BAR IS MISSING ?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: file edit view tools help missing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please note that I have only been working with Windows 10 for two days now and I am still learning how to use it. However, Windows Vista has a feature that allows me to add the "File, Edit, View, Tools, Help" toolbar to my folders and I would like to add this same toolbar to my folders in Windows 10. Thus, I found a feature in Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization/File Explorer Options/View that says "always show menus" that caused it to temporarily appear in one folder but, it did not translate to all of my folders. So, how do I add this toolbar to my folders in Windows 10?

Answer:How to add the File, Edit, View, Tools, Help toolbar to my folders

Hello doctrout, and welcome to Ten Forums.

The "menu bar" has been replaced with the "ribbon" in File Explorer now.

If you like, you could install a free program like Classic Shell that can add a menu bar and/or toolbar back.

:exclamationI downloaded IE7 a few days ago. It's very different from IE6. I don't see any of the usual Menu tabs, such as file, edit, view, go etc. There is no help tab to see if I actually got the finished Ie7. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the beta. It wasn't supposed to be. I get to my favorites by clicking on the gold star located at the far left of the "toolbar" (all icons). My entire computer is running very slow both offline and on. I often lose my internet connection and can't load web pages with either IE7 or Mozilla Firefox. Would the 2 browsers create a conflict?  It didn't seem to before IE7.  I've been trying out Firefox for a couple of weeks now, but some sites require IE.Any suggestions?I run Zone Alarm, AVG and have AdAware also. Ok, let me explain what im trying to accomplish so you can get an idea what i mean.

Im organizing as can be inferred from my title, however Im stuck and almost finished! There is a category called "Tools" which contains 2 items. Neither of which I want there.

1) I want to get rid of the "Tools" category all together

2) I want to get rid of PC Settings (is this possible without losing the ability to use it via the metro/charms menu?)

3) I want to move chromium from there to its own folder, which it resides in via programdata/xxxxxxx/startmenu/chromium/chromium.shortcut, yet for some reason it displays in a "Tools" category.

As im sure most of you are aware you can ultimately determine your category by creating a folder with the category name you choose - place the shortcuts you want within - and POOF! Works PERFECT for ALL except these two

Anyone got anything for me?

Answer:Category view - Windows 8.1 start screen - Edit Tools?

scratch the chromium portion. I created the "category" (folder) and moved the shortcut and it ended up appearing there however the icon became a blank page (still functioned though).

That being said, i fielded a shortcut from elsewhere and placed it within and now it shows up fine. I checked and it appears to be the same proper 64 bit version. So i guess its all set. I cant believe the amount of work and rigging you hvae to go through to organize this mess of an OS!!

Anyhow, that leaves me with 1) what can I do about the name of the category that PC Settings falls under (ie: how do you rename it?) AND/OR how can I get rid of PC settings all-together without losing its functionality via the sidebar?

Hullo. I recently installed the custom theme patchs, and then a satisfactory theme with it, but I am having a problem with certain things looking different then they did when I bought the computer.

One of my problems (as my title states) is with the "File", "Edit" ect. buttons. When I highlight them with the mouse, or click on them, they are highlighted in a square, instead of the nice Vista/7 click. The same is with my Login after starting the computer.

Is this fixable?

Thanks. =)

Right-click on any file in Windows Explorer, and choose Edit With. Then you can browse and choose the program you wish to use to edit those files. An option will be added to the right-click menu. If you check the box that says "Always use this program ..." thereafter you can double-click those file types to open them in your chosen program.

I have a copy of an XP registry file, "system," in a Ghost backup. I would like to be able to view and possibly export a segment of that file to a reg file that could be imported into the current XP registry. Are there any tools that would allow even the viewing of registry files that are not the currently active ones?

The situation is that sometime over the past few months some change has occured that causes my system to refuse to recognize any locally installed printer. More accurately, it may or may not recognize the printer is there, but in no case will it actually print anything to it. The same printer, connected via USB, has its scanning function recognized and it scans happily.

Because I know I have a Ghost backup of the system in a state where it was recognizing the printer, I'd like to explore that file to see if I can find what's different and hence effect a repair. I do not want to restore the entire registry because there have been too many other, unrelated changes that I do not want to lose.

So I'd like a registry editor that isn't blind to everything except the currently active registry. Am I explaining this sensibly?

If such a tool exists and is referenced in other threads, I do apologize, but none of the searches I ran found anything. Maybe my search terms just aren't sensible.

Any help appreciated.

martin

Hello. I know how to bring up the I.E. 7 menu (File, Edit, View, etc) but I'm unable to. Actually, the situation is a little more complicated. I have three Windows users on my computer. (Windows XP.) One user can bring up the menu, the other two cannot. For the two users that can't, the MENU BAR option under TOOLS is checked even though the menu is not visible. And I cannot uncheck the menu bar option. It remains checked no matter how many times I try to check or uncheck it. Also, pressing the ALT key fails to bring up the menu temporarily.

I changed the two users without the I.E. menu from Standard Windows users to Administrator. This made no difference.

I am up to date with Windows Updates and anti-virus protection.

Hello Tech Gurus,

I hope one of you can help me. I have a problem with one of my computers at the office I am having trouble solving. I will outline the problem and what I have attempted so far. Hopefully one of you can point out a solution or something new to try.

Problem:

Computer at work cannot connect to google, yahoo, or bing search engines.

What I Have Done:

I have identified the problem as a corrupt (hacked) hosts file. If I enter the command C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts I can access the hosts file and open it in wordpad.

Note that without actually typing in the file path the hosts file cannot be accessed. It is not visible in windows explorer even after changing the folder options to ?show hidden files and folders? However, as mentioned by typing in the file path location, I can view the hosts file in wordpad.

Once open I can see almost 2 pages worth of entries of various google, yahoo and bing sites re-routing the browser to an unknown location explaining the problem. I know what the problem is, but I can?t fix it. I have tried deleting the hijacked entries in wordpad, but cannot re-save the file as I get an authorization error.

As the file is not visible in windows explorer I cannot remove the ?read-only? format. I have tried to overwrite the file, with a pure hosts file taken from a different computer; again I get an authorization failure. I have tried running the following codes to regain administrator rights

cacls C:\WIND... Read more

Answer:Malware attack; Cannot view, delete, edit hacked Hosts File

The only thing I can suggest is backing up important files on a disk or a flash drive, then doing a revert back to a restore point (if you have one). There could be another solution out there, but this is the only one I can think of. Sorry I can't be of more help.

If you go to:

Control Panel / and click on the Administrative Tools icon / on my machine, it takes you to the Administrative Tools folder in the File Manager, and shows the 18 Shortcuts

Is it like this for everybody?

All of the other things in the Control Panel open in a dialog box that is similar to the Control Panel style, with icons - nothing else there opens to the File Manager.

I thought maybe since I installed Classic Shell, it altered this. Everything seems functional, just not the Administrative Tools Control Panel shell.

If I go to Google Images, and take a look at "Win 8 Administrative Tools," it looks like it is supposed to appear as icons within a Control Panel shell.

Please see screenshots.

Any ideas?

Over the past week, there have been occasions when I'm in Firefox and when I type, no text appears. Instead the tabs at the top of the Firefox page (i.e. File, Edit, View, History) are selected. It seems that I need to close down all Firefox windows and reopen to get rid of the problem. But the fix is only temporary. It comes back a few days later. I'm not sure what the cause is. I've followed the steps on the "Read this first" section. Then I went through the steps in the Prep Guide. When I run rootrepeal, the scan seems to stop at c:/windows/winsxs/manifests. Of the files that seem to have been scanned in rootrepeal up until the manifests part, they all say "locked to the windows api!" in the status section. Since I can't get further, I'm attaching my dds and attach logs below. Would love to hear if I am doing something wrong. Thanks!!

To get that back right-click in the gray area around (above, below or beside) the address bar and select "Menu Bar" and it should return.

What do you mean that some junk intercepted your homepage? Are you being redirected to other sites?

You should be able to uninstall Incredimal through the Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs.

I just finished disinfecting my computer and correcting some resulting problems with the assistance of the "Am I Infected Forum" here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic438598.html/page__pid__2565682__st__15#entry2565682. At least 3 problems remain and the person helping me there suggested that someone here might know of a fix. The System Tools in start-all programs-accessories is empty and the Administrative Tools linked to from Control Panel is missing Computer Management.I found that I could get to Computer Management, though, typing compmgmt.msc in the run box.As far as I know it may be missing something else.It only shows Component Services,Data Sources, Event Viewer, Performance Monitor and Services. Also System Restore failed even after I tried it with about 5 different restore points. I say at least 3 because these are just the 3 I'm aware of, there may be others.

So I recently came across this article:

http://www.cracked.com/article_20058_5-clues-hidden-in-computer-files-that-can-get-you-busted.html

According to this article, not only does Microsoft Word give the option of tracking who made what changes to a document and when ... but it actually does so by default, and the only way to prevent the changes from being seen by anyone else is if you know the edit history is there and manually delete it! This has purportedly been used to reveal military fraud, catch political campaign criminals in their acts, and even prove that corporations had purposefully lied about their product to get more sales ... all because some people didn't know the MS Word records your changes by default and didn't think to manually delete the metadata.

I downloaded MS Word for the first time in forever just to try this out. I'm used to using Apache Open Office. But I wanted to see this edit history in action, so I went ahead and downloaded MS Word.

I've been created my own documents so I could see my own edit history, making sure to save often so I would have plenty of edit histories to view. But no matter how many times I make edits to the document and save it, whenever I use the Document Inspector, this is what I get:

I thought this was supposed to be a default setting!

Running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit:
For some reason I do not see the metadata for WAV files in Windows Explorer (Right Click file -> Properties -> Details) on my PC.  In addition, I can see the metadata for MP3 files in Windows Explorer, but I cannot edit any of the fields.
I used to be able to edit the metadata for MP3 files this way, but I seem to have lost the capability in recent weeks.
I am pretty certain the media files and their tag fields are not corrupted because this is not an issue on my wife's PC nor my laptop, both running the same Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  Something has changed on my PC that is causing these issues.  I
am running as an administrator on all computers, and the permissions for these files are set to full control.
I have used a 3rd party application (mp3tag) to rewrite the tags, but the issues still remain on my specific PC.

Answer:Libraries appear in one explorer view, but missing in folder view

Kindly stop starting multiple threads that discuss the same subject (libraries and user folders). You started multiple threads roughly three hours apart and it's confusing to people following them, myself included, because we wouldn't know which one to reply to and which one to ignore, plus it's in total disregard to cross-posting etiquette. The first one located here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/614766/libraries-issue/#entry4005914 already started receiving relevant replies and people are more likely to follow it, so I recommend you stick to that thread and await responses therein. When you open up a folder full of images and select Details view, Windows 7 displays a lot of information down at the bottom of the list about the image. All well and good, except that the ones that are shown by default are aimed mostly at photographers, and show things like camera model or lens setting. I want have a big folder full of, say, car images, and I'd like the bottom to display things like Year make and model, all of which you can select for display in the columns above. But there seems to be no way to do this. Ideas?

Answer:Edit displayed EXIF data in details view

Go into the details box, and right-click on what you want to change, comments, add a tag, add a name, Author, etc etc. You can add or edit anything you like in the edit boxes that pop up.

Outlook 2007 in the computer of one of the users in my company cannot view or edit a shared calendar. When I try to open the calendar it pops-up an alert that says "You do not have permission to view this calendar"

It doesn't seem to be a rights or permission issue, because when she access using her account information in another computer, she is able to view and edit the calendars. Some of the other computers have Outlook 2007 as well, so I'm wondering if there is a setting or an extra step that I need to configure in Outlook 2007 in order to access those calendars?

Answer:Outlook 2007 cannot view nor edit a shared calendar.

If A wants share his calender with B then :

1: A needs to grant access to B from his outlook calender. right click on calender- share- calender permissions. Assign the desired permissions

2. Then B needs to ' open' A's calendar in his computer by : right click on 'my calendar' - add calendar - from address book.

Ok.. let me see if I can explain this.

My network is setup like this: the DSL is connected to a router (routerA). This router (routerA) is connected to a WinXP system (system1) (pretty much running as a file server) and, through cat-5 cables, to two other routers (routerB and routerC). One of these routers (routerB) is connected to two iMacs and a WinXP system (system2). The other router (routerC) is connected to a WInXP system (system3) running as MediaCenterPC and, wirelessly, to a Win98 laptop (system4).

Ok, now I can view, access and edit any shared file on any of the WinXP systems. The problem comes in when you try to access or edit certain files (mainly RARs and PDFs) stored on the WinXP system3 from the Win98 laptop. From the laptop, I can see all of the shared files, but if I click on certain RAR or PDF files on system3, I get "cannot open" errors. And it doesn't happen on all of them. Some open just fine. And the ones that don't open, open just fine from any other system.

I hope that I have explained this ok. Any help will be great!

I have recently been unable to play/edit any of the video clips on my Dell Inspiron PC running Windows 10.  All was fine until December/January, when I created a DVD from a recent holiday. I have 2 apps which now will not play or allow me to edit the remaining video.
I get an error box saying I have "insufficient graphics capabilities" & "the video card and/or driver does not fully support DirectX 9" and I should upgrade/update one or both (Windows 10 has DirectX 12).
From other sources I believe there is an updated driver for my Intel HD 4400 graphics card but Intel say I should consult Dell before installing this update.
I would appreciate any advice anyone can give.

The error is because directx 9 and 10 drivers are needed.
Also DVD codecs are REMOVED from WIN10 they want you to pay $14 TO $100 for them all over again.  Windows media player is also removed as is windows movie maker.

Hello all. Apologies if this has been asked before, but I searched and didn't find anything. I also searched Google, but everyone who complained of the problem had a different setup from me. I also posted this to Notebook Forum if any of you are there. Anyway, my preferred view for the old My Computer, called just Computer in Win7, is the default "Tiles" view, per the attached file Tiles.jpg which I screenshot off my work computer. But it's not available on my brand new machine. There is no Tiles view available in the dropdown. It has been replaced with an "Extended Tiles" view which is completely useless. I think this may have happened when I tried and failed to install Win8 over 7, but who knows, I just noticed it the other day. The best I can do is a custom "Details" view, per the attached Details.jpg. It has basically the same information about the drives but lacks the other hardware. I know this is not a big problem, but I would like to fix it anyway. All the posters in other forums where this issue arises installed some kind of aftermarket software which modified their folder views. I did install one called Folder Options X which disables full line selection within folders, but I have this installed on both computers so that can't be the culprit. I do not want to reset all my folder views unless absolutely necessary. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. TIA.

Answer:Tiles view missing from (My) Computer view?

Hello PDSF,

It sounds like something may have gone wrong using the disable full row select if that is the only thing you did that affected folder views.

Usually, it's required to reset folder views back to default to have "Tiles" instead of "Extended Tiles".

Hello world. I have an important problem. I can't open, use or even preview files that the name of those files are colored in green. (like this)First, I would serve a chronology:- Before I reformatted my computer to windows Vista Starter SP1, I am using Windows XP Pro SP3.- Back when my Operating System is Windows XP Pro SP3, my hard drive is partitioned into two (C:/ and D:/).- I put some files (pictures, documents, apps) on one of the drives (D:/).- I tweaked the folder of the files' properties(security tab) and applied some changes in its security/sharing etc. It made a process like "applying the setting" which after that, - The name of the files and folders/subfolders turned into green!(like this)- I did this because there are multiple users on my computer(cousins) and I don't want them to mess up with my files.- I didn't see anything wrong in doing that I supposed, so I just left those files to stay that way (like this) ---- this part is the problem part ----- I finally decided to upgrade to Windows Vista Starter SP1 operating system. I installed it in the C:/ partition of my hard drive.- The files in the other partition (D:/) stayed there untouched.- I tried to insert a picture in a document, that "picture" would be a file that I am talking about a while ago, the file in drive (D:/) which its name is like this- Unfortunately, it said something like: "WORD CAN'T OPEN FILE: FILE PERMISSIONS NOT ALLOWED"- I was astonished! Hi,
Can anyone out there write me a batch file or exe file which will also change permissions in the Windows registry?

What I am trying to do is to block social networking sites - Facebook, Twitter etc.
I normally do this by editing the windows hosts file by looping back all known sites to the local machine.
I then change the permissions to read for all users including admins.
Next I change the file to read only & hide it.
I would like this batch/exe to be easy to change as other social networking sites etc appear.
I would also like this batch/exe to work across Windows platforms XP Vista & 7
If there was a problem with the location of Windows then assume the operating system is installed on C:
Can this be done? or am I asking the impossible. (or is there an easier way of doing this)

Thanks for any help

I am having a problem with mounting an NRG flie on Daemon tools lite. I normally use ISO files but the program CD I have is a NRG file. Is there anyway to mount this image on daemonn tools lite or convert it into an ISO file. Also is there an alternative free program I can use to mount this image n a virtual drive?

Thanks!

Scott

Hello all. Seems like I have managed to screw up the default "Administrative Events" in the Custom Views section of the Event Viewer. I filtered it for warnings, etc., intending to save as a new definition, but in fact managed to apply the filter to the default definition itself. Doh! Now, I can't unfilter or delete it - the options are greyed out in the editor. Anyone know how to reset that item to default?

Using build 1703. Must be a bug that permitted me to edit that view in the first place?

Can you take a screen shot of the greyed out thing you're talking about?
