Question: display does not appear

display does not appear once computer restarts after installing Windows 7 64bit

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: display does not appear

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: display does not appear

obviously it didnt met its minimal requirements....try 32 bit

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

Answer:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

Question that I could not find an answer for on Google before I buy. I currently have a Dell 6420 using Win 7 SP1 with a 1366 X 768 display that I have the text set at 125% so I can read it. What display is going to look better on an X1 Carbon if I use that setting, the 2560 x 1440 WQHD IPS LED Display or the 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS LED Display using Win 7 Pro?

Each time I start up settings in display properties resets to
Screen resolution 640 X 480
Color Quality low 8 - bit
I rest them to
1024 X 768

apply and restart and they reset to the above.

The correct monitor and Adapter are selected.

I ran a update search for each and it says I have the latest driver version.

If I need to update the monitor and Adapter driver what version and where do I need to go?

Normally this laptop has a monitor plugged into the HDMI port. One day during routine maintenance the laptop was unplugged from the HDMI port and ever since the display is not working. The entire desktop image is moved slightly down about a 1/4 of an inch and about an inch to the left leaving a 1 inch black unusable section of the display and moved the windows taskbar partially off the screen. I have tried re-installing the drivers - system restore. Nothing seems to work. Is this machien broken?

Answer:U310 Display not showing the entire desktop black section on right side of the display??

Hi Telecotek,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with display in your Lenovo U310 laptop.
As you have mentioned that there is a black section, try to change the resolution and check for the issue. If you are connecting the LCD monitor set the resolution according to the size of the screen.
The maximum resolution of the system is 1366*768, please check while connecting to the external monitor if this resolution is set.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hello,Since few days , I am facing some weird problem with my Lenovo SL410. The Display is showing one black strip and dipsplay is entirely moved to left. Even When I am trying to enter the BIOS setup same issue is seen. But rest of the functioning of Laptop is very normal. But if I keep my laptop unused , for one instance , display shows normal. I ran every Lenovo dignostic steps and everything is passed properly. I don't think this is driver issue else BIOS shouldn't have shown this issue. But surprisingly , after 2-3 days if I don;t use my laptop , for first boot-up everything looks normal.I even tried updating BIOS which did not help me. Any clue where is the issue ?

Hi, I have also included most of the following information in response to a post, on the same subject, for T series machines. I have 2 machines that are also affected by this problem, an R61 (8932-CTO XP-Pro-SP3 32-bit) and an R500 (2714-CTO XP-Pro-SP3 32-bit). System update recently presented me with Hotkeys version 3.87.0000 on both of these machines, and I let System Update update the drivers in the vain hope that Lenovo had fixed this problem that has been previously reported as affecting many other series and models. No such luck. The only difference that I would like to  report is that, for me, the last version of the Hotkey Features Integration package that displays the volume bar on my Windows XP machines is: 3.84.5000. I have all versions of the Hotkeys drivers saved on my machine and was therefore able to try them all out to verify which one was the last one that worked for me.  On both of the above mentioned systems, the version of Access Connections that is running is version 5.97.On the R61, the version of Power Manager that is running is version 5.20.On the R500, the version of Power Manager that is running is version 5.13. (System Update does not show version 5.20 as an available update on this machine.) It would be really nice if Lenovo could finally fix this problem.

During a  upgrading of my Windows Vista 64 OS update installation the process was interrupted by a power off / termination event. When I re-booted the display screen went all crazy.. The screened is filled with thin lines running horizontally across the screen in the upper thrid o the display picture. The bottom half-inch of the screen is whitened out. The center band stretching the width of the screen is displaying the normal desktop. However the picture vibrates and shifts constantly. Is this a driver issue? A BIOS issue? A Vista issue? A LCD screen panel issue? What do I do to fix it? Its like everything is in motion and off-center at the same time. Please advise me soonest. I will try to capture some screen shots and post them later. Thanks, BEK477

My Dell Insipron 6400 laptop will not support multiple monitors. I think I may not have a key driver installed. Help!!

I have attached two separate images, screen shot of my device manager and display properties and a screen shot of the same image on my mothers PC. (which is also a Dell Inspiron 6400)

On my PC, In my device manager I can not view the display adapters (there must be something installed and I do not have visiblilty?? correct??)

Also, on my display properties I do not even have the option for Multiple monitor support. (these are the same PC's)

I inserted my Drivers and Utilities CD from Dell, but I did not see any driver on there that was applicable to a display adapter.

Am I on the right track???

I'm experiencing a horrible gradient issue on my new Z50-75. Everything else looks fine but the quality of the display is.... terrifying. I'm afraid this is not an unprecedented case. Is it possible though that Lenovo would sell such a display in 2014? I can literally count the shades of colours. First I thought it was a software issue, I checked every possible settings, gamma, saturation, brightness, bitrate etc. but all seem fine. They promote this laptop as a multimedia device; screen renders all multimedia features unenjoyable. Counting shades in 1080p movies? Please tell me this is fixable.

Answer:Z50-75: Gradient colors, color banding, dark/ dim display (Faulty display?)

I bought the Z50-75 laptop a week ago. It comes with a Full HD display, FX7500 and R7 M260DX. I installed Win 8.1 Pro on it. The display seems very dark even on the highest brightness set through Win and AMD drivers. I tried all suggestions listed in many similar topics such as turning off adjustable brightness, tried a number of drivers, turned of all power-saving and brightness adjusting functions, tried the registry fix that works for some P series laptops, tried pressing f12 key while booting, tried with and without the lenovo energy manager driver/software. Nothing seems to make it brighter and more clear. Also some things appear very blurry or the screen and out of focus. Is there a fix or are these particular displays that bad? Any advice will be welcomed. Thank you

I have a W500 and recently bought a 22 inch lenova monitor 2551p. Catalyst Control Center does not display a Fixed Aspect Ratio option for this new external monitor. I can change the resolution to a fixed aspect ratio on my native screen, but not on the new external monitor. Long story short, a 1024x768 webpage gets stretched across my widescreen monitor and it should not - I should see the black bars on the sides. Is there a resolution to the issue?Does anyone have a direct URL to download and install new drivers?Does anyone have a direct URL to get the latest and greatest Catalyst Control Center? Is there third party software I can use in the place of Catalyst Control Center? I am pretty sure I have all of these things, but want to see if someone knows a work around or newer drivers/software.

i am not sure whether the Lenovo LCD that you got, has the fixed aspect ratio and 1:1 mapping option. If it doesn't then there is nothing much you can do from the LCD end.
Which catalyst driver are you using right now?

I have a ThinkPad T400. I just reinstalled Windows 7 (64-bit) using a clean image. The automatic display driver that Windows found was for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series from 2010. When I put the laptop onto the ThinkPad docking station, the monitor, connected by VGA, was detected just fine and the screen came up in the correct resolution. However, I was having problems with slow cursors in various programs (e.g., Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Office) and hangs in Office that seemed related to the display driver. So I downloaded the Switchable Graphics Driver and installed it ( That solved the other problems, but now when I put my laptop onto the docking station or wake it from sleep while it's docked, the monitor never turns on -- the picture stays on the (closed) laptop screen. The only way I've found to get the monitor to turn on is to open the laptop and use Windows-P to turn it to "projector only" (while still docked) and then it finds the monitor (and gives me an error message saying that no projector was detected). Sometimes when this happens it tries to keep the laptop screen resolution, which is unfortunately not the same as my monitor. When I revert to the old driver, the docking station works just fine but other programs hang or are slow. Please help! I really need my docking station to work, but I would also like to use hardware accelerated graphics rend... Read more

I go this XPS13 in US and brought it here to Dubai. There was this issue ON and OFF, where the display would become 1 inch tall and screen width or three inches / 1 inch etc. Random. After pressing the power button some 15 times, switching the device on and off and on...if I am lucky the device comes up.
Is there a solution for this. I faced the issue last week; and 30 minutes ago. Now it is fine. Not sure when this will fail. I would like to know if there is a solution for this. Been two years. Issue on and off. Can older version of Windows help? I have no trust in updates from DELL. Been updating my device all the time. So is there a solution related to Windows?

Hello folks,

I seem to be having multiple problems all at the same time (all of which may or may not be related) but let me start from the beginning.

This all started when I tried to connect my Inspiron 1720 laptop to our television. For some reason my laptop froze, the image on both my computer and TV had white lines across it, and so I turned off my system since it was locked up.

I restarted and began having display problems - first windows were not opening in the desktop area. They would open in the system tray, but were "unreachable" by the mouse. I played with display settings and got the screen to fit...but now seem to have 2 primary problems:

Whenever I play games, view pictures, or Windows Media Player, I see strange "plaid boxes." However, the desktop is fine and everything else appears to work fine. I contacted NVIDIA and I have installed different driver versions, as well as the OEM (Dell's) driver's - all did not work - I still saw the distorted images when playing games, viewing pictures, and videos.

I have also completed System Restore's to points prior to when I was having the problem - unfortunately that did not work.

Here are screenshots of what I am seeing:

This problem may stem from the original TV incident. When I click on Displa... Read more

Answer:Vista Display Problem (display driver and/or multiple-monitor related)

The first set of pictures that you put up look like classics examples of bad video RAM. In a desktop PC I would tell you to swap out the video card with a differnt one to verify that is the issue since in a few cases bad drivers can cause the issue but it's highly unlikely. Professional service by a local non big box computer shop is your best bet at this point.

T420, no docking station, with external monitor connected to VGA port. Windows 8.1 64-bit. Display driver up-to-date, Windows 8.1 up-to-date. Lenovo Syetm Update run and everything is up-to-date. So occasionally it switches back to single display (laptop screen) then immediately switches back to dual display. Seems to do this randonly without warning. I don't see any obvious issues, event log does not show any problems when the issue occurs. I did reinstall the display driver but that did not help. This is more of an annoyance then anything else. I just stop what I am doing and wait for it to switch back to dual display, as I use the external monitor as my primary desktop.

I have an HP dc7900 at work and the system keeps getting the error "Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered". First the user is not playing game and I have updated the video drivers. I also ran DXDIAG.exe and I have looked at the report and I don't see anything abnormal.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this error Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered keeps occurring ??

Try uninstalling the current driver completely and re-install the driver from the HP Support site.

Perform the following steps:
-Download Trexxy Driver Fusion from Driver Fusion - The Complete Driver Solution and install it. Don't run the program yet
- First, Uninstall the Intel Graphics driver/software from Control Panel > Uninstall a program and restart
-Now run Driver Fusion, select Intel Display and then select Delete
-After complete restart the PC then install the latest release of the Graphics driver from the HP Support site.

Hi, I own a T420s 4171 and have 2 external monitors hooked up to my docking station. That works fine, but when I try to also display my laptop screen (as my 3rd screen), it won't enable it. It seems to only allow 2 viewable screens (2 external monitors OR 1 external monitor + laptop screen). I tested a T420s 4173 and was able to get 3 viewable screens, but not my 4171, even after updating all of the lenovo drivers. I was comparing video card specs (4171 vs 4173) and it looks to be the same. Can someone confirm/deny that I'm able to have 3 screens with my model? Thanks.

Having a very strange (and annoying) issue with the display. I can only see the display on my Twist after connecting it to an external monitor first. If I do not, all I see is a black screen. No cursor, no anything. If I connect it to an external display via the display port to VGA adapter, it works fine. If connect it to an external display and then disconnect my external display, the display will remain on the Twist. However, if I reboot, I lose the screen again until I connect it to an external monitor. I made sure that "PC Screen Only" is chosen in the Fn+F7 option. This is obviously a serious problem. This is for company use and our users will not have a VGA monitor handy with them where ever they go. I checked the hardware manager and all the drivers are installed with no warnings.

Answer:Lenovo Twist display issues - No display unless I connect to an external monitor

Figured out a work around and narrowed down the problem. If I hit the Second Screen key (F7) after booting, it will go PC Only as the first choice and bring up the display on the laptop after a few seconds. The puzzling thing is why it seems to choose the external monitor as the default monitor on boot, even if it is not conected. I've tried running System Updater to make sure that I have all the latest drivers. All the display settings appear to be correct.

I have a T420 with a Mini Dock Series 3 (433710U).  The External Display is a 30" Dell U3011 monitor connected to the Dock via DisplayPort. As Im dealing with another issue (another thread) the Bios is set for Discrete Graphics only as the Optimus mode currently has a bug which cannot drive this 2560x1600 resolution display.  Now that I have a workaround, I have another problem. When the power savings in Windows7/Power Manager turns the display off (for me its set for 10mins), If I come back 20mins later, shake the mouse, the Dell Display acts like its turning on (LED light turns on blue to indicate signal) and then message flashes on the screen from the Dell monitor stating that its going to sleep.  So now I have a Black display (monitor went back to sleep). I can open the Lid on the laptop (forgot to mention I dont dual display, I just use the 30" exclusively and close the lid on the laptop on the dock) the screen on that shows up. Close the lid again, the monitor does the same thing where it acts like its turning back on and just goes back to sleep.  Someone mentioned a similar problem where they believe the laptop is not sending the correct DPI to the monitor causing it to not be able to display the output.  They mentioned that doing a CTRL+ATL+DEL when the laptop lid is opened, and then closing it again works.  Thats works for me, but only once.  After that, if it sleeps, I have no monitor to use.  Only way to c... I have an X220 | 2.7 i7 | 8GB Ram | 160 SSD w/ 1366/768 HD FlexView display& Intel Graphics HD running Windows 7 64 Bit
Intel Driver - (build 9/26/11)
Day one of my X220 (upgrade from the X201s). I have a Samsung 244T Monitor that outputs 1920x1200. When connecting the VGA port to the 244T and selecting "extend desktop" the image displayed on the 244T appears to be overscanning and is shifted to the left.  When made a main monitor, you cannot see the Windows key or the 1st icon on the task bar nor the time/date on the right!
I've done a bunch of troublshooting on it already such as:
- swapping VGA cables
- swapping power cords on the monitor
- uninstalling the "Generic PNP" monitor driver that by default loads when i plug the VGA cable in
- Installed the special driver for the 244t (from 2005)
- tested my X220 on other monitors (both 4:3 & 16:9, all Samsung syncmasters of different sizes) - it works fine on these
- tested & confirmed on another 244T the overscan issue in extended monitors still exists
- tested & confirmed my old X200s is able to properly display 1920x1200 in extended display mode
- tested DUPLICATING monitors (in the Lenovo native resolution of 1366x768) and do NOT experience the overscan
- adjusted horizontal & vertical within the OSD of the 244T (the thresholds are minor)
- used auto adjust on the 244T
- played around with the scaling in the advanced properties of Intel Graphics Control ... Read more

title basically says it. what gives? i have a 24" lcd capable of 1920x1200 which is driven fine by itself, but in the mode with the internal laptop display on, the resolustion will not exceed 1024x768 in 16 bit on the external monitor... which looks terrible. this is via vga ... not the displayport. i could get the displayport cable though, since my external screen has hdmi. i would just need the converter i guess. but i'm not sure that would make a difference? my intel driver is dated 6/11/2008 ... and i can't seem to update for some reason. again - not sure this has anything to do with it or not.  thanks!

Hi folks! After struggling with this problem 2 days ago: Now I have a new problem: I have literally NO DISPLAY!Either the internal LCD or an external LCD monitor provide NO output. It seems like, judging from the HD lights, etc. that the system is booting normally. I'm able to boot into windows and, remembering key combinations, can shut down windows normally (Start key, U, U). So I think the system is booting up just fine. It's just that there is literally NO display. I've even tried to wait until I"m in windows, then open up the display manager (I assume....FN+F7), then scroll down to other video output options to try and force it to use an external monitor....that doesn't seem to create video output, though I'm fairly confident I'm getting the Display Manager to try and switch... Any thoughts?  Thanks! -Stephen

Hello, I have a problem with my T410 (model: 25223FG)with Nvidia NVS 3100M  (driver version  (27.06.2010) ) .The Fn+F3 Key-Command is configured to turn of the display. In almost 50% of the cases where I use the Key-Command (fn+F3), the display turns off but does not turn on again on mouse movement or key-press or touch-pad action. The faulty behaviour occures always when the T410 is connected to the AC adapter. And the chance of the display not turning on again seems to become higher with increase of the duration between Key-Command and mouse movement. In these test cases my energy manager configuration was set to not turn of anything, when connected to AC. If I configure it to turn of the display after some time I am experiencing the same problem. So my question is:Does anyone have a suggestion where to start? (display driver, bios,...) RegardsJonny

I have a G20 running XP Media Centre Edition with an Nvidia GeForce Go 6600. I have been using the 1440x900 setting up until now on the laptop's screen but have just bought a 22" monitor and am using that instead.

The problem is that the resolution of the monitor is 1680x1050 and I can't seem to be able to set that. The only options are 1440x900 or 1600x1200. Does anyone know how I can get the graphics chip to output 1680x1050?

Many thanks

Hello William

I have no experience with this but somewhere on this forum I have read similar topic. Before you wait here use advanced search option and use ?1680 x 1050? as searched term. I am pretty sure you will find this topic where one guy explained how to set 1680 x 1050 resolution on external monitor.

Dear guys,

I have a Tecra R850 laptop (the graphic card is an AMD Radeon HD 6450M) with a PA3916A-1PRP port replicator.

I already have a 23" running at 1920x1080 connected via HDMI.
I would like to buy a 27" to run it at 2560 x 1440.

So my ideal configuration would be the 27" at 2560 as main monitor and the 23" at 1920 as second monitor. One monitor (the 23") has Display Port, DVI and VGA input, the other one has DVI, Display Port 1.2, Mini Display Port 1.2, HDMI.

Is it possible to connect them as I wish (I would love to avoid the use of VGA)?
Do I need other stuff (another docking for example) to accomplish that?

Any idea is good for me!

Thanks a lot

Answer:Tecra R850 with 27" display at 2560 x 1440 and 23" display at 1920x1080

Generally speaking you may be able to connect two external monitors at a time depending on your notebook model.

In user manual of Tecra R850 you can read that when the Toshiba HI-Speed Port Replicator II is connected to the notebook, you cannot use _notebook?s_ external RGB (VGA) port.
This port will not work.

Furthermore you cannot use port replicator?s HDMI port and Display Port at the same time.
The hi-speed port replicator II contains a slider which can be moved to choose either the HDMI port or Display Port.

So it seems that you have one option to connect two externa monitors: (VGA + HDMI)
one monitor to HDMI/Display port and other to VGA/RGB port (port replicator's RGB port)

Another option to connect two external monitors at the same time, you should use another docking solution like for example Dynadock U3. It supports an HDMI and DVI port which can be used at the same time.

2082-RF1 The laptop has had some display issues for a few months.  An external monitor through DisplayPort has always been the way I have viewed content. A few months ago, I tried to view the laptop's screen, and noticed that I could not get it to be viewable.  It was blank.  Disconnecting the external monitor, and restarting, had no effect.Since then, the internal screen has always been blank, whenever I have checked.Additionally, issues started to occur intermittently, with the external monitor signal.-The screen resolution would change upon start-up, and sometimes it would change after start-up. -The screen would blink to blank whenever the mouse wheel scrolled.-The monitor would have pixels sparkle in multi-color  (nice glitch for the holidays) Today, the external monitor stopped showing any content.  It simply gives the message of going into energy saving mode.   I am assuming that the issue is within the laptop, as opposed to the monitor itself, since the internal screen has been non-functional for a few months now.  What would be the best route for troubleshooting?I notice there is noticable dust build-up around the  venting areas, and was considering disassembling in order to fully clean out any dust. Are there any known issues with the video in this model?

Answer:T500 (2082)- Display problem - No Display on laptop or external.

Hi, mouserU
What is your operating system? I looked up the Personal Systems Reference for the T500 (2082) (seen here). When you navigate to that page, you can find your machine faster by searching (Ctrl + F) for "T500 2082." In Windows VIsta, this computer had the ability to do switchable graphics from the discrete card to the integrated and vice-versa. I'm not sure whether this ability has carried over through other OSes without aid of a driver (seen here.)
As for troubleshooting, I would first recommend seeing if you can boot the machine by means of another port on the machine, such as VGA, to see if you can get an image over to an external monitor. Not being able to see an image is most likely an indication of a bad video card. One last question for clarification: You can see nothing, not even BIOS, on either screen, correct?

Since few days I have my Thinkpad not getting starting up. I did find some  bits and pieces information in forums, but would look to confirm if it would need a motherboard replacement, which is a costly affair and I really am not sure if I should go for it or better go for a new laptop. It is a 15"  T42P (type 2373 N49) having 2GB RAM, 128 MB ATI Mobility FIREGL T2 and a 9 cell battery. I got it from a reseller in ebay about 10 months back (I got an additional 1gb RAM while i got from him) and till now I am more than impessed by the system's performance and I admire it a lot ; very good power for my use and great display. Recently (before this issue appeared) I had noticed heating in the underside and also near the touchpad, which was slightly above than what I used to feel in the past. And one day while a video was being played it all went frozen and got hung. later it wouldnt boot up too. Just before it went frozen, there were some grainy lines/area (covering quite some portion in the screen) giong on and off. A few days before this incident when the laptop was used to play movies kept on a bed and during then I had felt some over heating too. I now regret this because I do think- that might have caused some overheating to the unit because of the underside vents getting no air circulation while kept on a bed or similar surface which is not firm. I took it to a local service shop-he was able to boot it up and run it for some time, while pressing the back.... Answer:T42P Display problem / overheating? / ATI display processor issue?

replacing the GPU??? It is soldered onto the motherboard, and the problem with video display is not the GPU itself, but rather the GPU is coming loose from the motherboard, so i don't see how the GPU replacement is solving the issue. There is also the chance that the overheating in GPU due to improper ventilation that is causing problem. i will be highly suspicious of what the person says (probably trying to fool you). The GPU used in the T42p is extremely rare, and i would highly doubt that he can obtain an example from anywhere, these laptop GPU are NOT something you can get from some supplier just like that.Message Edited by lead_org on 05-25-2009 10:25 AM

I have a dell 250N smartsep laptop. The monitor has gone extremely dim. Not completely dark, but very dim, almost like trying to look through a heavily tinted window. The computer works as normal otherwise.

I intend to hook up to an external monitor to determine if it's a monitor or graphics card problem.

Assuming it's the monitor, is there a way to determine if the problem is with the lcd display itself, or the backlight? And if it is that is there usually something that can be done without changing the entire monitor?

All suggestions are welcome, my warranty is up so I'm fully prepared to take apart the monitor myself.

well you may be able to see the backlight from the back so you can tell. usually it is bright white and i mean bright!!! it probably is the backlight. they can be replaced.

Hi guys

So I'm watching Bloomberg on in IE9 on my second display which is fine. However, I want to watch it in full screen which works BUT whenever I do a mouse click, type, etc. on my primary display, the full screen on the secondary display exits and goes back to the normal browser view.

I haven't got much hopes for this, but is there a way to prevent it from happening? i.e. get another browser or some setting I could change somewhere?

I know there's the standalone version for livestation but the latest beta won't work on my laptop at the moment.

Thanks for any input!

Answer:Second display full screen closes when working on primary display

As IE9 is a beta, it may cause issues like this as its not a final release, for a production machine or one you need, its not best to run beta prodcuts, I would either unsinstall IE9 which adds IE8 back or run a different browser (Opera or Firefox) for watching Bloomberg.

One thing to try before changing browsers is to make sure your Graphic Card driver is upto date as IE9 uses the GPU to help render pages, so this is where going full screen may crash the browser as the driver may not be complient with IE9 yet (many makers dont issue drivers until the final release of products, nVidia are a pain for this and where so for many who tested beta's of Vista and Windows 7)

Recently I purchased a new 27" 4K monitor and upgraded my machine from win 8.1 to win 10 in order to get better support for higher DPI for my multi monitor rig.
Here are when the problems started:
1. the main problem is that with the main monitor set to 175% scale (looks good) the two other monitors are set to 100% scaling - (icons/text looks giant - basically almost unusable). If I set it to a lower scaling (on the 4K monitor) I can't read the text or see the icons as they are so small.
2. when the monitors goes to sleep things get massed up - icons on the main monitor turn tiny and open tabs on the main monitor move to the 24" monitor for no reason.
My system:
Intel 5820k - 6 core + Asus X99, 32GB ram. Asus GTX970. latest nvidia drivers.
1. 27" Dell 4K - main (connected using DP).
2. 24" Dell 1920x1200 (connected using DVI).
3. 23" LG 1680x1050 (connected using HDMI).
I talked to MS and the representative (who had really poor English and I am not sure knew what he was talking about) who said that the only way this will work is if I connect the 2 lower res displays to a second GPU. I have a few but they are old GT210 is the newest (I have 8800GT which is super old). I tried to connect the GT210 but it is not recognized by win 10 and I can't seem to install it along with the 970GTX to see if it will work or not (buying something newer just for the very low chance that it will help seems kind of silly).
Ideas on what I can do?

Hi Guys,  I'm the IT handiman at a local business. Things have been going okay, so they brought me a Yoga 2 Pro that they had abandoned because it's screen went weird so now it only shows colors.  So, when I turn on the computer, the display immediately starts cycling through colors. When I use an adapter to the micro HDMI, I can see the display on an external display. I can even change the display settings to essentially use the yoga as a computer tower log onto the computer like normal and enable RDP so I can get SOME use out of the machine as a server box, but that feels like a waste of a high performance machine. Video.  IDK what's wrong. If it was a graphics card or something, I would think that I wouldn't be able to use the external display. I'm not sure what's up or what to see about trying to order and replace.  Anyone have any idea what I should look at? I can make this laptop into the little print server we need, since it's not good for much else right now, but I'd rather get it back in service as a laptop and use a lower end machine for a simple print server.  Help me? Please?

Answer:Yoga 2 Display only showing colors. Seems to still work with external display.

I looks like a dead LCD display, or a dead ribbon cable to me, I had a similar issue with my C340, wasn't software related. You can try to contact Lenovo support, they may be able to repair it.

Hi, I have Thinkpad Edge E330 bought this July, with win8 downgraded to win7. It recently started a problem where the laptop's own display doesn't display anything (just blank) if I don't have external display connected. The external display doesn't have be in use, just connected, and E330's own display works fine. If I disconnect the external display, the E330's own display goes blank also. It doesn't matter what display setting I have. Any advice on this?Currently I'm not able to use my E330 as a laptop at all.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to hear that display in your Lenovo ThinkPad E330 is not working properly unless you connect it to an external display.
Have you tried using your machine in safe mode? If that works, try rolling back your display drivers or reinstall it.
Go to Lenovo Support page to download the latest drivers, Please click on "Select Product", then in "QUICK PATH" enter E330 and select the exact model depending on the MTM number of your device.
Hope this helps!

Hy everybody :)
So this problem occurs in 95% of time when external display is connected. Picture looks like it has artefacts, and color is all scrambled. Ati tools doesnt detect any artefacts, and restart of the system or waking up after standby "solves" the problem.
BIOS is latest, ram was upgraded from 1 to 2 GB, there is no difference which OS is used or which drivers are used (official or modded).

EDIT: Not long time ago I started playing battlefield2, and this happens often in this game but in no other (HAWX for example)
EDIT2:This corruption of display happens only on primary display, never on external.

So any ideas of how to solve this?

this is a strange one to me...

the hdwe is a hp "minitower" athlon processor, embedded nvidia vid, fairly fast and responsive on a good day.
I worked on this system a year ago, obsessively, setting up Vista as well as is possible - lean/clean/stable.
recently the primary user account, upon logging in, gets a "noise" display on the monitor that looks like an inability to sync.
I shall not rule out the possibility that an "extortion-ware" malware is causing this but extensive checks don't show any malicious thingies. There is a lightly used, tech-support second user account that logs in fine.
I set the display properties on the troubled account, the display looked normal again, but after a couple of days of use, the bad display issue is back.

is this a known issue? video refresh rate anomaly ??? why would it be "fine" for a year, then suddenly develop the problem? debug steps?

I worked on it 2 weeks ago and it was fine when I finished, now in the ditch again so I'm fishing for new debug steps to try and determine what exactly causes it to go non-linear...

thanks for your suggestions

On the Portege M200 tablet PC bought by me recently the problem is that at a resolution of 1024x768 the display on the screen is not very crisp and clear where as it is ok at the peak resolution of 1400x1050.
It is very difficult to work at peak resolution for long hours as the size and readibility of text is too tiny on a 12 inch screen. Is there a way to get around this problem by getting clear and crisp display at resolution of 1027x768 or any other.

Answer:Portege M200 : Hazy display on 1024 x 768 display settings

Hi Puneet

To give you a short answer: no.

The background for this lies in the way a TFT is built.
You have the number of fixed pixels in the TFT that corresponds to the best resolution of the screen. If you want to have a lower resolution then the screen and videocard have to figure out how to show a picture that is smaller (less resolution f.ex. 1024x768) on a bigger screen (higher resolution f.ex. 1400x1050).
The way the video does it is that it will double or tripple (or whatever is needed) a piece of data that normally is shown only on 1 pixel.
Means that it 'stretches' the picture over the screen.
The result is that either the picture is crisp but looks like a 'staircase' or 'mosaic' (like when you zoom in on a digital photo too much) or as of now the videochips does some tricky mathematics to smooth the picture but then it gets like you say - hazy.
If we could disable the stretch function, then you would have a square in the middle looking crisp but still very small (in fact the same small icons as in 1400x1050) and with black borders around it.

The only way to go lower in resolution and still have a crisp picture is to use an external monitor (either CRT or a 1024x768 TFT if that is the resolution you need).
The CRT can handle the stretch in a much better way because it does not have the fixed pixels exactly the same way the TFT do.

Sorry for the long speech! :)

I have a Toshiba A200 - 1AI with Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 graphics, the laptop has a widescreen 1280x800. When a Taxan/Plus 1024x768 digital projector is plugged in and the option set to display on both display devices, the laptop changes to 1024x768 and stretches to fit the widescreen, the projector is perfect.

I would prefer the laptop to display non distorted with a black bar to each side of the screen. There is an option in the Bios that suggests this is posible and indeed when set the bios screen displays in this undistorted way, hoever when Vista boots it reverts to the stretched format.

Is there any way of geting round this.

Answer:Satellite A200-1AI: widescreen display when using a digital projector with 4x3 display

Did you saved the settings in the BIOS after changing this display option??
Please don?t forget to do this!!!

But if you have saved the settings and the display stills change to the stretched 1024x768 resolution, then you should check the nVidia graphic functions in the control panel of the Vista OS.

Go to the NVIDIA control panel and check the advanced view.

Good luck

I have a Gateway 22" LCD display that is less than a month old.

Recently, I have noticed that when I turn on the display it takes about 40-50 seconds until it displays the picture, whereas it used to display the picture almost instantly when I turned on the display. Once the display is on, the monitor seems to function just fine.

I can't recall making any sort of changes that would effect this sort of issue, so I am wondering if anyone in here has had a similar experience, or can offer up any sort of advice on how to go about fixing this?

This happens as soon as the VGA adapter is plugged in. Unplugging it does not turn the laptop screen back on. Toggling with the function keys does nothing. Since I cannot see anything I cannot try to adjust/correct display settings (or do anything for that matter, other than turn the laptop off by holding power key down).

The second display works (tested with a different laptop).

History: The external display worked fine with this laptop. We had a power failure yesterday which turned it off. The screen toggled to the laptop successfully (or I did, with the function keys--I don't remember) and I continued working. When power returned I started running into this issue. I reinstalled the display drivers from the original manufacturer disc but the problem persists.

To shut down properly hit the Winkey, then the right arrow, then Enter.

This may be as simple as capacitors overcharged. Shut down, unplug, remove battery. Hold power button down for 20 secs.
Do same for monitor.
Then try.

I started having issues yesterday, the day after I installed teamviewer a program that is on my iPad also to remotely control the laptop. At first the screen started freezing when I was in the middle of a Java game. So I restarted the laptop only to have it freeze at the main screen (after login).

The screen would freeze the display would change to a very low resolution (I think). So I kept restarting it only to repeat. Until eventually once past the windows logo the screen would turn black and blank. Sometimes the display would turn on black and blank and other times it would do that after the logo.

A few times I managed to get it to go into safe mode and I restored to a few days ago but it made no difference, I also tried many other things like changing some settings but nothing worked.

So after like 2 or 3 hours I Rolled back and disabled "nvidia quadro nvs 135m" (since I read it might be causing the issue and I should uninstall it which I couldn't), once I disabled it I restarted the computer and made it to the main screen without issues, and I could even load my game. I enabled it again And restarted the computer only to have the same issues so I disabled it again after finally getting into safe mode.

I don't know if it works fine now, I left it on at most for 5-10 minutes without any issues and I never actually logged into the game to see if it works.

I figured out that in my display settings instead of showing my main monitor it only sho... Read more

I have a weird issue with my G550 (which is out of warranty).  The screen flickers and distorts (fuzzy colours around objects on the screen).   If I flex the case in a certain way the problem goes away, it's hard to describe but if I apply pressure in a certain direction to the back left of the case it solves the issue... but as soon as I stop applying pressure it goes away.  I'm thinking it's a loose connection somewhere between the GPU and the display, but I'm not entirely sure where to look.  If I plugin in external displays they work fine, no flickering or distortion at all.

Answer:G550: Display flickers / distorts. External display fine.

hi deicist,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If the LCD screen flickers when you open or close the lid or if tilt the LCD screen on a certain angle then the problem lies on the LVDS or LCD cable (possibly got worn out by opening/closing the lid alot of times). If you're interested in fixing it, you can get spare parts here:

Caution: Please be careful in disassembling your PC as it may contain sensitive parts.

Hope this helps.

Hello Everybody,

I have just set up my old TECRA A2 Laptop with Windows XP newest version (including SP3).
Everything works fine. The only issue is that I cannot access my FN Keys in order to increase or decrease the brightness of the display.

I have installed all drivers and I have recognized that the problem is a not proper installed Power Saver although I downloaded the "newest" Power Saver for the TECRA A2.

After the installation there always appears the message; "You don't have Access Rights to access Power Saver". Now that's strange as I have logged on as administrator to the A2.

As I am still struggeling with this issue I really ask for help and support.
Everything else is working fine and properly it is just this issue that I am not able to adjust the display brightness.

Every help would be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Best Regards

Answer:Tecra A2 - Display Keys FN to adjust the display brightness are NOT working

You should install the Common Module firstly.
This module is an essential component of the Windows systems.
It is required to make other original TOSHIBA programs work properly.

Then you should install the Power Saver as well? it managed the display brightness.

I have an M1330 with the Intel graphics and the LED backlit display. I'm running Windows Seven RC1. I cannot adjust the brightness of the display at all in Windows Seven - it doesn't matter if I use the FN+Up / FN+Down keys, the brightness option slider bar in Windows, or adjust it in bios. The back light is either at 100% brightness, or it's off completely.
Anybody know of a fix for this?

Answer:Why can't I adjust the display brightness on my M1330? (using Win7 & LED backlit display)

This is a beta operating system - presumably the problem will be fixed before late October when WIn 7 is released.  For now, you cannot expect a manufacturer to support an OS that has yet to be released.

I recently hooked up a secondary monitor to my ati 9800 XT, and its crap!

It's a Goldstar Stuidoworks 76i monitor. I have a dvi-vga adaptor and a regular vga-m/m cable. the problem isnt with the dvi cause if i plug my good monitor into the dvi adaptor, it works well and the 76i is still blurry.

the problem is if i change the resolution to anything greater than 800x600, the picture gets very fuzzy, and unusable. i've tried lots of different freq. combinations, and tried changing the colour as well. i looked all over for drivers for the monitor but i didnt find any for XP, i found something that was basically colour profiles, i loaded them, but they didnt change anything.

am i forgetting something? or is the monitor just CRAPOLA?

thank you so much for your help!!

- satan.

Answer:Fuzzy Secondary Display? 9800XT dual display issues.

Well since you checked to DVI adapter with another monitor I say your monitor is going bad. How old is it? There might be a label with the year on it the back. I have seen this happen to monitors only old 3 years old but usually it monitors older than that.

Other signs indicating its near death is a high pitch whine at higher resolutions or max brightness and contrast.

Tell us what you find.

Recently the backlight went out on the wifes’ laptop display. Thinking that I was pretty smart, I picked up a replacement on eBay.
What came out of the laptop is a 15.0 XGA Samsung with a part number of 5F4G64512F.
What I ended up with (my own fault) was a LG Phillips LP150X2 XGA Display. The cable is different, however it still plugs into the video card.
So I figure ill give it a try any way.

The display only displays on two thirds (left side). See Signature for system info. .

What should I do? I’m lost.

Hi, I have windows 7 professional running on my thinkpad t61 laptop. One day when I restarted my laptop, suddenly the display is divided in two horizontal identical screens. I checked with Win + p key and found that no second device is connected. When I connect my TV with VGA, and duplicate/extend the display, I see ok in TV, but my laptop preserves two screen.  Even I reinstalled windows7 but the issues is not resolved. I don' t understand why it looks ok in TV but not in my laptop screen? If you wish I can upload a picture of how it looks like. I have tried to change the resolution, but no result, Tried to install latest driver, but no luck. Please suggest a solution. thanks

Answer:Thinkpad T61, Display is splitted horizontally in two identical display

Welcome to the forum!
Could you please:
a) Let us know the full 7-character model number of your T61, located on the same sticker that holds the serial number and the production date on the bottom of the laptop?
b) Upload an image of the issue at hand to one of the free hosting sites (photobucket etc.) and post a link here?
Good luck.

So the thinkpad yoga looks great.. When are they going to upgrade the yoga 2 pro to a thinkpad yoga 2.  12.5 screen is to small for my day to day (even with 21" external hooked up.  And I want 500G SSD, Thinkpads are a lot less business friendly then they used to be.. what happened? (long battery would be nice too).Does anyone know where one can find "new release info"?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Pen and External Display (pen on wrong display)

X series have always had a small 12 inch convertible laptop. X41t to X230t have all being around 12 inch. So ThinkPad Yoga has continued the tradition of offering 12 inch screen size. You can easily do the hdd upgrade yourself, i have put a 1 tb ssd in my ThinkPad Yoga, and it has been fantastic. I guess that is the benefit of the ThinkPad Yoga with its 2.5 inch hdd slot, compared to other tablets that use PCI-e or M.2. SSD standards.

I have a minidisplay port to hdmi cable, which I can plug directly into my computer and then into the TV. I use a Macbook Pro, and when booting on Mac OS the wire works perfectly well, however when switching over to windows 7 the image is very weird it's very grainy, with lots of red dots and lines going through the image, and the image is also always flickering. I've altered every aspect resolution, tried every possible combination of hrtz and also updated the graphics driver. Yet still no difference, can anyone possibly explain to me why this is and if theres a solution. Thanks.

I am very happy with my ThinkPad Yoga S1 and do like very much the digitizer pen capability. It works well (given some calibration issues) when the Yoga works without an external display. However, as soon as an external display is connected, the pen outputs always on the external display (and not the internal).
I have the yoga connected through OneLink Pro, and an external monitor connected to the display port. I am using both the internal screen as well as the external screen in the extended mode (i.e. not duplication). When I use the pen on the yoga screen, the actions appear on the external display (and not on the yoga screen). This is very confusing, as the pen actions don?t appear where I apply them.
I?ve attempted to set the yoga screen as the main screen, but did not have success. Also using DVI instead of display port did not help. I also tried it with three displays (internal, DVI, DP) all in the extended mode (it is nice that these setup as possible by the way), but the pen still it appears on the display port monitor.
In order to use the pen meaningfully, I do have to disconnect all external monitors and work only with the yoga screen.
Anybody has seen this? Is this an issue of the pen driver (all updated to the latest state) or the operating system (Windows 8.1, 64bit)?
Thanks for any help in advance!

I have a Samsung Galaxy TabPro S and there is a very annoying problem to do with the display where after it times out, the display will not immediately wake up. Windows isn't in a sleep state as my music still plays in the background while the display is off. I have also turned off connected standby in the registry.

An example is when you leave your PC on and the monitor turns off but the PC is still running and not in sleep or hibernation, but when you shake the mouse or press a key, it will not instantly turn the display on and seems like the display itself has went to sleep.

Is there a setting I can change to do with the display itself so it wakes up immediately on keyboard/mouse click?

TLDR; Display itself takes very long to wake up rather than instant after screen timeout. Looks like the display has went into a form of sleep rather than Windows 10.

well, I believe that vista comes with loads more problems than XP. I messed up my XP because I mess with it, but vista? doesn't even touch it but it messed up by itself! argh.

to make the story short. about 3 hrs ago I went online and presented with 14 new CRITICAL updates from windows update. I picked everything that's under 1MB in size so I can speed up the install process. the last time I tried to install everything, got many problems from some updates refused to install and some are even failing and wants to be re-downloaded only to fail again because the order of installing those stuff isn't correct. nuts. well anyway, so I picked about 6-8 updates if not mistaken. then the computer wants to reboot, so I did let it reboot, and it came back OK. then I left for the bathroom for about 5 minutes, when I came back the screen already go to screen saver mode and when I move the mouse all I see is this garbled display. so I shut the computer down, waited about 10 minutes and turn it on. the problem is worse, the whole screen is white! I can't see a darn thing. it turned black for a while when the windows green bar thingy supposed to came on, but then it goes back to white. geez!

Hello. This laptop is almost a year old (still under warranty). It was in HP service center and their conclusion is that everything is OK with laptop because they could not reproduce error with their HDD and their OS (that is what they actually said). Problem is with display. From time to time (not always) thin white line is shown on top of blue or gradiant blue or similar color (I'm attaching links to photos because they are too large to upload - if you look closely at photos, you will notice it on blue color): Photo 1Photo 2 Now, I picked up laptop from service last week and my warranty is valid for 2 more weeks or something like that. Any suggestions what to do? It seems that HP Service Center (MR Servis d.o.o., Zagreb, Croatia, Europe) doesn't care or they are not capable to properly test laptop. My ThinkPad T500 running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional Edition worked great on and off a mini docking station with 2 external monitors. The dual-display setup allowed me to have more desktop space; when needed, I can take the laptop off the docking station (following undocking steps) and use it anywhere. This convenience no longer holds after upgrading to Windows 10.

With the T500 in the docking station (LCD lid closed), I can use the dual-display setup as in Windows 7. However, after shut-down and remove the T500 off the docking station and the T500 laptop becomes unusable because its LCD display doesn't show anything after boot. I just bought an external USB Blu-ray drive and a copy of PowerDVD 13. When I try to play a Blu-ray disc (no external displays attached) on the internal 3K display, the attempt fails with the following message: "CyberLink PowerDVD is unable to play this media because the required HDCP could not be initiated. Hi Everyone,

I bought a new monitor last week and since setting it up I seem to be having some connection issues. In the past, I had one HDMI-out from the GPU to the AV Reciever by my TV (where I do most of my gaming) and a DVI out heading from my GPU to the PC monitor. It worked fine.

But, my old monitor stopped working last week so I purchased a new one. It doesn't have a DVI input so I purchased a Display-Port to HDMI cable which also works fine with the new monitor. The cable to the AV receiver hasn't been moved and is also working fine.

The problem though is that when I set-up my TV as the main display and the PC monitor falls asleep Windows seems to think it's connecting and reconnecting over and over again. I hear the hardware connection/disconnections sounds infinitely and the TV screen blinks a black screen every time.

I have tried a few solutions, mainly involving power-management settings. None of these worked except for disabling "USB Selective Suspend Setting", but then I was having connection trouble with my wireless devices like my mouse and steam controller.

My graphics card is a Gigabyte R9 290, and I am running Windows 10. Thanks in advance for helping me troubleshoot guys. Happy to participate and answer any questions to get this resolved.

Hello,i bought an x220t about over a year ago. I really love it, but what always bugged me a little bit is that i don't have any touch capabilities because of the outdoor screen. So I searched for the right panel via the FRU numbers given on the support pages for replacement parts. I found that one here for an reasonable price IMO. Now i have a few questions regarding that.1. Is it easily enough (e.g. i dont have to reglue anything etc.) possible to replace just the display panel? 2. Can you trust shops on alieexpress (so chinese stores) for replacement parts?3. How does the display compare to the outdoor one ? Glossiness etc.? I hope somebody can help me out a bit here

Go to Solution.

Answer:Changing x220t Outdoor display with multitouch display

It is fairly easy after you have done several. If you have never done one, it can be hard. Nothing to glue. ^You remove the LCD bezel, along the bottom of the screen. You take off the LCD sub card, and then you can unscrew the panel. The screen can pull off. Taking pictures as you disassemble will help you get it together. There is a lot of stuff to get back inside and it needs to be done correctly or it won't fit. That looks like a good price but I have no experience with any of the aliexpress shops. Screen preferences are subjective. I prefer the look of the touch panel. I don't tend to use the machine outside

Hello guys! I really need someones help. I my video card is nvidia geforce gt 520mx
So this is what happened:
Right Click on background > Screen Resolution. I accidentally switched the display that shows everything that happens in the monitor to the one that does not.

Here is a picture I made using my other computer:

I pressed "Detect" and after it showed 2 more blanked displays.
In the "Display" there was something like "Only show display 1" (which is a default display) and "Only show Display 2" which is the display from geforce 520.

I wanted to get rid of the other displays, but accidentally pressed on "Only show display 2"
So now my laptop does not display anything, it became blank.

When I restart laptop and click on "Start Windows Normally" it shows Windows starting and then everything becomes blank.
When I restart laptop using "Safe Mode", the computer starts but I cannot change the display to the default one, it shows totally different display.
Here is a picture I made in safe mode:

What can I do to solve this? I tried to do "System Restore" in safe mode but it shows some weird window

Please help.

Hi there,
after a RAM upgrade my PC has developed a display problem. The graphics are slow / rippled and video playback is very poor. In device manager no "display adaptors" are present and there is also an error mesage referring to the VIA CPU to AGP2/AGP3.0 controller not having enough free resources to run due to a conflisct with VGAsave? I've tried downloading the latest graphics drivers (Radeon 9500 and XP HE v2002 SP3) but this fails saying components are missing? I've also downloaded the latest VIA chipset drivers to no effect as well?

In display properties there is no information except that Windows is using VGAsave?

I've tried searching the forums but haven't been able to find anyone with the same problem, so if a thread already exists and I just failed at finding it please point me in that direction.

I have a Lenovo L440 laptop running Windows 10 1607, it has an Intel HD Graphics 4600 video card which lists the last available driver as 15.40 from the 23rd of June 2017.

It has an issue where I connect a projector and I get the flashing display to indicate another display was detected and connected, but nothing displays out to the projector (which is set to use the correct input). I press the shortcut to duplicate the displays and nothing happens. I go in to display settings, and see 5 displays (give or take depending on the laptop) despite only one external one being connected. If I tell it to use displays 1 and 2, nothing, so disable display 2. Then tell it to use displays 1 and 3, nothing, so disable display 3. Repeat this process enough time, it'll eventually come to the display the projector is configured as (sometimes having to add additional displays to what was being shown originally).

It's OK for me to do this as I'm the IT guy, but it's not OK for the staff to do this.

Here is a sample screenshot from another machine with the same problem. Only one external screen (2 in total) is connected.

Some machines with more up to date video cards such as Intel 540's have had driver updates putting them to 15.46, and the problem is thus resolved. It's back to behaving as expected fo... Read more

I have a Benq FP7IE+ monitor that has suddenly stopped working. Here's the breakdown:

-when you turn the monitor on when hooked to a computer it will sometimes show the display for a brief moment (ie. showed HP booting screen at startup) and than stops displaying, but the blue light stays on the unit as if it is receiving a display. Other times it will display nothing at all, but the blue light stays on.

-with the blue light on if you attempt to press any of the menu buttons on the monitor itself again nothing is displayed.

-I don't believe that it's a refresh rate or driver issue even though I reinstalled the driver and hooked the monitor to PC running in safe mode and still no display (even though the blue light stays on).

-not the VGA cable, tried another, same result.

-hooked monitor to PC with the identical monitor working on it, same result, no display.

-if you unplug the power cord from the monitor and then plug back in and power back on it will always show the "Benq - Energy Star Qualified Monitor" screen as bright as ever, but then nothing is display even though blue light stays on.

-tried monitor on 3 different computers, no display on any of them.

Any idea what might be causing this? I apologize for being so long winded, but I wanted to include as many details as possible.

Answer:LCD monitor display shows for a second and than nothing (but display light stays on)

Windows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup.

Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex. left/right/top/bottom).

GeForce 8400 GS; Dual Monitor Solution 59 pin (DMS-59) to 2 VGA adapter -tried two of these adapter cables.
Latest Driver: 306.23 - installed a clean reset install of the latest Nvidia driver released last week.
Same Resolution: 2 of the 4 monitors I have tried have the exact same 'recommended' resolution (1280X 1024), both 60Hz, and even chose 16 bit color for both instead of 32 to reduce resources.

Linux worked: Dual display worked immediately when I tried it in Ubuntu 10. So, it's not the hardware. It works in Ubuntu 12 too but not properly -it won't transfer windows across displays.
My Windows 7 64 is an upgrade from Vista 64. One person in another forum with the same problem resolved theirs by reinstalling Windows 7. But another got the same problem only after a fresh clean install of Windows 7 64 with the same GeForce 8400 GS and DMS-59 when it had previously worked in Vista. Dual Monitors - On... Read more

Hi, I have a Lenovo Z500 and I recently cracked my display.I went and replaced it, but after that my display brightness would only change on minimum or maximum, nothing between. I upgraded to BIOS 1.21, I reinstalled LEM and Intel HD 4000 Graphics drivers (I tried 4 different versions) but still nothing, the display brightness will only change to min or max. What other options are there and what could be the problem, keeping in mind I replaced my LED display with an exact same one?

Answer:Z500 display brightness issues after replacing LED display

I forgot to mention I use Windows 7 on my Z500 IdeaPad.

After running my B570 (1068) with an extended display, the unit went into hibernation. On wake-up the laptop screen is indecipherable garbage. The second display will run to show BIOS startup but then reverts to the built-in screen - which is illegible. Toggling the F3 key does not get a good screen. I read another post suggesting this is a hardware failure. What parts have failed?

Hello, i am using a Belinea 2025 S1 as a second display to enhance the Desktop of my R61 ThinkPad (8918DEG). Max. resolution of the ThinkPad is 1680 x 1050 and max. resolution of the Belinea is 1400 x 1050. I tried to configure the system to use both displays with their max. resolution, but for the Belinea only 1280 x 1050 is used. The NVIDIA control panel allows to configure user-specific resolutions. When setting the user-specific resolution to 1400 x 1050 the test-screen appears and everything seems to be fine, but if i close the test-screen the program crashes. I restarted the program immediatedly and was able to change the resolution for the Belinea to 1400 x 1050. The problem is: This setting is gone after i reboot the ThinkPad. Can anyone help?  Note:The system is up to date; e.g. there is no newer version of the NVIDIA Controlcenter available. regards,  Robert

Answer:Use max display resolution of an external Display with NVIDIA Quadro NVS

why don't you just use the windows display property instead.

Tonight I was playing a good old game. I minimized to my desktop while the game was running and pulled open Windows calculator, did some calculator stuff, but then the computer goes into a blue error screen and then restarts. A few moments later, the display on my monitor suddenly turns off as if it were put to sleep. And even if I turn it off cold and restart the computer, nothing appears on the display at all, not even a BIOS logo screen. So weird.

System specs:
AMD E-350 Processor x2 (1.6Ghz)
4GB RAM (upgraded from OEM default 2GB)
500GB Hard Drive
GRAPHICS: AMD Radeon HD 6310
Acer (eMachines)-EL1360G UW12P
bundled with eMachines brand monitor/speakers

Answer:Monitor display suddenly turns off, can't get the display back

You can try:

- Remove the power cord of monitor and PC for a minute. Not just shut down.
- Clear CMOS if you don't mind reconfiguring the BIOS

Hello, I am attempting to use the mini display port outpt on the Thinkpad Yoga14 to connect to an HDMI monitor using a miniDP to HDMI adapter. I've tried two different adapters. The monitor is never recognized. However, the mini-display port will work with a miniDP to DVI or miniDP to VGA adapter cable (I verfied this at a store where there were multiple cables and monitors to use). miniDP to HDMI: does not workminiDP to DVI: worksminiDP to VGA: works Has anyone else seen this problem?

I cannot get rid of the volume slider that is displayed at the top left of my screen. I've tried everything from rebooting, to uninstalling and reinstalling Realtek Audio.
