Preferred Solution: How do I remove the open with pop up ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Email will not open, says MSOERES.DLL not found, add/remove in control panel won't work, not even in safe mode, hijack this can only run in safe mode. All other spyware programs will not open in safe mode. This started after an update popped up for HP service pak 3. We run AVG and keep up with updates daily.

Thought I'd clean up my system by getting rid of programs I no longer want or use. Only problem is Add or Remove programs refuses to open. I did get it to open once but even after 3 minutes the screen stayed blank. So I thought close it and reopen, except I cant't get it to open.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I use XP Home

Try typing a command into the run box...if you can open windows explorer use the intergrated cd burner(drag and drop) and back up your files....then do a restore...if you have Cable or are always connected to the net this is probably a virus...i have had this happen before and i had to restore. dunno what else to say.....just download a good antivirus program and see if you can fix it first.....o wait u cant open internet explorer, well after the restore get AVG antivirus. It is free and will prevent this from happening again.

EDIT:to open explorer for backing up files go to start>run>type "explorer"(no quotes)

Answer:cant open add or remove programs for xp

Perhaps you have some missing registry entries. Try this:

Go to Start, then Run. In the box, type regsvr32 mshtml.dll and press Enter and OK. Then type regsvr32 shdocvw.dll -i and press Enter and OK. Finally, type regsvr32 shell32.dll -i and press Enter and OK.

See if that works.

Answer:add remove program will not open

Hi anthonymark and welcome to TSF !

Go to start => run and type regedit. In the registry editor navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Uninstall
And tell us if there's an entry called NoAddRemovePrograms in the right tab. If there's one then right-click => delete it.

If there's nothing there navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Uninstall
and look for the same entry.

I'd suggest that you create a backup of your registry with erunt before making any changes in it.

My question is how do i remove some of these items from the list or is it going to be a lengthily search through the registry (not that i mind editing the registry) its just i don't want to spend forever in there to remove a couple of things.

Did google searches, etc. but none of the cases matched mine.

When I goto Control Panel, I cannot access Add/Remove Programs, System, Security Center, or User Accounts. When I try to access any of those, I get a Windows Error Message saying "Another program is currently using this file." I've tried closing all unknown processes via Windows Task Manager, scanning my computer, restarting, restarting explorer, etc. None of which worked, obviously.

After checking google solutions to similar sounding problems, I attempted to run "rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Set
up\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt" via Run, and get the same Windows Error Message saying "Another program is currently using this file."

Any and all help would be much appreciated.

I recently reinstalled win2k on my laptop. It is running SP4.

I noticed a few days ago that add/remove programs wouldn't open, but I attributed it to needing to restart. I forgot about the program I was going to uninstall, and didn't think about it anymore. Then, today, I again tried to oped add/remove programs, and it won't work.

If I go into task manager, I can see the add/remove process running for every time I try to open it. Ending all those processes and trying to open it again does nothing.

WTF? Anybody know how to fix this problem?

I had opened the task manager to find several processes I didn't recognize and started searching the net for them, only to be more confused than when i started out. I have posted a hijackthis log at a different website about a month ago, but I have decided to try this one out since it was a different program (dss) and maybe it will read my system better. I went through the 5 steps to begin thing, however, I am unable to open add/remove programs to complete the first step and I don't recognize any of the rogue/suspect programs listed on the spyware warrior website, but, as previously stated, I am unable to open add/remove programs to check for sure. Panda Active scan never makes it past the registration page. I know step 3 is to download and install these "prevention programs", but I am just so unsure of the stability of my system that I do not want to reboot just yet if it freezes. I would first like to see if there is anything bad on it already. Please do not be offended, I am just scared that if I have to reboot that I will lose my computer for good. I already have SP2 on my system, so I skipped step 4. Here is the dss main.txt log and the extra.txt is attached. I appreciate the help I will receive.

Hi, I've had the open cloud security problem for about 2 weeks now, at first it kept popping up over and over again telling me I had all kinds of threats etc., I Googled it and followed the instructions for removal with the malwarebytes' malware removal kit, and it would find some infected files, and then the scan would stop just before it finished saying it experienced some kind of error. I also ran AVG and found some infected files, put them in the virus vault, and then emptied the vault. I put the open cloud security link from my desktop into the trash can and then emptied it, and the pop-ups about me being infected stopped, but I'm assuming it's still on here because I didn't really do anything, so I came on here, I read the preparation guide for removing the malware, and I downloaded the recommended files and ran the scans, and I'm attaching them below. I'm not very good with any of this, and I would really appreciate any help with removing it. Thank you.

My "Add remove Programs" wont run. No error message, it
just sits there. I tried this from Microsoft support page:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
3. In the Command window, type regsvr32 mshtml.dll, and then press ENTER.
4. Click OK to confirm that the registry entry has been added.
5. In the Command window, type regsvr32 shdocvw.dll -i, and then press ENTER.
6. Click OK to confirm that the registry entry has been added.
7. In the Command window, type regsvr32 shell32.dll -i, and then press ENTER.
8. Click OK to confirm that the registry entry has been added.
9. Close the Command window.

But it still wont work.

Also, I cant open my "External Hard Drive" (Local Disk K), no error message
here either. When I try to open it, it just hangs there. I have
to "end task". When I right click on the drive and pick "properties"
there is no name for it in the window, its blank. The other drives have a name
in the window like - HP_RECOVERY(Drive D) or HP_PAVILION(Drive C).
The Icon shows how many files are in there, but my computer is not reading/seeing them.
When AVG did its scan today, I seen it going through the files, so I know they
are still there.

Hi all,

I have few problems with my laptop here.
I'm using Compaq V6000, Window Xp.
I have problems in removing software and installing new software.
The problem starts from below:

At first i used my thumbdrive to print my project at a printer shop,
when i was back, and use my thumbdrive in my laptop, this message appear:

"HKLM\..\Run:[faizal]wscript.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\faizal.js."

This message also appear from my internet browser. I think it must be the virus, and i tried to delete this virus using my PCTOOL antivirus, but unfortunately it can't scan and function anymore (before that, it can function), wondering why?

So, i use TRENDMICRO "hijackthis" to scan and removed this trojan virus & it worked.

But, problem came back when i use my thumbdrive and other thumbdrives in my laptop, the same msg/virus came back.
When i use the TRENDMICRO "Hijackthis", it also detected messages which are:

1) HKCU\Software\Microsoft/InternetExplorer/Main, Window Title=Faizal
2) Reg:system.ini:UserInit=userinit.exe.password_viewer.exe
3) HKLM\..\Run:[faizal]wscript.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\faizal.js.

Whenever i wanted to install the new softwares, it can be installed but after i click to open the program, the TRENDMICRO "hijackthis" detected those virus/messages and deleted the virus.
I don't understand why if the virus has been deleted, it still came back.

One more problem is i want to delete/remove my PCTO... Read more

Hi!
I'm unable to open the Add/Remove Windows Components program. When I press the Windows Components button from within Add or Remove Programs, I get a number of error messages. The first thing I tried to fix it was to extract the sysoc.inf file from the XP CD and restart the PC. This took care of the first error message and left me with another:

"Setup was unable to open the information file wbemoc.inf. "

Pressing OK to that message brought up another:

"The Program could not be initialized."

I extracted wbemoc.inf from the CD which resolved that message, but then was given the same error for the file ntoc.inf. I extracted that file and was given yet another:

"The installation library for component Fax could not be initialized."

Does anybody know what's going on here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:not able to open add/remove windows components

Hi sangeethasri,

First try appwiz.cpl in Run box if this doesn't work then try

Start>Run>type in:C:\Windows\inf\sysoc.inf>ok
or,you can get it under
C:\Windows\INF
now Open the Sysoc.inf file by double clicking on it, or,you can do this
using Notepad.
There the items that have the word "HIDE" or "hide" in them are not
displayed on the Add/Remove Programs list.
Remove the "hide" text, leaving the commas.
Reboot your computer.
Now that component will then be viewable from Add\Remove programs.
You can choose to uninstall and reinstall the component as needed.

Hello.
Please help me out! I have been browsing and working on this for about a week and nothing fixed!
(initially I had more problems like browsing the web, spitting out http errors and specified method is not supported, or just saying no-output, outlook was not retrieving email kept asking me for my username and password and although they were correct nothing happened --- I have fixed those.) NOW --->

It seems that I cannot open regedit, cmd, regedt32, and other exes from the Start/Run.
When I type it in it seems like soft-rebooting my system or opening the My Documents folder.
I have run any antivirus program I could find. I have Norton Antivirus 360 installed. Nothing. Malwarebytes Anti-malware, Spybot, Ad-aware from Lavasoft, Dr. Web, escan... nothing! I also run the Kaspersky Online Scanner (twice) nothing. Also the NOD32 online scanner... nothing.
I did all these from Safe mode while have system restore unchecked.
Hijackthis does not show anything suspicious (as fas as I can tell).
I have also run the Symantec's removal tool for Erkez.b but nothing found to fix.
To be precise, Malwarebytes does not update. I updated to the latest rules.ref from another PC and put it in mine.

Also, I cannot access Mcafee's websites. Still getting error HTTP 505 or 400.

However, when I run every 1-2 hours (while still working on the problem) the Norton antivirus it keeps finding a tracking cookie saying that the risk is low and when I look up the details it ... Read more

Hi, im new to the forum, i found it just today.
I've just come off holiday and i did a routine scan etc, because i'd heard there had been yet another trojan.
Anyway, i went to open a file, (right clicking on 'Open with') and i noticed there were a few strange programmes:

'Dummy'
'ECZ + Easycrypto'
'IAregchn'
'PREVIEWCLIENT'
'UpdChn'
And finally 'Usmwin'
The only one out of the list ive had before is 'previewclient'. As i've been away, i havent been using the pc, so im assuming its someone in my family who's mucked around with it. I'm a bit concerned because i do online banking.
Ive run a few adware software etc, but it hasnt been able to remove it.. Can anyone help or advise? I've already taken my pc to a repair shop alot this year, and its costly. I also have had many programs to stop spyware, but alas, i keep getting it! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:How to remove 'Open with..' hidden programs?

Please follow standard cleanup procedures as given below:

- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

Download HijackThis 1.99.1

Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

Run HijackThis and save your log file.

Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

I have Windows XP on a Sony Vaio, model VGN-FS640. When I click on Add or Remove Programs, I get this message: Windows cannot find 'C:WINDOWS\system 32\rundll32.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. Then it discusses searching for a file. Until recently I have been able to use Add or Remove. The only thing I have done recently that I can think of is use Spyware Detector and Reg. Cure. At the same time, another problem developed, which I'm including, as maybe they are related: I have Belarc Advisor on my computer. I was going to open it, but I got this message under Sharing Session title, "The destination address is not valid. Check the address and try again." Error 0x80ee0012
I would appreciate any help that you can give me. I am older and learned on a Mac, so it seems that if it can go wrong on a PC, it does for me! I need all the help I can get. Thank you.

Hi,

I have a major problem, please can you help?!!

When I open my web browser I get the message "insecure internet activity threat of virus attack" rather than my home page. It tries to direct me to download some security software. I'm also getting popups for win32.netsky.q and Dr. Watson debugger.

I guess this is a trojan and i that I picked it up when I clicked a link in "JusinTV". All the advice seems to be to download some spyware removal tools BUT, if i try to type in a website or open any web page the link immeditaely closes so it gives me no time to find let alone click the download link.

I couldn't even post this thread from my own PC because of this problem!

Please, please can you help???

Thanks

The log looks fairly clean to me (but not an expert). Two questions:

When it refuses to open, do you get any kind of pop-up box about restrictions?

Go to C:\Windows\System32. Look for the file appwiz.cpl. Does it exist, and what happens if you double-click on it?

I have a Compaq laptop running Windows Vista Basic that can only open in safe mode. Trying to boot normaly flashes the windows crash screen for a second as soon as the Windows login screen comes up, and the computer reboots...over and over. I have tried Last Known Good Configuration, Restore point but still does the same thing upon rebooting normally. I can open to the safe mode and have tried scanning with Malware Bytes Anti Malware and Superantispyware (and running Rkill to stop processes that might be stopping them from scanning properly). Rkill only pulls up the regular desktop file running and both Malwarebytes and Superantispyware find multiple malware/registry key malware files. When I tell the programs (after running each individually after a clean reboot to safe mode) to delete the files, it restarts to remove the files to normal boot and again crashes at the windows login screen. Is there anything elase I can try? I was under the assumption that if my malware scans found items, then they also would be able to remove the files in safe mode.I am out of things to try. I tried going into the registry to delete some of the files the scans found, but they are back once the computer is restarted to safe mode and the scan is run again. The scans also do not give me the name of the virus(s) affecting the computer. It pulls up 19 registry items and 5 Browser Hijacker Deskbar items.Any help is appreciated.

After adding various .dll from an earlier Win2K installation (trying to correct an unrelated problem) to C:\WinNT\system32, discovered that Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel won't open. Rest of Control Panel works.

This tinkering cased another alteration: right mouse click on Start|Explore
(and Explore All Users) no longer shows all drives (and their directories & sub-folders) on one screen. Now only one drive (with directories & sub-folders) is shown at a time.

Your suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi! Newbie here. I have LOTS of problems with my PC, but will start with the ones possibly related that are driving me crazier than others.
1) I cannot open Internet Options from the Control Panel or Tools. Get a bref flash, then nothing. Am sure my cookies and TIFs really need to be emptied.
2) I believe there are two versions of IE on the PC: 6 and 7, even though 7 is the only one that shows in Control Panel. Wanted to remove it to see if 6 is still there (sometimes it appears to be), but cannot remove from Control Panel.
3) When I start at my homepage, all looks well. After surfing to another page or two, pics disappear and it seems like all the (?) HTML goes away ... I just have one long screen of black text on white with no pics, ads, or animation. I have to logout, login and try again.
4) I know that I probably need to do a restall of XP Pro but a hired tech STOLE my retail XP PRO and left an OEM disc in its place. I just noticed this and it's been several months. I tried to use it to install or even repair and got nada.
ANY ideas or suggestions will be MOST APPRECIATED!!!

Hello,

My laptop running Vista is infected with Open Cloud AV. I have tried rkill and Malwarebytes, which removed the Vista Antivirus from the same computer last May. This time, the first time I used rkill, under "processes terminated," it just listed "xe." Every time I try to run it again, it lists no processes terminated. I can start a Malwarebytes scan but it disappears after a few seconds. When I try to run it again, I get the message "Windows cannot access the specified device...you do not have permission etc." I checked for TDSSkiller and it found 1 hidden file and 1 forged file that were suspicious objects with medium risk. They only offered the Skip, not Cure, option, and then said No Threats Found.

I have the DDS.txt log but could not get a GMER log--I got to the point of unchecking the appropriate items and clicking Scan. It started to scan and it too disappeared after a few seconds.

Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Good morning,

I'm having a problem, the newest windows update has caused one of my programs to not work. It is a CAD/CAM software called UCANCAM. The program will open and seems to work great until you attempt to save, open, import, ect. I called the manufacture of our machine that supplied the program, he said to uninstall the program and reinstall. Problem is when trying to uninstall a error message pops up saying "Can't open log file" not sure what to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cody

Answer:Unable to remove program (can't open log file)

Sounds like you will have to contact the manufacture of the computer once again and tell them that your having issues uninstalling the program, perhaps they have instructions for a manual removal, then you may need there help to re-install the program. I assume you have the software where you can re-install it correct? If you do not have the software, you need to get that first before you go and uninstall anything.

Somehow got "anti-malware 2009" AND "malware defense" today, and, I fear there may be others lurking. However those are the two of which I am sure. I immediately realized what was happening of course, and didn't let the malware remove my Malwarebytes.

However, everything froze, and upon restart neither Malwarebytes nor my AV Security Suite (it's McAfee) will open or run. Neither run at star-tup now or show up in my tray, either. Initially, after this first restart, there was a message from windows security (I run XP pro) saying I was unprotected--obviously-- but also stating that I was missing crucial window updates. Turns out, it was Nvidia driver updates, which are hardly crucial I think, but because I couldn't open or run Malwarebytes, I restarted again. After yet another restart, I downloaded and re-installed McAfee... to no avail. It's in my files, it just will not run (or it doesn't appear, so I can't see if it's running). I did the same with Malwarebytes when I still couldn't open it...I downloaded a new setup file, which sits, 7 HOURS later, on my desktop, never running, not able to be opened when I click it.

Does anyone here have any ideas as to what else I can do? How to get Malwarebytes open, or how to remove the insidious files without it? I have run HiJack This, and can submit the log if it will allow someone to help me with this situation.

I appreciate any help you can provide, and meanwhile I'm backing ... Read more

It can take anywhere from 10-40 seconds to do this. My drive is 40% free.

IS there anything I can do about it?

My network connection user name shows "Secured". Right below is the same name followed by "- guest" and "Open". Is this a potential problem? Does this allow someone else access to my network connection? If so, how do I delete it?

Answer:Network connection, how can I remove the guest and open options?

This is in your Wi-Fi router. It has a guest portal option.
You will need to download the handbook for your specific model, log in and turn it off.
If it is also password protected with a different password, then it might be useful to leave on for friends. That way they can use the Internet but not access your local PC files. Read about it more in your manual.

Hi Geeks,
Since installing Win 10, I have a problem with removing the metadata in any photos in my Explorer folders.
Whenever I attempt to create a copy of a photo removing ALL possible properties, I get a pop-up informing me that:
"The action can't be completed because the file is open in COM Surrogate".
[See screenshot below]
Does anyone know what this is and why this is happening? It never happened in Win 7 or 8.1. It's very frustrating.
Oddly enough, it allows me to remove certain parts of the metadata but never allows me the option to remove ALL.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

As the title suggests...I created a password for the presentation I just completed and misunderstood its function. I thought I was creating a password to protect it from being edited by the people I need to send it to. In turn, I need to disable this password...it makes no sense to send someone a protected document and the password they need to open it. Can anyone here offer advice? I have not been able to identify a means to disable this "open document" password.

Additionally, can anyone help me determine how I can protect the document from being edited by the people I send it to?
