Preferred Solution: Searcqu kept coming up on a website of mine,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A sponsored web page is coming up instead of the web site for the company I work for. But only when you do not type in the www prefix. Why would this happen and how do you get rid of it? We are an established business and our page has been up error free for years. This only very recently started happening.

Thank you in advance for any tips or information.

Two weeks ago my website stopped showing up in IE. -Others can see it on their computers. But not any comps in my home.-It is owned by me, so not banned.-Worked fine for past 2 yrs.-Cleaned up all cookies and temp files, reset router, used ccleaner.-Hosting company said it is working properly.-Using a free proxy to view website works.Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is driving me nuts.  Use win7.

Answer:Only ONE (mine) website won't load.

Does it work in other browsers (Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome)?Have you checked the HOSTS file?

I"ve asked this before (to no avail) and still have a problem with some website images that show up as a gray box with maybe a little of the image showing up at the top. So, Why are some web images are turning out gray when I open up a website? What is interesting, is my wifes computer does the same thing. I've googled and asked on Yahoo answers but not a single person seems to know what I am talking about. Here is what I am talking about in inserted picture below. What's interesting is my pictures from my camera are all good and I have hundreds on my hard drive. In fact, most pictures come through as they should - clear. Anyone have an idea what I may do to change this? I am running Windows XP and IE 8 on my desktop computer. Answer:website images coming out gray

Is this just a problem with some pictures on the internet only? Are the same pictures that turn up grey on your computer the same ones that turn up grey on your wifes, or is it completley random?

Have you tried using a different browser to see if it makes any difference, although it sounds as though it could be an ISP problem if it's happening on a seperate computer also. Who is your ISP?

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

best,

rick

I thought it usually was websites that infected PCs, but my website has been "hacked" so that it contains malware that my Avast antivirus identies as "HTML:Iframe-inf".Since this has happened twice recently, I was wondering if this problem could come from my PC.The website is www.oack.no. When is the official Windows 10 Mobile update coming? Or is it coming at all? I really just don't want to mess up with preview tools anymore, especially not with my new 930 just to be sure that if i installed the preview, and when i would roll back to 8.1 (when the official w10m update comes) i get the right OS version to roll back to, and by then the right w10m update version for lumia 930 :p I mean that I am afraid that I would get windows 8.1 version for 512Gb RAM or 1Gb RAM phones, and by then not getting features for this phone from the windows 10 mobile because the phone would think it is a lumia 520 or something, and not 930 like it is :/ sorry for my english and explaining skills, but this really bothers me.. Please tell me is the official update coming at all or do I have to use just preview? :/ If the official update is not coming, i feel cheated because the release date is pushing forwars all the time xb

Hi everyone. I have my headphones plugged in and am getting poor sound quality out of them. My computer says that the sound is coming through my speakers, but its not (its just coming through the headphones.) I've attached a picture of what the comp's showing me for reference. I've tried going to the Sound menu and making the headphones the default device, with no luck. This issue seemed to happen after I was done using Google video chat with my headphones plugged in. I am trying to get the sound quality in my headphones back to normal. They work with every other device. Please help!

Answer:CPU says sound coming through speakers, but its coming via headphones

Did you try re-plugging the headphones yet? Is it jacked or USB?

One of the things I do on this wonderous device is to belong to a forum.I am sure you are aware how these workAll members enter a discussion and send their pieces to a 'central hub'where it all recirculates to the membership, and they respond, etc. When this happens ones own input comes back on the next hook uptogether with responses. This happens most of the time. When I respond to a piece or initiate a new topic, the item is inevitablycomposed in a 'reply'window- that is the send address is the same as the received address. Here is the puzzle. Some times a contribution from me, does not 'come back' and there are nomentions/responses to the piece - so did the list get it?Sometimes as this morning there were six messages all referring to a topicfrom a member which never appeared on my screen. So on this increasingly busy electronic highway, does every thing sentalways arrive?J

My oldest pc which is a HP was infected by a very bad virus that made my PC only reboot, and once it almost logged on to desktop it rebooted again and so on. So then I was forced to make my computer go into system recovery which just happend to erase my eithernet drives on my mobo so now I can't LAN with this computer, and had losing the computer driver disks a while back doesnt help.

My question: is there a download from some site I can download the eithernet drivers for this old Hp system of mine?

Thanks

Answer:Need help On a older pc of mine.

Just gotta find out what kind of mobo is in there specifically and visit the HP site. They should have a drivers section there. But the onboard ethernet should have the drivers on the motherboards drivers disk....if you lost that disk then how are you able to install all the other motherboard required drivers? If it's a seperate network card like I said you need to know the brand name and probably a serial number and they'll have a drivers section

i bought an empty pc case from a car boot sale, no psu, motherboard or anything but it does have a microsoft xp pro licence sticker/number on it.i have an xp pro disc already from my current install so can i legally use my disc with this case and number ?if so what if the prvious owner simply rehoused his equipment in a new case and already has the number registered ?

Answer:sticker but is it mine ?

I would suspect that since you only have the label and not the CD that it came with that it wouldn't be legal to use it, but wait and see as I may be wrong and someone may know better.

Question: router isn't mine

I live in a multi-unit apartment building that offers QWest DSL service to tenants. Each unit is supplied by a line from the same router, in a little room somewhere. The router hooks into a QWest business DSL account. Neither the manager nor landlord really know much about how the service works. The manager just activates the appropriate port on the router when a tenant signs up.
I got the service to take my PS2 online (I have no computer), mainly to play first-person shooters. I use the Sony adapter, not USB. I immediately noticed a lot of lag. The best ping-time available was about 150, usually it's more like 300. (connection is DHCP). Then I got a message from one game that I was behind a firewall, and could not host games. When I asked the landlord about this, he said the router doesn't have a built-in firewall, but essentially hooks up all our dynamic addresses to its static address, so the effect is the same. When I inquired about things like port-forwarding and DMZ he had no clues or suggestions.
The problem is that they have the router, and I don't have much access. I doubt they'd let me monkey around with it very much; If there's anything I need to do to it, I'll have to know what to do beforehand, as well as convince them that I'll do no harm. I can probably find the make and model of the router easy enough.
20 bucks a month is what they charge, and it'd be a good deal if I could get down to a decent ping time, but right now ... Read more

hi there...
i have a hp notebook with vista home premium...

i finally convinced my boss to drag his *** into the 21st century and he bought his first pc. its a desktop packard bell... apparently with vista home premium. however, his vista looks completely differently to mine. it looks more like a fancier version of xp.

when he clicks the start button, there is no start search field at the bottom and the icons look like xp ones!! wtf?! has anyone else ever heard of this?? could this be a non genuine version?? if so, what should he do?? he bought it from a large reputable company in the uk (pc world)

thanks for any help

Answer:Vista is different to mine

It's hard to tell exactly what OS he has without system information or a screenshot. If it looks like XP, then it's most likely XP. Are you sure that it was supposed to have Vista on it?

EDIT: Does it look like this?

In my task manager I have a process that uses a lot of resources named winss.exe. I searched the Windows Startup Database and learned that it could be either a legitimate process of Windows Onecare or it could be a worm. How do I know the legitimate process from the worm?

Answer:Is mine legitimate?

Since it is using a lot of resources and you can see it.,it is probably the malware version.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan ... Stack overflow at line 1, how do I fix this? Previously, I used a registry cleaner (1 free trial) and my computer was very fast for a while. How can I get this result again -for free? I only use this for pictures of my grand children, some email, daily scriptures, and my farmville that makes me so happy. Can anyone help me, please?

Answer:memory, and not just mine...

Darn computers.Well, I'd test it with a thing called memtest. Let it run for a day or so.Then I might look at event logs. They may offer a clue. Might consider a restore point if this issue happened a few days or a few weeks ago.Worse comes to worse, you may have to reload the OS.I would get my important files off it right now. Save it to a web site like hotmail or other storage online. Or use a large usb drive or burn dvd's. 1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

I am purchasing 2 pcs for my kids rooms & wish to hook them up to the internet via mine(will refer to my pc as 'main').We live in a rural area, no dsl or high speed, I connect to the net via an internal dialup 56k modem. The way I wish to do this is by using cat5e cable,(is that what ethernet firewire jack on the board is?) there aren't any physical accessibility problems in our house for running cable, thru the basement & back up into their rooms, have done it for the tv antenna.
What is the best equipment to do this?, hub vs.switch, is it better to run 2 cables to their rooms from the main pc etc & how do I do it?
I have downloaded the sharing config info for 'control panel' so don't need that, just the physical way to accomplish this.
Please do not hesitate to use rudimentary terminology, in fact I welcome it.
Thanks for any help. (I have gone thru all 7 pages in this forum & don't see a post addressing my particular challenge.)
Thanks for taking the time.

Hi,I am on Sky Broadband and am using a wireless router but it isn't in fact "wireless," because it is connected to the computer with an ethernet cable. However my next door neighbour alarmed me somewhat this evening when he told me that his son is setting up his new wireless laptop, and on getting it set up he found that the settings had discovered a 'Sky Network.'Can I rule out the fact that this is my Network he has cottoned on to?Only sometimes I get two networks, one private and one public on my computer which prevent me from connecting to my ISP. Could this be relevant? Hope someone can advise me on this as it is worrying.Regards, cowgirl66

Answer:Could this Network be mine?

No, cannot be ruled out, better check your Security!I am afraid I am not competent enough to advise fully - but no doubt others will come to your assistance.

I am looking for some upgrade advise for two OAPs

20 odd months ago they purchased from PC World a Packard Bell ALP-Ajax C3 laptop.

I can find very little information/specs' for this machine.

It has never been used, on getting it home they turning it on, it wouldn't.

They spoke to PCW who treated them so bad, they were to scared to take it any further, so a ?400 laptop, ( then ), gathering dust.

I got involved a few days ago, the problem, faulty mains lead.

I have yet to set eyes on this laptop but I have been asked by their daughter if I can update/upgrade it in any way.

I have no idea what OS this unit shipped with, I am hoping it is not Vista, ( because I am not familar with Vista ) but XP.

If it is Vista, is this machine capable of handling Win 7 HP if I purchase and install it for them?

If not, I have a retail version of win 98se and a retail version of XP home upgrade and SP 1 & 2, I would gladly install it all and let them have all the disks.

If I had to, could I install XP this way, removing Vista altogether if installed?

What information I have found leads me to believe that this machine is only capable of having a maximum of 1GB of Ram installed, if that.

Can anyone advise what kind/type of memory modules fits into this machine?

A reason for leaving Vista installed or installing Win 7 HP is I could utilize a USB stick or SD card slot, ( if fitted ) and using ReadyBoost increase RAM that way, would this be posible?

Answer:Help with Laptop, ( not mine ).

Welcome to Seven Forums.
If the laptop came with a Windows OS installed their should be a Genuine Windows OS sticker on the back of the laptop.
That would be the first place I would look.
If you can't power up the system then it's impossible to know what it came with. Once powered on, if it came with Vista a simple reformat of the hard drive and a legal copy of XP could be installed. However you will then need to go on and figure out the hardware and try and find the drivers for them.
Much more information is need to really be of any help.

Answer:Another little tip, but not mine this time;-(

Yes, you can also do this with any line of text from a post, used it for a while but never thought of mentioning it so well done for letting us know. :o)

Hello, I know many of you do computer cleanups for people. I am wondering what you arm yourself with on your thumb drive. Here is the list of what I have. I have Avira on there seeing as it's my favorite but I will install any anti-virus they wish. Is there any that I am missing or you suggest I add? I remame them with the version number so I can know when something needs updated.

Is it ok to delete the All Users directory in Documents and Settings in Windows XP?

I only have a 20Gb hard drive and so want all the space I can get and there's only me that ever uses the computer so I don't see the point of having 2 different setups.

Answer:All users vs just mine

the all users will have a lot of your program setups in
if you look at programs in that directory you will see all that it controls
how much space is it using up ?
Mines only 20MB

I dont know if you can delete it - but remenber a lot of the information will need to go into your account anyway - so maybe no great saving.

Have a look at temp files and your internet settings and temp settings for internet files

Answer:Mine says it is not genuine

The installed Key is a KMS Volume License Key - this requires a dedicated KMS Host server within the issuing organisation.
Does the Key in the report agree with your Key?
If so, and you are not a member of such an organisation, then you were sold a counterfeit.

If the Keys are different, and your Key is for Windows 7 Pro, then you can change the Key to your, and activate that.

Hi, I just want to make that post for people like me that was a bit upset about all those problems we see here on the forum. Order date: 20th of JulyShipping date: 23th of JulyReceived: 3 August First, here the specs of my order: X220 i7 2gb ram250gb HDDbluethoot, wifi intel 1000, webcam,Type: 4286BIOS 1.17Windows 7 home premium First impression of the laptop:1. the cover lid is cheaper then what we are use to. It's pretty flexible, and it makes some cracking (claking) noise when you hold your laptop with one hand. They have choose to cut the lid in two part (the external cover) probably to make it looks nicer and it was a bad idea (that's probably where the clicking sound come from) and it make the laptop feel less sturdy.2. When you open the laptop, the first thing that pop to my eyes is the hole just over the camera. You can see that there is an electronic board behind or something like that. I figure out tha's the hole where they put the light. Before the design was done with a little plastic cover mold into the screen plastic to hide all this. It's not too bad, but it's a flaw in the design for sure. For those who say that the thinkpad are ugly anyway, I personnaly don't think so.3. The base part of the laptop is really solid. The keyboard is a thinkpad keyboard, nothing more to say. But I'm not sure yet about the new touchpad, I personnally prefer the old one but I don't use it that too much, I always have my bluethoot mouse connected to th... Read more

Answer:Just got mine, no issue so far

I got my 2X 4GB of ram. It was easy to install. For those who wonder, yes the kingston RAM works like a charm with Lenovo. For those who are asking if they would be better with corsair or something else, I would say stick with Kingston, they have lifetime garanty and for me they have always worked the first shot. Simply pick the DDR3, 4GB, 10600. So as long as it's 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 you will be fine.  Here's mine: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139190 So for $50 you can upgrade from 2GB to 8GB. Other thoughts on the X220, it's a bit thicker then I would have expected. The X300 is slimmer and it's an older computer. It feel a little bit bulky. But I will get use to it.

ThinkPad X220, I7 2620M, 8GB RAM, Intel 320 160GB SSD, IPS screen, USB 3.0, Bluethoot, Cam, Win 7 pro 64, BIOS: 1.17, Model: 4286-CTO, Fabrication date: 07/11

Greetings, and welcome to Major Geeks!

If you wish to upgrade your XP pro, try windows update. Simply start internet explorer, then click on the TOOLS menu, then WINDOWS UPDATE.

From there it should be self explanatory.

Also, posting the location of the minidump is nice, but if you could post "as an attachment" the minidump file itself (Mini111205-01.dmp), either I or someone else could help you in your situation.

Thanks, once again for coming here!

Hey everyone I just upgraded my RAM to some really great corsair high performance ram. I have 32bit vista, I put 4GB in just for the heck of it and it showed up as 4GB installed in my System Properties, I think I heard microsoft did this so users would stop complaining about the ram not being recognized, is this true or does my system really recognize it?

Answer:32-bit 4GB RAM, mine is recognized..???

Yes, it's true. As of SP1, the number being reported is the "installed" RAM, which is 4.0GB, and not the amount left for the OS after hardware MMIO takes its chunk, which is generally somewhere between 3.0 and 3.75GB on most machines. If you run WINVER you should see the "real" number.

Question: Why's mine faster?

My friend just got a new computer. Vista rates the cpu .1 points faster than mine, the ram .4 points faster, and the primary hard disk .2 points faster. But mine is much faster all around to use. Even things like opening the control panel are faster. The only better thing about mine is that mine has 128 mb more ram, and a much better video card. And he has much less stuff on his than I have on mine. Is there any reason why mine would be significantly faster than his?

Answer:Why's mine faster?

What are both of your computers specs?

Ok on my computer keeps saying there is a virus in it. Her computer has never came up with it. So I can't play the game. Any way she uses the free avg and freedom(firewall?). I have f-secure and this is what it says "Backdoor win32.rbot.jwg c;\program files\the price is right\vtmcebk.exe action:renamed." She uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and that came up every time. If anyone can help me it would greatly be appreciated. I don't understand why mine says virus and hers doesn't.

Question: Hijack Log O' Mine

Hello.
This is my first attempt to use HijackThis. I recently performed an XP installation from oem recovery discs (12 of them!) on a machine I bought used. I've tried to clean up the install, but I'm worried about what may have been left behind. I've never seen an oem OS with this much extra "stuff". Thanks so much for your valuable time!

Answer:Hijack Log O' Mine

Better just check but it all looks fine...

This will help to identify malware on your system.
Please download Combofix from any of these locations:

Here
or
Here

Save ComboFix to the desktop and please ensure that you disable realtime security/virus programs that monitors your PC while CF is running.

1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Copy and Paste the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log. Do not use Code or html unless asked for.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.

Caution...Never run and remove files using ComboFix without being supervised by a security analyst.

Is time to upgrade my Think pad but not sure it can be upgrade as my current  thinkpad X61 is model type 7674GK1, and current fitted hard disk 80G and RAM 4G, processor centrino dual core 2.2GHz (I think so), OS window Vista Home, any recommendations?

Answer:What can be Upgraded on mine X61

I think your laptop is not a slouch and is not lacking in the speed department. Since you can't really use graphic intensive softwares, since you can't get discrete GPU, then the point of upgrading to any current new generation of X200, X301 is questionable.  But what you should do to speed up the laptop is to get the new Win 7, and a larger hdd.

Hello, short time reader, first time poster sorry if this is silly simple or over asked.

problem in short:

a computer on my network sends approx. 3 ARP requests every 4 seconds, and I can't figure out why.

more long-winded explanation:

Me- first time network administrator, no prior experience, taking CISCO Interconnecting Network Devices Courses Online to learn what the heck I'm doing.

My network- (ironically, completely non-cisco) Satellite connected to Decoder, to Linksys router running DD-WRT firmware, 24 port D-link switch, 20 computers running mix of XP and Vista. Each computer is assigned a static LAN IP address in the class III range (192.168.1.XXX). DHCP client is disabled for LAN, enabled for WAN. Router takes care of all IP forwarding, LAN/WAN resolution. Wireless is disabled for WLAN. All IP addresses outside of those assigned are blocked. Security measures. I have installed Wireshark on my computer and his computer to monitor network traffic while trying to figure this out.

My problem- a computer on my network (running vista) continually sends out broadcast ARP requests, they are being sent 3 at a time, about every 4 seconds. They are in the format "Who has IP address 192.168.1.1 (the router)? Tell 192.168.1.21 (problem computer).
Watching traffic on his computer (wireshark) the router responds correctly every time. Using command prompt: >arp -a shows a list of mac addresses and correctly displays the router's mac address with ... Read more

Answer:All his ARP are mine!! HALP PLz! :)

Additionally:

I forgot to mention before that the overall effect of all of these ARP requests seems to be decreased network performance. The connection is slow to begin with (1mb/s download 500kb/s upload, on a clear weather day).

I have quality of service tweaked to prioritize UDP traffic from Yahoo Messenger and AIM, since the biggest priority for all of us is to connect back home with our families. But now, some web pages, especially any with authentication (myspace, online classes, online banking, etc) end up timing out. People get "Connection reset with server" errors much too often.

More questions because I just got off mission, am rather tired and feel like rambling:

Do ARP broadcasts interrupt normal traffic? Is this connection logical, or may I have yet another problem on my hands slowing everybody down?
DD-WRT router firmware has an incoming and outgoing "log" that will show me IP addresses, protocol used, and port numbers of traffic, but I would like to figure out how to sniff the traffic on my router to see if anyone is using applications that they are not supposed to be using (bittorrent, skype, online gaming, etc) any suggestions there?

Here's a HJT log from a friend of mine who's having a lot of spy/malware issues that she can't seem to get rid of. She uses Netscape, but her son also uses the computer and he uses IE.

Nasty things have names like StartPage-DU.dll, Adware-SearchAid, and VX2.
Hang-ups and error messages concerning TaskBar not closing, etc.

Please make sure that Word Wrap is disabled in notepad next time. The formatting it created makes it difficult for us to analyze it.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and double-click on the System icon. On the Performance tab click File System. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check Disable System Restore. Click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to rest... Read more

I have an HP Desktop which I bought a couple of years ago with Windows 10. I have since accustomed myself to the differences between 7 and 10. There is one, however, that annoyed me then and try as I might to get over it, it still drives me nuts! I belatedly ask for your help.
Desktop PC. MINE. I am the only user, ever! This PC is ME, but only in my own mind. In previous versions of windows, PC translated as MY COMPUTER and showed the device structure, as well as My Documents, My This, My That. As we all know, ten THIS PC shows Documents, et al. But they are not mine. (Who else could they belong to???) I have my own user folder, Documents, Pictures, Videos, etc. This really annoys me, but I do not know how to change it. The tail wags the dog.
I have made work-arounds, the best of them being placing my USER folder in Quick Access, but there are still times when I lose things only to find them in the annals of This PC. It is unnerving!!
Can anyone tell me how I can make THIS PC synonymous with ME? Who is running this show anyway? Obviously not me.😓😓
TIA,
Georgia

Answer:How to make MY PC mine?

Can you post one or more screen shots to show what you are talking about?
When I open This PC , this is what I see:

I don't find it confusing at all. What do you see? Is it different?

facebook and browsers state IP in one state when i looked IP up I got different state ever since reset IP changed also bios is locked is there a hacker

Answer:ip address in 2 different states not mine

A hacker can't lock your BIOS, either you or someone else who has access to your computer has done that. The rest of your sentence makes no sense at all. How is Facebook telling you about an IP address? How and why did you change your IP address?

heyyy guys , would any of people who play mince craft know how to make a lan server to play with my mates

Answer:Mine craft server lan

Assuming you are using the "standard" Minecraft server available from minecraft.net (I'm also assuming you are using Beta as opposed to Classic)you would change the values in the server.properties file; specifically, you want online-mode to be "false" and "check-names" to be false, otherwise it will be required for them to login to the minecraft.net server (I'm assuming that you want a LAN server because they haven't purchased minecraft for themselves). If it's classic, well, I don't know. Personally, I consider classic to be more akin to a 3-d paint program for kindergarten children, but that's just me.

Hi,
need help with this slocket converter I have purchased.
my existing motherboard is msi 6309 with a pga370, currently it has a coppermine 666mhz celeron. I have purchased a 1.3ghz tualatin cpu and I am using the lin lin converter slocket. I have upgraded to the latest bios flash of v3.8 available for my motherboard.
the computer detects the cpu as 1.26 ghz and the pc loads to the part where windows 2000 or XP is about to start.
I can even run windows xp in safe mode. the computer does not load normally if left by itself.
can you please help by advising of any different bios upgrades that I can get or any jumper settings that i can change.
thanks
regs atanypc

Answer:lin lin co/mine to tualatin converter

I am in the same situation. Same motherboard, same adapter.

Have a look at this link

http://www.upgradeware.com/english/product/370gu/370-mb/msi/6309 v2.htm

that has some instructions about updating individual facets of the 3.8 bios prior to flashing it to get a similar adapter to work.

When my PC boots with the adapter/tualatin in the L2 cache shows as disabled despite the BIOS showing it in either writeback or writethru mode.

I have the jumpers set to A2/A3, A8/A9. The rest are open to provide the 133FSB.

If someone can come up with how to keep the cache switched on we may be in business.

A relative who has an early Viglen desktop with quite small memory and hard disk has had problems with placing an online order due to the low encryption on his computer. It is only 40bit and he is still using IE 5.01.He approached his ISP and was advised what to do and asked me to help. As it happens his encryption level is set at 40 and the ISP instructions were toIn IE click on Update information link. Follow instructions on webpage. Once high encryption pack installed etc etc.I downloaded the pack and then tired to install it but was advised that this installation requires IE5.01 Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or higher. Installation cancelled>.I have tried to find a suitable version of IE 5.x for him without success. Are versions of IE5.x still available for Windows 98 and a system like his with what is now tiny resources, or can I safely download and install IE6?Due to the slowness of his connection I would be prepared to download to the cd drive of my system but that is XP home. Will that cause any problems? All your help will be welcome.BTW I did gently suggest he should consider that his system was time expired.

Answer:IE encryption- help for a relative of mine

You can safely download IE6 to your computer and transfer it to his computer, hatrickj. Follow these instructions click here it works perfectly. There wont be a problem because you're using XP.

I Wed o send group texts in hundred t a time.

Answer:how many texts can you send at once? mine only does 10 .

If you're attempting to send group texts 100 at a time, you are better off with a web service that handles that. I'm sure there are plenty of sites out there that service spammers for just such an occasion. Sending texts in bulk like this is not legal everywhere, and is usually frowned upon heavily by the people who receive them. If you have that many of hundreds of close friends, I salute you. Most people are lucky to have one or two. If these aren't people you know, then be aware that spamming laws apply, and some people may trace the texts to you and come beat you up. Just sayin'.

i am only replying cause no one else has, i am not expert at this.

to my knowledge there is not. I say this because there is no feature like that on XP home or Pro, (at least that i am aware of, and i try to be a bit aware of these things) so i wouldn't thing there is one on 98

if there is a remote desktop sorta thing, maybe you can usethat to shut down

(the least this will do is get you a response from someone telling me i am wrong and then maybe that will be your answer)

i recently ran the network connection wizard and it informed me that it had detected an unnamed computer connected to mine, how is this possible when i have not allowed this

Answer:another computer connected to mine

There are 2 possible scenarios, neither good. Either someone hacked into your network and is now trying to hack into your computer, or someone already has possibly from the other side of the world. I would run some anti-virus programs to make sure no viruses are on your PC (Use Spybot Search and Destroy, Malawarebytes Anti-Malaware, and Ad-Adware, all are free), and disconnect from the internet when you start doing the scans (whether it is disconnecting from a Wi-Fi network, or unplugging the ethernet cable). Then tell us how things are looking after the scans.Ask and Answer. The way of learning.Dell Dimension 8300Intel Pentium 4 HT @ 3.20 GHz4 GB RAMNvidia Geforce FX5200

I cannot connect to the internet. I share a modem with other computers in my house and the internet is working fine on their computer but not mine. I assure you, everything IS plugged in. I have tried unplugging and plugging back many times and that doesn't work. I am sure that the issue is not simply the gateway. In fact, I used Messenger's troubleshoot option to try and find the issue and it reported my gateway, IP address and proxy settings all as fine, but the problem occured at the "key port" and it had error 80072efd.

I have heard of issues where this problem occured but they were still able to get online, but I cannot get online in any way. I've done a virus scan and even a malicious ad scan for good measure and it was all clear. My best theory is that the issue lies in the "key port" but unfortunately, I have no idea what that is let alone how to fix it.

If it's of any help, I'll let you know that I have a cable modem and operating on Window's XP. Please, if you have any knowledge on the issue, help me. I tried contacting the internet company's tech help and it turns out they knew less about computers than me. I really don't want to have to pay rediculous amounts of money to get this fixed.

Please reply, thank you.

PS. I'm doing this from another computer in my house, if you were wondering.

Answer:Everyone's internet is working except mine

Have you tried without the Firewall and did you check the Windows firewall? because the last one will be active without your knowledge. If you R click on the connections icons R Lower H part of the screen and R click, find status. If you see a lock attached to the pipeline it is the Windowsfirewall. the following helped me out of trouble.
In Xp you can set the connection to Hybride with the following key.
This Key may be absent but you can add it.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters]

"DhcpNodeType"=dword:00000008

The standard setting is: 00000002
Check after a restart with Dos window command setting IPCONFIG /ALL
You will see that the connection is set to Hybride.

Answer:My Computer isn't mine anymore

Hi plzen

To rule out viruses, run an online Anti-Virus scan from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
Allow them to clean/delete any spyware/malware or viruses/trojans they may find.
Make a note of any files flagged that were unable to be cleaned or deleted.

Download or verify you have the most recent versions of:
Ad-Aware SE 1.05
Spybot-S&D (ver. 1.3) and

Install Ad-Aware SE and Spybot-S&D and check each of them in turn for updates.

For Ad-Aware SE click on Full System Scan and deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Let Ad-Aware SE remove what it finds.
Run Spybot-S&D and have it fix what it finds marked in Red.

After running your online virus scans and running Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D,
close all programs and reboot to complete the removal process.

Let us know what you find and if the problem still persists.

Hey gang,
Since you all helped me with my pc, I am hoping you are willing to take a crack at my father-in-law's pc, I'm gonna explain the problem to ya here, because i'm getting nowhere fast. It won't let me into the "my computer" section to remove any unwanted software. It took me 6 times to be able to get to this website. I cannot (for some strange reason) find HighjackThis to download. And at the moment it is refusing to download Adaware. This is something that needs to be taken care of immediately. Poor man also has unwanted popups, I'm sure he's been infected with spyware. We need your help ASAP.
Please send me the info so i can download HighjackThis,
Thanks

Answer:this computer is worse than mine

Ad-aware and Spybot are both a little too big, but HijackThis can fit on, and in fact be run from, a floppy disk. Copy HJT from your machine to a floppy, take it to your FIL's machine and run it. Copy the log back onto to floppy, take it back to your machine, and them post.

About a month ago, i decided to reformat and step up from win2k and go with a copy of winxp 64bit i had laying around (got it from an AMD tour awhile back). Seemed like drivers were out where the periphirals I was using would still work.

So i installed, updated, etc... And it still seems a bit sluggish. I read through the TweakingCompanion from Tweakguides, stopped a bit of the services that I dont use/need. I installed my Spybot SD and AVG and scanned, nothing to be afraid of there. But some things take longer than they should. Forinstance, closing down Media Player Classic while watching something shouldnt take 3 seconds (unless im missing something)

Are there any other tweak guides I could look at? Or anyone have anything that should give it a quick zip?

Answer:Win XP 64-bit tweaks? Mine seems sluggish

You might consider providing a lot more information about the actual hardware you're using right now. I'm suspecting you're low on RAM but it remains to be seen since you didn't specify.

All I know from past experience myself and reading about the results of hundreds of others that have used XP x64 (the correct name; XP64 was the Itanium release) is that it smokes 32 bit XP in day-to-day usage. It's based on the 2K3 core components and kernel, so to put it bluntly, it's freakin' fast as hell.

If it's slow on your machine, there's a reason for it, but you've got to provide more info before anyone's going to be able to make suggestions...

I have the Asus 17.3" current model G73JH-BST7. Pretty darn big, actually bigger than the 18" models being a little under 17" wide, a bit under 13" deep, and whopping 2" tall(at the back). Not finding many sellers online that state the inside dimensions of their cases. Some of the 18" cases I've seen are just a bit shy of what I need. I just want one that opens fully so I can drop it in, and an outside pocket for the power adapter and a wireless mouse. Haven't found anything yet I've been willing to take a chance on. Just curious if anyone else might have this same computer and found a case that they like. {edit}...I just did some more searching and this one came recommended from a forum: Targus-Blacktop-Platinum-Standard

I have intruders all up in my computer.  I can't open some of the files.  When I go to the security tab to get permissions, there are these clever names like trusted installer, and Everyone, and about 13 others.  I ran a regedit and under users, I am not listed.  There are like 3 with long list of hyphenated names like S-1-15-25-, like that.  I have had to reset my pc about 3 times in the last 3 weeks.  I keep trying to take ownership of my files and when I start doing that whomever or whatever removes everything.
I see signs of remote access.  I even tried to follow the directions and start by backing my stuff up.  I tried going to the Cobian website, there was no way my laptop nor my desktop would let me in that website. I got all kinds of error messages, or that connection to the server was no available or that I wasn't connected to the internet.
I'm telling you, they even move my cursor sometimes or they do something that when I move my mouse  my cursor sticks and won't move and then it jumps.  When I try to save or even when I was creating my profile I couldn't put my cursor directly on save.  It's pretty serious.  This has been going on for months.  It started In my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, so I go a new desktop in March, Dell Inspiron 660. Answer:help here~ mine usb kingston cant format

Hello Game01,

Does your USB key have any sort of built-in write protection feature?

If not, then you might see if you may be able to do a "clean all" command on the USB to wipe it clean. Just double check and make sure that you use the command with the correct disk number for the USB so as not to wipe the wrong drive. Afterwards the USB should all be "unallocated space" that you would just format.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello Everyone

I have been using my computer problem free for a while now.

Until recently...

I started using Limewire... pro...

I needed an audio file that I couldn't find off the net via normal Googling, so I used Limewire to find the file...

It found it alright... But for those that know Limewire... It seems to (or people that know how to manipulate the results of limewire searches) come up with dummy files for the unsuspecting downloader to download (enter icer101... )...

I downloaded what looked like the file I needed... funny that the file was called EXACTLY what I typed into the search bar of limewire... Anyways...

I clicked on it, double clicked on it... and my resident web browser opened up with an error message... I didn't really think twice about it, and shut it off before I could read what it had said... But a short glimpse made me believe that it was a generic error... and I thought that the file had a url embedded in it... and that was that...

My PC started playing up after a bit (within a 24 hour time frame)... I must have restarted since, because I got a web page for my desktop... I had manually initiated an avast scan... Problems started occurring... trojans and the like had infiltrated my system... I started merrily deleting them... and finally, avast asked me to reboot so it could do a deeper scan.. I let it.

After the first virus popped up, I selected the "Delete all" selection and left for school...

Upon my return home, I lo... Read more
