I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: my computer turns on but the screen stays bla

Why don't you reboot and press F8 until the boot up rescue screen comes on and choose last known best confiuration and hit enter and see where that gets you.

My screen seems to have a loose connection. It turns off when tilted back. Just a gentle touch to the back of it turns on again but then shuts off. I have to tilt it forward for it to remain on. The computer remains on, just the screen goes blank.

Got the computer from a family member, I tried fixing it for them first and I thought it was the video card so I tried a different one and still nothing. So it was unplugged and stored for months then they just gave it to me. Well I took it home and started messing with it turned it on a cple of times nothing. Moved wires around put different psu in nothing, put it back to normal it started right up powered screen up I got into windows but it had a lot of lag so I went to restart it so I could do a fresh install and screen shut off... note when it wasn't working before this point the cpu fan ran at full rpm when turned on but slowed down when it worked this first time. I turned it on and off cple times nothing unplugged psuand back in it worked enough to reinstall windows and went to restart nothing. When plugged my speakers in to see if it beeps it started up! Its toying with me, restarted it again nothing so next try I pushed on the cpu thinking the mobo was bad it started up and woked for a cple restarts and quit... I tightened. The mobo screws down to the case and worked for awhile and then started acting up on restart. It will turn on once after it sits awhile unplugged with the bios battery out. I'm confused... bad bios or the mobo? I have unplugged all things that aren't needed for start up different hd with same effect. Only thing I haven't tried yet is the ram. I'm at work and will mess with it more later. Its a compaq presario or w.e amd 3800+ 2.4 ght proc two 512m... Read more

Answer:computer turns on but screen stays black

The PSU was probably bad, replacing it should have fixed it. There may be bad caps on the motherboard or something is grounding on the MOBO to the case and causing it to not boot. Take everything apart. Take Heat Sync off of processor and apply Thermal Paste. Take MOBO out of case and check to see if there are any burn marks, bad caps, or if there are any risers missing off the case keeping the MOBO from touching the case.

So my Qosmio X770 turns on but the screen stays blank, it was randomly turning on every so often but now it just stays blank.

The hd is working fine still, I've tried plugging it into a TV to see if it works but no signal is found. I've been told by a friend that it could be a problem with the graphics card, I'm wondering if it can be simply swapped if I buy a new one or is it integrated and I would have to replace the whole motherboard?

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Qosmio X770 turns on but screen stays blank

Even if the HDD would be faulty, the notebook should power ON and you should see the Toshiba splash screen on the internal display.
So its definitely NOT HDD problem.

You said you have connected the notebook to the TV. Can you see the Toshiba splash screen on the external monitor (TV)? Are you able to access the BIOS pressing F2?

If not, there is definitely an hardware problem.
It could be an fault of memory modules, graphic card or even motherboard malfunction might be possible.

In case of GPU or motherboard problems, the whole motherboard has to be replaced and this is expensive fix since mobo is most expensive notebook part.

So, last night when I went to bed, my Lenovo G575 laptop was perfectly fine. Bright, beautiful, and overall a great screen. This morning I woke up and powered on the laptop, a dim white screen flashed, and then it compltely shut off. The is absolutely no image on the screen, not even a dim one. I have hooked up my laptop to an external monitor and am typing this message from it right now. My questions are: What might be the problem? Does Lenovo cover this since it is a hardware problem? Is there any hope left for my laptop?  Side notes: I've noticed that when I try and increase the brightness of the monitor, the bars never change it is locked in anout halfway. However any other changes work just fine.  I've already tried the method of shutting down the pc, unplugging the power, holding the power button for 30-60 seconds, and then rebooting. Nothing changes.   Help!!!  ~Alex

Answer:Laptop turns on, but screen stays black. (G575)

If you have warranty, use it.Screen may have failed, which is covered.

Hi there, I have a Toshiba Equium A300D-16C laptop.

It was fine until now...

When I press the power button, my laptop turns on but the screen remains black / off.
HDD indicator doesn't flash or anything ... ( in case this helps )
I've also tried to remove the battery, hold the power button for 30s and plug the power cord back in... Same thing laptop turns on but screen is black.

I tried to connect my laptop to my PC's monitor using HDMI cable but no success... Laptop turned on but my pc's monitor was showing nothing.

I haven't changed anything inside my laptop or unscrewed it.

I quite often kept my laptop on the bed/pillow so it may have something to do with overheating or something.

How did I get to this point:

Yesterday my laptop was fine, there was nothing wrong with it... I switched it off at night but when I tried to switch it back on this morning that's where I faced this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Answer:Equium A300D-16C turns on but the screen shows nothing/stays black

I had similar problem long time ago on my old Satellite. CPU was defective. After CPU replacement everything was OK again.
I really don?t know what to say.
Maybe you should contact Toshiba and let them check your notebook. They have diagnostic tools and can find out what the problem is.

So I have a Lenovo Y580 Ideapad I bought circa 2013/14. I've kept it pretty updated and all since then. It had Windows 8 last time I was able to use it (a few months now sadly). Before this incident, it had already happened before but it would come back on after a few tries. One time it took a whole week of trying to turn it on and off and finally it just popped up again. But this previous time I accidently let it die (I always had it charging once this issue began because I was afraid it would die and do this) and it hasn't been able to boot. I've researched this issue and I've not been able to find one specific answer. So I decided to come here and have some seasoned techs look at my issue personally. I uploaded some videos on youtube in order for you all to get a look at it and what it does when I poke around at it. Also, Idk if it would be of any relevance, but before it died it had had a long standing issue of the touchpad not working. Occasionally it would twitch or work for a few minutes but it was mostly dead (the touchpad I mean). I was never able to fix it (also I just got lazy and bought a mouse). Here is video #1 so you get a basic idea of **bleep** it's doing: is video #2 of me poking around on it and doing the restart power thing (thass tha technical name right?) so you can see what it does and doesn't do: there is any more info I can give please let me know. I recently got a Yoga 2 Pro. The screen goes blank after just a few minutes of keyboard or mouse inactivity, but the monitor stays active and lit up. I have tweaked all of the power settings, including telling it to never turn off the monitor when plugged in. I do work where I have to monitor things and need to be able to just glance up and get current information without touching the computer. It immediately comes back on if you touch a key or the mouse, but it's still aggravating to have to constantly remember to do something to keep the picture displayed. What am I missing? I've gone into the advanced power management and tweaked things but nothing seems to help. This does not sound like the "black screen" issue many people have had since it comes immediately back on. Thanks for any help. This is driving me nuts.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro picture turns off after a couple of minutes, screen stays active

To clarify, only the picture goes away...the screen turns black but still dimly backlit. The screen never completely shuts down, just what is on the display goes away.I just gave myself a thought. Maybe it's a blank-screen screen saver kicking on. Hadn't thought of that.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 running Windows 10. Several times over the past 6 months I have noticed my computer still on and the Screen has turned off. Neither the Keyboard or the Mouse responds either.
The only way I can switch off is to hold the power button for a few seconds.
I have prevoiusly made sure the Sleep options, if ever i use them, is only for the computer and never the screen.

Whenever my laptop wakes up from sleep and shows the lock screen, I click and type in my PIN as normal. But on the lock screen at the top right, there's a Cortana box usually giving an example of what I can do, like 'tap and say remind me to water the plants when I get home'.

The problem is this box stays on the screen after the computer is unlocked, and displays semi-transparently in the top left over all other windows, with the only way to remove it is to double click, have a Cortana window display full screen and then close it.

I'd like to find a way of either fixing this or disabling Cortana from the lock screen altogether as I never use this feature. Any tips would be appreciated.

I have an Asus Eee PC that I got last year for my birthday. It has Windows 7 as the operating system. When I turn to computer on it seems to be working normal. When it comes time to log into a user profile and I click on the administrator profile (which is the one I use) and type in the password. The computer logs onto the profile but the screen stays completely black. I can still hear the computer running but the screen doesn't change. This has happened before but the toolbar was always visible at the bottom of the screen and now it's not. The only thing I can do with the screen black is type in Ctrl Alt and Delete to get the menu. Nothing on the menu seems to be helping with the issue.
I decided that I better see if the same thing was happening with my guest profile too. When I logged into my guest profile everything is working fine and that's what I'm on right now. However, the administrator profile has all my documents that I need for school and work so factory resetting or the possibly of wiping the computer isn't really an option.
Thank you for your time.

Answer:Computer screen stays black

Do you get any signs of "life" (like the BIOS Info screen etc)
If so it's probably a driver issue (did you remove the old drivers before the switch) ?

If not, there are IMHO only 5 possibilities:
#1 The card wasn't seated properly -- reseat it
#2 The card draws more power than your PSU can handle -- get a better PSU
#3 you forgot to connect the extra power cable --connect it
#4 you bend one or more pins in the video cable -- replace
#5 The card is defective -- RMA

I recently bought a used computer from my work (a gateway). I'm sure they remove a lot of stuff before reselling them. When I hooked it up, it makes the music likes it's coming on, but the computer screen stays blank. It's like it's putting itself in sleep mode or something. I can't get to the control panel or anything. Does anyone know what is causing this? My place of business sold several of these, and I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing problems. Is it possible I need to run some kind of disc if they removed something vital? Thanks for any help.

When I go to turn my computer on it can't get to the windows loading screen it just stops on a blank black screen. I have/will upload a video of it happening to illustrate what is happening since I might not have described it well.

I can't post videos due to my post count but if you want to see it just PM me.

The last thing I remember my computer doing before it turned off was a virus scan then a few minutes later a blue screen with some white writing coming up so I rebooted and this happened. I have tried using my Windows CD to repair it but it hasn't worked. I can't get into safe-mode because it just stops on the black screen with white writing (Sorry for all these un-techincal names xD).

I was wondering if anyone knew what was happening? Ideally i'm looking for a fix for this so I can back-up some of my files onto an external harddrive then I want to reformat.

Thanks, Ash

After it crashed I tried restating but the screen just stayed blank.

I tested the monitor and psu on my other pc, both checks out. I tried with my old gpu and still no luck.

What happens is the screen goes black and I get a "no signal" for a split second then it just goes back to black. When this happens the fan gets loud. The computer doesn't turn off or anything, it just stays loud with a black display.
When it happens, I turn it off and turn it back on and it'll work for a while.

This happened about 3 times

1st time: Looking at steam sales
2nd time: Looking at steam sales (15 min after the 1st time)

then a 3rd time about an hour later after watching some videos (without steam opened because up to this point it only happened with it opened so i didn't open it). this time I had a video opened while I opened a game and it happened instantly as I double clicked the game.

I turned it back on and opened the game to test it, and it didn't happen like it did before.

The temperatures seem to be nowhere near high.
I'm assuming it's a video card problem?

Could it be anything else?

Answer:Screen blacks out randomly but computer stays on

I would certainly start with the video card. Check to see if it is working properly. You could check for updates for your driver and there is a possibility that it just may need replaced but start there and remember to write back as to what happened.

If I let the computer sit unused, the screen goes black, as most monitors would; however, the screen stays dark when I move the mouse or hit buttons or something. Similarly, if I close the lid of my laptop when its turned on, and then open the lid, the screen stays black. Not only that, but when I closed the lid of the laptop, the computer never turned off. It was still running.

I reset the power options to default as well, so there is nothing wrong there.

Perhaps I should also mention that the screen successfully turns off and on in safe mode? The computer, however, does remain on instead of going into hibernation.

I had another problem where safe mode worked but a normal boot did not, just yesterday. and the people on techguy helped me then too; I'm not sure if it's related, but here is the link to that solved thread:

All this time the monitor stays blank and I've tried to plug the monitor into both the onboard graphics and the nvidia graphics card. Any help on the case would be greatly appreciated.

I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks now. When I turn on my computer it loads up to the black screen with the windows logo and the loading bar with the scroll across green thing. It will just stay on that screen until i turn it off. If i turn it off and turn it on again it will bring me to the screen that allows you to choose safe mode and other options. It will load on safe mode but if i try to turn it on again without safe mode it gets stuck on the screen. So I do a system restore and choose a few days back and the system restores and i can startup my computer just fine. However everytime i shutdown my computer it has the same problem of not getting past that screen. What can i do?? Thanks for your help.

Answer:During Startup Computer Stays On Windows Loading Screen

Hi and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.
Try running chkdsk while in Safe Mode.
Go Start > Run and type CHKDSK /F /R
you might need to reboot. If that doesn't work go to My Computer, Right click on C drive, Find the tools tab and click it then click check now.

With Regards,

If I let the computer sit unused, the screen goes black, as most monitors would; however, the screen stays dark when I move the mouse or hit buttons or something. Similarly, if I close the lid of my laptop when its turned on, and then open the lid, the screen stays black. Not only that, but when I closed the lid of the laptop, the computer never turned off. It was still running.

I reset the power options to default as well, so there is nothing wrong there.

Perhaps I should also mention that the screen successfully turns off and on in safe mode?

edit: Just tried a system restore to two weeks ago and the system crashed. Both times.

Well Every time I hook this computer up after a while the monitor screen turns black. The little orange light turns orange indicating that there is no signal. The weird thing is my computer tower light is still on but when i try to hold down the power button on the tower its unresponsive. So then i have to completely disconnect the power cord. Right now im runnning in safe mode with Networking (duh) and im not having any trouble. It seems to be software related. Answer:monitor turns black but tower stays on

It sounds like a problem with your PC rather than the monitor. Does it happen under a certain set of circumstances, for example when the grpahics card is being put under strain by a game? The first thing I'd do is visit the ATI site and update the drivers for your graphics card. If that doesn't resolve it, try taking the side off your tower and, if possible, stand a fan near it so that cool air blows across the components. Run the PC and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, you can almost certainly put it down to an overheating problem.WARNING - if you're not familiar with the insides of a PC, don't go randomly sticking your hand in there, even if it's powered off.

2 weeks ago I started having an issue with my pc. When I boot it up and I open programs my pc monitor goes black. Now I know its not the display because even if I am playing music and it goes black all sounds stops letting me know that its not just the display its something greater. I sent my motherboard off to the manufacture and they sent me another one back. I also reformatted the hard drive and I am still having this issue. I have also deleted current drivers and installed older ones that are 3 months old and even 2 years old to try and fix the problem. I am really desperate here and I am not sure whats going on. I hope someone can help me I have linked a video below ignore everything in the video that I say the only part that applies is the part where the computer turns off when I open programs

Answer:monitor turns off but pc stays on. Not sure whats happening

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I found it was due to my APC battery backup. For some reason the threshhold level for the thing got out of whack. I reset it and that took care of the problem.

I am attempting to remove a virus from a friend's toshiba a505-s69803 laptop.. in the transportation process i spilt a bit of water on the laptop but i do not think it effected the computer, because i was able to use the computer for days afterwards.. while trying to remove the virus in safe mode the computer would not let me run any anti-malware programs, and then subsequently shut down... now, when i try to start up the computer the keyboard lights turn on and the disc drives and fans begin working, but the screen remains blank... there are no signal beeps to indicate a hardware malfunction, and the three of the five lights on the front of the laptop (3 on the left side) are on... ive tried all the troubleshooting techniques on the forums, i.e. removing the battery and running on ac power, and vice versa, holding down the power button for 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, and 2 mins, all to no avail.. another computer savvy friend of mine said that some of these new viruses are smart enough to write itself to the bios which would prevent the computer from starting up... he recommended flashing the bios, but i do not know how to do so on a black screen, or if it might have been the water damage that may be causing a hardware problem (im thinking motherboad or video card if so)... any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Answer:Laptop will start up but screen stays black, not a computer amateur but need help!

These new viruses are truly evil... and wide spread. We have had over 30 cases since Wednesday... all doing what you describe.

But the Toshiba is also infamous for having the screen inverter go bad... cheap to replace but darn difficult to get at quickly.

Can you connect an external monitor to the VGA port on the back of the Toshiba to see what you get there?

A few days ago, I had a power bump at my house. The next day I tried to start my computer and all I get is a bright white screen on my monitor. I tried my monitor on another computer and it works fine. Does anyone have some information to help me with this problem. Thanks

Answer:Monitor displays a white screen when starting my computer and it stays that way

Does the computer seem like there is any activity at boot...Hard drive activity etc? Might be a blown video card if the system seems like it is booting up and all you see if white screen with no splash screen that says the manufacturers name like HP etc. If this system doesnt have a video card if it is integrated, you can install a video card and see if you get different results.

So i just bought a new Gigabyte GTX 770, had a 650 before and everything worked. I have the Gigabyte GA-970a-ud3 mainboard with 2 PCI-E Slots, both 16x but one runs with 4x. If i put the graphics card in the top slot (16x) LEDs light up and fans start running , i hear the windows 7 welcome screen sound through the speakers but the screen stays black, but if i put the card in the bottom slot (4x) everything works, besides the fact that the graphics card is slow as hell.
Both PCI power cables plugged into it, i tried removing all drivers, resetting cmos.
I dont know what could possibly be wrong but maybe you do, so thanks in advance

Hey Jason,
Some times 3rd Party software creates conflict during the startup.
You can try booting into Safe mode with Networking and disable unwanted 3rd Party Startup Programs and services from MSCONFIG and Task Manager in case of windows 8. You can also run a malwarebytes scan to check for Malwares.

Been having a few issues with my Flex 3 that I got 3 days ago. On Friday night, I got an automatic Windows update (that I accidentally interrupted and had to restart), which did not complete until the next morning. Even though it said it completed, when I checked the update settings it said "There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:" However, the computer has been running stable since and it hasn't asked to update again. Another problem (which I'm not sure if the botched update described above influenced) is that while the computer worked fine all Saturday, today it started doing something weird. Occasionally, the screen goes black (backlight is still on) and the internals seem to shut off while I'm using the computer, as the hard drive stops whirring and the computer itself seems to go to sleep. However, the power button nor the keyboard can seem to wake it up and I end up having to do a hard reset to power it back on. Oddly, the power and battery lights are still on and I can still switch on the keyboard backlight. This happens even when the battery is above 50% full. I have it on the charger now and it doesn't do it, but it seems to happen when the computer is unplugged. Help please?

After getting a couple blue screens I am having the following issue:

When I turn my computer on, the fans and drives all start up. After approx. 2 seconds the computer shuts itself off. After another 2 seconds the computer turns itself back on again. This time it stays on but i have no monitor output. I don't hear a beep which tells me it is probably not posting.

I have read a few other threads that have a similar issue but not the same. I am thinking it is either the mobo, GPU, or PSU.

I would like any guidance and assistance that you guys can give me on this specifically what i should look at first and how to diagnose. Thanks. system specs below:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

Motherboard Short

I have helped somebody who had a similar issue and it was the motherboard being shorted out by the case. We took the motherboard out of the case and it booted up just fine. Something you might want to try before purchasing new components.

2nd Problem, occasionally when i turn on the computer it wont boot up. The screen will turn on and stop with a dash blinking in the top left corner, not proceeding to any boot up of any kind, and just recently while i shut it down from this sort of freezing up, little pictures of pixel hearts and dots started appearing until i shut it off. Ok, I've been going through some of my old stuff and found some old computers, and i've been trying to build a system from different parts. These are the following:

Videocard: 7600gt
Motherboard: P4 Titan 533 GA-8SR533
CPU: Pentium 4. (im 99.99% sure, but the written stuff has been rubbed off =(..)
PSU: Codegen 300W

I've built this system, took it apart, dusted it all off did EVERYTHING i can to try and fix it. When i try and turn it on, it turns on, (i can tell by the fans spinning and lights turning on the MB) but nothing comes up on the screen. I know its not the monitor because when i plugged the monitor out of the videocard, it says no signal on the screen. When i turn the computer on im pretty sure its not the videocard because the screen's power is blinking with green? (thats what i read from the internet )

So i tried my best to fix up this old computer, and the last option i need is anything involving MONEY, (Im veryyy short on money atm...)

Thankss =]

Answer:Computer turns on but nothing on screen

Have you installed the drivers for the 7600GT ?
That is probably not the problem, but the card may be defective... How do you know the video card is good? If not working, it may not show anything on the screen.

CPU: AMD 6400 duo core
RAM: 4gigs
Video: Geforce 8900

I was playing a game when the system just turned off. Prevously, I had a few times it reboot. The system will turn on ( fans and leds' ) and HD loads and CD loads but I get no video on monitor nor do I hear any system beeps or seems like it is getting past the BIOS load. I took the machine to a shop and they said my PSU was bad... So I purchased a new one online since nobody locally carries anything above a 450w same one as I had before 700W. I installed new PSU but I get the same simptoms.

I took out the motherboard out of the case and put only 1 stick of ram in it reseated the cpu with heatsink and fan with new heat paste. Plugged in the VGA adaptor for onboard video. Plugged power into the motherboard at the main adaptor and the cPU 12v. I short the power swt to turn it on and I get the same thing. Fans turn on LED on. No beeps or video. I tried a 2nd speaker and tried again no change. Any suggestions?

Answer:Computer turns on but no screen

It's possible you let your computer get too hot and it burnt up the motherboard... that or possibly the graphics card... if it's getting power but not posting, then it's not your power supply, although it may have been bad too. It's either going to be your motherboard, graphics card, or processor... a failure in either three could cause it to not show up... You saying it doesn't have any bios beeps leads me to believe it's either the motherboard or the processor, not just the graphics card.

Ok so my brothers computer will turn on but there is no screen, it says "no Signal".

heres the story. When I unplug the computer from the wall then plug it back in, it will turn on automatically. The computer will also not show anything on the screen..I've tried changing out power supplies, video cards (the current video card he is using is on board, I switched to after market) I also tried changing all power cords and display cords. I'm not sure what else it could be other than maybe the motherboard or harddrive? Its a Dell with windows xp I don't know much more about it other than its not a pavilion is a custom build from a local dealer. Any and all insight/advice would be helpful, thank you.

Answer:Computer Turns on but no screen?

Try clearing the CMOS. There should be a jumper on the motherboard labeled "CMOS CLEAR". If you can't find this jumper, then remove the battery, unplug the computer from the wall, and push the power button. After this it should boot. If it does not boot make sure that the PC Speaker is plugged in to the appropriate jumper and pay attention to the code coming from it.

Report back with your findings as clear and concise as possible.

Answer:Computer turns on to blank screen

Usually the amber color indicates a power problem... as if your power adapter or cable to the power adapter is broken, or the power socket is damaged.

Hello. I've come to hopefully find a solution to a boot up problem I'm having with my computer. There are several factors that I'm honestly not sure will play a role or not, mainly because I'm not very understanding when it comes to computers.

The problem is that when I push the power button of my computer, it sends no signal to my screen. I can't tell if it loads anything or not either. I can think of a few things that might have some effect on this, but I'm not sure.

About three months back after cleaning my neglected tower of dust and such, it started to shut off rapidly after boot up. To inspect the problem, I had a friend look at the computer. He removed the cooling unit on the Processor revealing that my 8year old computer had next to no thermal compound. So after putting of ordering some for about three months, we had applied some about 2 days ago. The computer then booted up fine, but seemed to have an excess amount of lag. So I wiped the computer and reinstalled XP tonight. When it was booted up, it worked fine, so I went into IE to download firefox as it's my preference, then started reinstalling my drivers. First I installed my Videocard, then kept my computer booted up for my sound drivers which I got from the Compaq homesite. After doing this, I rebooted my computer. Not I wanted to get simple things such as AIM and and Java. So when i go to boot up Firefox from it's default homepage, my computer shuts down. when I go to reboot it, it doesn't start and I'm ... First off, this is my first time on these forums, and i'm not sure if it's in the correct ones, so if an admin can move it or something? thx,

Allright, so about 2 and a ½ year ago i bought my MSI, which i've been enjoying quite a lot. I use it daily for gaming and school related work, but 2 days ago, the screen suddenly turned black (while gaming) and then said a kind of "RRRRRR" noise. I restarted it, and it worked fine again.

Today, the computer did the same thing 4 times, expect that the screen turned light blue this time. It still said the "RRR" sound, I update my drivers regularly, and i just updated them before it happened again. Restarting works by the way.

I'm using a MSI GT663R, with these specs:
CPU: Intel core I7-720QM
VGA: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 460m / 1,5GB DDR5
LED Panel: 15,6 FHD, 1920x1080 (Glare Type)
Ram: DDRIII 6GB (2GB*3)
HDD: 1TB (500GB*2 RAID 0) 7200RPM
RF: 802.11b/g/n

That's atleast what it says on the sticker on the PC, note that i'm not very good with computers and i'm really hoping to get a simple fix, because i don't want to use money to get it repaired if not necessary.

Thank you really much in advance, i really love my PC, and it was quite expensive, for what i earn, so i really hope it isn't broken or something similar

Hi I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I got it for my birthday, I think I got it on the 13th of September, it worked completely fine for a long time and then I can remember one day I just would not turn on, I tried and tried to get it to turn and it just wouldn't do it, the next morning it turned right on...with no problem at all, and then it was fine until about the end of January, then it turned off once and I got it to come back on after trying several times, then the next day when I went to use it again, it would turn on but the screen would not work, and it has been like this ever since, I have gone on the dell technical support website and they were no help at all. They had me taking out the hard drive, and the media board, and all of this other stuff and they didn't tell me anything, all they basically had me do was take it apart and put it back together. My father bought me this computer and it was the last birthday present I got from him before he passed away, so I am deeply attached to it. So if there is anything anyone can tell to do to fix this I would greatly appreciate it. THANK YOU.

Answer:Computer Turns on but Screen Does Not... Please reead this

Could be a number of things most likely your graphics card/ monitor, is your computer situated in a particulary warm or cold place?

Checked the fuse?

Is the environment particularly dusty?

Do the cables look secure in there ports?

Have you tried holding in the power button on your computer without any power leads in?

these are some basics to try, if that doesn't work we need to address a deeper issue.

Inverters and bad backlights can be hard to diagnose without just replacing the parts but it sounds as one or the other is out/going out.
If you check these out yourself, good luck. Laptops are a bear and unless you've done a few, a repair shop may be best.
Good luck.

Ok so, im trying to help my friend with her broken computer.
She got hit with the avsoft virus, It took me a while but I finally got malwarebytes on her system, and had to rename the .exe in order to get it to run in safemode and it seemed to have worked pretty well, i then wanted to boot it in normal mode and run a full scan to make sure we got everything.
Anyway, we were experimenting with it for whatever reason (i guess malware removal had us feeling brave) and we unhooked her monitor, and plugged her desktop computer via the monitor cord into my laptop. i know that you can plug a monitor into a laptop and use that instead of the laptop screen, so we wanted to see if it would work with the desktop instead of the monitor. You know, like use my laptop as the monitor and keyboard.
I went into the my laptops nvidia control panel and messed around with some of the settings
All of a sudden my laptop screen went black.
I just rebooted, and my laptop was fine but when we plugged her monitor back into her desktop and rebooted it would not reboot correctly.

The lights on the computer would turn on, you can hear it is running, the fans are running, it makes one beep, just like a normal startup. the screen displays a logo (not the windows logo) an everex logo for a few seconds, and then some text comes up (like normally) and looks like it proceeds to load but it flies by so quick you cant read it, and then nothing. A big black blank screen.

So, obviously I don't know whats wrong with my computer. I play WoW and that shouldn't be to hard on my system. Whenever I play, my screen goes all wonky after awhile, sometimes its 10min, sometimes it'll last an hour. There will be bars going across the screen and the graphics will be all screwed up. Sometimes my monitor will just shut itself off and won't turn back on, I'll have to restart to get it to turn on again. Other times my computer will beep and shut off completely, sometimes a blue screen will come up with a bunch of writing, but it turns off so fast that I don't have time to read what it says. Its usually fine doing anything else, browsing the net or even watching a movie, its when I play a game it gets all screwed up. When I'm not even touching the computer it occassionly turns off! Well idk if it actually turns off but my tower will go completely silent, then it will start up again but it'll be on the exact same screen it was on to begin with, it doesn't restart... idk what it does. But when that happens a msg comes up saying 'usb device not recoginized' and i have no usb devices plugged in that are not recognized. The unknown device is apparently 'Universal Serial Bus controllers'... idk what that is, but when i look in my device manager thats the only unknown device. Hopefully someone can help me!

A friend asked me to look at her Toshiba Satellite L455 Laptop. Apparently her dog chewed the power cord while her daughter was playing on it. The computer shut down. I replaced the motherboard thinking that was it and that didnt help. I replaced the screen inverter and the backlight and neither of them worked. The computer does turn on but the screen is black.. What could be the problem? If I replace the screen would that work?

Hi Everyone,
This is my first time posting on these forums. I have a dell inspiron 5447, and I love it. It looks great, and, for the most part, runs well. However, whenever I move the laptop, or even slightly touch it, whether i move the screen or touch the body of the laptop, the screen glitches on and off, sometimes a few times in quick succession. When this happens, the touchpad also disables itself, and sometimes turns itself back on, but I usually have to go in to mouse settings and disable the mousepad and reenable it for it to work. I am thinking I need to send it in to be repaired, but I am not sure what the problem could be, or how much it may cost. I am also a college student that needs a laptop, so I cannot be without one for a long time.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Computer Screen turns on/off, touchpad does the same.

Please run the diagnostic tool to check the hardware on the system by following steps below.
1. Power off the system. Remove all peripherals except AC adapter
2. Power on system, quickly start tapping the F12 continuously until you see Preparing one time boot menu in the top right corner of the screen. In the boot menu, stroll down to Diagnostic and then click on it.  After quick tests, click on Hard drive, and select Thorough Test Mode.

Hi, at first I thought this might be virus related. I went through with help from Howard_Hopkinso, and removed all virus' and malware. But my problem persists.

I have an Alienware Area 51 m7700, 120 Gig HD, 3 Gig memory, 3.8 GHz Pentium 4 HT duo processor. NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra.

What happens is when i try and playing a source game for little while the screen goes black, sound skips, but the laptop still runs. Also happens when i click on certain internet links.

I assume that i need updated drivers, which i did. but that didn't work either.

I am lost, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Screen Turns Black, but computer still on

Try doing a system restore... If this doesn't work, you will have to wipe the laptop's hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows

After running my computer for approximately 10 to 20 minutes the monitor shuts down without any warning and simultaneously the sound cuts off, rending my computer unresponsive and useless. I suspect it's overheating but I have never experienced these issues before, they are obviously obstructing my work.

I have an ADM Radeon HD 5670 and I have never experienced or noticed the device reaching over 60 Celsius. The ventilator works within normal parameters as far as I can see with the Catalyst Control software and as far as I know all drivers are up-to-date.

I have posted my system information in a previous post regarding BSOD here in case it is of any relevance.

I hope someone is able to provide me with some help, I'd hate to buy a new video card.

Answer:Screen turns off, computer frozen.

The PC itself shuts off or is it still on? This is an important factor!

If it just completely shuts off, most likely one of these:

You could be having a power supply going bad.

You could have a dead case fan.

Thermal paste and/or heatsink/fan on CPU has failed in some way.

Heating failure is something that just shows up one day, so welcome to the wonderful world of PCs.

Turns out all my problems were an aged battery, according to the tech shop who reinstalled windows after some deeprooted viruses. But now my laptop won't shut down all the way, but the screen turns off. The keyboard's LEDs stay on, and the fan keeps blowing. It stayed that way for at least five minutes, between me getting a snack and coming back. I don't know if they reinstalled from the disc that shipped with the laptop or gave me a knew windows 7, but this particular issue only started when they reinstalled the OS.

Answer:Computer won't shut down, screen just turns off.

Recently my computer started acting up and shutting down randomly while under high load. Now it won't even boot into the bios and I'm left with a blank screen. On my motherboard I'm getting an error 62 (Installation of PCH runtime services) and when I tried using a new graphics card, I would get an A6 error (Detection of SCSI devices). Anyone know what's going on and how I can fix these errors? I am under the assumption right now that I fried my gpu but before I just go and buy a new one I'd like to be sure my problem is not solvable without new parts.

My configuration is Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, X1950XTX Radeon, 2gb ram, 250HD, 500w powersupply.
So one day I'm using my computer, which had been working wonders for 3 months, and it just shuts down. Then it wouldn't turn back on, at all, no power anywhere. So, I replaced the power supply. I made no other changes other than the power supply. Now it powers up, all the fans turn on (including from the video card), LED light turns on, even the CD rom driver works but I get nothing at all on the screen. And since i get a blank screen with both of my monitors I can't see how it's a monitor problem. I also get no beeps when I turn the computer on, and although I am not sure, I think the hard drive disk spins.

I can't see how it would be the video card since it was previously working and nothing changed on that. The only thing that makes sense to me is that when the old power supply broke the motherboard or, i hope not, the CPU got damaged. Has anyone seem or heard of someone having a similar problem? What Should I try? How can I find out if its the mother board or the CPU malfunctioning? Thank you for the help.

Answer:Computer Turns on but Screen is Blank! Tried Everything, Please Help!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First things first, when you installed the new PSU, did you connect the power cord to your graphics card? Did you connect two power connections to your motherboard? Both the 24 pin and the ATX12v connectors?

Assuming you did, I'd strip down to the basics to help with the troubleshooting. Remove your motherboard from the case, and set it on a box beside your case. Intall ONLY the cpu/heatsink, one stick of ram and your graphics card (unless you have onboard graphics as well, in which case do not install your graphics card).

Connect the case's speakers to the motherboard.

Connect your monitor to the graphics, and then use a screwdriver to quickly "short" the two pins normally connected to the case's power on switch.

Tell us exactly what happens at this point. What lights are on, what fans are spinning, and what beeps you are getting. Good luck!

Also, please give us your motherboard make/model number, as well as your PSU maker name.

This morning when I turned on my computer the screen image rippled a few times, then seemed to be ok. Shortly after that, the screen froze, became pixelated, then turned completely white. I shut the computer down, waited a few minutes then turned it back on. This happened 2 more times. What can be wrong with my computer? Do I have a virus or malware? And how can I fix it?

Hi all,

My faithful desktop of 2 years has started pushing up daisies:
I was playing GTA5 when the monitor lost connection to the computer and I had to restart. When I started back up, the message that appears after a bluescreen popped up. This started happening more and more frequently, whenever I started any game, then sometimes when I'd just have Firefox open, then about half the time I tried to start up the computer it'd happen at the login screen.

I did a Malwarebytes scan a few days before this started happening and it turned up clean, and I haven't changed the hardware in 2 years. I tried updating my video card drivers, to no avail.

The weird thing is how inconistent it is--I was able to play GTA for several hours last night, then it happened again. Sometimes it automatically restarts, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the power light flashes. Sometimes it makes me go through Startup Repair (which never finds anything).

I have no idea what could be causing this. BlueScreenView says it's a graphics driver about half the time, but not all the time. Memtest86 said the RAM was fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can post SysInfo results and the minidump files if they'd help; I'm on my laptop right now because the system in question is really unreliable.

Thanks in advance.

I've been trying to solve this problem for over a months, going on different forums, trying to contact a one on one guy to help me, pressing all types of buttons on my keyboard but nothing seems to be working!

I have an all in one Dell desktop that refuses to display not even the start up logo. This problem happened right after I updated my computer. The update said it was going to automatically restart but it didn't and just turned off so I decided to turn it on and thats when it all begun.

I'm not 100% sure if it was the update or could be another problem. I should mention that when i turn on my computer an amber or orange light is present as if it's sleeping rather than the normal white light.

I've tried to reinstall windows on a flash drive but I'm lost and don't know where to go past the everything is installed in the flash drive now I plug it in.

I've haven't had any success in finding a solution anywhere near close so I would really appricate the help!

Heys, nice to meet everyone.
Well my first problem is that ever since i got my pc (6 yrs ago) it frequently restarted. So i turned off automatically restart & frequently got bsods. The first was DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL & the second one was PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I searched on google the problems and it said something about my NIC & Sound Driver. So i decided to open up my computer and try to swap my NIC whilst in the process just check out my graphics card and my ram to see if it was faulty, After that i turned on my computer and at first it beeped, then made this screechy sound for a split second and i smelt something weird. After that i turned it off re-inserted the RAM, NIC, GC & when i turn it on i get a blank screen. Both my cd drives keep resetting or blinking and wont open up, All my fans work & the red light and green light under my power button just stays there.

Specs of my computer:
- Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
- NVIDIA Geforce4 MX440SE 64mb
- PC333 512mb RAM x 2 (1024mb)
- 80GB HD + 120GB HD
- GIGABYTE Motherboard (MODEL: GA-8SG800)

The BSODs are caused when i play games like; Counter-Strike & Warcraft III. Also while i listen to music using WMP10. It can sometimes just be caused from sitting there.

Answer:Computer Turns On but Blank Screen & BSOD

Hey guys I'm hoping for some help on this one, since i can't seem to figure out what exactly is wrong. I've had my Y510 for about 2 years or so and the only thing ever to go wrong was the right hinge. All of a sudden the other day, I would turn my computer on and only the media buttons/ processor lights would turn on. The screen was totally blank, not even backlit or anything. I tried connecting the compter to an external monitor but I still didn't get anything. Even pressing the NOVO recovery button didn't do anything. Any Ideas would greatly be appreciated. UPDATE: I was reading an article/faq that showed very similar to my problem, however lenovo says I need to update my BIOS. But how would I even going about doing so when I can't even get the lcd to turn on?

Answer:Y510, Computer turns on but blank screen.
