I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have disk with 32 bit system recovery but my x64 partition got deleted.

I cant order recovery x64 becouse my laptop is too old and they dont have this in offer.

Maybe Toshiba Support have my version of system/ or drivers alone in archive and they can send me it ?
I would be happy with drivers alone for x64 becouse there are just few of them on website.

I was wondering if someone can recommend to me how I repair the Lan connection in my Toshiba L505 Laptop. Windows kept shutting down suddenly and my laptop was feeling warmer than usual, so i thought the fan needs to be cleaned. I went in and I was able to remove the keyboard and lifted the area underneath the keyboard high enough to use an air spray to clean the fan. It seemed to work. but when I turned on the machine, i noticed there was no internet connection. I went into the device manager and there were yellow highlights on all the items related to the Lan and wiredless connections. I had the laptop confiqured wirelessly. the machine could not detect any wireless connections. I also connected the laptop directly with a wired connection and it did not work either. I obviously disconnect something or permantely damaged it.

I was looking for a service manual for the laptop but couldnt not find one online. Does anyone know where I can find something that visually shows me where the connections are and what they look like. I can try to reconnect this way.
Many thanks

Am very worried about this. what should i do?Please help me out. Thank you.

Answer:I have toshiba satellite L505 laptop. It is 8 years old.

If the system is running and the LCD is showing progress when you light it up then the monitor or its contact to the cable or cable itself is bad and your back light (LED) is quitting on you. You can try the almost closing the laptop to see if it lights up again which would indicate a bad cable at the hinge. You can open the laptop (or get service) to see if the ribbon cable is properly seated at the motherboard and behind the monitor. If neither then the monitor may be bad.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

But i decided to set up win 7 ultimate CD .. but i didnt like it
Then i want now to set up the the original win 7 home recovery with all toshiba software using F8 is not helpful bcoz after installing the win 7 ultimate CD .. F8 is not showing Toshiba recovery wizard in the list.

The recovery partition [ 10 GB ] isnt damaged or formatted or empty

Toshiba satalite l505 freezes up on factory restore?
I'm trying to do a factory restore on my friends laptop. The internal hd restore would freeze up during the 3rd or 4th configuration system screen. So I ordered some disks and did a format on the hard drive and did another factory restore with the disks. It still freezes up at the same spot. Even after leaving it all night while I sleep.

Ever time (tons of times both with the internal restore and disks) it freezes up at the same spot. When you restart the pc it goes into the login screen and only shows admin available with no usable password and can't get into it saying that the user isn't set up or the sort. Forgot exactly what it said.

I thought it might be the hard drive so ordered a new one. Still freezes at the same spot.

Please if you know how to fix this tell me. I called customer support and all they want to do is order another disk. But I doubt the new disk they sent me and the internal hard drive would both freeze at the same place if it was the disk.

I've also tried searching the net and so far no solutions. just more people complaining about it doing it to them also. I know there's gotta be a solution somewhere.

Answer:Toshiba satalite l505 freezes up on factory restore?

What is the reason for the restore? The original problem is often the same reason restoring won't work. You may well have a hardware problem.

Are you sure the disks you are using are for that exact model of machine?

Are there any known or past problems with the optical drive that could make reading the disks a problem?

Is memory OK?

How did you "format" the drive? Formatting a drive before installation has not been needed in Windows since 2000. Most formatting tools would create incorrect partition or file system types (formatting is technically only for file systems, but some tools also partition). It wouldn't be a bad idea to delete the partitions and install to an empty drive.

When the machine boots to windows I have no keyboard or touch pad. I have keyboard function at post long enough for me to hit f2 and get to the CMOS settings, after that I lose keyboard, except for using the function key and f4 to change monitors,

On boot up I can turn number lock on and then nothing again. I have tried resetting the CMOS, o have tried pulling all the cards like wireless and modem, tried different sticks of ram and even pulling the hard drive. If you have any thoughts or have seen this before please clue me in,

Hello folks,

my name is lynn. I have been told on a different forum that my laptop does not have bluetooth on it. So, i went and bought a bluetooth adaptor made by targis. It is a usb device. I have it installed with all drivers. I have a bluetooth iblue 737a+ gps receiver; again, all drivers installed on my laptop for it. For some unknown reason, my computer sees the bluetooth adaptor, but refuses to see the bluetooth GPS receiver. I have had it up at Office depot all morning since i bought the adaptor there, but they could not figure out the problem either. The receiver can be seen when connected via a usb mini cable, but the program i wish to use it with, microsoft streets and trips, requires i use it with bluetooth and not a cable. The adaptor doesn?t see my Windows Mobile phone either. I know the GPS and phone are working properly and fully charged because they see each other and I can use my GPS program on my phone with no problem. . I am out of options and/or ideas. Can anyone suggest anything else i should try? I do have an account on msn and would be happy to voice or video chatg there if someone needs to explain something lengthy to me. Oh, and i am blind so use a screen reader to operate my windows 7 lalptop, but that should not have any bearing on figuring this confounded thign out!! :)

thanks, lynn w.

I have formatted about 6 times. I changed a setting in msconfig to make my startup faster, but I accidentally checked a box that the guy didnt check on the tutorial.

This is what I did that caused all of these problems.

I accidentally checked the box that said "Maximum Memory."
Thats when all this crap started happening.
Ever since then, Everytime I start my pc I get this error.

mem.png picture by AlmostArtafact - Photobucket

I have formatted tons of times and the error is still there.
Also it jacked up something in my ram. I cant have like skype and msn open at the same time, photoshop and msn, vmware open at all, anything like that. My screen resolution will go from the highest (1920x1200 for a tv which is what I use) to like 480x whatever. My pc is super unstable now. Chrome crashes atleast 10 times a day.

A guy had me turn the pc off, take out the ram, turn it back on and wait for an error. Then turn it off, put the ram back in and see what happens. This actually worked, he said it flushes something or something idk. But it worked and I could have vmware, skype, msn and ,photoshop open all at the same time and it wouldnt crash lol. But anyway, after I restart my PC or it goes to sleep, same crap happens again, crash after crash :\.

Also, I have pretty much nothing the startup and when I turn my pc on, it idles out at about 3/4 memory usage.

I have tried resetting my bios, and formatting.

Anything else you suggest, like a super format 3000 or somethi... Read more

Does anyone know how to retrieve restore points??

i went to do it the other day after my son had been messing and it had no points at all...only that day :O(

Any fixes at all??

Many thanks

Answer:restor points have dissapeared!!

Hello Elsa

I`m afraid there is no way to get the Restore Points back. He must have turned System Restore off and then on again. Or maybe he ran Disk Cleanup and removed all but the most recent Point.

Do you need older Restore Points? If the computer is running OK just now the Restore Point you do have should be enough.

Just check that System Restore is actually running so it can make future Points.

I was wondering if I could do the system restore but yet keep only a few programs that were added by the user. Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Sounds like you mean system recovery.

The short answer is, no, not unless the OEM has built in such a feature into its recovery process.

With the retail media, its a definite no.

I think our home computer got a virus so my dad tried to fix it by running the system recovery. It went through all the steps fine, asked if I wanted to restart or shut down. Chose to restart the computer, a blue screen came out asking me basics like the time zone and if I wanted to name the computer and so on. once everything was done it went into the Windows Black Welcome screen and below it it said please wait. I waited 8 HOURS and nothing. It just froze there. We turned it off and tried turning it on again but it only stated that the System Restore is not complete and there is no where to go from there. I believe it restarts on its own but freezes after.

I have no idea what to do. Is the computer a lost cause or can it be fixed? Thanks.

so im using the back up feature right now and backing up all those files to E:
since my computer has a built in section of the hard drive just for restoring to factory settings, vs. a bunch of discs, will it still wipe the hard drive and eliminate any errors/viruses/worms ? also, will I be able to recover my pictures and music and things
these are very important , especially the music
but im worried that because i will be wiping everything when i restore, it will wipe out the backup files that im creating...? am I stupid?

Answer:backup and restor center

Depeding on your manufacturer there is no way to answer this with a definate yes or no. Each company does their Recovery Partitions different and how they restore data is done differently. You will have to go to the Dell, HP, Compaq or which ever site to find out from them how the Recovery Partition works. I know my Dell would overwrite everything and not restore the backup data that i just did.

This happen to me only once. As i had made a seperate backup to another location.

İ have never had to restore a system image, that i create with W.7's own utility and store on an ext.hard drive,so my question is this:

İf i were to restore a system image, would the internet connection ALSO BE re-established as it was during the creation of the system image ??

İn other words the system would be restored as to how it was,at the time the image was taken.Does this also apply to the internet connection that existed at the time,

OR would i have to do it myself manually??

Thank you.

Answer:Questİon re restorİng system İmage

It will take all your settings back to exactly like you had them when you made the image. So if you've changed isp's since then you'll probably have to set up a connection manually.

My wife got up this morning and Windows 10 was installing on her Win 8 machine, no one requested this. she canceled install and it showed a screen that said it would restore but didn't happen. I made a recovery disk when I got the machine, I can get to the advanced menu but it comes up with something like "your drive is locked, unlock and try again (something like this) I pulled the hard drive and am doing full back up to my Seagate Free Agent drive.
I am also making a new restore usb from my daughters Win 8 machine.
I really didn't need another project this week so any help/direction will be greatly appreciated.

I have been discussing with a few techs here locally and doing some research online.  What I have come across is that to do virus/malware removal can take up alot of time.  If a customer brought you a heavily infected pc what route would you take and please explain why so I might have some light shed on the subject.

Answer:Malware/Virus removal vs factory restor/new os install

sorry posted this twice.  can an admin delete this one or can I do it?

So my computer froze last night, first time with win7. I had to hit the reset switch on the computer and when it came back to, it had no cookies saved from anything, this was on IE8. Is this normal on win 7? I didnt have this problem on XP and IE 6.

Virus scan found nothing so I know its not that.

Also, I went to system restore the thing and it hasnt automatically saved any restore points. How do I make it auto restore points daily like XP was doing for me? Thanks!

Answer:IE 8 lost all cookies when comp froze, normal? Restor Q

Yes reset will send you back to default, everything else will be gone.

System restore schedule is set from task scheduler. Type that phase in search. Then when in task scheduler, expand the tree in the left pane until you see system restore. Make sure that it is on and set for the schedule that pleases you. If you need additional help, just post.

I am scratching my head since last evening. When I attempted to windows system from a previous date, it fails to restore all the time, showing error message something like 0xc0000020 or something

I researched in the net and followed all of the following advise:

1) do scan check. I have done that both on the normal and safe mode. scfdetails delivered the following damaged files. When I try to identify these files in the installation DVD which came along the computer (Dell Latitude), I couldn't trace any file with *.json extension. In the DVD, I looked at sources\Install.wim\3

Answer:System restor fail, json files damaged. How serious is & what to do?

1- Those 2 files are not actually corrupt, this is a known issue. You can just disregard or uninstall KB3022345 and KB3068708 (and hide them next time offered).

2- No idea if I even understand what you mean

3- When you get to the "Install Now" screen, there should be a link in lower left "repair your computer", click that one

4- The option for repair in F8 menu is not always there as I have heard. You can use installation DVD/USB or a repair disk (CD/DVD or USB) for your bit version of Windows.

** If you don't have backups of your files, anything on C will probably be formatted if you install over it. **

I will let experienced people lead you with your original issue.

basically my computer is pretty screwed, but after trying for 2 days it seems pretty un fixable too.. got any ideas what to do?

Answer:Many windows aplications will not work, aero, update, restor etc...

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

1. Type Services.msc in Start Menu search box, hit Enter.
2. Make sure that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is Running and set on Automatic.
3. If the Status of System Restore Service is not Started, Start it. Also set it on Automatic if it is not.
4. restart your computer.
Now try to do a system restore

Also, run System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to make sure system files are intact and to replace the file. Follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:

I am planning to get 2 new computers running Windows 7. I want to do everything right now to prepare for inevitable times when things go wrong.

There are several products on the market both free and paid-for that will take a system image and restore it. Win 7 itself has a built in system image function but I believe it’s pretty ordinary and extremely slow at backing up.

That’s not to say I want an extraordinarily complicated-feature product either.

I just want something that will backup my entire disc including operating system, MBR etc without me having to tell it what is what to the nth degree (i.e. as straight-forward user friendly as possible), that doesn’t need me to go fiddling around changing partition sizes or drive letter names etc etc….

However I do have a question to do with partitions and restoring. Let’s say you had a 500GB drive with 150Gb date on it and backed it up. You get a new drive that is 400GB. (unlikely I know but for the purpose of the exercise…)…will there be a problem putting back the 150Gb data from the 500Gb image because the new drive is only 400Gb? Is this sort of thing not possible, or possible but only with changing settings of partitions in the restore process? And I presume the answer to this is also dependent upon the software used? Same scenario, but restoring to a larger drive? That’s only about as complicated as I think I could get with having to fiddle with partitions.

I want to store this on a USB external drive rather th... Read more

Trying to solve a problem that has just came up in the last few days. When opening a link from an email in Windows Live Mail in Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit, firefox now opens the link behind WLM, it didn't do this a few days ago.

Tried a system restore but that gets stuck at "Initialising Restore" on a blue screen with the rotating dots and I have to do a hard reset. This reboots the machine back to the logon screen and when I log on I get a message System Restore has not completed, choose another restore date. I did this and it still gets stuck at initialising restore.

So how can I fix these problems?

My OS: Windows 10 Home
I believe that it all started with the installment of a possibly dodgy security suite "Akick". I had just done a fresh windows install a few days before it running only the built in Microsoft Security before it.
I felt something was not right about it and it stayed on my PC (Acer E1-532P) for 3 days or so. On reboot it always told me that my computer was protected. This message coming quite late after Windows started made me suspicious and on the final time it didn't load at all forcing me to be smart and uninstall it.
Anyhow. my problem was that I suddenly noticed that no USB flash drive was being read. I can hear the Windows sound of something being installed but no drive letter appeared. I tried different slots both internal and external and nothing. I also tried other USB flash drives and still nothing. A net search suggested this and that (power options changes, uninstalling USB driver in Device Manager, disabling quick start, etc. ) and still nothing. I then did a Windows Restore but it would not do so. I tried earlier restore points and still nothing--Windows restore could not complete. And I got the same error message in trying to put it back to its previous point , to undo restore, and oddly enough the same message of no success popped up.
Oh yeah another odd thing: Although the task bar Windows Security Defender said all is OK actually clicking on it showed that it wasn't turned on and nor can I turn it on saying "this app is ... Read more

I know this issue has been raised before but the solutions offered in the past hasnt solved my problem. I was trying to re-upload a torrent I deleted previously through u-torrent (Im going to to remove utorrent as soon as I resolve this issue) and somehow managed to assign all my exe files to open through the u-torrent program. I tried restoring from command prompt but nothing happened.

Any program I try to open, the u-torrent window pops up and this pops up

"Unable to load "rstrui.exe": Invalid torrent file!"

"Unable to load "Mainstub.exe": Invalid torrent file!"

I tried deleting Utorrent but it says I need "permission to perform this action" when I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR. Answer:[SOLVED] All files open through same (exe) program, including internet, system restor

Hi, use your working computer to download this, run the zip file and then Copy the resultant (VistaEXE.reg file), onto a flash drive then insert into the problem computer, save to desktop and call it VistaEXE.reg Right click to merge into the registry. Reboot

If you do not see a Merge option when you right click on the REG file, then you will need to check in Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try merging the REG file again. Reboot

I lost the Partition to windows (formatted) and Hps recovery software does not work. Gives me a very vague error with no help. Tells me to contact Hp. They are trying to rip me off for $60 just to start. I never even used there support before  and my computers just over a year now. I really should have ever since  the purchase but did not find the time. Anyway, I delyt with all the issues but now I really need help. I tried factory reset, does not work. If I could get the recovery software I could probably get it up and running again but hp shuts me out before I ever have a chance to ask customer service about how to get it.

Answer:Lost my windows partition syset restor from bios wont work

Formatting the C: drive breaks the Recovery function which requires some files on C to launch into recovery. If you formatted the entire hard drive you also deleted files needed to do a system recovery. HP Recovery Manager when working formats the C: partiton before reinstalling Windows. HP Recovery Manager could have also been used to create Recovery Media on dvd or usb flash drive.Sounds as if you formatted away all of your free options. Purchase Recovery Media from HP seems to be only way back now.

Answer:Satellite L505 - Which one is better?

Hi buddy,

I assume you mean Satellite L505 and Qosmio X505?! Right?

Well, the notebooks are completely different. Qosmio X505 is high performance gaming notebook and much expensive because it?s equipped with newest and best hardware.

Satellite L505 is cheap model with other hardware, it?s not designed for gaming but ideal for office, Internet, etc.

It?s depending on your requirements: If you need one for games, you should buy the Qosmio.

Have you already cleaned a notebook before? If not I would recommend reading this article about cleaning a Toshiba notebook:

I own a Satellite L505-10T and would like to change CPU with a more powerful model. What are the supported CPUs today?

Answer:Satellite L505-10T - CPU upgrade

CPU upgrade is not supported and if you do something like this it is on your own risk. Toshiba has created one document about it and you can read it on

Also very important thing is that such action will cancel valid warranty. In my opinion it is not so good idea. Generally speaking CPU performance cannot be so bad and what you can do is RAM and HDD upgrade. RAM can be upgraded to maximum level and HDD can be exchanged with fast SSD.
I have done this on my machine and notebook performance is simply amazing. Both upgrades are supported by Toshiba and you can do this on our own.

Answer:Satelllite L505-10X - CPU upgrade

You will need to check firstly, what kind of CPUs are supported by chipset.
If chipset supports new CPU you’ve got good chances to get a new CPU working.

But beside the chipset support, the BIOS must support new CPU too.
So even if the chipset would provide such support, without BIOS support you will not be able to perform such CPU upgrade.

On Intel page you should be able to find all details about the Intel chipset support.

It is not easy to say why this happen but I can imagine you have forgot to install some important component. Fact is that drivers and all other Toshiba specific stuff must be installed in right installation order.
Here is Win7 install order and you can check if you have done it on the same way or something is not installed:

Having 4G of RAM (2 x 2G), I wanted to to upgrade to 8G (2 x 4G). I found out that my mother board supports 8G of DDR3 1066Mhz (PC3 8500) as a maximum. I bought the following two RAM modules: Corsair CM3X8GSDKIT1066.

My BIOS accepts these and shows a total RAM of 8192M. I have the BIOS version 2.10 (the latest version). I disabled "USB Legacy Emulation".

Running Windows 7 32-bits and Linux 32-bits without PAE work. They detect 3G of RAM.
Running Windows 7 64-bits halts the laptop, even in Safe Mode. Running Linux 32-bits with PAE or Linux 64-bits halts the laptop after a few minutes. Installing Linux 64-bits with the 8G RAM in place also halts the laptop a few minutes after the installation starts.

What is going wrong in my system and how can I upgrade the RAM to the maximum supported size?

Thank you.

Answer:Upgrade RAM to 8G on Satellite L505-13J

The notebook supports an i5-430; CPU and the supported FSB is 1066Mhz.
This means that RAM modules would run max at 1066mhz
The notebook supports also the 8GB RAM (2 x 4GB)

In my opinion it looks like the new modules are not fully OK or compatible?
There are many users in this forum who had problems with modules from Corsair?

Try good quality modules from Kingston? they might be expensive but should work ok.

Hi everyone,

Forgive me if my english is a little weird, it's not my native language :)

I need a little help solving this mistery : I've had my Satellite 505-13X for more than a year, with Win7 pre-installed, all was working just fine and I got very fond of the Fn (Fonction) key, used it all the time !

Now sudenly it doesn't work anymore - no reaction whatsoever when I press it. And since the last time it worked I didn't install any new software or anything.
I obviously checked the key itself, but as far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with it, It moves just as the other keys... ??

I read in the manual and here in the support section that it can be deactivated by some programs. That's very instructive and all, but it doesn't say anywhere what to do when it does happen !!
Soooo frustrating.

Any ideas ?
Thanks for your help, it's not a matter of life and death but it's just really annoying when you can't use your old habits anymore... Grrrrrr !

Answer:Satellite L505-13X - How to reactivate the FN key?

FN keys are controlled by Value Added package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools you can download on Toshiba website.

My laptop won't start up after it received a bit of a blow to the keyboard. Given the nature of the cause, I assume it is a hardware issue... I opened it up and examined all of the components but was unable to find any obvious cracks or dents in anything.

Since the problem started, I am unable to get the laptop to come on. When I press the power button, the lights will come on like it is trying to boot up, but then it will die and restart. At this point the lights usually stay on for longer without it dying, but at no point during any of this does anything show up onscreen whatsoever. I have tried starting from the battery and with it plugged in to no avail.

Just wondering if anyone might have any insight as to a good starting point of what might be the culprit. The area that was struck was just about dead center, on the space bar, if that helps....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Answer:Satellite L505 Doesn't Start Up

Hi, sounds like the mainboard may be damaged. The soldering comes loose when the mainboard is impacted which causes all kinds of problems.

You could try re-seating the RAM or try a different Hard Disk, but failing that you may need to send the notebook to a Toshiba Service Center and get a quotation.

Hi Cvalda,

If something went wrong during BIOS update you can do nothing to reflash the ROM module because special tools are necessary. This can only be done from an authorized service provider.

Answer:Satellite L505 - Start up issue

Have you used original recovery image you got with your notebook or you have used own OS installation?
Do you have recovery DVD? if you install Windows using this disc you should have properly activated and valid licence and additional activation is not necessary.

What's new in the BIOS Update v2.00 for Satellite l505-144

Answer:What's new in the BIOS Update v2.00 for Satellite L505-144

Hi mate

As far as I know Toshiba European driver page does not provide any details what has been changed in the BIOS.
But I found some details on Toshiba US page.
It seems that Fn+N+1/2/3/4 debug function has been removed in BIOS 2.0 to avoid keyboard abnormal behavior.

Hi everybody...

I own a L505 model with ATI's HD5165 graphics adapter. I've noticed recently that my display drivers were completely out of date (about a year and a half years old) and so are the latest available to download from Toshiba's website.

Several users in this forum suggested to look for more updated drivers under more recent models, but they are not compatible with my system (installation doesn't even start and manual "Have Disc" update does not work either) . Downloading drivers directly from ATI's website are also not supported and do not install. It's actually said in the site that if you own a notebook from a vendor (Toshiba included) you must obtain drivers from the vendor directly.

I aware of the fact that older models will benefit less from the latest drivers, since they target more recent hardware, but still, some bug fixes/security issues/etc are relevant to all machines. Therefore, a consent decline in the frequency in which drivers are released for older notebooks is not fair.

Either users should be provided with a tool to enable updating with ATI's official drivers (without violating warranty) or Toshiba must keep up the pace...

Is there any other way I can update my driver?

Answer:Out-Of-Date ATI Drivers For Satellite L505

Unfortunately I cannot give you answer to your question.
Fact is that you should use Toshiba drivers only. I think I must not explain why.

Hopefully Toshiba will help the customers and offer full support for display drivers.

Firstly my laptop: Satellite L505-13D
..and the problem: after ..let?s say.. a year, my videos started lagging. I tried to reinstall graphic drivers, codecs, media players, the problem maintains on every video player.

The problem does not occur on clips watched in internet browsers. Following few advices about Intel rapid storage technology driver, I tried to reinstalled it as well.. nothing happened.

Today my last attempt to get rid of this problem failed as I reinstalled my windows and all movies and clips continue to lag. It?s looking like 3 seconds playing and one second not.

Does anyone have any idea what can cause this and what can i do to solve this please?
Thank you, heppi

Answer:Satellite L505-13D - video lagging

I only want to add that the same movie lags when play from HDD and does not when played from CD. That might look like there are problems with HDD but there are also movies on my HDD that are playing without problems. And also when playing one movie right after my system starts, it does not lag bud few minutes later it does ..

Any clue?

Almost a year after buying a Toshiba Satellite L505-13E, I started noticing temperature problems (it starts going at 70?, sometimes more, hitting 89?), even had the computer just power off (not the correct way through windows, instead, in a moment it's on, the other it's off when it hits 90?). I bought a cooling stand to maintain the computer at low temperatures, but the stand is not that good and the temperatures get levelled at 60? at best, but does solve the problem temporarily.

I usually have Skype (normally i'm not on a call so the cpu doesn't spike, but I do have the ocasional call), msn, irc, have a program to check mails regularly (thunderbird) and have firefox opened. At maximum the cpu spikes at 32% or similar with all of these opened (normally it's at 9-14% or so), so I don't think it's any problem related to massive processing of applications (but like anything else, sometimes it spikes to bigger percentages, but not that much or for so much time). I do use all of these at the same time. Because of the temperature problem, I installed an app to check regularly the state of the system.

As the problem is internally in the computer, I suppose it may be because the fan is stuck or something. I do clean the dust when it's time, but it also solves the problem temporarily (I don't open the computer case however, as it is under warranty and I don't want to void the warranty or break the computer). Answer:Satellite L505-13E - Overheat problem?

> As the problem is internally in the computer, I suppose it may be because the fan is stuck or something. I do clean the dust when it's time, but it also solves the problem temporarily (I don't open the computer case however, as it is under warranty and I don't want to void the warranty or break the computer). I'd like to find a more permanent solution without buying anything else as I don't think this is the correct solution for the problem.

The dust and debris are the main reasons why the notebook overheats. The dust inside the cooling modules prevents the fans from rotating faster which affects the cooling and leads to higher temperature.
So as you said; removing dust help you? and this should be done from time to time.

You say this is temporal solution for you? Hmm? I have no idea how you want to use the notebook is a dust free room? Only this would keep prevent dust from cooling modules.

I clean my notebook using compressed air spray. This helps and does not affect my warranty.

Indicated by TEMPRO software delivered with my Satellite L505-138 I updated the BIOS version but halfway the process stopped and fan kept running at high speed and nothing happened anymore. After one hour the only option I had left was to disconnect power and remove the battery. The laptop does not do anthing anymore now and refuses to startup.

Who can advise me what to do?

Answer:Re: Satellite L505-138 - Nothing happens after BIOS update

Usually if after BIOS update the notebook doesn?t start and the update wasn?t installed successfully the ROM module must be reflashed. The problem is this can only be done from an authorized service provider because they have special diagnostic tools especially for every Toshiba notebook.

So I would recommend contacting the guys and ask for help. I believe this problem can be clarified very easy: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Good luck! :)

Dear friends,Good Day.My Toshiba Satellite L505-10X laptops Cooling fan is not working.CPU Temperature is not displayed in PC health Monitor's application .Kindly Guide me to solve this problem,Regards,Siva

Answer:Satellite L505-10X cooling fan is not working

Just because the temperature isn’t mentioned in the Toshiba Health Monitor, it doesn’t mean, that the cooling fan doesn’t work properly.

Can you hear the cooling fan running?
Does the notebook shuts off unexpectedly?

In my opinion if the cooling fan would not work properly, the internal temperature should increase very fast to an critical level… in such case the notebook should shut down automatically…

But if the unit doesn’t shut off and if you are still able to use it properly, then I doubt that there is some problem with the cooling module.

I've a Satellite L 505-13N and installed windows 8.1.
While a lot of shortcut keys (screen, lock, sound etc) work properly, I can't control the touch-pad.

Initially in Windows 8.1 where drivers for touch-pad (Synaptics PS/2) installed.
Device manager shows that the device is installed and works properly but it doesn't.

I've found and installed the driver package "Synaptics_v15_2_20_C_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Signed_Marketing_SGS94_UI-Scrybe" but I still cannot use the device..

I've seen already that my device is not supported for windows 8 (I wonder why??)
but I would be grateful if anybody could propose an idea for waking it up..

Answer:Satellite L505-13N - touchpad does not work in Win 8.1

The installed Synaptics driver package does not seem to be compatible with Win 8.1.
In the description it say clearly: Vista 64bit, Win7 64bit

Maybe you should simply try to install the Synaptics touchpad driver which was released for other, newer notebook models. Newer notebook series supports Win 8.1 and in my opinion there is a good chance to get the touchpad working using the Win 8.1 driver version.

Hi! I have problem with my keyboard. I dont know why but when i write with some keys apprear 40 with the letters and numbers. With0 the space appears the zero (0)

Can0 you help me please?

Answer:Re: Satellite L505-13N - Some keys appear when I write something

Hi buddy,

Since when do you notice this behavior and does it also happen if you use an external keyboard? Using an external keyboard you can determine if it?s hardware or software problem so I think this would be the easiest and fastest way to check what is wrong exactly.

Hi all,

is there another battery pack available for the L505 with more power and a longer runtime?

Best regards,

Answer:Satellite L505 - New battery with more power

Have you already checked the Toshiba website for compatible batteries? You can check this on the Accessories Homepage: > Peripherals & Services > PC Options & Accessories

You can get a new battery from an authorized service provider. Just call them and ask for that. ;)

Is there any way to update quite old Catalyst version for L505?
Original one from doesn't fit.

Answer:ATI Catalyst update for Satellite L505

> Original one from doesn't fit.
What does this mean?
If you use the compatible driver for your graphic card, then you should be able to install the driver.

Maybe you would need to use a small trick; you have to install the display driver in device manager. Means you have to choose and mark the graphic chip, then you have to choose Advanced installation which helps you to point to the driver package which you have downloaded. This will force Windows OS choosing this driver.
