Preferred Solution: Erased sound controller, no sound from CD or DVD played

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Erased sound controller, no sound from CD or DVD played

"I erased the axsaki scsi controller"That has nothing to do with sound, it's the SCSI controller:http://computer.howstuffworks.com/s...You must have done something else besides just erasing that. Besides, you didn't "erase" it, it will more than likely come back when you reboot. Whether you actually need it for anything is something else.Try reinstalling your sound drivers.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 (3147, Mid 2014) makes crackling sound whenever sound is played

lelouIt's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

I have a toshiba a205-s5800, it is just out of warranty. all of a sudden the sound has stopped working. I have reinstalled the sound driver, still no luck.

Answer:No sound played trough speakers but sound works from headphones

If you are not able to listening any sound even error beep, then it seems hardware fault inside your system.
It may speaker goes faulty. You should consult your computer hardware vendor.

Dear readers,

I'm the owner of a toshiba l665D and there is a problem.
Every time i have to use something involving
sound it sounds rubbish.
The sound isn't played smoothly there are pauses and there is a big cracking
sound sometimes in it.

This is not because of the speakers, I have also tright it through the headphone tube.
Could this possilybe because of a damaged soundcard.

It's sound really rubbish and the laptop isn't even 2 years old yet.

What could it be?

Answer:Satellite L665D - sound isn't played smoothly - crackling sound

Hi

I think this is not related to faulty sound card but due to old iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver.

I found an thread about very similar issue.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=60231

Update of the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to version V10.1.0.1008 or higher should solve this problem.

I recommend trying this out!

All sound from the PC fades out over the course of ~2 seconds only to instantly return when a new (loudish) sound is made. It almost feels as if the headset is raising its baseline of noise after a bit and things the normal sounds are just nothing until a loud sound comes in and makes it realize there is still noise to be played. Best way to describe it is having poor thresholds set to a VoIP voice detection, you make a loud noise and it will kick on and detect lower noise for a bit before shutting down again.

Headset is a Skullcandy PLYR2 Wireless Headset USB plugged directly into MoBo

I have not had this issue happen when using my monitor's speakers (HDMI into GPU)

There is no sound card on this PC, and I've not been able to find any sort of software to control the audio processor outside of the windows playback enhancements.

Windows Communications volume attenuation is set to do nothing, VoIP programs are off as well so as to rule out those. No enhancements are on in windows playback enhancements.

Answer:All sound fades until loud sound is played USB headset.

When you use a USB connected headphone (wired or wireless) you do not use the PC's sound card, The USB system does the conversion from digital to analog audio. Thus the problem is somewhere in the USB headset system.

Hi
Its bit complicated.
I have 5 year old Compaq Pressario V3611AU notebook with AMD Atholon X2 TK-55 processor. Was using Windows XP and everything working fine. Recently I upgraded RAM to 2GB & processor was changed to AMD Turion(tm) X2 TL-60 2.00Ghz. I installed windows 7 and everything worked fine for a week with no issues.
Recently when switched on it showed red cross on volume device. When I checked in device manager the sound video & Game controller has disappeared.

I checked most of the site but unable to install the exact driver.

Even I tried to add with Legacy Drivers in Device Manager but failed to install the correct driver.Even I re installed my Windows 7 but same issue. When I click on Volume device to fix the issue end up with Hardware Changes has been effected.

Please help me whether it is an issue with Sound Card or with driver.

Greetins all,

Is there a way for me to decide where what sound is played?

I got it setup now that all communication is played though headset but all other sounds are sent out though the HDMI cable to my sound system.

I know some games and application allow me to select under options usually where I want the sound to be sent. But for most games and applicaiton they will only be played out though the default sound device.

Now I would prefere that game sounds would come out though the headset as well.

Or anyone knows if there is a program where I can select where to play what?

Have Windows XP SP2, Outlook Express 6

Quite some time ago my Outlook Express stopped playing the chiming sort of a sound as it used to when a new e-mail arrived or when I opened e-mail and it finished loading the mail into my "In Box."

Can live without it, but it would be nice to get it working again.

Any ideas??

Lately, when i go into or out of hibernation, Windows XP (fully patched) plays a sound--specifically, the chimes file. If I delete the wav file, Windows just plays another sound. This is something I can obviously live with--but there's no place in the sounds control panel function that specifically deals with these events. I'd like them to be silent, like they used to be. Any thoughts?

Best,
Mark

Answer:Sound played going into/out of hibernation

This is a long shot, but you might try selecting a different Sound Scheme, reboot,
then go back and select your original scheme and see if that reinstates your original settings.

I'd also look at whether or not you have installed any new software or updated a driver.

My computer has no problem on startup. The problem only occurs if a lot of sound is played. I hear the intro windows sound fine and any music i may play but it will freeze the computer and start looping any sound being played after about 10 minutes. It also seems to be freezing before it can finalize the installation of Warcraft III.

I also have a soundblaster live, but i would get the same problem only windows would freeze either way - sound played or not. It would also seem to freeze on startup when using the soundblaster as well.

At the moment i'm using onboard sound. I have tried disabling onboard sound and installing the sound blaster as well.

There seem to be no conflicts with my devices.

I'm guessing it could be the motherboard, but i'm not sure how it would be failing in this way.

I've also tried new installations of xp, a new power supply, new hd, and other configurations.

Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:When sound is played, computer freezes.

Hi'

This is a strange one, does the computer freeze when doing anything else and does it do it if the speakers are turned off or unpluged?

How are your temps? Have you tested the ram?

I used to have an issue where a WAV audio file, such as music, played through windows media player would sound compressed, where heavier parts were noticeably dampened. It was quite obvious. For this reason, I used VLC as my player and things were fine, with no compression.

However, recently I've noticed that VLC now has the same behavior. I don't know if it was part of a recent update (2.1?) or not. I know it's not my audio card or driver, as I can fire up Cubase and everything plays just fine.

Any thoughts? How can I turn off compression at least in VLC? Thanks.

I did a reinstall of Windows 10 on my laptop last week. All went well and the first days I did not run into any problems. Two days ago however, my sound is disabled whenever a sound is played. Here's what happens: when I reboot my laptop I can see the speaker icon in my sys tray with the soundwaves. When I play a sound, I can hear the sound for about 1 second and then the sound is disabled. The speaker icon in the sys tray changes to an icon with no soundwaves but with a cross next to it. Whenever I click on the icon, I can set my audio level and can enable the sound again. But when I play another sound, the problems reoccurs. I already uninstalled the audio (Realtek HD) driver by uninstalling the Realtek software and uninstalling the driver, and then reinstalling it but to no avail. I also ran the Audio Trouble Shooter but to no avail either.Anyone has any suggestions?

CD's, mp3's, web-radio shows, videos, web-tv, anything i play. It makes all my music seem like it's recorded by the smurfs.

I cannot imagine what makes this happen and i thought i might try here before i try reinstalling Windows 2000 on the PC. Has anyone ever had the same problem and know of a solution? Please help me!

This is a very strange and very creepy problem and I wasn't sure which forum to post this in.
My webcam is normally plugged in 100% of the time. For last few weeks I haven't used it because it fell down behind my desk and I was too lazy to get it again.

I am skyping with my friend right now and I unplugged my webcam to pull it back around blah blah you know cable problems..eventually put it in position on my monitor and plugged it back in...

And then something extremely scary happened. At first a split second of a song played (I have no music or sound playing software open and it was not a file I have on my harddrive to my knowledge). Then I heard a male voice say "kitty" ???????????? another fraction of a sound file I do not have on my computer.
Extremely freaked out I unplugged my webcam within seconds. I waited again and plugged it back in again and then the song played again for a few more seconds (oh and it's the ****ing Scooby Doo theme song by the way). I did this one more time and it did it again, I closed every window I had open (including firefox) and now it doesn't do it anymore. My webcam works fine but I am extremely concerned I have been hacked? I'm running a scan right now with Avast.

Please help I'm so creeped out

Answer:Random sound played with webcam being plugged in

Check something please:
Right click volume icon on notification area, go to Sounds (can also open from control panel).
Scroll down to "Device connect" and Test. See if that song will play.

Also run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I recently got an external hard drive and a usb 3.0 adapter card. I also had to get a molex to sata power adapter cable for the card. Everything was fine for a few days, but now everytime I wake the computer from sleeping, it plays the sound indicating a device has been disconnected. Unplugging the drive doesn't stop the sound and jiggling the (somewhat loose) adapter cable while everything is plugged in and running doesn't seem to change anything either, but unplugging the adapter card from the power supply does stop the sound from playing. The sound isn't that annoying and there doesn't seem to be any issue with performance, but what I'm wondering is could this become a problem for the drive in the future?

But why is it that you only want to playback individual blu_ray files?

They usually happen at about a 1 second rate. The computer starts slowing down ONLY when anything with audio is being played. The sound gets all distorted and the mouse starts moving around at like 5fps instead of its super smooth rate. For instance, it takes about 5 seconds from the windows welcome screen to simply showing my desktop picture. This happens for EVERYTHING that plays sound on my computer, whether it be youtube, or iTunes, Counterstrike, even emulators like ZSNES slow down. Some of these aren't insanely slowed down but the ones that take a bit more CPU to process like CS:S would majorly slow it down, or fullscreening a video or something may slow down the playback rate.

A few days ago I had to perform a cmd scan to have my computer actually work windows explorer after not being able to locate some files (error 127 i think regularly came up) and sound before then among all programs worked.

I have performed multiple cmd scans, update or attempted to locate many related driver updates amongst all recent windows updates. I have reinstalled my sound drivers and still this problem occurs.

since then sound has worked in the majority of programs such as browsers or video sources from them and system sounds, itunes audio originally didn't work either but I think I started windows sound based program in regedit which then fixed that. However other files such as MKV video files sounds do not play or are even listed up in the media player in the windows mixer, I have checked within multiple similar types of these programs internal setups and still no avail from Visual novels to mobile game emulators to no avail. however ordinary games still work within programs such as steam.

I assume windows is unable to recognize sound from more uncommon file types from a specific windows program from before becoming disabled, yet I have no clue how to fix this and especially not in some cover all method unlike what I had to do for my itunes fix.

Answer:Sound within specific programs are not recognised by mixer or played

Based on your original problem, I suspect a complete reinstall will ultimately be needed to fix everything.

Why does my media player open up when I try to play a sound in a web page? How do I stop it from doing this?

Answer:Media player opens when sound is played in a web page

What kind of files are you trying to play? Something's got to fire up to play them and it looks like your Windows Media Player is currently set up to be the default player for that type of file.

To change that, open Media Player's Options (under Tools in Media Player) and go to the File Types tab. Remove the check from any or all of the files types you want to play with different program, click OK.

Then in the program you'd rather use, find its Options or Preferences and make sure those files types are included in the list of files you want it to play by default.

Hi, need some help trying to figure out why my Ipod sounds lousy when played through my Toshiba laptop (w/ Windows XP). Sounds fine when played alone-sound on computer is also ok when playing a CD/DVD. It sounds fine when you first start for about 60 secs, but then the sound quality deteriorates; there's static, and the overall sound is best described as something like helicopter blades in the background. Weird. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

After I installed Windows 7 alongside Vista, I noticed that when I was on 7 I would get a lot of static coming from my speakers and earphones whenever I played a song or a video. I switched back to Vista and noticed that the sound didn't have any static. Recently I replaced Vista with Windows 7 because I wanted to only have one OS since I only used Windows 7, I noticed that on the new install it didn't have static. So on my old install of 7 had static and on my new install of 7 didn't have static. I already installed sound card drivers and that didn't fix it either. Is there anyway to fix this or do I just have to migrate everything from my old install to my new install.

Answer:Lots of static when sound is played after installing Windows 7

I would just migrate every thing to the new install, obviously there is something that is causing that to happen that is not easily fixed it could be a lot of things causing it, such as the sound drivers weren't installed right or there was some other install error or software error.

Hello. I want to ask a question about my problem. I tried to search about my case, but it's seems I'm the only one in this world who has problem like that.

I have Asus P2W DH Deluxe motherboard with buit-in Realtek audio card (ALC882). My 5.1 audiosystem is connected via analog outputs.

A problem is:
When I start PC with Windows 7 Ultimate, first application that plays sound make huge noise to my audiosystem. In background of this noise I can hear quiet sound that must been played. After first noise played the other sounds plays properly. (For example - if you use sound themes - noise will play then your system is starting). Except only one application (only one that I recognize) that doesn't play noise - small mediaplayer AmpView.
This noise plays only with Realtek (I try to use my old SB Live - no noise at all, but SB Live supports only 4.0 audio). And this noise plays only when I use 5.1 mode in realtek (in 2.0 or 7.1 mode - no noise, but I don't want to use 2.0 and I don't have 7.1 audiosystem).
I tried to use different drivers - 2.37 and 2.40. Problem is still exist.
When I used this hardware with Win XP I doesn't have this problem.

Is there someone who has problem like mine? What way I can solve this?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Audio noise when first sound is played built-in Realtek

I may have been experiencing a somewhat similar problem. For example, if I play some music and after that leave the computer idle for a couple of minutes, the next time I do anything to produce a sound: starting playback of another song, opening a folder, emptying the recycle bin-I can hear a short, cracking sound just before the sound corresponding to my action.
I am also experiencing a constant sound from the TV card stream in the background, but I can only hear it when I turn up my speakers pretty loud without producing any other sound...
I never managed to find out what's causing this.

I've got an ASRock motherboard and am using it's onboard sound card (C Media 6501). This morning it's suddenly decided that whenever a sound is played, be it the beep when i've got new mail, when someone signs in on msn, when playing mp3's, or when listening to online streaming radio, all i hear is constant hissing from my speakers which stops the moment i stop the audio.

I've tried installing the latest drivers. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and using the Windows legacy ones. System restore is not an option as i have it turned off. I'm stumped as to what else i can try.

Anyone any ideas please?

I have a Satellite A100 PSAA9C-TA902C. (It's my 5th Toshiba laptop)

My last one was able to do the following: play music written in a music writer, which is thru the midi mixer, and record as a wav through Blaze Audio. On the last machine, A25-S279, I was able to select the SW Synth from the input list. This mixer is not available for selection on the A100.

I contacted Realtek. Was told this feature is not supported by Realtek for the ALC861 Audio Device installed in the A100.
The lastest driver has been installed.

It's very hard to believe that a Media edition machine has such restrictions. I've never encountered this problem on a computer before.

What I want is to record from any device. But, the system won't let me select SW Synth. It exists on the Output list. Not the Input.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to record sound played through the mixer to a wav recorder?

Stephen

Try to use the ?All Sound Recorder XP? I don?t know the latest version but try version 2.28. it?s a shareware license and you could test it.

Recently, for no apparent reason, my avi and MPEG video files in Vista stopped playing audio. I first noticed it in Ulead VS11, I then tried to play them in Windows Media Player and DivX player and still no sound.

When you play them in Windows Media Player, it tells you there is a codec missing (C00D10D1) but I am sent on a wild goose chase. I have tried installing K-Lite and the Windows Vista Codec Pack but neither solve the problem.

All these files played fine with audio up until recently and I can still play MP3 and Windows system sounds and DVDs. I have also recently learned that both Quicktime and Winamp will play them with sound and if I go over to my wife's profile, they play fine there on Windows Media Player.

I used GSpot to identify a problem but all it says is that it uses PCM Audio and no Codec is necessary.

Going back to Ulead Video Studio 11 - I found that when playing the entire Project (as opposed to just the video clip) I also hear sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers all,

Problem is as stated in the thread; I downloaded, untar'd and set the theme up today. I know it's specifically the "Close Window" sound since it's unique from the others. I'm referring to the following actions in particular (there may be more things I could do to proc it, but I haven't checked yet)...
Opening a Program
Opening a Folder in Windows Explorer
Starting a new Windows Explorer Session
Closing a Window (expected function)
Closing a Windows Explorer Session (expected function)
Those not followed by (expected function) have a different sound assigned to them, although the Close Window sound plays anyways. Not always immediately after the action is performed, either - there can be anywhere from a 1 to 15 second delay before the .wav plays.

The sounds are located in C:\Windows\Media\AltimitOS\ with AltimitOS being a custom folder I copied in. I originally untar'd everything to the desktop, then created and moved everything into the folder and tried running the theme from there. I've made sure all file paths are leading to the \Media\AltimitOS folder.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers,
-Kalts.

Answer:Custom Sound Scheme: Close Window Sound Plays Instead of Chosen Sound

As this is a 3rd party app, it sounds like it is buggy. Does the Windows schemes work OK? If so, that puts it back to the buggy app.

I would go back to the app developer for assistance.

I had a very infected laptop running XP. Before performing major surgery to remove the viruses I noted that there was no sound on start up or shut down. I checked to see if the cd-rom would play a music cd. Media player showed the cd running but no music. I checked volume/enabled etc.
I believe the culprit is the the via ac'97 audio controller.
I checked and the hardware shows to be operating correctly
I am wondering if I should uninstall and reinstall? If so how do I do that with no recovery disc?
I also need a source for the drivers.
Where could I go in the system files to see if there is really a driver?
Thanks for any help,

I have good sound with other speakers on this desktop, but I wanted to save some workspace on my desk, so I recently got a new AX510 sound bar and attached it onto a Dell 2208WFP monitor, one of the monitors listed for that soundbar.  It powers up via the AC port built in to the monitor, just like it should, and I've correctly connected the audio cable on the soundbar audio output on my desktop.  But there's no sound at all.  I did get a static "pop" once... but no other sound.
So I am trying to figure out whether the sound bar is defective, or if this is possibly a Windows 10 issue, as I've read a few odd posts on the internet about people suddenly finding that previously working sound bars don't work in Windows 10.... or some other incompatibility (my desktop is a Studio XPS 8100, Windows 10).  I realize all of my equipment is not the latest, but it's all been in great working condition and the one new addition is the sound bar... I did plug my old speakers back in again, and they still work just fine.
I was thinking I can test the sound bar by connecting it to another computer at work (tomorrow) that's running Windows 7.  to determine if it's a Windows 10 issue -- or if it just doesn't work at all -- but would that be a definitive test it's not a Dell computer?  Any other ways to diagnose the problem and pin it down?  I can conceivably still return the sound bar if I determine it's defect... Answer:Getting no sound from sound bar AX510 with Studio XPS 8100 (Is this a Windows 10 issue or is it the sound bar?)

DELL C730C SoundBar Speakers AX510  is an analog sound bar that needs a AS510PA power supply if it cant get power from the monitor.

Windows 7 drivers are often required to be reinstalled and needed to get sound working again after update to 8 or 10.
It also has a volume knob with a switch that must be turned on. When you do that there is a white lite in the center of the sound bar that indicates power is on.

The analog out goes to the GREEN outlet.

I have read a bunch of threads on multiple sites and have found some similar problems but nothing exactly like this.  Here is what doesn't work:-The windows sound on my computer does not work.  -I can go into the sound setup where you pick which sounds for different tasks (like windows startup), and the play button to preview that sound is "grayed" out.-Sound scheme is blank.  If I set the sound scheme to the "Windows Default", click apply and then click ok to close that menu, then go back into the sound scheme menu it is blank again.-There is no volume icon in my tray even though in the sound menu, it is clicked to be there.-No sound at all in IE.Here is what does work:-All other sound works fine such as playing the sound files for windows like  "Ding.wav" using windows media player.  Playing mp3's - no problem.  - Even if I go to the "Speech" icon in the control panel and listen to "Microsoft Sam" say "You have selected Microsoft Sam as the computer's default voice."  That works fine.I have downloaded new drivers for my sound device.  I have also ran the "DXDIAG" and all the sound test on there worked fine.Hope someone can help.Tired and rambling,Karl

Hi all,

I am trying to get sound back to my friends laptop and having trouble.
I have tried everything but in device manager, the exclamation marks are next to the Audio and the BUS Controller sections. I tried to get the bus host controller but it kept saying cannot install it!! is this stopping me getting sound back? His laptop is model MD7276-MICROSTAR FID2030.(chipset sis650)
I did the add hardware and update drivers but still nothing-how can i find the sound drivers etc

Thanks for the help

Pete

Answer:Bus Host Controller and Sound

If the correct drivers are on the laptop, from device manager highlight each item with an exclamation mark and remove them, reboot and all will work.
If these are not the correct drivers then you will need to download them either from the laptop manufacturer or from the SiS site.

You should be able to find out exact chipset by downloading either SiSift Sandra or Fresh diagnose. Search on google for these

This may be easy for some of you pros out there.

i am using a mame emulator to play games.

i have a propad6 controller and when i play games with it the direction pulls to the left when i have the sound on for that game(sound is MIDAS in properties) but when i do not use the sound it works just fine.

Also when i use the keyboard instead of the game controller (game controller is off in options) the sound works and there is no directional pull.

What could be making the direction pull to the left while having the sound on when using a game controller?

PS:all of my devices say working properly with no conflicts, i have the newest driver for the sound downloaded.

Thanks!

Answer:controller pulls with sound on?

That is WEIRD.

Try posting in "Games". Maybe someone can figure that out.

I thought migration from Vista to 8.1 had gone too smoothly. Sound works after restoring defaults in Creative Diagnostics but on close down error message " VolPanlu.exe - Application Error The instruction at 0x6fdcf2ae referenced memory at 0x02439aa4. The memory could not be read. OK." I re-installed Creative SB X-Fi Extreme Music software and updated to the 8.1 driver. How can I get the pc to remember to save the sound settings please?

Answer:Sound then no sound, vista to 8.1, VolPanlu (Sound Blaster) problem

The solution via Creative:
Delete all Creative software (I used Revo uninstaller)
Run a registry cleaner (I used CCleaner)
Install the Windows 8.1 driver.
Sound was still being lost on shutdown but the answer was to put the pc into sleep mode, wake up, then sound remains stable in Entertainment Mode. I have no idea why that prevents default to Game Mode which caused loss of sound.

I'm getting alot of skipping/sound errors with my sound card. I recently got a 160gig western digital drive. To use all 160gig i had to install a controller card but ever since the install i've been getting the sound errors. There are no problems in the device manager and the sound blaster live has its own IRQ(#16). I also disabled the onboard sound and installed the soundblaster by its self, still messes up. The messups happen mostly when the computer is accessing the hard drive which makes me think its something to do with the controller card. I have the Promise Ultra ATA 100 TX2 controller card. Anyone know how to fix this?

whenever I plug my Xbox 360 controller into my PC, my sound quality is very strangely altered everything sounds distorted and slightly metallic I have tried everything I can possibly think of to fix this. I've updated every driver in my computer(CPU, GPU, chipset, audio) and it has not worked at all. I downloaded the proper Xbox 360 drivers for Microsoft and the controller installs fine and it even works fine the only thing wrong is the sound quality just gets horribly distorted. I've searched with Google and other engines for over an hour but with no results. The closest description to my problem I could find at all was on some Amazon product review page, the author of that review said he lost all sound when he plugged the controller in, but unfortunately there is no way to contact him as there is no information provided. On a side note I have another PC with almost the same parts and specs as my new PC(the one I use) just older or lower powered versions, and the controller works fine and does not destroy the sound. Some additional info, I use USB sound components I have a Plantronics GamecomPro1 (DSP-500) headset, and Harmon/Kardon sound sticks. both of these are USB. I also tried plugging an ordinary sound device into my onboard sound and they all have the exact same sound problem. I've contacted Microsoft and I'm still waiting for feedback from them. If anyone has any idea, or can think of any solution to the problem I'd appreciate it very much. Computer specs ... Read more

Hello all,

I did try to search for this one and seem to only find the, "No Audio Device" error, but mine also includes not having a sound controller (like by brand name) listed in Device Manager.

I have an ASUS M2N-E SLI motherboard with onboard sound running XP Home.

Device Manager says:
- Sound, Video and Game Controllers
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

"Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" says "No Audio Device"

I have tried the following so far:
Checked BIOS - Onboard Sound is Enabled
Checked BIOS - USB controller is Enabled
Reloaded C-Media CM6501 Audio Driver (though with no sound controller found in device manager, seemed a little fruitless).

The USB Ports in the back will allow my MP3 player to access Windows Media player, but nothing else works with USB (like Magic Jack).

The obvious thing is a registry system error, especially since we had to reload XP (Home) recently after a crash. But I don't remember having to do anything special before to get the audio working when I originally built this PC and loaded XP Home.

Thanks...

I'm assuming Windows XP....
The system drivers are available HERE. However, it's strange that they don't have the sound driver listed. So download and install the motherboard driver (also known as the "chipset" driver) and restart the PC after it's installed. Your PC has ADI 1981 on board audio according to the VPRmatrix web site's spec page. You can download a driver for that sound chip from Intel, just click HERE.

Let us know if this works or not.... good luck!

Then download the Intel 845GL Video Driver from eMachines, unzip it and install from "setup.exe" second. (Reboot if necessary.)
File: http://downloads.emachines.com/drivers/video/845GL_VGA_6.13.10.3264.zip

Then last, download the Realtek AC'97 Audio Driver from eMachines. Unzip the file and install from "Drivers\Audio\Patch\269601USA8.EXE" first. (Reboot if necessary.) Then install "Drivers\Audio\Setup.exe" last.

Does anyone know or use an Audio Controller/Manager?

I'm not sure what this type of software would commonly be named under but I thought Audio (Sound) Controller-Manager would be close. The problem is that the 'volume control' program defaulted on windows xp is not sufficient - it doesn't provide any detail information, such as the Hz or kHz that the "volume" was set to. It doesn't have any numbers and I need numbers.

Someone who does music-related activities would know a freeware for this kind of program.

I can't get my sound to work, and all I hear is an annoying beep everytime my computer does something it thinks is significant (getting messages, alerts, pressing the X key when nothing on my desktop starts with a X)

the sound chip I have is called "AC'97 Audio Controller" or something similar to that.

I won't go into detail about why I reformatted my hard drive because it doesn't really matter. I have reformatted my hard drive several times, and this problem about my sound drivers always arises and somehow each time Windows' "Add New Hardware Wizard" works and I never remember how I fix it, but it won't work this time. I've installed what I THINK are the drivers, but they didn't work.

When I got my computer, I had three computers made, all by the same company, in the same building, same computer parts, etc. For some reasion SiSoftware Sandra Lite XI wouldn't work on my computer so I ran in on one of the other computers (mine has another HDD, more ram and a different grapics card but besides that, the computers are exactly alike) and and got this for its mainboard:

Answer:AC'97 Audio Controller sound drivers!

You may find a Realtek AC97 driver on your motherboard CD. Failing that, if you go to Windows Update it will probably offer you one as an optional hardware update. Personally, I don't use any hardware update offered by Windows and you'll get the real McCoy if, instead, you can go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and download it from there.
The motherboard CD usually warns that Direct X should be installed before the sound drivers are.

After upgrading to Windows 10, the max sound on my laptop was really low, and after a while, wouldn't play any sound in video games.  So I went to Device Manager in Control Panel, found that I had 2 drivers in the Sound, video and game controllers section, one for webcam and the other I cant remember the name, I uninstalled the latter, and then could not find it in recycle bin or on my computer to reinstall it.  Now I get no audio on anything, saved videos, videos and songs online, or in my video games. What steps do I need to take to get sound back, and have sound be louder than it was after I upgraded operating systems?

Answer:No sound, accidentally deleted my audio controller

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to reinstall the W10 audio driver from your notebook's support and driver page... Install the driver and restart the PC afterward. This package contains the driver that enables the IDTHigh-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that arerunning a supported operating system. File name: sp63555.exe

Hello, I just got the "No Audio Device is installed" message for the second time, and my Sound, Video, and Game Controller section on my Device Manager pulled a Houdini on me. I can't remember what i did last time to fix it, but I've tried everything that people have suggested on multiple threads concerning this. It was literally working last night as i was listening to music, today when i turned it on it said i had no audio output installed. I have an HP Pavillion dv9500. I upgraded from Vista Home 32-bit to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but never had a real problem until now. I tried to find the driver on the HP site, but the driver didn't work. I've even tried to restore my computer to a week ago when i got a system update, but it keeps failing. There is also an exclamation mark on the Coprocessor under Other Devices in the device manager, but i have no idea what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Missing my Sound, Video, and Game Controller

Hi, I've had sound issues for the last month or so and about two weeks ago, I lost the 'Sound, Video and Games Controller' icon, from the 'Device Manager' section so I had no way to get access to anything.

My Product Spec:

HP Pavilion dv9705ea Entertainment Notebook PC
AMD Turion 64x2 Processor, Nvidia Graphics Card, Conexant HD SmartAudio 221, Old OS was Windows Vista, Upgraded to Windows 7 around14-16 months ago. Started having sound issues after a few updates from windows (guess the OS's were getting messed up - whatever method of upgrade is done it will always caus issues in the future.)
Updated all drivers from HP for Vista and Vista x64 (in compatibility mode) and Windows 7 and probably around 10-15 other UAA drivers... none of it worked.

Prior to losing the icon completely, I had managed to get everything up and running after I updated all the drivers, from the HP website. I basically did all that I was told after browsing the internet for 2 weeks straight.

Solution's simple: Download the driver for your PROCESSOR. whether it is Intel or AMD and it starts working.... unfortunately... because of so many upgrades and changes none of the solutions last.... I am trying to make a system image/ backup/ reboot CD so I don't have to waste my time thinking that Hp and/or Windows will ever get out a solution for this Worldwide issue.

Shame. I do hope this gets posted.

Saves a lot of money, unfortunately there is always a hassle because with electronics, everything being c... Read more

Hello and thank you already if you are reading this.

My problem is that:

-I cannot find Sound, video and game controller in device manager and have no sound.

Soundcard: Realtek ALC883

Here Is what I have done:
-Installed w7 64 today, C all clean.
-Downloaded and installed realtek drivers for my motherboard MSI K9VGM-V from here:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=260
MSI says they are w7 compatible. The driver installs normally.

What I get:
-Typical red cross on speakers in systemtray
- No sound, video and game controller in device manager.

What I attempted:
-Tried to disable 'azalian' (or what it was called) in BIOS which is supposedly the 'sound control'. No change in w7, -set to auto again afterwards. CMOS was flashed recently.
-Tried to install various drivers among these: r2.48 HD audio w7 64 from realtek.
-Did of course try to search for PnP in device manager many times.

What I know:
The onboard sound card worked fine before when running on a vista64 install. Everything else on the computer is running smoothly after install.

Notes:
When uninstalling prior to attempting installation of alternative drivers, I receive the message: "unable to remove files" or similar. I have searched registry for 'realtek' but only find 'history files' from winrar. ...or something like that.

What I don't know:
On the MSI driver page there is listed a '4in1' driver? Is this something... Read more

Answer:Sound, video and game controller missing - Now what?

I would just install the latest Realtek driver from their website. Their drivers can be finicky at times which is why I tell everyone I know that wants decent sound to get a dedicated card made by Sound Blaster, HT | OMEGA or M-AUDIO. Even if you're buying a cheaper one ($30-40) you'll still end up with way better sound than Realtek and you'll have less problems when it comes to drivers.

Anyway, if you don't want to replace the onboard sound you can just install the latest drivers from Realtek.com.tw and hopefully that will fix your problems.

Hi group . I am at a loss here so suggestions welcome . Had a new os installed (xp ) and now i have no sound . Device Manager initially showed no sound device , drivers . After installing new drivers dm now shows these devices but i still have no sound . Audio shows in system tray and speakers get power . All audio codecs show as functional . Only thing i question is reference in " other devices " to a video controller conflict . Since i don't play games maybe i wouldn't notice that  . Could this be the possibile source of a lack of sound ? Also can't find any listing for a video controller when using Everest or SIW utilities  unless thats what they call a video adapter . Would these be one and the same ? MB is a Biostar and sound/video are integerated . Not sure what to do next .

Answer:Sound Issues/Video Controller Conflict ?

Re-install the MBoard drivers...this will not hurt anything and will probably resolve the issue...They will be on the CD labeled Drivers that shipped with the machine.

Answer:problem with multimedia sound controller driver

Hi, and welcome to TSF.

Thanks for the comprehensive system specs, most don't even think to post any, but unfortunately, this doesn't tell us anything about the status of your drivers.

Click start >> right click my computer, >> select manage, >> click device manager in the left pane and in the list displayed in the right pane tell me if you see any exclamation marks or yellow question marks.

Hi, I'e read through this forum and tried installing the audio drivers over and over again, I've also tried installing the chipset drivers but the message I get up is

'the intel chipset..... requires a supported chipset platform running on a supported operating system'

I'm running XP2 but this laptop was 2nd hand and didn't get the laptops drivers disc or XP so I cannot reformat and start from scratch.

There's 2 devices in yellow on the device manager - Multimedia audio controller and PCI modem, any help would be gratefully apreciated :-D

Cheers

I've read & tried as many threads as I can take.  My eyes burn.  I have no sound, no m-media audio controller.  Device manager has exclamation/questoin marks beside soundmax, sm bus control, mm audio controller.  I have the dell optiplex drivers resource cd, have unistalled and reinstalled same.  xp serv pack2 professional, installed all drivers after service pack2.   I completely reinstalled all system, office, windows, etc on gx520 then added missing components but nothing.  I've redone the gx270 & gx280 in the exact same manner with no sound problems.  Where did I go wrong?Message Edited by Hoostompa on 09-01-2007 06:19 PM

Answer:No sound or multimedia audio controller gx520

First, the Workstation/Optiplex section if for support with your Optiplex.  This Desktop section is for consumer Dimension and Inspiron Desktop system support. However, on these systems there are "chipset drivers" that define what is on the motherboard and if there is a reinstall, the chipset drivers must be installed before installing device drivers such as the sound.  e.g. (1) Install the operating system (2) install chipset drivers (3) install device drivers.  It may be the same on the Optiplex.+

Answer:No Sound - unknown Multimedia Audio Controller

Hi NIK welcome to techspot

A few questions, has the sound worked previous, is this a reinstall on a known working board, is it an install on a new board.??

If its a reinstall, then its possible that windows may be slightly corrupt and if you can back up anything needed and reinstall again, but first download a Hard drive checking program from the manufacturers website and ensure the drive is clean and healthy.

If its a new board then the sound chip may be faulty, if its under guarantee take it back to the supplier, they may have a help department that can test the board with a good working version of XP/2K and decide if its faulty or not, some make a charge for this service which is refunded if the board tests faulty,

Regards

I have read much of the similar problems that others have had. Heres my deal. I recently had a hard drive crap on me, so i completely had to resinstall windows xp pro on a brand new Maxor HD. All was well untill i noticed no sound when i opened my game (coh). I tried almost all of the solutions here that seamed to work for others. Messing with BIOS settings, deleting the Audio controller and then restarting my PC. i have also waited long amounts of times getting the wizard to find the drivers on my Win CD. Nothing seems to work. I have an onboard sound card on an Aopen i845 somthing or other (I dont know too many specifics about this puter as i got it from a friend for a temp). I atempted to reinstall the recomended driver wich is a Realtek Avance AC97. and this seamed to work for others as i read in the other posts. However, when i restarted my computer, the "Found New Hardware" wizard tried to run automatically and then told me of an error.

Cannot install this hardware.

There was a problem installing this hardware:
C-media AC97 Audio device

An error occured during the installation of the device

The required section was not found in the INF

Click finish to close the wizard.

And thats as far as i got, i have no other ideas. Could the soundcard on my MoBo be damaged? and if so, could purchasing and installing an after market soundcard be a possible solution. I really just want to fix this problem.

Answer:Multimedia Audio controller issue, no sound

AC97 Drivers are a pain in the Ars, I went through 20-30 diff downloads from the net and even the right drivers from my old hardrive, nothing would install and of course, I lost my driver disk. I found diging through my comp parts and finding a PCI Audio card from Creative Labs, loaded right up, no problems. I have officially given up on AC97.

Please help!!!! I have that horrible problem of" No audio output device installed" and the red x over my sound icon, which means no sound. BUT I also have another problem.

Many say to fix this problem with windows 7 by going to device manager and fixing it under the catagory of sound video and game controller. Problem is, I DONT HAVE THAT OPTION!!!!!

I have no line that says sound video and game controller at all in my device manager. THAT is the major frustrating part.I have no idea where to go now. It seems like an easy fix, but i cant even get started because i dont have the selection available. WTH??

I downloaded realtek hd for 7 already and ran it. No luck. Still red x.

All it tells me is "hardware changes may not have been detected."

Ive updated all new windows updates and went through the recent updates to see if anything could help, something I could to tell to run, but no avail.

All help is appreciated, BUT please take note that i dont have the option of fixing this problem via the sound video and game controller settings in the device manager because, again, i dont have that listing.

THX!!

Also, i've considered that it may be a virus, seeing that the common option of sound video game controller in not there and the virus may be trying to protect itself by hiding it. But i ran a Malware scan and nothing came up.

Answer:No output device/ no sound video game controller

Its driver issue. I would suggest you to install sound driver from CD/DVD that has been given to you by your computer dealer.
