Preferred Solution: How to remove sites filed in W7 IE8 Favorites

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Like the title says.

First I tried drag-and-drop. Then the "add to favorites bar" star with the green arrow at the left end of the favorites bar. Finally selected the favorites bar at the top of the regular "add to favorites" procedure.

Has some kind of setting gotten locked? Or what?

Answer:IE 8 won't add web sites to Favorites Bar

and I forgot...

It's a four-day old PC. It's not that the favorites bar never worked. A couple of days ago I deleted all the links that the vendor had put in the favorites bar by default. Then I added 8 or 10 of my own. But today, no go.

Howdy,

I have many web sites that I have stored in" My Favorites". (40-50) I can not figure out how to bring the sites I most visit towards the top. (usually 4 to 5 sites I visit on a daily basis)

In other words ,I continually scroll down to try to find the sites I most frequent and try to pick them out of the batch.

Could someone please tell me how to organize " My Favorites".

I have given it a shot many times with no success.

Thank You for your time,

Dennis

Answer:Orginizing Web Sites In My Favorites

Hover your cursor over the link you want to move. Hold down the left clicker and move your cursor where you want the link. I know, that is about as clear as mud. If you have a problem with the instruction, I will try to do better.

The problems that I am having are:

1. In my favorites there are 4 porn sites that I can not get rid of.

2. Mt home page is set to http://your-searcher.com/index.htm I have tried to change it put it keeps coming back.

3. When I log off there is one program that will not shut down properly.

If you have the fix I would appricate it. As would my kids. They are band from the computer until the problem is fixed.

Here is my log file.

Netscape has this nice little feature to copy over all your IE favorites web sites but I'm curious...does IE have a similar feature? I'm using Windows XP Pro. I'm also running IE 6 on occasion and Netscape 7.1 primarily.

The reason I'm asking is that I want to have all my web sites from Netscape back over on IE just in case. Liz

When I try to save a web site to my favorites listing, I should get a box saying "create in" when I click on the star but all I get is the file or web site name but no option of putting it into an existing folder. I am trying this in Windows 10 using MS Edge. Why don't I have the "create in" option?

Answer:Problem saving web sites to favorites

I'm not into using Edge yet except for some specific sites but in my other Browsers I either right-click in the page and choose Save Page As or click File, Save. The pages are saved on the HDD in the Default Downloads Folder. And if important will also Bookmark them.

nothing and have no idea why this is happening.

Answer:Internet explorer will not save sites to my favorites

Hi,
First you can enter the website address
in Windows Explorer to check if it can be found.
Then make sure you did right as following picutures show;

Open a website by IE, then you should find  the golden five-pointed star as NO.1 show. After click Add to favorites options(NO.2), a window
Add  a favorites would pump up.Click
Add(NO.3).  After above steps, you would find that website in favorites folder.
.
If the problem not be resolved, you can try following methods:
Method1: Reset the favorite?s folder source and then try to save favorites and check if that helps.
a) Browse to the following location ?C:\Users\ (Username)\Favorites\?
b) Right click Favorites and click on Properties.
c) Click the Location tab and then click on Restore Default and Click OK.
Method2: Fixed the issue by selecting:
a)Control Panel
b)Internet Options
c)Advanced
d)Reset (Internet Explorer settings to their default condition)

I have a complaint similar to one posted on an earlier thread but never resolved:

My homepage is reset to "www.ziportal.com" each time I reset my computer despite changing my homepage each time I use the internet. I regularly delete these sites and set "use blank" and delete cookies and delete cache files. In addition to reseting my homepage to zipportal.com, the bug (or whatever it is) adds three links to my favorites menu: 1) "~ Fully categories porn database. Enjoy!", 2) "~ New Porn Pics everyday" and 3) "~ Series Hardcore Pic Sets and Movies". I tried using the most recent versions of Ad-aware 6 (with most recent updates) and Spybot - Search and Destroy. Nothing has worked so far. If anyone can provide some advice I would be very grateful. Below is my scan log from hijack this:

Hi phrontistery, and welcome to TSG..

You’ve been hijacked by CoolWebSearch. Please go here and download, unzip then run CoolWebShredder.

CWS installs via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM so just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

Then, once you’ve done that, please post a new log, and we'll see what's left.

For example:
List A 20 000 sites.
List B 9000.

I want to use list B to remove the the sites in List A .
The sites in List B are all in List A so I want to remove them.

Answer:I have 2 lists of sites. How can I use one to remove the sites from the other ?

You could use Excel's VLOOKUP() function IF and ONLY IF the format of both sites is identical in both.
Put List A is in column A. List B in column B.
You'd need to sort list A, the bigger one, on, let's say, site name.
Then in Column C you're write an expression to lookup what's in B in column A. If true, it'll list a matching value from column A, if not found it'll say "#N/A"
=VLOOKUP(B1,A:A,1,FALSE) - make sure False is at the end for exact match. "1" stands for column to match. If your list has more columns than one, tweak the formula.
Then in Column C setup auto filter. Select all the non "#N/A" and delete in A since those are in both lists.
Once caveat, I think excel will only permit you to use 16345 rows, approximately, in which case you'll need to work with two worksheets.

Really, what are these "sites" about? Perhaps the applications that make those lists can eliminate the duplicates. What if you merge the two lists?

Access can do similar thing for you with a query for common items. Read Help.

At the top of IE8, I have three bars displayed, the address bar, the menu bar, and the favorites bar. When I try to remove the favorites bar, all entries in the bar are removed except for a yellow star labeled ?Favorites?. The entire bar remains, using screen space. How can I remove this bar and the yellow star completely to recover the screen space?

Thanks, I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Answer:How do I remove favorites bar?

you can use regedit:

HK_Current_User-->Software-->Microsoft-->Internet Explorer-->Main

set Autohide to yes
also set fullscreen to yes if you want to get the most browsing area

restart IE

Now everything will be hidden. Move your mouse to the top of the screen and the command areas will appear.

You can toggle full screen mode with F-11, but I am unaware of how to toggle auto-hide aside from the registry. Maybe someone can post the key combination to toggle it directly.

Good luck!

A computer person changed my Favorites listing to Bookmarks listing as I thought the list would not form into a column as does Favorites (it is a long list). It is cumbersome to use. However, I would rather work from the left side of the page, (Favorites) than to have to cross the web page to the right side where (Bookmarks) are listed. Is it possible to change the list back to Favorites? I've noticed that since I go thru Google Chrome to enter Yahoo webpage, that the Favorites and complete toolbar are missing, AND AutoFill does not work either. What do I have to do to get all in working order. Donna

Answer:How do I remove the Favorites Bar Folder?

Go to upper right corner where you see a file called "Other bookmarks"
Right click on that and you will see a check mark for Showing bookmarks. Just click on that and your Favorites will go away.

There is also 3 lines on top of each other that list Bookmarks and when you click on it opens up and gives you the same option.

By the way... I am using Google Chrome to do all this.

I go into Explorer and delete them and empty my recycle bin and still they return the next day. This has been going on for a few months.

I have read threads saying to run Hijack this and I have run it but I am not sure which items I can delete. I was wondering if you could tell me which ones I should delete. AFter looking at the log nothing looks like an obvious unwanted item . I have not attached my log per your sites request.

Hello
I have used FF for past couple years and have no installed it.

One thing I liked is autocomplete (think that's what it is called) when I need to login somewhere, ie forum.
It won't show my username or password, but when I type the first letter or number, it will drop down if I want to select that username.
ie. If I type in "d" in the username, a drop down of doogie88 will show up, and if I click it, it will fill in the username and password.
But I don't want it to automatically log me in.

2) When I type in the URL bar I don't want my favorites to show up, how can I remove that?

3) Manage Addons window pops up every time I start the browser :(

I use my Favorites Bar in IE11 to hold a boatload full of links. I think it is easier to click on the >> and go to a new link than clicking on the Star to go to a new link.

I decided to use the Favorites bar in EDGE but I forgot that you cannot reorder the entries to put what I consider my most used favorites at the front of the Favorites bar. So I thought I would delete the Favorites Bar folder from my Favorites and create a new one from scratch with my most used favorites. I followed the links to get to the Favorites but the Favorites Bar folder is not there! Does anyone know where it went? Can I delete it if I find it or at least delete all but the entries I want? Or if those options are not available, does anyone have any idea how I can delete all of the entries in my Favorites bar without having to do them one at a time?

Thanks,
Z

Hi,
how do I remove all these extra folders from the Desktop/Navigation Pane? I don't even need to disable the functionality, just as long as I get rid of them in the explorer (in XP, there were those "My Places" folders, which could easily removed by deleting a registry key).

Thank you in advance!

BTW, I mean this:

Last night, using Ewido Anti-Malware 3.5, I let my computer scan for viruses over night. Agrivated and exhausted this morning, when I woke up to see the progress, I was greeted with a typical windows ultimatum: "Ewido Anti-Malware was unable to remove blah blah blah do you want to remove the whole archive? Yes, or No." To the best of my recollection, I clicked No. However... when I checked said "archive" (which happened to be my AIM Log folder for Dead Aim) more than three-fourths of it--2 years of logs--had been removed, and Dead Aim no longer worked. I've tried to find what was deleted by using the quarantine option, but I can't seem to find it. I'm not sure what else to resort to. Advice?

Answer:Recoverying a removed filed

Welcome to MajorGeeks.com, please follow our standard cleaning procedures:

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
CounterSpy
AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
Bitdefender - from step 6
Panda Scan - from step 6
runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

I need to reformat hard drive (virus demon strikes again!)
and want to back up my stored/received Outlook Express message files. Can't find them using noggin or search functions. Can anyone help?

Answer:Solved: Where are messages filed?

Hi csrogers

What file type you need to look for depends on what version of Outlook Express you have installed.
Outlook Express 4 and 4.01 use .mbx and .idx pairs and a .nch folders file, these would need to be saved.
Outlook Express 5 and higher use .dbx files. Save the files you want, but be sure to save the Folders.dbx file also, so that you can import the files back into Outlook Express.

To locate your message store in Outlook Express ver 5 and higher,
Open Outlook Express
Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store folder, will show you the path/location of your message store.

If you have more than one Identity setup (versions 5 and higher only) and want to save those files as well, you will need to locate the path/location the same way.

The following sites have more information on backing up and restoring files.

I was tweaking my boot.ini, (someone in another forum said I'd be safe making deletions)

And now there is no getting into windows. I tried safe mode and this does not work.
I have my XP PRo disk in now and tried to bypass the first repair option to get to the next one but only have a choice to reinstall.

So I am currently in recovery console and am wondering if any of these options can help me,, such as; FIXBOOT?

Or am I up a creek without a computer?

I am standing by if someone could please assist I'd be stoked,

Thanks

Answer:boot.ini filed altered cant get into windows...

In Recovery Console, type the following:

bootcfg /list then press Enter - that will show the current entries of your boot.ini file

then type:

bootcfg /rebuild then press Enter - your hard drives will be scanned for XP installations..all you have to do now is follow the prompts to complete.

E-mails from yesterday are not auto expanded, neither are folders older than 2 days old. Just the 2 day old ones.

I've done all I can so to set WM as my default, it says it's default, but when I try to open an email filed in docs, and I have WM set to be the default, the only thing that happens is WM which is already open pops up, but not the file I clicked on. I had to set WM back up after SP1 and I've done everything I could find on this board, but I'm totally stumped now. I've installed SetWinMailDefault, don't know for sure it went in, but I thank it did. What would happen if I used that again, or manually put it in the registry? Thanks for any help. Belle

Answer:WM will not open eml. files filed in docs

If you have a copy of "setwinmaildefault.reg" you can right-click on it and select "edit". But I notice that this registry edit is quite complicated so it would be very tedious to check all the entries or to do it manually. You can double click the reg file again. You can also post your question on the Windows Mail Tutorial Forum. I imagine the people over there are dealing with Windows Mail issues which is why they are there.

Identity Thieves Filed for $4 Million in Tax Refunds

How in the **** did these morons think they were going to get away with this forever? Even the IRS is smart enough to eventually catch on to this type of scam.

The thieves operated their scheme for at least three years from January 2005 to April 2008, allegedly filing more than 1,900 fraudulent tax returns involving about $4 million in refunds directed to more than 170 bank accounts. The conspirators used numerous fake IDs to open internet and phone accounts, and also used more than 175 different IP addresses around the United States.

My BBB complaint (after hours and hours of troubleshooting)
"Purchased XPS 13 9365 2-in-1 Computer has major sleep/wake issues when closing lid, computer will either not sleep at all and the battery just dies, or the computer will shut itself off after an hour and will have to turn the computer on. There are dozens of Google search results with thousands of customers having this issue since launch day. Dell has insisted that a BIOS update, then another BIOS update, then a chipset driver update will solve the issue. Well, I am one of the 99% that have had no success in this/these solutions. Contacted Dell numerous times via phone/support forums on Dell and Reddit.. without any resolution. For a 1,399 + TAX USD computer to have such a major defect from launch day, still without any concrete fix is irresponsible. Dell should be all over this, it's a flagship device. Dell has offered no effective solutions to me when I've contacted them directly numerous times. I am very technical. Background; Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. Original Dell support said that I should take it to have the motherboard replaced. I asked if there was a new motherboard designed since launch, he said no. This eliminates a hardware issue. No reason to take apart and replace a motherboard on 2 month old PC.

BREAKING: James Damore Just Filed a Lawsuit Against Google: on truthfeednews.com: BREAKING: James Damore Just Filed a Lawsuit Against Google

"Does Google discriminate against White conservative males?
Fired former employee James Damore believes they do, and is taking legal action.

As reported by TechCrunch

James Damore, a former Google engineer who was fired in August after posting a memo to an internal Google message board arguing that women may not be equally represented in tech because they are biologically less capable of engineering, has filed a class action lawsuit against the company in Santa Clara Superior Court in Northern California.
His claims: that Google unfairly discriminates against white men whose political views are unpopular with its executives.
Damore is joined in the suit by another former Google engineer named David Gudeman, who spent three years with Google working on a query engine. According to Gudeman?s LinkedIn profile, he left the company in December 2016 and has been self-employed since.
The lawsuit, filed by Dhillon Law Group, says it aims to represent all employees of Google who?ve been discriminated against due to their ?perceived conservative political views by Google,? due to ?their male gender by Google? and ?due to their Caucasian race by Google.?
More specifically, it accuses Google of singling out, mistreating and systematically punishing and terminating employees who ?expressed views deviating from the majority v... Read more

Hello, earlier today I received a steam message from one of my friends with a message along the lines of "please tell me about these photos" and was given a link to the dropbox site. I downloaded it and extracted it and double clicked on one of the files. The file is "IMG_15042014_200936.scr" if that is in anyway helpful. The file seemed to do nothing but I searched about it and it seems like it is some kind of virus. Promptly I ran AVG and Malwarebytes and removed anything that came up but I'm not sure if that was enough.

I was given this info. for (1) column:Between #1/1/2003#and#12/31/2003#

I created a form with multiple date columns. How do I run a query using multiple date columns.

Situation: I call for money-different days- same or different customers. I want to filter for calls for different days using multiple column.

Answer:Access 2000- filtering/ criteria/ dates/ desired filed

In the design of your query you will need to use "or" in order to receive mutliple dates. For example if you would like to see calls made on June 23 and calls made on June 5 and calls made between May 15 and May31 the criteria would state #06/23/03# OR #06/05/03# OR >#05/15/03 AND<#05/31/03#.

I tried to send an attachment with an example of the query in design view but it wouldn't send for some reason. Anyway, hope this helps!

Howdy everyone. I just joined this site today so I'm hoping I can get some help.

Well...to start, I have a almost 10 year old rebuilt computer (will be 10 years old December 2009), running Windows 98 w/o a printer.
Here's my problem.....I got an e-mail the other day from a family friend, clicked on it to open it, it started to open, stopped and I had to reboot computer. Now I can't receive e-mail into my Outlook. I get the follow error message:

"An Outlook Express store file may be damaged. Please use a utility such as ScanDisk to verify and repair any damaged files. Account: 'pop-server.allegiance.tv', Server: 'mail.allegiance.tv', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): "No, Error Number: 0x800C0155"

I used Scan Disk up teen dozen times over the last day or two, or three and it starts to check/fix folders for errors and it gets so far and quits and starts over again. I think it gets to that error and either can't fix it or won't fix it. From what I've been told, everyone is suprised that Scan Disk doesn't go all the way to fixing the error and finish it's job.

When I open my Outlook Express, it will check for mail, start receiving mail, then stops and gives me the error message again. So it wants to receive mail.....it just can't.

I've been also told that I may need to un-install Outlook Express and then re-install it. I hope that's not the case.
I'm all ears for tips, s... Read more

I have disable it in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and also deleted the button from my favourites bar but it just keeps on re-appearing after a few days. Personally I don't have Vista so I couldn't try it out myself. Hope the above works for you.

EDIT: if you already did the above then please disregard this post.

Try this (from the same link)

It will keep coming back in the Favorites Bar. To stop that, go to the dropdown arrow to the right of the IE8 search box. Select Manage Search Providers. For each of the listed providers that has Search Suggestions labelled as Enabled, click on the provider name, and select Disable Suggestions in the Search Suggestions line.Click to expand...

I am running windows xp pro sp3 with IE8. I have tried everything to try and remove the Bing browser and it keeps returning no matter what I do.
Does anyone have a fix for this.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:how to permanently remove Bing and Suggested Sites

EDIT: I just remembered something where you may not have to do any of the below. I never use IE so it slipped my mind. Go into IE's options, programs, manage add-ons. Right click any crap you see there and remove it if possible or disable it if removing is not an option. I would still go to add or remove programs and see if there's any crap there.

Well, try going into add or remove programs and uninstall IE8 and any other entry with Bing or MSN. You will have to reboot afterwards and will be back to IE6. Download Internet Explorer 8 and install it. This is the original version without all that crap. When installing, have it download updates. When finished you will be asked to reboot. Go to Windows Update and run a scan to make sure everything is up to date.

To disable suggested sites, first back up your registry by following the instructions below.

Please visit http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/, download and install/unzip ERUNT. Run ERUNT, click OK at the Welcome dialog, accept the default values that are pre-filled in and pre-checked, click OK, click yes and OK when it's done.
To restore the backup at a later date, navigate to the ERDNT folder in your Windows directory, open the folder with the date you want to restore from and then click ERDNT.EXE. It will restore your registry but it needs to reboot to do so. When it asks you to do so, click yes.

Once you've backed up the registry, merge the attached reg file by double clicking ... Read more

I seem to have picked up some malware that I have been unable to remove. It started with a display box saying that I needed to download a fix to a security problem on my PC which kept popping up after my nephew used my PC. I do not know whether he clicked on that message. But I did not, I tried using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware which eliminated the security message, but not the hijacked links in my browser. The behavior shown is when I search on Google or similar and am presented with various search results, if I click on any of the links, my browser shows "Jumping" and I am re-directed to various sites not related to the link which was shown in my search results window. If I type the URL into my browser, I can get to the link just fine.

I came to this forum, and followed instructions to download and run DDS script. My text log follows.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello all,I had a very bad spate of spyware/malware (surfsidekick and others) recently and after many many restarts, adaware scans, spybot scans, zonelabs scans, etc I was able to remove almost all of it. There are still one or two malware apps that cannot be detected or removed automatically, unfortunately. When I boot my machine I now have Zonealarm watch every process carefully and ask for permission to run (annoying, but what can I do?). I have googled every entry to make sure that I am only allowing good stuff to load - perhaps I missed something.SUSPECT BEHAVIOR:Once I click anywhere in the desktop or load the contents of a folder into an explorer window I hear an audible "pop-pop" sound and a tiny, 3-pixel window appears in the upper left of my desktop. Then every once in a while that app (or something else) defocuses the window selection from whatever I'm working on to that app. It's very annoying. Also, at random intervals I am getting zonealarm warnings that something is trying to phone home to a spy site. ZA blocks the connection but I can't figure out where it's coming from. To be clear, this often happens with no app or explorer window open, and I have not even run FF or IE in the current boot session. Finally, also randomly, all items on the desktop dissapear. This _looks_ like an explorer.exe crash but I can still use explorer windows. Only desktop items are gone. Manually killing explorer.exe and rerunning it returns desktop stuff for a while.D... My Favorites Folders are no longer visible in the Favorites Center pane, to the left of my Homepage window? Individual favorites are still visible but none of the folders with their contents. I can find all my Favorites Folders under my username but want to return them to the pane so I can access them easily from my Homepage? I did click on a option earlier today that asked about also saving your Favorites in the Cloud?

When you click on a Favorite in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 (1607), IE only opens a blank page.

We could narrow that problem down - it apparently only occurs if Favorites are redirected to a file share and Enhanced Protected Mode ist enabled.

It works fine in IE11 on Windows 7 though using the same configuration (redirected Favorites + Enhanced Protected Mode).

I see tons of forums, discussions and a lot of people trying to find a solution for this and I DON'T SEE any solutions or real answers. Can someone or Microsoft support validate that this issue is in deed a Microsoft issue that has not been fixed? Or did
I miss something somewhere that this was fixed? Can anyone confirm?
Thanks,

This is an interesting problem in that it is really only an inconvenience, but something I still have to address.

I have a few machines that are running IE7 (7.0.5730.11). These machines are all running XP Pro + SP2 with the latest updates, and my machine is running the SP3 (v.3244) release candidate. When you open the favorites menu by clicking the star, it opens just fine. However, if the person has a folder inside of their favorites and they click on that to expand the list, it delays for about 10-15 seconds before finally opening.

We recently migrated from an extremely old version of Norton Antivirus to Trend Micro Officescan, so I figured that might have had something to do with it. I disabled real-time scanning/firewall on one machine, and then completely removed Trend on another machine, but both scenarios did not fix the problem.

I've been googling this for a while now and I keep coming up empty. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just in case it helps, the machines in questions are all various Dell hardware models (Latitudes, Optiplexes, Precisions, etc.) with fairly similar components (Core 2 Duos, 2 Gigs of RAM, Nvidia Quadro cards, etc.)

Answer:[SOLVED] IE Favorites Problem - Folders within Favorites open slow

Well we figured it out.

In case anyone was curious, we had a shortcut that copies down in a login script for our accounting software that was pointing to an icon file on a server that no longer exists. The pause I was experiencing was I guess IE looking for the icon that goes with that shortcut. Once I pointed the shortcut at the icon file in the correct location, it was working fine again.

It is impossible to find the desired location when attempted to add a favorite to a particular folder ('create in' is the dialog selection). The folders do not follow the order in the Favorites selection, and subfolders are jumbled in with the other primary folders in no discernable order. PLEASE GET THIS ONE FIXED! It shouldn't be such a chore to save a webpage for later orderly retrevial!!!

Hi!

I first noticed something was going on when I took a look in the Processes tab on Windows Task Manager a couple of weeks ago.  I saw two processes (SearchSettings.exe *32 and SearchSettings64.exe) that I had not seen before.   Upon right clicking on the process to open the file location, I saw that it was located in my Program Files (x86)/Common Files in the folder “Spigot”.  I did some research about Spigot and it seems that I probably don’t want this on my computer.  I believe the computer was infected with the Spigot Virus when downloading the YTD Video Downloader (YouTube Downloader) made by GreenTree Applications.  YTD Toolbar v7.0 (Spigot, Inc.) and YTD Video Downloader 4.0 both show up in my installed programs list.  If someone could provide the steps on how to fully remove Spigot it would be greatly appreciated!

Attached is the dds log

Thank you for your help!

How to: Remove system "Favorites" icon from Windows 7 desktop

Answer:Remove system "Favorites" desktop icon

I'm not really sure what this means.
How to: Remove system "Favorites" icon from Windows 7 desktop. What is a system Favorites icon? When you left click on this icon what opens?
If you have installed a icon on your desktop and no longer want it just drag and drop to recycle bin. This works most of the time. You can also right click on it and go to delete, this also works most of the time. Get back and let us know how thing are going.

Hi ,

I am running vista and internet explorer 8 and not in the 64 bit mode, I did below twice and it failed to fix problem.

I will try to explain problem again on the ie toobar ther is a gold star with the words favorite next to it then there are a series of tiny dots: on the right side of the dots there is a gold star with a green arrow on the star pointing right. If you are on a webpage you want to keep handy you can click on the word favorites in the above toolbar and below shows up a list of your favorites beginning the list is save to favorites next on the list is save to favorites bar, and this is where it stops working. As I stated I tried to copy my favorites list a couple of weeks ago and when I was trying to retrieve it also moved? lost the favorites bar. I had help getting back my favorites to the list attached to the toolbar but still cannot retrieve my favorites bar. see below the instructions I followed to do this successfully.

The difference I can see with the favorites bar is that when I look where it says below there is a picture of a file folder next to the words (favorites bar) not the picture of the star/arrow depicting the favorites bar.

member VistaRookie solved this for me with the below instructions. Now I need any help with the above. Included below see what Microsoft Internet explorer tech wrote me. which did not work

I have lost all my Favorites in Edge. I have recovered a copy of the desired Favorites and have placed these favorites on my desktop as a file folder. The file structure has all the folders, and within each folder, the links to all the favorite websites. I have tried placing the contents of this file into the following location: C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\De fault
I understand that this is the default location for Edge Favorites. With the desired ?Favorites? folder placed and verified in the above location and I open Edge and click on Favorites and all I see under Favorites are two folders ?Favorites Bar? and ?BookmarksBar? (as expected both currently empty). I had hoped to see also an expandable ?Favorites? folder with all the subfolders. I would appreciate help in how to use the previous referenced Desktop file folder or its content to restore my Favorites in Edge.

Hi there, Bobold. Welcome to the forum

The only way I know how is to place them in Favorites folder using File Explorer. That's actually for IE. Then import them using Edge.

3-dot menu > Settings > Favorites Settings > Import.

Thanks, {redoak}

Good morning,

As usual after 69 years on God's green earth I still mess up things without really trying.

I recently bought an HP p7-1157c computer with Win 7 installed. Somehow while I was moving files around I have created a problem with saving sites to individual folders inside my Favorites.

I can save something to the Favorites folder itself but NOT to any other folder inside the actual Favorties Folder.

From reading similar posts on this forum I think it has something to do with the Links folder. When I go to C:/users it has two folders. (Phil and Public)

The Phil folder has a 'yellow' lock on the folder icon. When I open the folder it shows a shortcut to Links as one of the entries. When I click on the Links short cut it shows:

Desktop
Downloads
Recent Places

When I open the Public folder it has about 9 folders one of which is called 'CyberLink' but it is empty.

Like the dummy I am I have been moving files around but for the life of me I can't tell you now what they were or where I moved them too.

I am hoping I can solve this without having to do a system restore. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

2harts4ever

Answer:Having Trouble saving Favorites inside Favorites

Hi Phil, navigate to C:\Users\your user-name\Favorites there you should see your favorites and folders inside it.
Alternatively, in your browser's menu bar, click on Favorites, a window will open with 'Add to favorites', clicking on that will opens another window giving you options of where to save it. Also you can pick a folder you have made or create, and ma,e, a new folder.

I inadvertently deleted (via right click) the Favorites Bar folder in Favorites Center (the pane which opens with the gold star in IE 10). How can I get it back?

I attempted to copy a list of 175 Favorites from an NT Laptop onto a floppy diskette in order to port these Favorites to an XP Laptop.
The copy terminated with "Disk Full" after approximately 60 Favorites were copied. Each Favorite was less than 512 bytes and the diskette indicated that 28k bytes of the available 1.44M were used. What am I doing wrong?

Answer:Copying NT Favorites to XP Favorites via floppy disk

Try doing a scandisk after a full format of the floppy. The scandisk will tell you if there are any errors on the disk.

Are you using the Import/Export wizard in IE?

I have enough icons in the Edge favorites bar that they do not all show in a browser window. Before the Creator update, at the right end of the items that showed there was a down carrot that expanded vertically down to show a list of the remaining favorites beyond those displayed horizontally. I'm not getting the down carrot now unless I toggle the "Show only icons of the favorites bar" setting. Then the down carrot comes back, but only for that Edge session. Toggling the "Show Favorites Bar" setting does not fix the issue. Any thoughts?

Hi everybody,
I formatted my drive and reinstalled XP last week. I saved all the pictures in the My Pictures folder to CD and I also saved the Favorites to CD. I have learned (from Mr. Brody) how to put the pictures back in the My Pictures folder. I now need to know how to put the favorites back in the Favorites menu. Do I simply go down the page of links and add each link or is there some other way?

I have a user whose workstation has a peculiar problem.

In IE6, he can hit the search button (to the right of back/forward/stop/refresh/home) and get the lovely little search assistant dog. Cool. The problem is, when he hits the favorites button, the same search box/dog shows up on the right, instead of favorites.
Also, clicking the favorites button on the File/Edit/View (etc) line (can't remember what this part's called) it shows only Add to Favorites and Organize Favorites.

User accounts are server-based, but data such as favorites are local. It only affects his machine, and he should be in the same user group/group policy as everyone else in his department.

Any hints? I've had poor luck on Google, not knowing exactly how to word my search.

Answer:IE6: Favorites button links to search, no favorites

Well my first thing to say would be that the Favorites Button link is messed up.

I would then say that their favorites have been deleted or got lost due to corruption if they are not listed anymore.

I would also say that IE6 is very outdated and hasnt had any patches since IE7 became a required update. Might be time to consider updating to get your internet browsing secure.
