Problems installing Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Edition on raid

Question: Problems installing Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Edition on raid

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I count on your support.
I am currently trying to install Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Edition using Windows Deployment Services on two discs 136.12gb raid 1, but this will not let me because it says I need at least 150GB HDD to proceed with the installation, the same method is applied in virtualized machines in hyperv and Proxmox and does not throw me any error. (see attached image)
The server details are as follows:
DELL poweredge r610 128gb ramintel xeon 2.67ghz 6 core
4 hdd en raid 0 each independent:hdd 931gbhdd 931gbssd 446.42 gbhdd 1862.50 gb
2 hdd both raid 1:hdd 136.12 gbhdd 136.12 gb
I count on your support.
Thankful in advance.
Best regards.

Preferred Solution: Problems installing Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Edition on raid

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I went to install Windows Server 2016 on my Gigabyte 7PESH3 system, which is housed in a Supermicro 4U or pedestal SC747-1400B-TX chassis and I still cannot get an Operating System installed with this system. When I attempt to do so during create partition with the Windows installer after loading the driver by clicking load driver, browse, USB Drive(C, Windows 10 and Server 2016 Raid Driver Folder, starport64, and either Areca Starport-64 SATA RAID Host Adapter or Areca Virtual S/8I RAID Driver it still can't find the drives.

I have a similar problem with Linux except with Linux it's supposed to automatically find the driver on the USB flash drive for the most part and it can't because I don't know where to put it and no Linux distro tells you how or where to put it in the documentation, but instead just tells you how to do software RAID and that doesn't help. Also, everyone on here just tell me RAID just complicates things and that's not helping either. Therefore, basically I have about a 3000+ dollar 4U server that I can't use or get any use out of because I can't get a server operating system installed on it. Can anyone help or do I need to try Microsoft's forum about Windows Server 2016 and the appropriate Linux distro forum for help with the appropriate Linux distro.

Answer:Why can't Windows Server 2016 find the hard drives after loading RAID card driver?

Is it a nice new shiny driver from the manufacturers' website or off a disk that came in the box?

Sata raid is fairly new to me and I am having a problem installing server 2003. What are the proper steps I should take to start the install.

System is as follows

P4 HT
MSi 865PE Neo2-P mb onboard RAID (Intel ICH5R)
dual channel ram
2 80gb sata hd's

I can install and the bios recongizes hard drives attached to the IDE inteface. My problem starts when I try to go to the SATA drives. I enable SATA in the bios then reboot and the system just hangs. I assume I also need to configure the RAID but can never get to the RAID prompt because the machine hangs at bootup after I enable SATA.

You enabled sata in the bios (changed boot order also?) but did you ever load any of the raid drivers? these come on a seperate disk

Hello everyone:
As my post title implies I've got a Dell Precision T3500 loaded with Windows Server 2012 R2 Data Center and I'm looking into the ins and outs of doing RAID on it.
You might have guessed, I'm no expert at this and am looking at building this as more of a learning exercise than anything else.
My system runs as is with no issues at all at this point, just fyi.
Does anyone know what direction I could go from here that would be productive?
After trying to install an unsupported HBA (LSIMegaraid 888elp), and having had my lunch handed to me, I sure would appreciate any insights or perhaps some proven solution that I've not been able to find up to this point.
Thanks!

Answer:T61 - Windows Server 2012 Datacenter

Hello,

From looking at the system requirements here on Microsoft's web site, it looks like the T61 meets the requirements for running Windows Server 2012, but that's largely because Microsoft doesn't seem differentiate between requirements for the Foundation, Essentials, Standard and Datacenter editions.

Personally, I'd suggest going with the biggest, fastest 2012-vintage (or newer) laptop that I could find, such as a W520 or W530.

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

Hello and thanks for looking in to this.

I recently bought a new computer to use for all sorts of hosting. Specs are following:
Intel Quad 2.99 GHz
6gb RAM
1 tb harddrive
Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit
fibre/ethernet cable

So after using it for hosting for a while, I realized that I could need Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) for other people using it. I couldn't get it to work, so I looked it up. Apparently the version of windows I had doesn't support it, so I decided to try the evaluation version of Windows Server 2008 Datacenter 64-bit.

I managed to dual boot it along with 7 just fine, but problems started revealing themselves quickly upon startup.
The first thing I saw in the "initial configuration tasks" was: "Network adapters: None detected".
I tried reconnecting my cable to the computer, with no success. I also tried "add new hardware" through control panel to add network adapters, with no success. The adapters shows up as faulty, due to being unable to load drivers.

Out of my arena of knowledge, I can't do so much more about this issue. But I need windows server 2008 datacenter up and running.

My question is, can anyone help me, or guide me step by step for setting up any network connection at all? I'm available through msn, phone, skype or these forums. Although skype or phone is prefered.

Thank you ever so much!

-Adrian

This is my home server I use for DLNA, backup, main storage, and streaming:
Windows server 2008 R2
Intel Core i5 3570k
asus P8z77-i Deluxe
4x Samsung f4 2tb
LSI megaraid 9260-4i
8gb Samsung 30nm ddr3
40gb Intel 320 SSD(boot)
60gb Corsair Force GT(windows server 8)
500gb Seagate Momentus(temp install files)

Originally the server had x4 635 amd processor etc and I had a perc 5i card in there and my server worked great, I had no issues at all nor when I upgraded again to i7 2600k server and threw down a megaraid lsi card in there. I was able to transfer with ease and got extremely high copy rates etc. and of course streaming was flawless.

Now that I've upgrade my system(just a week ago) I've been stressing on trying to get my system to what I had before. I CANNOT copy ANY files from or to the server through mapped drives which I mainly use to access the server itself; streaming, storage, etc. I'll get a copy popup and it'll transfer at 16.kbs and even though the file was 1meg> it simply freezes.

Accessing the mapped drive has been a nightmare, requiring me to wait minutes before being able to enter folders or even open up files becomes worst; I cannot even stream a 7meg Mp3 at all. Before I streamed my entire library of music directly off the server and had no issues at all.

I've tried: swapping routers(wndr3700-r6300) both gigabit, cat 5e/6 cable swaps, disabled netsh autotuninglevel etc, reinstalling windows server, and updating all hardware etc.

Thing to note:

Arkuatic welcome to the windows 7 forums.

Something leads me to question....

"I had to force install gigabit drivers as intel decided decided to not have the 82579v 2008 r2 driver support.(this is my biggest concern "

It could be the drivers not working properly. Did you try a gigabit ethernet card and disable the on-board one?

Hello
This is my first thread

When i install sql server 2000 standard edition i have a message
" Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition Server Component is not supported on this operating system only client components will be available for installation"

Hence I cannot install properly. I installed only the client componets. Thereafter when I went through Enterprise Manager and tried to establish a connection, I failed. It said server does not exist.

What to do now?

I found out that if one has sql server 2000 standard editon the prerequisties are
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, or Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

I have windows xp professional version on which i am installing sql server.

But i have seen many persons who have installed sql server standard edition in windows xp pro.
They downloaded something(probably a service pack) and went into regedit

Kindly let me know what do download and what to do after going inside regedit.

Thanks

So i've got my new computer actually booting. Dunno how.... it just started working . So i go configure the RAID 0 to 64k stripe size. Then i go to install windows. I install it quickly so i can then go and use partion magic in windows. I put 3 primary partions for my games, C: and programs. Then a load of logical ones for other stuff. I also changed the cluster sizes of all the partions. I put C: on a 16k cluster size and all the other partions were on different cluster sizes. I also set C: partion as active. So i format and do all that using partion magic. It does it all correctly. Then i go to install windows again. All goes fine until first boot into windows when i get "0x00000024" error to do with NTFS.sys and it says to do i scan disk but i can't boot into windows in anyway to do this. I've tried many things. Is it due to having too many primary partions or is it an actuall hardware problem. Which i doubt as it works with a single partion.
Please help A.S.A.P.

Going on my 11th hour of trying to get this to work. This is x64 by the way. Needs to be 64 bit.

I've tried the Sun Installation Assistant, I've tried right from the Server 2008 DVD, and Server 2008 R2 DVD, nothing works.

Most common point of failure: Copying, Expanding and Installing features/updates completes, server restarts, immediately after restart I get the "Clock Interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval" BSOD.

Before this error the Server would simply lock up before it finished expanding files so I updated the BIOS and ILOM to the latest versions and now I'm stuck again with the above error.

Am I missing something? I have tried loading RAID drivers from my updated Tools and Drivers CD and from a floppy even though it only finds the LSI RAID card that isn't even in use. My RAID config is Adaptec mirrored 2x 73Gb SAS drives. According to all documentation, no drivers are even NEEDED for Server 2008.

Called Sun support but they can't get back to me until tomorrow morning. I kind of need this fixed now though.

Thanks in advanced !

Starting a migration from SBS 2011 to Server 2012 R2 Datacenter.

The migration doc says to "run the Migration Preparation Tool on the Source Server". I've found one link online stating that when going from SBS 2011 to Server 2012 R2 this step isn't necessary - but I've yet to find any other proof of this.

If I am supposed to run the prep tool, where the heck is it??? Because it's not in the listed location on the ISO from MS:
2.Open Windows Explorer, browse to the \support\tools folder of the DVD, and then double-click the sourcetool.msi file.Click to expand...

Ideas?

We have a 2008 R2 Citrix server that shows -6 GMT (correct) when we RDP into the server on the same administrator account. We have been having problems with the server rebooting at the wrong time. When the datacenter techs login into the same administrator account, for them it shows that the timezone is set to -5 GMT (incorrect).

Same user account, same server, different timezones. Could someone explain this?

Hello.

I have Vista Home edition 32 bit and I am running sql server 2008 so I can study sql server 2008. I'm trying to go through a book and one of the lessons is about clustering. I need Virtual server 2005 for it and I know it's not supported on Vista Home. From googling the web some people have managed it. However from following their instructions I was not successful. Virtual server is not supported on windows 7 either so there's no point in upgrading. Any ideas what I should do next?

I have an older server, manufacturer unknown, that was running Windows 2000 server with all the latest service packs. It was being used as a Citrix server in our environment. The server was put in before my time here and I saw that somebody had changed the C: to a M: We have since taken the server off the network and plan on using it as an internal file server. For some reason, I am unable to install a clean copy of Windows 2000 or 2000 advanced server on it. I have tried to wipe the disk clean with DBAN and KILLDISK and WIPEDRIVE but all just hang on the system.

I have a Windows 98 startup disk that I was able to boot from and ran an FDISK. I was also able to format the C:. When I am in DOS and switch to the C: I type in Dir and it comes up with no files found. I checked the partitions in FDISK and it shows the Primary Partition as being active and shows the correct amount of disk space. Whenever I try to install Windows 2000 Advanced Server the system goes through the process of checking the files and gets to the point to begin installation. When I try to install the operating system, the next screen comes up saying it cannot find the hard drive. This is very frustrating as I know the C: is there as I can see it from DOS and it looks to be configured properly.

Is there something I am missing?

I appreciate your help!

I am able to load the cd and create the partition, format the partition to ntfs and Windows copies the files. When the computer reboots it "loops" back to the initial setup. I ran chkdsk /r and found no issues. I zeroed out the drive. I even went so far as to remove the keyboard in case of a stuck key. The bios has the cd rom set as the last boot device. Has anyone ever encountered this before? Any suggestions on how to resolve the issue?

I want to upgrade a client's peer-to-peer network to an actual 2003 domain. I am comparing Server 2003 Standard Edition with Small Business Server. I thought that Small Business Server was Standard Edition with a few extras like Exchange Server, which I don't need. However, SBS is quite a bit less expensive than Standard, which surprises me. I haven't yet found a side-by-side comparison on Microsoft's website and was hoping some of you could help.

Why is SBS cheaper? What's missing that is included in Standard Edition? Which version should I recommend to my client? It's a small network that's unlikely to ever grow beyond 5 clients, if that's any help.

One important point is that we need full Terminal Services functionality. Are there any limitations on Terminal Services with SBS? I plan to set this client up with some remote access via Terminal Services Advanced Client.

As the title reads for the past day or so i've been trying to set up a RAID 0 on my computer.
So far i have the raid drivers on a floppy disk and 2 HD set up. The only problem that i'm having is finding the BIOS setting about enabling RAID controllers. I couldn't find any words with raid in them, but i did enable IDE controllers. Also from reading on about going into the RAID bios settings by hitting F10 is it? i couldn't seem to get that working too.

So in summary my 2 problems are :

and

I seem to be having a few probs with the computer recently!

I have AVG Free Edition and it decided that the email scanner wasn't functioning properly this morning. Messed about with it and decided to uninstall it and then reinstall the latest edition off the Grisoft website.

Unfortunately I have made a big mistake as I now have no virus protection at all. I have tried reinstalling AVG about 4 times now and I keep getting the same error message:

Local machine: installation failed

Installation:

Error: Action failed for file avgamsvr.exe: starting service....

Access is denied. (5)

Does anyone know what this could mean?

Thanks

Answer:Problems with installing AVG Free Edition

Not sure about the error, but try installing Antivir instead, its better than AVG.

k so im running a new comp, heres the specs:

p4p800-e delux
saphire 9600 256mb
p4 3.0e
512 kingston
maxtor 80gb 8mb buffer SATA (x2)

so i install xp running normal sata no issues, but when i try to set it up running raid 0, it goes through the xp install, and no matter what sata and raid driver i use, the install says it cannot detect any hard discs when xp normally gets to the part where you choose the drive your installing onto.

i setup raid on the bios according to the instructions that came with the mobo, and have everything pluged in correctly, the 2 drives were setup as one raid0 drive, everything shows correctly in the bios and the raid configuration.

ive tried every sata and raid driver on the cd that came with the mobo, and a few off the net, but they all give the same problem, me and a couple of my friends are pretty sure that i just dont have the right driver, but were not sure exatley.

can anyone tell me what im doing wrong?

Answer:SATA and RAID 0 problems installing XP

Right at the beginning of the XP install (where there's a blue screen, and a whole bunch of device files are loaded) there's a message at the bottom of the screen along the lines of "If there are any third party RAID drivers you would like to install, hit "some key". I can't remember exactly what it says, but are you doing that?

Hi all,

I'm running Windows XP (SP2) and I'm trying to clear out my computer of junk to make some room until I can afford a second Larger hard drive. I had noticed that the Sims Deluxe Edition was taking up LOTS of room (about 3G) and the children don't play it that often any more so I wanted to delete it..............easier said than done......... I originally managed to delete alot of it (it then became 63MB) but I just can't get it off my system.

When I try to delete this it asks for disc 2. When I insert disc 2 it says its the wrong disc, so I insert disc 1 and it carrys on with deleting. It will then stop on 25% and will go no further.

I know it's not taking alot of room up now, but when I defrag it sits on about 6% for hours (due to it going through all the crap on Sims)

Anyone got any ideas of how to get the whole thing off my system without having to wipe everything.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Misfit

I am in college course once again, This time for a BS in Computer Science Majoring in Cybersecurity, and minoring in Ethical hacking.

I have got axcess to Windows server 2016, now when i go to download I find these three options

Data Center

Essentials

and standard.

Know last time I ran windows server, was on the 2008 and I played around from blade servers to the dell big boxes, even slapped it on to some desktops.
I have a system which I was planning on making in to a server, it is a MOBO taken out of a HP 110-023W which Specifications can be found here

I am Wanting to know, if the system would work, because I have a single CPU and dual cores upon that and windows 2016 says minimum 8 core.
If it wont work I have other plans for the beast.... A PF sence BOX.

Next year we'll be moving all of our servers to VMWare hosts, and since we're still running Server 2008 I'm interested in upgrading the OS as well. At the moment I have some other enterprise software to test, and assuming it's supported I'd like to try it on Server 2016.

Is anyone using Server 16 in a production environment? Any issues or concerns?

I have a new pc, with a raid setup, one small ssd drive for fast booting, and a 2 tb drive
when I try to install win 8 via the "upgrade" method, it seems to install, but at the end, i get the failed to install message.
its a dell xps one 27, and only 3 weeks old; I see a bunch of upgraded files and drivers on the dell site for win 8, but I assume you dont install those until after you have win 8 installed...of course, that is a moot issue until I get it installed!
I dont want to "break" my raid apart just to install win 8, so is there another way?
should I try and boot from the dvd I burned from the iso, and install it that way? And, if I do that, does it go on the small ssd drive or on the 2tb drive? Anyone familiar with this setup on a dell?

thanks!

I am having lots of trouble installing WindowsXP Media Center Edition. I had similar problems putting this OS on another machine, but finally got a good install and it is now running well.

The second system I am trying to put this on has an AMD 3000+ 64-bit Socket 939 processor (Venice core), on a Chaintech S1689 motherboard, with a pair of Kingston 512MB RAM 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) unbuffered dual channel memory modules for 1GB total RAM, with a Chaintech SA5500T2 Geforce FX5500 256MB DDR AGP 4X/8X video card.

I have tried several installs, and here are some of the error messages I get:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: setupdd.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

Then, toward the bottom of the screen it says:

"STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF8000000, 0x00000000, 0xF77D03F7, ox00000000)
setupdd.sys Ė Address F77D03F7 base at F7794000, Date Stamp 41107c8f"

Also, when setup is loading files, several of them come up with:

"Setup cannot copy the file: rio8drv.sys" etc., etc.

On this last attempt to load MCE there were at least 20, maybe 30 files that came up with that message, and I had to use the ESC key to get by them (after retrying by hitting the ENTER key several times to no avail)

I have used two separate sets of original, legitimate CDs and I'm just getting lots of problems. I've got several other sets of error ... Read more

I am currently having an issue were Windows 7 computers can not connect to Server 2016 (domain). Right away I get a "The logon attempt failed".
I know that user information is correct, because I can connect using any Windows 10 computer. I have tried this from multiple Windows 7 computers, they all give the same error. I don't have any problems at all with Windows 10.

So, this seems to be isolated to Windows 7.
Has anyone seen this or know how to get around this issue?

I appreciate your help!

Just bought new Spectre x360 convertible computer with Windows 2016. Left computer idle for a few minutes (15) and returned to screen saver.  Clicked on the enter button to get to password screen and entered password.  After entering it, the wheel of death started and kept spinning.  When I tried to turn the computer off, I may have accidentally hit stand by mode.  Then the screen started flashing.  I quickly unplugged everything.  It did come back on and I didn't lose anything.   What should I do so that this doesn't happen again?

Historically I've used the following syntax with NetMon to determine which switch/switchport each of my server interfaces are connected to:

nmcap.exe /network "<interfacename>" /DisableLocalOnly /capture SNAP.EtherType == 0x2000 /StopWhen /TimeAfter 2 min /file "<filename>.cap"

With MMA, I can just do a filter for LLDP, and get the same information, at least on my Windows 10 laptop that is.  When I run a capture either locally on a Windows 2016 server, or remotely against
a Windows 2016 server there are no LLDP packets captured.

Am I doing something wrong?

I am trying to add Windows 10 clients to Windows Server essentials 2016. It seem that in order for the server to see the clients I must the clients join the server server Domain. (Currently they are in a workgroup).

It looks like one has to change the Windows10 clients to access the WSE-2016 DNS. So in windows 10 I go to networks, bring up the adaptor setting. Bring up "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IvP4) and instead of "Obtain the DNS address automatically" change it to always get the DNS address on the WSE-2016 (found with ipconfig).
Then within Windows I use ?System?, ?about?, and Join the server DOMAIN. It now works. The client can now see the Server domain.
I can then see the Server files and the server can see the Windows 10 shared files.
There are still problems however.
When I reboot the Windows 10 client. I have a brand new user screen with only some of my original desktop icons showing. Do I have to essentially rebuild up everything on my desktop again!
Question: Is there not a way to have my original desktop appear when I am joined to the Domain.
Second, since there will be times when the server is off I used the router static DNS IP address as the alternative address in the above dialog box of the Windows10 clients. Seems to work since the client can access the internet even with the WSE 2016 off.
Here is my second question. I have a few home laptops as well. If I force the DNS to the server what happens when I travel. ... Read more

Answer:Adding Windows 10 Clients to Windows Server Essentials 2016

When Windows client computers are not joined to a domain they use the local SAM database to authenticate to the client computer. When the computer is domain joined you are using an AD user account to log into the computer. These accounts are going to have different SIDs as well as local profiles on the system. If you log into the computer with an account that has local admin access, you can simply move or copy the data from the local user account folder into the domain account user folder. The user folders inherit permissions from the root C:\Users\<username> so they should automatically gain access to the newly copied data.

I have just succeeded in hooking my Windows 10 client to Windows Server Essentials 2016. To do this I had to switch the W10 from a Workgroup to Domain setup.
All works fine except most of the desktop items originally on the client icons disappeared. Worse when I launce things like Outlook, Word etc. I have to initialize it from scratch.
How does one get all the settings, desktop icons etc. to re-appear on this new account that is now chanced from a Workgroup to a Domain setting.
I am an administrator (and only user) on both the W10 and WSE-2016. I see under users my original name on the W10/Workgroup and a new name. The new name does not have many files in it. I assume that?s the problem. But when I copy stuff from the old name folder across the programs are still not initialized correctly.

The second technical preview of Windows Server 2016 will be launching in May as the first one nears its expiration date.

Windows Server is being developed and targeted for an early 2016 release, however, the latest and greatest preview builds haven't been released to the public by Microsoft since October 2014. At the same time, Windows 10 builds have been released regularly to Windows Insiders.

Well for the past hour the percentage remains at 0 percent. I am stuck because this happen last Oct and after 6 hours I had to do a hard boot. I am at a lost. I have an Dell All-in-one touch screen computer.

Thanks

So, I recently installed Office 2016 and Visual Studio Enterprise 2017, which I need for work and school. Before this I had just installed the Creators Update a few days ago and all is working fine. I searched for updates today, a bunch came up for Office but none for VS. Now, over 3 hours later, it's still at 0% downloaded. I would estimate the download size to be around 1GB, but checking C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution (where Windows stores updates) only shows around 80MB used space. I checked several times and it hasn't really increased. Task Manager shows virtually 0% network usage, a bit here and there, but very sporadic and nothing big. I have access to a business class fiber optics connection here at my business, so speed/bandwidth isn't the issue. I do have a firewall but I have downloaded updates here before on both my business and personal machines. This is my personal laptop running Windows 10 Enterprise.

Disk checks on all partitions reveal no errors and sfc /scannow comes up clean. I've tried deleting the contents of my user and system temp folders, as well as force-stopping the Windows Update service and cleaning its' folder. I've also ran Disk Cleanup.

What could be going on here? Thanks!

Answer:Windows 10 won't update after installing Office 2016 and Visual Studio

Hi AnonVendetta.

Try running the Windows Update trouble shooter. You will find in Settings, Update and Security, fourth one down list.

.. hoping I can get some help on this. Driving me nuts!

Since upgrading to Windows Server 2016, WOL doesn't work for me. I've ruled out network or router issues, since it works perfectly fine on my Windows 7 machine.

I have 3 NICs in a team, but that's irrelevant, since the WOL doesn't work even if I disabled the teaming. One thing I did notice is that when I shutdown my Windows 7 machine, the NICs remain lit. However, the NICs on my Windows Server 2016 completely turn off. I don't recall if that was the case when I was using 2012 on the same hardware, but it seems strange to me. If the NICs are completely off, I can't imagine there is a way for them to receive magic packets.

I checked the UEFI and all the necessary options are enabled for WOL. I also tried upgrading the NIC drivers on the server but that didn't help. I read that Windows 10 has a "fast startup" option that messes with WOL, so I disabled it in the Group Policy settings on the server, but that didn't work either.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful for the help.

I'm setting up a server at my house, using Windows 2003. I currently setup, using a raid controller card, raid 0+1 with 4hdd's. It's not the space I need, it's the fault tolerance. But I'm running into some real problems.

I setup Active Directory, and all went well. Then I started to setup the policies, and I started to get some errors that it could not save. Weird, didn't know what to do. So I restarted. I really quickly noticed that there was something, during post, that said something about a faulty raid set please press f3 to correct the problem. But it skipped right over that, and continued loading windows, so I though nothign of it. But when I logged in, I got an error saying something about corrupted registry hives and Windows has finished correcting the error. So, Windows fixed it, right? YAY!!! But alas, no such luck. I went back to set some policies, and the same saving error. Crap, maybe it's a problem with Active Directory. Now my buddy had originally setup my server, so he didnt put a default password. When uninsalling Active Directory, you have to put a password that will be used as the default password. When I enter a password, I get the message about it not being long enough and not fitting the complexity requirements. I have tried SO MANY differnt combinations of passwords and nothing. Not long and complex enough. Now, I could go define that policy and take away the requirements, but since I cannot save, that throws that out the window. Now, I have but one... Read more

I have been using the Easy2Boot software for some time.. where you can load iso's on the USB stick and it will populate a menu and you can select the iso on bootup..

In many cases i have not had a problem.. but on some machines i run into the issue with windows installers where it prompts to "Load driver" (and even sees the local hard drives if you hit browse too)..

In this case right now .. i have an amd GIGABYTE GA-F2A85XM-D3H FM2 motherboard.. i also have a vantec controller card for extra sata 6 ports on the internal side as well.

In either case i have the bios set to legacy and uefi both, sata is set to ahci (i have tried ide with no luck)..

I went to the amd site and found what appeared to be "amd" ahci drivers.. put them on the stick.. i also put the vantec controller card ones there.

So i tried the harddrive just on the amd controller.. usb boots up.. install clicked.. wait.. "load driver" pops up (the OS intended drive can be see if you click browse).. browse for the driver anyway.. choose amd.. tried vantec as well.. click next.. it says failed to find.. and back to square one.

Then i tried the driver on the vantec controller only.. repeated.. same results.

I would have tested this with a dvd, but i didnt have the right size tonight.. but i'm pretty sure.. 99% of the time if i try this via booting to a dvd instead.. i dont get the "load driver" prompt.

Perhaps this is a short coming of the "Easy2Boot&quo... Read more

Hello,

I have a very frustrating problem. I want to use Windows 2008 R2 Terminalserver with Outlook 2016.
Unfortunately every time a user starts Outlook, he installs the 64 bit Components. It seems there is one solution: Installing Windows Search Role and starting Outlook in Installation Mode.
Seems to work. With that solution, there is another problem: It is not possible to search in pst-files. Windows error log says event ID 3036. Looks like, Windows Search cannot index pst-files (in network). The possible solution to disable indexing for Outlook
does not work because the configuration change got reseted after relogin. This might happen because of our Roaming users.
As you can see, I have one problem. When Windows Search is installed, pst-files are not searchable. When Windows Search is not installed, Outlook 64 bit Components get installed every start of Outlook.

Is there anybody who has other ideas for a solution?

Thank you for your help.

Jens

Hello guys. My very first thread feels like a very stupid one though. Can I upgrade install Windows 10 Home Version 1511 to a Windows 10 Pro Version 1507? I just don't want to clean install my Windows since I have some programs that I need to re-install again (if you have any idea to backup all applications and install it after a clean install I would be truly grateful).

Reason: I used ShowKeyPlus and it says that my OEM Key is for "Win 8.1 RTM CoreConnectedSingleLanguage OEMM". I just don't want to have any issues in the future. Thanks

When i first built my computer 2 months or so ago, i tried unsuccessfully at installing winxp 64-bit.

Here is my problem:

I go through and do the normal installation, but when it comes to the end, there is approx 2 min left in the installation when a blue screen comes up that does a physical memory dump.

Is it me doing something wrong during the installation (which i dont believe it is because i have installed regular winxp over 100 times without having any problems) or is it a hardware problem, or could it be a bad CD that i am using?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Installing Windows XP 64-bit Edition

Try doing a scandisk then re-do the install. make sure the CD isent scratched or anything. The cd could be damaged but i dunno. If u have installed it 100 other times then it should install.

AntiBrowserSpy 2016 (COMPUTER BILD-Edition) (Build 169) - Download - COMPUTER BILD

"AntiBrowserSpy" protects you against snooping through your browser. Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Edge & Co. are usually pre-set to gather data about their surfing, downloads, and system configuration, and then pass it on to the browser vendors. "AntiBrowserSpy CBE" provides you with extensive possibilities to block this collective rage and to disable the espionage functions of all browsers. A "browser stealth" also ensures that web pages can not be identified and you can surf anonymously. And with the option "Social Network Block" you protect yourself from tracking by Facebook.

6 months ago, my boss baught himself ASUSTek P4P800/DELUXE Motherboard. This motherboard is his home server that is running Windows Server 2003.

This motherboard comes with an onboard IDE RAID with the VIA ChipSet.

Problem... the VIA IDE RAID CHIPSET drivers does not support Windows Server 2003. The raid works fine under Server 2000, however his personal requirements need Server 2003 on this box.

Last time I contacted AsusTek (November 03), there was on ETA on when the these drivers will be avalable.
As for VIA themselves, they did have an beta release of the VIA RAID Drivers for Server 2003, but again, they did not work.

Does any one here have any ideas on how to get a VIA IDE RAID working on Server 2003?

Does any one here know of any new receint developments that a has happened in the last few months?

Answer:VIA IDE RAID + Windows Server 2003

Perhaps a nice letter to your contact is in order. After all, it is their job to research and develop harware and software that keeps up with Microsoft and it's customers. I haven't read anything or heard anything. But I think that within the letter, mention of the non-functioning Beta release should come into play.

I've got windows server 2003
Dell OpenManage Array Manager > image of layout: http://i31.tinypic.com/25rypg9.png
Exchange Server 2003 (on G: Drive)

That's what I'm working with.
Basically what I want to do is give C: more space as it ever growing. I'd like to do this whole process without having to re-install anything on the server and with the least amount of trouble.

As you can see I have partition manager by paragon. If I can use that software to do what I want then that's great.

H: has a ton of data and basically I want to take some of that and give it to C:.
I know that the hard drives aren't currently sharing a partition, but I'm not sure if I can do something like that seemlessly without Windows losing it's mind.

Anyone want to start me down the right path?

Also does anyone know of a good software to do a full back up of the drive? Something that will see it all as a RAID and not 4 independent discs, thus making 4 copies of the same data since it's RAID 5.

I just bought a Dell Poweredge T110 and also downloaded Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 off Technet.

I burned the ISO and proceeded to pop the CD into the server and start installing the OS. The normal blue screen with Windows Setup in the upper left appears and it starts loading drivers/files. When it says "starting windows" in the lower left corner, the screen goes black for a second then I get a blue screen with a message.

Here's a picture of the error message: photo

Any idea what is going on? This is a brand new server straight out of the box.

Here are the specs:
* Intel Xeon X3430, 2.4 GHz, 8M Cache, Turbo
* 2GB (2x1GB) Memory 1066MHz Single Ranked UDIMM
* 160GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA 3Gbps 3.5" Cabled Hard Drive
* On-Board Dual Gigabit Network Adapter
* DVD Drive, Internal

7B is a hard drive error, check the drivers (use a flash drive to get updated drives if you can).

Hi,
I won a copy of Server 2003 at a recent event, but I have no use for it. It is marked as a Promotional Sample Not for Resale. I listed it on eBay, but it was quickly canceled by eBay. I was under the impression that NFR was for a store such as circuit city to know not to put it on the shelf. I obviously do not want to get involved with legal issues, but want to know what I can and canít do with this software. I was hoping that if I could not sell it, I could trade it for something, say a video card or whatever. Is this allowed? Any help would be appreciated.

NFR means Not For Retail sale, meaning you can't sell it. Trading for something else is still questionable since you would be placing a "value" on the trade.

Anyone actually have this or know anyone who does? I saw it on Dell's website as an available OS for their entry level servers. It was only $259 in their configurator. I've read up on it but can't any OEM distributors that sell it.

Does anybody have any experience with OS? In particular on an IOMEGA 200d NAS.

The web interface is pretty and all but it seems to be going slooooow as anything and won't let me add domain users as admins for some reason. Any ideas?

I've switched back and forth between DHCP and Static to rule out DNS being the cause of slow responses

EDIT:
Finally got domain users to be added. Any body know of any other quirks I shoudl know about?

Thanks

I'm running a couple of opterons with Windows Server 2003 64 bit edition. I have 6GBs of memory in it. Sandra recognizes all the sticks, but Windows only seems to see 5GB of it. Worse, it only let's me access 4GBs of it. Is there something I can set to let it see it all? Do I have to set the /PAE flag even in the 64 bit edition?

Answer:Windows Server 2003 64 bit edition and memory.

I've heard of some Dell (intel) servers having a similar issue where memory from 4.25gb to 5gb was system reserved by the bios, making the memroy unavalible to Windows. You might try looking for a BIOS update or asking the system/motherboard manufactuer.

I know this is obvious, but you could just have them all have static IP's. If that isn't in the question, set up Static DHCP (I dont know how, though in Win 2k3)

EDIT: What is handing out DHCP leases? The 2k3 box?
