Question: Missing columng in Regedit Right Hand Pane

In Regedit right hand pane I have only the Name column. Type and Data columns are missing. All data is stacked at left hand side under the Name column.

Preferred Solution: Missing columng in Regedit Right Hand Pane

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Missing columng in Regedit Right Hand Pane

Maybe the dividing line between the Left and Right hand panes is too farto the right. Move it to the left to give more space in the right pane.

Hi,

i love the new left side pane in folder view, but i cannot seem to get it to show 'Desktop'

id like to place it where the red line is

[also, can you change the icons for 'libraries' ]

Answer:Customize the left hand folder pane?

Hi al4x,

The closest I got with adding the desktop icon to the side pane is you can add the desktop Icon by clicking the Favorites arrow.(it might be already there). If you don't have any favorites or the arrow is not there you can add the Desktop Icon to it by Clicking and holding the icon and drag it to the favorites tab..

I have not been able to figure out if you can just add an icon anywhere in the side pane my guess in no..

And I have not found a way to change the icons for the libraries..(I don't think you can)

Hope this Helps..

If I expand a folder that's down towards the bottom and there's a lot of subfolders, then everything moves up to make room for the subfolder list. That's as it should be. But about the time I go to click on one of the subfolders, the whole list moves down again and you have to scroll back down to get where you want. After that, it stays put. It's an bug/annoyance that I hope someone gets fixed.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Answer:Windows Explorer left hand pane

I think the OP is noticing the little quirk in Win 7 where Explore does not bring the left pane target folder (the one with focud) up to the to of the pane, throwing it instead to the bottom of the pane.

A nuisance for sure, but unresolved to my knowledge.

Yes this has been answered before (in 2001, I think) but the solution as provided via Rollin' Rog:

failed to work. Maybe because IE is version 6?

The symptoms are the same - blank, b'ground-coloured left pane. The above was entered (I also tried 'shdocvw.dll' but no dice.

Any further possible solutions, please?

I am very new to the PC world, trying to find my way around and running XP. During this learning process I somehow lost the Windows Explorer Default Pane to the Left of the window (it used to show System Tasks/Other Places/Details in separate panels).I can still get Search and Folders by pressing the buttons in the tool bar but when both are de-selected I only have a large window with no sign of the original panel. Please can someone tell me if it is possible to recover this information as I found it very helpful. If so can you also tell me how to do it in simple terms. Many thanks.

Answer:Windows Explorer - Left Hand Default Pane

Open any Explorer window, select Tools from the top of the window, select Folder Options. Under the first heading (Tasks) make sure "Show Common Tasks In Folders" is selected, if not left click it. Click OK.

My pc motherboard was replaced a couple of weeks ago and when the engineer reinstalled windows me the left side of the explorer window remained greyed out.(It will show history and favourites, search, etc when selected).Although its only niggly I would prefer to see the folders on the left and the contents of these folders in the right pane.I have tried changing folder options to reflect the other pc I have access to but this has not resolved the problem.I don't want to reinstall windows with my original copy as I beleive it will uninstall all the hours of windows updated that I have done since.Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Answer:Explorer not showing me the left hand tree pane

If you are running XP there should be a button labelled "Folders" to the right of the "Search" button at the top of the window (when "viewed as a web page") Click this and the panel should appear with the folders in it.

Question: hand missing

hi can anyone help i have 4 pcs connected as a home network which is working ok anytime i have installed the network i go into windows explorer go to my documents and send a shortcut to desktop which puts a hand on the folder but now i find there is one without a hand i have tried to delete it and resend a shortcut again from explorer but i just get a plain my documents folder (the my documents i am talking about is not the default shared documents it is the the other one ) i hope someone can understand thanks Chippy

Answer:hand missing

More importantly, does the shortcut open the Shared Documents folder and is it found as a network share from another computer? If "Yes", then you can change the icon to the one with a hand, which is purely a cosmetic exercise. Right click the shortcut, select Properties and click the "Change icon" button. Scroll across until you find the one with the hand underneath and select that.

Windows XP. Outlook 2002. Preview Pane is missing from the View tab in the new folders that I created.

I had a personal folder(.pst) created a while ago and I used to be able to view the messages for that folder in the Preview Pane window. The folder got too big and I had to chop it to smaller folders. In doing so, The top folders that I created do not have Preview Pane show up in View tab. But, when I moved the existing sub-folders under the new folders or create sub-folders under the new folders, these sub-folders have Preview Pane.

The BAD solution was to create a TEMP sub-folder under each high level folder and forward all the message to it, but I would rather send all my message to the top folders.

Thanks in advance,
pongBeirut

Has any of you ever come across this problem? My preview pane is not displaying anything... I just noticed that the preview pane is not working when a supported file is clicked. When a file is not selected it shows a "No preview available" line but when you select a file, it is blank as you can see from the screenshot.
(I apologize for this I didn't know how else to demonstrate the problem...)
The problem is not with certain file types, like in the screenshot it is MP3s but all the other media files, the preview pane is entirely missing. I think there is a problem with the media player rich preview handler. The image files, such as jpg png etc, are still displayed... For example, if the thumbnails are turned on, you can see the preview of the image in the pane, if the thumbnails are turned off, then you see the enlarged icon of the file type in the pane, which is normal behavior.
Anything else like txt, video, pdf, a file type that would show normally (with rich preview handler thing) shows a blank in the pane. I can double click the blank preview pane and fire up the program to view the media file... I messed with a little utility called Preview Handler Association Editor this weekend, but didn't change much around, first I thought, that messed it up. I had assigned picture file types to media player rich preview handler so I didn't have to turn on the thumbnails to see a preview of pics. I reverted back to normal but that didn't fix the prob... Answer:Preview Pane gone missing in Windows 7

Just a few random ideas I have which may or may not work.
1. Run System File Checker.
2. Ensure Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > Views > Show Preview Handlers in Preview Pane is checked.
3. Pls see if this app helps you in anyway.
Hope something helps...

I don't need to access my Contacts list in Office 2010 very often. I just noticed today that the text entry for Contacts was missing from the Navigation pane. Instead, there was a small icon in the lower right corner of the pane for Contacts. On all my other machines the text entry is present. I've no idea when the text was replace by the icon or why -- it could have been weeks ago.

Will someone please tell me how to get the text entry back?

Thank you very much

Hi.

Could you try clicking that small arrow which says Configure buttons and check if contacts is tick marked?

Hi

I think the option that you are after is called "Common Tasks"

To enable this do the following

Open my computer and select TOOLS | FOLDER OPTIONS

From here look in GENERAL, under "Tasks" ensure that "Show common tasks in folders" is selected.

This should restore the functionality you are after

Hi, Usually repairing Internet Explorer fixes this issue.

Read the following, all the way down to the bottom!

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=194177

If you have XP, there is another method: Since XP comes with IE 6, the entry for IE does not show in Add/Remove Programs, and you cannot run the repair utility from there...so> try this:

Read about it first!http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm

Start button>Run

Type in the run line this:[cmd] and hit Enter key once.

Type this next to the cursor in the black box:

sfc /scannow (one space after the c) and hit Enter key once again.

Let the System File Checker run, it will take awhile, then it will NOT give any messages...either it works, or it doesnt.

For other than XP, win2000, etc:

The IE Repair utility is available if you have upgraded Internet Explorer from the original installed version> take a look in Add/Remove Programs, and if you see this:

Microsoft Internet Explorer (someversion) and Internet Tools, just hit Add/Remove> we arent uninstalling anything, you will see 3 options then> hit "Repair this version of IE" and let the utility run to completion. You will see a message that tells you either it fixed something, or that you need to reinstall IE.

There are certain steps to reinstalling depending on what your version of Windows is> and if you have XP with SP2 or not.

Let us know what happens.

Hi:
I have a terrific HP Laptop which I purchased back in 2007 or 2008 and I rarely use it until last month, probably only once or twice a week with only a few hours.

Recently, I started to use HP Laptop on daily basis and found 'Search' at the left side of the pane/screen is missing/lost when clicking on 'Search' at the top. 'Search' at the address bar is perfectly OK tho'.

Is this issue related to not use it for a while, .... or how did it disappear?

Only seen is 'Google' ad. popping up upon clicking at 'Search' on the tool-bar of the top.

How can I rescue 'Search' at the left pane of screen?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I have this problem with the vista details pane and I have not been able to find any solution. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium version. The problem is that:
1. My details pane is missing a lot of properties/tags . Only ones that are appearing are file date, file name, dated created.
2. When I go into a MP3 folder, same thing happens as I described in 1. Just the 4 tags appear and I don?t get any other tags that used to be there like artist name, rating, title, etc.
3. I cannot edit any Tag in the details pane. When everthing was working fine, I could go in the MP3 folder , I could edit the title, ratings etc. and Save it. But now I can?t do anything, the save button does not appear and the tags don?t go in edit mode.
Up till now I have tried the following solutions:
1. I have reset all the folder options in Vista by going to Folders/tools/reset defaults. (did not work)
2. After resetting the folders, I have also turned on the details pane option under Organize/Layout and the details under the Views. (did not work)
3. Under View, in the tool bar, I went to Customize This Folder and chose the Music Folder Option, All Items etc. (did not work)
4. Then on the Microsoft site, I found this solution ? Open Documents by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Documents., and click a file to apply properties. Then In the Details pane at the bottom of the folder window, click the property that you want to change, type the new property in the Tags.? But it did not work ei... Read more

Another problem (at least it's totally inconcistent from one install to the next)...

On the primary Windows Update screen, there is a "navigation pane" on the lefthand side (sidebar). From the primary WU screen, when I click on the righthand area "xxx important updates are available", it takes me to the screen showing all the updates that I am allowed to download. Ok, so about a week ago I recieved a dreaded image on my screen, that of bios telling me it could not start windows due to a file which is missing or corrupt (skrnl or something along those lines). In any case, I did what any self-respecting techy would do and I tried to solve it on my own with the help of countless articles. When I tried to reinstall windows it still gave me missing or corrupt errors during the installation (different files all the time). In the end, I determined that the harddrive was at fault. I bought a new hardrive, installed it, and I still could not install windows (it hangs at the "setup is now starting windows" part). I am now led to believe that this is a much deeper issue involving the mobo. As I can't even get into windows, I don't have access to too much more information. However, heres my system specs:

Athlon 64 3500+
2 GB DDR333 Patriot
320GB Segate Barracuda
eVGA SLI mobo
eVGA 7800GT
Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
ATI TV tuner

Any help is appreciated as before I take out my mobo and attempt to rma it I would like to be sure that this is the issue.

Hello. I'm using Windows 7 Home Pro. 64-bit, and Firefox browser. When I want to save an image from the Internet, and right click on an image, it opens up what looks just like Windows Explorer. The problem is, the 'preview pane' button is missing, and I can therefore not get a large preview when using the details view, which I must use, because I have folders with many files to look through quickly. The images do show up properly in icons view. If I open up Windows Explorer by itself, it works properly, and I get the preview pane button.

I saw a similar thread, and it recommended making sure Windows Photo Viewer, is set as the default program. I set it to be the default, but it didn't help.

On my older Windows XP computer, I had xplorer2lite open up when right-clicking on an image. That was a more convenient program for me to use. Is it possible to do that in Windows 7?

Also, is to possible to get the panes in Windows Explorer to 'hold' their position.

Thank you.

Answer:‘preview pane’ button missing in Windows Explorer for ‘save image as'

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I'd try another browser to confirm it's not browser or a website site issue.

I googled the problem and NOTHING!!!!! many information NO LONGER is displayed in my details pane in Windows Explorer!!!!!! song length is one of them gone missing (& total length if multiple files are selected) and I use that frequently!!!!! it ONLY shows basic information now such as artist, title, album, and genre!!! but total length is GONE!!! also MANY UNRELATED INFORMATION is now in the details pane for media files!!!!!!! mood of music has been added (never heard of that tag), song rating, and composer now have been added!!!! it even displays ALL THIS SAME INFORMATION for WAV files when it used to be ONLY file size and length for WAV files!!!!!!! WAV is NOT capable of tags so I don't know why Windows Explorer shows this information for WAV files!!!!!!

HOW DO I GET MY DETAILS PANE BACK TO NORMAL???????

Hi,

I can't seem to find my DVD/RW...

Now, I've done the whole 'REGEDIT.EXE, {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, UpperFilters, LowerFilters' thing restarted, even done the hokey pokey...but nothing seems to work.

My DVD drive has disappeared before and those steps have worked before, but they don't now.

My DVD/RW doesn't even show up in the 'Device Manager'...it's totally disappeared.

I can't even start my comp in 'Safe Mode' anymore to do anything that way.

I'm out of ideas...

I'd really appreciate a different approach, I've tried all the obvious ones...

I am running Windows XP Professional, and using Avast! Antivirus and Spybot: Search and Destroy. My taskmgr.exe file is missing as well as regedit. ctrl+alt+del does nothing and I can't access either by Start -> run, nor can I find them anywhere in Windows (even with hidden and system files viewable). Even worse, the files are also missing from the Dllcache folder in Windows/System32. And when I attempted to make copies of the files using an emergency utility (xp_emegencyutil.exe) from dougknox.com, only the ms_config file was created; the other two seem to have been intercepted somehow.Do I have any options besides wiping my hard drive?

Answer:taskmgr.exe and regedit missing!

Are you able to run any other applications on the machine such as Internet Explorer or the command prompt? Do you receive an error message when you try to run task manager or regedit? If so, please post EXACTLY what the error message says.

IE6 is missing the address bar where you type in addresses. Tried all the suggested fixes by Microsoft; changed the settings under View/toolbars/address bar (address bar is checked, but not there).

Tried to edit the registry by deleting hkey_currentusers/software/microsoft/internet explorer/toolbars/web browser. This value reappears the next time you run IE6, but still no address bar!

Ran virus scan and adware removal programs, detected PurityScan and removed, but still no address bar, could this be related?

Did I make the address bar invisible or do something stupid??!?!?! Grrrrrrrr.... all help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Hi

Just went through a news post on Business issues, which was regarding a data protection plan that will ensure Application recovery as well. With Internet being proclaimed as one of the most lethal sources of media, risks associated with the medium have also given nightmares to even some of the most powerful corporates we have today. Businesses today deploy several resources to make sure their data is protected from external threats whereas the Application recovery part is still in a jeopardized state, courtesy the incremental and challenging steps involved in the procedure. Do you feel in the coming time these complex procedures can be simplified? Can data protection strategies and Application recoveries go together?

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. When I restarted my computer after running a check of the hard drive, I got a message that read "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable." The desktop had reverted to a default appearance and all the icons on it except for the recycle bin were gone. Under the Start Menu, the only program listed was Solitaire, though if I clicked "All Programs" at the bottom it did list them all. I read that it might be a registry issue, so I downloaded and ran "Free Windows Registry Repair", but when I restarted the computer afterwards I saw it did not fix the problem. I also read it could be an issue with "hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows NT\currentversion\profilelist". That did not come up when I ran the Registry Repair program, and I cannot get to regedit, because Run does not appear as an option when I type run in the search bar in the Start Menu.

Any ideas as to what I should do?

another says go to HKLM\Software\Classes\AppID and i don't have that either, just an App (if i recall rightly).

Answer:Task Manager Tab Missing & Regedit Used By Another Program

Hello viclim and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. If the laptop is on a domain you should contact the domain administrator regarding the Task Manager issues there. The administrator might have disabled that for the network users. For the desktop, please post a HijackThis log and the specific issues that relate to just the desktop. I will review the information for that one when it comes in.Also, make sure that HijackThis is not being run from the temp folders or from within the archive file by following these directions:ImportantYour copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. If it is run from inside a compressed file then the backups are not created at all. Please open My ComputerDouble-click on Local Disk (C:)Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder (do not run HijackThis directly out of the sfx or compressed file).Cheers.OT

When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?

FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.

Answer:Windows Explorer: Navigation Pane and Preview Pane Bug

Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.

Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

https://explorerplusplus.com/

It's portable and runs without installation.

Let us know if navigation pane works using Explorer++

I had to manually find all related files to OE6 to delete it so it would reinstall. Then the updates. Now nothing shows up on the preview pane or when I open the email. I can use Outlook instead but what is wrong? The only view of the message is in properties: details: message source.

Answer:Solved: OE has empty preview pane, open pane

1. With Outlook Express closed, go to Start>Run
2. Type in: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll (with the space after "regsvr32")
3. Click OK (or press the Enter key)
4. Open OE and see if things are fixed

Hi,

I am a noob in this forum and this is my first post and I apologize if I inadvertently violate any posting rules.

My problem is that I cannot Access Task Manager and Regedit is Missing and I cannot Run DDS Tool in my computer to comply with the requirements in this forum.

I use a pretty old laptop - IBM ThinkPad T41 - but I still get things done with it and would like to continue using it for my current needs and requirements.

I am having problems accessing the task manager, and when I run the taskmgr.exe I get the prompt response "Windows cannot find 'taskmgr.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." Alternatively, I tried running regedit.exe and I got this error message - "regedit.exe - Unable to Locate Component - This application has failed to start because ACLUI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

I have already ran MBAM and Avast Free Antivirus to see if I can solve the problem. Got clean results with Avast but caught several issues while running MBAM. I took the initiative of posting snippets of the 3 MBAM logs that were generated from the 4 MBAM scans I did today for your reference.

I'm trying to run the combofix program and, find that my (so says a combofix message box) regedit is "missing".... where can I download one?

Answer:missing regedit (registry editor) for home 7 premium

Are you trying to run Combofix due to a recent infection, or do you suspect that you are infected?
If either of the above, I'd recommend going through the READ & RUN ME FIRST.
It's possible that regedit.exe was infected and quarantined by your AV. What operating system are you running?

I really want to get on the ball and learn a language to a point where I can do something with it. I've learned a couple of languages to a point where I "understand" them, but I can't make anything cool.

And I figure, I'm a Linux fan, but I know I'd rather make programs for a platform that is going to get used. So why not C#?

So my real question is, is .NET going to be a big part of Longhorn? Cause right now if I published a program and said you need the ".NET Framework", no one would have it, or download it. So my time would be wasted. If .NET is going to be huge, then I'll start with earnest in learning C# and the .NET framework.

Answer:Is Longhorn going to be hand-in-hand with .NET? I want to learn a new language

The .NET framework *should* have been part of Windows XP, but wasn't ready in time for XP's ship date.

I'll bet a year's salary that all of .NET and probably all of whatever comes out with Whidbey (the next version of .NET) will be in the OS (Longhorn) by the time it ships.

When I ran Tweaking.com's Windows Repair, it kept saying, "RegEdit.exe doesn't exist," on every repair, so I ran Rkill as soon as the icons came up on restart. For the first time, it found more than processes to terminate; it found a whole bunch of missing digital signatures. I'm really freaking out. I'm including the logs of that Rkill and Windows Repair. I ran Combofix, too, because my tech-savvy friend who built this laptop for me told me to "Toss Combofix at it, then Malwarebytes, and then whatever else anti-malware programs you might have and choose to use." So, I'm putting the logs in the body of the message because I know that's how you folks like it done.

Answer:Ran Rkill immed on boot, got many Missing Digital Signatures. RegEdit won't run

Hi,

Since you have run Combofix, please follow these instructions:

Please follow the instructions in THIS GUIDE starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.
Once the proper logs are created (make sure to include the combofix log created, probably located at C:\ComboFix.txt), then make a NEW TOPIC and post it HERE. Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.
If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.
It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members. xXToffeeXx~

Is it possible to have no Nav Pane when opening a Desktop folder, but have Nav Pane when opening Win Explorer? Like it was in WinXp/Win98/Win95?
When I disable Nav Pane, it disappears for Desktop folders and Windows Explorer.

I think the answer was 'no' for Win7.

I installed Classic Start Menu hoping one of it's features could do it. If it does, I've not been able to enable it. Other than that, Classic Start Menu is a super improvement.

You all take care,

My Favorites Folders are no longer visible in the Favorites Center pane, to the left of my Homepage window? Individual favorites are still visible but none of the folders with their contents. I can find all my Favorites Folders under my username but want to return them to the pane so I can access them easily from my Homepage? I did click on a option earlier today that asked about also saving your Favorites in the Cloud?

I am experiencing trouble with my laptop, i cannot log in to the administrators account, the message "User profile service failed. the user profile cannot be loaded". i have found various videos and pages of advice which i have been following. however, i cannot delete the temp profile in Regedit. i have fiddled with the permissions and each time i select "full access" it gets rejected. This then means i cannot go any further with the repair process.

Question: second hand pc

im going to buy a second hand pc,its custom built and 1 year old.
What i needed to know was other than take the side of the case and remove parts, how would i find the serial numbers etc?
It comes with no boxes or manuals
As im still paying a lot of money,i need to know that the components havent been swopped as they are under warranty and the person selling hasnt put older parts in and kept the newer parts,eg,cpu and graphics card.

Answer:second hand pc

Well most of the Motherboards have the serial numbers on the then. The video card should have a sticker on them with the model and serial number on them. With the CPU I would boot the computer up and look to see what the BIOS says the CPU is and it should show a serial number. Not sure about the CPU.

Hey all, I've used HJT before with some success but only with the guidance of such gifted people as yourselves. I'm hoping you can help me again. I just recently reloaded windows xp on my machine because of some massive problems with a hard drive. That said, I have limited software on my computer as I haven't had the opportunity to load much else other than the basic windows components. Just tonight I've started getting massive popups. I'm talking I walk away for 5 minutes and come back and about 20 will be on the screen. So far I haven't had my homepage or anything hijacked, so I'm hoping there is just a piece of software somewhere that I can get rid of. I've tried scanning with adaware and spysweeper, but it gets finished and I'm still getting all the popups still continue. I've posted my HJT log below which is from tonight. I could use all the help I can get!Yesterday, I downloaded something, I now regret. The file was laced with trojans and virus, one of those being the dreaded SpyQuake (As if the others weren't enough). Almost instantly I had over 10 popups, from SpyQuake to Winvirus!First I tried AVG anti-virus. It cleaned out some. Then counter spy. It cleaned out over 300 infected regs. and 50+ infected programs/ files. But still, I had the pesky SpyQuake and Winvirus! So next I downloaded Spybot S&D. It got rid of over 50 different trojans! (I also downloaded Ewido, but it is only finding cookies =/). After that, I called it a night, unplugged my internet cable in went to bed. This morning, I was expecting everything to be okay, but overnight, the gang of anti-virus/ anti- spyware each found (Auto  scans.. yay!) Their own virus and trojans! I deleted them, and ran more scans. Every scan I do, I keep finding more and more! All day I have been scanning and deleting, scanning and deleting. This afternoon, I noticed my background had been deleted to a blue screen! I fixed that problem, and thought I was in the clear.I put up all the shields the programs offered, my firewall, and my settings to max security, and plugged in my internet. Things went smoothly, up until an hour ago. I was using FireFox and I noticed the WinVirus tabs and alerts. Also, my computer decided to slow down, and my internet started to move slower than my old dial up! (I am running broadband).I ran spybot, and it f... Read more

Hi,

I recently posted in the hardware support, building forum as I was thinking about upgrading my PC. I have since changed my mind and am looking toward building an entirely new machine and selling my old one. Problem is a work colleague wants to buy it and I dont know what is a fair price.

Its a Compaq Presario with a [email protected], 512MB RAM, onboard vga & sound and a 150GB IDE HD. Also has 2 optical drives, one's a DVD rewriter the other a CD rewriter/DVD ROM and there's a built in card reader.

I'm currently running XP Pro but I would format the HD and use the compaq restore disks so it would sell with XP Home. I'd also probably install Office 2003 as I have 2 copies of that (one was a freebie through work) and I'd setup anti virus, adware & spyware software as well, but probably just free downloads like AVG etc. And I'd run all the current windows updates (is it SP3 on XP now??)

My colleague who wants to buy is close to retirement and not PC literate at all, so I would also get him up and running at home and connected to the web and install all his existing software and transfer documents from his old PC and I would be offering on-going support if he ever had any problems.

Do you reckon that ?200 is fair for this or should I be looking for a bit less.

Thanks in advance for any comments and just for info ? to US $ is currently ?1 = $1.95 (I think!)

Answer:Second Hand PC Value

Difficult to say - my own thoughts - with only 512Mb RAM I'd perhaps think about reducing your figure by ?10 or ?20. Other than that, your suggested price seems reasonable to me.

Hi everyone , and thanks for taking the time to read this post , I'm sure the question has been asked a 100 times .
First of I'm using my phone right now I don't have a pc to upgrade etc , looking for something second hand and cheap as possible .
I want to use it to store and play music , surf the net , download and stream movies through my tv . Store pictures and do basic editing to them . And the usual net surfing , play online poker no other gaming at all
I have looked on eBay but have no idea which one is better than the next and if they are good or bad lol .
The best reply would be one that said buy this pc in this link .
One other thing how can I be sure a pc has in it what the seller says it has .
Any tips or advice appreciated and thank you for reading this
Gary

Answer:what second hand pc

Firstly...what is your budget ? How much will you go to ? Also, have you used a pc previously ? Second hand market is a minefield and your "fears" are justified regarding what spec you are sold.

Hi, Just like to say great site and I think its so good that people give up their time for others in need here.

My HP laptop logs in as normal,

First of all some programs normally on start up in the bottom right hand corner like printer and anti-virus do not start.

Then whenever I click on a program it says, 'windows cannot access the specified divice, path or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item'.

When I tried to open Word it says; 'This file does not have a file associated with it for performiing this action. Create an association in the set associations control panel.'

The wireless says its connected in networking but will not display in the botom right.

Finally the firewall is not open, internet isn't working and when I try to shut down it says; 'you do not have permission to shut down and restart this computer.'

I am logged in as administrator.

A virus scan in safe mode shows nothing, programs and internet open with no problem in safemode with networking.

I have no idea how this may have happened. I would very much like some help!

Thankyou

Answer:Hello, could I have a hand please?

Hi there, welcome to the forums

It could be possible you are infected, but your AVs are not picking it up. Some are just sneaky like that.

To be sure, visit this page http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html and do everything it says, making sure you post the required logs in the security forum and not back here.

Be patient, because it can sometimes take a while for them to respond due to the volume of requests there.

ok here is the problem. I just recently installed maplestory and everytime I try to start the game using the games launcher i recieve a message stating that "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." this problem only occured recently since installation. I have had this game on my computer before than the game did its automatic update and it caused issues with the anti virus software so I deleted the original and installed this one strait from the official site so there shouldnt have been any problems. so if anyone knows what to do please let me know. thanks in advance.

Question: second hand value

whats a fair asking price for a 2 year old 19 inch hansol monitor

Answer:second hand value

Go to click here and look at Monitors. You will see a new 19" monitor with 3 year warranty is £165. A secondhand 17" monitor is £60. Take it from there. What do you think £70? £80?. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

my PC is stuck rebooting. When it gets to the choice to go to safe mode I cant use my arrow keys. I want to launch in safe mode and figure out this issue from there. I also have the Win XP CD in my drive and dont know how to boot from tyhat not being able to get to windows. I was able to hit f8 and get into the bios but cant use my arrow keys nor the enter button there either. So I am stuck in a viscous cycle. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated. Thank You

Answer:Need A Hand Please And Thanks For The Help

You could try removing the CMOS battery...and forcing a reversion to default CMOS settings...then attempt to go into the BIOS and change your boot options to CD/DVD first...then use an XP CD to access the Recovery Console and try to run chkdsk /r from there. Before trying this, please unplug your system, after powering down properly.Short The CMOS Jumper - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/207507-28-help-reset-bios CMOS Battery. - http://www.geocities.com/micksmix2000/cmosbatt.html Louis
