Why does my Office outlook lock up almost every time I try t

Question: Why does my Office outlook lock up almost every time I try t

I have a similar problem with Outlook 365, but it only happens when I try to respond or create an email. Most times I just have to close outlook and restart it and do not do anything except to create that email otherwise it will freeze up again, and become non-responsive.Any suggestions?I have done the uninstall and reinstall a couple of times, actually had Office 365 tech do it remotely, it works for a day or 2 and then starts acting up again.message edited by gbkane40

Preferred Solution: Why does my Office outlook lock up almost every time I try t

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"I have a similar problem with Outlook 365"Similar problem to what or who? Best bet is to spell out your own problem exactly because it is yours that wants fixing, not something similar.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

While just typing normally, the caps lock key works fine.  But should I wish to type in all caps, when I press the CL key, the Outlook comes up.  I'm using a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse on my Gateway desktop, model DX4831-01e Core i3 Processor, 6 GB DDR memory, 1 TB ATA hard drive, DVD+RW/CD-RW drive, Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit.  Is there someone out there who can help me with this problem.  "Mr. Google" was no help at all or perhaps I wasn't using the correct search terms.  I'm thoroughly frustrated now as this has been going on for several days.

Answer:Caps lock key opens my Microsoft Office Outlook.

Did you install or remove any software just before this started?  I suggest you try taking your system back to the way it was before this problem by using the System Restore procedure, assuming you have a Restore Point that dates prior to the date this problem started.  A reference: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-System-Restore

Every time I start Outlook there is an installer which runs telling me it is installing Microsoft Office Single Image 2010. When I close down the system there is frequently a message to say that a program is still open and a button to click on to force a shutdown. There is no program listed and if I leave it for a while it will close down anyway.
Other office programs run okay without the installer running. I have found lots of references to this problem but none of the solutions work for me - many of them are for Office 2007 so this seems to be something which has been around for a while. Anyone know how to fix it?

Answer:Configures Miscrosoft Office Single Image 2010 every time I start Outlook

Okay - you can stop looking - I finally solved it! My solution: Go to Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Select Office 2010 and Change. Find the Outlook listing and expand it. Enable ALL components to run from the Computer.

I used to have office 2016 on my pc but at some point I had to do a reset. When I went to install office again, it picked my office 365 license and not the license key I had. I didn't notice this until last week when I started getting notifications that it was expiring.
I tried with tech support to get the original license key installed and not the O365 license but it didn't work.
So does anyone have the proper steps I need to take to install the one time license key?
Thank you

I installed office 2007 (full install after uninstall of office 2003) on vista yesterday and every time I open an office product, it gives me a message ?please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office professional 2007?. Then it pops a window with a status bar for ?Configuration Progress?.

I looked this up online and it said that this was caused by installing as a user, not an administrator. So I uninstalled office entirely, booted, and reinstalled as administrator.

Still doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:office 2007 configuring every time I open an office app on vista

Hey
that behaviour it's from all office versions till now, i didn't see that in 2007, create a new user and see if it does the same, generally office firt starts do that to configure the profile, if it works just backup our profile and make a new one for you

We are using Office 2000 pro on Windows 2000 Pro PC's. We install Office as a local admin. Everthing installs and works fine. After the install a non-local admin logs into office and attempts to open Word. The installer for Office opens. It will only complete if the user has local admin privalages, if not it does not complete properly and each time the user logs in the installer kicks in. Is there a way around this (so once we install Office it will open up for all users, or do all my users have to have local admin privalages for the initial openning of office. After the installer completes, I can remove the the user out of the local admin group and everything works fine. If there is a way around this that would be great. we use roaming profiles and we have several multiuser PC' and the current issue is a real headache

Thank you

Has anyone installed both Office 2003 and Office 2007 on the same PC? If so, did you have any issues? I have Office 2003 installed, and I changed the install path from Microsoft Office to Microsoft Office 2003, thinking I could do the same for Office 2007.

Answer:Office 2003 & Office 2007 at the same time?

I've done this, partially, installing Access 2003 alongside Office 2007 (including Access). I did what you did - used separate installation paths for each of the versions so that there hopefully wouldn't be any conflict with shared files/features. So far, it's worked fine...

I am using Outlook 2003, and every time I open to write a new email the toolbars appear in different locations and spread out, minimising viewable area, how can this be prevented, and them be 'locked' in place?
Also, occurs in other Office applications, but Outlook is the worst!

I have been running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate RTM, with Office 2007 for about 2 or 3 months. For the first two months or so it ran rock solid. Before that, even the Beta ran great. But over the last month or so it has been getting buggier and buggier. Primarily with the Office 2007 applications Outlook and Excel. I have had similar problems with Abobe Framemaker also.

When in Office or Excel, the application locks up. Task manager will start, but it will not kill the application. Other applications and the OS still run, but Office (or Framemaker as the case may be) is dead in the water. The only way to fix it is to hit the reset button. This is now happening 5 or 6 times a day. I have two RAID arrays on this machine, so boot time is considerable.

Has anybody else run into this problem?

I have been trying to work through a problem at work recently, our network has a file server running NT4, which is hosting a bunch of shares for the company, now one user has loaded an excel spreadsheet (word 2000) and they've obviously crashed or had problems at some stage.

However I can no longer open the file because its locked by the user who used it last, theres no temp files in the same folder or in any of the temp folders (nor are they hidden), all our users are on 2k or XP.

I suspect that its some kind of conflict between NT4 and 2k/XP in the way that office holds the permissions for the file. Whoever used it last has permissions so when you're logged into the server and you "take permissions" (an NT feature) it lists the user who has it locked and then sets it to the server login. All this to no avail.

Hi All,

I am wanting to know if there is a Registry setting that would all ow the F Lock to stay on all the time instead of having to click it on every time I want to use it.
Every time the computer re starts I have to press the F lock to stay on again?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Office Keyboard / F Lock

My view is that the F-Lock key is a hardware toggle on the keyboard electronics, not a state of a registry key. While I sympathise, I have doubts you could accomplish it in the PC registry.

have 40 to 50 systems running 2K prof. I'd like to lock them out from being able to surf the net. I figure it can be done several different ways. I'm new with this company, and am just now learning their enviroment.

There are 3 different locations. Each site, has it's own 2K small biz server running.

They have no group policies in effect as well.

Where would you begin, or what would be the easiest solution, all the while providing some scaleability?

Thanks for the help

Hi,
Outlook Express is not available in Windows 7. Try and use Windows Live Mail instead. It works with most e‑mail accounts, and you can import your e‑mail, contacts, and calendar from Outlook Express into Windows Live Mail. Windows Live Mail puts all of your e‑mail in one place.

This annoying problem, thankfully, only occurs occasionally. While rushing through typing a document in Writer, I must do something wrong without realising it. Suddenly the Capitals lock comes on, and I cannot get it off. In order to get lower case letters, I have to put put on Capitals Lock, and vice versa. The only way I can cure it is by doing a restart, and that is such a nuisance. Any suggestions? Allan

Hello, I like seeing AM/PM on any time value. I already know if it's AM or PM, but it looks more Proper to see the AM or the PM with whatever time it is.

What Registry modification/Program can help me achieve this?

Thanks

Answer:AM/PM For The Time At The Lock Screen

You can change the time format, how time is shown on Windows notification area freely but AM / PM is regardless of your settings never shown in Windows Clock and lock screen if 24 hour clock has been selected.

To change how time is shown on Windows desktop, select Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Region, click Additional settings:

Now change time formats manually typing any of the following values for short time. Add :ss for long time for seconds:

h:mm
12 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

h:mm tt
12 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

hh:mm
12 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

hh:mm tt
12 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

H:mm
24 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

H:mm tt
24 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

HH:mm
24 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

HH:mm tt
24 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

Here I have selected 24 hour clock with AM / PM, but it's only shown in notification area. Opening clock does not show AM / PM, nor does lock screen, whatever settings I have chosen as long as I am using 24 hour clock:

Using 12 hour clock AM / PM is always shown in Clock and lock screen if selected.

Is there any way to keep the lock screen from shutting me down if I don't do anything on the keyboard for a minute or 2 minutes, or whatever it is? I followed some instructions that I found on the internet that involve adding ".bak" or ".backup" to the lock screen file in "SystemApps" but it didn't have any effect. Then I clicked on "Settings" in the Start menu and got totally lost in all that stuff.

I am using Office 2003 on an XP pro system. I merge my word document with an existing Access database to send out emails thru Office Outlook. Outlook shuts down, as in stops sending emails at random intervals. Sometimes restating Outlook will get it going but most times it comes down to removing all merged emails and re-doing the merge to get it going again. Sending in groups of 100 to 9000 at a time. The merge goes well, it is the Oulook. Help please.

Anyone else seeing this issue? If I put my tablet into standby when I wake it I don't get the lock screen and it just goes straight to the start screen or whatever app I was using. If I put it into standby again then I'll get the lock screen the next time I wake it but then the next time it won't appear again. I've checked and it's literally every other time.

I looking for a way to limit time on the PC - auto lock Windows after 30 minutes, even (and especially) when the computer is not idle.
When the user will log back into Windows by entering the Windows password, the counter will start again from 30 minutes.

The app should start automatically and silent with Windows, and the user should not be able to stop this app without a password.

Thanks, Nir.

Hello, I used to use a reg file for Windows 8.1 to customize the time until the screen turns off during the Lock Screen Time Out. I want to know if that command still applies for Windows 10.

The reg file command is:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen]
"SlideshowDuration"=dword:000493e0
(where the screen turns off after 5 minutes).

I have the formula to figure out what you need to calculate to insert after "dword" for the amount of time until the screen times out (goes black). Ask me for the formula... as long as the above works.

Thanks

Never mind. I went into the Registry and checked it out.

Yes, the same exact rules apply here like in Windows 8.1

Hi there,

Since I got my current PC I've had an issue where it would occassionally completely lock-up, i.e. completely still image on screen, mouse wouldn't move, and it also put out a buzzing sound through the speakers/headphones. The only option was to force shutdown and start it up again. But it didn't happen that often so I wasn't bothered by it much.

However since updating to Windows 8 it is now happening about 15 minutes into use every time I turn the PC on (but after rebooting doesn't happen again until the next time I turn it on), so I'm looking for a solution now.

Has anyone seen something like this, or got any advise?

Thanks.

WOW!! Exactly what I'm seeing!!!

Usually occurs within 15 minutes of booting. Once a day only. I've had the computer off over 8 hours one day and when turned on it didn't happen... only the FIRST boot of the day. Works fine on any reboots after?

I have gotten random different BSOD's too.

I've also had days at a time when this didn't happen? I did nothing at all to change anything either. Then it starts happening again?

Things I have tried though:

Removed ANY unnecessary programs I had. This computer started with Vista, upgraded to W7, then W8 (when it started happening) and now W8.1, so I did collect a lot of 'junk'.
Stopped AutoStarting anything I didn't really need or could manually start later.

Outlook Calendar shows start time in the monthly view but not the end time. I have right clicked on the calendar gone to Other Settings and checkmarked "Show End Time" but the end time still does not show. How do I make the start and end time show in the monthly view?

Answer:Outlook Calendar shows start time in the monthly view but not the end time.

You did not say what version of Outlook.

I am using Outlook 2007 and note the same as you - only the start time is displayed. I note on mine, if the end time was displayed, there would be little to no room for the Subject title so for me, I would rather have the appointment title instead of the end time. I think in a crowded field (as the monthly view can be) that is best for most people.

I don't see a fix for you. However, for a workaround, with Outlook being in "focus", if you hover over the appointment with your mouse, then the stop time is also displayed in a bubble.

I have quite a conundrum. My Outlook calendar is set to a start time of 7am to and end time of 3pm Monday through Friday. I have turned on auto accept meetings and turned on auto decline conflicting meetings. This all works great. It has declined and added new meetings and all is working wonderfully.... EXCEPT one MAJOR issue.

The auto accept accepts during times that are not my standard work hours. If I set a start time of 7am and an end time of 3pm why is my Outlook accepting meetings at 12pm and 8pm and on weekends?

Hi, Have any of you experienced something similar to what I am seeing today? After editing an word document in office 2007 for not more than 30 minutes, after a keypress, word locks up and only recovery that works is to kill the process. I updated all drivers from lenovo's update site, and I checked that microsoft office 2007 is completely up-to-date. It has happened 4 times for me today, and is really tiresome  Thanks,Spip

Basically, I have some people that would jump at the chance to hop onto an Administrator's account due to the restrictions they have. That being said, even if I leave my notebook alone for 5 minutes, I want the darn thing locked.

Just due to the fact I personally like a couple of the new Vista screensavers, is there a way to both lock and immediately start the screensaver?

Answer:Lock Vista & Start Screensaver At Same Time?

Not sure why the screensaver would play into it, but whatever.

Set the screensaver to require a password on resume (even if the screensaver doesn't kick in automagically this is the proper setting), and press Windows+L anytime to lock the workstation immediately.

Hope this helps...

So, I have searched the internet for what I am trying to find but the only thing that comes up is how to add a timer that will turn the display off after a certain time WHILE the lock-screen is on. That's not what I am asking.

What I am asking is if there is a way to auto-lock the computer after a certain amount of time. I know you can activate a screensaver after a certain amount of time, and then once touched again it will show up at the lockscreen. That's not what I want. I have the lock-screen setup to play a slideshow of pictures that I want to play when not in use. (This is a 58" touchscreen display that is used to interact with a powerpoint presentation in a public area). If I leave the desktop screensaver option on, it'll turn off the lockscreen slides. Why does that matter if the slideshow is running you may be asking? Well, I have a script on the desktop of this computer that will lock the computer with a single click. This is because when someone is done doing a presentation, I want them to be able to lock the screen immediately so that when they walk away someone can't just walk by and start messing with a wide-open computer.

So, idk if this is possible or if someone has a better solution but i'd appreciate any input.

I have 2 week old HP pavalion notebook pc with pre-installed Windows 8.1 64bit single language. Untill few days back, when i presses windows+L the lock screen would pop up immediately. But now whenever i do it, it takes time to lock.

I clocked it and it took approx 30-35 sec to lock. I am not sure what might be the problem or if this is  al all normal behaviour. Have to look at 'Please wait' screen for 30 sec to get lock screen image.

Kindly help,
Thanks.

Not very descriptive, but so the computer goes.

Lets say I am updating a blog. And I refresh a number of times, once for each post.

Not always the same amount of refreshes, but eventually I get the spinner upper right, and the status bar says either 'Done' or 'Stopped'.

If I check email, first time fine. I close email. Over the next 2-5 hours, I open email again, close again, open again, Mozilla Thunderbird newest version, and it says cannot connect. The number of times it will work and then stop, varies.

To fix either, I reboot, no need to do anything else, and they work fine again.

I get the impression that if I have to connect to anything outside my home computer, this occurs. I haven't tried all software, but it happens with email, both browsers, and connecting to Everquest.

So it isn't just one type of site/server. Just anything outside my home computer. I'm the only user and admin.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

Please help me. I am running the latest Internet Download Manager and have scanned my PC for rootkits, malware and viruses with many different sources and found 0 infections.

I am getting this exact error.........

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: file:///C:/Users/A6/AppData/Roaming/IDM/idmmzcc5/components/idmhelper5.js:91"

this locks up my PC for several minutes and eventually lets me click stop script, but it returns again over and over.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled IDM twice but no cure.

I like having my monitor power off soon after activity stops. Currently, I have it powering off after 2 minutes of inactivity. I am also very big on locking my PC when I step away. So, I also have the screen saver kick in after 2 minutes. (Of course, I never even see a screen saver because the monitor is off. And, in fact, my screen saver is set to "None". So this setting essentially means the PC is set to lock after 2 minutes.)

However, what often happens is that I'm sitting at the PC, and the monitor turns off, but I don't want it to lock. I move the mouse, and it's locked--even if I intervened within a second or two.

With Windows XP, I used to be able to use the ScreenSaverGracePeriod registry value to work around this. I've tried this with my Windows 8 system, but it doesn't work. I have tried using ScreenSaverGracePeriod as both REG_SZ and as DWORD.

Is there any way to delay the PC from locking after the monitor powers off by just a few seconds? I know I can have the monitor power off after 2 minutes but set the screen saver to 3 minutes, but I'd like to reduce the delay to a matter of seconds, if that is possible.

Answer:Delay the time between monitor off and workstation lock?

Hello Crosspatch,

I suppose one way would be to disable screen saver password protection to prevent it from basically locking the PC and asking for a password when you resume from screen saver.
Screen Saver Password Protection -Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums
The only drawback is that you would then need to lock the PC when you do want it to be password protected when unlocking. If you like, the desktop context menu added by either tutorial below can help make it easier to lock the PC.

I am running Windows 10 on my two home computers (laptop and desktop), and it drives me crazy that the console locks after 5 minutes and we have to enter a PIN to wake it back up. My wife has pretty much stopped using the laptop because she can't stand it. I had figured out how to disable it in Windows 8.1, but it appears they removed the option to add that to the settings in Windows 10. I have been searching the interwebs for days to try and find a solution posted somewhere and I am really surprised by the lack of complaints about this. I can't believe we're the only ones who find it maddeningly annoying. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about what to do?
Thanks,

I frequently am logging in and out of my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have a good, secure password that I use and because I'm human, sometimes I mistype it. The issue is that on these occasions, I am locked out for a good 30 seconds from attempting to
login, even for the second time.

I can understand the time delay if it were say, my 5th or 6th attempt, but for one attempt this is entirely too long. How do I go about significantly reducing this, or ideally removing it?

Thank you very much!

Just recently began having Word, Excel, and Powerpoint [Office 2003] lock up if I try to choose a file to open or a picture file to insert, or do a file save, etc using the "Look in:" and "Save in:" drop-down menus. The programs just hour-glasses there forever with no error messages. I Have the latest updates to Office 2003. I uninstallled the 908531 windows security update of 4/11/06 and instaled the newer version of 4/25/06, WindowsXP-KB908531-v2-x86-ENU.exe.

I've uninstalled anything releated to HP printers that I can find [we have a network shared HP Officejet 7210]. Device manager looks clean.

System is a P4 2.4 GHz, 1 gig ram pc. Same thing has happened on a second pc on my home network! Scans with AVG, Spyware blaster, Adaware, Spybot S&D, and SuperAntispyware turn up nothing.

Ran Office 2003 Repair, said it did, but did not help this issue.

Hello All,

I have a challange for all you out there. I have attached a blown up screenshot of two MS Word .doc files that have this weird black & white clock icon on lower left hand side it looks like a octogon clock icon, but I have never seen it before. That small black & white icon is on all documents with the following extentions (.xls, .doc, .txt, .rtf) there could be more, but I haven't found it.

Now here is the problem....all of the files with that little icon do not open. it locks up and I have to close the file....sometimes forcing windows to do it form since it isn't closing on it's own.

Anyone seen this?

Hello,
First I want to point out that the "Play a slide show on the lock screen" is not the option that I'm looking for, since it remembers the original image that was set for the lock screen after I log back in, or restart the computer.

I am looking for an option that will always load a random picture from a certain folder to appear as my lock screen, every time the lock screen appears.
So for example, I turn on the computer and I see Image #1. I log into my account and after a few minutes I lock the computer. When I lock the computer, I want to see Image #7 as the lock screen. Now I restart the computer. Windows shuts down and starts up again. I am now at the lock screen again. I want to see Image #4. (The reason why those image numbers are like that is because they're random).

So does anyone know of an option in Windows that can do that, or a 3rd party program that can do that?

Thanks so much

Answer:Set A Random Image Every Time The Lock Screen Appears

It costs $1.99 but it sounds like exactly what you asked for:

As the title says, I couldn't find it anywhere, but I was looking to have it so that after a set period of time Windows will automatically lock out the user (me). I'm not talking about having a screensaver come up, but I've seen it before, where it basically looks like the logon screen of XP, where you have to click on your name to go back into Windows, and type in your password again.

Can someone direct me to where I set this option? I thought it'd be in the standard haunts, but I don't see it anywhere.

Thanks!

Answer:Having windows lock-out after time (requiring password) but not screensaver

I've not seen this done outside the screensaver options, but this link has another option.

Reading more, I think what you really want is the screensaver option, but use the logon.scr with password enabled.

Fan IssueI've cleaned my laptop sometime this month after about two years of use. Popped it open, blew everything, popped it back. I saw a post before posting this about removing the battery before cleaning so i'm considering going back and doing that. I usually keep it running in high performance because I use it for gaming. Core/CPU usage is almost never above 10%, currently sitting at 2%-4%. Memory is usually high because I only have a 500GB SSD, currently at 58%. The other stats (disk, network, and GPU), sit at 0 (although GPU will boost to about 60% when gaming). Currently, I have it in balanced mode and set the maximum core usage to 40% and it's still going strong. Any suggestions?  Gaming IssueAlso on a side note, if anyone can assist me with a gaming issue I'm having. My computer has a 960 GTX, i74720GQ @ 2.6GHz, and 500 GB SSD (samsung evo--upgraded from 1TB HD) and I'm having issues with my FPS in-game. It locks at 30 or FPS across all games. I do have two GPU's (integrated and 960 GTX) and have always used the GTX as the primary source, uncapped in-game graphics, limited background interference (services, programs, etc.) and possibly other things I can't think of but cannot release the in-game FPS cap. Even when settings are at the lowest settings. In previous times, if I were to uncap, it'd reach above 60 easily consistently but now when it's uncapped, it never goes above 60. One might ask what changed? After upgrading from HDD to SSD, I had to reset my ... Read more

The whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?

Answer:Windows 10 stuck at lock screen for a long time

Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza

Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?

You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type

powercfg -h off

This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing

powercfg -h on

After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

My son has Dell Dimension computer running Windows Vista. He has recently had problems in that when he uses Word it appears that the Caps lock is on all the time. When he comes out of this and goes to his desktop if he tries to select another programme all the programmes on the desktop are highlighted. He runs Norton and it is not showing any problems. He has tried System restore and restore last known good configuration with no avail. Is this a virus and if so what caan be done.

Answer:Caps lock on all the time and selecting all programmes from, desktop

This may be a stupid question, but I've got to ask it... He does know how to turn caps lock off, right? If he's tried this and it still doesn't work, your description of the symptoms makes me think that there's something wrong with the caps lock key that's making the keyboard think it's being pressed. (I say that because, if you click on an item and then click on another item with the shift key pressed, the PC will select all the items between the two items clicked on - which is what seems to be happening when he clicks on shortcuts on the desktop.)

Hi,

apologies if this has been covered before somewhere else.
I am trying to remove the time and date from the lock screen. having searched I have seen several customisation options but the only one that actually covered this specifically was to make a change in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SystemProtectedUserData\S-1-5-21-x-x-x-x\AnyoneRead\LocaleInfo

this brought about issues relating to administrator accounts which seem to be a common problem with windows 8.1.
nearly all of the solutions were not available to me but I finally found I could make the change in regedit by changing ownership of the file and changing the format of the time to a space. unfortunately the date is still showing.
how can I remove the date?

further, just to clarify, does the original account I signed in with have full administrator privileges? are they disabled and need to be enabled?
ive seen the tutorial on the built in elevated administrator account, this didn't work on its own either. do some files require a change of ownership to be altered regardless of which account you are signed in with including the administrator account?

any help appreciated

thanks

Brad

In Win7x64, Google email in the form of HTML source becomes mangled in Office Outlook (which I've substituted for incompatible Outlook Express).

To replace Outlook Express, I first tried Thunderbird, and then Eudora. Only Office Outlook, which is part of MS Office, had all the functions and options of Outlook Express that I like, plus formatting and organization features.

I could use Web Mail with Gmail or ATT-Yahoo, to which I have access, but I prefer getting my mail to my PC and keeping it there.

Had this error on a user's pc. Researched it here on the forum.
Found another thread with someone suggesting to use the following command to get it going:
Start->run..then type the following -> "Outlook.exe /resetnavpane"

This worked! The other thread has since been closed, but I wanted to reply and say WHY my users outlook suddenly started throwing out this error, because no one on the other thread was able to.

Turns out that my user had "accidentally" dragged their personal folder (containing 1000's of emails) into the "outbox".
Since the "outbox" folder is one to be used while an email is in the sending phase, it basically just shut down and wouldn't open for anything.

Luckily the command was able to get Outlook open and I was able to investigate what the user did to cause it.

Hope this info can help someone else.

So I just installed Windows 8 on my system, and it was all going smoothly, until I got to installing Steam. After I clicked through a few menus, Steam finally started to install, but the progress bar never went up. If I tried to do anything else (Open task manager, stop the installation, etc...) everything would just lock up and I couldn't do anything.

At this point my only option was to restart, so I did just that. After about an hour of waiting for Windows to boot back up, I gave up and tried to do a system repair. This failed too, so I just re-installed Windows 8. I tried this 4 times. The first few times I thought it was because I might have had incorrect chipset drivers installed, but even when I did get the correct ones, it had the same issue.

At this point my only thought is that maybe I should do all available windows updates before I start installing steam? Otherwise, I'm out of ideas for getting this to work. It's also looking like this may be some sort of hardware failure, possibly ram?

So has anyone else experienced this, or do you have advice?

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 ghz
Graphics card: HIS ATI Radeon 7770, 1 GB ram
Ram: 2 x 4GB(2 sets) G.Skill Ripjaws X series, total 16 GB

Answer:Installing Steam causes windows to lock up, long boot time

I have Windows 8 on my PC since arrival on MSDN and since then my Steam client works fine.
But yet difference is that my Win 8 is upgraded with latest updates.

The 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes screen time out is useless to me.
Anyone else feels my frustration? Does anyone know if Win10 will fix this?

Lumia 630 has that option already.

I am not quite sure where to start...as it is not a hardware issue, so me mentioning the hardware would more than likely not make the difference.

A few weeks ago, after a security update came down from Windows update, my home setup mysteriously started password locking when the remaining idle for a period of time. I do not have any other user accounts on my computer, just the Administrator account that I normally use. This same thing happens on my networked office computers, even if you aren't an administrator.

I have made sure that my screensaver is off, and I have also even messed around the power options, making sure that it was not the "one wake-up ask for password option."

I am not quite sure what caused this function to turn on, perhaps it was the security update, perhaps it was not.

Does anybody now how to turn off this function?

Answer:Vista will password lock when computer is idle for a period of time

Hello,

Right click on your Desktop and click on Personalise. Click Screensaver in the new window. In the Screensaver window, uncheck "On resume display logon screen", click OK and the problem should be fixed!

I've not seen this problem before:

Outlook 2003 messages are 8 hours ahead of my PC's time. The obvious places to look time zone adjust for PC, and again in Outlook, Tools>>Options>>Calendar Options>>Time Zone. Both are set correctly. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Dear AllI am getting the above error when I try to open Outlook 2007 on Windows XP. There is a quick fix to this which is to run 'outlook.exe /resetnavpane', which I find from a quick internet search. However, this is a one time fix, and I am having to do it every single time that I boot up. Is there a more permanent fix to this problem - hopefully the fact that the above fix works will identify the root of the problem. If anyone knows this and can help I would be very grateful. Thanks AdamEDIT: Moved to more appropriate forum

Answer:Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook, Cannot open the Outlook window

Is that the error message in its entirety?Could you provide a link to the outlook.exe /resetnavpane fix so we can look at it and see exactly what it does?

Hi,

Another day with Windows 10 and another new problem lol.

Using Outlook 2013 or 2016 in Windows 10 I have found it is not possible to send e-mails from an Outlook.com account.
I have tried using ActiveSync and SMTP which do authenticate and show all e-mails (inc. new ones). The problem arises when I try to send a new e-mail - in Windows 10 I simply cannot get it to work.
I have confirmed this problem with 2 other Windows 10 PC's and have ended up rolling back to Windows 8.1 to get around the problem for now.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Thanks

Answer:Windows 10, Office Outlook & Outlook.com - Unable to send e-mails

Same problem, all mail received but not able to send from any account. Also not able to access laptop running 10 from local network. As soon as I rolled back to 8.1 all worked again.

The good features in 10 are not much good if I cannot communicate with anyone.

I'm using Windows 7/Office 2007. I just installed Office 2007 on a brand new HP Laptop running W7 64bit. When click on a URL in an email, I get the following error message, "MICROSOFT OFFICE OUTLOOK. This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". This also happened when clicking on an "Unsubscribe" link in a different email. Can someone please tell me how to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.
