Question: If I upgrade to W7 will I lose napster files?

i am getting ready to upgrade from vista to windows 7. will i lose all of my napster files if something goes bad, or is there any way to back them up prior to doing the upgrade?

Preferred Solution: If I upgrade to W7 will I lose napster files?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: If I upgrade to W7 will I lose napster files?

You should already be backing up your personal files. Any number of things can happen that will cause you to lose those files.

I have just downloaded the new ISO image of the latest build of 7, 6956. the specific one I downloaded is "ULTIMATE_GB1CFRE_EN_DVD_6956.iso" I am planning on mounting it on a virtual drive with Daemon tools to install it.

My question is if I am going from Vista to 7 am I going to have to start from scratch when installing 7 or do I have the option to just upgrade and not lose all of my files and data? I know there will be this option with the final release but for these alphas can I still keep all my files?

Answer:Will I lose all of my files with upgrade?

it depends if you a 64 system then yes since this is a 32 bit iso
if your Vista is 32 bit you wont loose most configuration options

just one thing
do not use daemon tools burn it to a dvd...
such will cause errors....
since deamon tools is incompatible with 7
forgot to tell you there is an upgrade option available in windows 7 choose that one...

I've reserved my copy of Windows 10 and I'm upgrading from Windows 7. A good chunk of my schoolwork and my freelancing projects are on this computer and I'm scared that my computer will erase the Photoshop CS5/Word/Powerpoint as well as the images I've been working on.

Is it safe to just upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 without worrying about:

1.losing files and programs
2.having the programs become incompatible?

Will the install make your computer reboot like a clean slate or is there a way to save all of your files?
Some explanation would definitely help, as I am new to this upgrading thing.

Thank you all!

I am still trying to decide whether I should sign up or not for the free and full upgrade of Windows 10.
My main concern is that I've downloaded Word, which is what I write with and use for school, and I'm afraid I'll lose it when/if I upgrade to Windows 10. If I upgrade to Windows 10, could I lose Word and the files? It's imperative that I know I won't lose Word or any of my files before I sign up.
Thank you!

Answer:With Windows 10 about to fully upgrade on my computer, will I lose any files or apps like Word?

At worse, it'll move all your files to a folder called Windows.old in C:\. From there you can reinstall Word using your product key or your Office 365 subscription, and find your files in the Windows.old folder.
If you're running 8.1, though, it should just do the upgrade, and things will work as usual. Either case, your old files won't be deleted.

I signed up for PressPlay back in the summer and have been very happy with it--price, music selection, etc. Then, they announced they were changing to Napster, and I had to download a software upgrade. So far, no problem. Suddenly the other day, I was asked to download another upgrade. However, when I tried, it told me it was not compatible with WinME, only Win2K and WinXP. I thought, however, that I would go ahead and try it anyway, but it won't let me even download the file to try to install it.

My question is this: Does anyone know of a workaround for this problem? I don't want to change my OS just for this one program, plus I checked the upgrade advisor on Microsoft's website and discovered I have several hardware devices that aren't compatible with XP.

Any ideas? I'm all for paying for legally downloaded music, but it's getting frustrating trying to find decent services that are compatible with my OS!

I tried this remedy from this thread for a crashing Napster when all along it was b/c Oblivion was in the disc drive.

Now, though, when I d/l music I get a message saying the license is invalid. It's gotta be b/c they're being saved to the drmbackup folder, but I dunno how to fix it.

I'm not trying to subvert the copyright protection at all. I was trying to fix the runtime error and in the process I messed up the DRM destination, or something.

Thanx alot.

Answer:Napster music files

Napster music files are DRM protected so they limit what you can do with them. If you can play them, try burning them to audio CD then re-ripping them back into normal MP3 format with Windows Media Player.

I subscribe to the Napster monthly service that lets me listen to unlimited music. I can also separately purchase songs for $0.99. I would like to listen to the songs I buy on my Pocket PC (hp 1910). However, Napster won't sync to it, and when I use Windows Media Player to sync, somehow, the license doesn't transfer.

I know that I can get around this by burning a CD directly from Napster, and then ripping the songs as mp3's, but that is a real pain and waste of time.

Can anyone suggest how I can listen to the songs I bought? It would seem that WMA files that I bought the rights to listen to should be able to work on Windows Media Player (version 8 on Pocket PC).

If this is a Napster limitation, please let me know, and I would appreciate any suggestions for alternative sources of music that will work.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

I have ported all of my music from my old PC to the new one, which includes quite a few tracks that I downloaded (legally) from Napster as DSP encrypted .wmv files. When I attempt to play them on my new Windows 7 PC with Media Player 12, a pop-up appears telling me that "The previous webpage might require the following add-on: 'Napster' from 'Napster'. Click here to allow it to run..."

I click there, select "Run Add-on", and seconds later the same pop appears again. It's really quite frustrating. I have downloaded and installed Napster software on my PC and the tracks play through that player just fine. Any advice, other than using a different player?

Yes, the Recovery wipes the entire C drive and you will lose your files. The solution would be to backup regularly to an external HDD and after the One key recovery to also restore the files from the external drive. This has been answered before, if you do a search for "one key recovery" it shows up among the first results.http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Will-i-lose-my-files-if-i-do-one-key-recove...

This also happened a few weeks back when I installed Direct X 8.1. As soon as I went back to 8.0 everything worked fine. Does anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? Feedback? Thank you

Hey everybody

I may be getting a MP3 player for my birthday next month (Zen Sleek Photo hopefully ), and I may start a Napster account, so I can download some music.

I assume it's alright to discuss Napster, since it is now legal with paying for a monthly fee. If it is not OK, I greatly apologize, and will ask that a Moderator delete this thread.

I wanted to know what the difference is between a Napster Account and a Napster to Go account? With a Napster account, I see that I can download the music to my PC, so in theory, wouldn't I be able to then transfer this music to my MP3 player, without having to have a Napster to Go account?

Answer:Difference between Napster and Napster to Go?

I think the To Go one is for their own MP3 player. I'm not too sure.

Thier website is not too informative about it

Hi, Experts! I'm no beginner, but I have never tried to upgrade a system over an existing system. On my desk computer, I'm currently running ME, but I want 2000 (with service pack 4) because I want to go to the next version of Adobe Photoshop, which requires at least 2000. The reason I want 2000 and not XP is that I have XP on my laptop and find it to be awkward and inelegant.
My question is, if I were to try to upgrade over my existing system, would the new OS see my registry preferences and configurations, and pick them up, or would I just lose everything and need to reinstall every last program I'm using?
I know I will lose some of the older programs that I use, but I certainly don't want to make the change if it means a month of installing and configuring all over again. Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give!

Answer:If I upgrade, will I lose my registry?

Performing an upgrade (insert Windows 2000 disc while ME is runing, and select upgrade option) will retain your software settings in the registry, and will attempt to maintain most of your registry.
optionally (and recommended) you may make a backup your registry first

regedit /e C:\backup.reg

The warranty on my computer is about to go, and I've been having so many issues with it that it's not worth even trying to call customer support to try to get them to fix it. I had to replace the motherboard and power supply like 6 months ago for the THIRD time, I even put in a new heatsink and cooling fans this time, and I'm having the same issues all over again.

If I build a new computer, is there a way that I can just transfer the hard drive so I keep my system intact? I have all my files backed up on external drives, but there's a few programs and software plugins that I can't get again. Somewhere in moving, I've moved like three times in the last year, I've lost the discs and can't afford to re-buy the software and I need them for audio and computer graphics work.

Answer:Want computer upgrade, don't want to lose programs

When booting for the first time your old HDD on a new system, try booting in Safe Mode first. Most of the time this will work, then boot in normal mode.

My question is, will the clone include the recovery partition? If not, how do I put it back on once I upgrade?

I believe I may have gotten a virus from my younger brother as very shortly after he moved in and connected to my network, all this started happening. First, I had a few memory dumps (blue screen, says something about dumping physical memory). After this happened a few times in a period of a few days, I noticed that I could not access windows firewall or windows security center, I would get error messages.

I found fixes for the errors on the internet and tried them, but none worked. After this, I ran all the spy ware tools then started a disk defragmentation. It was going extremely slow, so I decided I would cancel it and try it in safe mode. Well after I cancelled and rebooted (not in safe mode), my start menu and taskbar were missing and the cpu ran very slowly and several programs would just not open.

After resetting several times with no luck, I decided to do a windows xp repair installation. During the installation, one file could not be installed (agt0416.hlp) so I skipped it. XP does it's thing until it gets to the screen where it says it is installing (gives an estimated time of 39 minutes), but it just sits there and eventually comes up with an error (See bottom of post). I tried several times and it did this every time and now I can't boot as it restarts the windows installation everytime.

I am at the point where I might try a new installation, but want to make sure I don't lose any of my files, favorites, etc. Should I do this and how can I get all of my i... Read more

Hi,

I have a massive problem. I need to reboot my Vista Ultimate (I know how to do this, I'll use the Recovery CD that came with my laptop), but I don't want to lose the files on my hard drive.

I also have no way to access my hard drive at the moment (I tried restarting and pressing F8 and all I got was the message I initially got, below).

Here's what happened:

I got impatient at my ASUS M51 T9500 laptop freezing, so I pressed the "On/Off" button for a long time, got the computer to turn off and then pressed "On" again. The computer started, but Vista wouldn't come up. I got this error message, which I keep getting when I do "Ctrl Alt Delete" (I don't know why I tried that, I just hoped it would help) and when I restarted and pressed F8:
Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert the Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, then click "next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not...bla bla...contact the administrator...bla bla
File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Just wanted to know, if I buy Vista say for example from PC World, will i lose all the pre-installed software that came with my Toshiba laptop? The software like InterVideo WinDVD Creator, RecordNOW, ConfigFree etc.

Answer:Will I lose the pre-installed software when I upgrade to Vista?

It depends how you will install the Vista.
You can choose several instillation ways. You can update the XP, you can install the Vista on a second partition or you will overwrite the existing XP.

If you will overwrite the XP the Vista will erase all installed applications.
I would recommend installing Vista on the second partition and you could use both OS, XP and Vista.
But as far as I know many applications are not compatible with Vista and you will need new versions (if they are available!)

Answer:Will I lose my apps when I upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile?

If you just upgrade OTA then your apps should be fine. If they don't survive, they will be in the store under 'my library'. If you are coming from 8.1, you may have to update them :-)

I'm currently running Windows 8 that my laptop came with. I decided to wait for the official 8.1 release in October instead of the Preview.
I have a lot of Calendar reminders on my Windows 8 Stock Calendar and I was wondering when I upgrade to 8.1, will those reminders disappear?
I'm asking this because I've been reading a lot of articles that you have to re-install your apps and settings after the update.

Although you probably can't confirm this until it has released (I guess).
Has anyone lost their reminders on when they switched from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Preview?

Answer:Will Windows 8.1 Upgrade Lose Your Calendar Settings?

Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro
You can upgrade to Windows 8.1 Preview Pro and keep Windows settings, personal files, and applications from the following Windows operating system editions:
Windows 8 Windows 8 Pro Windows 8 Pro with Media Center

I'm assuming Preview and RTM are interchangeable in this context and thus application settings should be retained.

I like to add comments to the files I download into my c:\downloads folder.
But when I try and copy the downloaded file onto my USB 512mb drive, XP advises me that the comments will not be copied and wipes them.

Has anyone a solution other than retyping them in the USB drive?
I guess the answer is no, but there is always hope. Bazza

windows is bad about that, get you a burning program like nero, sonic, just about any aftermarket burning program and it will burn it all.

As I was teaching a class today Windows 10 started an update that I did not approve. It just started. When it booted back up there was a dialogue box saying all my files were where I left them. When I click on the listing of the 20 most recent files in Word, I can open those. But the folders in which they were housed cannot be found. I need your help immediately.

Answer:Why did the update on Windows 10 delete or lose almost all my files?

Can I install XP over itself and not lose files, folders, settings ect?
I have rediculously malicious adware/spyware, also could anyone reccomend any really good programs besides Spybot and Adaware, which weren't able to solve my particular problem.

Answer:Can I install XP over itself and not lose files, folders, settings ect?

You can perform a repair install but not without having to reinstall most of your software. Have you tried looking into your registry and/or the Startup tab in msconfig? You'll be able to find unwanted applications and services that are starting in the background when your computer starts.

The upgrade shouldn't lose your programs and files. But as at any time, you should have a good backup routine in place. Just in case.

So I have Time Warner Roadrunner as my ISP and any time I do any type of p2p I get disconnected from the internet completely - until I power cycle my modem.

When it happens, the Send light on the modem turns completely off (usually it blinks due to activity).

Utorrent, WoW patches, FTP uploads, and any other type of download that involves some uploading will disconnect me. It doesn't always happen right away, and even if I limit the upload/download speed of utorrent it still happens.

Time warner supplied modem->Linksys WRT120N -> 4 PC's

It occurs on all 4 pc's, and I've switched the router out with 2 other older linksys models, same problem. Also replaced the modem with a brand new one, same issue. Sometimes this happens on a daily basis, I had it happen twice within the same hour while downloading a large file (torrent).

Time warner is no help, they just tell me to power cycle the modem and then WOW it works!! No shit.. but only until tomorrow at the latest..

Think we have Deep packet inspection perhaps? Why give someone 1Mb upload and not be able to use any upload.. (20 down, 1 up - raw speed)

Answer:Lose internet access when uploading files

Sounds like whatever router/modem you have has a really small amount of memory and it's NAT translation table overflows. It has nothing to do with throttling, DPI or anything like that. Those technologies only slow your upload/download not shut everything down.

What type of modem/router do you have?

Hi!
I have a HP Pavilion, 80 gb hard drive,20 gb free, 512 memory, 2 mghz speed and running xp home. Last Friday I did a defrag on my computer. The first day after, the computer did seem to run better. Then I started getting msg's about different exe. files were missing or corrupted. My programs seemed to be running fine however. Tonight I started to use Q-image to print some photos. and it would not come up--again the missing or corrupted file error msg I thought maybe if I restarted the computer that it would reset itself. Well, it didn't! I had a msg that the "system32\drivers\isapnp.sys" was missing or corrupted. I found the file on my laptop and copied it onto a disk and then copied it onto my desktop. Now the computer is looping and not getting past the windows logo screen. Please tell me how to make a bootable disk and how to get my material off the computer, so that I don't lose my files. Most of them I do have on backup, but I haven't backed up the last couple of months!-which means that all my holiday stuff is on there, plus a paid project. Thanks for any help....Diane

A trial version of Office 2007 came with my new laptop. The trial expired. I found a fair deal online for the Small Business version and received the package with discs today. I've created many files with the trial version. When I install the new version, will I KEEP or will I LOSE the files I've already have created (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)? I suspect the installation won't affect the previously created files, but I'd like my confidence to be bolstered by the voice of authority gained from true experience. Is that you? Please put my mind at ease...hopefully today. I have a trip tomorrow.

Answer:Solved: Install Office'07 over Trial version. Lose files??

Shouldn't be a problem. I guess the slight chance exists if you saved them in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office" folder, but that would be a ridiculous place to save them. Even if they are there...I doubt they would get deleted unless you manually deleted that folder.

Hi
Ever since I installed windows 10 and I'm having those random issues after waking up from sleep / restart or shutdown. (fast startup disabled no difference)
Those issues mainly are:
1- Files and folders disappearing despite their date creation. Mostly on secondary drives. had to do check disk and deal with the found.000 folders to recover them.
2- Hard disk/s stop working, I can see it on my computer but accessing it will just make the explorer as searching forever. I can fix this either by restarting or unplugging the power from the HDD and plug it again while windows is running and it will recognize it again.
3- Random error messages on startup, Windows security center, startup program failed to load etc..
4- Services might not startup causing my program fails to start as well.

A week ago I lost 4TB of gaming HDD folder, but thank God I was able to recover them.
Now just went and turned on my PC I found a duplicate HDD of my 2nd gaming HD with letter "K?" I restarted my PC and it took it 5 min to boot, with all the above errors shows at startup. And of course lost my 2nd gaming HDD with 2TB of games. couldn't access to internet as services didn't load, windows was slow and unresponsive, and took me 2 hours of unplugging all hard disks but main, restarting, force shut by PSU power switch waiting 30sec plugging all HDDs back and after a lot of messing turned it on, after 5 min of windows boot, it worked with some errors.

Hi black

Could you share what version and build of windows you are using?

The age old have you looked into the driver you are using for storage? Has Windows identified correctly? If it is the most recent I would recommend falling back a version or two. You listed that you have a desktop, if custom built and your MB vendor has drivers for Windows 10 that is where I would start.

You may also want to check, under Disk Drives, in device manager which policy you are using.

You might also check to ensure you have the latest BIOS for your device. As I'm sure you are aware BIOS updates come with a real risk. I'm not saying to update BIOS however checking your version from vendor's current version may provide some insight.

You mentioned fast start up is disabled, have you considered disabling hibernation as a further test point.

For your drive just to be sure please consider using the trial version of HD Tune. Scan for errors using the full scan and run a bench mark test. On HD's site under the test results tab you can compare your bench marks to theirs.

I might also run sfc /scannow. You mentioned stray error messages and services not starting.

As to Defender, are you using another AV. Yesterday I worked on a machine where Defender would not detect / accept that Malwarebytes 3.0 was installed.

Hi all,
Hoping you can help with this one.
My partners Dad has an issue with his PC.
Running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 x64 NTFS, HP TouchSmart 520

He will do some work on an Excel or Word file, save it, but then when he goes back to the file another day it has sometimes lost not only the most recent data, but also previous months.
It's almost as if they are restoring themselves to a previous date.

The most recent example is an Excel file he saved 2 days ago, yet today it is showing as last being modified back in March.

I temporarily resolved his loss of data the other week by right clicking the file, going into properties, previous versions, then restoring from the last save point so that all correct data is then displayed.
Unfortunately the issue has came back on a file so something must be up somewhere.
Any ideas or where to start?
He has McAfee antivirus and Malwarebytes, will post a log from that in a second.

I'm planning to do a full system recovery via OneKey Recovery for my Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 lappie after a major Windows update failed and screwed up the system, causing a lot of annoying problems. I was wondering if I would lose my files if I were to restore it to its "initial state". I swear I remembered that I was still able to keep my "user" files in a "Windows.old" folder the last time I've done a recovery, but I'm not really sure. I've got GB's of data to back up if that's not the case.

Answer:Will I lose my personal files if I do a full system recovery (Lenovo IdeaPad Y460)?

I too would appreciate an answer to this question, but for a different reason. I attempted to copy some files onto C: using a Linux live CD and this caused some serious filesystem corruption. Since it's a brand new machine I figure I will just do a system restore to factory defaults. But does this format the partition or does it just re-copy system files?

It is always a wise decision to make a backup of your files before upgrading to a newer operating system. There is always room for errors during the upgrade process and, sometimes, things go wrong.
When you start the upgrade, you will be provided with options to either keep your files and programs or not, so, if everything goes smoothly, you're good. However, what if it doesn't? So, yes, make a backup of your files first!

Employee claims that while using the Move function to place folders in a different directory tree the folders were moved but the files were lost. I have tried to duplicate the action but have not been able to replicate losing the files. Talked to experts said no way it will happen. One in a million chance it will occur. However, employee claims replicated Move operation multiple times (10-15 folders) and lost files multiple times (7-10 times), but not every time.

Is this possible? I must fire employee for extensive data loss. However, if truly unintentional, and I can replicate as proof-- Employee keeps job.

Answer:Using Move Function: Move Folders & Lose Files

As the experts you spoke with indicated, there is virtually no way this could happen. Even if there was a copy error that Windows didn't detect and abort the move operation, you'd still likely end up with some sort of file even if it was corrupted and unreadable.

One in a hundred trillion chance of happening.

Hello my friends!

I recently brought a nice looking ASUS computer, preloaded with Windows 8.1. Cool eh? Comes with a 4th generation Intel i3 and the whole lot!
But, I notice a Get Windows 10 icon on my panel!

Now, I was wondering if I accept this wonderful free offer from Windows 10 will it be a 1 year trial or will my Windows 8.1 product key come to Windows 10...
Thank You.

Answer:If I upgrade to Windows 10 will i lose Windows 8.1 key?

Your Win8.1 will be used (taken) by Win10 so you can't install Win8.1 again on a different computer. But you can roll back to Win8.1 (remove Win10) if you want and your original key will then be used again for Win8.1.

Question: Napster

HI !!
In fear of Napster being banned, I have saved all of my downloads to another file - but when I go into this file, offline, and click on the song to play in WinAmp - the song plays but is "choppy" sounding. How come?
Thanks !!

Answer:Napster

You saved them to another file ? Do you mean another folder ?

With Napster, you designate a folder where you want all downloaded songs to be saved. Those songs, once downloaded, will be permanently on you hard disk in the specified folder. In Napster go to Fil>Preferences>Download and see where they are being downloaded to. They should all be there in MP3 format.

Winamp is probably one of the best MP3 players, the "choppy" sound may be due to your computer being slow or "bad" copies of the songs - low bit rate. It could also be because you have done something to them in the process of copying them.

Even if Napster is made illegal, it doesn't mean you have to delete any of the songs you downloaded or uninstall the software.

Question: Napster

Hi

I've finally got connected to Napster and have managed to download a lot of songs. They are mostly current recordings that are available in stores. Is it legal to play them, as I haven't paid a royalty fee to anyone? Also, can I burn them onto CD and play them in my car or at home?
Last point. You specify a folder where you store the MP3's that you allow others to access to download from your PC. As I understand it, every song is stored on members own drives and not centrally, which is why the authorities can't stop it. Are there security implications in allowing this?
I have Zone Alarm running, which normally gives me 1 or 2 warnings a day about unauthorised access attempts. In the last 24 hours I've had around 150, which are all similar to below - only the IP address changes.

The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (ICMP Echo Request ('Ping')) from 194.117.136.212.

Time: 23/07/00 13:04:56

On 2 occasions ZA has allowed access for someone to download one of my MP3's. I could disable access rights for all to copy from my PC, but I think that would defeat the point of Napster.
Any guidance would be appreciated, especially as the quality of the music is superb!
As I seem to have gone into a bit of a rant here's a quick summary:
1. Is it legal to download any song you find?
2. Can you copy the songs on to CD/tape?
3. Is it safe to let others access a folder to download my MP3's?

Question: Napster To Go

Quick question about the Napster To Go service that you can use with a compatible MP3 player. I am thinking about getting an MP3 player and joining this service since it has the unlimited downloads for $15 a month offer. What I am curious about is whether the tracks are limited to your MP3 player or they can be played and/or burned to other media using my PC. When I use this service will it first download it to my PC and then I can burn to the MP3 player, or does it download straight to the player? If it does the latter, can you then move it from the player to your hard drive? I think this is a neat service but I want to be able to have the music on my pc as well as the mp3 player so I can swap songs on and off without redownloading from Napster.

Answer:Napster To Go

With Napster to Go, you can download the tracks to your computer and listen to them on the computer or transfer them to your player but you can't burn them to a CD. That costs a dollar a track.

Question: napster

how legal and how safe is napster.

Answer:napster

and so is using a P2P file-sharing system.However............If you download a copyright-protected file from someone else's computer you are committing an illegal act (and so is the person who offers it for download). It's argued that in those circumstances the company which operates the P2P servers (Napster for instance) is also committing an illegal act because they are technically distributing or facilitating the distribution of copyright-protected material without the consent of the copyright owner. As for being safe - I think it's no exaggeration to say that downloading files over the Internet from a total stranger is about the most dangerous thing you can do with your computer - you're just asking for trouble, and trouble will oblige you.

Question: Help with Napster

Hi. I have recently signed-up for the free service from Napster - Napster Lite.

I downloaded and installed their media player software and have set-up a link to pay for individual tracks via Paypal. Downloading and payment is fine. However, when I try to burn my songs to disc, I am continually greeted with a message saying that 'the feature you are trying to use is on a resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the instalation package 'Roxio Burn engine.msi' in the box below.'

Now, I cannot find how to overcome this. What's more, I have Roxio Easy CD Creator already installed on my PC, although I rarely use it, prefering to use either Windows Media Player, or Nero to burn my CDs. I have checked the instalation of Roxio to ensure there are no problems with it. even tried inserting the Roxio disc and running the repair program option to search for any possible problems with the instalation. Still no joy.

Is there any other way I can burn my downloaded music, using Nero, for instance? Otherwise, the music is apparently trapped within the Napster library. It seems that I can't even send the tracks to my documents, thus enabling me to burn them indepandantly. I consider this to be extremely sharp practice on behalf of Napster, especially when one has paid for the downloads on good faith. One wonders if this problem is a kind of punishment for using the free software version of their servi... Read more

Hi

My daughter is considering signing up for Napster and I tunes, which I understand are legal alternatives.

questions:
I assume they have "spyware" "cookies etc...

How is the new napster (techinically -wise) different from the old napster (except of course it's legal)Did they take the old napster
use the samE configurations and legalize it? If so I'm not sure I want any part of it.

Question: Napster

Hi,
Forgive me if this has been posted before, but this is my first time

I have been trying to use Napsters free 14 day trial program, but every time i try to complete the installation a message tells me that Windows Media Player needs to be shut down before it can be completed. I have tried and tried but now i am

This program is not running (as far as i know) so i am puzzled as to what the problem is. I have checked my firewall and it will allow access, i have also tried disabling the pop-ups. Nothing seems to work.

My internet provider is wanadoo and we are using broadband. Windows XP Home edition.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Hello Loz and welcome to BC

Not sure this will help but its easy enough to try. In Internet Explorer go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab and under Multimedia remove the check marks from Play sounds in web pages and Show video in web pages. Close IE and reboot. WMP is the default media player for IE and this may have something to do with your error.

Question: Napster

Can any body tell me if Napster is closed yet

Answer:Napster

It's 10:50 p.m in Southern California and I can't connect to the Napster server. This morning I was able to connect just fine. Don't know, but I share your concern.

Ok, I'm operating on Windows '95, recently my Napster can't connect server at all! Same thing with icq and msn...it tells me that I'm not connected to the internet..which I am,or that the network is not responding. We had been having a problem with the java in regards to running certain applets on the internet, and the games (hearts, minesweeper, etc.) that came already intstalled weren't working. We had someone over to fix them, and since then I have been able to get into the listed programs. I have tried re-downloading and installing. All the advanced setting on the computer are at default. I have no problems running Yahoo messenger which I downloaded yesterday. Any suggestions would be most welcome!!

Answer:Napster, Icq & MSN HELP!

I too have recently had problems connecting to Napster and ICQ first time. I think that the servers might just be very busy because after a few attempts I connect with no problems.

Question: Napster Help

The last few days my tracks will not play. I am fully up to date with my subscription.

When it tries to play the tracks, it says 'aqquiring license' just before giving me the message that the track can't be played.

I contacted Napster, who told me to download some things from www.justforfiles.com which would update my DRM. When I tried to do the 5th step which was to DRM reset auto, that setup file refused to run and I got the error:

----------

-5009 : 0x0040801

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other
applications.

---------

Is anyone familiar with this sort of thing? Napster have now told me to call some premium rate number at Microsoft because they can't help me!

Question: Napster

Am just configuring a new machine for a friend and noticed that she has installed Napster herself already.

Are there still the same security issues with this program that there once were? All the references I can find on google seem to be dated around 2001 / 2002.

Of course, European commercials are way racier than ones in the U.S. I heard this was a test commercial for Napster in the U.K. at www.getthewholething.com Can you imagine this on TV in the U.S.? Doubtful. It's super raunch and has this stripper girl on it...A mixed version of "Sunshine of Your Love". Not too bad. I am surprised that it has made it b4 the conservatives pounced... hehe

Answer:What Napster Is Getting Away With

This was a Microsoft ad that ran for a few days, until Microsoft US found out about it and dropped it.

Question: Napster??

Everyone:

Why does my Napster account say this:

"Your account is not compatible with mobile devices. If you want to use a mobile device, you must upgrade to a Napster To Go Subscription."

I already am a Napster To Go Subscriber!!

Is Windows 7 not compatible with Napster or what??
This is very fishy to me!!

Please help me, thanks.

God Bless

Al Machek

Answer:Napster??

It sounds to me more like it's Napster, not your PC. Have you tried contacting their customer support?

Help!!! I've spent two hours on the phone with Napster, who were very very helpful and did their best. I tried to contact Microsoft and Compaq and they wanted me to pay$35 - $45 for help, no way. I've searched the Microsoft's support site to no avail.

When I upgraded to WMP 10 (or at least that is when I think it started) I've started having a problem with Digital Rights Management (DRM). We even reinstalled WMP 10 and tried to 'Individualize' and came up with a "Secure Storage Protection Error." I am stumped as to how to fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

So how does napster to go work? What if I sign up and transfer a bunch of music to my MP3 player then cancel the service. How does the player know to not let me play them anymore?

Answer:Some questions about Napster to go

DRM... like selling your soul to the devil.

Esp. when they could easily die at any point...

If you want to buy songs, get cds for $2.79 at bmg...
