Preferred Solution: I cannot view jpeg attachments in emails

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2007, How can I get my word attachments on an email I receiveto open in normal view and not in reading view?

Answer:Open word attachments in normal view and not reading view

Hi gmcin99, welcome to TSG.

This is a Word setting, not an Outlook setting. Open Word and go to Office Logo/Word Options, make sure the "Popular" section is highlighted, and uncheck the box to Open e-mail attachments in Full Screen Reading view. Hope that helps.

When I get an e-mail that has a jpeg attachment I can't open it by double clicking the attachment. When I do this the MS Photo Editor opens but there is no picture. I can save the attachment to a disk and open it through Imaging. Do I have some settings wrong or something. I have Windows 2000 as an OS.
Thanks

Answer:jpeg email attachments

Once you've saved it do you double-click it to open or do you have to open Imaging first and then File>Open? If the latter, find one of the files you've saved and highlight it. Then press Shift+ri-click and choose Open with... Choose Imaging and check the box to "Always use this program ..." That will set all files with that same extension to open with Imaging. If you have files with other extensions you'd like to open with that program, you'd have to repeat for each extension.
Now try to open from email - does it work?

I have Vista 32 Bit.

1. Quite often before I send off a photo attachment by Windows Mail I like to view what I am sending, very often I am not able to open the attachment, there appears a small window 'item not found.'

2. I sometimes get comments back that the receiver cannot open the attachment OR they only see the photo in the main body of email.

I thought I should add. I use Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Live Photo Gallery. It is possible this is the cause?

Are the two problems inter related?

Thanks for any help
Alan

Answer:Can't Open Jpeg Photo attachments

I am on an email mailing list of friends. We send photos back and forth. I have noticed that sometimes the photos show up inline in the email, and sometimes not. It doesn't seem to matter which email program any of us use.

I save them to a folder and look at them using Irfanview, a free copyrighted program, and it works everytime.

Here's one that has puzzled me from time to time, and somebody asked me it today....Why, sometimes, when an E-Mail has a Jpeg attached, does it display the attached Jpeg below the text when you open the E-Mail and other times, the attachment stays as an attachment when you open the E-Mail.(it may happen with Picture files other than J-Peg, I don't know)Any Ideas??

Answer:Jpeg Attachments display in the E-Mail.

It stays as an attatchment even when it's displayed. As far as I know, there's no way of stopping it displaying(I've tried). This issue has cropped up on here before, and as I re-call was unresolved. One way to stop it opening though is to zip it or re-name the extension(just don't forget to tell the recipient what the extension should be).AH

Maybe this belongs in a different forum, because I don't think it is a problem with email, but lately when I open a picture attachment, I only see a very thin vertical line. The dimensions and size of the file are still consistent with a normal picture, but I can only download a sliver of it. Using Gmail I can view the picture, but I can't save it to my computer or even view it though Windows Photo Gallery as a whole. Any idea what is going on, or how I can fix it?

Answer:Really strange: JPEG attachments only download partially.

I've seen this happen before with Windows Photo Gallery. It uses embedded info to display the file. That info may be corrupted.

Has this happened with many photos from different sources?

Save the file to disk(Desktop is fine for now). Right click the file and choose 'Open With'. Choose a different Photo viewer. If it is a jpg, choose 'Internet Explorer'. Irfanview is a small free photo editor that an be downloaded. You might have one with your scanner software or digital camera software.
See if it opens in a different photo editor.

Upload the problem file as an attachment, if the size or content is not restrictive.

I am assuming this is a computer issue per Att/Yahoo...

I am running Windows XP Home edition, using IE, and my ISP is ATT/YAHOO

When I am using yahoo mail, and have an attachment (picture) to view in an email, clicking on view next to the file name will not let me view the picture. My son has tried this on his computer, same file and all, and it works for him.

The only way for me to view the picture full size is to download and save to my computer. I am thinking this is a setting on my computer that will not allow jpeg files to be viewed.

My thinking is you should be able to view the file in Windows and Picture viewer program and not be required to save to hard drive.

Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it? Appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

Answer:Viewing Jpeg Attachments In Yahoo Mail

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I *think* clicking view actually downloads the full picture like if you just downloaded it.

You would have to save it to your HDD to view in the windows viewer.

I have tried Thunderbird, Outlook and Outlook Express all with the same results. In the sent email, about 20% of the picture appears normal and the remaining 80% is just a gray area. I have run a system virus scan using Norton, Spybot, CWShredder, STOP-virus scan, and PCcillin all with no change. I have run Registry Mechanic and the Norton repair utilities with no change. I have turned off Norton virus scan of incoming and out going emails with no effect. I can send large bit map attachments with no difficulty with my usual email program. I have also tried the Web Mail service and I can send JPEG files with no problem. What's different between Web Mail and these other email programs???? What's the problem??

Hello All,

Using OE6 on 98Se & unable to open attachements when double click on them. However, they are displayed in the text section.

Had been playing w/macromedia fireworks and my rcvd. attachment icons, in email, changed to FW. When I removed "fireworks" from system the icons reverted to default windows and when double clicked I get:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in my computer by clicking view and then clicking folder options."

Also, when I forward attachment I'm informed by recipient:

"isp quarantined your messages, they said they were virus infected."

and from my provider:

Your message has been enqueued and undeliverable for 4 days
to the following recipients:

Recipient address:
Original address:
Reason: unable to deliver this message after 4 days

The mail system will continue to try to deliver your message
for an additional 3 days.

I'm not a novice but an experimenter and I'm forever downloading, removing, deleting and tearing things apart for investigation.

I'm inclined to believe I'm just overlooking something as I have no trouble opening files, pictures on the PC, etc. with PSP or Irfan.

All suggestions appreciated.

When I open JPEG attachments in Outlook 2007, the system opens them with Macromedia Fireworks.

How do I change the default Fireworks to another program?

Thanks in advance.

Select the program you want to open JPG's with and select the file associations for that file type.

There are other ways to accomplish this, however this is probably the easiest to use.

Specifically I cannot open JPG and JPEG attachments inside Outlook 2003 mails WITH MICROSOFT VIEWER. Other viewers do. It appears a Microsoft viewer screen with several square figures as when the images viewing is disabled. When I drag the files to the desk there is no problem. I have re installed and "repaired" Micrsoft Office with no changes at all. I could change to Irfan or any other successful program but I prefer Microsoft Viewer because of its edition facilities. The PC and every other program are functioning pretty well (thanks to the forum guys's advices). This one appeared just today (I have made no changes or cleaning actions). I have viewed and reviewed all settings in both programs and and I do not see anything related with this trouble. Many thanks and friendly regards.

When I double click on the folder it opens and displays all the photos as thumbnails on the bottom. However, double clicking on some individual photos to view as larger image only displays the message "No Preview Available" whilst others openin this way all the time. Hi, I have win 98se with what I believe to be the latest version of IE. a few days ago, I downloaded an update from Microsoft. Several JPEGs, when I use Picasa to view them (and I don't use other file viewers, so maybe this is a Picasa problem), the bottom 60% of the picture is grayed out. In teh thumbnail pane, I can see the whole thing- but I cannot print or view the whole picture.

Sounds like a setting as it does not happen to all my photos - thanks in advance for any help from any and all!

KB2836502 - Certain JPEG images cannot be displayed (Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1). I am about to pull my hair out. I use Win XP Pro-MSN dialup internet access-and a hotmail.com email address. For some reason MSN will no longer let me send or receive emails that have attachments in the .jpeg or .jpg format. I get the error "access to the following potentially unsafe attachments has been blocked". I can go to the hotmail.com website and login to my email account & send these files just fine. The hotmail site uses Trendmicro.com virus scanning while MSN uses McAfee. I spent all afternoon trying to work with MSN tech support on this. They had me change everything except my underwear & would never consider the problem was theirs. This problem has only started occurring within the last few weeks. The files I am trying to send are family photos I've taken with a Sony digital camera & are not infected with any virus. Does anyone else have this problem. Thank you.

Can anyone suggest why JPEG files (some quite small) are not received when sent as an attachment, also as copy > paste and even as an insertion?I have XP Home with Windows 2000, is there some box I have not clicked somewhere which prevents these files being sent? Thanks for any suggestions

Answer:sending JPEG files with emails

Some ISP's refuse various attachment types(most common is .exe)To avoid this happening to me,I zip my files into a single package for emailing.

All of a sudden (without changing any security settings, etc), I cannot view any attachments that are sent to me as part of an email in OE. If the email shows an url address as an attachment, I can click on it and it will open to the url address. However, if the email contains an actual attachment in the attachment line(i.e., word document, pdf file, etc), when I click on it - it highlights it but nothing happens when I click. There were no changes done to my computer that would have affected this. I do have Norton loaded with automatic updates. There are emails with attachments that I was able to view a few weeks ago, but now when I go to those emails today, I cannot view the attachments.

I've run scans, desktop doctor, and still no luck. Any suggestions?

Hi Everyone

I'm hoping someone can help as I'm going nuts! I am using Outlook Express (don't know what version, not sure how to find that info)and have a few problems popping up.

Problem 1. I have 3 identities in use for my family and my first problem is that quite often when I want to switch identities, OE switches me over to the identity I have chosen but wont let me view anything in the preview pane or let me open any emails. I get a message saying there is not enough memory to perform this function but I close down as much as I possibly can before try to do this. The strange thing is it doesn't happen every time we want to change. When it does happen the only way I get past this is by restarting my computer which is time consuming and frustrating. This problem started a few weeks ago.

Problem 2. This has only been happening for the last couple of days and as far as I can tell, only when my identity is open. I am recieving emails and attachments but sometimes the attachment comes through and I can open it by using the paperclip icon but it only appears in the email itself as a blank box with a red cross in the corner.

Any ideas?

Please let me know if you need more info in order to help with this problem.

Thanks in advance

Fiona

Hi

I downloaded many large full sized picture files, I used the included default Microsoft Picture Viewer to view them and they filled the screen,
I saved them as JPEG, and the huge files are now Only small files /
thumbnails when I go to view them.

Is there a way to turn ON and mainly - Turn off a thumbnail View / Save

I want the big full file, not just a thumbnail / small picture
the downloads were Megabytes - the resulting saves are now tiny kb's

Are my original large files gone ?? - that was a lot of downloading

Thanks

Answer:Are JPEG pictures viewed and saved with Picture Viewer defaults to Thumbnail view ??

How do I configure Outlook Express to open photo attachments in say PaintShop pro, as opposed to Serif Drawplus, which just gives me the briefest of glimpses and then disappears. I assume the latter problem may be due to the time elapsing on its free use. My o/s is 98se. Cheers

Answer:I'd like to view my photo attachments

Associate that type of file, jpg, gif bitmap, etc. with Paintshop Pro, or which ever package you require. To do that, right click on the file while holding down the Shift key, then choose "Open With" and choose PSP as the program to open with. Also tick the little box which says "always use this application to open files of this type" (or similar).

Windows 7 Ultimate 32; Office 2010.

Starting a couple of days ago, I haven't been able to preview any attachments to email--none at all. The message is: "This file cannot be previewed. Try opening the file in which is was created."

If I start in safe mode, it is able to view all attachments without any problem, but I can't find a way to resolve it other than working in safe mode.

I haven't installed any software recently that might account for this.

I have tried many things:

Scanpst.exe repeatedly until no errors
SFC
CHKDSK
Office repair
Created new profile
Checked Trust Center settings
Checked file associations
Changed Norton Internet Security settings so it does not "protect email"

I'm at a loss.

Any advice please??

Thanks

That wasn't very thoughtful of him. PDD are Portable Digital Documents and are a Photoshop extension, tell him to use Photoshop to convert them to a standard format such as Jpeg unless, of course, you have photoshop on your system

Hi

I use Windows Live Mail installed on my PC.

Is there some way I can save the emails, including any attachments
to a folder on an external dive?

Thanks

Daniel

Answer:Saving emails with attachments

Yes you can. Windows Live Mail stored all your mail messages with extention .eml by default in :
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\YourMailAccount\inbox

If a mail message has attachments, it is also included in the message. Just copy these files to the external drive.

FYI, You can also change the mail storage location to another drive:
File->Options->Mail->Advanced->Maintenance->Store Folder

Since the summer, Thunderbird (Now on version 31.2) operating on Windows 7 has been repeatedly downloading from Yahoo any email that has an attachment. Deleting popstate.dat does not cure the problem, which is only overcome by logging into Yahoo and deleting the offending email from there. Apart from being the proverbial pain in the ***, all these repeats with attachments add significantly to my download allowance. I can find numerous instances on various forums of people having similar problems, but no offered cures, apart from the popstate.dat one.

I don't know why this suddenly started happening, as it wasn't a problem before. When I get an email with a word or excel attachment, and try to open it, it says, "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
This happens in IE10 and in Chrome as well.
I can open pdf files with no problem.
If I try to attach a document to an email to send to someone, it immediately says, "Internet explorer has stopped working..."
In Chrome, this does not happen and I can send documents with no problem and they open fine on the other end.
All of this only happens in emails. I can open document outside of email with my software with no problem.
I'm going crazy! I desperately need to open a couple excel spreadsheets and I can't!

Answer:Emails with Attachments won't send

If you are using Windows Live Mail, then to send pictures, you need to register your ID. If you look along the top, left to right, you should see a box that says something about ID?
I'm sorry, I can't remember what ID I had to use. I actually rarely use WLM, only if I want to send pictures to a particular friend. I remember having to do this before I could email pictures.
Hopefully, just doing that will rectify this issue for you.

"bt connect" got the right hump and told him to stop downloading emails of this size ( not that he had any intention of doing so). Although this email was on the face of it one of mine I did not send it, we have carried out test and it seems that any email I send to him with attachments over about 2 Mb attracts one of these huge emails headed with my details. Hello...I would appreciate anyone's help on this topic.
I am currently using Excite.com for my email. When I send an email to someone with a attachment, I go through all the proper procedures and for some reason, when the person receives my email, the attachment did not come through. All they get is my letter saying, "Hey look at this picture, isn't it funny?", but there is no picture attached.

Is there anyone out there who uses Excite.com that could possible give me a clue as to what step I may be missing?
This is so hard to figure out. Funny thing is, one friend of mine DOES receive the attachments with the emails and he is also on Excite.com. All the other people who don't receive the attachments are using different ISPs (AOL, Hotmail, MSN, local ISPs, BellAtlantic.net, Optonline, etc...).

I would really appreciate someone's help with this!

Thank you so much - Mtn626
