Preferred Solution: the application or DLL C:\Program Files\Java\

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: the application or DLL C:\Program Files\Java\

Go to Control Panel, double click on Java. Click on Update & click on > Update now.If you still having problems, uninstall Firefox completely ( including the Profile ) & reinstall again.http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstall...

Answer:Missing Java from Program Files

Hello help meh and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you check in control panel > programs and features to see if Java is listed? You can double-check this by looking in start menu > all programs. And you can use the start menu search box to look for Java. If you still can't find Java it probably wasn't installed on your computer no matter how many times you tried.

If it hasn't been installed it could be because your firewall blocked the installation. Java recommends temporarily disable the firewall.

Quote:
It is recommended, before you proceed with online installation you may want to disable your Internet firewall. In some cases the default firewall settings are set to reject all automatic or online installations such as the Java online installation.

Source

The source also provides instructions for manually downloading and installing Java, including necessary links.

If Java WAS installed you might want to uninstall it so your machine has a clean platform to work with. Even if you can't find Java it wouldn't hurt to use JavaRa to look for and remove any left over bits and pieces that could prevent a clean install.

Hi,WinXP Home, sp2.I've been looking in my C:\Program Files and i've come across 2 'application' icons that i've not noticed before. One is called 'Delete.exe' (size 40kb) and the other is called 'SetAttrib.exe' (size 44kb), both created 22/2/2006. One says modified 30th Nov 2004, the laptop wasn't even built then. The other says modified 21st Jan 2005. There's no information for either in the 'summary' tab. I've done a full scan with Norton, Ad-Aware SE, A-Squared and Ewido and everythings coming up clean. Has anyone any idea what these application icons could be please.Cheers Chris.

Answer:Unknown Application Icons in C:\Program Files

Try right clicking on the files and looking at their properties to see who which company) they belong to.

I noticed a new icon on my desktop and start menu toolbar of a JAVA cup. And when I run HJT, I see a new item (see below) that wasn't there before.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\jusched.exe

Is this a bad thing? Should I delete it?

[FONT=&quot]HI there,

PRECEDING PROBLEMS, MAYBE USEFUL, MAYBE NOT:

For the last month I've had a bewildering laundry list of problems with my computer. Firefox 37.0.1 started using superhigh CPU to open and load pages. Then Thunderbird and Avast! began to do the same when connecting to the internet for download[FONT=&quot]s/updates[/FONT]. Then my printer ditto. When printing, I can't do anything else. (It's Brother MFC 4500+, an ancient workhorse that's never given me a day's trouble.)

Then my mouse went on the fritz; swapped out to another mouse and got the same problem---the pointer freezes and restarts intermittently, then freezes altogether. I can get it working again by unplugging the USB and plugging it in again, but the fix is temporary, maybe hours, maybe seconds. Every now and then I get a Windows message in the taskbar tray tha[FONT=&quot]t "something has happened" and [/FONT]the system can't recognize my USB device.

The problems didn't happen all at once, but rather in the sequence that I've noted. I've run different antivirus and malware and rootkit scans repeatedly, but all come up clean. FWIW, I run good computer utilities every week or so, so the system is squeaky clean that way. I've been limping along.

Hi

I am currently having an issue with my Java application bundled as an executable for deployment purposes. The application (or JVM) crashes after some activity (15-20 minutes). I have tried using tools such as VisualVM and YourKit Java Profiler to check for memory leaks and heap allocation but nothing seems to be out of place. For every crash, a log is written to Windows Event Logs. See summary below:

Answer:The Application Or Dll C:\program Files\symantec\liveupdate\msvcr71.dll Is Not A Valid Windows Image.

That error indicates that you have some Symantec protection product (NAV, NIS, Norton 360, ad infinitum) installed on your system.If this is true, I suggest that you uninstall it (because the Live Update portion seems to be corrupted) via Add/remove Programs...then reinstall it and update it.I used to use NIS/NAV and I know that Live Update should have it's own item in Add/Remove Programs. You might be able to get away with just uninstalling that...but I don't think it installs as a separate item.Louis

Hi,

I am trying to compile a java file by another java file. In this case I tried to open the cmd by java codes, but it didn't work. I know this is possible through the processbuilder class, but I am very much new to this class. The following is an example of what I tried to do.

but = new JButton("Create");
but.addActionListener(this);

JPanel buttonPanel = new JPanel();
buttonPanel.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
buttonPanel.add(but);

getContentPane().add(buttonPanel);

}

public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)
{
try
{
ProcessBuilder p = new ProcessBuilder("cmd.exe");
p.start();
}
catch(Exception e)
{
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,e);
}
}

public static void main(String[]args)
{
CompileCheck c = new CompileCheck();
c.setVisible(true);
c.setSize(200,200);

Question: Java Application

Here is my code :

import javax.swing.JOptionPane;

public static void main(String[] args) {

String numberOne, numberTwo, numberThree, numberFour, numberFive;

int one, two, three, four, five, small, large;

numberThree = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 3rd digit");
numberFour = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 4th digit");
numberFive = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 5th digit");

one = Integer.parseInt(numberOne);
two = Integer.parseInt(numberTwo);

four = Integer.parseInt(numberFour);
five = Integer.parseInt(numberFive);
if (one < two)
small = one;
if (two < three)
large = three;
if (three < four)
large = four;
if (four < five)
large = five;

JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The smallest integer is : " + small + "\n" + "The largest integer is : "
+ large);

System.exit(0);

}
}

basically, what i need to do is have a user input 5 integers and just be able to print the smallest and largest integer inputted in GUI format.

this is my coding so far. cannot get it to output the smallest and largest integer when i put in integers randomly.

any ideas?

thanks,
charlie

Answer:Java Application

You have a little bit of error in your logic.

You should say something like:

Code:

if(one < two && one < three && one < four && one < five)
small = one;

However that would suck...

how about:

Code:

import javax.swing.JOptionPane;

public class Largest {

public static void main(String[] args) {

String numberOne, numberTwo, numberThree, numberFour, numberFive;

Integer one, two, three, four, five, small, large;

numberOne = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 1st digit");
numberTwo = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 2nd digit");
numberThree = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 3rd digit");
numberFour = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 4th digit");
numberFive = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter 5th digit");

// Keep these as integers so you can use comparable
one = new Integer(numberOne);
two = new Integer(numberTwo);
three = new Integer(numberThree);
four = new Integer(numberFour);
five = new Integer(numberFive);

// array them
Integer[] values = new Integer[] { one, two, three, four, five};

small = smallest(values);
large = largest(values);

JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The smallest integer is : " + small + "\n" + "The largest integer is : " + large);

System.exit(0);

}

I use JCreator to create my Java applications. I can run them within JCreator but I want to know how to run them on a computer that doesn't have JCreator. Any help? I tried searching for this but I couldn't find anything.

Answer:Running a Java Application

you have to make sure the system without JCreator is running the java virtual machine and then you use the java virtual machine on their system to run the classes for the program you've developed.

There are some sites that need java application to be installed. So I installed Java jre6 update 3. So now when I open the site, there is another window opened, which says, "java application window". Hi,
I am developing a Java based application and need to make sure that if it crashes, it comes back on. I tried setting it up as a service, but as it requires interaction with the user, the "Interactive Services Detection" is tripped when I try to bring it up.

My thoughts right now are to have it update a text file periodically and have a service monitor that text file. If the file has not been updated, then the service runs a script which reopens the application... does anyone know if there is an easier way of doing this? (or if this will even work?)

Thanks!

Answer:How do I keep a Java Application running at all times?

Create one user app and one service app. The service app checks on the status of the user app and restarts it - if need be.

My computer was complete okay a week ago and i have didn't touch anything to change either firewall setting or antivirus. At least for a couple of days now i have this weird experience unable to access any application or websites that run using JAVA.

Any java website especially this: https://app.currensee.com/forexpert/login
And OANDA trading platform (using JAVA). Also cannot.

My internet connection is superb: Playing Youtube or visit any other site is fine...but all JAVA run website either cannot login at all or dead slow.

I am trying to log in but can't at all and the OANDA trading platform keeps on log in and out frequently.

Anyone have clue what could be the problem and how to solve it?

Hi all,

I am in the process of developing a Java application and want to include some live streaming audio in it. It will need to function like an RSS feed. To simplify it, we will have one person at a computer speaking into a microphone (let's say broadcasting the news), and that will transmit out to anyone using the application.

Does anyone have any advice on existing software (preferably open source) that can do something like this?

I'm very much at the beginning stages of this implementation.. I guess I just have the idea and I am looking for some guidance where to start.

Also, no podcasts.

Thanks for any insight,
Jon

Hi all,

Please...Please..don't abandon me.
I am a good Java programmer. And I have got a project.But this one is not similar to any projects I've worked before . It means a lot to me as I am trying to step into this particular field.

The project is digitizing the maps of powerline distributions. they told me they want something in the line of grass (geographic information system). I am supposed to work in Linux OS.

Kindly give me some glimpses into Grass. Is it a freely downloadable s/w. i.e I want to know how it works.
And also where do I start in Java for Map digitization.
Any suggestions,guidance, resources will be accepted with heartfelt thanks.

Thanks

Actually, did you even try to Google this? There's loads of info on the web.

My computers are both running Win 7 64-bit. I am thoroughly confused when it comes to placing programs that I download into their proper folders: That is, program files (x86) vs program files. I have read stuff on this, but still confused. for the most part, even when a dl'd program suggests being installed into PF, I, for whatever reason, place it into PF (x86). Although I have read that placing the program into the wrong folder may cause the program not to work properly, so far I have not had this problem...nor any other problems that I am aware of. Could someone please set me straight on this issue?

Answer:Program Files or Program Files (x86)-Where to place downloaded program

I let the installer put it where it is supposed to.

If I trust the software I trust they know best where it should be installed/placed.

If I can't trust the software maker why am I downloading/installing their program?

Hi,

I have my java application running on windows Xp previosly and the application has a feature to show the current time on its screen. Recently i have upgraded my OS to vista and set the time/date setting in vista to my local current time.

After i launch my application i see the date and time displayed on the screen is not my current date and time. Instead it is showing the GMT time as the current time on my application screen. The JDK using is 1.4.2_06.

Suggest me what configuration changes to be done for it to work properly on vista.

Thanks,
Vivek

Answer:Date is not displayed properly in Java application

Sounds like something has changed underneath you. Most likely the JRE isn't calling the relevant APIs the right way under Vista, assuming you used the same JDK, JRE, and app versions under XP.

I'm assuming the app is your code. Can you paste the relevant method portions here? I'm quite curious.

So I went to the website www.runemerch.net (BE CAREFUL GOING TO THE SITE, MAKE SURE YOU CLICK NO ON JAVA APPLICATION) and a Java application started to run. I noticed it was a keylogger for a game since after my computer randomly shut down (applications closed then shut off normally not at once). I went on the game I played and it was obvious I was hacked. So I did a virus scan with NOD32 and found some Java threats and deleted them. But today my computer randomly shut down again. I doubt that it's not a virus. It can't normally shut down if it's a heating issue (I have fairly low temperatures inside my case).

I'm getting this message box (there's more to it, of course) since downloading adobe flash player through google chrome (I normally use Firefox, but switched to try a game - pipsoh - that wasn't working on F/f). Only seem to get it on my home page - Yahoo7 - when I open browser, and other Yahoo7 pages. That's on Firefox.
How do I get rid of this?

I tried to install as administrator but this option was not available when I right click the installation file.

What to try next? Thanks

I am running a new laptop with Windows 7. It's about two weeks old, and I've slowly been installing my old software on it so I can use it regularly. Everything -- including Java plug-ins -- has been working fine for the whole two weeks.

Then yesterday I tried to play a silly java-based game online. Instead of loading the applet, it displayed the following message: "Error. Click here for details".

I went to the Java website and used their test applet, only to get the same message. On clicking the message, a dialog box appears reading: "The Application Failed To Run. There was an error while executing the application." When I click "Details", it opens the Java console, which gives me the following output:

Answer:[SOLVED] Java Error: Application Failed To Run

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post this here, but I've run into the exact same problem with Java. I was away for about 3 weeks. My computer was off the entire time I was gone. The first time I turned it on after arriving home Java refused to work and displayed the exact same error message as OP. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it and nothing has worked.

Any help would be a lifesaver.

Answer:Solved: Java script application error

See if the problem occurs when you run Firefox in safe mode:

It could be a problem with one of the Firefox Add-ons.

Hi -

I'm at my wits end with this. My computer updated to the current version of Java (1.7.0_25). However, I have a program that I use for work that won't run on it. It must run on 1.5.0_15. (And I must use the program — and I've already walked through tech, I'm an independent contractor so I'm basically on my own with this one...)

Here's the error I get when I try to run it (my only option is a URL):
Here's what I've tried:
System Restore — I get an error that there is a file that can't be accessed so the restore didn't work. Tried it 3x, once via safe mode. Won't work.
Installed 1.5.0_15 — app won't pick up that it's installed.
Removed every instance of Java — nothing happens.
Installed only 1.5.0_15 — app still insists it's not installed.
Opened Java Controls — disabled 1.7 in the options. Still get error.
Checked off black list in advanced Java options — still get the error.

I'm hoping someone has another idea. Thanks so much!

Go to Programs & Features, or Add & Remove Programs" and uninstall ALL Java, Sun Java, IBM Java, anything Java and reboot. Then run JavaRA and use it to cleanup Java: http://sourceforge.net/projects/javara/

If you use this program through a browser then you may want to check and remove any Java Add-ons or Extensions in the browser.

Then download and install Java 5.0 Update 15 from here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/j...oads-javase5-419410.html#jdk-1.5.0_15-oth-JPR
Use the "Windows Offline Installation" version of the installer.

Whilst working on problem with my Win10 OS, I found a bit of treacle during my examination. The Intel iCLS Client shows system environment variables for both the C:\Program Files directory and also C:\Program Files (x86). I don't see how that could be correct.

Sure enough, there are files in both locations.
That and several other Intel component appear in dual locations.

If appropriate to clean up, what steps would I use? Seems to me that uninstalling has a lot of potential to break something severely, and I suspect these won't uninstall cleanly.

I'll be chasing around looking for install files while waiting for your thoughts on the thread. Cheers.

Well thats the error I get. I was trying to use my HP all in one to scan (Which I don't do but once in a blue moon) and I can't get it to work. It was working but I downloaded Java from Sun Micro , and now I get this message. I tried to uninstall the Java to see if that would work but it didn't. Any thoughts?? I mean I could totally wipe my system and start over which I do occasionally just for giggles and grins but I would like to see if I can fix this.

BTW I'm using XP SP2 with most every update except IE 7

All help is greatly appreciated.

I will let you know I did google the error message and got something about the whole Microsoft issue with Java Lawsuit blah blah blah. Also I found some threads of what other people have done to try and fix this issue, but I don't have any chickens handy and I can't wait until the moon is in the seventh hour of the seventh day of the seventh... you get what I'm saying.

Once again all help is greatly appreciated.

I would check the environment variables to ensure that the PATH variable does not contain a pointer to an earlier version of the JRE. Make sure the PATH only has the folder for the currently installed version listed.

Hello i just have update Java with:
Java 64 Bit version Installed

I use Google Chrome:
32 Bit version = chrome://help/

I cannot Use Java(TM) Plugin:
It doesn't show in Chrome browser settings to enable.

Question:

Do I needed to have to install 2 versions of Java...
Note:
I have Installed IE as well but, I don't know if its 32x or 64x

I'm lost here, could you please point me to the right Installed of java version needed on
Windows 7 Home Professional 64 Bit, please!

Thank you

Answer:Google Chrome Right Application of Java (Browser) needed?

Yes, for plugins to work they must match the "bitness" of the host program (not only browsers, but for all software generally speaking).

The 64 bit Java can the only be hosted in 64 bits browsers, or used in standalone Java programs. For 32 bits to work, you must install 32 bits Java too. They both can coexist with no problems at all.

Hi have have a new PC running Win7 Home Premium 64bit. I have 2 drives:

1 x 120GB SSD (running the OS) (C Drive)
1 x 1TB HDD (D Drive)

The SSD is running the OS and a couple of main programs which i use quite often (ie. Office 2010, Antivirus, etc).

The HDD i want to use to install and run Games, iTunes, etc...

My question is, if by default installing programmes want to install to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86). How to i make them install to D:\ and what file structure should i use to make sure the 64bit and 32bit are in the right file and run as they should at the correct bit version??

Is it just a case of creating Program Files & Program Files (x86) folders on D and navigating to these folders on install?

Thanks

Answer:Program Files (x86) & Program Files Installed On Another Drive

you could try mounting the the hdd partition to your program files folder in your SSD.

I have never done this before and cannot say it will work properly. but its an idea.

Mount Drives or Partitions as a Folder

P.S. I would definitely backup your program files before trying that.

Hi,
I have a program installed under "C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\SWName".
When the program runs it's supposed to copy some files, say
FROM
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\SWName\Drivers\*.abc
TO
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\SWName\Drivers\*.xyz

The program works on every machine it's been installed on, except for one (customer's) Win 7 64-bit machine. On that machine, nothing happens.

It's noteworthy that on that same machine an "insufficient access privileges" (or some such) message pops-up when an administrator trys to copy a folder to "C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\NewName".

Any guesses as to why this particular Win7 machine is being so picky? What should I have the installer do so that the application will be able to copy/rename its own files?

Thanks/Cheers.

Answer:Allow installed program to rename files under Program Files (x86)

Try right clicking on the program installer and select Run as Administrator. See if that allows it to complete.

Hi, I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and it came with 2 set of program files: program files, and program files x86. Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs, I was wondering if I could delete the normal program files and keep the x86 ones, or would that cause problems?

Answer:Deleting program files and keeping program files x86?

would that cause problems?

More than you know. You delete that and you delete any and all 64 bit programs, and probably also have to re-install Vista. That and if the Program Files folder on mine is any indication (just under 1 GB), then you're not going to save a whole lot of space anyway.

Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs

Better idea that trying to bugger Windows up, get a bigger hard drive.

Forum,

I do not work much with windows, but I do a lot of work in different distros of bsd and linux.

What I want to do is 'ln -sf c:\program files g:\program files' that is how I would symbolic link the folder in linux, but I can not figure out how to do this in windows.

I need this done so after the folder is moved to a new drive/partition all the Start Menu links still work, and also the short cuts.

Thanks,

not sure if this will work, but how about just creating a shortcut of the C:\folder on the G:\ , or vice versa..

I just got a new laptop with Win7. I've used Vista a little bit at work, but otherwise I am a WinXP user and know little about the newer Windows. To get to the chase, my question is, is it possible to create my own alternative pair of 64bit/x86 folders and use them as the destinations for all the new software I will be installing? In other words, they will simply be two new folders with different names (and they will start empty). I'm sure it's possible but would there any downside to doing this?

What would be really cool is if I could get Win7 to treat these potential new folders the same as it does with the default ones, where 64bit programs default to one of them, while 32 bit programs default to the other. Is this possible?

If you're wondering why I am interested in doing this, it would be purely for organizational purposes.

Answer:Is it okay to circumvent using the Program Files/Program Files(x86) folders?

Don't do this. The default Program Files directories are heavily ACLed to prevent user-mode programs from tampering with program files. If you change to another set of directories, you won't have the same restrictions and will be exposing yourself to security vulnerabilities.

Hi
When I installed Windows 7 64bit a year or so ago, I thought that the Program Files (x86) folder was for the 64bit applications and I have installed nearly all of them in there.
Most of my application are music production software / instruments. Some of them on install prompted me to install both the 32bit and 64bit variants and so because of my mistake, I installed the 32bit in the Program Files folder and the 64bit in the (x86) folder.
My question is, does it matter? For organisation (and because I am partial to a bit of OCD) I have contemplated uninstalling everything and reinstalling the applications where they should be. However, this would take a long time and I'm sure I would make a mistake or two and I've probably lost some of the installation files.
Is there any difference in the folders in the way that the operating system uses them which will affect performance? Or is it true that as long as the application knows the correct path to related files, it wont make a jot of difference. Also, if it's the latter, does it actually make any difference at all even if the two folders have a mix of 32 / 64bit applications as long as the system was told what they were at installation?
I'm not comfortable with the way I've installed my apps but I'm also conscious that I could make things far worse by trying to correct it..
On a slightly related note, why do applictaions install both the 32bit and 64bit variants? I thought it would just install the 64bit..
Thanks
Tim

Answer:32bit / 64 bit Program Files / Program Files (x86) and does it matter?

32bit usually stored in x86 folder
shouldn't really make any difference where they are installed as the registry will hold the information where to point to the correct file required.

Question: No Java program

I've noticed I don't have a java program. I have been trying to print coupons and it says to enable java. I follow directions to do this and can't find java. When I try to download a new java i get this error code. lib/charsets.jar: Old file not found. However a file of the same name was found. NO update done since file contents do not match.. I need help fixing this. It's not a huge problem but it is frustrating since I have to resort to using my husbands laptop and I try hard not to touch my husbands laptop, lol. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I thought maybe I would restore my computer to the "new" condition by using the cds i had to burn but that seems like such a drastic measure for this problem.

I need to create two classes, one called car (this is the actual car object) and one called carlist (this is an array of cars which are for sale). I of course also need to create an additional driver class for the program (this will contain the main method which will create objects and call their methods, and I need to use the keyboard class to get input from the user).

The program should be capable of providing the following user experience:

ACME Used Car Dealers

1. Purchase car
2. Display cars for sale
3. Sell car

Enter option: 1

PURCHASE CAR
MAKE: Ford
Model: Escort
Year: 2001
Miles: 3400
Color: White
Purchase price: 1500
Sale price: 2495

1. Purchase car
2. Display cars for sale
3. Sell car

Enter option: 2

CARS FOR SALE

No Make Model Year Miles Color Price
1 Ford Escort 2001 3400 White 2495
2 Saab 93 2000 56000 Black 4999

1. Purchase car
2. Display cars for sale
3. Sell car

Enter option: 3

SELL A CAR
Which car: 1
What price: 2395
Sold a White Ford Escort 2001
You just made us $895 profit
BTW, each car object should store (at a minimum) the following information:

-make
-model
-year
-miles
-color
-purchase price
-for sale price
-sold flag

The carlist object will be an array of cars and a pointer to the next free location in the array for the next car to go in

Hello all! I am writing a program in java that goes through all the RGB colors. It works and runs fine, it's just that I want it to pause for 10 or so milliseconds between each color change. I do not know how to do this. The changing of the colors happens in the actionPerformed method, in the if statements. Thanks!
Code:
import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.event.*;

public class Colorbender extends JFrame implements ActionListener
{
private JPanel mainpanel;

public Colorbender()
{
setTitle("Color Bender");
setSize(500, 500);
setResizable(true);
setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
Container bucket = getContentPane();
mainpanel = new JPanel();
mainpanel.setBackground(Color.WHITE);
mainpanel.setLayout(new FlowLayout());

JButton run = new JButton("Give me a rainbow");
run.addActionListener(this);
mainpanel.add(run);

bucket.add(mainpanel);
setVisible(true);
}

public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
{
String test = e.getActionCommand();
if (test.equals("Give me a rainbow"))
{
for (int r = 0; r <= 255; r++)
{
for (int g = 0; g <= 255; g++)
{
for (int b = 0; b <= 255; b++)
{
mainpanel.setBackground(new Color(r, g, b));
}
}
}
}
}

public static void main(String[] args)
{
Colorbender test = new Colorbender();
}
}

Answer:Help with a Java program

You can either add a delay in between colours, or you can update everytime you change the colour which will show the change.

Code:
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
String test = e.getActionCommand();
if (test.equals("Give me a rainbow")) {
for (int r = 0; r <= 255; r++) {
for (int g = 0; g <= 255; g++) {
for (int b = 0; b <= 255; b++) {
mainpanel.setBackground(new Color(r, g, b));
mainpanel.update(getGraphics()); //force an update to show the new colour
}
}
}

You can also add a delay after each change but that'll make your program take a long time to execute (255*255*255* 1ms = 4 1/2 hours!)

Code:

public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
String test = e.getActionCommand();
if (test.equals("Give me a rainbow")) {
for (int r = 0; r <= 255; r++) {
for (int g = 0; g <= 255; g++) {
for (int b = 0; b <= 255; b++) {
mainpanel.setBackground(new Color(r, g, b));
mainpanel.update(getGraphics());
try {
Thread.sleep(1);
} catch (InterruptedException err) {
err.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
}
}

I'm trying to make a roll dice game where the user can pick how many dice and how many rolls they want to do. I'm trying to print out a histogram type thing that will show the number of dice and rolls the user picked. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Answer:Java Program

hi
as a basic understanding you have to know that there are abstract methods for every interface, ActionListener is an interface and JPanel and JFrame... etc are Classes we use for creating Frames and panels. I'm assuming that you have an idea about these.

in your objectives you have to create a nested menu so u have to use submenu.
as below
vmenu=new JMenu("View");

submenu1_vmenu=new JMenu("Look and Feel");
submenu11=new JMenuItem("Metal");
submenu12=new JMenuItem("Monitor");
submenu13=new JMenuItem("Windows");
submenu1_vmenu.add(submenu11);
submenu1_vmenu.add(submenu12);
submenu1_vmenu.add(submenu13);
Try this in your code and you'll get nested menu

hope this helps..

I don't know the difference between an Application and a Program. Thought the Geektionary would help, but didn't find anything there.

I have 2 Dell Windows XP computers.

If I want to copy something such as Microsoft Money from one pc and install it on the other, what exactly do I need to copy? The application or the program?

And where do I find what I need to copy? :confused

Any help in this area is so appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Application vs. Program

Well basically an Application is an executable file such as Notepad.exe whereas a program can contain more than one application along with numerous other files such as DLL files.

Since the days when Windows had a registry it is far more difficult just to copy a program as it often has numerous entries in the registry which will point to locations of files within the program - this is why prgrams these days are generally installed. Only if the program contains a small number of files or is a self contained executable (such as Notepad which is both a program and an application rolleyes) can a program be copied.

Hope that's all clear. :confusedrolleyes

Hi all and thanks for your input.

I have a windows 7 laptop and a web based java JNLP program that will not run on this machine.

On IE9, firefox and opera it asks what to do with the file open or save, if you open it asks again. If you save and then run as administrator, it will bring up the Java web installation program. "Not the intended program to run"

I have removed and reinstalled java several times, including removing when computer was running in safe mode.

I have check file association, and yes it is pointing to javaws.exe "java web start program" and shows the correct icon.

I have also opened java control panel and confirmed all settings there are correct.

My thinking now is to take all the jnlp registry keys out of my desktop that is working correctly, and install them onto the laptop. As everything I see is javaws is not being seen by the OS as installed.

Thoughts or cures?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Help with Java JNLP program

Maybe if you haven't already got it,then maybe you need the Java web installation program to open it.

My chain of thought,though, is if something is trying to open up, and you ain't requested it, then stay away from it, because you might cause yourself more problems, then, you'll be back asking for more help !!

I need a huge favor here, i am a teacher working on a program for my Programming class, the other classes made a program and i was wondering if anyone could help me out with it.
I need to Write a Java console program that will randomly generate the numbers for a Super 7 lottery ticket.

With each ticket the customer receives three sets of seven numbers. Each set of seven numbers is called a “board” in the lottery business. So, if the user buys just one ticket, they get 3 boards. If they buy two tickets, they get 6 boards. If they buy three tickets, they get 9 boards, and so on. Each number on a board is a unique integer (no duplicates permitted) in the range of 1 to 47 (inclusive).
The program should do the following:
• Ask the user how many tickets they want to purchase. Remember, for one ticket you have to generate three rows of seven numbers.
• Generate all the tickets, ensuring no duplicate numbers within each board, and sort them in ascending order (smallest to largest).
• Output the numbers as displayed in the screen shots below:

Can run program in Java without main function
Ya program can be run without main in java
It is possible through static block using static block we can run programe without main
Example Program

Class Abc
{
static
{
System.out.print ("Program Without main");
System.exit ();
}
}

Output will be: program without main
How it possible

In Java When Class File is loaded for run in that time static block loaded first

In this case when program is run than static block is run first and execute the

System.out.print ("Program without main");
And then
System.exit ();
When System.exit () will execute the control will exit from the program

Answer:Program Without main in Java

System.exit() is not correct as the exit method needs an integer. It gives a compilation error.
Otherwise, it works !

Question: Java Program Slow

For work I have to run a Java program (Egain Mail), This is making my PC really slow, and crashes a lot.
I am using the latest version and settings suggested by the program providers, but it is still slow.
Is there anything that people may suggest that I can look at to find this slowness.
The PC is clean, I have run through the XP cleaning

Answer:Java Program Slow

Hi

All I can think of as I have not used this application is a few of the below.

1. Is your Windows XP fully upto date with all updates?
2. Close as many background running applications as possible (leave antivirus and firewall on if connected to the internet) as their could be a conflict with one of them.
3. If you are getting crashes then review the Event Viewer logs in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event viewer and look in the Application and System logs for any errors around the time of a crash and post the information text.
4. If you have old versions of Java in Add/Remove then run this application or actually run it anyway as it will remove old references to Java that "may" cause instability in your PC ,app is JavaRa

Then even if all that doesnt work, uninstall the latest Java and make sure no Java is in Add/Remove, then run CCleaner and its Cleaner and Registry Cleaner to tidy up temp folders and registry (do note that if you have auto logging into some sites via cookies that this application deletes cookies BUT you can protect them in CCleaners ... Options > Cookies list just highlight and move the sites you wish to keep into the right hand window)

Then reinstall latest Java.

Answer:Suggestions for a new java program ??

Erm..

With what were you "infected"? And it is not the JVMs fault you when you go to webpages that contain bad applets - there is no way a Java engine can protect itself if you tell it to run malicious software. Maybe you should pay more attention to what webpages you visit?

Honestly? I'm sick of dealing with it. I uninstalled Blackberry Desktop Manager (I don't even use it anymore because updating my phone is a pain), but I'm wondering how to tell if anything else needs java. Is there a program that will scan my computer and tell me what programs need Java? thanks.

Answer:Is there a program that can tell me if any of my apps need java?

I think the easiest way to tell if something needs Java is to simply try running the program or app. If it needs Java you'll get a prompt. For example, I use Opera as my browser. If I try to access the official US Time website at time<dot>gov I get this prompt. I uninstalled Java bout a year ago and I haven't missed it or needed it.

I'm not aware of any other software that can scan your computer to see if installed programs or apps need Java.

Answer:Errors in Java program

33 is what it says.
The for loop uses semicolons to split the three components. You've got a comma in the first place instead.

Lines 36 and 40 are because you haven't got any concatenation (sticking two strings together). println only works with one string, in this case "student", so if you want student1: to print out you'll need to stick those extra bits on.
In short, you need a + sign.
I'm not sure whether Java is smart enough to automatically convert the number in the loop variable to a string. You can try it, but a safer option would be to use the toString method just to be sure.

Hi,

I downloaded an open source program that runs on the Java platform. It is supposed to load when I double click it, however, it is a jar file that is apparently associated with PowerArchiver. That program opens and lists the files to be unzipped instead of running the program.

I tried associating the file type with java, but this doesn't do anything. (Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types>JAR and chose java: in the drop down list). I am running Windows XP Home, and the JRE is Sun 1.5.0.

I can get the program to run using the command prompt, but I would like to be able to just click it and run it or somehow make a desktop icon that would run it.

I emailed the author of the program and he said that Java should open it when I double click on it, that maybe something on my system has changed that protocol. Any ideas?

Thanks,

ThaBrudda

The problem you have is a semicolon after the for statement, which is like a full stop or period in English. Therefore the for loop is effectively saying "count from annualSales to potSales, full stop" instead of "count from annual sales to potSales and for each one print out the message.

You want to replace

Code:

for (counter = annualSales; counter <= potSales; counter++);
// the loop and then print the commission with the projected sales.
System.out.println(counter + "\t\t" + counter );

with

Code:

for (counter = annualSales; counter <= potSales; counter++) {
// the loop and then print the commission with the projected sales.
System.out.println(counter + "\t\t" + counter );
}

Hi,
Can someone review my HJT log? I did a scan to see if I could find anything suspicious because my computer has recently been a bit laggy and I can't figure out why. I keep it clean with AdAware, Symantec Professional, Spybot, RegClean, and I also defrag at least once a week or every 2 wks. So I am at a stand-still on why it's laggin, therefore I ran a HJT scan and came up with the following "missing files":

dimsntfy.dll (Winlogon Notify entry) (which I manually searched and found it in System32 and ServicePackFiles\i386 folders even though it said it was missing)

jqs.exe (Java Quick Starter Service entry) This is a new service since the latest java update that seems to run continuously in my processes even though I read online that it was only supposed to run during bootup, then stop. I found this file also in Program Files\Java\jre6\bin.

Can someone review my HJT log and tell me if i can click the "fix checked" button to remove these entries without causing any problems? Thanks.

Anyone using this HOT rated download, and will it have a direct or indirect benefit regarding popup or popunder ads? The screen shot looks pretty impressive. I'm already employing CCleaner for the drive.

Answer:CleanCache application/program

This is more of a question for the Software Forum.

Using this or CCleaner is not necesarily going to stop popups? It is not a popup stopper? It's a drive cleaner which will remove some items that could possibly be related to some problems you are having.
