Preferred Solution: fix the microphone on sony vaio computer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you have a Sony Laptop, and your microphone stops working, I hope I have your answer. If you are like me, you take all of the logical steps - Uninstall the sound drivers, reinstall the sound drivers, uninstall them from the device manager, then reinstall them.

In my case, I checked the sound in the Control Panel, and everything looked right, said it was working, etc. This should be a fix for any Windows OS:

1) This is a given, but get the drivers from the Sony website (if they have them for your OS). Sony support is not very helpful. In this case download the ORIGINAL CAMERA drivers and save in a place you can easily find.
2) Right Click on Computer, Properties, Device Manager.
3) Look for Imaging Devices. In my case under that heading was Sony Visual Communications Camera VGP-VCC6 under the Imaging Devices.
4) Right Click on the Camera, click uninstall, check the box to remove the drivers from your computer. I always make a habit of rebooting after dealing with driver changes.
5) Install the original driver, and your mic should now work!

*From what I have seen and experienced myself the microphone and camera are tied together in Sony laptops, but usually it is assumed the mic is related to the sound drivers, since the microphone receives sound - hence the frustration and questions why reinstalling the sound drivers does not fix the problem.*

I hope this has solved your microphone issue!

God Bless!

Hey , Please help me
I have cleaned the cool and fun, two days ago, there was no thermal pasta and a lot of dust was left behind it. I cleaned it all. after i finish cleaning, i packed the laptop with the first position and start windows., everything is working fine, it is not overheating anymore. But how can i fix that bult in mic?
Do you think it is left unplugged , while i was cleaning the fan? where is built in mic located, i even don't know this.

please take a look at picture, i took when my laptop was unscrewed.

Answer:SONY VAIO VPCEB4C5E (Bult In Microphone Is Not Working)

If the mic was working before and it stopped working when you did the rebuild, it could be a cable left out. Alsoo it might even be a driver that it need's for it. Have you checked Device manager?

I have a Sony Vaio and am having trouble starting it up. When I hit the power button, instead of the light turning green it turns orange and the computer sounds like it is starting and then after a little sound from the hard drive it just suspends and the only thing running sounds like the fan???

Any Help?

Answer:Computer Won't Start - Sony Vaio

Hi and welcome.

It could be several things. First thing to check is the cabling, so if you feel confident enough to go in the case make sure the cables are pushed in properly. Make sure the pc power is off and earth yourself so no static will fry anything. Be careful of power supply unit as this holds big charge - and it's this that could be the prob.

I turned off my computer and later turned on back on only to get a black screen with a flashing white dash in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Previously, when this occured I repedialy hit F10 which took me to the product recovery. All programs were deleted and computer restored to its original settings. I don't want to do another product recovery. Is there anything else I can do first?

Hi guys I need some help..
I have sony vaio, OS: Windows Vista, I'm just watching movies and suddenly my laptop hanged up and i waited for a few minutes and still not working then I decided to remove the battery and restart.

Then i tried to open again, but it doesnt work anymore :(
There are 2 Option there after that: 1. Repair your computer (recommended) 2. Start your computer normally. I tried both, still not working its keeps on restarting to same situation. Then, i decided to use safe mode.. i can go to the menus but unfortunately all options is not working. :(

And for sony vaio, there is option u can restore and rescue the data just to press F10.
I tried to rescue the data with the use of external disk but also not working.

I have 2 partition (which is C drive and D drive) - i tried to repair again then asking for drivers, but all hidden recovery and back up inside the computer is not working.. But i tried to test to copy the drive D (pictures, movies, music etc luckily i copied it to external drive)

I don't want to try the system restore, coz i have some important files in my drive C, such as office documents and credentials. :(

Then last thing i remember I have a recovery disk which i created since i bought my laptop.. then i tried to repair using the this but its nothing happen too, not even show how to repair.

Ive ran out of options already and hopefully you guys can understand my explanation and can help me..

Just inform me if you need additional informat... Read more

Hi all, I just reformatted my laptop recently because of a virus. I downloaded a bunch of drivers for this laptop from the official Sony website. Everything was working until yesterday when I decided to download a bios update. I updated from r2080h4 to r2087h4.. Now my laptop is unusable. It loads up extremely slow and everything is in slow motion so I can't do anything. I want to reset my bios version and I've tried to reset to default in the bios menu but it stays on the new version.. Any tips?

Answer:updated bios is Sony VAIO vpcse13fx.. slow computer

Download the previous version and install it.
One can also flash the BIOS via external media (CD/DVD, USB Flash Drive, SD card) by DOS and here. <--- Just a jump -off point.

Hi folks, somebody recommended this forum to me as it helped them out! Here's hoping you might be able to do the same for me ...I have a 21 month old Sony Vaio (VGN- FE31H) and it went out of warranty on December 2nd 2007. Unfortunately it also seemed to 'die' a month later in January of this year, whilst I was 9 months pregnant with my first child... bah!Fast-forward to many months of online technical 'support' later....which has basically been a sham as they just keep on closing my queries and trying to SELL me the recovery discs that I feel should have been included with my initial purchase. I have done a little searching online and somebody with the same issue (or at least a very similar one) bought the recovery discs and they didn't actually work anyway.I cannot even access Windows or operate the computer in safe mode...the Sony Vaio logo appears then a BLUE SCREEN message:A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down in order to prevent any damage to your computer.Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disc defragmentation or backup utilites. i had windows xp working with internal graphics fine and then switched to vista---that was retarded so i switched back to xp by booting from the disk. it worked but it is running in 4bit color and 640 by something resolution. in my bios i cannot find the setting to turn on internal graphics and under "advanced" there is only the options of I/0 configuration and PCI configuration. which both take me to other menu's

dont tell me to get a graphics card because the computer does not have a graphics slot and all 3 PCI slots are full, yes i know the computer sucks...

Answer:How do i get internal graphics working in my awardBIOS on a sony VAIO computer?

In BIOS try resetting the BIOS Settings to Default. You will likely have to reset the Drive configurations though. You may need to reinstall the Motherboard and Chipset drivers.

Please post your system specs, To include Make and model System if Big Box, or same info for the following it custom or home built, Mother Board (including Revision number), Processor (Exact Model Number), Ram, Video Card, Hdd(s), Optical Drive(s), Power Supply Manufacturer Model, Wattage and Amperage on the +12V Rails, OS, and any other peripherals installed on the motherboard.

So, this is what happened:

1. A pendrive infected with virus was inserted (unknowingly)

2. Malwarebytes scanned and removed them. After removing asked me to restart, which I did.

3. I remember some system32 folder files were shown as infected but I dont remember exactly the names.

4. After reboot, I got vaio splash screen and then just a black screen. Nothing else!

What I have tried so far:

1. Tried the "unplug battery and power plug, then press the power button for a minute or two and then connect just the power plug (not battery) and boot" thing, didnt work.

2. Tried the assist button. But the first option named "start troubleshooting (recovery)" option restarts the laptop and again after the vaio splash screen, I get the black screen.

PS: The only way to get to see the 'boot into safe mode, network mode, etc" options is through that assist button. It doesnt work! I can however access the bios options.

3. Tried booting ubuntu live from a flash drive and it worked successfully. However, when I tried to open the windows paritions within the ubuntu live usb drive, it said they were "unclean drives"and failed to mount them.

4. So, I tried the Bitdefender rescue cd and scanned the whole system. It found 1 infected file (although it was more like a potentially unwanted program or something, not a malware or serious virus.)

5. Also, tried a windows 8 installation disk but it too would not boot. Tried a windows install... Read more

Hi Folks, This is my first post. so go easy on me;-)

I switched on my PC after 1 year of no use(apple imac distracted me for a while).
The message "operating system not found" appears when it boots up. I put in the Sony Recovery disk, bit it could not read it. As Sony didn't provide a spare copy of XP, how do I get back up and running? Do I have to change the motherboard battery? any advice much appreciated.

I Hope you Christmas is Merry and peaceful.

Cheers,
Dryfly

Answer:Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-RX305 Windows XP now missing, no disks supplied by Sony

Call Sony Tech Support if you are the registered owner or buyer. They will provide a disk set for a small fee ($27) for six years after purchase, or until they run out.
Your only other choice is to buy the disk online at some place like ebay, or buy Windows Home (still available for $82) or Windows XP Professional for $135.
The motherboard battery should not be bad, but if it is, you can get a replacement (CR2032) at Wal-Mart ofr $3.67 or on eBay for $2.58.
The recovery disk may be good, and it is your optical drive that has gone bad.

This is happening at shutdown as well, after pressing shutdown, firstly a Black screen appear for a few seconds and then my vaio is shutting down., I guess there is something changed in Bios, maybe by Local repairers.

Answer:SONY VAIO Slows At Start Up, Before SONY Logo Loads.

If I'm understanding correctly, your Vaio is taking about 7-8 seconds longer to start. At shutdown you're getting a black screen and it's taking a few seconds longer than what you're used to. But is everything else in between (opening programs, searching on the internet, etc) working OK?

If it is, my first reaction is to say don't worry about it. I have a VPCEB47GM and it takes about 10 seconds for the Sony logo to appear and about 50 seconds total to be able to use Windows 7. On shutdown I usually get a black screen for about 5 seconds but the rest of the shutdown process takes about 30 seconds to finish.

Do you know what your BIOS settings were before you took the machine into the repair shop? If you do, you could compare them to how the BIOS is set now. But if you don't know how the BIOS was originally configured, I wouldn't be changing anything.

I'd like to reinstall Windows 98 on a Sony Vaio N505VE, but it requires a Sony CD drive. When I purchased the laptop 4 years ago, it came with a Backpack CD-Rom Drive. A few months ago, I researched online and I seem to recall a website that gave instructions on how to reinstall Win98 without the Sony drive, but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know how I can do this?

This is the first time contacting Sony support. After waiting for over 1/2 hour, finally a person comes online. I spend another 20 minutes giving him name, address, etc and then I find out that it is "paid support".

After an online chat and trying to contact Sony support, maybe the only solution is to trash the Sony Notebook and buy a Dell. Does Dell still provide support?
The problem is "no sound from the computer". I have spent 4 hrs this morning downloading and checking for updates to all the sound drivers.

Any suggestions?

Answer:No sound Sony Vaio and No Sony Support

I hear the same complaints from Dell users on the Dell forum and from users of other brands. They are all equally lousy on support or want you to pay for it. e.g. "software" support on a Dell is separate from any warrnty or maintenance contract which only covers hardware. You get "free" software support for the first 30 days only.

Back to the sound problem. We need more info to try and assist. e.g. what sound do you have (if you know), etc. You didn't fill out all the needed System Specs. What have you tried? e.g. have you checked the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel to see if your "speakers" (sound card) is set as the default playback device?

Hi Everyone....Happy New Year!

My Vaio started going to safe mode after "recovering from a serious" problem. I got the dreaded blue screen telling me the video display hardware/software was acting up.

I was not able to boot up without Cntrl-Alt-Delete!

Now, she will not boot up one last time so I can dump my HD of some much needed data.

Is there any way to tell if I can replace the ATI 9200 card or....is this one terminal?

I need one more boot. For now, it will not even light up the screen.

Thanks! Brent Coleman

Recently, my computer has been using way more memory than it should be using. When I first boot up and just have a couple applications open its already using 4 gb. And since this has been happening I've noticed significant drops in performance, especially playing games.

I took screenshots of the amount of RAM it said I was using and then the list of the all the processes it said I had running. I added up all of the list and it was 2,137,406 kb when on the performance window it said I was using 5.46 gb so I don't know where that additional 3.36 gb is coming from.

Hi
I have a Sony Vaio PCV-V1/G. When connected to the Internet the task manager shows the CPU to be at 100% and the screen keeps locking. I have used Microsofts latest "fix it" programme to remove some add ons etc but it has made no difference. The C drive is currently 95% full and the computer has 1GB RAM.
Can anyone suggest a fix please?

Answer:Sony Vaio CPU at 100%

Your problem could easily be the lack of space on the HDD especially with limited RAM as Windows is probably trying to run the indexing service and to use some HDD space as memory.
You should try to free up some HDD space, but really you need a larger HDD and probably more RAM.

You would have to boot into the recovery manager menu by pressing the specified key for recovery at the BIOS splash screen.

Alternatively, you can just install the wifi driver yourself which would be faster IMO lol.

Question: Sony Vaio Help

Hello, i have a new Sony Vaio (not sure model) running vista basic (i think) just bought last christmas.

Two days ago i was playing a game (as usual) then it just out of the blue started to shut down and install the regular updates displaying 1 of 3 0% regretably i held down the power to shut it down immediately. I restarted it and it started to boot normally until the after the windows sign appears it goes to installing updates 3 of 3 0% stays for about 1-3 mins then says shuting down then does so and restarts and completes the process over.

Im not sure why i had the random crash (maybe the game?) in the first place but im thinking the boot files were messed up when i held the power key (because it says please do not shutdown when its installing) but ive tried just about everything i know to do which is just trying everything in the boot menu the ONLY way i can actually boot up (which is in safe mode) is like "boot recovery seystem" or something like that in the advanced boot mode options which is pretty much the only thing that works AT ALL. the only other thing that seems to work is going into that blue screen where i can set a system password or change the boot order (where i think is where you start the recovery discs (which i do not have)). But getting into the recovery safe mode thing i tried to system restore to an earlier date. the recovery process takes place normally until i get to finalizing recovery process.. then it just sticks. I left it overnight t... Read more

Answer:sony vaio

First check to be sure the cable inside the computer that goes to the CD ROM is seated in the CD ROM properly. If it is loose this will happen. If it is a new system with a seal you may have to take it back to let them check. Also the BIOS may not be set up to recognize the CD ROM.

Question: Sony VAIO

To start i apologize if this in in the wrong section.

Right i have just signed up after hours looking on the internet to still be out of luck on fixing my laptop.

I got a 2nd hand Sony VAIO (PCG-71311M) from a friend, so i was in the stage of cleaning all the data off from the laptop, selected "restore factory settings", but now everytime i turn the laptop on i get a black screen with "Operating System Not Found_".

My friend did not have any form of recovery disk or Windows 7 disk, only otherthing apart from the laptop itself is the charger.

What can i do to get the laptop back up and running? Any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks.

Edit: To add i have clicked the F10 key until i get "Edit Boot Options" clicked Enter and then get the VAIO Care Rescue screen. I have try to start recovery but it gets to 6% and then stops.

Answer:Sony VAIO

Recovery typically doesn't work at all without the recovery discs.

At this point, I'd suggest purchasing the retail version of the OS of your choice, and installing fresh.

Question: Sony Vaio

I just got a sony vaio from a friend of a friend. I glady accpeted it because my motherboard in my regular laptop has a short in it somewhere so until I raise the funds to replace it I wanted to use this one. Well... the laptop is perfect for my needs but she got it from an international student who is no longer in the country. The laptop displays both Chinese and English languages. Thankfully the system files are in English.

Anywho, the reason for this is because I want to factory reset the system. I am a admin on the system but I cannot access the partition for the reset. I tried using the edit boot options (f10) but all I get a input prompt I do not know what to do from there.

[ [/no execute=optin

partition: 3
hard disk: 75024967

path:/windows/system32/winload.exe

I have also tried the recovery software but can only revert to a previous point.

Please advise me.

Sys Specs:
Sony Vaio VPCCW21fx

There are three partitions one has no assigned letter. I think this is where that factory reset is located. I have included a screen grab of that.

Question: Sony Vaio pcv-w2

hi, im an IT support technician i got a sony vaio pcv-w2 computer in (its like a pc/tv) anyway the hard drive had failed, so i put in a new drive and installed xp home, but im having real trouble finding the drivers for it (sony cleverly put these on a hidden partition on the hdd abd dont supply a cd).

i downloaded a file called pre- installed drivers from the sony vaio website for this model(most unhelpful support site ive come across in my 2 and a half years as a techie) but the multimedia video and audio drivers and an unknown device are still not installed, ive tried a number of different drivers witch i thought will have solved the audio but no luck,

has anyone got one of these who could email me the drivers? it would be much appreciated,

cheers
Dave

Answer:Sony Vaio pcv-w2

of the drivers are not available from the Sony site a bit of detective work is needed.

Down load Belarc advisor and run it on the Sony to obtain the detailed list of contro;;ers and bus adaptors you have. If you can't download, down laod ir elsewhere and copy it over.

Once you have the definition and manufacturer of the adaptors check which ones are not installed.

Go to that manufacturer's web site and locate your chipset and download their generic drivers.
Sounds too easy - it has taken a week to get the Sony drivers I need having gone from xpmce to xp pro.

If you post the adaptors I might be able to help with locating generic drivers.

Question: Sony Vaio VGC-M1

Does anyone have any experience of the above computer?
I have one that won't boot into windows, I have gone through the recovery process and gets part way into booting into windows and then reboots itself. I have tried reloading Windows Xp on its own and again it reboots at the same spot.
I have fitted some new memory but this made no difference, this model seems to be a bit of a hybrid as it uses some laptop parts and some desktop parts. I suspect repairing it will be expensive, does anyone have any suggestions?

I bought a Vaio in 2002 and i left it in my car the other day on accident. It may be a coincidence with leaving it in the car, but now it doesnt go past the SONY screen before it says "MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM." This is one of several messages im getting seeing that ive tried starting it 100 times. It will also say......

"SMART failure predicted on HARD disk 0: (then it has a heart symbol here). WARNING:immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. "

Sometimes when it has this message, instead of having the heart symbol after the begining.....it will have "IBM-DJSA-220-(PM)"

Im not sure what any of this means. I was given system recovery CDs with the computer and most of the time when i try to run them it says "program terminated." One time it DID go through with the system recovery, but when it restarted the computer........after the sony screen it said missing operating system again.

Now.......somehow after turning computer on and off a million times, one time it just decided to come on. Is there anything that i can look at now since the computer booted up to try and figure out whats wrong. I have the strangest feeling that if I turn it off again it will not reboot.

One time while running the recovery discs it came up and said

Your hard drive is about to die. That is what S.M.A.R.T is made for is error detecting on your hard drive which is a very good feature. I would backup right now all your important data while you can before it is to late. Then install a new hard drive and see if that cures all your problems.

Question: Sony Vaio?

yes yes, its over priced I know.

but I like their styling and specifically the SZ and the new SR and Z series
(c'mon weighs in @ 4lbs and got a discrete gfx card(although weak) and was one of the thinnest nb before mac air came along... count me in)

I've got the SZ but recently a fan just went berserk... like super loud all the time
before it was quiet...

what do you guys think?

open it up and check it out?
or drop it like its hawt and get a new one (don't have to be a Vaio)

Answer:Sony Vaio?

Has the warranty expired yet? It would be cheaper to get the fan replaced than to buy a new laptop. Try blowing the dirt out of the cooling vents with canned air. The fan maybe running at high speed because of the extra heat.

I wish all laptops were built like my Dell Inspiron 9100. The fans are user replaceable. They just pop right out the bottom.

HiGot a Sony Vaio PCG 6P2M and the hard drive has failed. I want to replace it but can't find any information on this lap top that tells me how to go about it. Any help about achieving this process would be very helpful.

Answer:New HD for A sony Vaio

If the machine is still in warranty get Sony to do it, I however suspect it is not in warranty. If you have the manuals check there to find the specifications of the drive already present. You wont want to replace it with a slower drive or smaller capacity etc. Most laptops with screens under 16inch use standard 2.5inch hard drives. These are mounted in a "caddy" which is unique to the laptop in question. Almost all laptops have their drive located in a dedicated place on the undersideclick hereThis advent is such an example. Some however also located the screw on the bottom with the drive pulling out the side like the DVD/CD tray.click hereSuch as this dell, sony also have been known to do this too.Overall the replacement works like this1. Undo screw2. remove cover3. unscrew drive caddy screws (if present)4. lift the drive up and away from the connector5. remove any connection cables6. repeat 1-5 in reverse order to replace with the new drive.A

Question: Sony VAIO DOA...

I am trying to help a friend with his laptop. It is a Sony VAIO VPCEE23FX. Apparently this laptop has a bad hard drive and I'm trying to figure out if it's toast or if it's something that can be fixed. I chatted with the Sony help person for a while and he advised me that since it was out of warranty that he really couldn't help me too much.

Upon turning on the power I can get the Sony logo to appear then it immediately goes to S.M.A.R.T. has detected a hard disk error. Back up your files. Press ESC to continue...

Once you press ESC it tries to boot and gives this message "Operating System Not Found". Although if you press F10 over and over you can get into a series of Windows screens that will allow you to go to the System Recovery thingy, but it never gets past 6%.

Of course we don't have any of the original disks, although I did make a boot DVD, but the machine won't read it, even after changing the boot sequence to reflect that.

Help?

Answer:Sony VAIO DOA...

If SMART says something is wrong, 99.9% of the time, it is true. Most likely there is something corrupt on your hard drive. I fear the only thing you can do is get a new HDD and reinstall Windows. But as you don't have the install discs, there is little you can do.

Question: Sony vaio

Hi, my wife has a Sony vaio with windows 7 installed. The kids were on it and it shut down with the blue screen coming up on reboot. I have been into the bios and it states there is only 3gb on the hard drive instead of 300+ that should be there. I didn't make any back up discs and cannot system restore. Does anyone have any reasonably priced ideas as to a solution to this problem. If any more info is required I can add if needed. Thank you for your time.

Answer:Sony vaio

If the system needs to be completely reformatted, your best bet is to go to Sony's website and order a set of factory restore discs. The factory restore discs should not require a reactivation of Windows or the purchase of a new license code.

If you have important files, note that a factory restore will delete them.

To get the files, try starting the PC in Safe Mode by tapping the "F8" key. If this works, you should be able to transfer them to a USB flash drive or external hard drive. Before reinstalling the files, scan the files with a program such as Malware Bytes (http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756) to be sure the kids didn't accidentally download any creep.

Hope this helps.

Question: Sony VAIO Help

Hello, my brother has a Sony VAIO model PCV-A11L.
Something went wrong in his computer and he had to reformat.
The reformatting process went fine but he cannot access the internet due to his lack of drivers.
I checked Sony's site for the drivers, but his computer model doesn't even exist in their database.
When I do type it in, it gives a # of different models (that aren't his) to select from.
I've tried a few of the modem drivers for those models and none of them seem to work either saying "this driver is not intended for this model)
Can anyone help me find the driver for it?
Thanks.

edit- few more information.
He didn't reinstall the OS that it came with, (Windows XP Media Center Edition) but installed Windows XP SP 2 instead. Does this effect the compatibility of the driver?

Most likely? No.

What's the model number?
Many model numbers have prefix or suffixes, that you don't need when searching for a model number (Granted- most should realize that number is a valid one though).

Like many NICs or Graphic Cards have an "L" at the end to specify low profile.... The drivers are the same exact as the non-L ones, but if you search for the one with the L on the end it might not come up with anything.

Just my two cents. If you post the model # someone might be able to tell you!

Question: Sony VAIO?

Would a Sony VAIO NR32 laptop be good enouugh to do some video editing on? It's specs are 1.8ghz chip, 2 gb ram with 200 gb drive, although I would not be any where near the limit as it would only be for small projects, etc. Seen as it has a firewire socket it should be up to the job?

Question: Sony Vaio Tap 11

The Tap 11 is officially on sale with ship dates of next week. Also it came in $100 cheaper than I expected for the i5 Y-series processor so once you factor in the cost of a Type Cover it's actually a little cheaper than the 128 GB Surface Pro 2. If the lack of 'lapability' isn't a huge concern for you and then it's worth considering this device as well. Every device has its compromises but this one looks like it's going to be the one for me.
While there is still an IR blaster and NFC it looks like, at least in the initial offering of models, there doesn't appear to be GPS and SIM card options so bummer.
After noticing the i7 Y-series option can turbo boost to 2.9 Ghz compared to 1.9 Ghz of the Y-series i5 (and the 2.6 Ghz turbo boost of the SP2's U-series i5) i think i'm going to fork out the extra cash for the i7 even though it's only a dual-core chip. I was concerned about editing RAW photos with a Y-series CPU but a 2.9 Ghz turbo boost should make that much more tolerable.
Also I've read that Best Buy will have these in stores so I look forward to trying it out before buying. While I like there being a physical Windows button so I can hold it in portrait mode without worrying about hitting a capacitive button supposedly the build quality of the button isn't the greatest.

Question: Sony Vaio help!

So I have had several problems with my sony vaio that I bought 9 months ago. It is running windows 7 home premium.

about 4 weeks ago it became really slow and simple tasks, like right clicking or going into folders didn't work or froze my entire computer. I'm a technology and art student at WPI so I have a lot of programs on my computer (the adobe suite, Maya, Microsoft office2010, Skype, just to name the most used/ largest). I never had much open at once though. It froze constantly and was not running smoothly so I reformatted it.

After reformatting it worked great! at least for 4 weeks... Today it gave me the blue screen of death, which I thought no longer existed. I was only running Skype and chrome at the time. I manually restarted and started a virus scan using Mcafee's on demand scan. It scanned for about 3.5 hours then stared to freeze up/ not respond. I opened chrome to google something and thats when it got real slow. I closed the internet but my computer screen went black and slowly came back then there was nothing but the desktop background, I could't even ctr alt delete (it gave me an error message). So I had to restart again and opened in safe mode. But it game a a crazy I/O error while in safe mode. two actually.

I have no idea what is wrong with it. I took it to my college's help desk the first time i reformatted and they just told me to wipe it.

I don't go onto any websites with viruses/ don't click on the popups. I don't know what is wrong and am really ... Read more

hmmm, can I recommend something for you ?

Can you download mssentials and anti-malware bytes and let malware bytes do a scan and see what it picks up ?
Also it might be a good idea to clean out your system clutter rather than doing a unnecessary wipe.

Download a ccleaner CCleaner - Download

Download a defraggler Defraggler - File and Disk Defragmentation - Free Download

Both of these and that should help get you right back on track.
