I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

Hello,

I have a Qosmio G35-600. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure my volume control use to have advanced controls and I had access to the input monitor, which is now greyed out. I reinstalled my SigmaTel Audio Driver (qg600audiox.exe), but that did return the advanced controls nor give access to the input monitor. The volume control is Microsoft volume control version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_odr.101209-1647: Service Pack 3).

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance

Answer:Qosmio G35-600 - Advanced controls of volume control

Hi watson123,

What input monitor you mean exactly?

On the right side of Qosmio G35 you have the volume control wheel to adjust the volume. Using this wheel you can increase or decrease the volume of internal speakers or headphones but it doesn?t offer more options. It?s just for controlling the volume.

Is the sound card listed in device manager properly and do you have any yellow exclamation marks or unknown devices?

When I double-click on the Volume icon in my system tray, the volume control panel opens, but the Advanced Controls window is grayed out and inaccessible. I am thus unable to access any tone controls. In the record mode for the volume control panel, I CAN access the Advanced Controls, BUT the treble and bass tone controls are grayed out and thus inaccessible.

Can anyone tell me why this is? Is there a setting to fix this? Do I need to reinstall a part of Windows to fix this?

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated!

Bizarre, there is now a space on the tool bar where once lived the volume control.
Where has it gone?
In the Control Panel I am none the wiser.
My CD is playing silently, the software is not set to Mute (I checked!) and I am left scratching my head over this sudden loss of any volume control.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Answer:Lost! One icon on the Tool bar for volume control.

Right click on a blank space on the Taskbar.
In the menu that appears, select 'Properties'.
Next, select the 'Notification Area'tab.
Under the section headed 'System icons' there is a list of icons which
you can set to either always show (ticked box) or always hide (cleared box).

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

Q: Does somebody else has the same hardware side (endless turn) and software side (no smooth volume change) situation?

Many thanks for any reply in advance!

"problem" of abrupt volume change when turning volume control disappeared. I am not sure if this is based on disable "TDispVol.exe" as start-up service or another reason.

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

I've been using my microphone and a few days ago on the volume control the mic volume was at the top. Yesterday, it was in the middle and i couldn't slide it up any higher than that, and today it is at 10% and i cant budge the knob to turn it up. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

mmmm....actually i've had a very similiar problem....not quite sure how i fixed it though. Try updating your drivers for your soundcard, that might help. Also(obviously) go into control panel, and mess with things from there. Also, do you have any errors with any sound drivers of any kind? i know if....kind of nuke some of mine(stupid me) with an anti-adware program....if you have that could be part of the prob, and those usually aren't to hard to fix, just take a little time.

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

Answer:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

When I select the Volume Control from the toolbar, or Adjust System Volume from the Control Panel, I usually get two sliders: one for Device - Speakers and one for Applications - Windows Sounds. Sometimes however, apparently at random, I get three sliders; for example when iTunes is active I get a third slider for it.

Recently I got a third slider for Windows Mail, which was handy because at that time I happened to want the Mail notification to be quieter than other sounds, so I pushed that slider down to halfway. That made Windows Mail very quiet, which was just what I wanted on that day.

My problem is, I would like to restore the volume of my Windows Mail notification to its former level, but I can't make that third slider reappear. Can anyone suggest where I can find it?

Unless the programs you're using have their own volume controls, this isn't possible, except as a master volume control which Windows already has.

I've recently encountered a bizarre problem on my XP Professional machine. When I click on the volume control button near the clock, my computer will freeze and won't respond to anything but the restart button. I have no idea what could be causing this. I've scanned my comp with Norton as well as AdAware and SpyBot, hoping that viruses or spyware could be the issue, but I had no luck. Trying a system restore wasn't able to fix the problem either.

Other problems with freezes occur in Trillian, Winamp and Windows Media Player, but these seem random, not every time I start the programs. All these symptoms appeared at the same time, so I'm assuming they're somehow related. I've tried switching to Winamp 5.3 for mp3 files and video files, but the freezes still occur. The problem with video files extends even to looking at their thumbnails, which sometimes causes my computer to freeze as well...

Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows XP M.C.E. Remote Volume Control

Give this a try and you have to have the Windows install software for the computer for this procedure or it will not work. It is a non-destructive procedure and will not hurt the date but I recommend backing up all of your important data anyway to another media like DC-R's, DVD or thumb drive first. And you might have to re-install any service packs, Drivers, and Windows Updates.

I would like to control the volume of a player, foobar, Aimp, XBMC, a Media Center etc. with the volume control of a keyboard or a remote control, but when I use these keys the Windows volume control will be used? How could I avoid it?

Answer:Avoid using Windows volume control?

I don't think that you can...you could do so within Windows by use of an app, but...even then I suspect that just mutes or feeds off the Windows volume control.

My Windows 7 was installed in Drive C: in Primary partition.

I only have another drive D:, which is also a Primary partition and 200GB in size.

I need to create another drive. So, I use 'Shrink Volume' on Drive D: and free 30GB.

Then 30GB become free space and when I right click on that, I choose to 'Simple Volume' and then format it as NTFS and assign the drive letter E:. All of a sudden after I did that, all the partitions(C: and D now no longer say "Primary Partition". The blue color on top of the partitions also changed to a yellow/brownish color. My guess is that they have been converted to a Simple Volume too.

Well, then I just restart my PC and astonished that my windows 7 can't load. Only a blank screen come ahead to me. No error message given.

I use my Windows 7 DVD and in repair windows section, I use command line and by 'diskpart', i found, my all partition (C: and D: and E present their and there file system is: 'NTFS' and Type is "Simple". No drive there marked as a 'System' or 'boot'.

What should I do now, to recover my Windows 7?

Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Problem: when i play songs or watch videos or do anything that deals with the sound, the wave slider in the volume control will automatically jump from the high volume that i set it at to mute.

I have checked out the properties and volume control properties and still can't find a way for it to stay un-mute.

My volume control is the SoundMax Digital Audio driver...
i checked the hardware and it says it working properly and i can hear the sounds but only for some time, before the wave volume automatically jumps to mute...

this is getting annoying....

Any one have a solution to keep my wave volume from muting it self permanently...

Please Respond ASAP

Answer:Windows Xp Volume Control With Wave Slider

Hmmm...you might try using the native XP volume icon, rather than Sound Max.

I have SM on my system but I don't bother to use, I see no advantage to using the XP volume control (I did try the Sound Max control for a period of time) and any program I use for music file playback will have it's own volume controls.

Could be possible file corruption...I might try uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers which load Sound Max (if I really wanted to use it).

One thing to remember about Device Manager...it has no way (that I know of) to distinguish/inform the user...if a file is corrupt or not.

Hi all,

By now i'm sure you've all seen this volume display in Windows 8-10

From what I can work out, this is a volume display designed for tablets and notebooks that use hardware to alter volume.

That is all good when using a tablet, but not for a PC. Speaking plainly, it's annoying, and I want it gone.

I have a Logitech keyboard with SetPoint installed, with which I can turn off any volume notifications, however, once in a while it doesn't load on start-up and I am once again greeted with this little gremlin on my screen.

I want to turn it off so it never again shows up, but I can't for the life of me work out how. I've tinkered with various volume settings, and ease of access controls, but nothing works.

I know there must be a registry option for this somewhere but I'm not quite that good with PC's yet to attack my registry lol. So i'm hoping some wise soul here knows how to combat this and rid my system of it for good.

As i've mentioned there are ways around it, but I would prefer a clear fix to turn it off for good, I should be allowed that function after all, don't you think?

Thanks for your time. Any questions then please ask.

I'd access it by selecting the ^ to the left of the time and date on the bottom right hand side of the screen. But a few days ago, it was missing. I then clicked Customize, then Turn system icons on or off. The On/Off selection for the volume control
was greyed out yesterday, so I could not turn it on. Have no idea how it got turned off. Today, the On/Off drop down can be accessed, and I closed that screen and noticed the volume control is there again - between the Wi-Fi signal strength icon and Norton
Security. I'm no longer having trouble but I do wonder how/why did the volume icon get removed, and why was I not able to turn it back on? I don't recall changing any related settings or accessing Control Panel.

Is their a way i can map the slider for the master volume to my mouses scroll wheel? I obviously mean on the fly so i dont have to reach over to a volume knob or open the volume control all the time. It would also be good if i can have a shortcut to change from this mode to the normal mode of the wheel by a keyboard shortcut or maybe a button press on the mouse itself.

Hi all,

Just joined up....
What I want is actually the opposite of what most people are looking for.
I want to install windows 8 on my kids computer but want the volume level to be set at a certain level so the sound is not to high no matter what they do.

I am able to achieve this right now as the desktop is on XP and i have the wave bar set to a certain level so no matter how high they put the volume bar it just stays at a certain level.I have hidden the wave bar so they cannot even get at it by mistake.

The main thing is that I am using a sidewinder X4 keyboard which has the vol+/- so they can easily increase the volume even if I hide the volume tab from the desktop in windows 8, while in XP it remained a certain lvel even if they put it upto 100%.

I have been searching for win 8 mixers where I could maybe have the same type of control as the XP but so far have found nothing.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and used

I am using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.

Long Story:
The for a long period of time the left channel of my audio output was not working. I attributed this to a problem with the 3.5 mm output jacks, because after the front jack stopped giving left channel I moved to the rear jack until that one broke as well. I recently opened up the case, blew out a lot of dust, and poked the jacks a little with a screwdriver. This brought back left channel in the front jack, and partially fixed the rear. (If I inserted the male end of the jack only half-way in I could get both channels.)

I then noticed that the balances were all screwed up. I use a 2.1 speaker setup, and found that I could only get the bass working if I inserted the male jack halfway in to the input on the woofer, similiar to my problem with the rear output of my case and the left channel. Now that bass was returned it still sounded squeaky and/or muffled. I discovered that if I moved the Wave balance all the way to the left in the windows Volume Control panel it would sound normal. It would also sound odd if I had the Main Volume balance to the right at all.

Short Story:
However, whenever I play a new song or adjust the volume in an external program (such as WinAmp or RealPlayer) the balance is centered in the Windows Volume Control panel.Click to expand...

Okay so I went to hop on my desktop today, it wasn't waking up when I move mouse etc, which was odd because it was on. So I restarted it and I've had two options for windows 10 for a while now volume 1 and 4 I don't know why, I've always used 1 but now when I click 1 it just goes to black screen, monitor is awake cause my light turns blue when it is, I pressed windows key with something I forgot what button while in black screen and sound was coming through. So I restated again and went on volume 4 and that worked fine out dated stuff since I haven't used it but it was working. I would like to get back on my main volume, or at least know what the issue is.

i did a Nvidia graphic card update a day or two ago as well.
i also tried to go to the troubleshoot screen when you open windows 10 which worked fine, but when I clicked restore to a previous time-black screen- and then I tried removing everything completely clicked that option -black screen-
Thanks for help ahead of time!!

Answer:Windows 10 black screen on volume 1(main) and not Volume 4(old)

UPDATE: so I went into volume 4 and attempted a complete wipe again, once I clicked it screen went black for a while and no sign it was working, so now I put in my windows XP disk and am going to attempt a clean install of that, then just upgrade to windows 10.

Recently I went through a day of torture by an unsuccessful attempt to System Restore. I lost a display driver from some inadvertent deletion in either Sytem Mechanic or some other registry cleanup program. I tried several solutions, then, perhaps prematurely, reinstalled Windows XP Pro. Experiencing further difficulties, I then reinstalled Service Pack 1, which fixed the display problem pretty much. BUT... some sound problems developed:

a) I was no longer able to locate any volume or play control. I found an article in the Windows Knowledge Base that told me how to install the play control panel through the command prompt from my XP Pro disk. This fixed this problem... But...

b) While I can now control the volume through the sys tray icon and the play control panel, I no longer have this function on my keyboard! I reinstalled the keyboard software from a download site, and the keyboard's shortcut button functions all work BUT NOT the volume control. The mute button works fine, but NOT the volume control buttons (the - and + buttons). They were working fine previous to my reinstalling Windows. I fear that some registry file or setting needs fixing.

c) Lately I have discovered a final and third problem. There is no sound recorder in my files! I find NO sound recorder in my Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment section, nor anything like this by conducting a file search. It seems that this recorder didn't get installed when I reinstalled Windows. Is there a file... Read more

Answer:No Sound Recorder in Windows XP and Can't Use Volume Control on Keyboard!

Check Device manager and particularly the Keyboard and Sound items. If either have yellow marks or don't agree with what you know to be the correct item, delete all of the listings and ask for a new detection, as you can do there.

Even if there are no apparent problems shown there, delete those two items anyway, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Windows will pick them up again and perhaps you'll get lucky.

Beyond that, be certain that you are supplying the correct drivers for the enhanced keyboard that you apparently have and if you have sound card drivers, supply those instead of letting Windows do a default selection for you. Normally XP does well that way, but you're evidently not a normal case.

Good luck.

Hi .

I am new here. For the past few weeks I have been having problems with my taskbar. It keeps crashing whenever I use the volume control located externally on my laptop(increasing or decreasing the volume). It randomly happens. I am currently running AVG antivirus. I scan the computer everyday with it. Also used the Windows Live OneCare scanner from Microsoft website. All scans show up clean. I try to close the explorer.exe from the task manager and restart it but the problem stays till i restart my computer again. I ran a DDS scan and these are the results from it. My Firefox works fine. I do not know if its a malware causing this. I dont have any unnecessary popups either. I also heard about combofix but not sure if i need to use it.

Any ideas anybody??

Syed

Also when i restart the explorer again the sound icon disappears from the taskbar, and i also updated my audio driver software from my laptop manufacturer website and the problem still persists.

Hi everybody,

I am running Windows Vista SP1 on a new Dell computer, and have Windows Media Player 11 installed. The problem is with the volume control and it seems pretty strange. The volume control only works on WMV files. If I play any wmv file, I can control the volume, moving the slider, or I can completely mute the sound. However, with any other type of file (avi, mpeg), the volume is always at its maximum and moving the slider left or right doesn't do a thing. Pressing mute doesn't work either.

I am getting sound from a digital audio output on my sound card (Auzentech) and it goes to a DD 5.1 receiver.

I've searched the web, including Microsoft, and couldn't find anything related. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks!

Answer:Windows Media Player 11 Volume Control Problem

I can control the volume on all these files, if I use the VLC example, but it would be nice to fix this WMP issue.

Tried to adjust the volume yesterday and the slider did not

Hi,

I have a Sony Gold Wireless headset and it works perfectly fine, the only issue is that the windows volume Control (the slide in the task bark) doesn't affect it at all. So in order to change the volume i have to either use the built-in buttons of the headset, or whatever software am currently using, this is not a critical issue but am very used to the volume buttons i have in the keyboard (specially the "Mute" button).

What i tried so far :
Making it the default playback device :

Enabling bluetooth services :

I also tried using the "troubleshoot tool" and updating the driver, nothing solved this issue, because like i said, the headset is playing Sound correctly, its just that somehow it overwrite windows sound control or something.
I also did some comparison with my Razer headset and i noticed something a bit weird,

In my other Windows-10 pc, when playing AC/DC - Highway to hell solo on full volume, the playback device volume bars looks like this :

Playing the exact same song from the exact same source (Spotify) with full volume and also with the Razer headset, the volume bars don't get passed "4-5 bars" even thought that in my ears it's as loud as the other computer :
And for the sony Headset, it shows the same result in the "bad" and "good" PC (can't pass 4-5 bars)
I have no idea if this can help or even if it has any meaning but I just noticed that its kinda weird, even when i use the speakers th... Read more

My speaker setup seems to make windows think that all my speakers are 'left'. I dont mind that it does, but the problem is that i will be missing out on all the action coming out of the sopposed 'right' speaker.

The Volume balance control sliders that you can access from Sound > Speaker Properties > Levels > Balance only control the volumes that each individual speaker has.

Is there a slider, windows function or program that can shift both the output from the left and right speakers, to the left speaker, so that nothing will be missed .

Many thanks,

Hello All,When I use an external microphone plugged into the microphone jack, I am unable to control the volume. When I speak into it and listen to the playback, it's all distorted from the excess volume. If I go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices, under the Recording tab it shows Microphone SoundMax Intergrated Digital HD Audio. If I click on it and then click on Properties, it brings up a new window with a Levels tab. On the Levels tab is a slider volume control from 1 to 100. I can slide it back to a lower volume level but it will not stay there. As soon as I start recording, it jumps back to 100. There is an Apply button on that same tab window but it is grayed out.Does anyone know what I need to do to get the recording level to stay at a lower setting?

You could check to see whether there is a "mic boost" in one of the tabs.  I have one in a custom tab.  If so, uncheck it if you are getting too much input from the mic.

I've had this problem with Windows Vista Ultimate 64, Windows 7 64 7077, and Windows 7 64 7100.

Basically, the volume starts out at normal level, then all the sudden it will be real quiet. It stays quiet and no matter what settings I adjust, I cannot get it to play louder again. I would really like to disable all of the volume controls in windows and run Bit Perfect audio....

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Audio Rig: B&K 7270, Emotiva DMC-1, Polk LSI-25

That amp is putting out nearly 400 wpc (weighing nearly 100lbs O_O) to each speaker... My normal listening volume is -46 db (on my DMC-1)... now I have to put it on -17Db to get the same listening level. Something is wrong, and it's definitely the settings in windows.

I noticed the change immediately while I was listening and accidentally adjusted the bass settings in windows sound settings, the sound level fell instantly, and never returned...

any ideas?

Since a long while ago I've been having some weird issues with audio on my HP Netbook. Whenever I listen to audio on anything that has a separate volume slider (e.g. Youtube videos or iTunes) the volume is always at maximum. If I slide the slider back to minimum the sound slowly crawls back up to maximum while the slider stays down at minimum. Strangely this only seems to happen when using headphones/earbuds. I tried recreating it without headphones but it does not appear when using the laptop speakers. I also tried changing earbuds/headphones but to no avail, the sound kept playing on maximum volume. Also to make clear, the windows volume sliders work just fine. When at minimum the sound stays at minimum. It's only on separate volume sliders that are embedded in programs themselves. Julliath

I recently bought a dell computer second-hand from my friend, who had XP installed on it. It came with a subwoofer and a set of 4 regular speakers. On it, he had installed a form of creative volume control in addition to windows volume. The way it worked was he had the windows volume set to 100% at all times, and the creative volume control around 3% for regular browsing, 10-25% for gaming and 50% or higher for rocking out with music. I recently acquired windows 7 home premium x64 and upgraded my operating system. My soundblaster card has all the necessary drivers and the audio is all hooked up properly, and the only thing missing is this form of volume control. After looking around for the old software and trying a few different freeware and shareware programs, nothing has pulled through for me; any suggestions?

Answer:Creative sound card, windows 7 compatible volume control?

What exact sound card do you have?

Have you checked creative's website for additional software that goes along with the driver of your card? Is the windows volume not sufficient for you, or do you just want the extra ability for volume control?

If you installed the creative driver, have you checked in the audio control panel that's built into the driver?

Could you please post the make and model of your computer and the version of XP you're running (home, pro, 32 bit, 64 bit) and service pack (2,3)?

HYE GUYS,

Ive got this problem. When I go to Master Volume Control, there is no Microphone Slider Option but it appears on Recording Control. How can this be?

Im doing internet radio,so this kind of problem make it hard for me. The wave slider and mic slider must be work alternatively on master control. Or is there any other way?

HELP ME PLEASE.:cry

Answer:Microphone option not found in the master volume control but in recording control

Hi

I just noted your post in passing, have a look at your audio properties via the control panel in XP not sure about vista...See what you have set for playback and recording options you may have something different for each of the options in these tabs like recording control, playback device etc...

If your no joy, also have a look in the device manager and see what audio device you are using, if you have onboard audio and an expansion audio card (eg not built into the mother board) like a soundblaster audigy or similar then ensure this is selected for the appropriate recording or playback in sound properties. You might want to check to be sure the onboard is audio if any is disabled in the bios otherwise this may causr an IRQ conflict which you can check via the device manager on the audio properties.

I recently installed the Soundblaster Audigy and had all sorts of fun with it initially, untill i checked which IRQ (interupt request) it was using and found about four other devices all trying to run through the same irq, once this was sorted it was all joy and happiness...oh also check your drivers well your at it.

The other thing it might be is there are options in the (FILE) menu for volume control the one that lists maater volume wave microphone etc.. you can select which options to display and therfore in turn adjust in retrospect you may want to check this out as its the least complicated / time consuming of the options I've listed ...Good luck:wave

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Answer:Volume control issue-very quiet, main control uneffective

Are your speakers powered? If not you may have to invest in powered
speakers. This is a common issue with non powered speakers.

Hi,

I am running windows XP on a Dell Inspiron Mini and have internet explorer popups coming up in the background. Sometimes there are ads with audio messages. Sometimes the sound mutes (wave volume mutes). I tried reinstalling the operating system, which did not work multiple times, until it finally succeeded (I am not sure why it finally succeeded). Even after this reinstallation (which seemed to delete most files from the hard drive) the popups and other antics continued. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Norton Antivirus aren't detecting anything. I ran DDS and GMER as per instructions prior to posting. GMER generated a message after completing scan that said rootkit detected. I clicked OK and haven't done anything with regards to that message. I have included all the log files requested. Thank you for your help!

Answer:Help with volume control-very quiet, main control unnefective

Do you have any other soundcard-like devices like a USB headset?
Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.
Did you get some special program with the motherboard drivers that would give you more control over sound than the Windows standard volume utility?

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

Answer:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Answer:windows xp style volume control panel in windows 7?

Hello Yeahman,

You might see if right clicking on the Volume icon in the notification area, and clicking on Open Volume Mixer may have an option for the volume control of the CD audio. If so, then clicking on it's speaker should unmute it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Howdy everyone, am in a bit of a pickle and would appreciate some pointers.
The past 2 days i have lost the sounds of my operating system, cannot stream audio and have lost my volume icon from the taskbar.

I am however able to listen to CDs through itunes, media player etc and can watch DVDs fine. It is just there are no sounds on windows start up and games etc and no streaming audio on Youtube, Myspace etc.

I have tried many things, obviously ticking, un ticking the box in control panel etc. Have tried system restore, been on kellys korner or whatever its called, looked up the problem but i need XP driver disk to reinstall sounds card. I dont have XP driver disk.
aswell i tried downloading new soundcard which didnt work. Was clutching at straws really.

i think some kind of codec i downloaded started the problem. My "show desktop" and Thunderbird icons have also disappeared from other side of taskbar.

My system is XP Pro, a Compaq Armada M700 laptop. Soundcard is a ESS Maestro 2E
Im usually pretty good at solving these kinds of problems, have been googling this for ages tho to no avail

if anyone could help that would be great

thanks
Henry

Hi there.I am all setup to record VHS tape using a new Hauppage WinTV PCI Card and I am grabbing the Vhs tape fine but there was no audio being recorded. The manual told me to go into Volume Control and set the RECORDING option for LINE-IN to active and I do this and then the card works and grabs the video and sound no problem. The only problem is that this setting doesnt stay like this and when I close down the WinTV software it reverts back to being unchecked so before I start a new project I have to go back into volume control and set it again, very annoying, is there a way to set this option so it stays? I am sure I am missing someone obvious, I am not a newbee to pc's either, this one just baffles me though.

Answer:RECORD CONTROL PANEL IN VOLUME CONTROL

Question: Volume control?

Hi all,
My MC has been working great until recently, suddenly the volume on the remote has stopped working.. but the keyboard and task bar volume control is working fine. The channel selection up and down is working fine.. but the volume just recently stopped working from the remote. Anyone know if maybe theres a service in services that may have something to do with this feature? Seems all functions of the remote are working fine.. just cant adjust the volume from the remote. Any ideas would be appreciated..I'm not sure what services would be related to the remote for MC.. I did alot of tweaking in services from the vipers list...I am wondering what if any might have changed the remote..again.. thanks for any help.

Question: Volume Control

ok. I have windows XP. (sadly enough). and...I decided to run disk clean up. And well apparently it was decided the following are no longer worthy of being on my computer:

*Games (the bundle of games like solitaire)
*IE link in status bar and desktop
*WMP link in Start Menu
and most importantly...
*Volume Control in system bar

...and when i go to control panel -> sounds and audio devices...

the checkbox IS clicked for display in system bar. so i uncheck it, then check it, and...it tells me...it's not installed.

...

freaking DISK CLEANUP uninstalled my volume control. wth.

well i've managed to get the IE links back...i've decided i really don't use the WMP link, but the volume control and games I have not. could someone help me? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Volume Control

You could try doing a system restore to a point just prior to doing the
disk clean up. **See link below
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...emrestore.mspx

Or

Do a sfc /scannow *see the below link
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Those would be your best options.

My Creative sound card shows it is installed OK in "Control Panel"," System" "Device Manager" with no conflicts. The sounds and audio devices section shows no audio device fitted and I am unable to locate the appropriate settings to reinstate it. The volume control is missing on the taskbar. I tried to install a new soundcard recently and wondered if I have deleted something trying to fix the problems that this caused. Hi and welcome

A few things you can try.

1. Do a System Restore and roll the computer back to a date before the problem started.

2. Right click on the system tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, then click properties, customize. Scroll down to the Volume icon and click it. Check to see if it is set to always hide, if so change it to hide when inactive or always show. then go to control panel, sounds and audio devices and check the box that says "place volume icon in the task bar". If you have reinstalled the audio drivers this should work.

Or 3. Alternatively this file could be damaged Sndvol32.exe. Check this page for more info:
