive replacement can solve the problem.

But this would be a last possibility to solve the problem.
Before you replace the drive try to install the DVD-ram driver from the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU

Furthermore I would recommend updating the firmware.

This is like a ghost in a machine issue of mine now, and it's been for a few months, killing me at this point as I can't figure out what it is... what happens is that while I'm working on the computer, everything is fine. As soon as I step away for a few minutes, and the PC is idle, the audio playing starts getting choppy/cutting off for no reason whatsoever. And it doesn't matter whether I am listening to a live stream or if it's something being played off any of my hard drives (Intel SSD with OS on it, two WD Green hard drives for storage).

And it goes on until I move the mouse and regain the control over the computer.

Rinse and repeat.

As soon as I step away from the computer, sometimes within minutes, this issue kicks in, and it sounds like the Windows is reading a huge file and it's clogging the pipeline of sorts, not letting the audio play smoothly, so it starts chopping it up (like a bad feed off the web without enough bandwidth to support smooth playback)... super weird.

Any ideas what it may be? Where to look? How to even begin diagnosing this thing?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Audio choppy when idle - songs getting cut, read issues?

I have a (Sonar) recording studio.

Does this happen with the Traktor Knontrol connected? If it is, disconnect it and see if it changes.

Also, if you have any custom settings in the RealTek HD Control Panel, disable those for testing.

Reinstall the RealTek, uninstall the RealTek in the Device Manager but DO NOT uninstall drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall it. If there were any Windows/Audio corruptions this will fix it.

Finally, if not of what I suggest fixes it, download and run the free Respledence Latency Mon.

Sat Pro (psaac) with DVD-RAM UJ-841S will not read or play audio cd's.
All rest works great but put in any audio cd and nowt.
Help?

Answer:Satellite Pro A100 (PSAAC) DVD-RAM UJ-841S will not read audio CD

Hi

As you know not every CD is compatible and supported by every optical drive.
May I ask you what audio CDs don?t work??? Are these original audio CDs or burned one???
You should know that many new audio CD?s are delivered with different copy protections and sometimes happens that such CD?s are not readable?.

But we should firstly find out if all need options are enable. For this you should enter the drive properties and check if the option ?Enable digital CD audio for this CD rom device? was enabled successfully.

hard drives don't burn discs or read them.

is it a dvd burner, cd burner?

you need to supply a bunch of detail before you can get an answer.
drive model, operating system

when it happens, how has worked before.

I recently replaced the hard drive in my 3 year old HP notebook. The original HD was an IBM Travelstar 20 gig and the new HD is an IBM Travelstar 40 gig. I am not sure if this is related to my problem but note it here just in case. After reloading my OS with factory provided restore discs as well as downloading other freeware such as hijack this and ad-aware se, my Sony CD-RW DVD combo drive will not read data or audio cds. It reads them as being blank cds and after the auto-run starts the box asking me what I would like to do with the inserted blank cd pops up. DVDs however play perfectly in the system. Obviously the drive was working when I reloaded my OS with the factory restore discs. I ran hijack this once after installing to establish an ignore list of installations on the restore that are not a regular part of my Windows XP Home but I have not deleted anything. I have upgraded the driver, un-installed and re-installed the drive, downloaded Windows updates (SP-1 and 2 and other patches) amongst other suggested solutions and have restored the computer back to when I first re-installed the OS all to no avail. The only thing I have not done is a complete reload of the OS. I have seen some solutions that speak about BIOS updates and configurations and HD partitions but they are in response to problems similar to mine but not exactly the same thing. I am reluctant to try those without more info. I am at this point thoroughly exasperated. I want to reload some picture and aud... Read more

Answer:cd dvd combo drive plays dvds but will not read audio or data cds

Well, here's what you can do to narrow it down to a software issue. You said the drive obviously was working when you reloaded your OS from the factory restore disks, which I have no dispute on. So how about rebooting with one of those disks in there again (the first one thats bootable), if it boots off of that again great, but be sure to cancel everything so it doesn't wipe your existing system.

Provided it boots from that your drive is still good, and it is something in Windows, something I can't think of right now though
