Preferred Solution: bits error 126 windows 7

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

make sure "Cryptographic Services" is running.if fail, you can try below methods:a) Delete the contents of the "Windows\System32\catroot2" folder and see if that helps resolve the issue.b) If that fails, then check all the root directories and see if any are set as "Read Only"C) Make sure cryptui.dll is in system32 folder and is NOT corrupt!d) Make sure certcli.dll is in system32 folder and is NOT corrupt!use sfc /scannowe) Re-register DLL Files That Are Associated With the Cryptographic ServiceTo register .dll files that are associated with Cryptographic Services, follow these steps:Click Start, and then click Run.In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each line:Note Click OK if you are prompted to do so.regsvr32 softpub.dll regsvr32 /u wintrust.dll regsvr32 /u initpki.dll regsvr32 /u dssenh.dll regsvr32 /u rsaenh.dll regsvr32 /u gpkcsp.dll regsvr32 /u sccbase.dll regsvr32 /u slbcsp.dll regsvr32 /u cryptdlg.dllregsvr32 /u softpub.dll Restart your computer.Click Start, and then click Run.In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command):Note Click OK if you are prompted to do so.regsvr32 softpub.dll regsvr32 wintrust.dll regsvr32 initpki.dll regsvr32 dssenh.dll regsvr32 rsaenh.dll regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll regsvr32 sccbase.dll regsvr32 slbcsp.dll regsvr32 cryptdlg.dllregsvr32 softpub.dll

Hello Tech Support Guy Nation,

So I have an issue with getting a laptop hooked onto the router signal. The router is a brand spankin new Linksys EA4500 and the laptop is an IBM which is running Win XP (not sure of SP version as it is a customer's comp. at a hotel I run). Anyway, the error message I am encountering is:

The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters

At first I thought is was my router password since it contained a $ symbol so I changed it to only letters and numbers but still didn't work. I have never encountered this error message on any laptops and no other rooms have been affected. Thank you as always for the the knowledge...

Answer:Solved: Error Message:"The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending.

You are using WPA or WPA2 encryption and the laptop--because of the lack of at least service pack 2, incorrect wireless driver, or old wireless adapter--does not support WPA(2).

This is a rather unsual error message from Windows 7, that cannot even run 16-bits programs, quote:

"Too many other files are currently in use by 16-bit programs. Exit one or more 16-bit programs, or increase the value of files in your Config.sys file."

The only time that this issue shows up is when trying to run a program as administrator from within my standard user account. The "Run as..." could be initiated either manually, or by running a program that requires elevated access rights to the system, such as starting an installation as a standard user.

The error is seemed to be triggered by the UAC, or more accurately the "consent.exe" file that actually locks up the screen and nothing can be accessed. It seems that the system is waiting for input for the UAC, clicking anywhere on the screen results in the typical error sound but nothing else. The "ctrl-alt-del" does bring up a list, selecting log out pops up the quoted error message during the logoff process. Logging back in with the same UID seems normal, until the "Run as..." initiated and the system seems locked again. Rebooting the system clears up this error, but it does come back in an irregular interval. The timeframe could be from an hour, or more, on some days it does not come back at all.

While Windows 7 64-bit does not have a "config.sys" file, one has been added to "C:\" that contains:

Answer:16-bits program error message in 64-bits W7...

Well, having the "config.sys" file did not help. The system still have the same issues as posted earlier. Removing EMET 3.5 didn't help either...

Other than the "Run as...", the system works fine with any other programs. While I could grant administrator access to my user account, I'd prefer not to do it.

Would anyone have an idea what could cause this issue?

my desktop is Dell XPS 730. it currently using Vista 32 bits. Everything runs very slow and none of games are runnable due frames dropping, skipping, and freezing even after I installed new Hard Drive. I decided upgrade to Windows 7 64 bits would help with running minecraft game without issue.

I downloaded Windows 7 USB DVD download tool and Windows 7 64 bits ISO. it installed into flash drive successful but it came with bootsect error. So I looked around for it and found here 32-Bit BootSect

I downloaded "bootsect7600x86.zip". I right clicked and clicked on Properties and clicked unblock then applied and clicked ok. Then opened and I only find Bootsect exe file, nothing else. so I clicked that and command prompts came up and disappeared really instant and nothing ever happened. What am I missing? I also need Window 7 64 bits for my laptop after new HDD arrive. Just needed to make USB bootable somehow.

EDIT: I did right clicked on that exe file and did not see "run as admin"

EDIT2: Forgot to add, do I need to have product key code? Im upgrading my desktop from vista 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit

Answer:Upgrade to Windows 7 home perm 64 bits from Vista 32 bits

The term is bit, not bits

Use WintoBootic to put the iso on the flash drive, it works perfectly everytime.

WiNToBootic bootable usb drive windows vista/7/8 - Bootable USB | Bootable USB

Where are you downloading the iso from, I would download it again and check the size when you`re done.

Home Premium and Professional 64 Bit are both 3.09 GBs

Hey,
as the title says, I find myself in a dilema..

It started when I decided I wanted to put a total of 4GB of RAM in my computer. The problem is that I have Windows XP x86 (32-bits) installed.
Then, a few friends of mine adviced me to get rid of this old Windows XP (32-bits), get the total of 4GB of RAM and install Windows 7 x64.

My CPU's architecture supports x64 systems, as I have 4 cores. My main problem, is that I would have to reinstall all my programs, applications and drivers (because I have the 32-bits-versions installed) and that if I stay with my 32-bits-XP system, it would only read 3 to 3.5GB of RAM aprox.

In response to this, a friend told me that Windows 7 x64 wouldn't cause compatibility issues with those 32-bit programas, applications and drivers. However, if I'd like to get the best performance, I would have to download/get the x64-compatible-versions..

To sum it up, I would really like if you experts could help me and get me out of this dilema. Is it true what my friends mentioned me? Should I change and get the new Windows 7 x64? Which would be the downsides and which the upsides?

I would also like to mention that I am a still and motion graphics designer, and that the latest softwares for that (for instance all Adobe CS4) have come out x64.This would definitely be a plus if I change to Windows 7 x64, right?

Thank you very, very much.. Really.
Best regards,
Chris.

I have some registry problems in my recently installed windows 7 64 bits.

When I try to add a 32 bits ODBC throw C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe (and running as Administrator) and It throws me a "Cannot Write to registry" error.

If I enter into regedit as an administrator and if I go to any entry under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBC.INI I get an Access Denied error. If I try to assign rights to that key, It says I don't have permission to change the permissins.

Thanks, Ariel

Answer:Registry permission error in Windows 7 64 bits

I need help with this as well. When I go into RegEdit (as Admin), I get as far as Computer/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft with Full Permission, when I get to anything inside there I lose permission, I had it a week or so ago, but now I don't have it anymore, is there anyway I can get it back.

and yes, I do know what I'm doing

EDIT: Only TrustedInstaller has full access rights.

I've been struggling with my computer for months. When trying to download Windows updates it takes forever while it says it is preparing to install. Finally I get a big red X and the error code80246008. Windows says click here for the fix and then of course says it can't help. I realized that the svchost (netsvcs) that includes Windows Update is 25% of CPU usage. If I turn off Windows Update the CPU goes back to about 5%. I have so much room on my drive it wasn't noticeably moving more slowly. I know that there are huge MBs of updates. I've been doing this for a few months now and I can't remember how I got onto it but I think it's BITS. BITS is under the same svchost along with update. BITS looks to be turned on in every place but my Resource Monitor. I can't get it to start there. Otherwise Services.msc, Process Explorer etc seem to show it running fine but pulling a lot of CPU..

I tried the solution of doing something regarding net start bits and net start wuauserv. I know I did something before that but this didn't start BITS. sfc/scannow result is: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log. Maybe I should have started with this. I don't know a lot about computers and I don't know how to get into the CBS.log. Hi Everybody -
I have 8.1 & I'm the Administrator (& only user). For the last few months I haven't been able to get my Windows Updates to download. They look to be downloading and installing but after quite awhile they give me a 80246008 error. My research tells me that I need to have BITS running. (For those who know as little as I do it's the Background Intelligent Transfer Service).
So I went to service.msc which shows that BITS is running on automatic. (I also saw something online about COM+EVENT being a possible problem. That is also running on automatic. Then I saw possible problems with Remote Procedure Call. That is running on automatic).

I like to check my Resource Monitor and found that BITS is not running and I can't get it to run. Windows Update is running in processes and is pulling 25% CPU. I never noticed because my computer didn't slow down. I can't find COM+EVENT in the Monitor. Windows Update is Wuauserv and next to netsvcs.

So off to Process Explorer. Under a svchost.exe I found 13 items in the one containing Windows Update. It's also pulling 25%. I can list the other 12 programs there if you need to know them. I didn't look for BITS since it's a service.
So BITS is running in services.msc and not in my Resource Monitor. I keep trying to start it there but it won't start. In researching this I only found instances where BITS needed to be turned on. I found nothing that said BITS could be running in some places and not others.

I went to the ... Read more

Heres the story, if it were a common problem we could find it in Google, I looked too.
It may be a virus or other nasty

Download and run malwarebytes, the full scan after you update the software

Last night there was a power failure (lightning strike) while I was running Windows Update. Today when I run Windows Update I get Error 80246008, and I am unable to start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), which gives service-specific error code -2147024713.

What I have done so far to try to solve the problem:

1. Run sfc /scannow, which reports no errors.

2. Deleted the contents of the C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader folder.

3. Run Microsoft Fix It 50202 in Aggressive mode, which is supposed to solve this problem. It reports that it is unable to start the BITS service.

I'm about out of ideas, so some help would be appreciated.

Answer:Windows Update error; cannot start BITS service

I solved the problem. First, I did a system restore from the last restore point prior to the power failure. But that wasn't the only thing necessary. I then ran Microsoft Fix it 50123, which apparently recreated the damaged files in the C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader folder and successfully started the BITS service. And that seemed to take care of it; Windows Update ran without error. The only trouble with these Fix its and wizards is that you don't entirely know what they do.

I'm running Windows 7 SP1 (32 bit) on iMac (boot camp)

Hello there,

I'm wondering if someone can help me.I was not able to run Windows update. I was getting "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running"
I finally ran a Microsoft utility which errored out but still allowed me to run Windows update. At least I thought it did.

Now I'm getting "WindowsUpdate_80246008".

I tried a couple of things online and it appears that I'm missing the BITS service altogether. I'm not a big registry expert and it appears there may be a problem there. I also saw another post indicating that the qmgr.dll file could be corrupted.

I'm attaching the result of what services are currently started on my PC as well as the registry setting for BITS as indicated in another post. Not sure what other information you need.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:How resolve error 16393, BITS Error code: 0x80004005 I'net Gateway?

It happens to all my machines, and their internet connections are fine. Seems to be a common problem, but it likely isn't really causing any issues other than to those of us that look in our event viewers all the time.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

I installed Autocad 2010 in window 7(64 bits). I couldn't install because Autocad software software is 32 bits. Window 7 is 64 bits. So it couldn't not install. So I would like to know how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7.

Answer:how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7

32 bit software will run on 64 bit Windows 7 without any special steps being taken. Windows 7 64 bit actually maintains a 32 bit registry in order to accommodate 32 bit programmes. If you cannot install Autocad the problem is likely to be something more that the 32/64 bit difference. There is the possibility that it wouldn't even install on 32 bit Widows 7 and it is the OS itself that is the problem. You need to contact Autocad and see what they say about the problem, after all they know there own software better than anyone else.Stuart

Question: Bits Error

Not really too sure where to go with this one...not serious, but i am seeing Bits errors in the event vwr on one of my win 7 pro machines...event ID 16398

A new BITS job could not be created. The current job count for the user RILOT\dcataldi (60) is equal to or greater than the job limit (60) specified through group policy.  To correct the problem, complete or cancel the BITS jobs that haven't made progress
by looking at the error, and restart the BITS service. If this error recurs, contact your system administrator and increate the per-user and per-computer Group Policy job limits. i do not have that parameter configured in my domain, so the default should be
at 60 ?? can it be increased per pc ??

Thx,
Steve

WHEN TRIED TO BOOT INTO MY WINDOWS 7 YESTERDAY I RECEIVED AN ERROR POPPING A BLUE SCREEN " HARD ERROR ". AFTER THIS ERROR WHEN I HAD TIRED TO RESTART MY PC IT STARTED IN NORMAL MOD WHAT COULD HAVE THE PROBLEM INITIALLY ....

Answer:WIN 7 64 BITS HARD ERROR

Please turn off your caps lock when posting. it looks like your shouting.
Hard Error means there is a Hardware Error, most usually the Hard Drive.
What is the make and model # of your computer?
You can download the ISO image for Seatools in my signature, and burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD and run the Short and Long tests on the HDD. This may solve you problem, but if either test fails, the HDD needs to be replaced.

Hi guys,
I have a nasty problem on Windows 8.1
My BITS Service won't start (and therefor Update, Store, etc are all down).
Event log shows two error events;
The BITS service failed to start. Error 0x80070002.
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the following service-specific error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
Addditionally another error appears every now and then:
The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error:
Access is denied.
I've tried so far:
wsreset.exe
Windows Update Troubleshooter -> first few times it just said it coudn't fix my problem, now it just hangs on starting BITS
sfc /scannow -> no errors found
Microsoft FixIT for Win Update
System Restore
Refreshing the image using DISM
I checked all the registery keys for BITS with another build 9600 pc and made them matching, no effect.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
I have been trying to update y newly installed copy of WIN10 for the last week due to the fact that I cannot open most windows apps including the store and the XBOX app. I have tried everything I could find online to fix it and have gotten to what I believe to be the root of the problem, but I cannot find a solution.

When i try try to update, it just hangs at 0% until Update gives me the error code 0x80248007 for all the updates I am trying to install. I did some digging and found out this is due to the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) not starting. All the processes BITS depends on are working and running and every time I try to start it in windows services I get the error code 2147023828 and it never starts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really like Windows 10 and would like to update it so that maybe all the bugs I am experiencing will be resolved

*******SOLVED********
"Good news! I found that the Network Location Awareness and Network List services were stopped. After starting them, BITS was able to run. So you were right, the network list errors were involved. Is it safe to say that at least one of those services should be included in BITS' dependencies list?In any case, Windows Update is finally working again. Thank you so much for your attentive help.
Cheers."

Hi All - My Windows updates on 8.1 will not install. It acts like it is downloading and installing but it finally gives me error 80246008. After some searching I discovered this means that I have to turn on BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service for those who know as little as I do). (BTW, I'm the Administrator & the only one who uses the computer). I went to services.msc and it shows that BITS is running on automatic. Something I read online while researching this said that COM+EVENT might be related. It is also running on automatic.

So off to the Resource Monitor (resmon). BITS shows that it is stopped and I can't start it from there. Windows update (in Processes) is pulling 25% of my CPU. I never noticed because my computer hasn't slowed down.

Now to Process Explorer. Windows update showed as Wuauserv and netsvcs in the Resource Monitor. I found the svchost containing Windows Update in the Process Explorer. It's pulling 25% CPU. There are 13 other items under that svchost if you need them. Since BITS is a service I didn't look for it.
Windows Update and COM+Event are running in the Task Manager.

I'm not the most knowledgeable person about computers. I've tried things I've found online but couldn't find anything that discussed BITS showing that it's running in some places and not in others. One fix involved a command prompt. My command prompt is this: C:\Users\Dawn D>  which seems a weird prompt to me.

You cant just change from a 64 bit OS to a 32 bit OS. You have to actually install the different OS you can't just change a setting. What's going on here? thank you

Hello Dare2winnn,

It's recommended to use a 64-bit AV program on a 64-bit OS for full protection. Some 32-bit AV programs will not install on a 64-bit OS.

I just use the included Windows Defender.

Hope this helps,

I am trying to update my system with windows update, but it doesnt' work..

I have narrowed it down to BITS not starting.. When I open services and try to
start it manually, I get the error "Windows could not start the BITS service on LOCAL COMPUTER. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified"

I have tried the Microsoft FixIt and the Fix Windows Update utility from TheWindowsClub.. From another post, I also noticed the folder at

\users\all users\application data\microsoft\network\download

is set to 'read only'.. I can uncheck that, but it stays as read only.. I'm
not sure if that has anything to do with it or not..

Is this fixable? I'd like to update!

Answer:BITS Error 2: The System cannot find the file specified

This may be simple, or it may be very complex - are you ready for what could be a long thread?
If not, then a repair install is the way to go.

A little history on your problem would help us decide how complex this is likely to get.
Have you had malware problems recently?
How long-standing is your problem?
What other symptoms apart from not being able to update are you seeing?

Guys this one has me stumped.
I get this on fresh start, on restart, on awakening from sleep and/or hibernation as best I can tell.
This is on a clean fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on Dell Latitude E5440.
So far, for this particular gremlin I get Warnings, not "Critical" - Reading many posts on roughly similar BITS errors I seem to be lucky as some result in consistent BSOD's

I guess that the root cause is a device that is not coming into powered-up state in an interval BITS routine is looking for. It always occurs once or twice in quick succession when coming on, per above. At least its consistent

Hi everybody -
I have 8.1 & I'm the Administrator (& only user). For the last few months I haven't been able to get my Windows Updates to download. They look to be downloading and installing but after awhile they give me an 80246008 error. My research tells me that I need to have BITS running. (For those who know as little as I do it's the Background Intelligent Transfer Service). So I went to service.msc which shows that BITS is running on automatic. (I also saw something online about COM+EVENT being a possible problem. That is also running on automatic.)

I can list the other 12 programs if you need to know them. I didn't look for BITS since it's a service.
So BITS is running in services.msc and not in my Resource Monitor. I keep trying to start it there but it won't start. In researching this I only found instances where BITS needed to be turned on. I found nothing that said BITS could be running in some places and not others.
If you are thinking of doing something with my C prompt it seems kind ... Read more

Hello! This is my first post here, I had a nasty virus a while ago (I think I managed to get it all cleaned out) but it played hell with my updates, and recently I think I discovered why. I am having issues almost identical to those of this poster:

In other words, I receive an error whenever I try to use Updates and BITS is not present in my services list.

I would like some help resolving these issues (I am missing 40+ important Windows updates!). Here is a screenshot that may help:

Can someone explain these figures to me? Im talking about 8 Bits/channel in terms of imagery and pictures. I dont really get these. Is it the smaller the number, the better the picture? And, I heard that there are also different colour channels? Like Red and Blue channels, are these just the channels in which the computer can read and identify? And what about 48 bit colour? Is that in the same category as 8 Bits/channel? Or is it something totally different.I need to know more about colours.Thanks.

Answer:48 bits 16 bits 8 Bits Channel.

Essentially, bits per channel represents colour depth, the higher the bits per channel, the higher the range of distinct colours. This should explain better than I could click hereAnd when your finished reading that click here for answers to your colour channels query.

Hello,
I have a pretty frustrating problem with my Windows 8.1 laptop. The BITS service won't start. There are 3 different errors shown in Event Viewer:
1. The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the following service-specific error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
2. The BITS service failed to start. Error 0x80070002.
3. The server {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
So far I have tried:
-chkdsk
-sfc/scannow
-Windows Update Troubleshooter
-wsreset.exe
-Refreshing the image using DISM
-making sure the registry key parameters were correct
How can I fix this issue?
Thank you very much

Answer:The BITS service failed to start. Error 0x80070002.

After looking more into the issue, I noticed a few other problems.
1. I can't register qmgr.dll: the module qmgr.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found
2. Windows Automatic Update Service is not showing up in services.msc. I read in a forum that I should type this command into command prompt to reinstall it: %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\au.inf
But command prompt just tells me that the installation failed.

Hey all,
Windows updates and Microsoft Security Essentials won't update, Windows Update giving the error code 80246008. Looks like cause is the Background Intelligent Transfer Service is unable to start.

Error when trying to start the service:

Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer service on the local computer. For more information review the system event log. If this is a non-Microsoft service contact the service vendor and refer to service-specific error code -2147024894

Things I've done:
1. Ran sfc /scannow (no problems reported)
2. All steps here: Windows Update Error 80246008 in Windows 7 - Fix
3. Attempted this: You receive an error message when you try to download updates from the Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site, or when you try to start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service

Answer:Update error 80246008 with BITS unable to start

Ok problem solved. I've seen this issue around the net in a lot of places with no real fixes, so I'll post mine.

What was happening was that BITS was unable to start. Apparently "-2147024894" translates to an "Access is Denied" error.

The folder "C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader" seemed to have permissions issues that have plauged the rest of my Windows 7 experience. Thus, I fixed the problem using the "Take Ownership" program from these forums on that folder. Take Ownership.

The BITS service was able to start, and I can now download and install Windows Updates.

I hope that this information will help others with this problem.

Hello, I am trying to clean up a computer. I went to do a Windows update and noticed that the computer hasn't been able to update since 2010. The error code that I searched on google which is 80246008, in an old Microsoft forum post showed that this could be a sign of potential malware if you are unable to start the BITS service. I have already done multiple scans such as rkill, tsdkiller in safe mode. I also did a Malwarebytes scan with their techbench product as well as a scan with roguekiller and a Kaspersky scan. If it would help I can give more information on the details of those scans. However, I am still not able to start the BITS service so I am wondering if there is something hiding that is disguised so as not to be found by a scan.  Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) (x64) Version:01-12-2015Ran by Brian (administrator) on BRIAN-PC (03-12-2015 15:41:48)Running from C:\Users\Brian\DownloadsLoaded Profiles: Brian (Available Profiles: Brian & Mcx1-BRIAN-PC)Platform: Windows 7 Ultimate (X64) Language: English (United States)Internet Explorer Version 8 (Default browser: Chrome)Boot Mode: NormalTutorial for Farbar Recovery Scan Tool: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/335081-frst-tutorial-how-to-use-farbar-recovery-scan-tool/ ==================== Processes (Whitelisted) ================= (If an entry is included in the fixlist, the process will be closed. I have been trying to resolve this issue since Friday with no great progress.

The main issue is that a program on the laptop needs the Background Intelligent Transfer Service set to Automatic start, however when you try to change this setting, I get an Access Denied error (Error 5), I also get a similar access denied error when trying to manually start the service.

I have done the following 'general fixes' with no success; chkdsk /r, sfc /scannow, windows update repair tool and windows repair.
Other things I've tried:

Setting permissions in the registry for the BITS entries to give full access using the user's account.
Setting a password on the Administrator account.
Repairing BITS using guide on another forum.
Start the service from Administrator account (in safe-mode) and new Temp account (with admin rights).
Precautionary virus & spyware scan as I've read that Vundo virus can cause problems like this, albeit not found.
Other information that may help:

I get the same error on the Automatic Updates service.
I noticed corruption on the Path to Executable:, where instead of reading %SystemRoot% it read %fystemRoot%, although I fixed these entries in Regedit.
When going into Safe-Mode it logs straight in to the user created account instead of normally asking at logon screen which account to login with (Administrator account not in list, but does exist)
Similar to above when I created the Temp account, it logged straight in to the main user ac... Read more

The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

This is the error message I keep receiving whilst trying to connect a windows xp laptop onto a netgear router. Using Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG network connection.

I already have a macbook which connects fine as do my friends laptops when they come over. The laptop in question has worked before on this router with no issues, however, this is no more!!!

I think I might need to amend some setting to choose WPA but I can't figure out how to do it!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:the network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network config

You have to pick WPA in the router, then remove the stored wireless network profile and search for the network.

Hi,

I need your advices about wheter I should install Seven ultimate 32 or 64 bits.
My configuration is a bit oldish and I am not going to upgrade it.
- Gigabyte GA-K8NS
- Sempron64 3100+
- 3x1GB of DDR PC3200
Most of the application I use are so far only available in 32 bits.
All my hardware have 64 bits driver.
Got only 3GB of RAM so it is fully addressed by Seven 32

Do I get any better performance by having Seven 64
and use mostly 32 bit applications ?

Answer:Windows seven 32 or 64 bits

If your computer is old and most of the programs would not run with 64 bit, I would stay with 32. The performace increase would be marginal, at best.

Hello:

We plan to buy several laptops and desktop preloaded with XP and most of them will have at least 8 GB of memory.

From what I have read XP 32 bits cannot access more than 4 GB. Is this true? What would happen if I install 8 GB on an XP 32 bits machine?

Should we go ahead with 32 bits or 64 bits?

I've heard that the 64 bits laptop drivers are kinda expensive.

I'm not sure if all of our existing applications (i.e. antivirus) installed on our existing xp 32 bits machines could be installed on a 64 bits machine with no problems.

Or would we need to purchase the 64 bit versions?

Thanks and help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows XP 32 or 64 bits?

it is true 32 bit will only see about 3 gigs, however, companies are not beyond selling more than what is needed for the sake of a sale. It is done all the time.

drivers are free. Just go the specific laptops manufacturers website and see if they have 64 bit drivers, if they do, all you have to do is download and install - once you install a 64 bit os. However if they don't then there is a good chance your computer would not support 64 bit os for the specific operating system.

64 is the norm now. generally speaking 64 bit computers will support either 32 or 64 bit drivers and software.

one other thing to consider, if you want to upgrade from 32 to 64 bit, you will have to do a complete install of the os. You cannot upgrade.

Question: windows 64 bits

good day
how do i know , 9if their are any way ) what windows i do have in my PC , it is windows 64 bits or other. thank you verry much. and what it is the difference between the 2 windows.

Answer:windows 64 bits

howdy Leduc,

If you right click the "my computer" Icon and click properties it will tell you right in that window what version you are using..

As for which one is better? That depends. If you are using a 64 bit cpu like an AMD 64 then the 64 it will work. If not then it will not work. Another easy way is to know what type of cpu you have. If it is not a 64 bit cu then you cannot have a 64 bit os..

What type of cpu do you have?

And how?

Have you tried installing it as adminstrater.

i guys, this is 1st post on these forums, which i like a lot, especially the reviews, but anyways im having a hard time to decide which OS im gonna run on my new rig.....i already have all the components......what i do usually with my pc's is encode dvd's and audio....and especially i play games a lot.
these are my spec:

CPU: q6600 g0 stepping
MOBO: EVGA 680i NF68T1
VIDEO CARDS: EVGA 8800gts 640mb ( im waiting for the other one to run SLI )
HDD: WD Raptor 150 GB SATA Hard Drive ( for booting and for all my software ) and a WD SATA 2 500 GB for storage
RAM: Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(2 x 2GB) ddr2 800mhz

i know i have to be on a 64 bits OS ( cause im using 4gigs on ram ) but im trying to decide which one ?
i have been researching this for a lot of time, and still i cant decide.....i have been reading that vista lets the government spy on your pc, that uses a lot of ram when its on idle, compatibility issues, not stable.........and about xp 64 bits, we all know that xp is already the past and that we gotta move to new things but i like to hear from the experts on this community what do you think ? do you have any recommendations, any thoughts ?

thanks in advance for all your help

Answer:xp 64 bits or vista 64 bits ?

You say you play games a lot. I'd say go with Vista because of that. DirectX10 is going to be mainstream before long.

Please forgive me if this had been posted before. I searched here and didn't learn enough in the previous posts. So here is my inquiry.

Been using Vista Home Premium for a while with no problem. However, I now have a copy of retail Ultimate 64 bits. I read that there are many benefits besides being able to see all 4Gig of rams with 64 bits. As the process only be done by clean installation, I would like to know how, if I can at all, to back up all the stuffs that I've been using so I can "restore" after I switch to 64 bit instead of redo everything. I'll be greatly appreciate if you can explain to me step by step.

My US Robotic dial up modem only has 32 bits driver; please suggest a good one that work with 64 bits.

Please let me know anything significant I need to know before I switch?

Thank you!

Answer:Need help in 32 bits to 64 bits switching...

Hi Bruce2,

Welcome to the forum.

Since you are switching from 32 bit to 64 bit Vista, the safest route is to just backup any files you do not want to lose to a CD/DVD. You can just transfer them back when done installing the 64 bit. There is just to much of a difference to do a complete backup and restore between the two bit version with your programs and installers.

If you would like to make it even easier, have all of your programs and 64 bit drivers installation files on DVD as well.

The drivers from Acer website are all 64 bits. I have tried it 2 times, the second time doing a clean install, but now I can't return to Windows 8.1 because it doesn't show the option anymore. So, how can I upgrade from Windows 10 32 bits to Windows 64 bits? Thanks in advance, John Lewis

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

It is almost impossible to spot trends from a single DMP file so if you have more than one please upload them. If you only have one please wait until the computer crashes again then upload both.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

HI everyone,

I wanted to see if you can help me with a problem that I have with my computer. First the specs of my computer:

core i5, intel dh55hc motherboard
2 modules of 4gb ram, corsair model CMX4GX3M1A1333C9
windows 7 ultimate 64 bits

I'm getting some bsod in random times, although now I see that there is a pattern... for example:

after a day of full working let's say 14-16 hours, then I start to close all the windows and when I'm going to shutdown then appears a bsod... so, it seems that it's in that point when I'm going to shut down...

I run a memtest with many hours let's say 12 hours and nothing so I'm not sure if it's a memory related problem...

Here is the latest minidump file, I hope you can help me

As for third party options, other members may be able to guide you on that.

What exactly is Background Intelligent Transfer Service? What does it do? I disabled it in services, but now windows update wants me to reenable it. I'm just curious what's the point? Thanks.

Answer:Windows XP Question - BITS

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) transfers files (downloads or uploads) between a client and server and provides progress information related to the transfers.

Hi, I have a Travelmate B115-M and I have upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10. The problem is that it automatically upgraded to Windows 10 32 bits.

You must do a clean install of 64bit. You cannot make a 32bit into a 64bit. You will have to format and reinstall.

Answer:BSOD - WINDOWS 7, 64 bits

This points (most likely) to your hard drive.
Try these free tests first:

Quote:

CHKDSK /R /F:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

Windows 8/8.1

Hi

I check for my updates periodically which are set to 'check for updates but let me decide' and
I also turn on 'Windows Update & Bits' in 'services.msc' which I turn off after every check so I have
nothing running in the background, however, if I recheck a short time after I find that both services have
been re-activated again. After several attempts I manage to turn them off.
Anyone know why, and how to control this??

Cheers

I have probably installed some new software, but have no idea how to solve this. Does anyone have a clue?

The message I get (in Dutch, but I will try to translate)

C:\windows\systems32\autoexec.nt. Het systeembestand is niet geschikt voor MS-DOS en Microsoft Windows-toepassingen, Kies sluiten om de toepassing af te sluiten

C:\windows\systems32\autoexec.nt. The systemfile does not support MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose close to exit this application.

I've have tried to download the latest update from Windows, but I get the error code of 0x80246008, meaning the BITS wasn't on. After trying to turn on the BITS, I get the error code 998. I have looked on some sites and I can't seem to find the answer. If there is an easy way to fix it and that I can get updating again, that would be great.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Hello,

I'm planning on getting Windows 7 64 bits. I was wondering if I can install this on a non-64 bits processor? (the rig in my signature)
A tech told me I could run it without a problem, but he is also a seller for a large business equipment so I think he's more of a seller than a computer expert.

And if I can't, any suggestions on a good 64 bits processor? I don't especially need a beast, I'm infographist and I need to run the Adobe Suite CS5.

Thanks!
