I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, i have a problem where windows lags whenever i open a newly installed or updated program/applications that are on another drive than my OS. This mostly happens when i download and install games through Steam(Cuz i do that very often), but it also happen to League of legends after update and other newly installed programs so i doubt it is steam. When i say lag in this situation i mean that the mouse, sound and windows in general becomes lagy.

I have 3 drives, Samsung 950 pro NVMe SSD for my os, samsung 850 evo SSD and WD black 3TB HDD.

I have checked the usage on the cpu and disk while it happens cpu is low and the disk is hige(on the HDD, but not os disk) and i have also checked the S.M.A.R.T status on all the drives and they have 0 errors/faults.

Anyone that have had this problem or have a idea what i could do?

I woke up, and, as has been the case a few times in the last month or so, my computer had some strange spyware stuff. I quickly googled the fix for it, and began to scan with MBAM, however, instead of finishing, and letting me cleanup the problem, it closed, and restarted my computer.

On restart it had disabled taskmanager and registry editing, as well as blocking any programs I was trying to run to fix it (AVG/MBAM). Before fixing that I restarted in safemode and did a scan with AVG. It found several problems and removed them.

On entering standard windows again, the same problems persisted. I managed to restore access to my registry and task manager, but that's it so far.

I've been trying to diagnose and fix my problems for the last 3 hours or so, but everytime i've tried a fix, it hasn't worked.

Running MBAM works up until I hit scan. It looks like it's about to start, then closes, and whenever I try to open it again I get the error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may no have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Reinstalling MBAM "fixes" that error, but it just repeats if I try to scan again.

-I read that someone had the same problem, and tried renaming the mbam.exe to winlogon.exe, but this didn't fix my problem.

I cannot be entirely sure, but it seems like I have no access to the internet on that computer (I am using my laptop). AVG will still run, sort of, but it will not update, ... Read more

If you cannot get DDS to work, please try this instead. Please download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.Note: You will need to run this tool while connected to the Internet so it can download HijackThis if it is not located on your system. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding Rist attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program. If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator.Click Continue after reading the disclaimer screen.Leave the drop down box set to default: "List/folders created or modified in the last 1 month (30 days). When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.Save the log file to your desktop and copy/paste the contents into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here.Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run.If RSIT did not work, then reply back here.

So I have been having issues with all my external screens fliscker and generally freaking out anytime i open an application that utilizes the nvidia GPU (K200M in my case), such as Photoshop.  While freaking out the windows, the title bars also get knocked out of whack, for example having transparency just fail for the minimize/maximize/close buttons disappearing to show what is under the window. I have the laptop docked with screen closed and 2 U2212HM connected through the displayport connectors and a third U2212HM connected via VGA.  I dont observe the issues normally on the laptop without the externals hooked up.  I have tried installing the NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver  version 9.18.13.3302 / 8.15.10.2725  which supposedly"Version <9.18.13.3302 / 8.15.10.2725> (Fix) Fixed an issue where the screen of some external monitors might flicker when launching applications."but there is no improvement.  Updating ti the latest Nvidia drivers doesnt help either.

I don't really know what happened or how to fix things, so I would really appreciate your help!

I downloaded a .exe file that I 75% trust with uTorrent while I was away from the computer. Upon returning, I saw a message that Panda antivirus security had blocked some form of traffic, but I can't recall the exact message.

When I tried to open the finished .exe torrent, the computer slowed down and uTorrent wasn't responding so I pressed ctrl+alt+delete to open the menu for the task manager.

When the blue task manager screen did not come up, I can't remember if I tried to open the .exe file again or if I opened Firefox via the quicklaunch shortcut on the bottom left taskbar.

At this point, I believe Mozilla firefox would not open, and an error messege came up saying "firefox is an invalid torrent file." All three program icons in the quicklaunch section had the uTorrent icon. I tried one of them, Yahoo IM, and received the same error.

Since I thought yahoo and firefox were trying to open via uTorrent, I changed firefox's opener program back to firefox by right clicking and selecting "open with."

After this, firefox would open properly, but now every program that had uTorrent's icon then had firefox's icon. Clicking yahoo IM's quicklaunch button caused yahoo IM to try to use firefox as the opener.

I have NO IDEA what is going on and this has never happened before. I have uninstalled the IM and tried to reinstall, but the .exe file provided... Read more

Hi. a while ago I used msconfig to remove some programs that automatically on startup but now I have noticed that close to all of my services and startup programs have stopped loading on startup even though they are all checked in the msconfig window. I have tried rebooting in diagnostic startup but I haven't been able to fix it. I used the admin tools to set some services to run automatically but it doesn't help Steam, Norton, and my other programs to run and many services revert to manual startup. I also cannot run any programs, the only ones that seem to work are norton scan and firefox. Wizards and the system restore tool won't open, I don't know what to do

Answer:Startup programs not running, programs not opening

Try and use Start up CPL to add the files back to start up

To use start-up CPL

Click Start
>Control panel
>>Double click on 'Start up'

When that is open go through the tabs and add the programs you want to load on start up

Hi, I've installed Matlab in my computer 3 times and each time I have an error opening it. "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004). Click OK to terminate the application."

I am unable to open this file. I have tried running it as administrator, setting compatibility to Windows XP and scanning my computer using MacAfee antivirus but it's still not working. And everytime after I close, Windows automatically reinstalls Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. I'm not sure whether this is related to the application error issue. There are some applications like numgo in my xp which once I click the shortcut icon in the desktop, it automatically comes to the system tray. Then after closing it(the numgo interface) without signing out, if I click the desktop shortcut icon, it doesn't open the numgo interface. I have to go to system tray and click there to make it open.

Is there any way so that after closing without signing out, when again I click the desktop icon, it should open the nymgo window so that I don't need to go to system tray to make it open.

Answer:application opening issue in xp

Its probably a setting in nymgo, go into settings and check for something like "put in system tray"

Recently all my programs open in the minimised form, that is they don't fill the screen - they always used to. I have tried all the usual things like expanding them manually, closing them whilst holding down the control key, all to no avail. It's not a vital thing but is very annoying, can anyone help please? The programmes are all Microsoft office and thing which come with Vista HPRegardsJames

Answer:application opening in minimised

Are you launching them from a shortcut? If so, right click on the shortcut and choose properties - there should be an option there to run in full window (as well as normal and minimised). That is the case with XP at least - worth checking for something similar in Vista.

I need a product that can open most kinds of files, I already have Adobe & Acrobat but I still get files I can't open to view- I tried the Search thing but it's a little confusing. I have windows xp and internet explorer, if it makes any difference. Thanks

Answer:Need application for opening most file types

Hi, We would need to know the file extension .xxx in order to help you. The name of the program the files are supposed to work with would also be enough. If these files are something you downloaded, they most often are .exe or self executing program installs. A double click will usually start the install. Some downloaded from the Internet programs come in .zip format, compressed, and you need a program like WinZip or PKUnzip to "open" them or extract the files to a folder. You may or may not then have to click the .exe file in that folder...
If they are pictures or email attachments, files you were sent- you need to be careful they are what they seem to be, as viruses are easy to get by clicking attachments to emails or by downloading the wrong things. If you list the file extension and/or tell us what the file is we can help a lot more. You should have "Show all files" enabled under View>Folder Options in Windows Explorer, and also the box unchecked for "Hide file extensions for known file types" to see the extensions and all files.
Adobe Acrobat Reader is a .pdf or personal document viewer and more, the free version is really all you basically need for dealing with things like online forms, tax forms specifically- and it comes with most pre-loaded systems.
There are built in programs (in Windows) to view text, pics, graphics, for Excel spreadsheets there are viewers you can download, same for Word docs, and so on.

Answer:Error Pop Up Each Time Opening A Application

Hello ah_wei and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It appears that there are multiple anti-virus applications running on this computer (Kapersky and AVG). Running more than 1 anti-virus application at the same time can cause file access and resource issues and if there is an infection the multiple programs can actually block each other from dealing with the infected file(s). I highly recommend that you choose which application you want to keep and uninstall the other one(s) to prevent these problems. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it... Read more

Answer:0xc0000135 error opening application

I believe that error is related to Microsoft .Net Framework which you may need to install or re-install if it's already present. There are several versions which different applications need, so you may have to investigate which version you require for whatever applications you have which need them.Alternatively, just install all versions which work on XP:http://www.microsoft.com/net/downlo...There is also the latest version here:http://www.microsoft.com/download/e...Please note, latest version requires Windows XP with SP3 if installing on XP, and earlier versions may also have minimum service pack requirements.

Win explorer suddenly does not work properly. When opening an application, the folder the application is in, is refreshing. But only for some applications, not all of them. It can be noticed if the folder has a lot of files, it jumps to the top of the folder after opening the application. How can this be fixed? The folder should not refresh after opening an application.

Hello to everyone,

I know, that this is a forum for Windows 7. However my problem is on Windows Server 2008R2 Ent, but with normal desktop application mspaint.

There is a problem, that sometimes it is not possible to open mspaint untill restart of the system. When I run mspaint, there is no error message (neither in event viewer) and no application windows. In task manager I can see that process is running but thats all. If I will provide you with memory dump of mspaint, is there someone who can help?

Thank you,

Dear all,
I am having trouble with Windows 7, as I have migrated my computers from Windows 2000, and I am not able to run one application.
The problem I have is that I used to launch a process from a Unix machine through telnet into my machine.
For an unknown reason, I am able to start the process through telnet, but the process launches a GUI application which doesn't show up. If I run the process locally in the machine, the process starts and opens the GUI without any problem, but when I request the service to start by remote doesn't work.
The application is based on VEE Agilent SW, and I have read some forums about PsExec but still do not manage to make it work.
Should I modify some of the configurations of Windows 7 to unblock this feature?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Javier

Hi I'm new as a member here, so hello everyone.

I have a strange problem with my audio (or at least it makes itself known through the audio)  Upfront I usually keep my computer super clean and hardly ever surf unknown sites.  In addition I scan my computer regularly.  With that said, I have noticed that when I play audio (music) that the computer starts to static when I put a strain on the computer; meaning when I launch something new or a new search or even open programs.  The weird thing is that I never noticed it before but my computer habits have changed and I know leave my computer on at night.  If I restart my computer it almost never happens but when a day goes by without a restart it starts.

I read some of your posts and most of the time you good fellows ask for one of these so here it is.

One of my drives are used as a cloned server drive for family members to use.

Answer:Audio static when opening or using any other application

If you have front and rear headphone jacks, try the other one and see if it still does it. My guess is that you have some kind of crosstalk, and when the hard drive is being accessed you hear noise on the headphones. If it's speakers, try moving them further from the PC (if you have them right near it I mean). You might end up having to buy a pci sound card to avoid this (I always have when I had these problems), but it's too soon to jump to that conclusion yet, but, if I was a betting man...

Whilst attempting to find an application to open a .php file, I inadvertently "married" the file to the DVD writer. I cannot now get them to divorce! How can I remove the "always use this ..." function to release my original file...which has got some irreplaceable material on...I know, I know, backup, backup, backup!!! Can anyone get beyond laughing hysterically to help me? Thanks...

Answer:opening files with wrong application

Don't worry, this happens a lot and it is actually quite easy to fix.  All you have to do is right-click on your PHP icon and click on Properties.  On the window that opens (in the General section), there should be a little portion that says Opens with: and the name of your DVD program.  To the right of that is a button that says Change.  Click on that button and when the new window opens, select Notepad and click on OK.  Click on OK again to close the Properties window. That should correct your problem without losing any data (hopefully).  In the future, if you want to open a file with a different program, be sure to uncheck the box that says Always use the selected program.

Hi
Don't know where to put this so i just dropped it here, anyway the problem is whenever i open anything the window appears in the left upper corner,so is this normal or is it a problem...shouldn't all windows be in the center when opened ?
thanks.

Answer:Application windows not opening in the center ?

Many will remember size and position when closed. They will open there next time. Some just allow Windows to open them however Windows wants. There's a free program WinSize2 that gives you more control.

Hi there

Is there any way I can force Windows XP to open files in one single instance of an application instead of opening multiple instances?

In other words: If you have an application open (e.g. Windows Media Player), and you doubleclick on a file opening in this application (e.g. a video file), the file will open in the same instance of the application (i.e the same window of Windows Media Player). Some other programs however (e.g. the VLC video player or the Textpad text editor), will open a new program instance (i.e. a new VLC or Textpad window). This leads to cluttering of open programs, each stacked with a single file - not very helpful. Can you force Windows XP to open all files in the same instance? Or is this a problem that can be addressed only within the respective applications?

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Opening Files in One Application Instance

This would be through the program itself. If I understand right, you want to open the program once and have multiple files open. For example when you open MS Word, you can have multiple files open in one session of Word. Is that what your looking for? If so, that is up to the program. Internet explorer is heading that way with version 7. Instead of having multiple instances of IE running to have multiple pages open, they implemented tabbed browsing. This allows you to have IE open once and have multiple "tabs" open, allowing for multiple pages open at a time and not have to launch IE over and over to do so. As far as the programs in question, your kind of out of luck.

When I try and play Batman Arkham Origins or Bioshock Infinite, it gives me an application error 0x000007b. I've reinstalled both, reinstalled the visual c++ components. I've done a sfc /scannow and I have the sfcdetails.txt here.
I really wish to play these games, as I was able to play them both for a bit then they stopped working. The problem could be with more than just those two things, I just haven't played everything since it's started.

Answer:0x7b application opening error with certain games

Hi, Welcome to 8 forums.

I will suggest to run SFC /SCANNOW atleast 3 more times. So that it can find the exact issue. Once it finds the issues (mostly it will give you an error that it was not able to fix some .dll file). Once you run that you can simply copy that file from your Win 8 disc to system folder. problem solved.

Hello.

I have serious problem. Because startup application opening very slowly in Windows 10. It was really fast when im using Windows 7. My english not good so let me explain with sample.

When i was using Windows 7: Desktop screen = Startup applications opening begins.

in Windows 10: Desktop screen + (5 or 7 second) = Startup application finally opening begins.

Also one software called "Logitech Gaming Software" always making connecting sound. (I mean, when you plug something on usb.) I heard every time i open windows and i hate that.

- My all drivers all update.
- I was using same applications on Windows 7 too. There is no different. (If the applications have windows 10 version i already changed it.)

So anyone know the solutions? Or know why slowly?

Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 Startup Application Opening Very Slow

Application startup is slow on some machines that have been upgraded to Windows 10.
Compatibility mode does not help either.

A temporary workaround we have found is to "Click on the taskbar" (Anywhere on it actually, as soon as you start the application) This action speeds up the load tremendously.

Still looking for fix.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,

I use Tunngle to game online through LAN, and it uses a service named TnglCtrl.exe which uses 10mb of memory idle. Even though when I am not using Tunngle, it starts. If i close the service, Tunngle will refuse to run. So I would like to know if it is possible to do the following:

In Services, I set TnglCtrl.exe to Manual startup. When I would like to start the Tunngle application, TnglCtrl.exe would start automatically. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Slasher

Answer:Starting a specific service when opening an application

Just have it on all the time...10 MBs of RAM is absolutely NOTHING.
You have way to much RAM to be concerned over this.

Whenever you boot your system, applications openned for the first time take more time to open but after they've been openned at least one time, the process speeds up. Can you tell me if there's a way for Windows to not initialize this speed everytime the computer is rebooted, so that it can stay always at maximum speed? It might have something to do with cache or something.

Thank you

This issue started a few days ago and I tried getting help on a few other community forums before attempting here with no luck so far. First of all the most important aspect is the name of the application as it's the ONLY one giving me problems. League of Legends. No matter if I start it via it's launchers or it's game client executable or even it's own installer it will make both explorer.exe and the app's executable hung IRP or so I would believe turning the processes themselves zombie mode (can't kill or taskkill so on and so forth). Now I haven't really encountered this problem before so I am new to this one (I'm quite used to handling a PC and it's errors and what not but this one never occured to me so yeah it's a bit tricky to handle especially when it happens only with one of the many present applications within my PC). I don't know where to begin with in terms of specific info such as threads used, PID, etc so I'll just hand it over as requested to avoid any sort of confusion or whatever. I'm really hoping there's someone able to assist with such a problem as I'm starting to run out of patience and considering a format.
Also just so that it's clear enough. The issue as I presented has a crucial meaning: I can NOT restart/shutdown from within Windows 7 Ultimate itself once the issue is active. I can still open new processes that will work properly with the exception of poor performance for obvious reasons.

Hi

Having uninstalled Office 2007 on my Windows Vista 64-bit machine, I have been trying without success to install Office 2010 Pro 32-bit. Installation presents no difficulty but upon opening any of the programs within the suite, the installation screen appears to setup again followed by Office wanting to configure itself. This is very frustrating when you want to open a program quickly and until these screens finish upon opening Outlook, it refuses to send or receive. This continues again and again after each program closure and restarting.

Interestingly by cancelling them out by clicking "x", they do cancel leaving the program ready to use - but this shouldn't be necessary.

I believe this is a registry problem associated with the previous installation of Office 2007. I have uninstalled Office 2010 many times now, used Microsoft Fixit to clear all the previous traces of Office 2010 after uninstalling (even tried using the version for Office 2007, but it refuses to work saying that it's not compatible with my operating system!) and tried to clear all traces of "Office" from the registry, rebooting each time and then trying to reinstall Office 2010.

The same problem ensues.

Again interestingly installation always remembers my settings and data files for Outlook - proving that there is still something in the system before installing as otherwise how does it rember these and of course the whereabouts in my system of the .pst files, which are not in... Read more

Hi, folks.

I've been running Windows XP Professional for a couple of years, and in the past few months, I've had problems with my system launching my e-mail application (sometimes several instances of it) for no reason.

I ran Ad Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy on the system, and found nothing that should have caused this behavior.

Eventually, since there were a few other problems (notably with IE), I archived my important files and put them on another machine and then reinstalled Windows XP Professional. I figured this would create a fresh starting point for the machine and eliminate the problems I had been having.

I installed Mozilla's Firefox and Thunderbird programs, having grown to like them more than IE and Outlook. However, now my system has periodically begun to launch 1-4 instances of Mozilla Thunderbird for no apparent reason. I have not yet reloaded the archived files onto the machine, so I can't imagine what could be causing this behavior.

It happens in various situations, but most often when opening Word documents. It has happened while working in Word, but also when on the desktop.

I've got the computer connected to a Netgear router, with a cable modem internet connection.

This happened with Outlook Express too, before I reinstalled Windows XP Professional.

I had hoped the reinstall would handle the issue.

Can anyone help?

There are similar posts on this issue, but I see none with a satisfactory fix.
I have a brand new Dell Laptop, running Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1.
If I copy anything to the Clipboard, it works fine *IF* where I want to paste it is already open.
However, If after I copy, I do ANYTHING in between, the clipboard is cleared out.
Examples:  I'm in an Email (MS Outlook, Office 10) and copy a string of text from the body of the email.
I then open a new email, and attempt to Paste it, the clipboard is empty.
However, if I open the New email First, then go to the existing email and do the copy,
It pastes in Fine if I just flip directly to the already open new email.
This behavior is not limited to Outlook, Office, or even any Microsoft products.
I could try the same sequence of events from Chrome browser to Evernote for example.  If Evernote is already open it works.
If I have to open Evernote after doing the copy, the Clipboard clears. Same is true for ANY 2 applications on the PC.
System File Checker finds no errors, and I didn't expect it to as the clipboard does work as long as everything is already open.
Thanks in Advance for your help.

Answer:Win 7 Clipboard clears contents when opening a new application or window

Hi,
As I known, some memory management softwares WILL clear the clipboard queue every time it engages. Check to be sure you do not have any kind of memory management or RAM MANAGER type of software loaded.
If so, remove it or disable the option to clear clipboard catch.

Every once in a while I use a third-party application called File Renamer Basic (Sherrod Computers) and I've never had any problems with it but tonight I opened it and I got a Windows popup that was trying to install and configure Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, which is already installed on my PC).

I followed the directions and I inserted my MS Office CD-ROM so it could locate a certain file. It said that the path could not be found and that I needed to find the installation package HomeStudentrWW.msi in a folder so that it could install the product Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. After all this I got an Error 1706 and it said to see SETUP.CHM for other solutions.

I did a thorough search online but everything I found regarding this issue involved only problems opening Microsoft Office applications, not any third-party programs. I tried everything I could think of (uninstalling/reinstalling/updating/registry edits/system restore, etc.) and nothing solved the problem. I did find that if I kept pressing "cancel" about 5 or 6 times eventually the program (File Renamer Basic) would open and everything would be fine, but obviously there is some kind of bug or conflict going on and I would like to fix it if possible.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Thanks

Paul

Dear all,
While i am opening Task scheduler or registry editor or CCleaner app in standard user account, UAC prompt appear and asking username and password of logged on standard user credential to access.
I Check UAC level of standard user as well as administrator but both are normal.

I check local security settings of UAC but all UAC security settings shows "not defined".

So kindly give help on this topic.

All of sudden Application and even print window is opening full Page thus I am not able to click even buttons like Accept, Next, Finish, Print etc which are overlapping the taskbar and even I am not able to reach below for cross arrows to pull the windows above. Though with Auto Hide taskbar, I am able to click these buttons but I am not liking this Auto Hide feature. Is there any other way out so that these windows could be permanently kept small size giving ample space both above and below these windows.

Answer:All of sudden Application and even print window is opening full Page

I'm guessing you've enabled tablet mode. My 2 year old manages to do it via some keyboard combination only he knows lol

Click on settings and it should be one of the options at the bottom.

I tryed to start my Windows Live Messenger (plus) and it came up with:

msnmsgr.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

The same happens when I try to start up PS CS3 Extended.

Help please?

Answer:Application Error, on 2 programs?

Are you using a Sony Vaio or some other Sony product (say a Sony MP3 player)?

If so, go to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel and remove the SonicStage Mastering
Studio Audio Filter. If that's not there, try uninstalling any other SonicStage branded
software.

After that, restart and try Messenger again.

Hello once again. If i unfortunately made a mistake by posting this topic into the incorrect forum, please move it and let me know. Thanks.

So here is this annoying problem: Whenever i go into Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, the list doesn't show anything. It just simply stays blank, it doesn't even notice me with the message "Please wait until the list is being populated...". What should i do to get rid of this problem, so i can uninstall some unuseful programs?

Answer:Add or Remove Programs Application

I always felt it took forever to load this page in XP but if it refuses to load the program list at all you could try the Revo uninstaller which you can get as a free download from BC here -

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/revo-uninstaller/

It is a very powerful uninstaller so if you wish to go beyond the defaults, read the 'Help' files first !  Alternatively, look and see in your 'All programs' list on the start panel if any of the programs you want to lose have an uninstaller built in with the application.

I'm trying to tweak my router's quality of service (QoS) configuration and I'd like to know what ports that certain applications use (source ports, destination ports, and destination ip addresses).

Do any programs like this exist? I'm just looking for something really simple that logs each connection. I don't need to know anything about the traffic itself.

For example, when I start playing Team Fortress 2 then I'd like to log which ports are being used so I can add them to my router, etc.

Answer:Are there any programs to log/ display connections from every application?

from the command prompt, run "netstat -n" however this wont tell you which app is which, just the open sessions, but will tell you source ip/port dest ip/port.

EDIT: If you add a "-o" it will add the process ID also, which can then be matched to a particular app in the task manager if you click "View, Select Colomns" and add the PID.

Is there a program that can effectively block or eliminate other programs auto-updaters (Java, Adobe, Etc)

The windows 7 firewall doesnt reliably do so

Any tips?

Answer:Application to disable All other programs updating?

Win7 firewall should be able to be configured to block access to the update components using a rule. It won't do it by default, as that isn't what the purpose of it is.

Instead of blocking, you might want to consider disabling the update components. I know that both Java and Adobe have the ability to auto-update and you can turn that off.

I was having a problem after starting my computer and logging in I would encounter a black screen and the cursor with no programs loading. After going into safe mode and restarting I got it to work and download Emsisoft. I did a scan, quarantined the files and everything seemed to be good. After a couple hours, I got a popup that said there was an application error (I think NVIDIA related). A couple hours after that, I tried to open a new tab in Chrome and it wouldn't work so I tried to open Firefox and got the same application error. Then I tried to open a few other programs and they all got the same error. I restarted my computer, got the black screen and cursor again, rebooted in safe mode, rebooted again and that's where I am now. Please let me know how I can fix this. Here's my FRST file:

Hi
Whenever I install a new application, I get an error window which comes up saying: 'Application error. Application was unable to start correctly (0x0000017). Click ok to close application'.

This seems to happen on free software I download and doesn't affect software updates I do e.g. free anti-viral updates. Does anyone know what fix I can make? I am using Windows 7 on a 2yr old laptop.
Thanks

Answer:Application error on installing programs

Try it in Safe Mode.

You might need SafeMSI for the Windows Installer service to run in Safe Mode. Run SafeMSI while in Safe Mode and try installing your programs again.

Hey guys, lately I have an annoying problem: some programs that I'm using they do start and run, but they didnt show.
I can only see them in the application bar but when I try to click on them nothing happen!
I already tried to run them as administrator and also set compatible with previous version in the properties of the files but nothing changed.
( I also tried to open the task manager windows and do something like maximize or pass to but not even this works)
Thanks in advance (ooooh♥ msn messenger emoticons)

Answer:Some programs start but don't show ( just in application bar)

Hello Ale, and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if they may just be offscreen using the tutorial below. If so, then you could just drag them back on-screen.

Hope this helps,

Whenever I try to open a program, it'll open and then close a second later, and a message will pop-up from Avira Anti-Virus saying 'Application could not be executed. The file 'whatever' is infected'.. The only programs that work are Firefox, Internet Explorer(but whenever i type in a URL it always comes up with an error message saying the website is infected) and Daemon Tools Lite. Because I can't open any programs, I was unable to run GMER and DDS. I apologise for this lack of information, but I would great appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Answer:No programs will open. Says the application was infected.

Hi,

Whenever I install any application or a program then I want that app or program to give me the option where I want to install it. Currently, they all are being automatically installed in C drive which I don't want.

Any Idea???

Answer:Install programs and application to other than C drive

When you install the programs select 'custom install'. That will let you put them on another partition/drive.

Hello,

Starting on August 1st I began getting Application Errors while running multiple programs. Here is one example of the application error I receive:

"mplayerc.exe - Application Error : The exception Integer division by zero.
(0xc0000094) occurred in the application at location 0x02255583."

Also, everytime I shutdown or restart my pc I get this specific application popup:

"SetPoint.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x10607128" referenced memory at "0x10607128". The memory could not be "read".

I've gone and checked what programs I've installed withing a few days prior to this problem and the only software I installed was Microsoft Office 2007 on July 30th and virtualdubmod on August 1st. I've since uninstalled virtualdubmod. Virtualdubmod was the first program that I received the application error in when trying to split a video. However, I've gotten tons of the applicatio errors, including while in internet explorer 7.

Here's what I've done and been able to rule out:

1) I've run system diagnostics to make sure my physical memory wasn't bad.
2) I ran Microsofts memory tester and let it go 6 times through the testing. There's no problem with my RAM.
3) I've ran spybot, ad-aware SE Plus, AVG antivirus, ccleaner (with default items checked), and Easy Cleaner.
4) I ran office 2007 diagnostic tool and there were no problems or conflicting programs found.
5) Error reporting has been disabled.

Update:

I found out that these error messages were due to office 2007 enterprise. I didn't have msvcr80.dll file in system32 folder and this had some type of effect on visual c++ and that was the basis of the error. Hopefully this will help someone in the future.

Hi, it's me again, yay....

I've been having some problems. Nothing really obvious to where I know something is infected, just enough to drive me insane! It started right before I replaced my video card. I replaced my video card thinking that I might be able to play my Sims2 games but, alas, that didn't happen either. I have already updated the drivers because I thought that might be the problem. When I load a webpage, there will be blank white spaces in the pages; just randomly, no pattern. Sometimes when I mouse over the white spaces the pictures or text will show up, sometimes not. This is also happening in my Photoshop and ACDSee programs also. Things won't be where they are supposed to be, etc.

I have looked all through the forums trying to see if anyone else has had this problem before but I couldn't find anything.

I've been getting the "this is not a valid win32 application" errors when I try to open programs, again no pattern. Sometimes when I reboot, the program will open, sometimes not. I've tried to copy and paste screen shots but Paint won't open!

I run TrendMicro Antivirus plus AntiSpyware version 16.10 and it hasn't found anything. I ran PandaScan and it found a bunch of cookies. I have Windows XP SP2 but my computer won't install the update for the netframework, it fails every time. My WindowsXP is legit so I don't know what the problem is there.

I ran the DSS but it couldn't download HiJackThis so I just let it do it's thing. Here'... Read more

thanks for your help.

Answer:what programs come in the Application & support Disc?

They vary with different releases and systems. But if you put the CD in it should come up with a selection menu of the programs on the disc. I would suspect if Nero came with the PC then it should be on the Applications & Support CD.

How to install os and all application programs at once using pendrive...I have seen this method in computer service center..this method will save more time..if u have any idea please share with me

Answer:How to install os and all application programs at once using pendrive

I have a method that works as long as the apps you want to install don't come on more than one disc.  By that I mean that if you get something like MS Office on a bunch of CDs, Windows gets confused when it's time to switch discs.  However if you want to limit this to apps that don't come on more than one disc, here's what I've done.  I create a folder on a USB flash drive and copy the install discs into it with a unique file name for each app.  That is I might have a file for WordPerfect, one for Nero, another for Firefox, etc.  Then I write a .BAT file with a CALL statement for each file.  I put ECHO statements between the CALL statements so whoever's watching it run will know where it is.  If that makes sense to you, there's no need to bother with the following example, but in case it's not crystal clear, here's the example.
On the flash drive I create a folder I'll call INSTALLS.  Now let's say I want to install Firefox, Nero, and Malwarebytes.  In the INSTALLS folder I'd have files Firefox.EXE, Nero_Install.EXE, and MBAM_setup.EXE.  Then I'd create a batch file with Notepad that looked something like this:
ECHO *** Installing Firefox ***
Call Firefox.EXE
ECHO *** Installing Nero ***
CALL NERO_Install.EXE
ECHO *** Installing Malwarebytes ***
CALL MBAM_setup.EXE
ECHO *** Installs complete ***
END
I'd put the batch file in the same INSTALLS folder and call it something like MYINSTAL.BAT.

I hope... Read more

I get a pop up before running any programs? It says run as on the title bar and in it you check what user you want to run it on and there is a box you check if you want your computer to be protected from unwanted things. It also says that by checking it that some programs may not work. It doesnt really effect anything but it is real annoying so I would like to get rid of it and need help in doing that. I am thinking that it is some option in a antivirus program or spyware remover program but I have several and after looking through i cannot find the option to take it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Question: Programs opening

I can't really find anything on the internet about this problem, so I came to ask here. I am using the Windows XP os.

A few minutes ago, I got the error message for "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. I've seen this before, and clicked OK and Windows toolbar disappeared, came back and the only thing different was that the My Documents folder I had open was closed. I reopened it and proceeded with what I was doing. Well, a few minutes later, every program on my computer started up. Literally, every program in C:\Program Files and things like volume control and other stuff like that opened all at once. It was almost 100 or so tabs trying to load everything. So that I didn't waste my time closing all those tabs or waiting for everything to open, I restarted my computer manually. It restarted as normal and everything is seemingly OK for now.

I don't know if the previous error message had anything to do with it or not, but I have never encountered everything opening at once, and I was wondering if this is something that has happened to someone else, and what the problem was when it happened.

Answer:Programs opening

First I would scan for potential spyware or virues that may have infected your computer. I would recommend using Malwarebytes for this.

I recently had a computer problem, where it was telling me i had no firewall, and wouldn't let me go on mozilla. I installed Super antispyware thinking it would work, it showed alot of viruses and trojans amongst other things . When i deleted all the intrusions, it asked to restart and when i did, i can't click on any of my icons or my system restore, everytime i click on them it brings up a open with, and when i go to the program and click on it it won't work. When i try to go to my control panel and try to click on any icons there it says application not found. Now i am completely lost in what this is or how to fix it. I am up for any help here.......

My computer (Toshiba Satellite M45-S355) has started opening up programs without me! All of a sudden, while working in one program, another just pops up as if I'd clicked it - but I didn't. I've run Norton's AV; SpySweepter; XOftSpySe; and Ad-Aware and it's still happening. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Recently, i have not been able to open any programs on my computer. Every time i click on a program, the mouse indicates it is loading, and then the loading circle goes away and nothing happens. This happens for every program. I have Norton installed in my computer, and it has never told me i have had any viruses or anything like that. Everything works fine in safe mode, which is actually what i am using right now to ask this. I have tried everything! I cannot open task manager, i tried recovering my computer from a past date but nothing happened, and restarted the computer numerous amount of times. Any solutions to this problem???

Not sure where to put this, so if theres a specific section please feel free to move it.

I just got my fiancee a new computer. Its a Windows 7 Ultimate. HP Pavillion. I've been using his computer to render out 3d scenes while I work on others using HomeGroup. On the first of this month, I had his computer render out a walkthrough for a scene that took most of the night to do. It was shut down after that and has been shut down every night when my fiancee goes to work and when he goes to bed in the morning after graveyard.

But since then, his computer has been opening the program - 3D Studio Max - on its own, randomly. It did it just recently too. He hasnt touched it because he was playing a video game. It will open it in a very small window and usually its off to the side, off the screen.

The computer is brand new, just got it a couple weeks ago. Anti-Virus is obviously up to date and wont expire for 2 years. Runs a scan any time the computer is idle, runs a full scan every week, so we know the computer is clean.

Never had a computer do this before, so we're a little baffled here. Any one know the cause and how to make it stop?

Question: Opening Programs

Normally when you open an application youhave to click twice to open it unless you use quick start. The other day I saw my buddies machine and he can open programs with a single click. How can I set my machine up to do the same on the desk top. I vaguely remember something written about it in an earlier PCA article but I don't have a copy as I recycle the old copies to the local hospital. J.B.

Answer:Opening Programs

Open my computer then select tools folder optionsand then tick the single click box.

Question: Opening programs

I get a message on different programs when I try to open.  "Internet Explorer has encounted a problemneeds to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.   Please tell Microsoft about this problem.  We havecreated an error report that you can send to help us improve Internet Explorer".And another message that says Symantec Services framework. Microsoft has encountered a problem andneeds to close.   Etc, etc,.It happens when I try to open my college practice page.HelpGeorgie

Answer:Opening programs

Does it happen ONLY when you go to that 'College practice' page? if so, something about that page won't work in that browser and is crashing that. Try using a different browser.

--- revised 2/18/16 ---
No further instances of lag (which can also stop macros from completing) since SUPERFETCH was disabled. However, some users report occasional lag despite this measure, and the underlying problem is extant. It appears to have nothing to do with hardware, keyboard drivers, SFC or services other than SF.
-0-0-

After extensive testing and discussion with MS support, a manager pinned down the problem. It's a bug. Most folks don't use keyboard shortcuts so they're not likely to encounter it.

The lag occurs when STORE or CALCULATOR are running as a background process. MS has allegedly submitted the issue to developers.

Click a program shortcut. The app launches immediately. Use shortcut keys and it takes four seconds.
e.g. - Click the Quicken shortcut: immediate launch. Use the keyboard keys specified for that SC <alt|ctrl|Q>: program opens in four seconds. Why?

This did not occur in Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, to my recollection. If shortcuts are deleted and reconfigured, the keyboard accelerators may work as they should - until a reboot or two. Then it's back to lagging.

START UP has relatively few programs. Both Program and Background settings for performance have been tested.

Hi all,
I am having problems with my win 2000 computer. It seems certain programs are opening but only for a split second then they close by themselves. The programs that I am having problems with are, DOS programs, Norton AV 2004 and Task Manager. Any Ideas as I am close to a format. I have ran a virus scan and cwshredder and spybot to no avail. I have included the log to hijack this as it seems to prove useful in these cases. Any help on this matter would be gratefully taken. Thanks in advance guys...

Answer:Programs opening, but...only for a second

I'm going to move you to the "Security" forum since this is definitely a "security" issue.

For now, print or save these instructions so you can view them in Safe Mode. Then restart in Safe Mode by pressing the f8 key promptly on startup and choosing from the startup menu.

Once in Safe Mode run HijackThis and check and "fix" the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Taskbar Service] taskbar.svc
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Backup Service] backup.svc

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] komwbyb.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Media Player Update] peofupy.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update Machine] komwbyb.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] komwbyb.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Media Player Update] peofupy.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Windows Media Player Update] peofupy.exe

>> It's possible Nav has found and deleted most or all of these files. But you will need to confirm. Before doing a file search for each of "exes" above, go to Folder Options > View and check "show hidden files". Also temporarily remove the check for "hide protected system files".

Search for and delete all instances of the above "exes".

After completing this, reboot and do a full online scan at House Call or Panda. After they clean up, post a new HijackThis Scanlog.

So my Dell laptop recently had a virus that McAfee said it deleted. The problem is that now none of my shortcuts work on my desktop or in my start menu. When I try to open any program one of two error messages will appear: either ?C:\Program Files (x86)\program name and company. Exe Application not found? or a box that says ?Choose the program you want to use to open this file:? and then it gives a list of recommended programs. At the bottom of the second error box it gives me a link to look for the program on the internet which is the only way I?m able to get on the internet. I can only get into my computer and control panel and access programs from there. Can anyone help fix my problem?

Answer:No Programs opening

Hi Liz, and welcome to TSF.

I wonder if McAfee cleaned your computer properly? Doesn't sound like it did but you could try this.

Press the Windows + R keys and in the run box type or copy/paste sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /scannow)

Click ok or press enter.

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

You may be prompted to insert your Windows CD/DVD, please do so.

If that doesn't work;
