Preferred Solution: Windows Vista USB pendrive detection issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Disable software installation, disable pendrive detection, Educational videos

Friends i have got answer for few questionsAns 1) you can just simply disable the "windows installer service". Just go to run and type "msconfig" and under the services tab find and uncheck the service. It works for all versions of windows.Ans 2 ) For problem number two go here(for USB drive)-> Cd driveStart > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives >Right click on each drives & disable.

I realize this is an audio issue but since it is audio over hdmi I figured this was the correct forum.

I am running the latest Windows 10 build and graphics drivers. I just updated using the Intel utility but problem occurring before and after, however I am not sure if the Intel Display audio is updated along with it. I cannot find it as a standalone on Intel site and windows device mgr says it is up to date. The version is

I am running an HP Envy Desktop 750-437c using onboard graphics Intel 530 with two hdmi outputs. I realize Windows (rather annoyingly) limits audio output through both at the same time by default so rather than use a software solution or a splitter , I just toggle the display audio output. I tried nircmd originally to do this but now I have been resorting to using the volume icon in the system tray. Windows 10 conveniently now allows you to toggle audio between audio outputs without going into playback devices. Left click on the volume icon and if more than one device is detected you click the down arrow and select it.

In general this works fine. However occasionally I get the issue where one of the connected audio devices is not detected or rather loses detection because it occurs without powering off. Windows still detects the two displays, however, through the same two hdmi cables that are suppose to carry the audio. The display is also lost in playback devices dialog box. The only way to workaround the issue is to log ... Read more

Recently, I upgraded a friend's computer and operating system from Windows XP to Windows Vista. I ran into very few kinks until recently, when the new hard drive I added stopped working. Upon inspecting the problem, I checked the BIOS to find that the second hard drive was detected, but it only 'occasionally' is detected by Windows. I've been at a loss for what to do to solve the problem. As far as I can detect, all of the Windows drivers are up to date. ...And yes, I jiggled the wires: I wouldn't be coming to you guys if I didn't. Any suggestions? I know may not be the most appropriate section for this problem, but any help would be greatly appreciated from the experts. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Windows Vista Hard Drive Detection

I know you jiggled the wires but have you tried different sata and psu cables and tried a different sata port on the motherboard?

In December my PC "died" on me so after some thinking time I bought an HP Pavilion with Windows Vista (no alternative)
Quad core, real fast, but running Vista? %@&%! .Okay, I won't go too deep into this.
Since I could not get XP intalled instead, I decided on Windows 7 and now Windos 7 RC1.
This all works fine. I have a local network connected to a Linksys BEFW11S4 V4 which connects to my DSL modem.
There are 4 PC's in the same Workgroup all working fine, can see each other, share a Netdisk which is attached to the router and a LinkSys wireless print server which all can use.
OS on the others are one 98 2ed, rest XP professional.
The HP (under Vista and both 7 versions) see the router, connect tothe Internet, see the netdis as well as the print server but cannot connect.
What could be the reason?
The moment I connect any other XP system it sees all and shares all but not this one.
I hope my story above means something to someone and maybe he/she can halep and has some tips.
I cannot print and I cannot access the netdrive (I can through FTP but the files are corrupted when I transfer them to my HP)

Today I plugged in my flash drive, but when I tried to open it, it said "Please insert a disk into (H"

I just wanted to reinstall my Windows 10 from flash, because it became very slow, and I can format my SSD from startup when installing, and that is better way.

Model: TOSHIBA TransMemory USB Device

Answer:I have an issue with my pendrive.

I do believe it has died. If the controller in the USB key can't see the memory chips (or they don't work any more) Windows reports "insert disk".

You'll have to buy a new one I'm afraid.

I found out from a different forum how to disable it, so this I did through windows "services" but I don't necessarily think that that has cleared the problem and I'm worried that there is now a harmful program running on my computer. Help would be appreciated thanks.

Answer:"Fix for issue of HDD w/HD detection" install issue

Just a quick note :  this is no longer an issue (for me) - no need for response. If anyone else encounters the same issue [continually receiving "Problem Ejecting ... After you type: "schtasks /create /xml C:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXES\DISKUPDT\DiskUpdate.xml /tn DiskUpdate" (from the install instructions)  -  open TaskScheduler  [Start button > Search box > type "taskschd.msc"]  >  in Task Scheduler Library > find DiskUpdate >  right click >  Run.  Thanks

Having a small issue with my laptop. i looked all over the internet and alas i came up with nothing whatsoever.
I ordered my laptop off of microsoft website because they had a deal for students, this was about 3 years ago.
The other day i was watching a stream on my laptop and it started making clicking noises and froze my computer, i restarted chrome and everything worked fine again.
then about a week later watching another stream, the clicking noises began again only this time it shut my computer off. so i turned it back on and this error came up(No boot device detected. strike F1 to retry boot Strike F2 to run setup utility or F5 to run onboard system diagnostics.)
So naturally i clicked retry boot a couple million times but to no avail nothing worked.
So i ran my onboard diagnostics. and it came up with hard drive not connected. so i was like okay my hard drives fried. so i connected a different one... same error message
So now ive come here for solutions, ive never in my life resorted to posting online about a situation. but this is just insane. either the connection from my computer to my hard drive is fried, Both my hard drives are fried or something in the softwares messed up.
All im asking for is a solution... Thanks.

Hi guys

I've a Macbook Pro with the Win7 build 7000 running on it. Everything works fine except the microphone detection of the Realtek HD adapter. the macbook pro only has 2 jacks. one for the headphones and the other should be the mic/line-in.

By plugging in the mic from my headset, the realtek audio manager just shows me an input device instead of the microphone.
The built-in mic from the macbook works fine, but I prefer using my headset for skype.

Is there any workaround to fix this issue? how can i "tell" the realtek audio manager, that the plugged device is a mic?

I already installed the lates realtek HD drivers (2.18) and tried to assign the mic/line-in manually over the registry (Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX )), but nothing could solve this problem.

here are some screenshots which are describing the issue. yes it's a german installation :-)

many thanks

Long story short, I had a malware infestation on my laptop.  I currently have run the latest versions of the following:
Avast - Full scan
MBAM - Full scan
Trend Micro Anti Threat
Each one of these seemed to find things here and there, but I still have the problem. Combofix and aswMBR will not run due to "A device attached to the system is not functioning" error.
In Safe Mode Combofix will start to run but then I get a BSOD and reboot.  asw will come up but won't scan says "Error loading driver" when it starts then "Scan Error" when you try to run a scan.
I have two particular URL's coming up that Avast is currently blocking: and plus one URL that is just an IP.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi, first post here for me.. After successfully installing the latest version of Java (6.0.260) and then running the detection tool, it keeps telling me it does not detect Java on my computer. I've tried rebooting after install, uninstalling and reinstalling, using the offline version and every troubleshooting tip listed after the non-detection message. I'm using IE10 with the 32-bit browser. Java used to run fine until lately. I'd appreciate any suggestions on other solutions. Everything I've tried has failed. Thanks!

Hi, When I connect the USB DVD drive ( which came with the laptop) to any USB ports, it recognizes at first and when I access the drive it disconnects and then this just goes on (along with that god awful notification sounds) . I faced something similar with my external HDD earlier but now having updated BIOS and enabled power in USB in BIOS, the hdd is working fine. I tried connecting the USB dvd drive thru a USB hub and then it works fine however if i switch back to the laptop port it starts having the problem. Any solutions? Just got my GTA V dvds and the installation time on the usb hub is killing me. Thanks

To enable movie viewing on 55" LCD TV

This is a pain in the rear for me but it is the only way to get the HDMI audio recognized as a valid option in Audio Playback devices. (Video always works but the audio is says not connected)

To get the HDMI Audio detected, I have to....
First - On my TV I have to select the HDMI channel that is connected to my PC
Second - I have to un-plug and plug-in the HDMI cable. (I can hear the Windows 7 found hardware sound)
Third - Now I can select HDMI as my default audio device (everything works great)
I usually have to repeat this process any time the PC or TV gets shut off. I am worried about wearing out the HDMI port by plugging and un[lugging so often. This can't possibly be the way it is supposed to work.

This is not an intermittant issue - it is a matter of the ATI HDMI detecting the audio connection and is very repeatable and consistant. All drivers ATI and VIA audio are the latest to date as of today.

Maybe it is the Plug&Play component - TV has to be on when turning on the PC or I have to manually force the detection process (as above)

Video = ATI 4550

Answer:ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue

I have read many post on this issue and First of all yes the TV must be on at all times on the HDMI signal if you don't want the signal broken don't turn the tv off use you're power saving feature

Let windows turn the monitor off for you that way simple mouse movement will bring back the screen also you should be able to right click and disable onboard then enable the HDMI sound by right clicking

I might add using power saving feature is the only way to keep from breaking the HDMI connection also i don't advise any heibernation or sleep mode because that will just break the signal the best thing to do is let windows turn the monitor off but do not put your machine in sleep mode or any other power save featurn just treat your tv as a monitor

I find this the only and best way to work the ati cards and yes you keep unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable something is bound to go wrong eventually

In Windows 7/8 I've used this program called multiple monitor switcher to change monitor profiles from 1 to 3 to TV etc. In Windows 10 it seems that the display settings once a monitor is disconnect it won't find it again unless I enable it inside of Nvidia control panel which 7,8 never had to do. Does anyone know a way around this, it's super annoying to have to open up nvidia control panel every time i have to change monitor profiles.

Hello guys.
I have a small issue with a drive being detected from within my PC that works from an external caddie.
For a few years i have had two drives inside my system. C drive and F drive. I recently removed both drives when i went off to India for a few weeks for security reasons. Today i find the F drive is not showing up. It is listed under "Show hidden hardware" in the profiles. I opened up the PC and swapped the ribbon cables around and rebooted. It started to install new hardware and stated it had installed it because i seen the name of the installed hardware (The F drive) yet it was still not listed in "My Computer" alongside the C drive. I then removed it an placed in in an external caddie and booted again. I got the same install message ( I had uninstalled the driver prior just in case) and it installed from the caddie and works.
I can not run it from there because i have two other drives that need to be listed for my Music Studio when it scans for files needed to open past and present work that uses files located on those drives my name. The issue can not be the cables as they both run C drive internally.
I will try again later to install it from inside the PC as my main slave drive but it seems null. The issue may be software based or configuration based. But so far , i am mystified by this issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

My X220 doesn't seem to detect headphones properly.  Sound comes out of them instead of the internal speakers, but the audio mixer still shows the device connected as "speakers."  My old laptop could detect when headphones are plugged in and kept separate volume levels for headphones vs internal speakers, should the X220 be able to do this? I'm running Windows 7 on an i5-2520M with 8GB RAM.

Answer:X220 Headphone Detection issue

Actually this made me curious, so I checked out my X220, and indeed it worked like you described. However, I found a way to change that to provide the effect you're looking for. In Control Panel, click the Smart Audio icon. This will bring up the Smart Audio panel. Click Audio Director, one of the bottom icons. This brings up two choices, Classic & Multi-Stream. Changing to Multi-Stream recognizes the headphones when plugged in, and indeed maintains a different volume level. Hope that works for you!

Error messages have been popping up for a while now saying how I am low on memory, but until now there have been no serious consequences. Now, I can only watch 1 YouTube video at a time and even then, it will usually crash after about 5 minutes. I can't have more than 1 tab open and in general the laptop is slower. It looks like the computer is only able to use 2GB of the 8GB that it knows is installed for some reason. Should I open it up and try to unplug and re plug the RAM back in? I've used CCleaner to clear anything that might be taking up memory and nothing is working. I've also done a full scan with Malwarebytes and come up with nothing. Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure what MOBO I have, but the laptop model is: Acer Aspire V5-573-9863

In addition to this memory issue, I used to have a problem where the CPU would sit at 60%-80% usage for no reason with no applications running, but that issue seems to have sorted itself out. Thought I might mention it just in case it is related. I just remembered that the CPU usage only jumps and sits when I open the Downloads folder in windows explorer, and I can fix it by restarting the Windows Explorer process, but if anyone has any tips on how to deal with that as well, I would appreciate it.

x220tWindows 7 Professional I just got a new motherboard, and now my Thinkpad will does not detect headphones.  When I plug headphones in the jack, no sound comes through the headphones, and sound continues to stream through the built-in speakers. Things I've tried:- I updated the drivers and the problem persists- I checked the SmartAudio settings, including toggling between the classic and multi-stream modes.- I opened the box to check the obvious connections -- nothing obvious appears to be disconnected, but I'm not an expert, so I wouldn't know how to check soldering or the like. Other notes:- There is a USB port next to the headphone jack, which works fine.  - When I plug in the headphones, I can hear the static sound that results from a cable making it's connection.  This tells me that there is power going to the headphone pins.- I've tried both regular 1/8 in XLR stereo headphones and the kind with a built-in microphone, with the same results each time. At this point, I think it is probably a hardware issue, but I really don't want to put my work machine back in the shop again, so if anyone has an idea, I would love to hear it. Thanks!Scott

Good day,

I have an unusual situation with my HDMI and would like some advice or ideas.

I have 2 TVs with HDMI input, both LG (I believe 32LH20R and 22LH20R).

When I connect my hdmi to 22lh20r, the sound device says "not connected".
When I connect to 32lh20r, everything works fine.
If I connect to 22lh20r after connecting to 32lh20r, the sound device is now detected!
But when I reset my computer, the sound from 22lh20r says "not connected" again.

I tested two notebooks on it so far, and could reproduce on both. One with a GeForce 9600M GT and the other with a GeForce GT 540M.

I think that this could be some issue with the TV, but since it work after connecting to the other TV, I was thinking if there is a way to force the detection, or to force the driver from one TV to the other, or something like that.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Issue with HDMI sound detection - unusual situation

Additional information:

I tryed to override EDID, with phoenix edid editor and monitor asset manager, but had no success with that. Turns out that they only collect the first 128 bytes from the edid, leaving the CEA extensions out, and this would be where the EDID stores whether the monitor has audio or not. =/

Also, it seems like it's not possible to "force" the playback device to "be detected", or at least I didn't find a way so far.

If anyone could help with EDID overriding, or this way to trick windows into believing HDMI sound is connected, I would appreciate a lot!

I got a problem with the Internet Explorer 11 installation I received through Windows Update. It is on a
Windows 7 x64 SP1 computer.
The installation failed, and Internet Explorer 11 doesn't appear under the Show Installed Updates section of Programs and Features.
Because of that, Windows Update tries to re-run the update, but keeps failing everytime.
My first idea was to download the IE 11 installer for Windows 7 x64 from Download Center and launch it; it fails with the error message "A more recent version of Internet Explorer is already installed".
When launching IE, effectively, the version is 11.0, but if I try to install an update for IE, like an IE 11 language pack or just a security update, it fails saying it doesn't apply to this system.
So basically, the IE installer detection logic says IE 11 is installed, while Windows Update says it is not, as for other updates related to IE 11. I have a tendency to believe Windows Update since it doesn't appear in Show Installed Updates.
I tried removing the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer registry key and its equivalent under SYSWOW64, no result. I also deleted the iexplore.exe file under Program Files\Internet Explorer and Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer, no result. Removing
those files is not easy since you have to take ownership on each of them because of the default permissions that are very tight.
Does someone knows the detection logic of the IE 11 ... Read more

I got the dreaded 2100 error a few days ago on my X230 with a Samsung SSD.While I managed to solve it in a somewhat unexpected way, I wanted to document the process here as I am almost certain it was the result of a bug in the laptop firmware/BIOS. If any Lenovo representatives are reading along I'd appreciate your comments.Long story short: Power on laptop, observe 2100 error. Reboot, press Enter to interrupt start-up, then F12 to select boot device. Hard drive appears in list, despite it not being detected a few seconds earlier. Sigh of relief. Select hard drive, boot up. Problem solved.Details: System configuration is X230 ThinkPad (BIOS version 2.57) with a Samsung 840 EVO SSD (model MZ-7TE1T0BW), Windows 8.1. Before someone points it out, I am aware there's a BIOS version 2.58 available, but from the readme file it doesn't appear to have any fixes for this. The trouble started when I had just powered on the laptop from stand-by, and was setting up a WiDi connection to my TV. The laptop froze hard - no activity whatsoever, couldn't move the mouse pointer, no response to Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Kept the power button pressed until the laptop switched off. Then got a "2100: Detection error on HDD0" message when I tried to boot it again. My first concern was trying to salvage as much data as possible, so I removed the SSD and connected it to a different machine using a SATA-USB adapter. The SSD appeared to be in perfect condition, and I was able to copy all of my data off of it.Popped... Read more

I have a big problem. Today I used CCleaner and it deleted about files and folders of 250MB. After this operation, My OS could not detect my CPU, RAM and security programs. For example, when I right click on Computer, it says Processor: does not exist, RAM: does not exist. Also when I open security center, it says no firewall, no vir?s program found. And also, system information tool of vista does not work. It says some files were moved or they are missing. I tried to restore backup but I could not. Now, how can I repair my vista or correct these problems?

Answer:Vista Detection Problems

I solved one of the problems. Now Vista detects my hardware. I used a batch file that I found via google. I typed the following text to a text file. And saved as FIXWMI.CMD Then I runned the batch file and it solved.

@echo on
cd /d c:\temp
if not exist %windir%\system32\wbem goto TryInstall
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
net stop winmgmt
winmgmt /kill
if exist Rep_bak rd Rep_bak /s /q
rename Repository Rep_bak
for %%i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %%i
for %%i in (*.exe) do call :FixSrv %%i
for %%i in (*.mof,*.mfl) do Mofcomp %%i
net start winmgmt
goto End

if /I (%1) == (wbemcntl.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemtest.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (mofcomp.exe) goto SkipSrv
%1 /RegServer

goto End

if not exist wmicore.exe goto End
wmicore /s
net start winmgmt

Now the only problem is security programs. I will try to reinstall all programs. I hope I will solve this problem also.

I've got a really strange problem, that makes it really difficult to post any diagnostic information about the problem. I've tried running HiJackThis, MalwareBytes anti-malware, Trendnet housecall online scanner, GMER, ad-aware, Spybot S&D, RootRepeal and dds.scr. The results are pretty much the same for all of these programs. The scan/analysis starts, sometimes it gets partway through scanning, and then the application window gets closed. After this happens, in the case of .exe files, the resulting program is rendered useless, in that further attempts to launch it result in a "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." and you also cannot rename, or delete the file.

Trend-net housecall is also pretty interesting, in that it runs inside the browser, and after it was terminated (part way through the scan) iexplore.exe now exhibits the same error in not being able to launch. This not being able to launch persists across reboots also. I then installed firefox.exe on the system, was using it for a brief period, tried trend-net housecall and now it too is showing the error in not being able to launch.

dds.scr is able to be to be re-launched, and it brings up the black command window type screen, but never brings up the notepad windows. It seems unaffected by the termination behaviour, and is able to be re-launched.

I was able to run A2 anti-trojan, and do have a log of what it... Read more

My laptop is T430 of Lenovo. I have two drives installed on my computer, one is SSD (128 G, PLEXTOR), another is HDD (500 G, Samsung). Now I have encountered a serious issue that I could not find the HDD in my Windows 10. Almost two weeks ago, I found my laptop crash frequently. I think there is an extreme incompatibility between the Windows 10 and SSD. I even reinstalled my OS for several times. But it still crashed. Even I opened a simple word file, it does not respond. Two days ago, the issue got even more serious. When I boot my system, I found a problem with "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". It suggests me to press the "ESC" button to enter into the OS. However, I could not find my HDD on my computer anymore. I have some paramount important data and files in this drive.  Could some friends provide some meaningful suggestions of recovering data and files for me, please?  I'm very anxious. Thank you very much!

Hello, I got two issue that remains unsolved, i'd like to know if anyone else here are having them. First one, wlan : It sometimes (doesn't seems to depend on what i do/the time at all) loose connection repeatedly (might be 3 times, once every minutes or so..) But Windows doesn't realize immediately... Sounds weird, eh? It takes 2minutes AT LEAST before it renew the connection... That's why (until problem's solved) i just turn on/off wlan by myself and connection comes back immediately... for few minutes! Second issue is less terrible : Sometimes Power Manager shows up the AC Adapter was removed and goes on battery mode. This last for ~10seconds, then it "redetect" AC Adapter. Needless to say i never removed the AC Adapter at that time. Any ideas?

Hi there ddong,
First off, what model do you have? Secondly, are you experiencing any connectivity problems with any other devices while this is happening on this computer?
Thirdly, do you have the latest version of Power Manager?
Best regards,

I have a really weird problem with Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition.

I had XP installed and i just inserted the vista dvd, rebooted the system and installed the new OS on a separate partition on my RAID1 array (the array has 3 partitions XP, Vista, Games). And everything worked like a dream, i didnt have a single problem with drivers or detection of the array. And then i noticed, Vista didnt see the 3 extra SATA2 drives i had.

So to fix that problem i thought maybe Nvidias new raid/storage drivers would help (ASUS Striker mobo). I installed them, with the nvidia storage manager, and when i rebooted the nvidia software announced that it had found 3 new hdd. But when i tried to get them to work, the nvidia software only gave me a choice to create a new array out of these discs. Well i didnt want to because all my data is on those drives.

So thats where it ended, i see the drives in nvidia hdd manager but cant initialize them without creating a new array. And vista still shows nothing, in device manager and in disk management.

Had a problem with 1 of our laptops and had to do a complete restore, when it all came back to running I can't get an internet connection. If I go to the wireless connection my network is listed but after inputting keyword phrase it can't connect. If I go to "set up a connection" > "set up a wireless router" Windows does not detect any wireless network hardware.
I can connect if I plug in the ethernet cable directly and this laptop was connecting perfectly to this router before the crash and restore.

Recently I downloaded Windows 7 SP1 x32/x64 ISO and I want to make bootabale pendrive. The whole file size is 3.8GB on disk and can't fit in my 4GB pendrive which is actually just around 3.6GB in capacity. I need around 123MB more free space. Is there any file that I can remove from Windows 7 installation like unimportant updates that I can download it later?

Honestly, you'd spend less time and have less aggravation if you just bought a bigger flash drive. The only way to remove files that you consider unnecessary is to use a tool like nLite.

I am having difficulty with my ASUS SDRW-08D1S-U external optical drive. My computer is an ASUS UL30A notebook with Windows 7. The strange thing is that it was working initially, but now a few days later, it stopped working for some reason. If I go to My Computer, I can see my harddrives (C and D) listed, but not my optical drive. If I go to Control Panel, and click on Devices and Printers, I see my optical drive listed under Devices as SDRW-08D1S-U, with a small yellow triangle icon with an exclamation point on it. If I double click on it, and then click on the Hardware tab, it states at the bottom – “Device Status: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.” If I click on the Properties button, it basically says the same thing, with the addition of: (Code 39). I have tried updating the driver, and it states that I have the appropriate and latest driver. I have tried disabling and enabling driver. I have tried right clicking on the icon and Troubleshooting.

Finally, I tried uninstalling the driver. And then when I plugged the drive back in, it states that the “Device driver software was not successfully installed.”

I am using the supplied USB Y cable with both ends plugged in. I have tried it also with only one of the two ends plugged in, and also with regular non-Y configuration USB cables.

I will add that I never installed the original software on the CD that came with the drive. I was about to install it when ... Read more

I don't really know if my post is in the right forum section, but here is the idea.
Since I installed windows 7 on my new laptop, a MSI Ex625, I encountered some problems.

- I have some buttons, one of them is used to choose the alimentation mode of the laptop. An other button used to put my laptop on the "cinema pro" mode which activates my subwoofer and improves the video quality.

- I can't install Quicktime anymore and use iTunes (but it is another problem).

So, I contacted the MSI support and they told me to install the drivers for my laptop from their original website. That operation done, nothing changed. So they asked me to make an upgrade of my BIOS.

The fact is that I never performed that before and I am still looking on how to boot from a pen drive in order to install the new version of the bios. Would anyone know how to make a bootable pendrive for win 7?

Any help is welcome.
Thank you for watching

I have one Sandisk USB 2 OTG pendrive which can work on mobile and PC/Laptop. When I plug into the port the message pops up as sd/mmc card.
I have recently burned on it one iso with Rufus 2.4 with multi bootable OS of 7, 8.1 and 10 bootable. I have enabled usb as the first bootable device into bios but it does not boot on my laptop. The message that i got is "efi usb device (generic sd/mmc) has been blocked by the current security policy".I have burned the usb using GPT as partitioning scheme with Uefi enabled. Hence security should not have been the cause.
Could it be that the usb device is sd/mmc and not actual pendrive. I have purchased it as USB OTG pendrive from amazon. Capacity is 16 gb.
Could it be possible that because od SD/MMC drive -it does not support booting.
Please advice me what is wrong with my device or anything else.

Answer:Pendrive does not boot on my Lenovo Laptop with windows 10

It probably is because the OTG drive is being recognized as SD/MMC - most computers will not boot from SD/MMC. I would use a regular USB flash drive.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I can't open html files stored on an external pendrive. The files are the originals of a website. Other sorts of files don't seem to be affected
The online versions of the web pages work fine, and copies made from the pendrive to my hard drive will open fine too.
But if I click on the originals on the pendrive I just get a blank browser window (Edge) or my usual homepage (Chrome).
I've tested this with two different pendrives to see if the pendrive could have developed a fault, but with the same result, no webpage, just a blank browser window or my usual homepage.
I've tested the pendrives on a non-windows 10 computer, on which they work fine - clicking the icon opens the file in my usual browser.
Is there something obvious I'm missing? Any suggestions welcome!

I have a pendrive partitioned in two, which I did on my Mac in Disk Utility. The first partition is a linux bootable install pen formatted to FAT, the second is a data partition, also FAT. Interesting OS situation, I know.

Under Linux or Mac OS X this set-up works perfectly, however in Windows (every version) it will only read the first partition, which is no good seeing as unless I'm rebooting into it I don't need it.

The format has to be FAT as Mac OS X doesn't support NTFS without 3rd party add-on's and Windows can't read HFS (and I don't think EXT) by default. I need to change something on the drive as most of the Windows machines I use aren't mine to install stuff on.

I think the problem could most probably be solved by changing the partition order but I don't really want to do this since I have no idea if the Linux installer will boot if it isn't on the primary partition. Is there anything else I can do to make windows recognise the second partition, instead of or in addition to the first?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Windows doesn't recognise partitioned pendrive

Run disk check

Vista will not read flash drives using FAT

The interactive services dialog detection window keeps popping up every few minutes saying that a program can't display a message on my desktop.

I clicked the "Show program details" arrow and the "program path" is c:\temp\svchost.exe"

When I click "Show me the message", it takes me to a blank screen with another window saying "Item Not Found".

Hi guys,
My new laptop Lenovo G50-80 with free DOS and I wanted to install Windows 7 Pro 64bit by using USB pendrive. I can boot this pendrive

And I can't found the pendrive drive if I browse it.

Hi Guys
I'm running Windows 7, and I want to move stuff from my Pendrive over to my desktop but Windows 7 is moaning that some of the folder names are too long, yet I never had this issue in XP.
Is there a way around this?

Answer:Move Data from Pendrive To Desktop Path To Long Windows 7

Windows 7 supports up to 244 characters total folders path file name. more info ClickHere
It may be that you are trying to move files to another folder path that then takes the total over the limit. example C:\Users\user name\Documents\ takes up 29 before you even start.

Hey, i just got a new pc which had windows vista home premium installed, and i wanted to install one of my games to see how my new PC performs.

I went to install one of my old games 'Lord of the rings: battle for middle earth two' and evrything went fine and game works and runs like normal.

However when i try to play online, it requires me to download a patch, and when i try to download the patch i get an error telling me i need administrator uses.

I then logged on the the administrator account and downloaded the patches fine and i am able to play the game online.

The problem occurs now that i am only able to play on the administrator account, and not my own account which is labeled as 'admin'

On my normal accout i am asked to download the patch again, which i cannot do because i need to be on the admin account, so i am kinda stuck on how to play the game on my normal account.

does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:Issue with windows vista (i think)

Log in as non-admin, right click app/game, and choose "Run as Administrator.

Techie guys, any chance of any help please?

I have an issue were if you have Windows Vista on a pc, acting as a Server, or using Vista Business as a server, if you log into our program on that server, it doesnt allow ANY workstations to log in - says the network path is unavailable.

If you log the workstation in first, then log the server onto the program, it works fine.

This though, causes another problem.

You can only log 1 or 2 computers into our software with Vista acting as a server.

This also seems to affect Microsoft Access databases.

Anyone ever come across this or know what may be the cause?

Well one morning I woke up to find my laptop was frozen. So I turned it off and turned it back on. From then on it would just keep freezing up. At different points though, not always at one specific point. Sometimes right when I logged in, or other times about 15 minutes after me using it. There were no viruses and I don't torrent things. I even scanned all my files and they're clean.

So I had my dad check it out and he just reformatted my drive and reinstalled Windows and put on Ubuntu. He gave it back and everything worked for a few days. I put some of my old stuff back on and now it's freezing up again.

I think a file I have is corrupted, because it happened right when I was listening to one of my songs. I was using iTunes to listen to it, if it matters/helps. Now though it freezes up randomly. So bad to the point I log in and then it's frozen.

Ubuntu has no issues though, and none of my files are on Ubuntu (which is what I am currently using. It's dual booted onto my laptop.). I plan on deleting all of my things and collecting all my music over again from scratch, but I want to know, is there anything I can use to fix my laptop? It's over 80 gigs of music and I don't want to lose it. I've been collecting for four years.

Thank you all so much. If you need to know anything else, please tell me, though I'm pretty stupid when it comes to computers.

Answer:Windows Vista issue.

Hey guys,

I recently reinstalled Windows Vista 32bit onto my pc and have an old Palm m505 which i connect to the computer via a USB docking station.
I have also recently switched from a 250gb IDE HD to a 300gb SATA drive.
Whilst everything else seems to be going smoothly i get this strange USB sound when i try to connect the Palm m505 dock to the computer.
Instead of the usual kind of DA-DUM noise when a device is connected, it makes this other sound consisting of 3 quick sounds like din din din, very quickly.
I have tried looking this up on the internet but have thus far been unable to find any info. Off the top of my head i would guess its some kind of power management issue, but this only occurs with the palm m505 dock and not with any other devices.
I have tried removing my USB mouse and keyboard and connecting the palm as the only usb device but the problem persists.
I have also tried this in all 6 USB slots ( 2 front and 4 back ) and get the same result every time.
Can anyone give any indication as to why this is happening now?
Perhaps i need to install SP1?
Thanks in advance,

Answer:Windows Vista 32 bit (w/o SP1) USB Issue

Sorry to bother everyone, solved the problem.
For anyone else having this issue, the palm can only be detected by windows when it is attempting a hotsync, at this time u can update the driver in device manager.
Direct the driver update to search c:\windows\system32 and it should find the relevant driver.
This will allow u to connect the palm correctly and complete a hotsync :)

Get yourself a copy of CCleaner. Run that. The temp files are still on there. That could be what is taking up the space.

I have a emachine T5082, I know its a piece of garbage, but I upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. Until recently I had no issues with it, but in the last 2 weeks I've been having issues with the game Rome Total War, and Halo 2.

These games ran great until recently, but now when I go to start the application it tells me I don't have administrator privlages (sp), and to log in.

I am the only user of the computer and nothing I've tried helps. Ideas?

Hi everyone,

I'm running Vista Home Premium (32-bit) which I've had for about a month and a half now, and the only major problem that's been plaguing me is one which I've found no documentation on so far, so it may be fairly unique.

Anyways, every time my monitor goes to stand-by or it is turned off, when I turn it back on, about 7 times out of 10 windows explorer becomes all screwed up and I have to end the process and then start it over again. As you might imagine, this is extremely cumbersome and I'd like to get it figured out. When I say win explorer craps out, I mean the task bar gets all misaligned, the start menu doesn't really work, and any explorer pages (Control Panel, My Documents, etc.) don't display any graphics at all.

I assume the way to fix this is going to be a Windows update, but I'm as up to date as can be as far as I know. Anyone know otherwise, or have any further ideas on how I can fix this issue?

My specs are on the left if you need. The problem is that startup has become intolerably slow. The problem is not that there are too many programs starting up as i have trimmed them down in msconfig, the problem is that the programs that SHOULD startup are not being executed quickly enough. When the computer starts up, i can open task manager easily enough and i can see that there are large gaps (2-3mins sometime) when the CPU is at 2-3% load - I cannot open e.g. Chrome whilst this is going on as it acts as if the CPU is running at full load. Can anyone suggest a possible cause a solution for my problem - Any replies very welcomeThank youBoo

Hey there,

My friend on his vista home premium had borowed an image of windows 7 beta - i think and used this (just mounted it on virtual drive) and installed - took about 2 1/2 hours.

All seemingly went well, although I was told you cant update the beta version?? anymore if at all - I have no idea on this part as his p.c isnt online...

The issue seemingly is that under the windows 7 install there are no files listed under the all programs. if one right clicks on the all programs one can find program files but the link? to these has an issue. I did a quick search and a suggestion was to create a new profile... however this didnt work.

I am unsure how to recreate the link? to the program files in win7 any ideas people??:confused was the first time I had seen Win7:cool
I thought I might be able to find the target - go to the All programs and paste the programs path as a target as a "start in" for the "All programs" in win7 but the somewhat unfamiliar menu, and stunning lack of knowledge with win7 and vista didnt help..:cry.

Thanks in advance for any helpful pointers.:wave

Answer:Windows vista to Win 7 upgrade issue

there's an issue, at least for me in the RC for win 7, that has a limit of 75 (i think that's the number) shortcuts in the all programs window. You have to open the folder options and select the option to show hidden files and folders. If you go to
C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu and try to organize some of the short cuts. I'm about to install the full version of windows 7 in a few days (the RC is expiring March 1st) and I hope this was fixed.

keep in mind, some shortcuts can also be in other places, but that is the most common.

Hey, Tech Support Forums!
I came here as reccomended by a friend from as we encountered some problems on my computer after cleaning up some Malwares.
Okay, I dont know really what to include in my post so I'll just start by stating my problems and then putting up a screenshot of it.

Just a note, that I am an administrator on my computer.

So, here are the problems:
1.) The network button on my taskbar is showing an "unkown status," it says that acces is denied.

2.) It will not let me click on items with the security button on it. What it does sometimes is just flash a window and then it disappears.

3.) It will not let me perform any updates.

4.) It will not let me enable or disable Windows Defender.

EDIT #1:
5.) I dont know if this is with the security issue also, but it will not let me use my messenger.

Those are the problems i found so far. I will let you know if i find any more.

The only way I can log onto any of these desk icons is by right clicking and clicking "Run as Administrator". This is getting very old )

First things first let me say hello all, this is my first post on this site.

Now to business. I am having issues with boot-up on my partners Windows Vista Laptop. During boot it will imply there are issues with the Windows Boot files. Have attempted Startup Repair and a complete Restore (both failed to complete) and have also tried fixing with the original installation disk, which again failed

Can anybody suggest a fix, that will work

I am a computer lover and a self taught engineer, but this has me slightly stumped!

A huge thanks in advance to anybody who is willing to offer me any advice and potentially a fix for the issue.

Answer:Windows Vista Boot Issue

Welcome to TSF, are there any error messages or blue screens? Seeing how you attempted to restore the system, the hard drive maybe failing.

Go to the Hard Drive Mfg's website download, and burn to a CD the diagnostics software then boot from the CD. Also what are the Specs of the laptop.
