HID sensor collection: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Failed to initialize sensor from HID collection descriptor.

Question: HID sensor collection: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Failed to initialize sensor from HID collection descriptor.

I have tried a few different windows images, windows troubleshooting feature, and the latest versions of the drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, disabling and re-enabling, re-imaging, updating windows. None have had the effect of actually making it work. I'm running win 10.0.10240, on dell latitude 5285 and 5289. This is affecting the entire Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver and all the included sensors, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope GPS and ambient light.

hardware id: HID\Vid_8087&Pid_0AC2
I would like to resolve this so that we can order tablets and have them work right in our org.

Preferred Solution: HID sensor collection: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Failed to initialize sensor from HID collection descriptor.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I go into Device Manager I have the Sensors part of my x360 open and two of the HID Sensor Collection V2 Drivers with a yellow triangle. This laptop is barely two weeks old. I have had other issues where when i've started it in tablet mode or turned on tablet mode it then hasnt gone back to desktop mode when i turn it back to a laptop and the keyboard and touchpad stop working. I'm wondering if these are linked? I've seen a previous post about a HP Sectre and done the solution for that but nothing has improved or changed. I have also uninstalled the drivers and restarted my PC so they install from scratch and still no improvment. To try and solve the issue of the keyboard and touchpad not responding after waking from sleep in tablet mode i have updated the bios and changed a setting in the power options to off as from other posts. The error message I get is as follows: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)Failed to initialize sensor from HID collection descriptor." Only two of them do it out of the three listed. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

HI all, I have had a couple of occassions over the last 2 days where my keyboard and touchpad cease to work and the screen stays inverted. After googling the issue I found it had to do with the sensors in the Device Manager and when I disable the option and sleep and turn back on the PC all works fine.   Is this an issue anyone else has discovered? This along with the Delete and PrtSC keys not working is leading me to believe I may have a faulty unit... Appreciate any feedback. Regards, Matt

Hi Guys, I bought the Yoga 13 with Windows 8 but the non pro version.  I wanted the pro version on so I can connect to a domain so I did a clean install - where I deleted the partition with the old OS. Everything went great and all drivers that were are on the other partition that I left alone installed fine. Here is the problem:  I noticed that the auto-rotate functionality no longer works.  After doing some research I found that the HID Sensor Collection is what controls this.  If I look at the device manager I can see that their is a exclamation point next to the HID Sensor Collection Driver along with the Light Sensor driver. They both give me the error:  This device cannot start (Code 10). The process hosting the driver for this device has terminated. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver - this didn't help.I've tried searching for this driver online - no luck.I tried using the "update driver software" and it says:  Windows has determined that your driver software for this device is up to date. Any ideas how I can get the HID Sensor Collection working? Thanks for your help!

Answer:Yoga 13: HID Sensor Collection : Auto-rotate functionality

Sorry, I don't have a solution. But I think I followed the same steps you did and my sensors do work - they are a little flaky (i.e. the compass sometimes tells me south is north) but that's not the same thing as your issue ;-)I deleted the original OS partition but left the LENOVO partition in place. I made 2 new partitions, installed Win8 on one, put my data on the other. Then I ran each one of the driver installers in the LENOVO partition. Device Manager does not show me any problems. The HID Sensor Collection driver says:Driver Provider: MicrosoftDriver Date: 4/21/2009Driver Version: 6.2.9200.16433Digital Signer: Microsoft WindowsThe two files listed are in System32/Drivers:UMDF/SensorsHIDClassDriver.dllWUDFRd.sys

We recently purchased some of the Inspiron 5378 2 in 1 laptops. I installed Windows 10 Enterprise x64 LTSB 2015 like I have on the previous model they are no longer making, Inspiron 5368. The problem is the device "HID Sensor Collection V2" driver on dell's website nor any of the drivers from windows update will work. In device manager three out of four parts of the HID Sensor collection v2 have an error code 10 (device cannot start) failed to initialize sensor from HID collection descriptor. Specifically Locations 0, 1, and 2 are the devices not working. The machines came with Windows 10 Pro and the drivers are working correctly. I was under the assumption the driver pack in pro would be the same for enterprise but, I could be wrong.
I have tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them, some forums have mentioned disabling auto-rotate but that option does not show up for me anywhere. Microsoft says the manufacturers make the drivers not them and would not help unless we purchased a $500 service contract and the Dell technical representative said they do not support windows 10 enterprise for those machines and would not help me further. I am at a loss to what to try next any help would be appreciated.

Hi All,I recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and everything was going great until my fingerprint reader stopped working earlier today. I used it to sign in to my system this morning and faced no issues. Later in the afternoon, I rebooted my system and found that the the fingerprint reader was not working. I used my windows p/w to log in and checked: Device Manager>Biometric Devices>TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF Advanced Mode) properties. Device Status was that the device was running properly. I also checked for driver software/hardware changes, but everything was current. I also opened the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox and did the System Health and Diagnostics scans/checks and everything passed. However, when I open the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software to enroll a finger, I get the following message:Error Code: 7210005 - Cannot find fingerprint sensor device. Also, all my previously enrolled fingerprints were deleted. Any similar experiences or help on the issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:T60 - Cannot find fingerprint sensor device (Error Code: 7210005)

I uninstalled the fingerprint software I had and reinstalled the Win7 64 bit version that was released 01/28/10 and it worked. I guess I had the 32 bit version running earlier, though I'm not too sure. But I'm just happy it works now. All the deleted fingerprints were also restored. Here's the link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73585

The initial setup of the FP sensor for Power On PW in Bios and also for logon to Win 10 went smooth. However, it happens in a few days already 3 times that the re logon to Windows after time controlled lock of Windows with FP sensor didn't work. After signing on manually to Windowsusing the keyboard the FP sensor had an error code 45 in the device manager, "currently this hardware device is NOT connected. To fix this problem, reconnect the hardware device."My workaround is shutting down the machine, fire up again, go in Bios settings, just walk through Security Fingerprint settings, change nothing, but nevertheless save changes and let it boot again. The logon process to Windowws then works again and the FP sensor no longer has the error code in the device manager. The workaround works, but is of course annoying anyway... Any idea how to fix this?

Did you check if this option is located in the Protector Suite QL application?
Possibly it?s a part of this software.

Where did you find this program and was this application preinstalled on the Toshiba recovery image?

HI,I have a T500 (LENOVO 2081CTO ThinkPad T500) running W7 32 bit.  Been working fine since September 10.  Today when simply trying to logon the fingerprint sensor has stopped working.  Laptop had not even been moved, simply resting on desk and then switched on from powered off.A few times since have received message that "USB device is being installed"  with finally "USB Device could not be installed.  There is a problem with your device."  Device Manager showed a problem with "USB Composite device"Powered off/on gave same symptom.Downloaded & installed latest fingerprint software 7wf162ww.exe.  Installed OK.  USB device appeared to then automatically pick up and reinstall correctly.  BUT still unable to use fingerprint to logon or for with Thinkvantage Client Security.Using Thinkvantage Lenovo Fingerprint Software gives error "Cannot communicate with sensor.  Please confirm the sensor is ready."   I've also noticed the keyboard around the fingerprint sensor is very warm, almost hot.  As if it is being constantly turned on? Fingerprint sensor is AuthenTec Inc. AES2810Help?  What hardware tests are there and how do I get this working again? Thanks,Les

I'm experiencing slim keyboard not being recognized in the Windows 8.1
The keyboard was working fine until just one day it just stopped working.
I tried factory reset literally 8 times along with most recent BIOS update and dell's recommended update software. + power setting --> disabling power saving on USB
It still come up as unrecognized each time even with fresh reinstall.
I was wondering if this is a hardware issue or just software bug from factory reset.
I don't think there is a available driver for this kind of problem is there?

I got my thinkpad W530 yesterday, and found it had no color sensor. A lady in technical support department told me W530 should have the color sensor. But when I called the Lenovo Sales Department, I was told W520 has the color sensor, but W530 does not. Will the color sensor be important  when color calibration is being done?Any input is greatly appreciated.

It is useful, especially if you use your computer for Photoshop, etc.  You can also buy an external color sensor. More at:http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/626243-thinkpad-w520-color-sensor.html PS: Some W530 models will have the"Pantone® color calibrator by X-Rite® color calibration sensor in palm rest, LED indicator"

I set up my brand new W700 with the fingerprint software and all my prints and it worked beautifully.  Then 2 days later my Lenovo external keyboard with fingerprint sensor arrived, I connected it and it couldn't find that sensor with the lid closed on my W700.  I did the updates and installed that Keyboards driver and it eventually worked.  Then I disconnected from my docking station, took the laptop on the road and it told me, the W700 integral fingerprint sensor could not be found. Lenovo support was rather unhelpful, telling me it was my "software" issue.  Their eventual suggestion was a total re-install, which I did because according to them, they don't support Windows XP Service Pack 3.  So, after the rebuild and re-install, I had the internal fingerprint sensor working, and when I re-docked it, the external sensor worked.  I have subsequently undocked the machine and I am back to where I started with a brand new machine that can not find it's internal fingerprint sensor at logon or when I go to ThinkVantage, yet it did ask for a fingerprint swipe for my email password and it accepted it! I know it's there, it's not damaged and I know it works, but Lenovo says it's a software issue, not a hardware one, yet the only hardware I have is theirs and their software drivers!  Any suggestions?

Answer:W700 Fingerprint Sensor Not found after External Keyboard w/Fingerprint sensor is connected

What is the FRU number on the external keyboard w/ FPR you purchased?  I can lookup the FPR vendor from it.
I suspect that the internal FPR and the external FPR are two different vendors requiring two different drivers that are not compatible.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Hi,

I got a Satellite A300-M01 with Windows Vista but my my softwares are very slow so I got a Windows XP installer to put in. After this, the fingerprint scanner doesn't work anymore during fingerprint enrollment it will only say "Failed to open sensor" and if you access the service for this device it says "specified device instance handle doesn't correspond to a present device."

I already downloaded the driver for this sensor from isd.toshiba.com.au but after installation the problem is the same. Any info is highly appreciated.

thanks.

Having a problem with the Toshiba fingerprint utility. The program works fine until I try to use any sort of firewall/antivirus program, even the windows inbuilt firewall :S The scanner still works fine for boot time scanning, and also for windows logonm but as soon as any sort of firewall/antivurus software loads up, it fails to connect to the sensor. I've added the program to the allow lists but still nothing.. So far I have tried it with Outpost Security Suite, AVG Internet Security and the default Windows Firewall. I had the Windows Firewall turned on for quite a while when I first bought the laptop and there was no issue.

It's a Qosmio X500-00X, it's using the same windows install as when I bought it..

Cheers!

Hi all,

I bought a Qosmio x500 10t a couple of months back. For the first couple of weeks i had no probs using the fingerprint reader to log in to windows and to log in to websites in Internet exploer.

All of a sudden it would not work on any website stored. The green banner showed accross the top of site and asked to swipe finger but nothing happened when I swiped. I rebooted and it worked again but not for long before failing. This time a reboot didnt work so i deleted my finger prints and websites and started from scratch. That worked for a couple of attempts before probs started again. And on trying to get into Fingerprint utility it says failure to connect to sensor. So, I did a system restore. It worked for a couple of times again and then same probs. So I found the updated utility software, uninstalled the old and put on the new. Same again, worked for a couple of times then failed.

I could not find anything stuck in the registry but to be on the safe side i did a full system clean back to factory setup using backup discs. Hey presto i thought it had worked. Everything going ok for first 24hrs and then same problems start to occur. Only this time it is also prompting me to enroll fingerprints even though i already have. And when i try to get into the utilioty it says failed to read sensor again.

The fingerprint log on to windows always works as long as i dont close the fingerprint utility down before shutting down. If i do exit the utilty i cant reopen it ... Read more

If its still missing from Device Manager, there may be a hardware problem. The laptop would need to be sent to an ASP for repair.

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

location : Port_#0001.Hub_#0003

Unknown USB Device (code 43)
For the past few weeks or so one of my USB controllers seem to have been malfunctioning. but it was working fine a month ago ,before that i fully recovered my notebook by pressing f11 using hp recovery manager but i lost my finger print sensor as malfunctioned then i tried to clean reinstall windows 7 home premium 64
bit , and activated again using the genuine product keys . all drivers updated but not with fingerprint reader . if i remove the ribbon cable of fingerprint device from the zif connector then i see no more this error in device manager . if i again insert the cable in to that zif connector , then after power on i see the same error in device manager .
uninstalling the Unknown Device through Device Manager does absolutely nothing if any device is plugged in to USB. Doesn't matter which device, the device itself will continue working but Windows will try (and fail) to reinstall whatever driver it thinks is missing, so the Unknown Device comes back straight away.

Answer:unknown device fingerprint sensor issue

Hello salluhassan, I worked in an HP call center doing support on HP laptops I have seen this work on different problems from malfunctioning keyboards, USB ports, fingerprint scanners and laptops that refuse to power on. In fact it is the first step in a lot of HP's logic flows. This does not work every time nor does it solve all issues but it's worth a shot. HP refers to this as a hard reset, remove your battery unplug your A/C so no power is going to the NB hold power button down for 30 sec reconnect and power back on.

Hello,I created a blog on this forum called.... "I Explain How To Downgrade From Vista To XP Successfully On A 3000 N100 Laptop".Locate this and read through it. At the very end I talk about the "Fingerprint Scanner". Try the program I mention. Also try the "Auto Detect Function" I talk about. If none of this works I'm afraid your problem is.......... "IT IS  BROKE."Regards

Hi All, I did a Thinkvantage system update today with BIOS update as well as replacing the Norton Internet Crapware with AVG free and on reboot I no longer had the fingerprint sensor but instead get, "Cannot find fingerprint sensor device. (E7210005)"  (I downloaded the FPR driver from an IBM link here and was then told that there was a compatibility issue on installation.) Edit:  After trying to reinstall the device with ThinkVantage Toolbox's Device Manager, I get the message from TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF Advanced Mode) Properties that the device status is: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"  Any help appreciated...thanks from a noob.

Please remove the fingerprint reader software that you have installed and try this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70598 I believe that you have installed the UPEK fingerprint reader software instead of the Authentec fingerprint reader software. Please let us know the results, and welcome to the forums!

Hello,

a week after purchase I decided to replace the OEM Windows 7 Home Premium by Windows 7 Professional.
(I am a Student and I need the Professional version). Everything works perfect except the sensor bar. With the OEM Windows it worked well but yet it is not responding anymore.

When I open the device manager there is a unknown device. (Details: ACPI\TOS6205) I dont know what it is.

Hopefully I have explained my problem correctly. English is not my native language...

Thanks

Answer:Qosmio X770 - Sensor bar and unknown device

Hello

With sensor bar you mean the illuminated buttons on your notebook, right?
Well for these buttons you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package that you can download on Toshiba driver download page. This package contains the drivers for the illuminated buttons, FN keys, etc. so you have to install it:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

ACPI\TOS6205 must be the Bluetooth device so install the BT software from BT portal:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/

For the 3 weeks I have had this machine, the fingerprint reader has worked perfectly.  Today it doesn't, I get the above error message.  Rebooting doesn't help. I have installed no SW, HW or updates between it working and not working.  I always have windows automatic systems updates switched off, and only do updates at specific times, e.g.. once every few weeks. So no changes whatsoever between working not working.  I have seen a lot of threads about this, but none on the W520. I don't see any value in randomly trying to re-install drivers when nothing has changed - there must be a root cause. I haven't even moved the laptop - its just sitting on a solid wooden desk and the mouse/keyboard and screen are on a different desk (so doesn't even get vibration). There is a green light on the finger print reader.  There is nothing fingerprint related in the Device Manager that I can see.  I did a scan for HW changes, and none are found. Any ideas?  There were no error messages.  There is no way Im going to spend 2 days re-installing all my software and re-configuring my apps from scratch, "just in case that helps", especially if it could just happen again. I ordered (and paid for) a 3 year NBD warranty with this laptop (bought online in UK), but the warranty never arrived, only the laptop, and the pre-installed crapware says that I only have a standard return to Lenovo warranty.  Does anyone know how to contac... There is a section in Device Manager entitled Biometric Devices. There should be an item within that section entitled TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode). Check to determine if it has somehow been disabled.

Hi All, I recently did a BIOS update as suggested by think vantage update software. After te BIOS was updated I realised that the finger print reader was not functioning and I tried re-installing the finger print reader but I'm getting the message "Cannot find fingerprint sensor device. Welcome to Lenovo Community! gaugetaIs the problem intermittent or constantly? As I will have this error randomly, not sure is it because of the latest BIOS.

What notebook model do you have?

Did you download the newest Fingerprint software from the Toshiba European driver page and did you reinstall it?

I mean you should firstly uninstall the old software and then you should install the new one downloaded from the page.

Hi all, I have Windows 7 x64 on my R61. I had to replace the fingerprint reader in my R61 palmrest as the old one was not functioning properly. The original reader unit has P/N 93P4393. I got a similar device with P/N 93P4378 and replaced the old one in the palmrest. I found  a driver at AuthenTec website, the installation was successful.  The new device shows in device manager under "Authentication Devices" as "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor",  Driver date 26.08.2012, version 1.9.2.204, Hardware Id USB\VID_0483&PID2016&REV_0001. So far fine. But if I download and install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software it installs a different driver and there appears a yellow triangle with a an exclamation mark in the device manager, furthermore I can not enroll myself because of error E7210005 as the fingerprint sensor device is inaccessible. Removing the fingerprint software and installing AuthenTek Protector Suite 2012 fixes the driver issue (the yellow triangle disappears, the device seems to be properly installed in device manager) but the error prevails and I can not enroll. Device, driver & software seems to be installed properly but still the software can not find the fingerprint reader. "Can not find fingerprint sensor device" ERROR  E7210005 Any idea? Is this a hardware compatibility issue or a wrong driver/software? I tried all possible variations of existing drivers but could not have the device recognized by any fingerprint sof... Read more

Hi, mracz

I did some research and was able to find this Lenovo thread that may be able to help you. Two users had this issue and posted possible fixes for you. One fix involves going into the settings of ThinkVantage Toolbox and having a component installed. The other possible fix occurs in Device Manager. I would make sure, however, that the Fingerprint Reader is being recognized by BIOS and is turned on. You can check this in Security > I/O Port Access.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes,
Adam

Hello, I am very new to forums so I apologize ahead of time if I don't give all the correct information needed info in this thread.

I have a Toshiba U405-S2833 and it came with the TrueSuite Access Fingerprint Software.

I downloaded an update a few days ago but I cannot remember if it was for Vista or Toshiba. Since then, my fingerprints were all deleted from the system and when I try to re-register them, I get this error message "Error: failed to open sensor" I can't find the hardware to manually fix the sensor without going through the TrueSuite software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Answer:Satellite U405-S2833 Fingerprint Error: failed to open sensor

I'm also having the same issue.

My boss uses a Satellite U405-2628 with the TrueSuite Access Manager and fingerprint sensor. Everything was working fine, then I updated windows and it stopped working. I looked back at the updates and noticed a TrueSuite update and thought maybe that had messed things up.

Then there were some other issues that happened that locked me out of the machine (Anti-Virus and loss of relationship with the domain... also my fault). So I decided to wipe the machine and install Vista fresh.

I got everything installed yet the TrueSuite software still could not open the sensor. After banging my head on this, I decided enough was enough and I restored using the Toshiba Recovery Discs.

That took a couple of hours and here I am, logged in under Administrator and the TrueSuite software still can't open the sensor. I'm not sure what else I can do, since it is back to factory settings.

As the above poster noted, HELP!

Thanks.

.... a little later....

Well, I got it to work, and this may be of use to some people out there since I haven't found any easy answers. I can't gaurantee anything and this is really convoluted... so here we go.

I first downloaded the newest update from Toshiba (util_fingerprint_27460A.exe), installed it and nothing worked.
Then I uninstalled the sensor from the Device Manger (right click, uninstalled) making sure to uninstall the driver as well (it should prompt you to do this)
Then, still in the D... Read more

Hello

I have a samsung 850 Pro SSD and would like to know how to clean the drive with garbage collection/TRIM. Do I let the PC idle or something?

Things I should mention:
-PC is set to AHCI and I only have one drive attached to it.
-Trim is enabled
-I have over provisioning set to 10% of drive using samsung magician.
-Disk defragmenter shows the drive is 33% fragmented. I've never defraged the SSD and have defragmentation schedule turned off.

Thanks

Answer:Samsung 850 Pro ssd- how to start garbage collection/TRIM

It sounds like you have everything set up correctly. There is no need to do anything about garbage collection, in fact I don't think you can do anything, the SSD does that itself.

Disregard what Disc Defragmenter says & don't defrag a SSD.

I have a Samsung 840 Pro & I use the Samsung Magician software as well & it has been in use for over 12 months now without any problems.

So just enjoy your SSD & let it look after itself .

Oh yea and on top of that i have 2 more issues that i jut can't solve by myself.

I am running the Lenovo Ideapad y510p (the GT755m SLI version). I had my USB mouse and my flash drive connected to the 2x 3.0 USB ports (the ones on the left), everything was fine until suddenly both of them stopped working. When I try connecting either of them (the mouse of the flash drive) to the 3rd USB port (the usb 2.0 port) they both work perfectly fine without any errors at all. I would like to know what may have caused that error and if there is any solution at all. Thanks in advance, Mersif.

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

When my girlfriend connects external USB device to any of the USB ports on Windows 10 Home she gets message:
USB Device Not Recognized.
She can not charge USB device via USB port.
I went to device manager and under USB Controllers I see following:
Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I tried some tricks I googled for this message but none of them returned result.
She didn't get any of the drivers with this device which needs to charge.
What should I do to be able to charge this device via USB?

Answer:USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed

Try the device on a different USB port. This will figure out if problem is caused by a broken port.
Connect the device to another PC. This will figure out if the external device has problem.

Open Device Manager and expand category Universal Serial Bus Controllers and locate the USB device which is not being recognized by Windows.

Right-click on the device and select Uninstall from the context menu.

After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically.

The problem can be caused by faulty USB driver. In this case, updating driver would fix the problem.

Obtaining Hardware ID's to help Identify Hardware
- Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Expand the "Unknown USB Device" category by clicking on the + sign to the left of it
- Right click on the "Unknown device" (if there's more than one, do this for all of them) and select Properties.
- Then select the Details tab.
- In the dropdown box, select "Hardware IDs" - and match the info to one of the following descriptions:
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VEN_ and DEV_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VEN_ and the 4 characters immediately after the DEV_
this is a PCI device and we'll look up the information at http://www.pcidatabase.com

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

After i updated my Lenovo G580 20150 to Win 8.1 all 3 USB ports stopped working. Now i can't use any USB device (Mouse, Flash drive, portable HDD etc, all working on my other Win8 computers). Below are some screen shots for further information. Please help to resolve this issue.

Answer:Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

hi kmugal,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

The issue that your having is most likely the one discussed in this article.

If you have tried the USB 3.0 (x2) and USB 2.0 (x1) ports with the same issue, consider the following:
1. Unplug all USB peripherals connected on the machine
2. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes (reboot if necessary) and try the USB devices.

If the problem remains, consider going back to Windows 8 by doing a Refresh or Reset to isolate any issues on the OS level.

Regards

I have had the Microsoft Wireless 2000 Keyboard and mouse for 10 months and it has been working fine. But recently when I plugged it in I got an error message which said :The last USB Device you connected to this computer malfunctioned. and Windows does
not recognize it.
I opened Devices and Printers and it said Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

Also it is on Windows 10 Home

After installing Windows 10 anniversary update, I get the following error in the device manger: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Tried uninstalling and restarting PC. Reinstalled Windows made from media tool. Nothing fixed it. Did a google search and nothing has worked. No USB drivers on the PC maker's website.

Any ideas?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

You can try going into device manager > select show hidden devices and delete all "inactive" usb device appearances. In my example below, there would be four. Once done, reboot and try your device again:

Most of the threads on this error are old, (2015) so I am starting a new one. I only notice it when I happen to be in the device manager. I have no problems with any of my connected USB devices (that I have observed).

I have tried uninstalling it, and rescanning and it pops up again, so apparently it is something that is connected. Without disconnecting All of my USB devices one at a time (which I am wont to do, as it is not bothering me, other than that it is there!) It has been there for quite a while, so apparently is not anything new being connected.

Is there no way to identify WHAT is connected to this port, or even what port it is?

BTW, it only shows up in the USB Controller section, no matching errors in any of the devices themselves!

Curiouser and curiouser...

Answer:USB device descriptor failed

Hi.
In Device Manager, right-click the problem device and select Properties. In the General Tab, it gives the error code. In the Details tab, use the arrow down to select Hardware Ids. Then google the ID to identify. Could be an internal USB connection to something like wifi, BT, or card reader. Those cables do go bad sometimes.
Example: USB\VID_046D&PID_0A04&REV_0007

OK... so my fingerprint sensor stopped working for the BIOS power on a while back, not a big deal...  So I tried registering my fingers, and I received the dreaded e7210005 error, which tells me very little...Following some advise on here, I uninstalled all the drivers and fingerprint app and reinstaled... only now I cannot register ANY fingerprints due to the error. I tried creating a second admin acct follow other advice found on the MSFT forums, same error... I am on Windows 7 64-bit, with Thinkvantage fingerprint software v5.9.9 HELP!!!  I love my fingerprint reader and want it to work again...

Answer:e7210005 error -- fingerprint sensor device is exclusively used by another application

What system is this (e.g. X220, X230, etc)?
If you go into BIOS setup, in the security -> fingerprint menu, and try to reset the fingerprint reader, what happens?

I had an HP 3D Drive Guard error after installing device drivers from Device Manager in Control Panel.  I looked at Google for answers and they said to find the correct driver on HP website, sp71811, uninstall the old driver and install the new one for this notebook.  I did that and got a missing .dll error after rebooting the machine.  I was told to uninstall again and reinstall and to be sure to reboot after the uninstall.  The install stated that it was incomplete that files were not completely installed.  I got an error message about a missing .dll file (don't have the error code now).  Something about a stack file error.  So I went to the device manager and uninstalled the driver for HP mobile data protection thinking that I could reinsall that from device manager but it removed the accelerometer.  Now I cannot unload HP 3D DG because of the missing accelerometer.  How can I get the accelerometer back and fix the original problem with HP 3D DG??

Answer:HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor Missing in Device Manager

OK, the mobile data protection sensor came back in the device manager and I updated the driver.  Then I uninstalled the HP 3D Drive Guard and reinstalled the latest version for my notebook again.  I still get a VCRuntime140.dll missing error at start up.  It tells me to reinstall the HP 3D Drive Guard again.  Any advice for how to fix this?

Answer:problem with fingerprint sensor device on Lenovo sl 500 with Win7 ultimate

Hi ramirez,Welcome to the forum!Do the obvious first, go to BIOS to make sure fingerprint reader is enabled there then reload/reinstall fingerprint driver. If no go then my guess is that the problem could be due to accidental disconnection of the fingerprint cable from system board of your SL500. Consult the proceeding manual for instructions on reconnecting it:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69929.htmlFingerprint reader getting bad is not out of the question either so contact lenovo support if you still have warranty left.Hope it helps.

Hello, thanks for looking at my post, I hope you can help. I have had my x230 (2306CTO) for about 10 months now, with no problem until I updated to windows 8.1. After running windows 8.1 for 9 days with out a hiccup, my finger print reader stopped working. And when I try to enroll finger prints using the lenovo software (which I have updated, but to avail) I get the error code "E7210005", With the messages:"Cannot enroll user""Cannot update passport""Cannot find finger print device" However, In device manager The touchip finger print reader is reported as "This device is working correctly". Everything is up to date, including leno software, Windows and BIOS. I have un-installed the finger print driver, When I "scan for new hardware" the device is detected and re-installed. I uninstalled the lenovo fingerprint software and reinstalled, but that didnt seem to be the problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advanceNick

Answer:X230 "e7210005 cannot find the finger print sensor device"

I have the exact same problem but on an X200 running Windows 7 64 bit. I had to do a clean install of the OS and fingerprint software was running just fine, until a recent round of windows updates. Tried re-installing but get the same error messages.

Over at Seven Forums there's a CustomStart Menu Button Collection post that's offers plenty of alternatives to Windows start appearance. I remembered a Xara tutorial by Gary Priester over at XaraXone.com a few years ago & liked it so much I thought I'd use Gary's techniques for a Windows 10 version. I used Classic Shell to change the Windows 10 start icon. Classic Shell does plenty more but my only goal was to change the Windows 10 start button icon shown below.

Fromthis...

to this.
The icon works a little like a traffic light. When the task bar pops up, the top icon is visible. Move the mouse over the icon & the middle (10) icon is visible & select the icon with left mouse click the Windows flag pops up.

This one works opposite on the second & third icons.

Anyone can make their own or find others to used. Mine is a 54x162 pixels png with no background. You can go larger but be aware that the icon will overcrowd the taskbar. Give it a try. Have fun & post your results!

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hello
I have a USB device (X.Vision PCDVB-3100)
It work properly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
But now in Windows 10 when I connect it to USB port, The Windows give me this error:

?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.?

How I can solve this problem?

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed

Probably the USB port cannot provide enough power to the device, so Windows cannot properly identify it. Try connecting it to a different USB port. If problem persist, the only solution is to use a powered USB hub that will provide the power necessary. Also some devices have problem working on a USB 3.0 port (blue), try using a USB 2.0 port (black).

Hey, I have some errors in device manager like port reset failed and device descriptor request failed.Long striy short: I have already tried all the standard answers several times. I dont know wich device is/was the one who caused the error. It coud be mine (already contected everything I have) or of some other person. My probem is not the "problem"... What really annoys me is windows keeping refreshing the device manager and with that causing my pc to freeze for a second randomly. I have unsinstalled the device, plugged the pc off power for minutes, tried to remove with usbdview and usboblivion and all the stuff with energy options! The thing is that an error loke that seems to not be a big thing, but I cant use my PC anymore. I need windows to stop trying to reset the usb port or whatever it does, just forget about the error/device. Has anyone an idea how to get rid o this? Thank you and hope the answers will help other too!

Answer:Device Descriptor Request failed

Hi timniko. Welcome to the TenForums @timniko

Can I ask when did this problem start? Had you added a device?

Have you tried resetting your BIOS? (Before you do please ensure you document or know current customizations?)

Have you check manufacture's site for a newer BIOS? Not recommending you update BIOS but it would be nice to know if they have a newer version. Updating BIOS has its own risks which can result in a "Bricked" machine.

I assume this problem happens with all external USB devices removed, correct?

Is it possible to get Hardware id's from device manager for problematic devices?

One morning after I shutdown my laptop to leave for work and start it up again on the train. It gave me the: 2000 thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics failed. Everything is working fine. Is there a fix for this? Edit: I realised this is in the wrong section. Can someone help me move this please? Thank you.

Answer:Thinkpad L430 Error Msg: 2000 thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics failed

Does this error only happen when you start up your system on the train, or does this error always happen when you start your system?

Active protection (APS) is the HDD airbag function, it detects when the system is moving then it parks the HDD heads in order to prevent damage, until the system stops moving.

APS is initialized by BIOS when the system is turned on.  Part of the initialization is running diags on the sensor to make sure it is able to detect a non-moving state.  If the system is being moved while this happens, then the diags fail and that error message happens.

Hello my fellow thinkpadders.

I have some problems with my Thinkpad Yoga 12,5"

I recently upgraded my yoga with an ssd from a slow 500GB harddrive.

Since then my screen have been unable to automatically rotate by itsself, i have to manually do it when i want to use it on its other sides.

I have noticed that one device in the device manager is unable to start, i wonder if that has something to do with it, i have installed the driver for the device from the lenovo driver page (an all other drivers aswell) but still it seems unable to start.

I am not sure what i must do to get it going, i rather not reinstall the whole computer again just to get screen rotation to work again.

Anyone have any clue on what could be wrong?

I have just bought a new Lenovo Thinkpad T410 2518-FAA from one of main agencies of Lenovo in my country. The new-buy laptop was said to be totally new, i.e. it was not a re-furbished, and I actually checked for manything to confirm the real status of this laptop. However, when I bought it back to my house, a serious problem appeared. At the laptop store, I did not have enough time to check the Fingerprint device, thus I skipped to check it. When I came back home, the Fingerprint sensor error of this new-buy laptop completely drived me crazy!!! I installed the Fingerprint software of Lenovo, but this software continuously reported errors: "Can not enroll users, can not update passport, and can not find fingerprint sensor device." I have tried uninstalled and reinstalled this software many times, and already checked for the latest version of this software, it was Thinkvantage Fingerprint sofware 5.9.3 for Win 7-32 bit. My operation system is Win 7-32 bit. But these errors still appeared again and again. I already checked the status of TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor in Biometric Devices, uninstalled then re-installled this device, and it showed that this device was working properly and up-to-date, and I already unchecked the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", but all of my efforts was in vain!!! These errors still appeared and it drives me crazy! Up to now I had been unable to enroll my fingerprint to set up the fingerprint reader! These 3 err... Read more

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

Things I have tried:
- Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
- On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
- On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
- Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
- Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was un... Read more

Answer:USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

i have 3 win 8.1/64 bit machines. it will install and is working on only one.
used the same installation disc, and install process, and cables with all 3 machines.
googling the problem shows plenty of stuff mainly updating drivers. done that, still no good.
Not sure why it works on only one, a generic clevo laptop w550eu.
thoughts???
the installation process stumbles when it asks you to connect the printer cable to the computer.

I have two WD "My Book" 3.0 USB drives.  Previously, they both worked fine.  Now one of the two drives is getting a device descriptor request failed message.  The other drive is fine.  I have tried different 3.0 inputs on the system both in back and on top in the front.  Any ideas on why the same drive isn't working?  I have tried both on other systems and they work fine.  The other systems I have tried them on are WIN7 and WIN 8.1.

Answer:usb 3.0 drives getting device descriptor failed error

Hi there slovey  Have you, by any chance tried with another USB cable? I wouldn't make sense to change things as the device works on other systems but it wouldn't hurt to use the other My Book's cable with the problematic one just to rule this out as a potential cause. I would also check this thread and see if the offered solutions there help.  Keeping your OS, BIOS and drivers up to date is also an important part of the troubleshooting process. I'd also check if there's a new update specifically for the driver responsible for the communication between the drive and the system. Post back if you need more info! Captain_WD.

Hi all,

(Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descriptor failed)

Massive problem I have encountered since buying a new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1

I have 3 external USB storage devices - 1x Corsair "Slider" 64GB, 1x HiTachi Touro 750GB, & 1x HiTachi 4TB external drive. ALL drives are coming up with the same error message and are not being recognized by Windows 8.1

The strange thing is, I also have another 2 PCs - one with Win7 and one with WinXP and the drives work without issue.

I've spent the last 4 days scouring the net looking for answers, and thus I am here hoping someone can shed some light as to why ALL of these drives do not work on this new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1?

Even stranger still is I have other thumb drives, a cheap Transcend 32GB (which is USB3.0) and a few cheapo (USB2.0) drives of various sizes by Strontium, Lexar and so on which work perfectly.

But the one that has me o.O is an expensive 64GB thumb drive called the Mach Extreme which also works perfectly with this laptop???

So all up 2x HiTachi drives & 1x Corsair thumb drive are not working and its driving me bonkers!

If no drives worked at all, then I would be seeking the manufacturer for maybe a faulty component. Dodgy USB ports, or maybe a motherboard problem. But having a handfull of drives, of various makes, sizes and both USB3.0 - 2.0 fully working leaves me scratching the old chrome dome as to what could be the issue

Okay here's the fix that worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

I've always updated drivers, WinXP, Win7 and so on, the same way - download the driver, go into device manager and select browse, then point windows to the downloaded driver to update the necessary files. Its always worked that way for me for as long as I can remember.

Not so it appears with windows 8 - for some strang reason.

For me I had to update to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, but instead of the tried and trusted methos above, you simply hit the setup.exe and let windows 8 do its thing. Believe it or not, but this fixed the issue.

Yes I had already updatd to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers using the device manager method, and yes windows "did" update ...someting??? But the USB devices were still showing the Unknown USB Device error. But using the setup.exe fixed the everything and all my USB devices are now working perfectly with Windows 8.

How, why, who knows, but I hope this works for others with the same problem.
