Want Windows 7 for 50 Percent Off? Order an OEM Copy

Question: Want Windows 7 for 50 Percent Off? Order an OEM Copy

Missed out on the early preorder discounts? Popular retailer Newegg.com has listed the OEM prices for Windows 7, which will be offered at less than half what Microsoft will charge for a retail copy.
Newegg hasn't listed any prerequisites for buying the OEM version, such as the purchase of any additional hardware. Past OEM copies have prevented users from taking advantage of Microsoft's support options, however, and the packaging and instructions are usually minimal.

Preferred Solution: Want Windows 7 for 50 Percent Off? Order an OEM Copy

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Want Windows 7 for 50 Percent Off? Order an OEM Copy

Thanks for the post. OEMs do not have support(supposidly)that retail versions have, but I've never had any problems with them and have always used them since '95, and in these times any saving is a saving.

Hi there:

Starting a few hours ago out of nowhere my computer screen will only enlarge to about 90 percent regardless of the browser (Firefox and Internet Explorer) and even software programs such as music editing or anti virus.

I have a Toshiba Dual Core Windows 7 with Norton 360/C Cleaner/Spybot that are run daily.

Please help.

Thank you,

I have an Olympus Camedia digital camera and I download the pictures taken to my computer running XP. I have Roxio 5.I look at the photo/files in Thumbnails, numbered say to 1 to 200, and delete those which I don't want. I wish now to copy these remaining files in the same order that they are on screen to CD to view on my DVD on the Television. My problem is that the order they are in the computer will not transfer to the CD, thus rendering any slide show presentation a jumble of photos and useless. All the photo files are on the CD, they are just not in the same order as they should be.I have altered the numbering system of the files by hand so that all numbers are consecutive thinking this might be the reason. It's not ! The programme my computer uses is Roxio CD Creator 5, which I pick up from All Programmes. I have in My Pictures the option Copy to CD in Picture Tasks. This just puts my through to Roxio again. Or if I click Copy to CD I have an option COPY but this produces a "Cannot create or replace file. Accress denied." Or, if I double click the CD drive in My Computer it shows what is on the CD already and does not display any temporary area where files could be held. I have the Options in the drop down menu of sorting by Name,Size,Type,Modified, Picture Taken On, Dimensions. Sorting by NAME and number i.e. Italy1, Italy2 Italy3 I would have thought would make the downloading sequence correct but it doesn't. Auto Arrange I have tried with it Checked and Unchecked. Ma... My old laptop died so I bought a new one. My old HDD was still accessible so I copied the favorites folder to the proper place on the new laptop.

They're all there, but now they're displaying in the browser sorted by NAME, not by date.  When favorites are created in IE11 they're automatically displayed in date creation order.  You can, of course drag a new entry from the bottom of the list
to some other point and it will stay there, but I have literally hundreds of favorites folders and each folder may have a couple hundred entries.

I've seen methods to sort the favorites in the browser by DATE, but that's not what I want - I already got that.  And WHY do I have that, anyway?  IF IE creates favorites and automatically sorts them by date, why does copying those favorites automatically
sort them in some other manner?
Even if Microsoft, through some Oscar worthy blunder failed to create a method for sorting those favorites in DATE order, somebody must have come up with some registry tweak to accomplish this.
Of course I know I can put a shortcut to the favorites on the desktop, and then sort them anyway I want, but that's just not as handy as clicking on the yellow star.

The Windows Photo Viewer will not display photos in the order they are sorted by Windows Explorer.
This is not referring to the slide show feature, just the forward and back arrows.
The only order pictures can be viewed is by name despite Windows Explorer being set at view by date, ascending.
I have repaired Microsoft Live Essentials, uninstalled and reinstalled but the issue remains.
This is also not an issue with photo tags or photo names.
Windows Explorer sorts as selected but click a picture in the middle to view, click the forward arrow and instead of the next date picture being viewed, the next name picture is viewed.

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer; sorting order not the same as view order

Hi!

I upgraded to Windows 10 recently as well, I have the same problem and I also have a solution. However, I do not know, if it is ideal. :-)

What is obviously missing is an entry in the registry called DropTarget. This entry tells Windows Photo Viewer to display the images in the sorting order of the folder Photo Viewer got called from.

Non-solution:
I saw that at least in my registry there is a DropTarget defined in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\photoviewer.dll\shell\open\DropTarget. From the name of the key and from reading the docs this looks as if it would be applied to all calls to this program, but -if that actually is the case- for me this entry does not work. It has been there (at least) after my Windows 10 upgrade, also the "Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}" seems to be fine, but it does not do the job.

Solution:
For me, this problem was present for jpg and png files, but not for bmp, dib, gif, jfif and what else can be opened with Windows Photo Viewer. To fix this, I have added the following to the Windows Registry:

Code:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jpegfile\shell\open\DropTarget]
"Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}"

Before you ask, yes, I did contact WB Digital Copy support several times and they were no help at all.

I have been trying to sync my mobile version of the free digital copy of Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix to my Samsung MP3 Player for 5 months. The file for some reason, says it can't be synced, but WB Digital copy support says it should be able to. I've got Windows Media Player 11, and the player I have, Samsung T-110, IS a Plays for Sure player.

It acts like it syncs, but then it gets an error. I'm not sure what to do.

Media Usage Rights Info:

You do not have the rights to play this file.
Collaborative play for this file is not allowed.
This file can not be burned. (I can understand THIS one)
This file can not be synchronized (But this is the mobile one and it is supposed to be able to be transferred to portable media devices EXCLUDING the iPod.)
The Media Usage rights for this file can not be backed up.
What confuses me is the can't be synced -- but this is the mobile version specifically designed for syncing to a portable media device.
Sorry if I repeated myself there.

Hi everyone, I am asking for help since I have got stuck with my code and barely can find solution on my own even after I tried to make a Google search on my topic.I have a huge data set which starts from A:AW and many columns down. In my work, I have to create several new tables (in new worksheets) based on user-defined-criterias. This working task I perform on a quite offen basis as soon as I receive the update on the sorting data set (the number of columns and criteria-column are always the same).VBA task: I made a code which take a given data set into input-array and depending on user-defined-criteria finds the match and copy all rows to the right. My personal issue:1. I would like to pik up the concrete columns in a specific sequences: 19, 20, 18, 31, 28,41.2. I would like my output-table to be re-sized once more so that in my new worksheet the table will start from A1:.How can I modify my VBA-macro to reach the desired result? OK, I'd love to help, but without your actual data - or generic, non-confidential data in the same layout - It's hard for me to follow along with what your code is trying to accomplish. If it's possible for you to upload a "safe" (non-confidential, no personal data) copy of your workbook to zippyshare, then I would have much better idea of what is going on.The one thing I can mention right off is that this snippet is probably not what you are looking for:Dim myColArray As Variant
myColArray = Array(22, 19, 20, 18, 31, 28, 41)' include column 22?

For lCol = 0 To UBound(myColArray)
rawData = Sheets(myColArray(i)).Range("A2:AW" & _
myColArray(i).Range("A3446").End(xlUp).Row) ' finding data areaLet's break that down:myColArray = Array(22, 19, 20, 18, 31, 28, 41) defines an array that contains a series of numbers meant to reference specific Columns. 22, 19, etc.So far, so good. For lCol = 0 To UBound(myColArray) loops through the Array elements, such that lCol will equal 0, then, 1 then 2, until it reaches the number of elements in the array.Still, so far, so good.rawData = Sheets(myColArray(i)).Range("A2:AW" & _
myColArray(i).Range("A3446").End(xlUp).Row)This is where we run into problems You used myColArray(i). Note the "i". You have never set "i" equal to anything, so as far as VBA is concerned, it is always going to equal 0. Therefore, myColArray(i) will always equal 22, since that is the first (or "0") element of the myColArray ar... Read more

Hi everyone,

There are two excel sheets I'm working on. The first is made up of 300 names of programs, one each row, and with 2 additional columns with version numbers and extra info. The second is a lot alike, but has about 100 rows and has 2 columns with different information from the first.

example:

Adobe premiere , 6.0.2, video-editing software

Around 50 of these programs match by name (they are both in sheet 1 and 2), and i would like to import extra information about all matching programs from sheet 2 into sheet one, next to the existing information. That would mean that 50 or so rows have 2 additional columns and that about half of sheet 2 is left unmatched.

By hand, this means copying the names from sheet 2, finding a match in sheet one, then copying the 2 columns from sheet 2 and pasting them in the corresponding location in sheet 1. I hope there might be a better way to do this. Does anyone know a way?

Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Windows XP 11 percent stop?

What program did you use to create the partitions and format with?

Perhaps drop the HDD out and slave it to a desktop (the adapters are cheap) and run the disk manufacturer's utility over it? It may be dodgy.

By the way, what actually is a "labtop"? Is it a laboratory version of a laptop or something?

Summary: Windows 8 doesn't exactly seem to be setting the world alight. Perhaps the requirement that indifferent users have to sit down and learn their way around something new is causing problems...

A very interesting article that summarizes a lot of the elements we have been discussing here.

Will 90 percent of users always hate Windows 8? | ZDNet

Answer:Will 90 percent of users always hate Windows 8?

Thanks for sharing. The article may explain some things, but I mostly quit reading after what's below--early in the article. I have no confidence in anyone who would make the statement below--either in the context of the article or in any other context.

"This method, by the way, explains Apple quite precisely. Apple's products don't do much, but what they do do requires no cognitive load or expectation of understanding drawing from prior experience whatsoever. For example, my son who at nine months of age would happily flick around the photo app on my iPad. Nine months!"

I read pretty many of the ZDNet news articles, and, IMO, the authors generally aren't very astute and especially not when it comes to Win8. About a week ago one author wrote about his discovery that you can get a start menu for Win8.

My installation of Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 always fails at the 22% mark. This has happened about 6-7 times. I've tried deleting the items in the download folder, as well as the setupprep.exe in the Windows WS folder. I'm using the media creation toolkit from the Microsoft website. I've tried the Windows update from the control panel, but that also fails with various error codes, the most common being 80070003. I would really appreciate a solution because this has been frustrating me all day.

Users still clinging to Windows XP like that fast and gnarly Trans Am from yesteryear that's just too familiar to part with have yet another reason to consider a new ride. According to security firm Avast, XP is a fertile breeding ground for cyber infection, especially for rootkits, of which 74 percent of infections originated from in a recent six-month study cataloging over 630,000 samples.

Windows XP is the most common operating system among Avast users with nearly half sticking with the nearly decade old OS. It's also one of the easier OSes to pirate, and according to Avast, un-patched and pirated versions of XP make up the main vector for rootkit infections.

90 percent of Windows 7 flaws fixed by removing admin rights.

After tabulating all the vulnerabilities published in Microsoft's 2009 Security Bulletins, it turns out 90 percent of the vulnerabilities can be mitigated by configuring users to operate without administrator rights, according to a report by BeyondTrust.

-- Tom

Answer:90 percent of Windows 7 flaws fixed by removing admin rights

I wonder if that means that the consentUI is not working as intended? If I understand correctly, the consentUI only passes over the admin token after that 'continue' prompt. So, if this report says that vulnerabilities are mitigated by not using an admin account, doesn't that imply that somehow when exploiting the vulnerabilities, the admin rights are used.

The restocking fee was waived as I'd ordered another X230 (better EPP deal).I shipped back the unopened X230 and Lenovo acknowledged the receipt of the laptop on Feb 5. And since then there has been no update on my refund. I was told it would take 6 business days for the refund to be posted back to my account. Now it's over 2 weeks and when I contacted post sales support - this is the reply I got from them: *************Hi,We regret to inform you that i am unable to get any information on this order, I am still working on your order. An answer like "i am unable to get any information on this order" from customer care themselves doesn't really inspire confidence with Lenovo. The second X230 that I'd ordered, has issues with the IPS display having a yellow tint and the touchpad being super jumpy. Had sent it to their repair center who unfortunately were not able to see the problems at first but later accepted the problem with the touchpad alone and they're getting the laptop re-imaged. Display is as designed according to them. They're sending it back now. Will wait and see. If I still see the display problem, will get it returned. Thank you Lenovo, for that amazing buyi... Why does it say that I will receive the laptop 2 weeks from now when it says that I should expect it within 1-3 days?

Answer:Dell site says XPS 15 gets delivered in 1-3 days, the order date for my order is 2 weeks from now...

Generally when that happens there has been a burst of orders, or there is a part on back order and the sales site hasn't been updated yet.  The delivery times are just estimates and could be sooner or later depending on various conditions.

I just purchased a pre-owned Lenovo T420 laptop with Windows 7, but amazingly, over these many years, I've never had to back up my OS before because someone (my tech guy mostly) had always done it for me. Anyhow, while I do intend to make a full system backup copy, which I have no doubt will include the Windows 7 OS, I would also like to create a backup (disk) copy of my OS only since no install disks came with the computer. I can load the Windows 7 OS onto an 80Mb CD, but the entire hard disk backup will take many gigabytes and I intend to use a 32 Gb flash drive for that purpose.

My first and essential question is, can I create a Windows 7 Pro "restore" disk by just copying and pasting the entire "Windows" file on my hard drive to a CD or Flash drive...or is there more to it than that?

When I started to create a backup copy of the entire disk using the Windows backup program, I took particular notice to the
fact that (after I selected the custom selection option rather than the automatic selection for which files to copy) that the Windows file was no longer listed on the "C" drive menu provided in the backup program. It is certainly listed on my "C" drive when I bring it up directly, so can anyone explain to me quickly what that's all about?

Hello,
I have one internal drive with 1 TB.
The data there is very important to me , so I bought External removable drive for backup.
Now, I want to copy the data from one drive to the second drive but I have to be sure I have a perfect copy of the data.
The data is mostly songs movies and documents.
I'm using windows 7.

My question is this:

1.If I'll transfer the data through windows 7 by copy and paste, I could be sure i have a perfect copy?
2.There are tools for comparison Between the original data to the data that was copied?
If so, what are they?

If I do not in the right place please Please pass my message to the right place.thanks.

jonathan.

Answer:transfer data through windows 7 by copy and paste perfect copy?

There is no reason why using copy and paste won't give you a perfect copy and in my view it's more reliable than using the Windows backup utility.

One program I've found invaluable is Microsoft's SyncToy, which you can download here: Download: SyncToy 2.1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

It will sync files between folders of the same name on two separate drives or partitions ( I always use the Echo procedure).

You might also want to consider using Windows 7's Robocopy function.

I got a notice after booting up my windows 7 ultimate today that it is not a legit copy.
It is a retail copy and has been running fine for a few years.
Nothing has been installed in the past few days and the only major thing I've done lately is to
remove a bunch of restore points to clear up a ton of space on my computer.
I'm at a loss at this point.
I've tried entering the product key, but it doesn't activate it.

any ideas??

This is my Order Number: 2FFVLJI've always owned a Thinkpad for the past 10 years and am a staunch Thinkpad fan.  The R60 and Z60m have been reliable and faithful companions.  I have been recommending Thinkpad to my colleagues and friends.  Hence when I needed a new laptop, I went directly to lenovo's site and ordered a T510 (Web Special) on 4th August 2010 using a valid credit card.  For two days the status was "in process".  On Aug 6th, I was unable to login in usng the cust no and order no to see the status.  When I called the sales customer service, I was informed that the order was cancelled from lenovo's side.  They pointed me to the credit card department for further information.  When I called the credit card department, they claimed information mismatch as the reason for the cancellation but they could not point out what exactly was the mismatch.  I can assure you that the card is valid.  Currently I'm not able to place another order for the same model from lenovo's site as it is no longer available.  This is very regretful as I was really looking forward to getting my laptop of choice.  I tried calling the sales dept but they are not available as it is weekend now (everyone needs a break )  So I have emailed them for help.  I'm yet to get a response.  This has been a nail biting experience.  I'm anxiously waiting for the response from the sales dept.   Will it be possibl... Question: CPU AT 100 PERCENT

Can anybody help me with this problem, I have just reinstalled my operating system following problems with a black screen. I am still in the process of updating my drivers however; last night my processor was running at 100 percent. Could this be the fact that some of my drivers need sorting out or could it be another factor. All my fans are running so its not a heat problem my processor is a dual core and on the cpu monitor it shows one at 100% and the other at 34%. The OS is Windows Vista Ultimate and I have 2gb of RAM. This is the first time it has done this. Any ideas appreciated.

Answer:CPU AT 100 PERCENT

You could check Task Manager to see what is using your CPU.It could be Microsoft searching for up-dates or maybe you have set your anti-virus to run at start up,System idle proccess should be showing about 96%.

The only processes that are doing anything are csrss.exe, explorer.exe, and the taskmgr.exe. i've been able to get some scans done on it, and have cleaned out some things. so far all i've been able to do is to cut the boot time from 30min to about 5min. can anyone help?

Wich processes are using 100%CPU? Have you tried safe mode? Can you get to the run box at all? (Win Key + R). If so then type in "msconfig" and disable all the startup programs.

When running the disk defragmenter (Windows XP Home, SP3) the Master File Table (MFT) shows that it is 99 percent in use, with only 3 fragments. It had previously been at 98 percent, but removing all but the most recent restore point seems to have worked for a time, dropping it back to 86 percent in use. But after installing the service pack 3 for Windows, the MFT jumped right back up to 99 percent. The concern is that, won't it now start to fragment the MFT, seeing as the allotted space is almost all in use? And will this cause performance issues?

And most importantly, what can be done about this?

There is a Windows support article titled: How NTFS reserves space for its Master File Table (MFT). In this article it states that you can increase the MFT zone by means of changing the value number using the Registry Editor. This seems like a drastic step to me, and I'm wondering if maybe something else could be tried first. Like perhaps using a reliable third-party defragmenter to reclaim MFT space occupied by deleted file entries?

OR...should it all be left alone as long as it is only showing 3 fragments (it's shown the same 3 fragments all along, even before it ever started closing in on 100 percent in use)?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Hi,

My CPU has been spiking @ 100 percent in Task Manager when I am trying to run any kind of video editing software. The program loads up ok. When I click on "Capture Video" it freezes up. Everything becomes extremely slow to load, including Task Manager. The software I am trying to use is Pinnacle Studio9 AV/DV and Ulead Video Studio 7. It takes an eternity for Task Manager to end the program.

I've updated the patches in the software. I've run virus scans that have come up clean. I'm kind of lost at this point.

eeehm ive had that problem myself but that was a totally messed setup.

as far as i would say your video codecs are messing around..

it will probably solve your video-problem if you uninstall all the additional codecs.. and try getting the divx codec or another good all-in-one codec package. and then reinstall ONE codec/package.

that should work fine..

Hello-

Newbie here that needs some help please after tearing my hair out for the last week.
Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16981)

I noticed on Monday that my Mozilla Firefox icon was missing and went an installed the latest 3.6v. My computer became extremely slow and the Task Manager showed that there was a svchost.exe (SYSTEM) that was running at 99% constantly (or a little under that). I removed that version and rolled back to the 3.5.8v and still the same.

After Googling.. I did the following: defrag, registry cleanup, Malywarebytes, CCleaner, disk cleanup, Spybot and still nothing. I ran HiJackthis and don't really understand it. I posted it to a couple of sites but they didn't really help.

I ran Process Explorer and it showed that one svchost.exe as "kernel32.dll!CreateThread+0x22" and the stack for the thread reads:

"ntkrnlpa.exe!NtBuildNumber+0xe
ntkrnlpa.exe!RtlUpcaseUnicodeString+0xbe
ntkrnlpa.exe!ZwYieldExecution+0x4f3
hal.dll+0x2ef2
ntdll.dll!NtDeviceIoControlFile+0xc
WS2_32.dll!recv+0x6f"

I've done more research on this and I still can't figure it out. What am I doing wrong please? Help!

Thank you! Sorry if I sound stupid, but I'm trying..

Answer:CPU Usage 100 percent CANT DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your problems may not be malware! First run this Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT) multiple times with a reboot inbetween.

If still having problems doing the above, please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. Make sure that you stop using MSconfig as requested in step 1 of the below or we will only be asking you to stop using it and then to get new logs which will be a waste our time and yours.

Answer:100 percent CPU usage

From the HijackThis-log, I can tell you that the only thing suspicious running on your PC (except those 'unknown'/'noname' processes) would be the Google toolbar Add-On. Unless you're using it regularly, I suggest you remove it.

An XP Home SP3 running on a 1,40 GHz Pentium 4 at 100% usage along with ~500MbB RAM does not really seem suspicious. Is this behaviour very "not normal" for your PC?

(Also, try avoiding screaming HELP etc., you may want to review the community guidelines should you risk getting moderated)

Edit:
What anti-virus are you running?

Hi Guys,

First post here so hi everyone, I hope someone can help!

I am using Windows XP Pro. I have SP2 installed and all the latest updates and patches. I have a problem though. There is something on my system wanting to dial-up after I boot the computer and when I go online my explorer.exe uses 100 percent. What I have managed to do is to end the explorer process and run it again, which seems to work ok. If I don't dial-up I don't seem to have the problem? I have run AVG, Ad-aware SE and Spybot and there doesn't seem to be anything running that is obviously malware?

I have hijack this so could post a log if needed

Answer:Explorer.exe using 100 percent CPU

Hi Steve, welcome to TSF.

It could be an incomplete update that is trying to run at startup. Go to Start > Run, type msconfig and click the Startup tab to find anything unusual. It could also be a dialer or some other form of malware. Follow these instructions and if that doesn't help, post a HJT log here with a full description of your problem and your system specs.

IM Attacks up Nearly 80 Percent

It seems that instant messaging is experiencing another hot trend when it comes to malicious code attacks. The article goes onto mention that P2P is another huge culprit.

In many cases, those users were overriding the default security settings on their peer-to-peer software to do so, according to Tiversa. Robert Boback, Tiversa's CEO, and retired U.S. Army General Wesley Clark, a Tiversa board member, testified earlier this week before the House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Hi

My Laptop is consuming 100% CPU whenever I open any application. Not sure why? So I suspected my symantec Antivrus Corporate edition and uninstalled the same. Because when I start the laptop, i was able to see rtvscan.exe and doscan.exe taking full CPU. Also My startup and shutdown was very very slow.

I tried spybot(trial version which resulted in blue screen error), malware, superantispyware, etc., nothing helped me...

When I look into taskmanager, there is nothing suspicious running.

I ran DDS and here is the output. I tried running GMER but it resulted in blue screen error as below. tried couple of times and both resulted in same error.

"The problem seems to be caused by the following file: kgldapow.sys. The driver is attemping to access memory beyond the end of the allocation.

Appreciate your help in fixing my laptop.

My computer usage is always at 100 percent and it is running extremely slow. I have ran Spybot, Adaware, Kapersky, my own virus software(trend pc cillin), and spysubtract. While running these I did get rid of alot of spyware and one trojan, however none of this cured my computer. Please help.

I am running on windows XP pro if that helps at all.

Answer:CPU Usage at 100 percent

Please do this:

First create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This.

Now Click here to download Hijack This. Download it and click "Save". Save it to the Hijack This folder you just created.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log. Click "Save" to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.

Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I have the following configuration for my dell inspiron I1520 laptop-pc
Processor : Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz
3 GB RAM, 32 Bit operating system, WIndows Vista Home Premium.

Its now 2 months that I am suffering heavily due to this problem of 100pc cpu usage and heavily low performance speed of working
. I have tried killing svchost or other processes that show high percentages in 'processes' in 'task manager'. But to no avail. I was using avast antivirus software, then I have scanned my computer using all recommended anti-spywares/virus/fixes like malwarebytes, superantispyware, windows malicious software tool, emergency response tool to get rid of heavy troubles. Few of them detected viruses, spywares. I thought I was relieved. But NO.
I have even done defragmention, run Ccleaner and all possible minor tweaks known.
In some cases my computer showed signs of improvement by giving less CPU usage. But when I restarted my computer back, after around 10-15 minutes of usage computer is back to its 100 percentage.
Further I have not been finding any malicious softwares in any anti-malicious runners.

Finally I have now tried running Combofix (using the recommended procedures likeremoving my antivirus, etc,) it has again quaratinined some files. I am attaching my COMBOFIX LOG here for reference and analysis. Please Help.

Hey I went through the five steps and some things didn't work. The online scan kept giving me errors and spyware blaster froze. I ran mcafee, spybot and ad-aware but none of them worked. basically my problem is my cpu runs at 100 percent no matter what I'm doing making everything freeze. Also my system restore is messed up and automatic updates won't turn on if that helps at all. I get weird browser redirects but only in explorer and not Firefox. Ok here is my log thanks a lot.

My computer at work has slowed to a crawl bcouse the cpu is pegged at 100 percent. Its possible I have an infection but its hard to tell as I brought the newest stinger from home and it was still running after 4 hours. I booted in safe mode, off the internet and in taskmanager it looks as if explorer.exe is the resource hog. I realize this is a neccesary program for xp, but could it be infected and how would I fix it?

Mcafee was running in the background but may not have been up to date. It is hard to do anything as all programs t-a-k-e s-o-o-o long. Is there a new virus around. I have Windows XP sp2, firewall enabled.

I would hate to format as several people use the computer, any ideas would be appreciated as I am new to the forum.

Do you have an AC adapter for the machine? You may have one or more (new) memory chips that are bad. Try using them one at a time.

Hello

I have installed the newest web browsers: Opera, Firefox and IE. I have the lastest version of Adobe Flash Player.
When I want to watch any video on Youtube - it's almost impossible, cause it jams. Even when I down it to 360p.
It's about 50 percent of CPU usage, sometimes even more.
I tried to install older version of Flash Player - no effects.

Answer:Flash player uses 50 percent of CPU

Does this happen using all 3 browsers?
Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration in the affected browser(s) or flash player (or both)?
Have you tried downloading a video and viewing it offline for CPU utilization comparison?

I have a 2366/T30 Thinkpad running Windows 2000.  Most of the time, the green battery indicator flashes and the status is always at 99 percent.  If the laptop is off, or if I am in Europe running on 220 volts, the battery charges to 100 percent and I see a solid green.  Running on 110 volts, I see flashing green almost all the time.In an attempt to resolve the problem, I replaced the 7 year old battery and backup battery.  This has not corrected the 99 percent flashing green indcator problem.  I'm concerned about the battery overheating being on constant charge, although it does not feel warm to the touch.  At any rate, the blinking indicator is annoying. What should I look at next?  Thank-you.Henry

Answer:Battery Indicator always 99 percent

Does your adapter rate at 110 volt to 250 volt.

is there any way of completely making a computer 100 percent clean of virusses etc before backing it or making restore points ??

2

is there any way to make backups of windows 8 after the pc was cleaned and burn it to a dvd ?? i dont want to make backups to usb or portable hard drives because it can easily be damaged and is expensive.

thanks

Answer:is there any way of cleaning a computer 100 percent ??

1. No. Only if you make your backup before connecting to the internet for the first time. All you can do is scan with you AV and hope. No AV will find everything.

2. Windows will not make images to DVD any more but you could use Macrium Reflect Disk Imaging and Backup - Help or similar to do this. However a USB stick (or drive depending how much you need to backup) will probably be cheaper and more reliable.

Ok first off this started about 2 days ago. It happened overnight as well without warning. I log in the following day with massive lag times on my HP laptop. I check the Taskman and the CPU is at 100% just sitting in desktop. I do a virus scan with 2004 Norton's Anti-Virus and it pulls up 1 adware. So, i get rid of it and nothing changes. I decide to check my CMOS setup to see if anything is different and its all fine. Now i start to wonder whats going on so I do a system restore to about 2 weeks ago. This does nothing. My fathers computer also went down at the same time. I was, however, able to fix his. His CMOS and BIOS were all messed up (Hard drive was randomly turned to read-only, same with floppy, and the CD-ROM wasn't reading correctly among some other stuff). Like i said i fixed his but i'm still having trouble with mine. I'm currently a IT student and I consulted my A+ textbooks and I still havn't been able to find what might be wrong. I'm currently worried about a possible surge in the current that might have miamed my CPU. If anyone is able to shed some light on what might be wrong with what I'm doing or knows what I can do to fix this I would be thankful. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I'm currently running a HP laptop under Windows XP Home Edition. I have 1GB of RAM, a ATI Radeon 9000 video card, Celeron 2.8GHz processor.

Hi.  I'm trying to restore my Lenovo 3000 N100 to backup conditions, but it seems to be stuck at System restore in progress... 0%.  Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?  Thanks.

Answer:Restore hangs at Zero Percent

Your service partition could be corrupted. If you made a set of Recovery media, then use it to reinstall the service partition. If you don't have it, then you should call Lenovo and request a set of Recovery media be sent to you, you will have to pay the service and handling charge. Message Edited by lead_org on 02-26-2009 03:16 AM

I have a relatively new computer.  Bought it last fall.  It has windows 8.  Recently it has been running very slow.  Web pages run and load slow.  Sometimes the cursor, moves slower than the mouse, making it continue moving after i quit adjusting it.  I opened task manager and noticed that the Disk Space is 99% full, but I dont really see anything that looks like it should be full? I dont know if there is a virus or some other problem?  I am not terribly tech savvy, but I know enough to follow directions that I am given, if they are specific enough.  Thank you for any help or suggestions you can give.

Answer:99% Percent of Disk Space Used?

Hi
Your disk is not 99% full. What you are looking at is how busy the disk drive is.
Try shutting down Chrome and seeing if other programs run OK. If they do then you probably have picked up some bit of Malware in Chrome.
You can get rid of a lot of nasty stuff in chrome be resetting it.
Go to the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button. It is under the X button in the top right hand corner of the window.
Click on 'Settings'
at the bottom of the next screen click on 'Show advanced settings'
Then look for the 'Reset Settings' button at the bottom of the page.

Well after the update for firefox 2.0 downloaded, The process percent for the CPU of the specific process (firefox.exe) has been abnormally high, in the high 80's constantly, I have restarted the computer, restarted the process, and cleared room on my computer (thought it was maybe the RAM) and nothing helps, I searched my entire system for any kind of virus or bug and nothing came up. ANy help would be appreciated.

Jeremy - magnumcalib

Answer:Abnormal CPU usage percent

Just to be sure it's not a theme or extension causing the trouble, try starting the browser in Firefox's Safe Mode (shortcut in Start Menu). You could always try a new Profile too and make sure that you have the latest Java and Flash plugins. Also perhaps try a totally clean installation of Firefox 2.0 (including the Profiles folder), rather than an upgrade.

Other than that, I don't have an answer. I can only say that I've read about this problem but never experienced it. Is that because I format and reinstall regularly (so no unused files - Registry entries etc.), keep a clean system or because I only use the computer lightly? Could it be something outside of Firefox perhaps causing the problem for some users but not others? Perhaps reading this long thread on the Mozilla forum will provide some clues as to why you are experiencing the problem. It refers to earlier versions of Firefox as well as the present one.

As a newbie I have noticed this problem throughout the message boards but I have never really seen a definate answer given for it.The suggestion is always that it is a virus or a worm but I have seldom seen anyone that had the problem send back a reply that "EUREKA,my problem has been solved."Maybe it is a processer problem or a Windows problem, but it seems to be a fairly widespread one that needs to be addressed.

Can only be one of two things, if your anti-virus is up-to-date and your PC checks clean, then it is Spyware that is causing the problem, you need to download install & Update 'Spybot Search & Destroy' , Ad-Aware 6 & also CWshredder .
If you had the Msblast virus at any point you should install the 'Security Update' also.
