Computer starts with blank screen

Question: Computer starts with blank screen

Everytime I switch on my computer it starts with a blank screen. Most of the time the 2 extra HD's are crossed out. When I re-start everything is fine. Any idea what is happening? When was the last time you did something for the first time?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was browsing the web when suddenly my pc froze. There were some discolored pixels and few weird lines. Then the os crashed.
After it crashed I tried restating but the screen just stayed blank.
I noticed that cpu fan seems to be spinning slower than usual.

I tested the monitor and psu on my other pc, both checks out. I tried with my old gpu and still no luck.

Not sure what to do next.

COMPUTER DETAILS:

HP Envy 34" All in One, model 1039801
Windows 10
2tb 5400 RPM SATA and 128 SSD
16 gig Memory
No optical drive
4x USB 3.0, 3x USB 2.0, 1x HDMI out, 1x Combination Microphone / Headphone Jack, 1x Media Card Reader

I woke up yesterday and my 6 month old computer boots to a blank, black screen. No windows logo at startup. I can hear the fan whirring when I start, but then nothing else. I know I can't fix permanently, this but I am desperately hoping I can get it functional enough to pull information off of the 2tb drive. Methods I've already tried to fix this:

shutting down, unplugging for hours, then plugging back in
hitting escape repeatedly while booting
hitting F10, F5 repeatedly while booting
restarting, holding down power button then rebooting
holding down Windows+B while booting
16 short beeps while using the Windows+B method-nothing else worked

HP has agreed to fully refund my purchase, but I cannot open the PC without voiding the warranty (and losing the $2,000 refund). Is there any way to connect to a functional computer long enough to pull off some information? Is there a method I haven't tried? Is a miracle possible?

Thanks in advance!

Whilst playing with the Win Speedup prog on the Jan 2005 CD I pressed the optimize button to "improve" the "cache" on my daughter's PC (WIn ME, P3 500 Mhz with 640 RAM). From then on she had problems using her SIMs game as, on starting, it said a problem had been caused with Kernel32.DLL. Not being able to correct the problem I then tried a System Restore to a few days earlier but now have made matters worse. The PC when booting up comes up with a "AVG Core is missing - reinstall AVG 6" message, it carries on booting up but near the end of the process just after another box showing "AVG Language file missing" the screen goes blank. It actually sounds as if the boot process continues to the end but there is nothing on screen. I've tried to boot in safe mode to undo the System Restore but it won't accept it and boots normally with the same resulting blank screen! Any ideas please in words of one syllable for this rather PC illiterate would be very welcome. Many thanks

PC shut down during storm. Ever since having trouble with Windows.
I get blank screen with Windows starting (eg. Windows audio comes on) majority of the time. Windows screen does come on occasionally.
I have very small amount of data (4 KB) in bad sector (after running chkdsk). Told me "ntkrnpla.exe" was deleted or not found. I repaired boot disk sector but did not help. And XP only boots w/BIOS basic default settings (will not boot w/optimum settings) fyi: WD Blue Hard disk: 250 GB w/95 GB used, 1 yr old.
I tried booting two other hard drives w/XP installed and with same result.

Sound like Mobo and/or CPU problem(s) on top of an HDD issue? (Graphics card issue less probable?)

Troubleshooting:
- Removed BIOS battery once.
- Reset graphics card in socket.
- Checked monitor connections and used monitor "Reset" button.
- Scanned for viruses.
No improvement after performing the above.

I have a x61 lenova thinkpad, it charges up but nothing appears on the screen, its just black. Can some one please advise on how to fix this please?

Answer:X61 thinkpad, Starts but blank screen

A couple of things to try to diagnose the issue.

1. Connect the VGA output from your X61 to an external monitor. Does that display correctly? If yes then the problem is screen-related. If not then it's probably the graphics chip on the motherboard.

2. Power up the X61 in a dark room then shine a flashlight,  er torch , on the screen. If you can see normal startup faintly then the problem is a burned out CCFL backlight or possibly a bad inverter board.

Answer:Computers screen goes blank after it starts up.

Is it a Windows 8 computer? I ask because getting to safe mode in Windows 8 is no mean feat for someone who is not great with PCs

First thing I'd do is run the computer from a live disk or USB just to check the hardware. I would use Ubuntu which I have lying about already but if you don't have a live disk, create one from here (Linux): http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop or UBCD (a Windows live disk) here: http://www.securitywonks.net/listing/view/3/UBCD-for-Windows

If there's no problem with the hardware then use the recovery options available on the computer. With Windows 8 there's the option to restore Windows without losing the user files. Press ESC on boot to find the options for recovery. (It's nevertheless a good idea to backup the user file first if you can - use the live disk and  USB drive - or you could use a USB live disk and burn the files to a DVDs)

If it's not Windows 8 then it depends greatly on which computer we are looking at.

Which computer Brand, model, Operating System?

I purchased a Thinkpad T61 about 14 months ago and it worked fine throughout the duration of the 1 year warranty. Then about two weeks ago, the screen starts turning completely black as Windows Vista starts up. I tried rebooting it a bunch of times until it started up normally again. The problem would repeat itself. I thought it was a problem with Vista so I uninstalled Vista and installed XP. The graphics card that game with the computer was the Nvidia 140m Quadro, which does not have an updated Vista driver. It worked fine and ran without a hitch until today, where the screen, once again, turned black during start up and would stay black. I know the problem is with my screen because Windows loads up completely fine (I hear all the sounds of Windows starting up and when I press keyboard keys, the computer would respond accordingly- e.g. Alt F4, followed by U would turn off the computer once it's started up.) The screen would be black during start up, then light up (but would still be blank), and then would go black again before windows loads up. I tried rebooting numerous times but the result has always been the same- black screen, lights up (still blank screen though) before black screen again, as Windows starts up without a problem. I called Lenovo Support but they hooked me up to a Call Center in India with a rather impatient (and difficult to understand) operater who said it was an LCD problem- one that would require 600 dollars to repair. While that's certainl... Read more

It's my first post, so please be nice...

I was working on my computer when everything froze for several minutes, so I tried Alt+Ctrl+Del, but to no avail. I restarted the computer by doing a force shut down by holding down the power button. When I restarted the computer, after the windows logo graphic, the screen turns black/blank and the HDD activity stops (led indicator).

I started Windows in Safe mode and tried various recovery points, none of which fix the problem. I tried doing a virus scan with Norton, but SOMEHOW it does not do a search but tells me complete immediately. I did to a scan about 2 days ago and everything was cleaned up. I search through my HD and I can access anything I want in safe mode. When I did a S.M.A.R.T. test for the HD, everything came up normal.

I am out of ideas!! What could be wrong with my computer?? How can I fix this? How is it possible for it to boot in safe mode but not regularly?

Thanks!

Hi,
I have a new pc which started fine the first time, till we connected to the net, then when we restarted it a blank screen came up, but you could see the mouse. We went to restore point, and it was fine again, then after a couple of days, the start bar disappeared, so I went into Display Nvidia and found multiple screens. This made me think when the problem happened before it was due to seeing the other screen perhaps. So it happened again, but when playing with keyboard I could hit arrow or something and then get image on screen, which was background only. I have to wonder if the pc thinks that the monitor should show the other screen, not my number 1. So my question is does this sound plausible, and second of all would this account for my mouse to be going off edge of monitor (Asus 22")? Thanks

Answer:XP starts in blank screen, unless Safe mode

I would suspect a problem with the driver Go to the device manager and delete the driver for the display adapter then reboot the PC to allow it to redetect the device and reload the driver. If you have a driver disk point it towrds that.

Tried several times to restart : always blue blank screnn , no start , no folders only cursor. If I use F12 used all the options ( secured mode , last functioning configuration etc : same result) rebooted from cd rom and tried to repair / always same picture : empty blue screen or black screen - nothing goes.
I am a beginner- have some important data on that disk and no backup.
No idea how to get into the h key or registry setup. Anybody who can help me - please keep it simple. Thanks

Hey everybody. New user here who needs a lil help. I'll tell you exactly what happened. So yesterday, I put my PC on "Sleep" mode as I had to pop out for a bit. After I had come back, the PC won't kick out of it. Well the CPU did, but the screen wouldn't It was still on Standby mode. After trying for 5 minutes I decided to reboot the PC. But this time round, upon switching it on, there was a lengthy beep (5-10 seconds long.) That beep would occur every 10 seconds but the screen won't come on still. After trying a couple of times I decided to try it on a different monitor using different wiring... same problem again. I tried switching it on without it being connected to a monitor and I could still hear the beep of death. I tried to use a different power cable for the CPU and no luck. After having done some research, I realised it could be either my RAM or graphics card. So can anyone hear me advise me well? Where do I go now from here? What is wrong with my PC? How do I go about getting it fixed? Any help will be really appreciated. Here's my specs:Packard Bell iXtremeVista Premium3gb RAM2.4Ghz Intel Quad Core 2768mb nVidia GeForce 9600 GS700gb HDDIf you need any more info then ask.

On my old Sony laptop this problem never occurs, but after duel bootng OSX and Windows 7 on my MacBook I get this possible problem on every boot.

My MacBook starts as nromal, I select Windows 7 (OSX boots fine) and it just hangs on a blank screen for around 20 seconds with an underscore flashing the whole time before anything starts to happen (that bit where the Windows logo forms etc).

This makes the boot times around 1 minute or so, whereas on my old laptop they're only around 30 seconds.

This is Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). Everything is updated, using Bootcamp 3.0 drivers etc, working perfectly just like XP did.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I have tried searching, and can't seem to find anyone with this problem. Is this just apart of booting? Why doesn't this happen on my other PC?

Thanks.

Edit: Mis-typed title, meant to say 20 seconds.

Answer:Blank Screen for 30 Seconds before boot starts?

You can try looking in the system log files (from the log viewer under admin tools). Ususally if a driver or piece of hardware takes longer than expected to become active a warning it put in the log.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Windows Performance Toolkit which you can DL from here:
Windows Performance Analysis Developer Center

It is much more involved but it can possibly pinpoint a specific driver that is hanging for 30 seconds. That is assuming that the black screen is during the windows boot and is not bootcamp itself waiting for something bfore actually starting the windows boot...

Hi, I am getting overwhelmed trying to figure this out.  Every day when I try to start the computer, I get nothing but a blank screen with a faint flickering in the background.  Pushing F-keys does not produce an image and the blank screen is without a message of any sort.  The computer does its beep, the keyboard, mouse and speaker lights come on, sometimes the monitor light goes thru green and yellow but usually ends with no light and Windows does its Welcome tune but the screen stays blank.  Between each on/off attempt I do one or more of the following:  I open the case and tweak the wires and check that everything is in there tightly or/and I unplug power cords from the surge suppressor removing all the peripherals plugs and plug the PSU and the monitor directly into the wall or/and disconnect the internet, or I turn in circles 3 times and stand on my head.   Finally, finally, finally it comes on ? this has been going on for a couple weeks now.  Once in awhile it comes on with the first attempt or after just one little tweak.  When it comes on it stays on and works fine all day.  I can even do restarts and power on/offs instead of restarts and it acts like nothing is wrong; which of course gives me false hope all day that I have solved the problem.  I have tried leaving the computer on overnight and just turning off the monitor.  It worked one time and was fine all day but it didn?t work the next time ? I couldn?... Read more

Answer:Daily get Blank Screen at startup – after 4 to 5 tries if starts up normal

Hi!Your computer beeps and boots but you get no video until some time has gone by. The problem is not likely in your computer.I think the kind of problem you are having is electrical. I think there's a component that needs to warm up in order to function. This sometimes indicates a "cold" solder joint. That's a solder joint that has cracked and is not providing good enough conductivity until it warms up and the thermal expansion causes the solder to short as its supposed to. It could also be that a component has a similar heat related problem. These types of problems are very difficult to find and repair. More than likely its a problem with the back light in the LCD.First step: get a friend to bring over his laptop or desktop system (unless you happen to have one lying around that you know works.) Plug your monitor into the known working system after leaving it off over night or at least several hours. (try to use a known working cable too, but the fact that you bought a new one pretty much indicates that its not the cable or connectors. As an insurance step: examine the cables you have at both ends carefully to make sure the pins are not bent or pushed in. Examine the card to make sure its connector is undamaged.)If you still get black screen from the known working system plugged into your monitor then the problem is in the monitor.Alternatively you could test a different LCD. But you'll be more sure the failure is in the LCD if you replicate the pro... Read more

Hi everyone,

I need urgent help, I bought this new laptop 3 weeks ago from Futureshop.ca and now today, i pressed the power button to turn it on and when it does i get this blank white screen.

I even tried removing the batterie and hooking up the AC direct and it still produced the same thing.

I can't believe after only 3 weeks it stopped working.

PS: it does power on. just a white blank screen. no logo nothing.

thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite C650D-007 starts with blank white screen

Hello

In the past I didn?t had such problem but it must be hardware related issue, so what you should do is to contact Futureshop, explain the problem and ask for replacement.
Second option for you is to contact nearest Toshiba service directly. They can check your notebook and replace defective hardware.

Hi.  I have a hp G62-225NR Notebook running windows 7.  I was browsing the internet as usual when the computer suddenly shut off and restarted itself, then not too long after it restarted itself it shut off again accept this time it only came to a blank screen with the blinking curser at the top.  I've tried troubleshooting online and I went to the BIO and restored default setup and did the hard drive and memory test which both passed.  I can't get to safe mode, or don't know properly how, and when I hit f11 for system recovery it just goes back to the blank screen with the blinking curser.  The computer was working just fine, it seems like there must be a fix for this.

My HP pasilion cames with windows 8.1. My son upgraded it to  windows 10. To some point, he wanted to rollback to Win 8.1, but it never succeeded. Recently he wanted to do a factory reset. We tried, but it did not succeed. And then the laptop always went to the screen of options for factory or so. No matter which option we selected, it never reached the screen of login. I tested the system, all passed. Had a quick question, I got a computer that will start up but the screen wont come on. Im thinking that the light for the screen might have broke, from dropping the computer. Is there anyway to fix it? if so how can I do this and how much will it cost, or would I be better off sending it to a local computer shop?

Answer:Computer starts, screen won't come on

Is this a laptop? Its possible the screen is broke. Or you may have broken something else, Either way you will need to have it service. Your best bet would be to have a local computer shop look at it and give you a price. Then you can decide if its worth fixing. Or just replacing. It really depends on what was damage after you dropped it.

I am sure someone here my be able to tell you the cost if you want to go that route.

Vista - Screen/Monitor Problem

I just upgraded to vista about 3 weeks ago, and everything was working fine. I shut my computer off a couple nights ago and when i went to turn it on it went through the regular start-up, and Welcome screen, and then went black. I had an error message that popped up (i will turn the computer on to check what it said and will post it) but everything behind the message was still black.

When i turn the computer on in safe mode the screen works fine. Is there a way for me to see what the problem is in safe mode? I backed up everything, but my recovery disk 1 isn't working (i dont now if it is the computer or the disk, so before i buy new disks i want to see if there is anything that could be done to fix it).

Does anyone recognize this problem? Please Help!

Answer:Computer Starts - Screen Black

You can check your drivers in safe mode.... if you see an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle, you'll know that's a problem.

So here it is i have an hp pavilion tx 2500 running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit 3 gigs ram 312 gig graphics card 2 ghz dual core processor 250 gig hard drive full touch screen.
I restart my computer and it will sit at the hp screen and stay their i will restart a bunch of times and finally will boot up all is good if i leave it on but as soon as i reboot same thing happens again some times i need to leave it unplugged and with the battery out for an hour before it will work

any thoughts

Answer:When computer starts sits on hp screen and does nothing

try removing a stick of RAM, sounds like something is delaying the boot. not sure if the battery could tie into this theory but it may be drained. have you tried leaving the battery out and keeping the computer plugged in? this will tell you if it's a problem with the battery or not.

Try another monitor on that computer while contemplating your next post.A lot more in the way of details would be helpful. What happened prior to this, operating system, details on the computer, etc.See below.

computer starts til it reaches welcome screen then restarts in the faulty shutdown screen then it goes to the search bar and loops back to the restart screen again

Answer:computer starts til welcome screen then restarts

boot to safe mode, then check your video resolution , set to minimum, then reboot to normal and reset the resolution after you boot up,usually a video problem when that happens, if you can't get into safe mode, check the hard drive for a problem

Hia there,

I have a friend who is using windows xp.When they boot the computer up.They encounter a black screen with some wording. He tells me that the wording is to do with ms dos. Then the screen goes black, with just the cusor showing in the top hand left corner.
I have an idea of what the problem is,and think that someone has gone into his settings and asked the machine to boot up in dos.
Can anyone tell if i am right.Or if there is another solution to this problem.
Thankyou for your help.

Answer:Computer Starts Up In MS Dos Then Just Black Screen

First thing to try is disconnect all peripherals (especially printers with card readers), ensure no disks are in the drives and try booting. Next -
-Disconnect all peripherals and mains power
-Press & hold power button for 15 sec
-Reconnect mains power only, power up

If that too fails, boot to BIOS, reset defaults, and try booting again.

I recently put in an upgrade to my ram from 512 mb to 768 total Ram. I went to turn it on and I saw a spark where the P1 is at, and now the screen will not turn on, but my hard drive still turns on or runs? Did I short circuit my motherboard? could it be my video graphics card? any help on getting it back to working condition? thanks

Answer:My computer starts up but my screen will not turn on

Make sure you unplug mains lead after you shutdown. Remove the upgrade ram and try starting again. when you say "where the P1 is at" do you mean the power connector to the Mainboard?.

Could be a few things but i suspect you have blown a ram module or the PSU.

Hello,
When i turn on my computer, it just goes to a black screen, no sign of the bio's screen or windows xp screen. No flickering or anything, no indication its connected except for the fact when i unplug the monitor the screen saying there is no cable on the monitor shows up. i tried a different monitor on it, same thing happens. It is connected to the on-board graphics card. I tried removing the hard drive to see if that was the problem, no luck. Shouldn't it at least show the bios screen? I tried removing the battery without any luck hoping it would reset any bios, I tried removing the ram, no luck. Any ideas on what is wrong with it?

This problem only started a few days ago.

My computer started up to a black screen, and after a few seconds my monitor went to sleep. No cursor, nothing. I had do a hard reboot to get it to work properly. Yesterday, it happened twice. I hit Google to see what I could find but nothing worked. Here's what I found:

1. Some threads suggested it could be a problem with the video card or some other driver. My video card driver is up to date, my most recent driver installation was my printer, however, that was done over a week ago, and the black screen problem didn't occur then.

2. Startup programs, I checked to see if it might be something attempting to load, but it was just the update service for my printer, and the digital imaging software for my printer(both disabled, as of right now). It was neither of these as the problem occurred again.

3. I ran malware bytes and it came back clean, no malware detected. Running Norton to see if it could find anything but I highly doubt it.

The black screen only happens some of the time. When I make it to the login screen, my machine runs normally, nothing strange occurs, I can use my machine as if there isn't a problem.

My monitor is fairly new, closer to a year old.

I ran chkdsk /f and it was completed, no errors or interruptions.

I really don't want to replace my hard drive, I have a back up solution in place so I'm not worried about my files. My real problem is, if I have to re-install windows I need a new CD key for Windows 7... Read more

Answer:Computer Sometimes Starts Up with A Black Screen

Hello and welcome Annabelle looks like a similar problem I had a while ago with my Sandy Bridge build - tried all the usual stuff like you have and in the end it was solved by just reseating the GPU card.

Try that first along with most of the major cables power and board connectors and have a good general clean out inside the case.
Edit: Don't forget the static electricity rules - ground yourself on the case while it is plugged in before diving inside the case and then unplug the thing before you dos so.

The chkdsk (you could try the /r switch with that) I see you have run but try this as well if you haven't already

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs

then these if necessary
SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
Malwarebytes | Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium
AdwCleaner Download
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If you are running Kaspersky as the main AV then it might need disabling it when trying ADW because it does not like it at times)

The Norton I am not a fan off so I'd leave that and as for the 7 key it really is worth a phone call to Microsoft and explain your predicament and as a general rule they are normally happy to let you use the key again.

I have just recently bought a computer that someone else made. He told me that the only thing the computer needed was memory. Well I bought the correct memory from crucial.com, stuck it in there, and when I start it up nothing appears on-screen. The motherboard is a Biostar M7VIG 400 and the memory is DDR PC3200 unbuffered, non-ECC. When I hit the power button, I hear the Hard drive start but that is it. In order for me to turn the computer off I have to hit the power switch on the power supply. If anyone knows how this can be fixed it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me and ask if you need anymore information. Thanks.

Answer:Computer starts up, but nothing appears on-screen.

Sorry

The memory Crucial.com said was compatible with my mobo was PC2700 not PC3200. Even though the lower density (256MB and 512MB) are PC3200 the 1 GB is PC2700. The man said that the only memory that will work with the mobo is PC3200 unbuffered, non-ECC, and CL3. I found that the memory Crucial.com gave me was PC2700, unbuffered, non-ECC and CL2.5. Will this have any effect?

windows starts and then the screen slowly goes black but if you tilt the computer you can still see very faint images

Answer:computer starts and then the screen goes black

Whenever you can move or vibrate a computer to change what happens it is a hardware fault. Possibly a screen fault, or backlight. A connection fault is always possible but the effects are usually quite sudden.EDIT:Another thought. It could simply be that tilting enables you to see something that is very dim rather than it being an intermittent fault (which is what I had in mind above). In which case there are quite a lot of possibilities for a dim screen, mostly along the lines suggested. Go to BIOS then watch the screen for a while and see if it fades there. If so it is definitely a hardware fault - fairly certain anyhow.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Well for the past month my computer has been freezing or my mouse froze requiring a reboot, but when I started it up again the screen would go black and not do anything then I would turn it off and turn it back on and it would start up normally.

A couple days ago I had to reformat my computer cause I kept getting a computer crash leading to a blue screen.

Just today my computer froze when I started up a game, then I turned off my computer and again the booting up with black screen happens again but this time, it will not start up at all even after several times turning off and trying to turn back on.

Idk if this helps but my keyboard lights quickly flash then they go off and my keyboard dont work.

Anymore info you might need just ask. I would like to know whats wrong.

Answer:Computer starts but screen goes black.

Hmm, I'm guessing you might have a mobo problem, did you happen to look at your biso specs right before your pc went out ans saw what the cpu and systems temps were ?

Also please post your specs so that we can help you out further, by the way what were you doing on your pc before the problems started to arise ?

So about a week ago, I woke up to the fire alarm and the smell of something burning. It was coming from the computer, and as I shut it down, something sparked. I got a replacement powersupply sent to me, and recently installed it.Everything powers on (fans, lights, etc.) but the screen stays dark. I have tried a few different monitors, and cables... as well as switching the CMOS battery. I unplugged everything and re-plugged it, removed the graphics card, and RAM, and still can't seem to get this thing to start.I am typing this on my phone, so I didn't include system specs, but can easily get them if requested. I just would like to figure out what is up.Sorry if English or Grammar is bad.Thank you

Hello,

I got a couple of problems with my XP computer..

I bought Zone Alarm Xtreme security couple of months ago, since then every time I do a scan, the computer shuts down!!

After a conversation with Zone Alarm, the suggested I disable all Services except for Windows and Zone Alarm ones. Did a scan -> same problem! + Boot.ini error comes up.

Yesterday, I decided to try out Norton 360. Did a scan, the screen went yellow.
I rebooted the computer - starts fine, only nothing on the screen (black).
I hooked up the screen to another PC, and it works fine.

Is this a graphics card issue? or something to do with the Boot.ini file being corrupted?

Would a gfx card reset solve the problem?
Appreciate your help.
Thanks
Totti

Answer:Computer starts, screen won't + antivirus issues

Hi, hmmm seems youve got a few probs there, ok well We will 1st try to rebuild that Missing file,

Ok Have you got your XP install disc??

If so: Pop it in and boot from the disc, perss any key when prompted.
From there you should be able to Get access to the RECOVERY CONSOLE, By pressing R i think.....

Then type this command: bootcfg /rebuild

Ok Im presuming you dont have multiple Antivirus programs installed??
As you should only have ONE as they will more than likley Conflict with one another if you have two or More......

Choose one Antivirus and uninstall the rest.

Now Download, install and update; MalwareBytes
Restart your Comp, Do a quick scan and post the Log here.

Good luck.

So whenever I turn on my computer it starts with a pink screen and will not change. Sometimes after waiting about 30-45 minutes it will show the Windows screen and I'm able to get to the desktop where I can open a browser, but almost immediately it minimizes and nothing can be done to maximize it. I can't open anything without it sticking on minimize. There are no icons on my desktop anymore and I don't have a bar at the bottom with options for volume etc The computer is 8 months old and worked fine until it was unplugged and not in use for about a month. Now ever since starting it up again it's doing this.

Good day to you all and i thank you for taking time to look at my dilemma . I am not sure whether this qualifies as a crash problem as i have never encountered a BSOD but i suspect that it is the closet sign to it. Well i have an hp pavilion g7 1251si laptop with i5-2430M 4Gb RAM 64bit OS win 7 Prem AMD Radeon HD 6470M.............. it runs pretty smoothly except for one rather daunting problem , the screen suddenly starts ghosting out of nowhere. I have had some experience with computers but this problem is one i have never heard of ............ there is no BSOD or error message after i switch off the laptop off and on again ............. and it does not do this ghosting consistently or after a specific time or task . So i can be doing something as simple as document editing and it happens. It has been more than 3 months since it last occurred and it has only happened about 5 times in the year since i purchased this laptop. Its still under warranty but i cannot go and claim it if i cannot specifically show them the problem and regardless am not comfortable with backing up and transferring all my files all over again. I am worried that this is an issue that if not dealt with could have future repercussions so any assistance is greatly appreciated. My laptop is Inspiron n5110 which has Windows 10. When I turn it on, the laptop turned on well. But the screen is not turning on. It is not black screen issue. The screen has got no power. It is just dead,
I have tried to release the flea power by holding on the power button lot of times after removing all the external connections. The issue is not resolved.
Also I tried to start the laptop by removing one of the ram sticks. I have removed one by one and tried both the Ram sticks. Still the issue is not resolved.

Answer:Computer restarts once windows screen loader starts

Normally a 0x7B error is "Inaccessible_boot_device" meaning that either the hard drive has bad sectors and is dying or you have a driver issue with your ide controller.

Try booting in Safe mode and see if that works.

Hello, i am trying to fix a computer for my company but im not sure what the issue is.

1. The computer is on, but has blank screen. I held the power button to turn it off, waiting 1 minute and started it back up. I got the "windows has been shut down improperly" screen. I told it startup like normal and i see the Windows XP icon and the loading bar underneath. But then the screen goes black and the moniter just sits there on, with just black.

I thinking it may be either the RAM card has an error of the motherboard itself is failing, but im not sure how to test these. Any and all help would be greatly appriciated.

After downloading all the windows xp updates, the stop messages stoped and the computer ran great. However, after the second restart and all consecutive restarts after that the computer doesnt load up into windows.

" When you start your computer, the Microsoft Windows XP startup screen appears, and then the computer may restart. The Windows XP logon screen does not appear. " Appears to state my problem exactly. The windows loading bar apears, but as soon as it fininishes the screen turns black and nothing hapens. The only thing that seems to work for me is reinstalling or repairing windows. Which takes a good 30-50 minutes. And after that is finished I am back to the stop error messages etc...that sare solved with the windows updates. However once the updates are isntalled the computer doesnt boot into windows after the first restart.

I have been looing at the windows xp help page and found this:

I have tried to follow the instructions step by step but it doesnt work. When I get into the recovery I do the first step. If this is the wrong forum, where does this go???
Last week I started up my computer and right before the logon screen was supposed to show up, it just restarted. (I guess it was a blue screen?) It told me that Windows failed to start the last time and it asked me if I wanted to use Startup Repair. Since I had nothing to lose, I just went ahead. So then it kept saying "Your computer was unable to start" and it asked me if I wanted to do system restore, but I thought that would be useless, as half of the time System Restore in Windows Recovery Environment doesn't work for me!!1 It really wasn't doing anything, so I just went ahead and turned the computer off. So when I started it up, instead of Starting Windows, I see the Windows Vista boot screen. Oddly enough, it's faster than the normal boot screen. Now, before anyone asks me if anything related to Vista is on my computer, the answer to that question is no. All I really want to know is how to restore it back to the Windows 7 boot screen. I tried bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US, but that didn't work. I would have tried bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US, but I didn't want to run into any problems.

Are there any other ways to fix this? Not that it's a problem or anything, it just looks... wrong.

Thank you in advance for any answers.

If you ask if I'm able to start my computer now, the answer to that is yes.

Answer:Computer starts up with Windows Vista boot screen

Obvious question shadow is is this machine upgraded from Vista to 7?

My PC was given to me as a gift, but I was given it used from the previous owner and later found out it was refurbished. It is a Gateway NV53A. I have always had issues with BSOD's and Windows errors, and most of them either driver or memory related. I fixed and updated all drivers, but never did anything about memory except maybe some tests and they all came out fine. 3 days ago, I was using my PC just browsing a Web page and suddenly the screen went black. I thought it was the lcd, but I closed the lid to see if it would go into standby mode and it just stood there powered on and frozen... The only way it would react was if I manually turned it off holding power button. Sometimes it does boot up, sometimes it gets farther than others. What I mean is, sometimes it gets past the Gateway logo and crashes there, sometimes it boots up to to the home screen, and sometimes it doesn't even boot... How far it gets depends on how long the PC has been turned off. Odd I know... Anyways, I found out my motherboard requires ram with 1066mhz fsb whereas the current ram sticks it has installed are 800mhz.... I was told new ram with 1066mhz would fix my issues and allow my PC tu boot and run fine as it always did, but I just wanted to be sure that's my Issue, and I also wanted to know how come the computer ran fine (with the exception of BSOD's and some errors occurring every now and then) before and now suddenly I'm screwed. I'm currently using two 2GB DDR3 Ram memory sticks. The brand an... Read more

Answer:Computer starts, boots up and freezes at black screen

There is no issue in running slower (800mhz) RAM in a system that can run the faster (1066mhz) RAM. This, alone, will not cause this kind of problem. You got bad advice.

Do you know if this was the original RAM that came with the laptop? (Not very important but good info if you know)

It is possible that the RAM is defective, or the wrong specs for that laptop, or the two sticks have mis-matched specs, but if you ran a memory tester like Memtest86+ then any problems would have shown up there.

Your symptoms sound more like a power problem. At least that is where I would start. One thing you could try as a test is to remove the battery and run the laptop on just the power supply. Let's see if that changes anything.

last night my computer froze and i had to shut it down holding the power button. since then when i have tried to turn it on, it first looks like its gonna load, but then goes to the screen w/ the 3 safe mode options to start in, and to start in windows normally. the arrow keys will not work for me, so i cant get to safe mode and dont know how. after it waits for 30 seconds, it will start in normal mode, and go the the screen where it looks like its gonna load, the "Windows XP Professional" screen, where there is the time bar thing (not sure what thats called). once it is there, the screen will turn black and then restart and go back to the startup page w/ the safe mode options and normal mode option. rinse and repeat. i dont know what to do and any help will be appreciated. thanks!

Answer:Computer Starts And Goes To Boot Screen But Wont Start Up

If using keys at boot won't work and XP can't start then you could try using you XP installation disk to boot windows or try a linux OS on a dvd. If you still can't get it to go then try a repair install off the XP disk. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

So i just bought a new Gigabyte GTX 770, had a 650 before and everything worked. I have the Gigabyte GA-970a-ud3 mainboard with 2 PCI-E Slots, both 16x but one runs with 4x. If i put the graphics card in the top slot (16x) LEDs light up and fans start running , i hear the windows 7 welcome screen sound through the speakers but the screen stays black, but if i put the card in the bottom slot (4x) everything works, besides the fact that the graphics card is slow as hell.
Both PCI power cables plugged into it, i tried removing all drivers, resetting cmos.
I dont know what could possibly be wrong but maybe you do, so thanks in advance

I have a refurbished, out-of-warranty Gateway Profile 5 desktop. The screen is totally blank. I contacted Gateway. They are pretty confident the built-in display is defective. I was able to attach a second display which would also go blank just after the Windows XP Pro splash screen appeared. Using the 2nd display, I was able to access the bios. When I looked at the display setup, it was set to LCD & CRT. Not thinking, I changed the setting to LCD since I wasn't using a CRT. That disconnected my 2nd display, so I now have two totally blank screens. How can I re-access the 2nd display and then also avoid a blank screen when Windows XP boots up?

Dell vostro 220

My computer was lagging and wasn't connecting to the internet properly, and then it froze so I shut it down. When I started it back up, the BIOS loaded but then went to a blank black screen with a mouse. I can move the mouse around. It won't load any further. I've tried all the safe modes and it does the same thing. And I tried cleaning all the dust off the computer. I've tried waiting at that screen for longer than 3 hours. It just stays there.

It's possible that it's a virus but I don't know. How can I solve this problem? Because I can't get into the computer to do a system restore. Please help, thank you!

Basically what the title says. I have a new computer which I spent about 1300 dollars on. I built it myself and everything ran fine for about 6 months until I tried to overclock it. The bios and overclocking are pretty ***** proof since the motherboard is fairly new. You literally hit one button from normal to overclock. Since then when I boot the computer up the computer comes on for about 3 seconds, the monitor doesn't react at all, then it shuts itself off for another 3 seconds then boots up normally. Any ideas what the problem is or how to fix it? I've seen some similar cases on here but they aren't exactly the same.

Answer:I overclocked now my computer starts, turns itself off, then starts back up fine

Yes, turn off overclocking!

I have an Acer laptop which is about two years old. It started to run slowly and not very efficiently - then the screen started to go blank. Sometimes it goes blank when i am using it or when i am not. . I can see the computer is actually still processing so the whole computer does not shut down. I would be able to reboot and then the computer would be fine again. It started to do this more and more frequently until it was happening every couple of minutes and then my computer stopped booting up and loading software. I took my laptop to a recommended pc repair shot who reinstalled windows (unfortunately). It definitely was running much better and the screen stopped going blank. about 10 days later and the computer is running well still but the screen is starting to go blank again regularly - every 10-20 minutes! is this a virus/software/hardware??? thanks in advance for any help you are able to give me!

Answer:My computer screen keeps going blank even thought the computer is still running.

When the system is operating properly, set a System Restore point.

Then start out by updating all drivers and programs to the latest avalilable version.
Get all drivers from the PC Manufacturer's website, and get the updated programs from the program manufacturer's website. If you cannot find an update for a program older than 2 years, uninstall it.

Then visit Windows Update and get all updates
Then visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center
Then visit Windows Update and get any other available updates

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Hi,
I am a newbie on the site and I am in need of help. First time I responded to an old thread, so I hope I am doing this correctly this time.
We have a computer
AMD athlon 3000+ w/heatsink and fan
1 gig 2700 ddr333 ram with heatsinks over ram sticks
fx5200 128 mb
aopen mobo ak79d400vn
520 watt atx power supply

Problem: Tried to upgrade video card to 6600. Installed it and drivers and the computer starts up, fan is running, but nothing else a blank screen. Purchased off ebay mainly for processor and mobo to upgrade son's computer. Thought this would solve son's gaming problems ( BF2 should be hung for its greediness in cpu and video power) Now I am stuck.
Brought it to the repair shop and the guy said mobo fried and continued to tell me how bad the AMD cpu's are and tried to make me one for $$$$. Is the guy right?
Question: Is there a way to tell if the mobo is indeed blown and /or the cpu and can I change out the processor into another computer? I hate to think nothing can be salvaged on it.
I hope I haven't forgotten to say anything- Please forgive !

Answer:Computer screen blank

The guy is not right. Amd cpus are very good. For gaming they're tops, and for normal tasks they're no slouch either. My guess is he'd rather make the $$$$(big bucks), than make just a few $$(bucks) helping you fix your current one.

So, are you saying your system works with the 5200, but when you install the 6600, it doesn't work? If so, what sysptoms does it give? Lights, noises, fans, etc.

You could put the cpu into another pc with the same socket type(it also has to support the same cpu bus speed), to test it. Or you could swap the motherboard in your current pc and see if it works then, but both tasks are somewhat of a pain(the cpu will need thermal grease applied, and motherboards take a while to remove). You probably have a "socket A" amd cpu, since you say athlon, and not athlon64.

Also, your new card may be stressing your psu, if it's underpowered/faulty. You might want to list the brand and specs(amps per voltage rail), if you know the info.

I have a Vaio Laptop. When I turn it on, it shows the logo and then it goes to a blank screen. I don't know how to get into safe mode (the f8 key does not go to safe mode). When I turn off the comp and turn it back on again, it still goes to the blank screen. I can get to the setup menu but that's about it. Any help would be appreciated.P.S. I only say blank screen because the color is off and I can't see part of the left side of the screen. So any advice regarding a blinking cursor or blue screen is appreciated as well. Thank you.

Answer:blank computer screen

Any beeps when you switch it on? Any changes to the PC lately, crashes (or more frequent crashes), blue screens? Any strange noises from the unit when it's on? Possibilites include overheating (and subsequent damage to the CPU) or failing power supply. If the guarantee has run out you can take the side off the machine and see if loads of dust and fluff has collected inside and around the fans, that would point to overheating, but it sounds as if the damage has already been done on that front.

When playing particular computer games (CIV IV and Oblivion) after a short while my screen just goes blank, and the power button goes from green to amber. The computer itself seems to carry on as normal. If I am playing Football Manager or just using itunes the screen never goes blank. I have to turn the computer off and then on again to re-use the computer, there then appear to be no apparent problens (unless I try and play either of the games again). Any help on how to solve this would be much appreciated.

I have a sony RZ402P from approx 5 years ago. Now it was playing up lately so i decided to format it so i did. so after finish formatting put all the backup files and folders and updated to SP3 and install all the updates. Then it was working well after a few restarts and shutdowns.

3 hours later my mum decide to use it but it didn't come up the screen still on standby (blinking) and the keyboard lock keys come on then goes off again. So i diced to investigate the problem. I even tried removing the cleaning CPU Fan(whcih caused the problem the last time), RAM. As am deaf, my parent saids it not sounding right. and the DVD drives wouldn't open fully it will just peek out then back in, nothing is responding. So i took the HDD out to use on my current working PC to backup all the files.

I think its dead? Any ideas which i can try?

My computer screen is blank! I've been having some problems for the past week or two with my computer and then yesterday I went away from it for a while and when I came back it looked like the "blue screen of death" was up but there was no text, just a blank blue screen. Now whenever I start up nothing happens, it seems like everything works on the tower but there's just a blank screen, and the light on the moniter blinks like there's nothing to read.
The only recent hardware added was a wireless network a few weeks ago, but it seems to work fine. Recent problems include having to update my sound driver due to cpu restarting and now this, however I have had plenty of graphics card problems, but not for a while.

Built the computer a year ago and haven't had much problems after the first month or two. I'm running windows XP with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card, and ECS socket 478 motherboard, and a 350W power supply, if you need any more info on specs let me know. I figured it's one of these 3 screwing up, so is there any way to test it or something I can do?

My computer screen goes blank like it was going to sleep but I do not have it set to hibernate, I have it set to stay on all the time. When it goes blank I am not able to bring the screen back up, I have to hold the reset button (start button) for about
15 seconds and then the computer shuts off. After it is off I am able to press the start button once again and when it does it ask me what mode I want to start in (safe mode or regular mode).

What could be wrong?

Hello everyone I am new here but so far reading all the topics it seems pretty helpful! Anyway I'm pretty good at repairing puters but I went all new style on my new one and I have nothing to test my equipment with. Im building a higher end gaming system so I went with SLI setup, now everything is new and is all made for SLI, yet at boot up all I get is a blank screen and one long beep followed by two short. Easy enough the booklet on the video card says that it means the video card or motherboard is bad, well without the video card in the same beeps happen, also the north bridge cooler gets pretty warm, normal?   Note: At first start-up it ran fine, installed xp and ran NFS Most Wanted smooth, then started a defrag and bam black screen of death. reseated the card, reset bios, and check RAM presto it worked for about 5min then froze.550w PS w/ SLIEVGA 6800 PCI-eAsus A8N-SLI mb w/ AMD3500512mb pc3200Coolermaster water coolerAnybody expericence the same problem? Hello,

I was just using my PC last night surfing the internet and doing some other things, but then my screen just went blank and it popped up saying no DVI connection or whatever. My PC still had power and all the fans were going and everything seemed like it had power. My pC has done this before but it was because my 8800GT got to hot and overheated. So I checked the cables and everything was tight so then I shut of my PC and waited a little while and turned it back on and got nothing not even the bios/bootup screen but everything had power and all my fans were running including the one on my 8800GT. Just nothing on my screen. So I turned it off again took off the side of my case and checked everything in there and everything was tight. So then I just left it off overnight and this morning tried again but still got nothing just power. So I decided to unplug everything and have only my memory and hard drive(s) plugged in and my Graphics card and tried just that and I still got nothing just power to my graphics card fan, PSU, and the CPU/heatsink fan. So I don't know what could be the problem. Do you think my graphics card could have gone bad and if so how do I switch back to my on board graphics, or if not what else could be the problem.
