I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Laptop speakers are not working but woring with headphones

Welcome to TSF,

Pretty basic questions from me to start with....Have you got the volume on your speakers turned up?

Are you sure your speakers are plugged into the right port? More details of your system would help, but until then, this may assist you.

Let us know,

kind regards,

I posted this before but I lost track of it.Someone said I should try enabling p2p networking or downloading the programs again.Well I tried that and still no joy. When I use Merc I get into the hubs but dont see any mesages nor can I see any method of downloadin files from other users. And the search engine dosent find anything. When I use DC++ I get into the hub and have the option to DL only the connection always times out no matter how the persons file is, thats jusr when ts connecting to a users list, I cant get near the files. Also I can see other peoples messages unlike Merc. But again the search engine finds squat. However Kazaa and LimeWire work fine.I've tried disabling Norton, lowering secuurity, enabling p2p connections, and just about anything the help file tells me to do (I changed them back dont worry). I didnt have this problem on my old computer I could just connect to a hub and take what I wanted .

Dear reader(s),

I have been customizing my Start Screen on Windows 8.1 with OlbyTile version 0.9.1.

It seems to be working fine. Although, when I upload a small tile image to the program (30x30), while one would anticipate that the image should appear in its smaller state in the Apps List, instead it looks like this:

Is anyone else experiencing a problem as such? As you can see, all the tiles I modified have the selected colours applied in OlbyTile, but the images all consist of Internet Explorer icons. A reinstall may be a reasonable course of action, that or the creators need to update OlbyTile. Still, if anyone has a solution for this problem, please let me know, thanks.

I had to also add SelectiveSuspendOn and set to 1 - not there for a clean install.

Greetings:
Just gave my old clock radio to charity and I just realized I need to get up in a few weeks for an important appointment. Is there anyway to use a laptop as an alarm clock? I use Vista Basic Home Edition. Does the software exist already with this type of OS or do I have to download some software (hopefully freeware BTW) if this is in fact possible. Any advice given is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Anyway to use a laptop as an alarm clock?

If you have a Calendar application installed it may offer an audio alarm, but using the alarm in a mobile phone is probably a simpler option.

Question: Laptop clock slow

My work laptop appears to have a problem keeping time. It's lost 50 minutes since I corrected it under a week ago. It's fine whilst I'm working but appears to be losing time when it's not switched on.Bearing in mind that it is now 4 years old is there a battery on the system board that may be failing?

Answer:Laptop clock slow

yes sounds like the system battery (small watch type battery)is starting to fail. Make a note of your BIOS settings and buy a new battery aprrox £1.99 (don't goto Pcworld £3.99)The battery is usually under a small flap on the base of the laptop. If you post make and model someone may be able to tell you exactly where it is.

I have a Lenovo T60 laptop, Windows XP sp3. Almost daily, the laptop clocks stops, and even sometime even backs up 5 minutes or so. I reset the time and it works for awhile. I havent been able to 'stare' at my laptop for hours to see if I can find out what may happen. I do have it connected to DSL most of the time, if that may be an issue.

I replaced the CMOS battery thinking that may be it. Still happens.
Any ideas what else it may be?

Answer:Laptop clock freezes

I don't know why the clock would stop unless the laptop was using all of it's resources on other tasks.

The time is probably backing up because the clock was running fast, you probably already figured that out thou.

I wish I could help you but I really don't have a clue.

I have an HP Pavilion ZE5000 notebook. The internal clock was slow and I was told by HP support that the CMOS battery needed replacement. HP provided me with a part number and I purchased an equivalent at Radio Shack (CR2032, 3.0V). I went to a local laptop repair shop and when the technician opened the top of the laptop he was able to find a battery underneath the keyboard. However, the size of the battery found in my laptop was about 1/3 of the size smaller than the one I purchased at Radio Shack. The tech replaced the battery in my laptop with a new one (from his shop) and reset my clock. However, when I tried it at home, the problem was not solved; my clock is still slow. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:HP laptop clock slow

Not sure, but maybe your bios/cmos has some bad data or errors and slows down your cmos clock... Many ways that can happen... so if you still havent found a solution... try flashing your bios to your chip... you can find many utilities on the net to do that... but check your motherboard manufacturer's website for the bios files or flashing software.

My wife's Vista Home Premium laptop is about 8 months old. I've been using it regularly over the past couple of weeks, and I notice that the clock in the System Tray is running very slow.I put it right about a week ago, and this morning I had to put it forward again by about 15 minutes. The laptop has been plugged into the mains (battery not fitted) for this entire time.Any idea why this could be happening, please?

Answer:Why is laptop clock slow?

More than likely the CMOS battery is on the way out. It's this which provides the clock energy even though you are connected to the mains. As the PC is only 8 months old you should take it up with the supplier.

I'm not sure if I should be asking this question in the Linux/Unix forum or on this forum. I have a Win7 laptop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed side by side. The clock on my Windows 7 partition is 5 hours ahead, but the clock on my Ubuntu partition is correct. Could my Ubuntu partition be causing this issue? If it were really a (CMOS) battery issue, wouldn't the clock on my Ubuntu partition also be off?

Hi,

Recently I noticed that the clock on my laptop was incorrect. I changed it within Windows several times but it kept going wrong again the next day.

I decided to check the clock in the BIOS set up menu and it turns out that the clock is running really fast. I'd say it takes about a second for the clock to advance by 1 minute. I figured this must be what is causing the clock in Windows to keep going wrong.

Is it likely that this problem is fixable, and if so how would I go about it?

Thanks in advance,
Caleb

how old is the laptop? most common cause of this issue is a flat cmos battery.

I find that the computer clock after left over night is different.

Is this due to cmos battery being low power ?

Usually it is set to time.windows.com option is set by default , but I can't see this on Windows 7 ? I usually set it on C.S.T..

How is it done ?

Check the BIOS and make sure that the time is set correctly in that.

Otherwise, your CMOS battery has died.

Greetings,

I am trying to compare between two video cards that are very similar, and I'd like some other opinions on which would be the better purchase. The differences are subtle but I am not experienced enough to know how large the effective payout difference will be.

-=-=-
The first card is here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102834

It is a SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100273L Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card. The Core Clock is at 650 MHz, the Memory Clock is at 1000 MHz. The final price would be $102.

-=-=-
The second card is here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161296

It is a HIS H485FM1GH Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card. The Core Clock is at 625 MHz, the Memory Clock is at 1986MHz. The final price would be $109.

-=-=-

My comparison so far is that Card 1 has 25 more MHz Core, but 986 Mhz less Memory Clock.
Warranties are the same.
I cannot truly tell, but it seems like the fan on card 1 is less robust than card 2. Can someone confirm this?
As far as my research has led me, the manufacturers themselves are not very different.
GRAM, SPU's, etc., are all identical between the cards. The main difference is in the two clock speeds.

The most major question is this: will a gain of 25MHz in the core clock be more beneficial to high-end gaming with a loss of 986 MHz in Memory Clock? My gut feeling i... Read more

I'm havving issues with a brand new Precision 3620 workstation.
The processor is an Intel 6700K  4Ghz base clock and 4.2Ghz turbo clock.
1) For any kind single threaded task it always runs at 4Ghz and never at 4.2Ghz.
How can I make it run at turbo speed (bios is set so it should) ?
2) For multithreading tasks using all cores (also using SIMD) the clock drops to 3.6Ghz
Using Intel power gadget I measure 60Watt power consumption and 54 degrees C.
(Test is Prime95 using blend mode test, so not max heat small FFT test)

I find this clock behavior quite unacceptable for a PC sold as workstation.
Using the Intel Extreme Tuning tool I can fix issue 2) by rasing the Processor Core IccMax from 92A to 110A.  This indicates wrong CPU setting in the bios, but these hidden settings are not visible to be changed.
Issue 1) I can not fix.
Is there any way to correct these issues ?

And old Windows problem has finally reared its ugly head on my system: "clock drift". My Windows clock keeps losing time. About 1 minute by the end of the day.

My CMOS clock is fine and is NOT losing time. I shut my PC off at night, automatically correcting the Windows clock when I restart the next morning. But my scheduled tasks later in the day will start late as the Windows clock slowly loses time.

I've edited the Registry to update "Internet Time" daily instead of weekly, but the time of day that the clock updates fluctuates, sometimes updating in the morning (which is unhelpful.)

"Clock drift" is a problem that has been around since Windows-3.0. As the number of background tasks grows, the software clock has a tendency to lose time.

Since my CMOS clock is just fine and and polling the Internet NTS (Network Time Server) sometimes fails (about 15% of the time), I was wondering if there was a simple way to automatically resync the Windows clock with my CMOS clock?

TIA.

Answer:Clock Drift driving me nuts. Any way to sync to CMOS clock?

Here's a link to a constantly updated list of NIST servers.

NIST Internet Time Service

If you search for your existing host in Regedit and substitute one from my list for the preset one you should also stumble upon a registry setting to increase the frequency of synchronisation.

It goes without saying you should back up your registry first, as a safety precaution

hello

i have a printer shared on a windows xp professional machine.... when i try to connect to it i get this message : server clock is not synchronized with the primary domain controller clock

i have googled and the results indicated that i should check the clocks to ensure they are all synchronized on all three computers involved: the computer the share is on, the computer attempting to connect to it and the domain controller.

however the problem remains.. can anyone assist?

Answer:server clock is not synchronized with the primary domain controller clock

I just did a fresh install of Windows XP Home (I know, it's for retro gaming) on a Compaq Presario 2236CL (2200 series) laptop. This is definitely an olide, with a Pentium M 350 on an 852GM/V chipset. Accoding to the laptop manual (and intel's specs on the 350 M), it should be running at a 400MHz FSB and the memory at 333 MHz (SDRAM). The installed memory is PC2700. Looking in HWiNFO 32, it says my FSB is actually running at 100MHz, and my memory at 133MHz! (Edit: DDR makes that 266MHz, but still, that's quite a lot lower than it should be?). The processor clock, 1.3GHz, actually seems normal. Why is the FSB, and consequently, my memory clock so low? I know it's a laptop and things will typically be slower, but even the manual indicates that the clocks should be higher!edit2: Hang on, HWiNFO seems to be reporting two memory clocks... One is for "Memory", which says 133MHz or 266MHZ DDR, then another section that says "Memory Modules", which has a clock of 167MHz or approximately 333MHz DDR. That's slightly confusing...

Hi have a big problem at the school that i work at:

all of a sudden, the network has fallen over.

what is happening is some of our clients will authenticate on one server, some clients will authenticate on the other server and some wont authenticate at all and produce an error message stating that

"There is a time difference between the client and server and is unable to log you on"

the odd thing is, the servers can not see each other. if we go to my network places on say our admin server, and try to connect to the pupil server it will say

"the servers clock is not syncoronizing with the primary domain controllers clock"

If we try to force a replication on the servers, we get the message

"there is a time difference between the client and server"

i think we have established that is a problem with the time settings on the server but dont know where to start

any ideas!!!

any help to websites or info will be very useful

Your help is appreciated

I have an Lenovo T440p with an Intel Core i5 4300M CPU. 8GB RAM, SSD running with Windows 7 (preinstalled). The only thing I did not like about this laptop was the screen, which I replaced (the whole LCD unit from another T440p - including the hinges) with a hd res version. It was rather easy; I did not have to remove the CPU/GPU.Recently I noticed is that the laptop has become really slow, especially running VMs. In task manager I can see that the CPU is many times at 100% on all cores. CPU-Z is reporting that the CPU is running at the lowest possible clock:    Core Speed: 798.85 MHz    Multiplier x8    Bus Speed 99.87 MHz    Core Voltage of 0.659 VI have set Windows already to "Maximum Performance" in the energy settings. I have also taken out the battery and am running with the power adapter. I also set the Lenovo Power Manager to maximum performance. Sadly, no improvement. What else can I try?

Answer:Lenovo T440p laptop with Intel CPU remains at lowest clock (Win7)

Ok, i could fix the issue after some trail and error. Turns out, if I take out the battery (even though plugged into the wall charger), the CPU will be throttled to minimum frequency. Sadly, there is no way to turn this off. So I have to leave the battery inside the laptop to get reasonable performance.

Hallo!I purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop 3 months ago.Approximately one month ago , the laptop clock started malfunctioning.Whenever I switch off the machine for a few hours e.g. during nighttime when I sleep, the timer shown is way ahead when I switch it on.For instance,if I switch my machine at 11 pm when I set computer clock to 11pm,when I wake up in the morning at 9 am,the computer clock shows 12.30 pm on the same day.The timer moves more ahead whenever I switch it off.Even after I re-set the clock, the same problem will manifest itself when I switch it off.Is this a software or hardware problem and how can I fix this?

Also I am curious concerning the best way to enable laptop battery have a longer life.Should one (option 1)always connect the laptop to the main power whenever one has access to the mains power even if the battery is full or should one (option2)fully charge the battery, disconnect the laptop from main power and use the battery charge and then wait for battery power to get finished so that one can then re-charge battey using main power?Which is the better option?

Please respond to my queries as soon as possible and I shall be infinitely grateful. Thanks in advance.

I have a HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 Graphics card
I am getting very poor gpu clock and memory speeds on both cores of my graphics card.

Both cores are running at
GPU Clock 507MHz
Memory 500MHz
at both 3D and 2D mode, using GPU-Z 0.3.0.0 and ati 8.12 catalyst control center
I know that in 3D mode it should be at 750MHZ and 900MHz and 2D at 507MHz and 500MHz(2gpu).
I have un-installed and re-installed the 8.12ccc
with no change at all, also using driver cleaner(in safe mode) when un-installing.
I get no arifacts as I use ExpertTool V4.0, enable fan contol for cooling while playing games.
Its just the card will not run at its full potentuall or how it should. Can you please help!!!

Answer:Issue with gpu clock and memory clock

That is strange..??

what happens when you set it to the default values..?? will the settings stick..??

not sure about ATI but i know the new nvidia cards have a power saving feature which drops the clocks when idle, kind of like Intel SpeedStep..

here's where my card clocks currently sit while its idle..
you can see they are far below stock clocks, maybe ATI have a similar feature in they're newer drivers..... have you checked to see if the clocks jump up when you stress the card.??

Answer:is there any program about CLOCK for window 7 (not pc clock )

Windows 7 clock must work properly.
You could add a dozen clocks and it won't solve the problem.

You are referring to the motherboard bios battery. That what allows the bios and Windows 7 to keep time.

The batteries cost less than $4.00.
You will have to reset the time in bios and Windows 7 after changing the battery.

Hello

is the BIOS clock and windows clock, i mean if i change say the windows clock, does the BIOS clock automatically get changed and likewise if i change the windows clock does the BIOS clock change

Answer:BIOS clock and windows clock

If you restart your computer the Windows clock is up-dated according to the BIOS clock,

the BIOS is never up-dated via Windows,

therefore if your CMOS is incorrect due to a BIOS battery fault Windows clock will also be incorrect,

this is in principle of course but who knows.

Hi,

This is my first post here, and my computer appears to be infected.

The Symptoms:
-- The desktop has "disappeared" and is replaced by a blank blue screen. The icons on the desktop are all gone.
-- There is no "bar" at the bottom: no start button, no task bar, no clock, no indications of open programs. i.e., the entire screen is blue.

-- However, the situation is different right after I start-up.
-- At first, I see all my programs. Sometimes I see the task bar and start button, clock, etc., sometimes not.
-- But something is wrong even then. The computer is slow. And I know desktop will not last long. Sometimes if I am quick I can double click on a desktop icon before the desktop disappears.
-- Sometimes there is a "transition" period. For a few seconds I'll see the desktop, then for a few it will go "all blue".
-- When it is "all blue", I can still get into programs. If I open up the task manager, I can click on the "New Task ..." button under the "Applications" tab.
-- I can still work with documents, but thinks are slow.
-- When I start in safe mode, I still have the problem of the missing desktop.

Other Signs:
-- When I can see the clock, it says "VIRUS ALERT!" followed by the time. My google searches inform me that this is a common symptom.

What I have done so far:
-- I've done the Norton "Quick Scan" -- found something the first time, and fixed i... Read more

Answer:touch mat not woring with touch only can use mouse

Hi @frostygirl13, and thank you for your post.Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. My understanding of your post is that you are dealing with two issues, one, the projector lamp is on, when you expect it to be off, and two, the touch mat is not working for you. I am happy to give you a hand with this. For the first issue with the projector, I found the following post, with suggestions from forum experts @DavidPK and @WyreNut:  Sprout Projector.  This may be difficult to do based on your second issue. For the second issue with the touch mat, I would first make sure that you have all of your drivers up to date, and make sure you have the latest update for Sprout Workspace installed. You can use the HP Support Assistant, to check for updates. Please let me know how that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hi there, I'm in the midst of troubleshooting abruptly poor graphics performance on my Y510p and have already posted one subproblem to another thread. This post pertains to the crux of the issue. Starting 2 weeks ago I am getting very poor graphics performance (suddenly unplayable FPS in diablo 3; hearthstone is barely responsive).  I have done the obvious stuff: run applications using high nvidia gpu; set power preference within nvidia control panel to highest performance; updated nvidia drivers; confirmed that application shows up in notification.  I have also tried a clean install of windows 8.1 and, more recently, a onekey recovery followed by manual upgrade to windows 8.1. Recently I have taken to watching both nvida inspector and HWmonitor during my testing to try to understand the problem.  HWmonitor and nvidia inspector show dramatically different things when testing games.  nvidia inspector shows dynamic cpu clock and usage, with clock typically ~900mhz and usage ~50% (usage never hits 100%, even when I'm experiencing poor performance) while HWmonitor shows lower gpu utilization and a stable, unchanging, 405mhz clock. Can anyone help me make sense of this conflicting information? Additional data- My CPU seems to like to run at 3.3ghz when not in use- Shortly after starting a game, it throttles down (event manager says that the clock has been reduced by firmware).  This seems to happen when it hits 80C, which it d... Read more

Answer:HWmonitor shows low gpu clock but nvidia inspector shows high clock?

Sorry you are saying that NVIDIA inspector show dynamic CPU clock and HWMonitor shows GPU clock.
Ideally, you should be looking at same stats in both applications.

First, I think you should uninstall NVIDIA inspector and only use HWMonitor. It is sufficient and provides accurate data.
Then, while playing a game take and post a screenshot of what HWMonitor shows, You can log that data to a file and see how high or low the CPU/GPU clock goes.

This can related to throttling but only those file data can provide enough proof.

Now, check these questions -
1) Have you ever set to lower you clock or show warning when your CPU reaches a specific temp in any application?
2) Are you playing the game on battery or plugged in?
3) Do you have SLI or single GPU? What is the driver version?
4) What is your power setting? Can you check in Advanced power setting about your CPU performance mode?
5) Is your laptop properly ventilated? What precautions are you using to keep it cool?
6) Since when do you own this laptop?
7) Have you messed with the BIOS. Can you check if you see something modified in your BIOS? (That is restricting your CPU)

could you tell me what each one does and stiff about it thanks!

Answer:what is gpu clock and memory clock?

Got to say your system spec is quite funny to read, not sure where to start or say but higher numbers = faster, but if you increase the base clock and mem clock, you get to a point where you need to increase the voltage to sustain a stable gpu, and in turn higher voltage = more heat and depending on voltage shorten the life of the gpu.

Other then that I'm not quite sure how you explain it.

Hi, I was wondering what would be better for my new computer in terms of fps.

I am limited to two possibilties (one or the other)
My dilemma is that I have to choose the AMD II X4 Phenom BE955 (3.2ghz)
and ddr-1600 ram
OR the AMD II X4 Phenom BE965 (3.4 ghz) and ddr.1333 ram

The reason for my constraint is that the new c3 revision of the BE965 does not support AMD OverDrive (AOD) --> which is helpful for running 1600 overclocked ram.

I am interested in the relative importance of ram speed in games, as opposed to the cpu speed.

Suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

Answer:cpu clock vs. memory clock

Please post this in the overclockers forum in future.

Personally I do not think you will see enough of an appreciable difference between the two to bother fussing over it.

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my graphics card, a 1GB ATI Radeon 5870HD. Most of the time, the GPU/memory clock speeds of the card operate at three levels: 157Mhz/300Mhz when idle, 400Mhz/900Mhz when playing a video or another 2D application, and 800Mhz/1200Mhz when under full load.

However, every so often, my card will become "stuck" at these maximum values, even when idle. ATI Overdrive also says that my card is under full load, even though I'm not running any sort of graphically-intensive software. So far, the only solution I've found is to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas?

RightMark CPU Clock Utility (RMClock) is a small GUI application designed for real-time CPU frequency, throttling and load level monitoring and on-the-fly adjustment of the CPU performance level on supported CPU models via processor's power management model-specific registers (MSRs). In automatic management mode it continuously monitors the CPU usage level and dynamically adjusts the CPU frequency, throttle and/or voltage level as needed, realizing the "Performance on Demand" concept.

Question: Always a Clock

I want to always have a clock at the bottom (or somewhere) of the web page I`m viewing even when I abreviate the top Toolbar by clicking F11. I`m using Vista. When I F11 click the Taskbar at the bottom, the clock is removed. Any thoughts please?

Answer:Always a Clock

F11 puts the browser in "full screen" mode, thus removing the Windows taskbar at the bottom..

Possible solutions :
-Manually remove unsused toolbars trough the browser menue (usually found in "View"
- Install a Widget on some sort set to always on top with a clock feature
- (similar) get a Dock feature to replace/complement the taskbar, put a clock feature on it and set it either to always on top or to appear when you hoover in a zone near it

Question: clock

my clock does not keep the right time when the battery is dead. i have checked the time zone settings i have set it with the internet. i know about the watch battery i just wan to make sure that is the onnly problem because my comp is only a year and a month old and i have had them for 4-5 years before and not had this problem. i took the main battery out the other day because i was goin to have it plugged in all day and did not want to ruin the battery. when we went to bed it got unplugged and the battery left out on accident and got used without the battery for a couple of days. now if the battery dies it does not keep the time.

Answer:clock

I does NO harm in using the laptop with it plugged in to external power and the battery installed at the same time. As a matter of fact it will keep the battery charged, so if you do lose power it will not damage the OS.

You may need to have this battery checked out if it will not keep a charge.

I would also have the internal battery checked, as it may be the source of your problem.

Question: Clock Fix?

I recently had a spyware issue with my system that neither Nortons or Windows defender could fix. I was called SpyShredder. Its one of those things that get in and drive you nuts trying to get you to pay them money to remove it. Anyway: I did a search and thats how I found this site. I found and did a fix, and it worked. I had to DL and run a thing called SmitFraudFix. It did its thing and got rid of my problem. It changed a few of my personal preference setting them back to default and I had to go through a tweak some stuff. But It changed one thing that I cant for the life on me find how to fix. It changed my clock to read 24hr instead of 12hr. I been all over this thing trying to find a way to change it back to 12hr. I use Windows Media Center as a DVR to record my favorite tv shows and even that is in 24hr. I even went into the BOIS to see if I could change it their. If somebody know how to fix this I would be greatful for the help.
