Preferred Solution: IE8 Reopen Last Browsing Session

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just wrote a long post and it disappeared while trying to run that spell check on it. Very annoying.

Here, again, is my problem:

When I close IE 8 or 9 with several tabs open, and later reopen it, the option to reopen or restore the last browsing session is ALWAYS grayed out in both the menu under Tools and on the New Tab pages.

I had a nasty rootkit infection of volsnap.sys that was mostly affecting IE, which was detected and removed by ComboFix with help from MajorGeeks, just a week or two ago.

Since it was always changing the mischief it did, mostly regarding IE, I suspect that "part of it" is still on my machine.

A MS support forum led me through several steps to try to fix this, including uninstalling and reinstalling IE 9. Then they gave up and said I had to reformat my HD and reinstall my OS. I suspect that wouldn't be enough...

I really depend on this function, and have used IE for many, many years, and don't want to switch browsers. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,
Barb

Answer:reopen last browsing session grayed out in IE

Reformatting and reinstalling your OS most definitely will get rid of any nasties present on your system. If you do a clean install, as suggested, I'll be your browser's behavior returns to normal.

I have Windows 8.1 using IE11 and I am unable to reopen browsing history. It is always gray shaded. It doesn't matter how I close it or if I reboot. If I close IE and reboot, it's gray shaded. If I don't close every tab - just leave them all open and close IE - then open IE again without restarting, it is gray shaded.

I seen some other posts about this that aren't quite the same problem (and/or haven't been resolved) and someone mentioned that it's gray shaded because there is no browsing history to reopen. Trust me, there is. I don't delete my browsing history after each session. Besides, everything is in my history folder - my browsing history is just fine. I just can't reopen previous sessions.

I have not been able to find help anywhere so I thought I'd finally ask.

I just downloaded internet explorer 9. Previously, I was using IE8. Every day, when ie8 would open up (it would load automatically at startup from AOL IM), I would go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, and all the tabs and pages I had open when I closed my previous session would load (though in reverse order left to right, annoyingly).

Now that I'm running IE9, when I go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, the option is greyed out - it does not work. The only time it works is if I close IE9 and then reopen the browser without rebooting. If I reboot, which I do every day, the option is not available like it used to be in IE8. (Seems like every time I download an updated version of anything anymore, something inevitably stops working or is worse than it was before - this soooo tiresome.)

I've tried a regedit I found somewhere on these forums - setting for 'turn off reopen last browsing session' to 'disable'. Didn't work.

I do not have IE9 set to delete my browsing history on exit.

I have the box checked for Automatically recover from page layout errors with compatibility view.

So, currently I'm out of ideas - can't find anything else.

I would really appreciate it if anyone who knows what is going on with this could share.

Answer:IE9 Reopen Last Browsing Session option is not working

So does anyone else have this problem? Since the Reopen Last Browsing Session is kind of a deal breaker, I would have thought that there'd be a fix by now. But maybe the fix is to uninstall IE9 afterall. So much for IE9. Firefox and Chrome do this anyway, correctly, even WITHOUT having to select an option. I'd skip IE altogether if I didn't need it for work.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and experiencing a huge inconvenience. The reopen last browsing session does not work. I locked the computer last night via Windows key + L. This morning when I wanted to resume my work, I found the computer had installed updates and rebooted. I opened Internet Explorer but reopen last browsing session was grayed out so not an option. I had 8 tabs open but now I have nothing. I never had such a problem with XP, Vista, or Windows 7. Any suggestions to solve this would be appreciated.

Answer:"reopen last browsing session" not working

Hello Doug, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Sometimes when the computer restarts like that, the last browsing session is not remembered. Usually this works best when you close IE instead.

In addition, you may see a "Restore session" message at the bottom of IE when IE was unexpectedly closed from a restart or IE crash.

My ie 10 is set up so that "new tab" shows my "frequent" pages (2 rows of 5). However for some unknown reason about 2 weeks ago it stopped showing anything in the thumbnails.
I have attached a screenshot to show what I mean.
The only thing that I can think of around that time that I changed is just I know that I changed the option in explorer's view files to make my thumbnails/icons to show the preview image on them (instead of just the generic folder icon or whatever). But I doubt that would have any relation to this starting.

Also, since its on ie also, I have another BIG irritation, and this one has been screwed for a LONG time... I can NEVER use "reopen last browsing session" in tools & only about 1 in 5 times AT MOST can I use "reopen closed tabs" on "new tab's" page. It does not seem to matter under what situation the tabs were closed (by user, force closed by ie, etc). I actually use Chrome a lot more DUE TO THIS not working! Any clue why? It usually not even clickable however when it is, after I click on it, nothing happens except the option then just becomes unclickable.

Thank you for any assistance.

Answer:"frequent" thumbnails + "reopen last browsing session"

The first issue can be caused by clearing the browser's history.

I would recommend up upgrade to Windows 8.1 and get IE 11.

I am using Windows 8 with IE10 and for some weird and wonderful reason, the "reopen last session" is greyed out. I saw on the Windows 7 forum that there was a download fix for that but didn't dare to take that on for Windows 8.
Any ideas as to a simple fix for this snag?

Answer:Reopen last session greyed out

Hello Gloosecap,

The Reopen Last Browsing Session option would only not be grayed out if there was an actual last session to reopen. If you cleared your browser history after closing IE10, then there will be nothing to reopen.

If that wasn't the case, then you could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to enable Reopen Last Browsing Session in IE10 to see if that may help.

I have tried upgrading from IE9 to 11 on both my Windows 7 computers. One worked with no problems, but the other gives repeated problems despite trying a number of things. I have uninstalled and reinstalled four or five times but the problems remain.
1. History gets wiped out and remains blank no matter how many sites I visit.
2. I have to re-enter user name/password every time I leave a site and return
3. If I click new tab it is always blank and the option to reopen last session is greyed out

I even tried IE10 but had the same problems.

In internet explorer when i open it up and restore my last session it opens up many windows, including my last session, a session i may have had 2 weeks ago and other sessions?

Answer:Internet explorer last browsing session opens up many session points!

I believe this is the explanation of why this happens....

Quote:
The behavior of Internet Explorer only remembering the very last window closed is by design.
This happens because each new window becomes a new session.
Internet Explorer is designed to remember the last, not necessarily the most important, window/session that was open.

just installed IE8 the other day, and need some advice. i have CCleaner installed on my pc, and whenever i have finished on the internet, i run CCleaner. but i noticed that IE8, still has my browsing history, if i open a new tab and click on 're-open last browsing session'. why is CC not deleting this info? i know that IE8 has the option to 'delete browsing history on exit', but if i have this box checked, it takes about 20secs to close my browser window. is there a way round this, or is it something i just have to live with, unless i go back to IE7?

Answer:re-open last browsing session on IE8

IE8 is still in Beta testing. There have been instances where IE 8 has caused machines to become unbootable. I highly recommend going back to IE 7 until IE 8 has officially been released. As for the CC problem:Open CC and make sure all of the boxes are checked under "Internet Explorer". Some of them include Temporary internet files, cookies and history.Go to options and then advanced and uncheck the box labeled "Only delete temporary files older than 48 hours"Now run CC again.

I am using IE8 for some time now.Recently I installed IE8-XP over IE8-RC1.Then the trouble started. Whenever I start the browser and try to open the "Reopen the last browsing sessions" feature IE8 hangs and I have to always use Task Manager to end the process .But I have observed that in the Processes tab of Task Manager the IE process still runs even after closing the browser. This means a IE8 process may be running in the background and this may be causing the problem.I tried to kill this IE8 process in through Task Manager but it is not closing. So please help me to solve this problem,As I have to reopen all the tabs one by one every time.I surf a lot for my project and "Reopen the last browsing sessions" feature is very helpful.Thank You. - Helmi.

Earlier tonight, my computer crashed unexpectedly. I restarted the computer and reopened Firefox, expecting to see the relief-inducing "Well, this is embarrassing . . ." Restore Session page. When this did not happen, I quickly Googled appropriate courses of action. I have explored the Profile folder to no avail; there is one file called sessionCheckpoints.json, and within a subfolder "sessionstore-backups", I have three options: "previous" and "recovery", which will not let me open them, and "recovery.bak", which, like the Checkpoints file, might let me open it if I were willing to let my computer seek out the program it requires for this action. Due to my general inexperience with computers, I am reluctant to give my laptop that kind of free rein, especially because the Internet told me to look for files named "sessionrestore.js" and sessionrestore.bak", neither of which are in evidence.
From there, I desperately hoped that typing "about:sessionrestore" into the location bar might yield some sort of belated Valentine's Day miracle, but it did not. I was also alarmed to read that one should not open a new browsing window under these circumstances because it overwrites the old session information files, but I had to do that in order to Google everything and post this.
I am now well beyond the means of my limited computer skills (this is also why I haven't mentioning my operating system; I don... Read more

This is the message often showing on the bottom of Internet Explorer 9 on someone elses computer.  The user will open Internet Explorer, use it for some time, and close it.  He is done with what he needed; but either when IE is opened again, it will show that message Or IE will open on its own after being closed and will show the message:  Last browsing session closed unexpectedly. Retore?

How do we know what to look for?  How do we know what to investigate?

That computer with IE 9 is with Windows 7, brand is Hewlett-Packard.
Additional information - I do not know if this helps any, but I often use a couple of portable internet browsers on usb flash drive with that same machine and have no problems.

Answer:I.E. 9, Last browsing session closed unexpectedly. Restore?

Try clearing your IE cache files - cookies, history, temp.files.  The unexpected error usually comes from the computer suddenly restarted or shutdown due to power loss or thermal events. Atleast IME, this is how this error comes about so it is somehow normal that the message would ask you to restore the last browsing session. If it comes on every normal bootups, then its kind a different problem you are facing. But try clearing the cache files and check the difference.

When I open IE10 after a fresh boot or system restart, I often get the message "Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly", with the choices of opening last session or going to my homepage. But when I select "open the last session" it doesn't open my previous tabs, instead it pops open many separate new windows, all of which go to my homepage. Usually the "Restore previous session" function in the Tools menu is greyed out in all of them at that point so I can't even get my previous tabs back even though that's what the recovery feature was supposed to have done.

When I searched for this problem I discovered it has been going on for at least the past three major versions of IE with many people complaining about it. How can Microsoft allow such a well-known bug to continue to go unfixed for so many years? Anyway, the answer I found on this site which goes all the way back to IE8 suggests disabling Crash Recovery, but believe it or not I want to be able to use crash recovery to restore what I was actually looking at in case of, you know, a crash. Or the more common scenario is not even a crash, I just want to reboot my machine periodically and then restore the tabs I was looking at.

Is there any other way to solve this besides disabling a feature I try to rely on?

Answer:IE10 - Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly

Try and clear the cache,
Open ie,
Ctrl+Shift+Delete or Alt+TD
Uncheck the top box and check all of the others/ You can uncheck the form fills box if you wish to,
Click on Delete.

Hi, I'm using Win7 SP1 64 bit Home Premium and when I open an IE window after turning on the computer I get a popup saying "Last browsing session closed unexpectedly" with the choices of opening last session or going to homepage. I've chosen both and also clicked on the X to close the popup and it always goes to my homepage.

The reason I'm posting is I always close IE by clicking the X, and then turning the computer off via the start menu, never with the on-off button. It doesn't seem to me like it has closed unexpectedly as in having crashed.

This is a minor annoyance but there is no reason for it to happen when it hasn't crashed, thanks for any topic views and replies.

OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit Home Premium (up to date)
Browser: IE8, FireFox (up to date)
Dual Boot: XP Pro SP3 on mechanical HD (D), Win7 SP1 on SSD (C)

Answer:Get message "Last browsing session closed unexpectedly" when open IE

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced.

Uncheck "Enable Automatic Crash Recovery" in the Browsing section.

The reason for the crash in the first place could be things like Adobe Flash, Java or an Add-on.

Hi,

I have problem with session manager's session files.

The problem is:
The submitted storage data from firefox which is put between "storage":{ and its matching closing brace }
But in some of my session files there is non equal { and } under storage's braces.

I need to get storage data but in my case it is very hard to do programmatically because finding "storage":{ 's matching brace is impossible because of the non equal { and } in storage data.

My question: is there any character put before or after { and } like /{ or \{ to avoid confusion?

If there is not such thing, I think there could be different solution but i am not sure:
I look couple of my session files; after "storage":{...} there is ,_"formDataSaved" so i can get storage data in this example ... by looking between "storage":{ and ,"_formDataSaved" easily. Is there every time ,"_formDataSaved" after "storage":{ ?
like:

Code:
"storage":{ ... },"_formDataSaved":true
Thank you.

This one is very simple to do.

Anyone using http session can be easily hijacked
Just sniff the http session of a website using wireshark
Note the captured Cookie

open a web browser
Add the name and value of captured cookie. save it.

open the website . Now you are logged into someone else account.

You can do anything on that website , which is allowed to be done without asking for username and password. All this just by using the sniffed cookies.
Anyone can sniff on data traveling through hub, switches, router that you are using to connect to internet. They can easily hijack your http sessions.

it seems firefox cannot tell the difference between a crash, or if you just have the browser open while shutting down/rebooting

apparently this is a bug, but im just curious.. is there anyway for the restore session option to still be available if theres a crash, but for the message to not come up if the browsers open and you shutdown/reboot?

Answer:firefox restore session/start new session

That is a bug that has been entered into the bug report that may or may not be corrected in the future. As it stands now, Firefox can't distinguish between a crash and an unexpected closure.
The only options that I know for now is to type about:config in the address bar of Firefox and hit Enter. Go to browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash and set it to false
This will disable the restore session.
You could try this to disable the message, but it will always be disabled until you remove the preference.
Go into about:config and Right-click in the list and select New> String.
Enter browser.sessionstore.restore_prompt_uri as the pref's name.
Enter javascript:window.close(); as the pref's value.
Close Firefox and the message shouldn't appear. If it doesn't work, just delete the preference.

Finalise the CD under Nero. This means you cannot write more to it, but it should populate the TOC and enable you to see all sessions.

I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell XPS410. When I close Internet Explorer or Microsoft Outlook, I often (but not always) get a message "Internet Explorer (or Microsoft Outlook) has stopped working" and then the program will reopen by itself. As Outlook reopens, I get a message that it was not closed properly and it's checking for errors, and lately I'm also asked if I want to reopen in Safe Mode. Occasionally I'll get a message that IE has stopped working even when I don't close it myself, and all pages will close.

Not sure if this is a related problem or not, but occasionally I have emails that stay in the outbox even after sending (and stay open on the monitor after I hit "send"), but they also show up in the Sent box, so it's difficult to know if they actually were sent. I believe (but I'm not sure) that it's only happening when they have multiple photos attached, so they are large emails and I'm sending them on a 28.8k dialup modem, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help!

Can anybody get me in contact with Acer? I want to reopen my support case because my laptop is starting to die again, even after they "fixed" it.

Because my warranty is supposedly a week out of date I am unable to get in contact with a single person from Acer to tell them to reopen [edited for privacy] because their support clearly did not solve the problem. I am experiencing the exact same problem that led to my needing to send in my laptop. It is worsening and probably going to lead to a huge nasty crash again.

And I have reason to believe that the cause is bad hardware that my Acer Aspire Nitro was shipped with, because THIS time, when I saw the BSODs, I looked them up. I've been receiving a "Kernel Data Inpage Error" which apparently means that my memory or my hard drive is faulty. (And yes, I did the recommended things on that page. Nothing has helped or identified a problem. At all.)

This issue SHOULD be covered under warranty, not only because it is an issue that started during the year of warranty, but ALSO because Acer claimed to have fixed the issue but DID NOT, and ALSO because their warranty clearly states "Acer warrants that its Products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the Limited Warranty Period" and my computer CLEARLY CAME WITH FAULTY HARDWARE.

Answer:I need to reopen an issue with acer

Hi lsilich04,

We have to have some date for the warranty to end, but we certainly aren't interested in leaving you out in the cold less than a week out. I was able to locate your information and the US service team updated the warranty through the end of the month. This will allow you to contact and setup services as needed.

In reading your post, I would have to disagree that a kernel error means a hardware error. The Kernel is part of the core of the Windows operating system and is completely software, when that crashes, it would result in the bluescreens and lockups. When your unit was in originally, I show that memory tests and hard drive tests were done, and a reload of the operating system corrected the issue. Now, after 3 months, you're starting to experience blue screens again, and I would suspect that some corruption has occured in the operating system. With all of this said, I would suggest attempting a recovery first, see how the system behaves. If there was a hardware error, it would also fail during the recovery process.

Hello,
I have an excel 2000 file (size: 12.5MB). The file is stored on a NT file server. The server is connected on a switch (A). The client PC that tried to access the file is on a BNC cable connection that connects to a 10Mbps hub and this hub connects to another 10Mbps hub and this hub goes to the switch (A). The problem happened when the user tried to update the Excel file. He opened it from the server. He made some modifications to the data and then he pressed the saved button. Excel 2000 begun saving (file.xls) and finally the following error message appeared on screen: "DOCUMENT SAVED SUCESSFULLY. CAN NOT REOPEN THE SAVED DOCUMENT DUE TO LOW MEMORY. PLEASE CLOSE THE DOCUMENT". If I press OK button then the document will be damaged and will not be opened again, so I tried to save it again. I pressed the save option but instead of saving it, I noticed that the SAVE AS dialog box appeared. I thought that something wrong is going on. I saved the Excel file on the SERVER using another filename (file2.xls). The saving process was successful. I closed Excel 2000 and I loaded again. I tried to open the Excel file (file.xls) but the opening failed with the following error message: "FILE file.xls is not in recognizable form ". I'm using safe mode w networking at the moment to get onto the net right now, but in normal mode, I open IE and whilst it will initially load my home page with no problem, after a few seconds it will "Recover" or try to recover the tab, and will do this repeatedly until IE freezes. I've run MBAM and it hasn't helped, and I've tried various troubleshooting processes. The internet connection appears to be OK (I'm using wireless, not LAN). Can anyone help with this? It was working fine up until about 2pm this afternoon when I left it in standby for a few hours, but when I picked it up about half 6, I suddenly found IE wasn't working.I'm running IE8, and I'm using an XP Home Edition OS. Can someone help? Thankyou!

Answer:IE keeps trying to close and reopen pages!

Given the serious nature of some questions here, mine seems silly. Yesterday I received and opened up new laptop with Windows 8. New experience for me. Without realizing what it was, I set up and then closed my
Windows account. I realize now I need to keep it open. Can you tell me how to reopen the account?
Thanks, Markfm3213

Answer:Reopen Windows account

Hello Mark, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you meant that you "closed" your Microsoft account as in to deactivate it like in the tutorial below, then no worries. You can reactivate your Microsoft account by signing in it again online at Microsoft within 365 days of closing it.

Hello,

I clicked the X when it asked if it should load previous session and all my IE8 tabs I had open before the crash was lost.
When I open up IE they doesn't reopen. I've tried "reopen last session" from the Tools menu but with no luck.

Seems like they still are stored in AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active (.dat files) but how do I make IE to open them?

Answer:Reopen lost tabs in IE8

There was a change from IE7 to IE8. Now when you reopen IE, you have to reopen the tabs from your "Favorites" bar. Another good reason to switch to FF.

Hello,
I have an excel 2000 file (size: 12.5MB). After that I tried to open the file2.xls and I SUCCEEDED IN OPENING IT WITHOUT PROBLEMS.

Hello,

I am in need of some assistance with my IE 10 browser, but the problem only happens while using the default MSN homepage.

After closing the web browser a number of times while on MSN, multiple browsers will suddenly reopen. I have noticed that when the browsers reopen, the url is a little different from the original. Here is an example of what some of the urls might look like below.

MSN.com

But when I change my default homepage to another search engine, such as google, yahoo, or bing, this problem does not occur. It only happens on the msn website.

Just today, I have discovered what is causing the browser to do this and it is the TrueSuiteService application that is part of the HP Simplepass program that is already pre-installed on my laptop. When disabled, the problem no longer occurs. However; when it is enabled, the problem will reoccur after a certain amount of times opening and closing the browser.

Here is a screenshot of the application disabled below.

But, here are two screenshots of all the applications that are enable on startup.

Either way, I am unsure of which direction I should take to solve this matter completely. Please help me.

Thank you for your assistance.

Answer:Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing (MSN Only)

Hi Sara welcome to Seven Forums,
I'm glad you took my advise in asking your question here,
Hopefully someone can help soon with your interesting problem, and loaded startup menu,
Cheers.
Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing Default Homepage (MSN - Microsoft Community

Quote from the other thread,
I followed the instructions within the clean boot about background applications and it worked. I discovered that the background TrueSuiteService application from HP in the services tab was what was causing the problem. After disabling it, I no longer had multiple browsers opening up. However, it still boggles my mind that how come it would be this application causing this issue? Also I notice that all the HP products are labeled "Hewlett-Packard Company" in the manufacturer status however; the disabled application is only labeled "HP" as the manufacturer? Could this possibly be a hidden virus on my computer? If so, how do I remove it? end of Quote

I've upgraded to Windows 10 and so far so good. I'm not sure if this is a question for W10 or for the Edge browser...? When opening the browser, I used to be able to see the Top Sites visited, and reopen closed tabs, sometimes even the previous session, and also sites visited on my Windows Phone. Now, I only get 'Top sites' and the MSN news feed. So far I can only find settings to set to open new tabs to Top Sites or a blank page. I'd prefer to be able to easily find recently closed tabs rather than searching through history. And being able to see and open sites from Windows Phone was nice, why is that no longer available?

Answer:How can I reopen closed tabs in Edge?

I guess IE11 could sync my desktop with my other devices including my phone. Not seeing any settings for this in Edge.

In a situation where I have a grouped set of windows (Chrome, Skype, EtC.) and have to minimize any of them, it's a hassle to open them again. I can get windows to open the previews by clicking on the group, but anything within the previews won't work. Right click closes previews. Left click closes previews.
Mind you, I can still get to them. Alt+Tab works, as does Super+Tab. It's just annoying to always have to go that way, especially as I'm using two monitors and have my taskbar on the one that makes it less obtrusive.
I can temporarily fix the problem by restarting, but it takes forever, and I just simple don't like having to restart. I will every once in a while, but again, it doesn't fix the problem. It just delays it.

The only potential cause I can figure out is when I do have to close chrome, I tend to do it by ending the task. This ensures I can recover my tabs that I had open. I don't know if this is the cause, but it's the only thing that seems potentially related, simply due to it being done in relative close proximity to the problem showing up.

I've tried restarting the desktop management system (DWM), changing themes, disabling and reenabling grouping. Nothing is fixing it.

Again, I can get by without it... it's just a major annoyance, and a block to productivity.

Also, if it's a single window, clicking on the task bar icon opens the windows. Once it's a group, then I'm screwed.

Hi- I will be very happy if someone can help me olve this mystery-

I'm using windows ME and IE 6.0- when i try to save a jpeg- the only file type that i can save it as- is a bitmap. If I try to open this "bitmap" that I have save to my disk- i get the "download file" dialog box that tells me that I am trying to download the file from my own hard drive- there is no way for me to open the file. Any ideas, anyone?

Thank You!

Answer:IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

Can't really help you out much.
But there is a way to save in other formats.
In the name box add the image type to the name.

Like this Mypicture.jpg.
On the box that says file type it does not matter what it says when you add the file type to the name.

Now I have 1000's of .jpg files and only 6 .jpeg files. Some image programs will not open the .jpeg so don't use it. Use the .jpg.

Where are you getting these images from?
Are you sure you saved them as a image file or did you save the link to the images?

I would think it's the OS and probably not your PC. I've been having more problems and glitches than ever after the recent updates, especially with Edge. I totally reset my PC, reinstalled everything manually and all was good for about 10 days but now all of a sudden Edge has gone weird again and non of the extensions will work.... AGAIN!.... I love Windows 10 but my patience is getting very thin after constant glitches on production updates as I use it for my work/business. I've actually had fewer problems with W10M on both production and insider releases...

Hello,
I am a network admin deploying Windows Server 2008r2 with Internet Explorer 9 as terminal servers, I am having trouble with an ActiveX element in one of our internal pages. The page requests the CAB file with three files being an INF, OCX &
a DLL.
Running the page as an Administrator. Opening the page for the first time, IE hangs as it gets the CAB file and then will present UAC to allow it to install the ActiveX as an Add On for IE. Each time you come to the page after it will work fine.
Running the page as a user, Every time the user access the page after logging on IE hangs and then will put a red cross in the ActiveX section of the page. If you then close and reopen IE it will then allow the ActiveX element of the page to work fine. The
issue is that the user would have to do this each time they logged on.

Why does the page not work first time the users access the page?
Regards,
Mark

For example, if I use the show desktop button on bottom right of taskbar, it minimizes all windows. You could try IE Reset, "IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button". You lose your add-ons but they soon come back with usage. If so give us the link in case that tells us something. If you have an alternative browser does it happen on there too?I suppose malware is a vague possibility but it doesn't obviously fit the symptoms.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi,
i often find myself closing a web page, then a little later that same session reopening it. Then, as i mainly rely on tethering my phone to my PC for internet, and have only a 2 GB data plan (which is all i can afford), i get concerned about whether each re-opening of a same page doubles its data consumption. (I searched the internet for any answers but could not find any. And the whole world of internet logistics is hopelessly baffling for me to attempt, though i spend countless hours trying!))

Thanks so much for any answers!

My Wifi cuts out at random, and after that my laptop won't reconnect- or connect to any wifi- until I either close the lid, wait for the green light to go off, then reopen, or I restart. This always temporarily fixes the problem. (This actually happened when I first tried to submit this post, so I have to retype the whole thing . This happens within anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours from when I reconnect to wifi, and it seems to be somewhat correlated to me opening new tabs (or submitting a new post ). I don't use my laptop for anything other than casual browsing and school work, so I don't have any weird programs that might cause this. No single event started this, but it's been happening for months. I'd really appreciate any help.

hi does anyone have a solution to windows live mail refusing to reopen after being closed by clicking on the red x that method does not close the program it is still running in the task manager, and the only way to start is to go to the task manager and close it.any solution folks, i found that if you close it from the icon on the task bar

Answer:Windows live mail wont reopen a second tine

*Taken from click here It generally occurs when the send option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *un-checked*, but it does not usually manifest until a new compose window, or a saved draft has been opened. This option is available only when you are signed in, but if it is un-checked it still causes the shutdown bug even when not signed in. So make sure the option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *checked* at: Tools->Options->Send [tab] (available only when signed into Windows Live through WLMail). However, if you do find that "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is actually checked (which it is by default), then just uncheck it and click "Apply", then check it again and click "Apply" again. Some have had to do that to fix their WLMail shut down bug that was occurring despite that option having never been unchecked.

I am uusing Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 7 Ultimate and have been getting the error message: "A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." on a variety of websites. At the suggestion of some troubleshooting sites I have uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it --- this seems to make a temporary fix, but in a couple of days the problem returns. I have done the same with JAVA with no change.
The problem seems to reside in Internet Explorer, since it does not occur with I use Firefox. Anyway, the error slows down my computer when using the web.

I would uninstall McAfee and run the McAfee Removal Tool. You can reinstall it, if desired, after testing.

If the above does not fix it try an IE reset.

I have a Gateway Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack One. It is a 64 bit operating system. 1.7GHZ Processor. 8.00 GB RAM. I have been using Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 on a Gateway Computer with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 and 64 bit.
Recently when I loaded the program it would turn on then shut down and I get this message "A Problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." I have no control over the page, it keeps opening and closing. The only to stop it s to go to Task Manager and end the program several times.
Any Suggestions on a fix for this problem. It does not matter which page it tries to open. I can only change pages by going the Change Home Page inthe control Panel when IE 11 is not running.
Thanks

Answer:A Problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab

Open Internet Explorer in Safe Mode without Addons. Browse some sites. If you find that you do not now face any problems, it means that one of your IE add-ons is creating a problem.
Use the IE Addon manager to disable the add-ons one after the other and try to find the offender. To manage browser add-ons in Internet Explorer, open IE and press Alt+X to open Tools. Here you will see Manage add-ons. Click on it Once you have identified it disable ot remove the addon. Details - Manage Browser add ons..
Run AdwCleaner to see if you have any malicious add-ons installed.
If nothing workw, you may need to Reset Internet Explorer settings to default.

Windows 10 has a cache issue when saving/reopening files which I can repeat and would appreciate some advice/ideas

Note: I have come here after weeks of problems and series of tests. I have ruled out antivirus, drivers, hardware and a host of other issues raised my Microsoft and can repeat this problem with out fail.

I have had two identical computers (A and B) built for me by a reputable store. Both run Windows 10 with a genuine COA on each system. I use one system at home and one at work. I have a portable drive that contains my data that is shared/used by both systems. I have bought seven drives to date out of shear frustration thinking it was hardware - 2Tb, 3Tb, and 4Tb from Seagate, Toshiba and WD - they all do this:

Note: file type *.xyz is just an example and not a real file type and only to assist this discussion (I have tried many file types as well)

Computer A > Save a file at 4PM onto a portable drive (for example abc.xyz) - time stamp 4PMComputer B > at 6PM commence working on the file and save at 10PM (abc.xyz) - time stamp 10PMComputer A > at 8AM (next day) go to the portable drive to discover the file (abc.xyz) is time stamped back at 4PM?
Now if I try to the run the file Windows starts giving errors about the file being corrupt or inaccessible.

Computer B > if you take the portable drive back to Computer A the file is time stamped 10PM and opens and saves as per normal i.e. Computer A will no longer run the file, yet Computer B does from... Read more

I did a Windows 7 Repair Install on my HP (G62) laptop, 64 BIT, and installed an HP Deskjet F4180 printer, it went on virtual USB001. Recently, when printing from various PDF files, I cannot print multiple pages of a document. It prints a single random page of the document, then gives printer error, and moves the document into queue, where I have to cancel the job. It seems to work OK in other application documents however. And it even seemed to work for an older small PDF file.

Im running the laptop on wireless, with router configured to automatic DHCP, shows 2 devices, the laptop and the wired Desktop, and seems to be running fine. The network is set to Public.

I uninstalled all HP programs, drivers, and reinstalled the latest full printer driver & software for 64 BIT from HP website.

I stopped & restarted the print spooler service.

I tried different USB ports, cables, connection steps.

I tried HP scan utilities for fixing, and tried Windows Troubleshoot (which temporarily fixes issue for a single print job)

Thru printers & devices all printer & USB drivers show up, are updated, & working.

In Printer Properties, I tried printing directly to printer setting, but then NOTHING prints at all.

As far as I remember the printer worked properly on my desktop, Windows 7, 32 BIT version.

I also reinstalled ADOBE PDF, in case its the applications fault

SFC /scannow doesnt find a problem

Ive done CCleaner, DiskCleanup, CheckDisk, also no Virus, Malware d... Read more

Excel 2010 SUM Formula updates, save file and reopen - values revert to old yet SUM totals are new

Hi guys
We have a very strange problem, our user opened his .xls document (97-2003 format) yesterday and updated several values, copied formula and updated (eg monthly/weekly totals). The worksheet includes many small SUM's spanning a couple of cells with sub-totals. He then saved his work and shut down as usual.
When opening the .xls document this morning, to continue his work, he noticed some of the values had changed (we assume to the previous ones) yet the totals where still the updated 'saved' values. Changing any values causes Excel to recalculate the totals (which then become correct, yet old totals)
Yesterday I updated the computer from a Windows XP (SP3), Office XP (SP3) to a Windows 7 (32bit, SP1), Office 2010 (SP1).
We've advised him to change document types to the new .xlsx format and to doublecheck everything.

Any ideas to the actual cause? Thanks

After using the InPrivate browsing window in the internet and I want to delete the history for good, I click on 'delete temporary files, history, cookies,' etc. After clicking this another box appears with seven boxes available for me to tick the appropriate ones I am wanting to delete. If I tick the box marked 'InPrivate Filtering data' ( which says that it will delete all data stored from using this window) does this mean the history of the websites I have been viewing will be completely gone forever and there is no way to access it?Please help fast!

Answer:Browsing History stored by InPrivate browsing

.... does this mean the history of the websites I have been viewing will be completely gone forever and there is no way to access it? Contrary to what most of us thought, experienced users can trace the sites you visited by looking at the router/modem activity log and by manipulating IPCONFIG utility on the computer you used. I also believe forensic audit has the capability to discover additional evidence that we don't know about (trade secret). Hi,
I was recently being helped by a member named "TheBruce1" regarding some infections on my pc. The thread was closed as all seemed well however, I am having new problems with my PC including popups that state " There was an error openong this document, the path file does not exist", and " Failed to get printer driver name" when I try to print. Also, my pc won't download pics from my camera anymore even though I removed and re-installed the software. The camera works on my desktop so I know the camera is not the problem. My question is, "do I start a new thread, as here, or is there a way to reopen the old one. Thanks, Bertronix

Answer:Remove "Securepccleaner" Thread Reopen

hello ,

well this is a new issueso this thread will do

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to sliptream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

I saved a drawing. I'd like to edit the same drawing...in sketchpad.
How do I reopen/edit in sketchpad? It'll only open in Paint. Please help.

Answer:How do I reopen/edit sketchpad drawing in sketchpad?

Sketchpad saves drawings as PNG files. To edit again, open the file in the normal Photos app and find the "Draw" button toward the top right of the screen. This will allow you to draw on the picture again.
Since files are saved as normal PNG pictures, you can't erase your lines as if they were in Sketchpad again. Instead, you'll be drawing on top of the existing picture.
AFAIK Sketchpad does not have a native file format for saving.

Question: Session Gap?

I've tried using Nero and other programs to burn a mixed audio/data CD. Apparently it's done with two sessions. Nero does this automatically. Other programs make you perform both sessions. The disks are okay. First session is read only as audio by older CD-ROMs. The data is read in Windows. But the thing is, when checked for a surface scan using CD Speed, the utility program, there's always a gap of unformatted or red or 'bad' sectors following the last audio track and prior to the data.

I've asked various people who ought to be knowledgeable - are all these bad sectors supposed to be there in this sort of 'mode 2 xa', multi-session 'enhanced CD'? Is it, basically, just a separation between the audio session and the data session? for maybe 100 or so frames/sectors? No one seems to know, at least that I've asked. Maybe it's not 'red book', or 'yellow' book, or whatever, or maybe it is?

Speaking of 'books', I do notice that the CD-writer slows down after writing the audio. I've been told that the CD-writer isn't supposed to change speed that much, or else it doesn't conform to these book standards. But it does momentarily slow down, then speed up again, with various CD-burning programs, not just one.

Answer:Session Gap?

I guess I'll answer my own question, since perhaps no one here knows.

It's not a slow-down or some underrun problem. In this Mode 2, multi-session 'enhanced CD' (ECD), there are about 2 and a half minutes of garbage, basically, written by all software - which they don't bother telling you about. All those 'bad sectors', are literally supposed to be there at the end of the last track, and at the beginning of the final track with all the data.

So a CD Speed reports it as this block of 'red'. And it fails the disc, of course. But those 'bad sectors' - are supposedly to be there in this ECD sort of multi-session burn.
